Zach: You hear that?
Kendall: Spike? Ian?
Zach: No. The other two -- peace and quiet.
Kendall: Mm. How did we do that?
Zach: Don't know. But let's enjoy it. The holidays are just around the corner.
Kendall: And you're expecting the usual family insanity, right?
Zach: Well, we have yet to have a Kane party without fireworks. Maybe this year we'll keep it small.
Kendall: How small?
Zach: I don't know. You, me, and the kids.
Kendall: Are you serious? No. We can't do that, Zach. My mother would disown us.
Zach: So what? She's done it before. Big deal.
Kendall: Yeah, I know that, but the whole reason I came back was, you know, to be with family and friends, the holidays. I want the works this year. I do. I do! I have so much to be thankful for. I don't want to lose sight of that. So I think maybe we could start some new family traditions. You know, you could play the piano, play some songs that you know. And I could play football with my mom in the back.
Zach: Oh, ok.
Zach: You and your mom on the 50-yard line. I don't want to miss that. And that is why I ordered the biggest turkey that Grossman Farms has to offer.
Kendall: You did?
Zach: Yeah. I can't give you a small Thanksgiving. I know you like things big. Come here. Mm!
Kendall: Mm. You're the best.
Greenlee: Hey, Ryan, it's me. I'm just checking to see if you heard anything on Pearson yet. I guess you would have called if you did. Just call me.
Jack: You can't avoid me forever. I'm your father and your lawyer.
Greenlee: Both reasons you should keep me in the loop on my own murder trial.
Jack: Come on. If we had told you about Pearson, you would have fought us putting him on that stand tooth and nail.
Greenlee: Considering how things turned out, I would have been right. At least his lies took Ryan back off the suspect list.
Jack: Oh, yeah. And the focus went right back on you. That's perfect.
Greenlee: And I'll undo that damage when I testify tomorrow.
Jack: Just get up there and start talking. A mere bag of shells.
Greenlee: You got a better plan?
Jack: No. I have no plan at all right now. But Liza is gonna come after you with everything she's got. I will try and protect you if I can, all right?
Greenlee: I'll be fine. Ryan is out there trying to get Pearson, so he can get the whole story. And I'll get on the stand tomorrow and fix this for both of us.
Annie: And extra whipped cream just the way you like it.
Emma: You found the cherries!
Annie: Well, yeah! I'm not gonna let my little girl down.
Emma: You're the best mommy in the whole world.
Annie: Oh, well, I don't know about that. But I do feel better about myself after what I did today.
Emma: Well, what did you do?
Annie: I helped someone who was in trouble, but I did it the way that you're supposed to -- without expecting anything in return.
Emma: Who was it?
Annie: Um, J.R. and A.J.
Emma: You're a good person, Mommy.
Annie: Ohh. Well, thank you, my sweet. I'm trying.
Colby: He's so still.
J.R.: He's unconscious.
Colby: What if he doesn't wake up?
J.R.: He will.
Colby: J.R., he could be paralyzed for life.
J.R.: The nurses said he was stable.
Colby: Yeah, well, stable just means that he's not dying.
J.R.: He's pumped full of medication right now. Once the pain medication wears off, he'll be just fine.
Colby: Why did you have to suck him into taking A.J.? Look how it's turned out for him.
J.R.: I didn't suck him into anything. He knew how pathetic it was. His father was keeping my son from me. He jumped at the chance to make things right.
Colby: You don't think Caleb --
J.R.: Chucked his son down a flight of stairs? I don't think he tripped, Colby.
Colby: We have to take care of him. We're all he's got.
Caleb: I don't even know the boy. He doesn't know me. How could he consider me a father?
Erica: Well, he obviously came to town looking for you to tell you he was your son. Maybe he wants a relationship with you.
Caleb: Maybe he just wants to get even with me. I don't blame him.
Erica: I just wouldn't close the door too quickly on this.
Caleb: I might not have a choice.
Jack: Look, even if Ryan finds our lying witness, who knows what's gonna come out of his mouth again, ok? Now, it's better we try to repair the damage that's been done and pray that putting you on that witness stand doesn't make things worse.
Greenlee: Gee, thanks.
Jack: Yeah. This is serious, Greenlee.
Greenlee: I'm going to testify and prove my innocence. You're not gonna stop me.
Greenlee: Why is that so funny?
Jack: It's not funny. I just got a glimpse of someone I've always wondered about, and it made me smile, that's all.
Jack: You, as a little girl. I've often wondered what I missed by not being there. I had to be a strict father to Lily, because she was a special case, but I think she always knew that I always had her best interests at heart, but you on the other hand, I'm sure you would have fought me with everything you had every time I had to say no to something you really wanted.
Greenlee: It doesn't really matter since you weren't there.
Jack: I guess not. Anyway, I'm there now, and though I don't necessarily agree with you getting on the stand, I support it 100%.
Greenlee: Thank you.
Jack: Yeah. But you'll need to be prepared. You know what Liza is going to come at you with, and it's not going to be easy for her. So let's get some coffee, some take-out to go, and let's go work on this.
Greenlee: Sounds great, but there's something I need to do first.
Jack: More important than this? More important than being prepared?
Greenlee: A half-hour. That's all I need.
Jack: Now, there's that little girl again. I'll be here. I'll be waiting right here.
Greenlee: That doesn't mean that I'm not still mad at you for what you and Ryan did at the trial --
Jack: I understand that.
Greenlee: So no more plans behind my back, ok?
Jack: As long as we have some kind of plan, yes.
Greenlee: We'll get one.
Erica: Caleb, the last thing you need to be is that man I met up on the mountain. I understand how you got to be that way, but please don't take a giant step backwards. You changed when you came to this town. You changed! You were ready to fight for what was rightfully yours. You were ready to fight the Chandlers to get your family legacy back.
Caleb: I'm ready. I'm still ready.
Erica: Well, a big bomb was just dropped on you. And if you refuse to deal with it --
Caleb: I'm here, all right? I'm here.
Erica: But you're saying nothing. You barely say his name.
Caleb: I didn't give him that name.
Erica: I've been where you are. I know what it's like to have a child you never expected to see again come walking back into town and into your life full of anger and bitterness. If you ignore it, it will consume you. But if you deal with it, if you face it head on, Caleb, you could be in for an extraordinary experience, something you never expected, something so wonderful. I know it's not easy. It's the hardest thing I ever had to do.
J.R.: Well, well.
Caleb: What the hell are you doing here?
J.R.: Making sure Asher's still breathing.
Caleb: It's all part of your plan, isn't it?
J.R.: My plan?
Caleb: Using the kid to get to me.
J.R.: Oh, you know. Well, uh, congratulations, Caleb. It's a boy.
Caleb: It's all about you, isn't it? You don't give a damn about the kid.
J.R.: Isn't it a little late in the game for you to be worrying whether or not Asher is hurt? Would you listen to yourself? "The kid"? You can't even bring yourself to call him your son. It's no wonder he hates your guts.
Kendall: I think we're gonna have to get off this couch.
Zach: Who says?
Kendall: I think the boys may have a serious problem with this.
Zach: How about this? We're gonna send them to Disneyland with your mother for a month.
Kendall: No! Ok. Yes. My mother at an amusement park. Really? Can you imagine that?
Zach: I can. She might like it.
Kendall: Yeah. You know what, though? I think you'd miss the boys after one day.
Zach: Yes, I would. But think of this. Your mother gone, four weeks. Pow.
Kendall: Zach, ok, we have to get up. We've got to. It's time.
Zach: Two more minutes.
Kendall: Two? How about 10?
[Knock on door]
Zach: Stay right here.
Greenlee: Hey, I forgot my key. I'm not interrupting anything, am I? I am.
Kendall: No. No, no, no. Don't be silly. No, really, you're our guest. You're our guest. Yeah. We were just, uh, winding down from the day.
Greenlee: I'm hoping from that smile on your face, it means that you're really here to stay.
Zach: Oh, I'm staying.
Greenlee: The only good news I've had all week.
Zach: Is there anything I can do?
Greenlee: No. Just you being here with your family is enough.
Zach: I'm gonna check on the kids. You talk about me behind my back. Bye.
Kendall: Are you ok?
Greenlee: Do I look ok?
Kendall: Uh, well, I guess I could answer that for you, but I think you know the answer.
Greenlee: You just did.
Kendall: Are you still gonna testify tomorrow?
Greenlee: Yeah. And I'm also waiting to hear from Ryan.
Kendall: Where is he?
Greenlee: He's trying to track down that surprise witness.
Kendall: That Pearson guy?
Greenlee: Mm-hmm. Ryan thinks he's up to something.
Kendall: Doesn't he have some grudge against Ryan?
Greenlee: Ryan believes there's more to the story and that it can help my case.
Kendall: And that would make Ryan look guilty.
Greenlee: No. As long as nobody else knows I found the drug that killed David in Ryan's pocket.
Kendall: I haven't told anybody.
Zach: The most important thing about secrets, girls, is that you have to keep them secret.
Caleb: You're not even man enough to have come straight to me.
J.R.: I'm not man enough? Twenty years ago, you ignored your own son. Let me ask you, Caleb, are you the reason he's in the hospital? Did you push him down the stairs? What happened? He told you the truth about who he was? So you decided to finish what you started when he was born. Oh, yeah, just so we're real clear, I didn't turn Asher against you. You were already on the top of his hate list long before I ever met him. I just gave him an opportunity to show how you operate up close.
Caleb: You'd better leave.
J.R.: You know, it's funny. The whole time you were helping Marissa take A.J. from me, your son's been helping me work against you. The whole time I've been fighting for my son, you've been trying to kill yours. Ha ha. You see how funny that is? It's funny.
Zach: All right. Ok. So let's recap. You found an empty vial of digitalis, and you're sure that's what it was.
Greenlee: That's what the lab confirmed.
Zach: Ah. And you found it in Ryan's jacket, but he doesn't know how it got there.
Greenlee: He doesn't even know that it was there.
Kendall: Yeah, if he did, Greenlee wouldn't be on trial.
Greenlee: Because he would turn himself in.
Zach: It might be a good time for him to do that now.
Zach: "What"? They found it in his jacket, right? You found it in his jacket, and that means he probably killed David.
Greenlee: We don't know that.
Zach: Then how did it get in his pocket?
Greenlee: It doesn't matter how it got in his pocket. What matters is no one finds out about it.
Kendall: Especially not Ryan. He would definitely use it to clear Greenlee.
Greenlee: And we can't let that happen.
Kendall: This is not just about Ryan. It's about Spike. It would kill him if he saw his father go to prison.
Zach: And how do you think Spike would feel if he found out his dad killed someone and got away with it?
Greenlee: Look, I know you're not a big fan of Ryan's.
Zach: I'm gonna be even less of a fan if I found out you have to go to prison for something he did.
Kendall: No, what we're shooting for is nobody in prison.
Zach: That's really not working right now, is it? You have Ryan protecting you. And you're here with Kendall protecting him. And you're not together, but you're screwed together.
Greenlee: That about sums it up.
Zach: Welcome back to Pine Valley.
Greenlee: I know you don't like this.
Zach: I hate it.
Greenlee: But you're not gonna tell anyone, are you, Zach?
Kendall: Please, Zach, after everything we've done to protect Ryan. Please don't say anything.
Kendall: Can't you just pretend you didn't hear us?
Zach: It doesn't work that way.
Greenlee: Even to protect someone?
Zach: You really think you're protecting someone, do you?
Greenlee: I have to believe that.
Kendall: Me, too.
Zach: I don't even know what I hate more -- you guys being involved in this or now me being involved in it. Yeah. All right. I'll keep quiet for Spike's sake, for your sake, and your sake.
Greenlee: Thank you.
Kendall: Thank you, Zach.
Zach: Hey, stop. Step back. Now, as for tomorrow, on the witness stand. Just before you answer, take a deep breath. Keep it simple. And watch out for Liza.
Greenlee: Yeah. My father already told me.
Zach: Well, he's right. The case is full of holes, but she wants to win this. She needs to win it. It makes her dangerous.
Greenlee: I'll keep that in mind. Actually, I have to get ready for tomorrow, so I'll let you guys get back to your quiet evening.
Kendall: Don't worry about it. You had to talk.
Greenlee: Yeah, well, it might have been better if I kept my mouth shut.
Kendall: Yeah, you and me both. Listen, don't worry. You've handled worse than Liza before. You can do this.
Zach: Here we are again.
Annie: I used to think it was so important to give you things -- a big, beautiful house and all the dresses and the dolls a little girl could ask for. I guess I thought giving you all that stuff would make up for everything I was lacking as a mother. But then today I did something good for someone else, and I remembered what it feels like to be a good person. That's what I want to be for you. I want to be the kind of mother that you deserve. Because all those things -- the houses and the dresses and the dolls -- they don't matter as long as I'm the best version of myself I can possibly be for you. That's what I wanted from my mom, and it's the one thing I never got. So I'm going to do everything that I can to be that best version of myself.
[Knock on door]
Annie: Ok. Ohh.
J.R.: Hi. May I come in?
Annie: Uh, of course.
J.R.: I won't stay long.
Annie: Are you ok?
J.R.: I should be.
Annie: But you're not. What's wrong? What is it?
J.R.: That kid, Asher Pike, he's in the hospital.
Annie: What? What happened?
J.R.: He fell down a flight of stairs.
Annie: Is it serious?
J.R.: The doctors seem to think that he's gonna pull through.
Annie: Oh, thank God.
J.R.: Caleb was there when it happened.
Annie: Why was he there?
J.R.: He went there to get A.J. back from Chandler Enterprises. He ran into Asher. Too bad for Asher.
Annie: You don't think that Caleb pushed him down the stairs?
J.R.: I wouldn't put it past him, even if he did know that Asher was his son.
Annie: Asher is Caleb's son?
J.R.: Caleb doesn't know it either. It's my guess that Asher told him just before he went down.
Annie: Well, you don't think that Caleb would do something so horrible.
J.R.: I don't know. He tried to take my son from me.
Annie: So, wait. Wait. Did you know about this, the whole Asher thing?
J.R.: I just didn't think it was gonna come down to this. That's not why I'm here anyway.
Annie: Why are you here?
J.R.: I wanted to thank you.
Annie: You don't have to thank me.
J.R.: Yes, I do. You didn't have to take the heat with Marissa. But because of you, now my son is back where he belongs.
Erica: Guess who.
Jack: Oh, gosh. Don't tell me. Um, shoot. I know those manicured fingers anywhere. It's the love of my life.
Erica: Oh, that's such a smart man. Such a good answer. Because if you had said anyone else, you would have been in deep trouble.
Jack: Yeah. And I'm deep enough already.
Erica: I thought you were meeting Greenlee here to go over your strategy for tomorrow.
Jack: She had something she had to do. She said she'd be right back. That was an hour ago.
Erica: Oh, it's gonna be all right.
Jack: Your mouth to God's ear.
Erica: You have handled very tough cases in the past.
Jack: I've never had to put my daughter on the witness stand to testify on her own behalf at a murder trial.
Erica: You think that's a good idea?
Jack: Honey, I think it's a Hail Mary. But it's all we have.
Erica: Well, you're doing a great job.
Jack: I so appreciate your faith in me. I do, even though you don't believe in my daughter.
Erica: Look, as I told you, I mean, my feelings about Greenlee don't matter. It's you I love, and I support you no matter what case you take and no matter who your client is.
Jack: Thank you. Where are you going? You just got here.
Erica: I think I know a way that I can help.
Jack: You think it's a good idea for you to get involved?
Erica: You just keep working, and I'll keep in touch.
Colby: I thought my family was screwed up, that nobody had it as bad as I did when it comes to dysfunctional. But here you are lying in this bed unconscious. And I think to myself, everything that you have been through, all the times I would ask you about your parents, and you would dodge my questions, you'd give me these really vague answers that actually kind of drove me nuts. I guess I just wanted you to be straight with me. And I was a little hurt. Because I just wanted you to trust me. But now I realize the pain that you were going through about your mother and your father -- and I'm so sorry -- that I didn't see what you were going through.
Damon: Hey, I just heard. You didn't call.
Colby: I'm sorry. I didn't want to leave him.
Caleb: Well, you're everywhere, aren't you? What am I supposed to do about this kid? He hates me. I don't blame him. I think he's better off without me.
Kendall: I know what you're thinking. More drama, more Ryan drama.
Zach: And you're right in the middle of it.
Kendall: Yes, I am.
Zach: He said himself he doesn't want you involved in it.
Kendall: Well, he doesn't know about the vial.
Zach: If he knew about the vial, he'd be more adamant about you not being involved in it.
Kendall: Yes. Zach, I'm sorry. But he and Greenlee are two of my best friends. I couldn't just pretend that it wasn't happening. When Greenlee begged me to keep quiet about the vial, I didn't have a choice. I should have told you. And I know you're angry. I understand that. But I thought you accepted it that this is who I am. I can't just turn my back on someone when they need help. I thought you said that was one of the things that you loved about me. And so if you meant that, you can't just shut down on me because of it. Not now, when I need you more than ever.
Zach: Tell me something.
Kendall: Whatever you want to know.
Zach: Any more secrets?
Kendall: None. I swear.
J.R.: She's down for the count.
Annie: Oh, thank you for that. The older she gets, the harder it is to carry her to bed.
J.R.: I miss doing that with A.J. That was one of my favorite things -- to tuck him in, sit at the end of the bed, and watch him sleep. It looked like that wasn't gonna happen. But thanks to you, it will.
Annie: Stop thanking me.
J.R.: I can't help it. What you did was --
Annie: Shocking, out of character, a fluke?
J.R.: I was gonna say beyond generous.
Annie: The truth is, I kind of surprised myself when I offered to take the blame for A.J.'s disappearance.
J.R.: I wasn't surprised. You came to my rescue before, remember?
Annie: Yeah. But my motives last time were not as pure. This time they were. I do feel guilty. I know I have a big part in this -- why Marissa's lashing out at you. And she does have a reason to be angry. You hurt her, but she has no right to use your son to hurt you back.
J.R.: The judge agreed.
Annie: I am just glad that I could help, and I am glad that the judge ruled in your favor.
J.R.: Well, for now anyways. I know a lot of people think that A.J. should be living with Marissa.
Annie: I'm not one of those people.
J.R.: Thank you.
Damon: His son?
Colby: Yeah. I know. I was pretty blown away myself when Asher told me.
Damon: You know what this means.
Colby: That Caleb needs to own up to his huge lie? Yes.
Damon: Well, that Asher has been lying, too. Like, from the moment that he got here. The guy told us that he was just passing through when the real reason he came here was to put the screws to his dad. And not only that, but he dragged you and me into this mess.
Colby: He didn't lie to us to hurt us.
Damon: Colby, he used you to get in good with J.R., and then he roped you into helping him kidnap A.J.
Colby: I didn't get roped into anything. I stepped up.
Damon: Why would you do that?
Colby: Because I didn't think Marissa was being fair to my brother. And he got custody back. So it's not kidnapping.
Damon: Ok, but Marissa had legal custody at the time.
Colby: But that was a judge's mistake. Look, Asher -- he had his reasons for not telling us everything. After all he's been through, I'm not gonna do that to him now.
Caleb's voice: If Sonia were here, if she'd lived, she still loved me. But she betrayed me. I had to punish her for it. I pushed her away to the point where she didn't even tell me that she was carrying my baby. That baby is that kid lying in that hospital bed, fighting for his life. I don't blame him for hating me. Hey, is he all right?
Dr. Beeman: He's gonna be just fine.
Erica: Unbelievable. Unbelievable!
Greenlee: Excuse me?
Erica: You sitting here having a drink at the bar.
Greenlee: I am of age.
Erica: Are you deliberately trying to sabotage your case?
Greenlee: Since when is it a heinous crime to have a drink the night before your trial?
Erica: Since your father is sitting over at Krystal's, where you were supposed to meet him over an hour ago. He is stressing out over how to best prepare you, so he can help you for your case tomorrow, for everything you're facing.
Greenlee: What's it to you anyway? You think I murdered David, don't you?
Erica: Yes, I do.
Greenlee: Does my father know that you think I'm guilty?
Erica: As a matter of fact he does. But he also knows that I support him in whatever case he takes on in spite of my personal feelings about his client.
Greenlee: He must really love you.
Erica: And he loves you, too. And I just wish that you would stop being mad at him, realize that everything he's done for you, he's done out of that love.
Greenlee: I know that.
Erica: Well, then for God's sakes, will you give him a break? Realize how lucky you are to have a father who gives a damn. Not everybody has that.
Greenlee: I do know how lucky I am.
Erica: Well, then work with him. Because if for some reason things go wrong tomorrow, and you haven't given him all the tools he needs to help you, you won't only be going to jail. You'll be breaking your father's heart.
Greenlee: I'm scared. I know what you think, but I didn't do it. I'm innocent, and I could still lose everything tomorrow -- my freedom, my family, Ryan.
Erica: I do understand. I know how you feel. I have been there, just where you are, more than once. I know the fear can be paralyzing. But please, please understand that you have a father who would go to the ends of the earth for you and back, a father who loves you with all his heart, and a father who just happens to be the best damn lawyer on the planet.
Damon: You told me how you yourself were kidnapped by your mom. How is that any different than what J.R. did with A.J.?
Colby: Are we really gonna do this right now?
Damon: I'm just glad you're not the one in the hospital bed. He never should have thrown you into the mix like this.
Colby: He didn't throw or rope me into anything. Why are you acting like I don't have a mind of my own?
Damon: Ok. Let's not fight about this, ok? I'm wiped out. You are, too. Let's just go home and veg out for a while, ok?
Colby: No. No --
Damon: The hospital can call us when he wakes up.
Colby: Damon, I am not leaving.
Damon: Why not?
Colby: Because we're all that he's got. His only family is a biological father who doesn't give a damn. And, Damon, somebody needs to be here when he wakes up. So I'm staying.
Dr. Beeman: The concussion was mild. And he should make a full recovery from the bruised ribs and lung and the tear in his knee.
Caleb: What about the other thing?
Dr. Beeman: No one can know I had any part in this.
Caleb: You have my word.
Dr. Beeman: The DNA is a match. The boy is your son.
Annie: Emma's security object. That's what they called it in preschool. It's what makes her feel safe. She needs one when she has a mother like me.
J.R.: You're a good mom, Annie.
Annie: I'm trying. Being able to bring her to a place like this that's so lovely, it makes me feel like I haven't failed her completely.
J.R.: I'm glad.
Annie: I just hope you don't regret it. I mean, letting us stay at your beach house. That is not going to score points with Marissa in a custody battle.
J.R.: After what you did for me tonight, it's the least I could do. I know what you mean when you say that this is a special place. It's got a good energy. It's like an alternate universe. Maybe that's why Uncle Palmer gave it to me. He probably figured that I might need it to escape.
Annie: It sounds like something Palmer would do.
J.R.: Then if it's cool with you, I'd like to come visit you and Emma once in a while.
Annie: It's your alternate universe. Come when you like.
Damon: At least can we go to the cafeteria and get something to eat? You're gonna wind up in the next cubicle passed out from exhaustion. We'll be 15 minutes, I promise. I eat fast.
Colby: Fine. All right. But I'm holding you to that.
Singer: So many ways to show or to say, but I haven't in a while been running away avoiding the days for a little while you never know what you have until it's through until it's behind you it's a long way down if there's no one there to meet you on the ground yeah, I'm falling hard tell me you'll be there you'll be there it's a long way down if there's no one there to meet you on the ground yeah, I'm falling hard tell me you'll be there
[Greenlee sits at Krystal's talking with Jack; J.R. leaves the beach house smiling; Kendall and Zach have a drink and kiss; Caleb watches over Asher at the hospital while Erica watches him.]
