Jack: This verdict is going to be in soon. And with no confession and no more time to find Pearson -- Greenlee?

Greenlee: I'm sorry. I just -- can you get another postponement?

Jack: No. I'm afraid I've pushed this judge's good graces to the limit. But with no proof that David killed himself -- I'm so sorry. Listen. If this verdict does come back guilty, just --

Greenlee: I don't care about the trial. I want to be with Kendall. I need to be there when she finds out about Zach.

Jack: You can't do that now. Erica and Ryan are with her.

Greenlee: It's my fault that Zach's dead, because he was helping me.

Jake: I haven't talked about Cara, because I never wanted you to think for a single second that I was in any way, shape, or form hung up on her, because I'm not. That's the past, and that part of my life is over. I never even thought about her, really, for two years. You want to know why? Because I am incredibly in love with my beautiful wife and my son.

Amanda: Seeing Griffin I'm sure brought up a lot of emotions about Cara.

Jake: The only thing I'm getting emotional about is the thought of you and a bottle of wine and a sunset, and that's all.

Amanda: Do not try and charm your way out of this. I want to make sure that you are ok and not all ripped up inside.

Jake: I'm not ripped up inside because of you. Because of you. Look, all of that is in the rearview mirror for me. Ok? The only thing I'm thinking about is right now with my gorgeous wife.

Tad: Chief? What now?

Jesse: Zach's plane went down, and he didn't make it.

Tad: Tell me you're kidding.

Jesse: I'm not kidding.

Tad: What? How? Why?

Jesse: Why did the plane go down? We're not sure. We're working on it. Why was he on the plane? David Hayward.

Tad: Son of a bitch.

Jesse: Makes you wish he was still around to kill him again.

Tad: Jesse, this is gonna hit a lot of people.

Jake: What's up, boys?

Jack: Ryan and Greenlee had a video of Pearson's confession.

Liza: They "had"?

Jack: Yes, "had." It was destroyed.

Liza: That's very convenient.

Jack: No, Liza, it was real. Listen to me. David committed suicide and made it look like Ryan murdered him.

Liza: Am I just supposed to take your word for that?

Jack: You don't have to just take my word. You've got Ryan's word. You've got those offshore bank deposits. You've got enough proof here.

Liza: Produce a witness.

Jack: I will, but I need some time to do that. Work with me here, Liza. Have a little trust. I will find this witness --

Liza: You're expecting me and the judge to just take your word for a confession that only the defendant and the man that she loves witnessed? Forget it.

Jack: There's more.

Liza: There's always more. You can try to postpone. You can try your tricks. You can try your --

Jack: You want to hear the "more" I have for you? The reason that this evidence was destroyed was because it was on a camera that Ryan had on his person when he went in the water to save Zach.

Liza: What do you mean, save Zach?

Jack: Zach went west to try to help Greenlee and Ryan. When he flew out to pick them up, his plane exploded, Liza, in midair. Zach is gone.

Kendall: You're back.

Ryan: Yeah.

Kendall: This is good. That means that you found what you needed. So Greenlee's gonna go free?

Ryan: Uh, Kendall --

Kendall: Where's Zach? Is he with you?

Erica: Kendall, we need to talk.

Kendall: This is so like Zach. His phone is completely dead, and now he's probably run 10 errands on his way home. He is so excited about Thanksgiving.

Erica: Honey, we really do need to talk to you.

Kendall: Ok, but make it quick. Zach is coming home soon.

Amanda: My God. Poor Kendall.

Jake: This is because of Hayward, right?

Jesse: Yeah. Zach was with Ryan and Greenlee, trying to collect evidence to prove that this monster set up his own death. What a sick piece --

Jake: You don't have to tell us.

Jesse: I got to break the news to Angela. Ohh!

Amanda: Are you going to the courthouse later?

Jake: I think Greenlee needs all the friends she can get.

Jesse: I'll be there. I'm gonna do everything in my power to make sure that Hayward doesn't take down anybody else.

Liza: I can't believe it.

Jack: Hey, Tad.

Tad: You heard about Zach?

Liza: Yeah. Jack just told me.

Tad: I'm sorry. I know how much he meant to you.

Jack: When that verdict comes in, I want you to be prepared. Greenlee, I need you to focus.

Greenlee: Focus? Focus when my best friend is learning that her husband is dead?

Jack: Sweetheart, we'll get you there as soon as we can. First, we have to deal with this.

Greenlee: I don't care.

Jack: This is your life we're talking about. Of course, you care. If that verdict comes back as guilty --

Greenlee: You'll appeal. I know.

Jack: You will end up going to prison -- exactly what I fought so hard to avoid.

Greenlee: It's not your fault.

Jack: Listen to me. I was against you and Ryan running off to do that, but you found that evidence. You did good. But now that that evidence has been destroyed, a part of me wishes that you hadn't come back, that you had just stayed away. At least I'd know you were free. There'll be a period of time after the verdict is read until sentencing. During that time, we can figure a way to get you the hell out of here. I'll help you.

Greenlee: Dad, stop.

Liza: I can't do it.

Tad: Listen. Just go talk to the judge. I'm sure she'll listen.

Liza: No, you don't understand. I'm the D.A. The verdict has to be read.

Tad: Why? Listen. Greenlee loved Zach, too. A lot of people did. Why can't we just give everybody a day to adjust?

Liza: Because I -- people will think that I'm --

Tad: That you're what? Human?

Liza: There's pressure on me to win this case, to be strong, to do my job.

Tad: You know what? Sometimes in life, you can afford to be something other than strong. There you go.

Liza: You're the only one that's actually known how I felt about him.

Tad: You loved him.

Liza: Ohh. I know that Kendall was the only one that he actually gave his heart and his soul to, but I couldn't help it. I belly-flopped right into it. Stupid -- the story of my life.

Tad: Yeah, I've been around that dance floor a couple times myself. It wasn't the way you wanted it or the way you hoped it would be, but it was real, and it doesn't mean you're not gonna miss him like hell.

Kendall: Where's Greenlee? Is she back yet? She's free, right?

Ryan: We'll talk about Greenlee later. Ok?

Kendall: Ok.

Erica: Honey, maybe we should sit down.

Spike: Daddy!

Ryan: Hey there, big guy. How you doing? Look at you.

Spike: I'm a chief.

Erica: Oh, yes, you are, and such a handsome one.

Kendall: Spike is in his school Thanksgiving play. That's right. Zach has been coaching him day and night.

Ryan: Wow. That's right. The Thanksgiving Day pageant, right? We're so proud of you.

Kendall: That's right. And we're all gonna be here, aren't we, Spiky? And this is just the beginning. This is gonna be the best Thanksgiving yet. It's gonna be all of our friends and family and a few others. Wait until you see the seating chart Bianca and I are working on. And he has been working on a list of all the things he's grateful for. Isn't that right, Spiky?

Spike: I miss Daddy Zach.

Erica: Sweetheart, Spike, could I see your list, too? I would love to see that list. Maybe you could go upstairs. You could add something to that list. Ok? And maybe your little brother -- would you let him help you? Maybe he wants to add something, too. Ok?

Ryan: All right.

Babysitter: Come on, guys.

Kendall: Ok. So what is it?

Erica: It's about Zach.

Kendall: What about Zach?

Ryan: Maybe we should sit down for a second.

Kendall: No. I'm fine. What about Zach?

Erica: There was some trouble with his plane.

Ryan: He was -- he was on the way back to the island to pick Greenlee and me up and -- in the middle of descent, there -- something happened. There was an explosion --

Kendall: No! I don't want to hear it.

Ryan: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Kendall: No. No. No, you're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong. Zach is gonna walk right through that door just like always, just like he promised. Zach -- he's gonna walk right through that door.

Erica: No, sweetheart, he's not.

Kendall: No. No! No! No! No! No!

Erica: Honey, I'm so, so sorry. I'm so sorry.

Kendall: No.

Erica: Zach is gone.

Amanda: I am so glad that you are not taking that job at Doctors Without Borders and going somewhere dangerous.

Jake: I wouldn't do that to you and Trevor. I'm very thankful. And I'm also very thankful to Zach, because if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here right now.

Amanda: I know. But you never actually told me the details.

Jake: When I was in Africa, there was this rebel tribe that tried to use me as a bargaining chip. The only problem was the other side wasn't really -- wasn't willing to bargain at all.

Amanda: Oh, my God.

Jake: So they wanted to kill me. But it was Zach who came up with a plan to get me out of there.

Amanda: Zach was a hero.

Jake: So you know when his boys grow up, you know I'm gonna tell them that, "Your dad saved my life. If it wasn't for your dad, I wouldn't have been able to come home and be a dad myself."

Amanda: You know what? That's what we need to do. We need to focus on the important things, and the things that matter.

Jake: Absolutely. We need to go home and squeeze Trevor and give him a big hug.

Amanda: And kiss every single one of those toes. And friends and family and holidays and parties. We are not missing a single one this year.

Jake: Count me in. Count me in. I know where we could matter a lot right now.

Amanda: Greenlee. The verdict.

Jack: Greenlee, the evidence is out there, and I am not going to stop until it's found, entered into evidence, and you are set free.

Greenlee: How do you do it? You have such faith in me. It seems like I've screwed up for so long, I don't remember what it's like not to screw up. And yet there you are, looking at me like you believe in me.

Jack: That's because I do believe in you. And you're my daughter, and I love you. You don't have to do this.

Greenlee: Yes, I do.

Bianca: Looks like I'm early. At least Greenlee's back in time. That's good news.

Jack: Yeah, there's actually more news.

Bianca: Oh. Well?

Greenlee: Bianca, there's something I need to tell you.

Jack: Why don't you let me do this?

Greenlee: No.

Bianca: What's going on?

Greenlee: Zach was helping me and Ryan.

Bianca: Yeah. I know. Did he get arrested or something?

Greenlee: And he was flying his plane back to pick us up, but it went down, and he didn't make it.

Bianca: No.

Jack: Honey, Ryan went in the water to look for him, but Zach -- Zach's gone.

Bianca: Oh, my God. Zach gone -- that's impossible. Miranda loves him so much, and Gaby will never get to know what an amazing man he is -- was. Oh, God, I cannot do that. Are you sure? Kendall.

Jack: Erica and Ryan are with her right now.

Bianca: I have to go be with her. Your verdict --

Greenlee: Go. Kendall needs you.

Jack: Take care of your sister.

Kendall: No. No. No. No, Zach isn't gone. He's not gone. He's -- no. We have plans. We have the pageant and Thanksgiving. We have a whole houseful of people coming here. No. We have our whole lives ahead of us. We have years of watching our children grow. Zach wouldn't do that. Zach wouldn't. He wouldn't --

Ryan: Greenlee and I didn't want to believe it either, Kendall. I saw it. I saw it. I went in after him, and I searched.

Kendall: You didn't find him?

Ryan: All we found was debris.

Kendall: Ok. That's good. Like I told you, then Zach is still alive. Maybe he wasn't even on that plane, and if he was, he could've swam to another part of the island. He could be just fine.

Erica: Sweetheart, I know that it's so hard to accept.

Kendall: How could you be so cruel? You didn't find him. That doesn't mean that he's dead. How could you be so cruel?

Ryan: I searched for hours.

Kendall: And you left him? You left him. He could still be out there alive! How could you do that? How could you leave him like that? He was there to help you. How could you leave him?

Ryan: The Coast Guard came, and I called the Coast Guard as soon as I landed here, Kendall.

Kendall: Ok. Good. I want to talk to whoever is in charge there. He's probably on his way back right now.

Ryan: They said that there is no possibility of survivors.

Kendall: No. They don't know Zach. He wanted -- he wanted to come home to me and the boys. He wanted to come home. Nothing stops Zach when he wants something. Ok? Give me the number. I want to talk to them. I'm his wife. I want to know if they found him.

Ryan: It's not a search and rescue mission anymore. It's search and recovery. I'm so sorry, Kendall. Greenlee wanted to be here. She wanted to be the one to tell you, but she had to turn herself into court and wait for the verdict.

Kendall: I don't give a damn about Greenlee and the court and verdicts. My husband is out there somewhere. He went there because Greenlee needed him, and you just took off.

Ryan: We searched everywhere.

Kendall: You should've searched harder. Zach is not -- Zach is not gone. He's not dead. He wouldn't do that to me and the boys.

Erica: Of course not. I know it's impossible to believe.

Kendall: I'm gonna call him right now. You'll see. He's probably on his way back right now. He's gonna be so angry. He's gonna be angry with you for leaving him like that. He probably had to hide from the police, because he's helping a fugitive.

Erica: Sweetheart, please don't do this.

Kendall: Mom, stop. You don't know anything. He's going to answer.

[Phone rings]

Zach's voice: This is Zach. Leave a message.

Kendall: Hey, you. It's me. I need you to call me as soon as you get this. Ok? I miss you, and so do the boys. We want you home. Ok? I love you.

Erica: Can I get you something?

Kendall: No. I don't want anything. I'm fine, and I'm done listening to you, actually.

Ryan: Why don't we just sit down for a second?

Kendall: I'm gonna go check on the boys. Ok? So you guys can show yourselves out.

Erica: My poor little girl -- she's devastated! This can't be happening! This can't be happening! [Crying]

Bianca: Uncle Jack told me. I can't believe it!

Erica: I know. I know.

Bianca: How's Kendall?

Ryan: She's in denial.

Erica: She tried to call Zach. She called him on his phone. She got his voice mail, and she just -- she insists he's alive.

Bianca: What do we do?

Erica: We love her, and we stay close to her.

Bianca: Ok.

Erica: Ok?

Bianca: Uncle Jack called me on my way over. He says the judge is gonna start any minute.

Ryan: I'm not gonna leave Kendall. I'm not gonna leave her right now, not like this.

Bianca: Ryan, you need to be there for Greenlee. Mom and I are here.

Ryan: But Spike doesn't even know yet.

Erica: Kendall won't tell Spike right now.

Bianca: You should go.

Ryan: Call me if there's anything I can do. I'm sorry.

Jake: Hey.

Greenlee: Hey. You heard?

Jake: You ok?

Greenlee: No. Ryan and Erica are with Kendall right now.

Jake: If there's anything I can do, just get a message to me or something. Ok?

Greenlee: Thank you. Just go sit with Amanda. Being here means a lot.

Krystal: How you holding up?

Jack: Still standing.

Krystal: I don't know how. Is Erica with Kendall?

Jack: Yes. I don't want to think about how that might be going.

Krystal: You need to be here, present for Greenlee.

Jack: How the hell did everything go so wrong?

Ryan: Hey.

Greenlee: Hi. Kendall -- how is she?

Ryan: She's in shock. She refuses to believe that Zach's gone.

Greenlee: Then why are you here? She needs you.

Ryan: Erica and Bianca are with her. You need me, too.

Greenlee: If Zach hadn't come to help --

Ryan: Then he wouldn't be Zach. But right now, you need to focus on this, ok, please?

Greenlee: What about Kendall?

Ryan: You may not be concerned about yourself right now, but I am. We're gonna get through this. Look at me. We will. I made you a promise, and it's a promise I am not gonna back away from. I'm gonna be here with you forever.

Bailiff: All rise! The Honorable Judge Miriam Cressman presiding.

Judge: Please be seated. In the case of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. Greenlee Hayward, has the jury reached a verdict?

Foreman: We have, your honor.

Kendall: Why are you still here? I told you and Ryan to leave.

Erica: Ryan did leave. He went back to the courthouse to be with Greenlee.

Kendall: You should go, too. You need to go be there for Jack. I have things to do before Zach comes home. [Sees Bianca] No. No, no, no. No! No! No, Zach! No! No! [Crying]

Judge: Madam Foreman, how do you find the defendant, Greenlee Hayward, in the charge of murder in the first degree?

Foreman: We find the defendant, Greenlee Hayward, guilty of murder in the first degree.

[Gallery buzzes]

Jack: We'll fight it. The appeal is ready to go. I will not stop fighting until you are free.

Ryan: I had the evidence in my hand, Tad, that Greenlee is innocent. I had it in my hand.

Tad: It's not over.

Ryan: You're damn right it's not.

Jack: Your honor, I want the jury polled.

Liza: Your honor, is that really gonna be necessary?

Jack: None of this is necessary, Liza. You could've stopped this. You know the truth, but the win was more important, wasn't it?

Judge: Order.

Jack: You talk about serving justice? But you're just as --

Judge: I said order, or I will hold you in contempt, Mr. Montgomery. The jury has rendered their decision, and I'm satisfied with the verdict. I'd like to thank you all for your time and service. You're free to go. This time, I'd like to take a short recess. When I return, I'll pass sentence.

Jack: Your honor, a short recess before sentencing? That's very unusual.

Judge: Perfectly within my right.

Jack: Your honor, my client needs time to prove her --

Judge: Your client was found guilty.

Jack: We have -- we will have evidence that will prove beyond a doubt that she is innocent.

Judge: Until such time that evidence is presented to this court, your client has been found guilty and will be sentenced accordingly. Mrs. Hayward, you will remain in this room during the entire duration of the recess. Do you understand me?

[Judge pounds gavel]

Bailiff: All rise!

Jack: I'm so, so sorry.

Greenlee: It's not your fault.

Ryan: Listen, Jack, I will get the evidence. You file the appeal. We will make this right. We will make it right.

Kendall: How -- I don't understand how this could happen. I'm sorry I told you to leave.

Erica: Ohh, it's ok.

Kendall: I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say.

Erica: You don't have to do anything. You don't have to say anything.

Kendall: The boys. I don't know how to tell them. I don' know how to say it. How do I tell --

Erica: No, you don't. You don't have to tell them anything, not yet. No, you don't have to.

Kendall: I should do something. There's so many things that I have to do.

Erica: You don't have to do anything, honey. You don't have to do anything. You just -- just be here. Just be here, together.

Kendall: [Cries]

Erica: So the sitter took Ian and Spike to the park for a while. I know that this -- I don't even know why I'm saying this, but would you like something to eat?

Kendall: No. I -- I can't.

Erica: You have to keep your strength up, honey.

Kendall: No, Mom. Maybe later. I want to go. I want to go rest.

Erica: Maybe you shouldn't be alone right now.

Kendall: No. I'm ok. Ahem. I'll be fine.

Erica: We're not going anywhere.

Bianca: No. We'll be here as long as you need us. We'll field phone calls, contact all the people that need to know.

Erica: Yes. Whatever you need done, we will do. You're very cold. Let me get you a sweater.

Kendall: I just want to -- I just -- I just need to go rest.

Bianca: Mom. Let's give her some time.

[Liza remembers]

Liza's voice: Catch me.

Zach: Whoa! Hey.

Krystal: You did everything you could. You had the evidence before. You'll get it again. And there's the appeal. It's a setback, but it's not over.

Jack: If Greenlee spends even one day behind bars for this, it's too many.

Jake: I can't believe this is happening, and Zach. I know I said this before, but we'll do whatever we can. We would break you out if we could.

Greenlee: I know you would.

Tad: How you holding up?

Amanda: I'm ok?

Tad: And Jake? How's he doing on the whole Griffin thing?

Amanda: According to Jake, there is no Griffin thing.

Tad: So I guess he still doesn't feel like talking about his new sparring partner?

Amanda: With everything going on, I feel like it's gonna be a while before we get to talking about anything.

Greenlee: It's hard to believe 24 hours ago we were in each other's arms. We had the confession. Everything was good. Now Zach's dead, and I'm going to prison.

Ryan: You're not gonna be there for long.

Greenlee: I'm gonna be all right, Ryan. When the walls close in, I'll just close my eyes, and I'll remember one perfect night -- your vows to me, the waves crashing, so many stars, and the feel of you in my arms. I'm gonna be fine.

Ryan: I'm not gonna stop until I find Pearson. I will get him, and I will beat a confession out of him if I have to, and when that's done, then you're gonna be free. We're gonna have thousands of nights together.

Greenlee: Promise me you'll take care of Kendall while I'm away?

Ryan: I will. I will. I will.

Erica: Last time I saw Zach and Kendall, they were so happy. Their happiness just filled this room.

Bianca: Did you know that when we lived in Paris, he would just dash off these poems and limericks for Gaby and Miranda and send them to us? He wasn't there that often, but he let them know that they were loved.

Erica: There's just so much to do -- calls to make, the newspapers, funeral arrangements, a memorial service, the florist.

Bianca: And I know you want to take care of Kendall and me and the boys, but you loved Zach, too. You need to take some time and be with this.

Singer: Angels will carry you home tonight I cannot carry you now love you have taught me the meaning of life but you are leaving me

[Crying, Kendall calls Zach's phone over and over]

Zach's voice: This is Zach. Leave a message. This is Zach. Leave a message. This is Zach. Leave a message.

Singer: Take me, too oh, God, where are you? And I can't believe that it's over it's over, it's over

Judge: At this time, I'm ready to pronounce sentence. Will the defendant please rise? The time being served will not bring back the victim, but it is intended to pay back your debt to society. Given the cold-blooded premeditation of the crime against her husband, I hereby sentence Greenlee Hayward to life in prison for the murder of David Hayward. I order that Mrs. Hayward be taken into custody immediately. Court adjourned!

Jack: Just give her a minute.

Officer: Take your hands off me and get out of the way, sir.

Ryan: I love you.

Officer: Let's go.

Ryan: Greenlee? Greenlee, just -- Greenlee, I love you.

[Crowd murmurs as David walks into the courtroom]
