Kendall: I came as soon as I could. You have to be ok, Ryan. You have to. Spike -- Spike needs his dad.
Kendall: Oh, my God. Hi!
Kendall: Hi! Ok, you're ok. This is good. Ok, stay there. I'm gonna get a nurse.
Ryan: No, no, no. Don't, don't. Sit down. I'm fine, I'm fine.
Kendall: You're fine? What do you mean, you're fine? The nurses made it seem like you were at death's door! I mean, you're hooked up to this machine.
Ryan: I know. It's a show.
Kendall: For show?
Kendall: What, you're faking?
Ryan: With Jake's help, yes.
Kendall: What? What? Ryan, no, I thought that you were seriously hurt. I mean, that's why I came here. Why are you doing this?
Ryan: Shh, shh. I'm doing this for Greenlee, ok? And now that you're here, I need your help.
Greenlee: What exactly did they say about Ryan?
David: Apparently, he's taken a turn for the worse.
Greenlee: Tell me what that means, David.
David: They're still running tests. He seemed like he was getting better, and then his vitals suddenly plunged. He went unconscious.
Greenlee: And he's not waking up? Why not?
David: One possibility -- another bleed.
Greenlee: So what now? More scans? Surgery? What?
David: I'll see what else I can find out.
Krystal: I'm surprised you'd have the nerve to even show your face. How dare you use my daughter for revenge.
Caleb: What are the specials?
Marissa: That's why I didn't want to tell you.
Scott: Tell me what? Because this -- I don't even know what it is we're talking about here. You come here and you say J.R. and Annie were together. They were what? They were --
Marissa: No. Not yet, at least, but they were so close, Scott. It's like I could feel the heat coming from outside the cottage.
Scott: Did they see you?
Marissa: No. I was frozen. I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. I know that I should've just barged in there, but what the hell was I gonna say? You know what? Who needs words? I don't need to say a damn thing.
Scott: Where are you going?
Marissa: Where do you think?
Annie: Thank you for not blowing Scott out of the water.
J.R.: I told you I don't care what happens to Scott. He made his own bed when he stole the nanotech idea from Palmer.
Annie: He's your family and he's made Chandler a lot of money.
J.R.: Yeah. All based on a lie, a lie that could ruin us all.
Annie: But you won't hurt him?
Annie: Because even though you're angry, you know that it's the right thing.
J.R.: I don't give a damn about the right thing. I don't give a damn about Scott. He doesn't deserve you. He never did.
Kendall: So Greenlee won't tell you what's going on?
Ryan: No, she won't. But it's ridiculous. I mean, come on. She tells Bianca that she's moving out, she's not wearing her wedding ring anymore, and all of a sudden she and David are back together again, just like that out of nowhere?
Kendall: They're just acting like everything's ok?
Ryan: David is acting like everything's ok. There is something going on with Greenlee. I don't know what it is. It was so close to her finally telling me, then all of a sudden my head started acting up again.
Kendall: Ok, Ryan, and why should I care about any of this? I have a life away from here. And all the things I heard about Greenlee -- I mean, what she did to my company and my mother?
Ryan: That was David, ok? I have never been more sure of that than ever.
Kendall: No, Greenlee still makes her own decisions.
Ryan: David is poison, Kendall. You and I both know that.
Kendall: Ok, yes, I know that, but I still don't understand what you want me to do.
Ryan: I want you to talk to her. I want you to get her to try and open up.
Kendall: Ryan, Greenlee still hates me. She hates me for sleeping with you and for lying about her accident. What makes you think she'll even talk to me, let alone open up?
[Rhythmic knock on door]
Kendall: What is that?
Ryan: That's Jake.
Jake: Was that supposed to be four at the end of three? Is that -- hello!
Kendall: Hello! Hi. I'm good. Wait. Hold on a second. Wait -- yes, I'm here. What was that? Was that, like, your little secret knock thing?
Kendall: That's very fifth grade of you, really.
Jake: Well, don't try it till you've knocked it.
Ryan: No, that's backwards.
Kendall: That's bad.
Ryan: We do it so that I don't have to be unconscious all the time. That's why -- so I know it's him coming in. Will you help?
Kendall: I don't know. I don't know. But first of all, this whole "getting way too involved in other people's business" thing? This is exactly why Zach wanted us to stay away.
Ryan: I'm asking you to try and help a friend who could be in serious trouble here. That's what I'm asking.
Kendall: Ok, a friend who probably deserves what she gets, and who wants nothing to do with me.
Ryan: Well, that's pretty much been your relationship from the very beginning, right? You guys hurt each other, but you won't let anybody else do it.
Jake: That's true.
Ryan: She's in trouble and she wants out of this marriage. I'm sure she wants out of it, but for some reason she's stuck, and I don't know why.
Kendall: I'm sorry, you guys. I'm not buying it, Ryan. Greenlee is not exactly a wimp.
Ryan: No, she's not. But neither was Amanda, right, or Krystal, or Dixie, or any of the women that David has taken advantage of. Greenlee's convinced that she can take on this guy by herself, and she is wrong. She needs our help.
David: Thank you very much. Ryan's gonna be well taken care of. I'll see to it personally.
Greenlee: Do me a favor. I've accepted the terms of your deal, but don't act like you care whether Ryan lives or dies.
David: I already told you I do care. Because if anything ever happened to Ryan, I know that you would never forgive me. And I'm already holding out hope that you're gonna forgive my blackmail. So I'll tell you what. How about this time you don't sneak around, make excuses? If you want to see Ryan, why don't you just tell me?
Greenlee: I can do that. In fact, I'll prove it right now. I'm going to see Ryan.
David: Perfect timing. I was just on my way to the hospital.
Annie: J.R., please don't do this.
J.R.: I came here to fix my marriage. Marissa never showed.
Annie: Oh. Well, that doesn't mean --
J.R.: I asked her to have my baby, and she looked at me like I smacked her across the face. And now my company is sitting on a house of cards thanks to Scott. I should be running back to Pine Valley, but all I want, all I can think about is grabbing you and throwing you on that bed. You know how I found Uncle Palmer's journal? I was trashing the place because I was so pissed I couldn't get you out of my head.
Annie: It doesn't matter what is in your head, ok? Look at us. We finally did what we've been trying to do for months. We're putting our family and our company before ourselves.
J.R.: Look where that got us.
Annie: I'm getting married. I am happy, ok? And, no, it's not always easy, but look at us. We're here. We're here instead of messing around in that bedroom. I mean, it counts for something.
J.R.: You know, if I wanted to, I could drive Scott right out of your life.
Annie: And then we would both end up with nothing. Is that what you want?
J.R.: You should go.
Annie: What do I tell Scott?
J.R.: Tell him -- tell him that he's a lucky man.
Scott: No, no. Just -- what are you gonna do if you go back there?
Marissa: I don't know. I'll figure it out.
Scott: No. One, you shouldn't be driving -- not in the state that you're in -- and, two, to go back so you can put yourself through this all over again? Why?
Marissa: It almost killed me, I swear to God, seeing Annie's hands on J.R.'s face.
Scott: Ok, just -- Annie took a phone call. She said that she needed to go take care of something. Just what did you see, exactly, Marissa? What? I mean, Annie and J.R. -- what? Were they kissing? What?
Marissa: Worse. Worse. They were close, you know? Like this. And they were just staring into each other's eyes like they were the last people left in this world. J.R.'s never looked at me like that before. Has Annie?
Marissa: You're so good, Scott. I'm sorry. You don't deserve this.
Scott: Neither do you.
Krystal: What the hell are you doing? What, are you gonna hire Marissa so that she'll tell you all the Chandlers' dirty little secrets?
Caleb: Actually, I was looking for a legal aide.
Krystal: She's not stupid. You know that?
Caleb: That's why I hired her.
Krystal: She's vulnerable, and she's going through a really tough time right now with her marriage and with her career. So for you to take advantage of her like that is just plain cruel.
Caleb: I am not gonna hurt your daughter. If I'm gonna get back in this legal game, I could use her help, and I can help her. I can get her to pass the bar. I guarantee it.
Krystal: Ok, look, I'm sorry. All right? I'm really pretty stressed. I just had it out with Marissa a little while ago about J.R. I told her that I didn't think she should trust him, and of course, she got really upset with me. I mean, I just want to help her. I owe her that much.
Caleb: Why do you owe her?
Krystal: You know, it's a long story, and I don't think you'd even believe me if I told you.
Caleb: Try me.
Krystal: I was dirt poor when I had Marissa. I actually had twins, and I couldn't -- I couldn't keep them both. I couldn't afford to keep them both. I knew of a really good family who wanted a baby, and I sold her.
Caleb: That's rough.
Krystal: Yeah, for Marissa.
Caleb: For both of you. You could spend the rest of your life trying to make up for something like that.
Scott: Um -- so Annie and J.R. are together? I really thought we had something.
Marissa: I hate that I hurt you.
Scott: No, you didn't hurt me. You just told me the truth.
Marissa: Can I ask you something?
Marissa: You saw firsthand the way Annie behaved around you and J.R., the whole time being married to Adam. How did you get here -- trusting her, loving her?
Scott: Ah. Yeah. You know what, Marissa? I had been on my own for so long, a long time, and when I met Annie, we just had this instant connection. We had this understanding. Kind of like how it was with you, not that you two are anything alike.
Marissa: Thank God for that. I'm sorry.
Scott: After this, no offense taken. [Laughs]
Marissa: So go on.
Scott: I guess I really thought that I was Annie's answer. I was gonna be that guy, you know, that one guy that looked past all the crap and could accept her. And I know this sounds weird, but by being her answer, she became mine. I really thought she was ready to change. Stupid, huh?
Marissa: You're asking me? My loving husband has cheated on me twice now -- that I know about.
Scott: You ever wish we could go back?
Marissa: To when?
Scott: Before Annie and me? Before Annie and J.R.? Before Annie and Adam?
Marissa: And me and J.R.?
Marissa: If it wasn't for A.J., I'd say yes in a heartbeat.
Kendall: You know I would do anything to get back to the way Greenlee and I were. I love her. But is it even possible at this point? I mean, Ryan, last time I saw her, she was so angry. And think about it: You and I are the reason she married David in the first place.
Ryan: Exactly. She was just as pissed at me as she was at you, and she and I finally managed to get through that.
Kendall: Yeah, I wonder why. Maybe because you're the love of her life?
Ryan: No, Kendall. Things have changed, ok? But you are still her best friend, and I know things have been kind of lousy lately, but I promise you Greenlee will remember that.
Kendall: Well, things haven't completely changed. You're still doing everything you can to save her.
Ryan: I'm doing it because she needs help, not because I --
Kendall: Yeah, ok, Ryan. You can fill me in on that later, ok? Just put me to work.
Jake: Oh, hey. [Coughs]
Ryan: Someone's here.
Jake: [Coughs] Ahem. Sorry, Greenlee.
Greenlee: How's Ryan?
Ryan: You ready?
Kendall: Let's do this.
Krystal: You know, after everything Marissa's gone through, I just want the best for her. She's the real deal. She's smart as a tack. She's dedicated. She's passionate.
Caleb: I can see that.
Krystal: Yeah. I just need to get her to see it now. When she failed the bar, I just think she really started doubting herself.
Caleb: Maybe if she spent less time worrying about J.R., she could focus on her studies. Hmm?
Krystal: You know, I really do think you're gonna be a good influence on her. Just don't go giving her any ideas about running off to some mountaintop.
J.R.: Hey, Gordie, it's J.R. Can you send over the numbers for the nanotech project? Profit projections, technical specifications -- just send over everything that you got. No, Scott's not gonna be involved in this part. I know that it's Scott's project, but some things are about to change.
Caleb: Hey, Junior? Party's over.
Annie: Scott? Are you home?
Marissa: [Sighs] God. I moved back in here knowing what J.R. did.
Scott: You love him.
Scott: Nothing you can do about that, no matter how much it tears you apart.
Marissa: He humiliated me, and I came back over and over. How pathetic does that make me?
Scott: What it makes you is human. You always believe the best in people, and I love that most about you.
Marissa: I love that about you, too. He said he wanted me, this life. Why wasn't I good enough?
Scott: No, no. You stop that, ok? J.R. isn't good enough for you, and he never was. You deserve someone who is going to put you first, who is going to take care of you and treat you like the smart, beautiful, amazing woman that you are.
Jake: Ryan is in very serious condition.
Greenlee: Ok. What are you doing about it?
Jake: Well, there's not really a lot we can do, just keep an eye on him. I think this happened when he left the hospital.
Greenlee: When he left to see me?
Jake: Yeah. Well, he wasn't ready. I'm sure you saw something.
Greenlee: I thought he recovered from that.
Jake: I don't think he ever made a full recovery. Now his body is shutting down.
Greenlee: I want to see him.
Jake: Well, there's somebody in there right now.
Kendall: Hey, Greenlee.
J.R.: I called an order in on the way.
Krystal: Yep. For you and Marissa?
J.R.: For me and Scott -- private meeting. Is A.J. here?
Krystal: Yeah, yeah. He's in the back. He's making some marshmallow taffy. I just checked on him. Where's Marissa? She didn't go to the beach house with you?
J.R.: She was supposed to. I'll get A.J.
Krystal: Wait. She backed out? Did she give you a reason?
J.R.: No. Do you know the reason, Krystal?
Krystal: Uh-huh. No, sirree. I am done playing marriage ref.
J.R.: Oh, so you were playing before? What did you say to Marissa?
Krystal: Well, you know what? She told me about your idea to have a baby, and I told her what I thought about it.
J.R.: And I'm pretty sure that's none of your business.
Krystal: Well, you know, call me crazy, but she's my daughter, and I want what's best for her.
J.R.: And I don't?
Krystal: Marissa deserves all of you, and I just don't see how you can give her that when you're still stuck on Annie.
Krystal: Oh, come on. Please. Don't act so shocked. Are you kidding? I saw the pull between you two. Everybody does.
J.R.: And you told Marissa all of this?
Krystal: Yeah. As a matter of fact, I did. She wasn't too happy about it. For some crazy reason, I think she still believes in you.
J.R.: It wasn't so long ago you did, too.
Krystal: I want to trust you, J.R. I really do because I know that's what Babe would've wanted. But you just keep disappointing me over and over and over again.
J.R.: Well, not anymore. I've got things in control. I went over to the cottage to rebuild my marriage, and I figured some things out while I was there. Things that are gonna put me in a better place, things that will help Marissa and me. Krystal, I love her.
Krystal: I'm not the one you need to convince. I'll go get A.J.
Caleb: Hey, Junior? Buy you a drink?
Annie: Madison? Hi. It's Annie. I wanted to check on Emma. He what? I thought Ryan was getting out. Oh, my God, is he all right? No. Thank you for telling me. Give Emma a kiss for me and tell her that I'll see her soon, ok?
Jake: Whoa, whoa. Where do you think you're going?
David: I guess you must've forgotten, Jake, but I own this hospital. Now, that's a sad day for you, not so much for me, but it means I can go anywhere I want.
Jake: Well, not today.
Kendall: I'm so used to the coffee in Europe. This stuff probably tastes vile.
Greenlee: Well, we are in a hospital.
Kendall: Good point.
Greenlee: When did you get here?
Kendall: Uh, today, about an hour ago.
Greenlee: Did Bianca call you?
Kendall: Yeah, yeah. We were docked in New York, so that was good -- made for an easy trip. Have you seen Ryan?
Greenlee: Not since the latest setback. How is he? Did he wake up at all?
Kendall: He was in and out.
Greenlee: Well, that's good, right? I mean, it's something.
Kendall: I don't know. When I first got to his room, he was unconscious. He looked -- he looked pretty bad. But then I started talking to him about Spike, and he opened his eyes.
Greenlee: Of course, he did.
Kendall: Yeah. So I just kept talking. I just kept trying to get through to him. I was saying everything I could possibly think of, talking about all the people who care about him. And then he got really agitated and tense, and then the monitors started beeping. Then Jake had to rush in and give him some medicine to calm him down. It scared me to death.
Greenlee: What were you talking about when it happened? Why did he get so upset?
Kendall: I was talking about you, Greenlee. I just mentioned your name.
Jake: I know you bought this hospital, but I am Ryan's attending, and I don't want him upset by some huge, oozing ball of insecurity.
David: Wow. The flattery never ends with you, does it, Jake?
Jake: He's sick.
David: Hence my wanting to check on him.
Jake: You don't want to check on him. You want to upset him. You want to get in his face and you want to upset him. He is my patient. He has had an aneurysm. If you do that, you will be slapped with a lawsuit. This place will be buried with legal fees for years. Stay the hell out of this room!
Kendall: I want to thank you.
Greenlee: For what?
Kendall: For dropping the charges against me, knowing I wouldn't be facing a pair of handcuffs when I came home.
Greenlee: Well, the person you should be thanking is Ryan. I needed help with Fusion, and he wouldn't give it to me unless I dropped the whole thing. So I did.
Kendall: Well, I'm grateful, especially because it allowed me to come back here to see Ryan.
Greenlee: I'm actually surprised you're even talking to me. You must've heard the rumors with the Miranda scandal and your mom's plane crash.
Kendall: I don't think now's a time to get into that, do you? I mean, especially with everything going on with Ryan.
Greenlee: Do you think he's --
Kendall: I don't know, but I'm scared.
Greenlee: Did he say anything? I mean, when you mentioned my name, and he got so upset?
Kendall: He just -- he said your name. Jake said he busted out of here? He went without being released? He went to see you? I guess he was trying to get some sort of information or something? It must've been pretty important for Ryan to risk his life.
Jake: So Kendall is working on Greenlee, and I got David to hold off.
Ryan: Excellent. If you get in trouble, if something happens --
Jake: The beauty of this charade is that your symptoms -- they don't have a test for this. He can't prove anything. Hayward can't prove anything.
[Pounding on door]
Jake: It's the secret knock.
Ryan: No, Jake, it is not the secret knock. Go, go.
Annie: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Ryan, can you hear me? Oh, my God! How long has he been like this?
Jake: A while now. And it's really important that he gets his rest.
Annie: No, I'm not leaving!
Jake: Well, I'm telling you that you're leaving. Please. Doctor's orders.
Annie: Jake, this is the father of my child. There are things I need to say to him in case, you know -- I just hope he can hear me.
Caleb: I forgot you can't touch this stuff because you have trouble controlling your impulses -- booze, women, other people's companies.
J.R.: [Chuckles] You still whining about losing Cortlandt? You need to get over it. But what are you doing hanging around my wife?
Caleb: Uncle Pete sent me here for a reason -- thank you -- and I'm here to make things right.
J.R.: Good luck with that.
Caleb: Luck? Inside information, corporate espionage -- who needs luck?
J.R.: The sale of Cortlandt to Chandler was by the book. We're clean.
Caleb: "Clean"? The very word gets dirty coming out of your mouth. You're exactly like your old man. You're not capable of clean.
J.R.: You go ahead. Keep on reaching.
Caleb: I don't have far to reach. There's always a flaw.
J.R.: I'm gonna see what's keeping my son.
Caleb: Your family's falling apart, Junior. I know it. You know it. Hell, everybody knows it. And your partner Scotty, good old cousin Scotty -- well, that's a team that's ready to collapse.
J.R.: You don't know a thing about my family.
Caleb: It's all unraveling, isn't it? Took less than five minutes with your wife to see that.
J.R.: If you think you can use her to get to me --
Caleb: If I come at you, it'll be face to face. As for Marissa, I wouldn't hurt her, and I wouldn't use her. I'd leave that to you.
[Marissa and Scott put their clothes back on]
Marissa: That wasn't supposed to happen.
Scott: I know.
Marissa: Yeah. I was packing. I was ready to leave.
Scott: I just wanted to help. I didn't mean to. I wasn't trying to take advantage --
Marissa: I know, I know. Of course. You never would. We both just lost people we love, and -- but this wasn't the way to handle things.
Scott: No, no. We were angry. We were hurt.
Marissa: I just needed something.
Marissa: Well, I came up here for a reason, right?
Scott: Where do you think you'll go?
Marissa: I haven't gotten that far yet. All I know is I'm leaving J.R.
Annie: If you don't make it through this, it's gonna be really, really hard on me. But I want you to know no matter what happens, I will always take care of Emma and make sure that she has the life and the family that she deserves. Because I found somebody who truly loves me. Scott accepts me for who I am and for what I am and all of my faults, and the truth is I love him, too. It's true. And I am done with J.R. I mean, is there still something there? Of course, there's still something there. There probably will always be something there, but we're not gonna act on it ever again. I mean, I just saw him. I saw him at his beach house, and anything could've happened there, but it didn't. Nothing happened. It could've, but it didn't. Nothing happened. So -- so get some rest, Ryan, and get better. But just know that I will always take care of Emma no matter what. And Scott will always take care of us. Ohh.
Annie's voice: It's me. We have a huge problem. J.R. found out that you stole Palmer's nanotech project. I'm at the beach house now trying to make sure that you're safe, but I --
Singer: Do I have to tell you everything I think?
Krystal: Marissa, honey, what's wrong? It's ok, all right? It's all right.
Singer: Do I have to show you what I really want?
Singer: Wounded dog hounded heart I'll give you an inkling spare you a notion nothing more you get what you pay for
Greenlee: What, are you blaming me for what happened to Ryan?
Kendall: No, no. All I'm saying is if you and Ryan are going through something --
Greenlee: What does that mean? Did he say that we're going through something?
Kendall: No. But, Greenlee, clearly you're on his mind. He's busting out of here to get to you, he's calling your name during fits. All I'm saying is if you know what's bothering him, maybe you could put his mind at ease when he wakes up -- if he wakes up.
Greenlee: "If" he wakes up?
Kendall: I don't know. I mean, this could be your last chance to talk to him. You never know.
Annie: You're back?
Kendall: You miss me?
Annie: No, not really.
Kendall: Oh, it's good to see you, too, Annie.
Annie: I should've known you both would be here, Ryan's trusty fan club.
Greenlee: Now is not the time.
Annie: You know what? For once, you're right. If Ryan wakes up, and you're both still here -- who am I kidding? Of course, you both will still be here -- please tell him that I took Emma and brought her home. Hello?
Greenlee: Of course, we'll tell him.
Annie: Thank you.
Greenlee: Can I see him now?
Jake: Sure. Come on.
David: Kendall? I didn't know --
Kendall: You're a bastard.
David: Not exactly the happy reunion I was expecting.
Kendall: What should I be happy about, David? That you sabotaged my mother or almost killed her?
David: I did no such thing.
Kendall: Ok. Then I'll just take your word for it.
David: All right, you know what? Believe what you want. But for the record, I would never hurt your mother. My conscience is clear.
Kendall: You sure about that?
Jake: Why don't I give you a minute alone.
Greenlee: Thanks. Whew. Ok, Ryan. I know you're not used to hearing this and, huh, God knows I'm not used to saying it, but tell me what to do. Whatever you need, whatever it takes, just name it. It's yours.
