J.R.: A.J.? Are you in here? A.J.? Damn it. Where could he be? Annie. Have you seen A.J. down by the gate or the gardens?

Annie: No. I just got home. What's wrong?

J.R.: I can't find him anywhere.

Annie: Maybe he's hiding?

J.R.: No. I've looked all over the house. He's gone.

Krystal: So any questions on the filing system?

Caleb: No, no, no.

Krystal: Good.

Caleb: I see where your daughter gets her smarts from. I've kept you long enough.

Krystal: No, no. It's the least I could do.

Caleb: Well, thanks.

Krystal: Caleb, you like my cooking, right?

Caleb: Yeah.

Krystal: Good. I would like to invite you over again for a home-cooked meal.

[Caleb chuckles]

Krystal: No, no. Listen, no interruptions this time.

Caleb: All right.

Krystal: Can I ask you a question?

Caleb: What?

Krystal: Where do things stand with you and Erica?

Jake: Can you believe this? It's trash. It's a smear campaign. That was David trying to smear Angie. That's what that was.

Tad: And every member of the board got one?

Jake: Mm-hmm. It's pronounced "negligent."

Tad: Get away from me.

Jake: That's not the worst of it.

Tad: Yeah, it's amazing. The guy's dead, and he's still torturing people. Poor Angela. If the board chooses to believe this --

Amanda: We have the petition, the letters, all in her favor.

Tad: Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact she chose to practice medicine when she was losing her sight.

Jake: Yeah, she should lose her career over this?

Tad: Not if I have anything to say about it.

Natalia: You want me to go down there, put a hurting on some of these board members?

Frankie: No, no. I don't think threats are the way to go.

Randi: I found the necklace you wanted.

Angie: Oh, thank you, sweetheart.

Jesse: Hey, hey, I got this.

Angie: Baby, no. I need to do these things for myself.

Jesse: Hey, now, I'm -- I got this. I'm not doing this to help you. I'm doing this so I can do that. Mm-hmm. [Kisses Angie's neck]

Frankie: You got nothing to worry about, Mom. You know that, right?

Randi: Everyone knows that you are the best doctor in town. Those charges with David should just go away.

Angie: You know, it's not that easy, sweetheart. It doesn't really work that way. I mean, David's complaints are real. I was going blind, and I didn't tell anyone.

Jesse: Well, you're still one hell of a doctor. And we should get going.

Frankie: Oh. And by the way, I got this cane for you.

Angie: Thank you, and that's sweet of you, Frankie, but I don't need it today. Not when I have my family to lean on.

Natalia: That's right.

Frankie: All right.

Ryan: [Kisses Madison] It almost makes me forget. But not quite.

Madison: I'd bust you out of here if I could, but I actually have to go to Angie's hearing.

Ryan: Even dead, David just keeps on going, huh? Will you make sure Jake got my letter?

Madison: I hate leaving you, but I'll be back for your arraignment.

Ryan: No, you don't have to do that.

Madison: I'll be there. And I'll get your super to let me in so I can get you a fresh shirt.

Ryan: Ha. Should've kept that spare key, huh?

Madison: Then what excuse would I have to flirt with your super?

Ryan: Wow.

[Madison giggles]

Ryan: Hey, whether you're there in person or not, I know that you're there for me.

Madison: Now you're getting it.

Greenlee: My husband was poisoned?

Cliff: Your husband died of an acute overdose of digitalis.

Greenlee: Digitalis? Isn't that --

Cliff: A drug used to treat cardiac patients in small doses. The amount found in Dr. Hayward's system would've been almost instantly lethal.

Greenlee: So the injuries from the fight --

Cliff: The wounds were superficial.

Greenlee: You're sure about this? The fight didn't kill David?

Cliff: There's no doubt about my findings. The fight with Mr. Lavery did not kill David. The police should be looking for the person who poisoned him.

J.R.: All right, you call A.J.'s school. I'll call A.J.'s friend Luke's parents. All right? You know, he was so upset about David dying, but -- Karen? It's J.R. Chandler.

Annie: Hi there. I'm calling on behalf of A.J. Chandler --

J.R.: Is A.J. with Luke?

Annie: Have you seen him on the property since school let out?

J.R.: Will you let me know if he turns up? It's urgent. Thank you.

Annie: If you do see him, will you call his father, please? Thank you.

J.R.: You know, it's not like he saw David every single day, but I guess he's taking it harder than I thought. I was arguing with Marissa about how to handle it, and then it led to arguing about other things and --

Annie: Ok, just tell me what you need me to do.

J.R.: I'll have a driver take you to A.J.'s favorite places. I'll stay here, make more calls, and search the grounds with the staff.

Annie: Ok. I'll call you, all right?

J.R.: All right.

Annie: It's gonna be ok.

J.R.: Annie? Thanks.

Tad: We got the crowd we expect today, it's gonna be standing room only.

Jake: Good. We need it.

Bianca: Looks like I'm early.

Jake: Hey. We are glad you made it.

Bianca: Oh, I just want to make sure I get to speak on Angie's behalf.

Brot: Me, too.

Jake: What's happening? How's the eye?

Brot: It's better, thanks to Angie. I needed more recuperation time, and as always, she made that happen.

Jake: I'm thinking, what's the perfect thing to say or who's the perfect person to say it, you know?

Tad: I'll be right back.

Jake: What -- where are you going?

Tad: I'm gonna find the perfect person.

Angie: Sweetheart, can you get my purse?

Jesse: Yeah.

Angie: You know, it would mean a lot to me if we could say a prayer before we go.

Jesse: Well, it couldn't hurt.

Angie: Dear God, you know my heart and the outcome that I want, but I don't want to be greedy. I love my work, and I am good at it, but I've made mistakes. If I lose my job because of my actions, I'll accept that. And while I miss my sight and miss being able to see all these beautiful faces in this room with me, I have so much to be thankful for -- my precious family, our amazing friends, and this beautiful child on the way that is going to bring so much joy into our lives. Whatever today's outcome, I'm incredibly blessed, and I thank you. Amen.

Randi: Amen.

Angie: There's no need for tears, Natalia.

Natalia: How'd you know?

Jesse: First of all, she could hear you a mile away. She don't need to see us to know that we love the mess out of her. She knows that we got love for her. Right, baby?

Greenlee: I just spoke to the medical examiner. You didn't kill David. He was poisoned.

Ryan: What? How do you know this?

Greenlee: The autopsy report is being sent over to the police probably as we speak, but no doubt, 100%, David died from an overdose of digitalis.

Roy: Well, obviously, this changes everything. I'll put a call into the D.A.

Ryan: Ok.

Greenlee: You're gonna be free.

Ryan: [Sighs] Wait, wait, wait. Who poisoned him?

Caleb: Well, whatever's going on with Erica's got nothing to do with me, and vice versa. Why would you even bring her up?

Krystal: Good question.

Caleb: So what time do you want me for dinner?

Krystal: Come to think of it, tonight is not a good night for me. I -- I have to go to the hospital to support Angie at that board meeting.

[Doorbell rings]

J.R.: Krystal? Is Marissa here?

Krystal: No.

J.R.: Oh. Ok.

Krystal: What? J.R., what is it? What happened?

J.R.: A.J. -- he's missing.

Krystal: What do you mean, he's missing?

J.R.: He went upstairs. I went to look for him, he was gone.

Krystal: He's not with Emma?

J.R.: No.

Krystal: So he just took off?

J.R.: Yeah. I tried to call Marissa, let her know what's going on. She's not answering. Can you reach her, let her know?

Krystal: Yeah. I'll call her right now.

J.R.: All right.

Caleb: Did you call the police?

J.R.: I've already contacted them.

Caleb: Well, we'll find him.

Annie: Hey, have you seen A.J., Krystal's grandson?

Busboy: No, ma'am.

Annie: Are you sure? He likes to sit in the back booth with his coloring book.

Busboy: I haven't seen him. Sorry.

Singer:  You seem confused but you never really had a doubt wide open all the --

Marissa: What are you doing here?

Annie: Has A.J. tried calling you?

Marissa: A.J.? No. He's with J.R. They're going to the office. What happened?

Annie: A.J.'s missing.

Marissa: How could he be missing? He went home with J.R.

Annie: He ran away.

Marissa: What? He ran away? You don't know where he is?

Annie: No.

Marissa: Why would he -- were you with J.R. when A.J. disappeared?

Annie: No!

Greenlee: You didn't kill him. You can go home.

Ryan: Looks like we're both gonna be ok, huh?

Greenlee: I've still screwed up so much. I mean, I got you involved in this to get me away from David, and look what happened. And now Kendall and Bianca hate me.

Ryan: What? They don't hate you. What do you mean? Kendall went to an extreme for you.

Greenlee: I couldn't lie to her anymore, or Bianca. I told them that I knew that David sabotaged Erica's plane and I covered it up for him. As much as you've tried to help me, I've hurt all the people that I've cared about, including you.

Ryan: Yeah, people have been hurt, and there's been a lot of pain and a lot of regret. But the point is, starting now, we can move forward. You can move forward.

Greenlee: Do you even think that's possible?

Tad: Greenlee? I'm sorry. I need you.

Greenlee: How did you know I was here?

Tad: Well, Ryan's here. I mean, it just seemed kind of logical.

Greenlee: Well, he's about to get out. It turns out David was poisoned, so now they'll have to drop the murder charges against him.

Tad: Ha ha ha ha! That's -- I'm sorry. No, I mean, that's not -- that's -- I mean, it's good for you.

Ryan: Yes, I hear you. Thank you, Tad.

Tad: Anyway, there's a little bit of damage control that needs doing. See, Angela Hubbard's being brought up by a board review over at the hospital. The fact is, she could lose her job.

Greenlee: Well, let me help.

Tad: You're willing to speak for her?

Greenlee: For David. I owe him. I want this hospital to be his legacy. He's a brilliant doctor that saved my life, and I want the entire world to remember that.

Jake: Somebody ready for their close-up? Hmm?

Angie: Lights, camera, action.

Jake: Exactly.

Amanda: Angie, you are going to rock this place.

Angie: Oh, Amanda. Opal, what are you doing here?

Opal: Oh, my stars! Well, I guess I'm not the only one with extra sensory powers, huh?

Angie: Oh, I would know that perfume anywhere.

Opal: I am behind you 100%, Angie. Well, heck, the whole town is.

Bianca: That includes me. Hi.

Jesse: Hey.

Bianca: This is from Miranda.

Angie: How's she doing?

Bianca: She's doing fine, thanks to you.

Brot: Angie? I just want you to know I'm here for you.

Angie: How's the eye? Did you go to the outpatient clinic?

Brot: The eye's doing well. If there's anything I can do to say thank you --

Angie: Why don't you just let me hug you, huh?

Board Chairman: I'd like to get started, please. Dr. Hubbard?

Angie: Yes?

Board Chairman: According to the late Dr. Hayward's letter, you've been practicing medicine without fully disclosing your condition, which could expose this hospital to untold lawsuits and financial loss from which we could never recover. This hearing has been called to address those allegations and determine if the charges are serious enough to warrant your dismissal. Is there anything you'd like to say?

Angie: There was a time when people thought that being handicapped was if you were a woman or African-American. I've been facing preconceived notions all my life, but I have never, ever let them hold me back.

Board Chairman: According to Dr. Hayward, you knowingly put patients at risk.

Angie: Well, someone always had my back. I never attended a patient alone.

Board Member: Are you saying other doctors on staff knew of your condition and covered for you?

Angie: In the beginning, the blindness initially was in brief, manageable episodes. And then I just simply arranged for doctors to be present with me.

Board Member: But you continued to treat patients.

Angie: You know, with all due respect, I will never let a handicap prevent me from being the best doctor that I can be. Now, I was infected at this hospital trying to save a young boy's life, and I would do it again. As doctors, we willingly accept risk to save lives, and that is what I did.

Board Member: When you could see.

Angie: Right now, I'm legally blind. But every day, I'm learning to cope with this challenge, so that I could still be a doctor, still be chief of this hospital. And I would not be fighting to keep my position here if I did not believe with every fiber of my being that I'm still as fine a doctor as I ever was. I'm a healer. And you can take away my sight, but you will never take away that.

[Applause]

Jake: In this box, I have letters from patients and families of patients, coworkers, all attesting to Dr. Hubbard's impact on each and every one of their lives. It's in the letters. I have worked next to Dr. Hubbard day after day for several years, and I can personally, unequivocally state her tradition of care and quality of services that my father implemented during his tenure as chief of staff.

Amanda: This is a petition signed by hundreds of people who want Dr. Hubbard to remain as chief of staff. Not long ago, my mother was admitted here, and not only did Dr. Hubbard care for her, but she helped me, as well. There were days that I doubted so many things, and no matter how busy Dr. Hubbard was, she always found time to listen and help and hold my hand.

Madison: I might've ended up homeless if she hadn't taken me in and given me the treatment that I needed and the courage to go on. Even after I did some terrible things to her family, Dr. Hubbard's only concern was my well-being. Her generosity and capacity for forgiveness are immeasurable.

Opal: When I had problems with my heart, it was Angie who was there. She saved me. And though she may not be able to see with her eyes now, Dr. Hubbard sees with her heart, and that is a gift that you would be foolish to underestimate.

Brot: I wasn't the best patient in the world, but Dr. Hubbard never let my attitude get in the way of treating me. As a cop, I've witnessed Dr. Hubbard treat lots of people -- some victims, some perps. And she's had her share of tough customers, but she has never given anything less than everything she has inside of her.

Bianca: Just a few days ago, there was a fire at my house. My daughter Miranda was overcome by smoke. Dr. Hubbard was there. She couldn't see, but she saved Miranda's life. My little girl is alive and well because of that amazing woman over there.

Krystal: No one's seen him at the pool. Where could he be?!

Caleb: We'll find him.

Krystal: You know, I'd like to think of myself as a strong person, but if you weren't here --

Caleb: Well, sometimes it helps to have somebody around, doesn't it?

Krystal: Did I hear you say that?

Caleb: Let's just keep looking.

J.R.: A.J.!

Annie: A.J.!

J.R.: Nothing?

Annie: Nobody's seen him. A.J.!

J.R.: I gave his picture to the police. He asked me what he was wearing. I don't know. What kind of father am I?

Annie: You're a great father.

J.R.: If I was a great father, I'd know what he was wearing. I don't have a clue where to find him.

Annie: We'll have him home by dinner, ok? I promise.

J.R.: Not by standing around.

Annie: A.J.? A.J.? Is this your truck? A.J., I have your favorite orange truck. Are you here? A.J., is that you? Oh, thank God! A.J.? A.J., my sweetheart, come here. Come here. Come out of there. Oh, my goodness. Come here, come here, come here. Are you all right? We were so worried about you. Ohh! What happened?

A.J.: I ran away.

Annie: Why?

[A.J. whispers]

J.R.: A.J.? Oh, my God!

Marissa: Oh, thank God. Thank God! Thank God. Are you ok, sweetie? Oh, my God, we've been so worried about you. Come here.

J.R.: Did he say anything to you, why he took off?

Annie: He said he heard you two fighting -- about him.

[Door opens]

Madison: What are you doing here? How --

Ryan: I didn't do it. I'm free.

Marissa: We're sorry that we upset you, sweetie. That's the last thing that we'd ever want to do. And we both love you so much. You know that, don't you?

J.R.: To the moon and back. No matter if your mom and I aren't living together. Come here.

A.J.: Ok.

J.R.: I love you.

A.J.: I love you, too.

J.R.: All right, so let's stick with our plan, huh? Come to the office? We'll play masters of the universe and have our sundaes with an extra scoop of ice cream?

Marissa: No, you know what? As fun as that sounds, I think it would be a better idea if A.J. stays with me tonight. You can play with Kathy and Jenny, ok? But we'll still have that ice cream.

J.R.: That's even a better idea. Catch you on the flip side? All right.

Annie: Wait, wait. Wait. A.J. might want this.

J.R.: I almost lost my son today.

Annie: But you didn't. Everything's gonna be ok.

J.R.: Is it?

Krystal: Ok, great. Thanks for calling. A.J.'s just fine.

Caleb: Good. Good.

Krystal: Whew! Well, I better get a move on. I'm late for that hearing at the hospital for Angie.

Caleb: Yeah. Well, you give her my best. She's a good doctor, a good woman.

Krystal: Thanks for everything.

Caleb: You're welcome.

Ryan: After the autopsy findings, they had no choice but to drop the murder charges and start a new investigation.

Madison: Someone must've really hated David to poison him.

Ryan: It's incredible. Considering all the people that David has poisoned, it's kind of like instant karma for poison to be the thing to finally take him down.

Madison: Hmm. Well, I am just glad that you're free.

Ryan: I'm with you on that.

Madison: Of course, now I won't be able to prove how incredible I am. Well, I told you that I would stand by you for the duration, even if you went to prison for years, and you told me how incredible I was for making that kind of commitment. But now look. One night behind bars and you're free.

Ryan: Hmm. I still think you're pretty incredible.

Randi: If hope is a cure, then Angie has cured more patients than any other doctor in this hospital. And she gives equally to everyone. An abused hooker gets the same treatment as a board member's daughter.

Natalia: When my mother was dying of cancer, Angie could've turned her back, sent her to another doctor, but she took care of my mother through every step of her illness. She shared her love, her wisdom, and her faith in God. She helped my mother leave this earth in peace.

Frankie: On my second tour, I nearly lost the use of my hands, and again my mother was there. Her love, her advice, her example inspired me and continue to inspire me to be the doctor that I am today. Every life I save is thanks to the fact that my mother saved mine.

Board Chairman: Dr. Hayward sent a letter to this board and the staff outlining his concerns regarding Dr. Hubbard's conduct. Dr. Martin, would you please read that letter?

Jake: Sure. I can tell you right now that whatever's in this letter is just --

Board Chairman: Dr. Martin.

Jake: "It has come to my attention that Dr. Angela Hubbard's behavior has not only been unprofessional, but a potential and serious threat to this facility. She's endangered patients, put the hospital at risk for multiple lawsuits, and failed to honor the Hippocratic oath." Well, that's ridiculous.

Board Chairman: Just read the letter.

Jake: "Dr. Hubbard has lied about her own medical condition, a condition which puts patients in very real jeopardy." That's not good English. "Her lies, combined with her repeated refusal to cooperate with the board -- " I think he means "cooperate with him" -- "threatens the very survival of this hospital." Listen, the only threat here is David himself -- excuse me, was David himself. Listen, David was pathologically jealous of Angie. He was. She has a great family, he didn't. People love Angie and deeply love Angie. He was universally hated. Angie practices medicine with respect and genius. David's license was stripped away from him. I'm just saying this is trash. "As part owner of this hospital, I feel it is my duty to bring Dr. Hubbard's irresponsibility to light and make sure appropriate punitive action is taken. Yours truly, David Hayward," blah, blah, blah.

Board Chairman: Thank you, Dr. Martin. We appreciate your concern, your attendance, and your testimony. At this time, the board will excuse itself to deliberate.

Greenlee: Wait! Wait. As owner of this hospital, I'd like to address my husband's comments before the board makes its final decision.

Board Chairman: You may speak, Mrs. Hayward. And we're sorry for your loss.

Greenlee: Thank you. I understand David's concerns in his letter. Dr. Hubbard did lie to this hospital.

Opal: Should I string her up now?

Tad: Ma.

Greenlee: But Angie Hubbard would never, ever put a patient's life at risk. I know that because I was her patient. She saved my life. Whatever infractions Angie might be guilty of, there is no one who could provide this hospital with the leadership it needs during these difficult times. Yes, it's true she and my husband were constantly at war over this place, but even David would agree that the most important mission here is to save lives, and Dr. Hubbard has saved hundreds. Thank you.

Ryan: What -- what's wrong?

Madison: Everything's right. Everything is incredibly, amazingly right.

Ryan: But?

Madison: Emma. She's been really worried about you, and I promised that as soon as you got out, you would see her.

Ryan: That's the plan. That's what I'm gonna do. As soon as she's finished practice, I'm gonna go over, and I'm gonna spend lots of time with Emma. Ok? Don't worry. I'm gonna spend tons of time later.

Madison: Hmm. But practice is almost over.

Ryan: Really? Is it? Ok. Yes. All right. Ok. Ok, thank you. Because we got lots of time, right? I'm out for good. We got all the time in the world to celebrate.

J.R.: Thank you. Thank you so much for finding A.J.

Annie: No. I just found his toy, and little boys are never far from their toys.

J.R.: Hmm. I drove him to this.

Annie: No, you didn't.

J.R.: Marissa accused me of not being there for him, that I've been too focused on Chandler and other things, that I'm not giving him what he needs. How the hell could I let this happen? My whole life, I hated my father for not giving me attention. He only gave me attention when it was convenient for him, and I swore I'd never be like that. But am I, Annie? Am I like Adam because just like him, I want everything? No matter what damage it causes?

Ryan: Hey, I -- I don't know what I'm gonna say to Emma.

Madison: Tell her it's over.

Ryan: Yeah. It's just I still don't remember exactly what happened that night, so --

Madison: Hey, you didn't poison David. You fought with him. You didn't kill him.

Ryan: Yeah.

Madison: Hey, half the people in this town wanted David dead, and they would've poisoned him the first chance they got, ok, so just stop. You're innocent, and you're free, and your daughter's waiting. Come on.

[Opens door]

Marissa: I know you were upset because your dad and I were fighting, but, sweetheart, you're not the problem. We were just arguing about grownup stuff.

A.J.: Can I stay with you tonight?

Marissa: Yeah. You can stay with me as long as you want.

Annie: You are not your father. You made a mistake. It could've happened to anyone.

J.R.: Well, it's not gonna happen again. I'm not gonna lose my son again.

Annie: Of course not.

J.R.: I have to go.

Angie: Greenlee? Thank you so much for speaking on my behalf.

Greenlee: Well, you saved my life once. If I can do something to help you save your job, we're not even close to being even.

Angie: Well, luckily for us, no one's keeping score.

Greenlee: I'm sure the board will make the right decision.

Frankie: Hey, Mom?

Jake: You know, you rocked this place just like Amanda said you would.

[Laughter]

Angie: I didn't do anything. It was all of you. I mean, your words, the letters, the petition. I have never felt so loved, so appreciated.

Natalia: I'm thinking key to the city.

[Laughter]

Angie: Well, it's not over till it's over. So, listen, why don't you all just go, because the deliberations could take a while.

Randi: No. No chance we're going anywhere.

Jake: We'll camp out if we have to, right?

Frankie: Yeah.

Opal: Oh. Well, look at that.

Board Chairman: Ahem. If I could have your attention? The decision was unanimous. Pending a review of her condition and performance, Dr. Hubbard will remain as chief of staff.

[All cheer]

Greenlee: Ryan? Ryan?

[Phone rings]

Roy: Roy Gibson.

Greenlee: Hi, Mr. Gibson. This is Greenlee Hayward. I just called the station, and they said that Ryan was released, but he's not home yet. Is he still meeting with you?

Roy: Our meeting ended some time ago, though I did hear him trying to track down Madison North.

Greenlee: Madison? But I thought -- never mind.

[Vial of digitalis falls to floor out of Ryan's jacket]

Doctor's voice: The fight with Mr. Lavery didn't kill David. He died of an acute overdose of digitalis.
