Episode #10432

Damon: You're not calling the cops on your mom.

Colby: She switched your medication. Damon, that has to be illegal.

Damon: Even if it is, you're not gonna send your own mother to jail.

Colby: I am never, ever gonna forgive her.

Damon: I was actually kind of ok not taking the pills. I mean, I didn't wig out too much without them, right?

Colby: Right. I mean, you were a little off, but -- wait. In New York, you were off your pills. Is that the only reason why you told me you loved me?

Krystal: Oh. Hey. If you're looking for Tad, he's not here.

Liza: Oh. Yeah, it's probably better off that he's not. I'm not exactly sure what I was gonna say to him, anyway. I should just stay out of his life for good, really. I -- oh.

Krystal: Liza.

Liza: I'm good. I'm good.

Krystal: No. No, listen. Let's go inside and take a look at that, all right?

Tad: The woman is a powerhouse. Having a baby is hard enough as it is. Knowing she might never see again --

Jesse: I can't just sit back and do nothing, watch her go blind, Tad. I can't run out on her again.

Tad: It's hardly the same thing.

Jesse: Hey, 22 years ago, I left Angela in the lurch to take care of herself, to fend for her -- I won't allow that to happen again.

Angie: I was beginning to think that you were avoiding me.

Jake: Well, I didn't know if it was safe to stop by. You know --

Angie: Yeah, it's safe. I told Jesse that there was a possibility I might lose my eyesight.

Jake: Well, that's not necessarily true, but what did he say?

Angie: Well, when I told him that I had to stop taking medication that could possibly save my sight because of the baby, it wasn't good.

Jake: Well, you know, the good news is you have him in your corner now, right? So that's --

Angie: Yeah. He thinks that my eyesight should be our first concern.

Jake: Well, I can't blame him for saying that.

Angie: Look, I won't put my baby at risk, Jake, and I need you as my friend to support me in this.

Jake: Of course, I support you.

Angie: Because I really don't have any other choice.

Jake: Well, I don't know if that's true. I mean, you know, I'm just saying --

Angie: No, I know what you're saying, and I know what Jesse is saying. Look. I can handle a high-risk pregnancy. And now I know that I could even handle going blind. What I can't handle is having to fight Jesse through all of it.

Annie: You can't say things like that.

J.R.: I just thought we could be honest, that's all.

Annie: No. No, there is a limit. Saying you can't watch me walk down the aisle to another man: Way over the limit.

J.R.: All right. Fine. I don't want to argue with you.

Annie: What do you want from me, J.R.?

J.R.: I want this -- I want this tension to go away between us.

Annie: Me, too. That's why I am proud of us for keeping our promise.

J.R.: Yeah. We almost broke that promise at Uncle Palmer's cottage.

Annie: But we stopped ourselves. That and my love for Scott is what has kept me strong.

J.R.: You know, Uncle Palmer willed that cottage to me, you know, to get away when I'm losing touch with what really matters. Maybe I need to start using it for that, to get my family back together.

Annie: That's a good idea. Well, I have an elopement to plan.

J.R.: [Sighs] Hey, Marissa. No, everything's fine. I do want to see you. It's a surprise.

Damon: Wait. You think I don't love you now?

Colby: Just forget I asked. I don't --

Damon: Hold on. Hey. Hey, hey, look at me. Look at me. No way did not having those drugs in my system make me say something I didn't mean. Maybe at the worst it came out faster than it would have, but I meant it, ok? You mean more to me than anyone I've ever met in my whole life.

Colby: Ok. Ok.

Damon: Hey, there's no meds in my system right now, but I can still use my fancy bag of focus tricks, all right? Deep breath. Relax. Take control of the situation.

[Colby giggles]

Damon: Hey, look at that. I'm still totally in love with you. Who knew?

[Cell phone vibrates]

Colby: Are you expecting a call? What is going on?

Damon: No, it's probably just Tad leaving another message. I guess he is really worried about me.

Colby: Mmm. You feel bad?

Damon: I don't know. I didn't love running out on the guy, you know? He just wanted to be a dad to me. I never really had that before. Yep, it's Tad again.

Colby: Come on.

Jesse: How do you help somebody accept giving up their dream? The minute I met Angela, all she ever wanted to do was become a doctor, practice medicine.

Tad: Well, maybe she can still do that.

Jesse: It won't be the same. It'll kill her giving this up.

Tad: Jesse, at this point in her life, maybe being a mother is more important than being a doctor.

Jesse: Or maybe she's doing what she always does: Putting someone else's life ahead of hers. You know what? If she won't put herself first, I will.

Angie: Jesse's having a really hard time with my decision.

Jake: Thank you. Well, he cares about you. Of course, he is.

Angie: I know. But I have faced so many challenges in my life, Jake. This is just another.

Jake: This is not exactly just another challenge.

Angie: I'm not saying that it's going to be easy, but, you know, no matter what happens to my eyes, no one can ever take away what I've already seen, the memories that are etched in my brain. Like the first time I saw Jesse at high school. He had this hat. He had it put on backwards with that "don't mess with me" smart-ass smirk on his face. And when we got married, I stood next to him just squeezing the life out of these bright yellow daffodils that he gave me. And when Frankie was born, those dark eyes wide open like he was ready to take on the world -- his father's eyes, the same ones that I saw at that train station that day. Jesse was older, he was thinner, but in those eyes, I saw the same man that I had fallen in love with 20 years before. All those wonderful memories, I will never stop seeing them for the rest of my life.

Jesse: You know the children. You really think you're smooth, don't you? Getting me to talk about Angela, so you don't have to talk about your son.

Tad: Oh, you mean my son, the one that took off from Pine Valley, because he can't stand the sight of me? That son?

Jesse: Yeah. Hey, you forget that your sister Jenny and I, we were the same age when we took off for New York.

Tad: That's right.

Jesse: Yeah.

Tad: I hadn't thought about that in a long time.

Jesse: Well, we came back. Damon will come back. I'm just sorry you didn't find him in New York, so you at least knew he was ok.

Tad: Oh, I didn't say that. I found him in New York. Unfortunately, Liza was with me. That's when things kind of went south.

Jesse: Because of the whole kissing thing?

Tad: No, no, no, it wasn't like that. It wasn't what Damon did to Liza. It turns out, it's what Liza did to Damon and the rest of the world. It's messed up.

Jesse: So you're done, huh?

Tad: With Liza, yeah. And as a bonus prize, it looks like Damon's done with me.

Jesse: Look. I know it's really tough letting the kid do what he needs to do and hoping everything's gonna be all right.

Tad: It's no harder than it is for you with Angela.

Angie: I know I promised that I was done asking you favors, but if I lose my vision again at the hospital --

Jake: No, stop. I've got your back.

Angie: Yeah. I don't want David using my blindness as ammunition to get rid of me, and definitely not before I can choose my replacement.

Jake: Ok, we're not gonna talk about replacements, ok?

Angie: Listen. It's a reality that I have to face. I mean, I know that I'm probably going to have to step down, and I don't want David hiring some incompetent yes man that he can walk all over. Do you know what that would mean to patient care?

Jake: Yeah, I know we would have no patient care if it's up to Hayward. I'm not gonna let that happen.

Angie: I know you won't, and that's why I want you to be my replacement.

Jake: We're not having this conversation. You hear me?

Angie: Jake, I can't think of anyone more suited to the job.

Jake: Well, I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I don't want your job. I'm not taking -- I'm not gonna -- I would never do that. David would never allow that. It's not happening.

Angie: Well, this is not just about him. Now, I will work on the board of trustees, and if I get them all to back you, David will have no choice.

Jake: Listen. I understand you need some time. You need some time to have the baby, you need some time for you and Jesse, but you're not leaving the hospital. You understand me?

[Knock on door]

Angie: It's probably Natalia and Frankie.

Jake: Do they know?

Angie: It's time they do.

Frankie: Hey, hey.

Natalia: Hey! What's up? Nice to see you. I know. It's been a while.

Frankie: What's up, man? How you doing?

Jake: I'm out of here.

Frankie: What, you leaving because of us?

Jake: No, no. You know, I see you here, I see your mom here, I'm here. Who's at the hospital? No one's minding the shop. I got to, you know -- I love you. Take care of her. I'll call.

Angie: Well, thanks for coming.

Natalia: You said it was important.

Frankie: Which is why we brought ice cream.

Natalia: His idea.

Frankie: Well, all news is better with ice cream.

Angie: Yeah, well, I can't argue with that one.

Frankie: Mm-hmm. So what's up? It's not Dad, is it?

Natalia: Well, he is having a hard time with no job to go to every day.

Angie: Well, actually, he's going to get another job -- as a new daddy. Mm-hmm. Jesse and I are having a baby.

Marissa: So what's going on? What's this big surprise?

J.R.: I want to get away, just the two of us, take that weekend that we planned at Uncle Palmer's that we never took.

Marissa: Yeah. A lot was going on then.

J.R.: Yeah, but I want to make it up to you, ok? Just us, no interruptions, no distractions.

Marissa: It sounds nice.

J.R.: Yeah? So you'll come?

Marissa: Well, yeah. I'm gonna have to ask Krystal, though, if she can look after A.J.

J.R.: Why don't you take care of that? I'll head up to the cottage, get everything ready. That way, you'll have plenty of time to pack.

Marissa: Ok. Yeah, let's give it a shot.

J.R.: Great. I want to be what we used to be.

Marissa: Me, too. I'll call you after I talk to Krystal, ok?

J.R.: Ok. Hey. This is gonna be great. New beginnings for everyone.

Tad: Krystal? You home? Well, she's not supposed to be here.

Liza: I found Damon.

Tad: Is he all right?

Liza: Yeah, he's doing fine, especially now that I gave him back his medication.

Tad: Well, that was mighty big of you.

Liza: He's in Ohio, and I almost convinced him to come back.

Tad: Liza, just do all us a favor, all right? Leave Damon alone. Leave all of us alone.

Liza: I'm sorry.

Tad: Ok. Well, you said what you came to say, so now you can go.

Krystal: [Sighs] She told me everything, Tad. And, you know, she really did seem very, very sorry.

Tad: Well, only because she got caught.

Krystal: You know, I know you're angry with her right now, but I'm sure you're gonna find a way to forgive her.

Tad: Huh. I don't even know if I can forgive myself.

Krystal: What do you mean? What did you do?

Tad: Damon made it perfectly obvious that he wasn't comfortable with the whole, you know, father/son thing, and I didn't care. I just kept pushing and pushing and pushing. And I was so focused on that, I couldn't see what was going on right under my nose. I guess that makes Damon's disappearance as much my fault as it is Liza's.

[Knock on door]

Krystal: I, uh, got to get to the restaurant, so -- I'm, uh, glad you're back.

Damon: So I, uh, lost my key. You got a spare one you could give me?

Jesse: Ho!

Angie: Hey! I'm just so glad you're home. Where were you?

Jesse: I was out getting this.

Angie: Ohh, ice cream. Good, because we were running low.

Natalia: There's the proud papa! Congratulations.

Jesse: Whoa. Whoa. They

Angie: Yeah, I had to tell them.

Jesse: You couldn't wait till I get back so we could tell them together?

Angie: You're right. I should have. I'm sorry.

Frankie: So, you think you'll remember how to change diapers, old man? Congratulations. Ohh.

Jesse: So you didn't tell them everything?

Angie: I wanted to give the good news first.

Jesse: You can't separate them, baby.

Frankie: What's Dad talking about?

Natalia: Everything's all right, isn't it?

Scott: The initial profits on the nanotech patent have been posted, and they are through the roof.

Annie: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, this is amazing. I am so proud of you. I knew you could do it. This is huge.

Scott: Yeah. Yeah.

Annie: Don't. Don't do that.

Scott: I'm fine. I'm fine.

Annie: You're thinking about Palmer, about how you took his invention.

Scott: What's done is done, right? There's no going back now.

Annie: Well, why would you go back? Palmer is gone, and Chandler owns Cortlandt now. I mean, what was his is yours, Scott.

Scott: Absolutely. Even if I did steal it.

Annie: Listen to me. You are the future of this company now, and we're getting married. You have to stay focused on that. That's the only way that we're gonna be able to move forward and start a life together, ok?

Scott: I know, and I want to do that.

Annie: Well, then why don't we start doing that now?

Krystal: Hey. Hey, I just got a call from the sitter, and A.J. is having a blast teaching Jenny and Kathy all the tricks that he learned at swim lessons.

Marissa: Ha ha! Aw. Thanks for letting him go along.

Krystal: Oh, please, anytime.

Marissa: Well, I'm glad you said that. I was wondering if you could look after A.J. for a few days. J.R. wants to spend the weekend up at Palmer's cottage, just the two of us.

Krystal: He does, huh?

Marissa: What?

Krystal: Nothing.

Marissa: Ohh. Ok, well, you obviously don't approve.

Krystal: Well, I don't have a vote.

Marissa: If you're worried about Annie, she and Scott are planning their elopement.

Krystal: Well, that's good news.

Marissa: Yeah, it is, and I have more. When I get back after the weekend, I'm gonna start a new job working for Caleb Cooney.

Krystal: A job?

Marissa: Yeah, as a legal assistant. Is there a problem?

Krystal: Yeah, well, I knew Caleb wanted to get back at J.R., but I did not think he was gonna stoop so low as to use you to do it. He's not gonna get away with it.

Marissa: What? Why did you just assume that it's about J.R.? Maybe Caleb sees me for more than just being J.R. Chandler's wife and A.J.'s mother, you know? That I have a brain and I want to use it.

Krystal: I didn't mean that --

Marissa: I want a career. I need it, ok? And working for Caleb will allow me flexible hours. I'll be able to look after A.J., and when we have a baby --

Krystal: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on a minute. You're pregnant?

Marissa: No, I'm not. No. J.R. and I are -- we're just talking about it.

Krystal: Talking?

Marissa: Mm-hmm.

Krystal: When did you decide it? You didn't. J.R. wants this. He's pressuring you.

Marissa: No, I didn't say that.

Krystal: Marissa, don't do it, ok? You'll be making a huge mistake.

[J.R. thinks of making love to Annie at the beach cottage and starts kicking things around]

J.R.'s voice: What are you doing here?

Annie: How would you like to own Cortlandt Electronics?

J.R.: I just found something that will blow Scott right out of Chandler Enterprises.

Tad: You lost your key. That's fine. I know that Krystal keeps a spare.

Damon: That's ok. It can wait. I know how to break in, anyway, so --

Tad: [Chuckles] Yeah, I'm sure. Is it ok -- if I tell you how happy I am that you're back?

Damon: Colby and I decided to hold off on the road trip for a while.

Tad: Because of Liza? She told me that she managed to track you down.

Damon: Well, she told me that you were, like, really worried about me and stuff. I'm sorry to put you through that.

Tad: Don't, all right? Don't even start. None of it was your fault.

Damon: Well, I could have handled the whole Liza mess better, I guess, like maybe told you what happened when it happened.

Tad: I'm not gonna lie. I mean, that would have been nice. But the fact is, if I hadn't been killing myself and you trying to be the perfect dad, I would have seen what was going on all the time. I'm sorry.

Damon: Well, no one's perfect, you know, but when it comes to being a dad, you don't suck.

[Colby gasps]

Liza: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you.

Colby: What are you doing here? What, are you snooping through my things now?

Liza: I was just afraid you weren't gonna come back, and -- I guess I just wanted to be closer to you.

Colby: Well, just because I did does not mean I want anything to do with you.

Liza: Something brought you back.

Colby: Damon. And the only reason we came back was for Tad.

Liza: That's good. That's really good.

Colby: Do not act like you care. If you did, you wouldn't have switched Damon's medication. Yeah, he told me all about it!

Liza: I know. Colby, please. It was a horrible mistake, and I will never forgive myself for it. I would do anything to make it up to you.

Colby: Yep. Yep, there is one thing that you can do.

Liza: Ok. You just name it.

Colby: Leave Pine Valley and never come back.

Natalia: Are you feeling all right? Are you in any pain?

Angie: No. It's just my eyesight.

Frankie: You said the antifungals were helping.

Angie: They were, but unless I want to put our baby at risk, I can't stay on them.

Frankie: So does this mean that --

Angie: Chances are I'll go completely blind.

Frankie: Mom.

Angie: It's ok. I'm ok.

Natalia: But if the medicine works, if this is a matter of losing your sight forever, would you consider terminating?

Angie: I'm not gonna get rid of this baby, Natalia. Your father doesn't agree with my decision, either.

Jesse: How could I possibly agree with that?

Angie: You could be happy, the way you were when you first thought that this was about the pregnancy.

Jesse: Happy to watch my wife lose her eyesight?

Frankie: There has to be an alternative treatment, studies. I'll start researching right now.

Angie: We've been all over the treatment options with my specialist, and right now, there's nothing out there.

Frankie: When do you come off your meds?

Angie: I stopped taking them as soon as I found out I was pregnant.

Jesse: And her vision has already gotten worse.

Frankie: We're gonna get through this, together -- all of us.

Marissa: Please tell me that you didn't just order me not to have a child.

Krystal: I know I can't protect you forever, and I want to support your decisions, but in this case, God help me, I cannot!

Marissa: You know what? I just came to see if you could look after A.J.

Krystal: I know you don't want to hear this, and I don't even want to say it.

Marissa: Ok, then don't.

Krystal: I have to. I have seen J.R. with Annie.

Marissa: I'm leaving.

Krystal: No, listen to me. There is something there still between them.

Marissa: I am not doing this.

Krystal: You must have seen it yourself. You live under the same roof.

Marissa: Yes, I've seen it, ok? But it's over. What happened is over.

Krystal: You've got to face it. You two still have big problems, and you are not gonna solve them by having a baby.

Marissa: You don't have a say in my life, ok? And you definitely don't get to weigh in on my marriage, especially because you weren't supportive from the beginning. And I know why, because I took Babe's husband.

Krystal: This is not about Babe. This is about you. You are my daughter, too. I want you to be happy. I want to help you.

Marissa: I don't need your help.

Krystal: Please, Marissa, don't shut me out.

Marissa: What, like you did, the first minute that could, selling me to the highest bidder?

Krystal: All right, look. I know you're angry about that. Ok. But don't let that anger make you do something that's only gonna end up hurting yourself. You did that already the first time you and J.R. got together.

Marissa: You didn't know anything about me then.

Krystal: I knew that you had just lost your adoptive parents, right? And then you found out that I gave you up. You needed someone to hold onto. You needed someone to trust, and so did J.R. So the two of you came together. And then, before you knew it, you were vowing to love each other for the rest of your lives. It was just too fast. But you didn't know him, and he didn't know you, and when you don't know the person that you're married to --

Marissa: Just stop!

[Cell phone rings]

Marissa: Yes?

J.R.: Whatever happened to hello? I hope you're on your way.

Marissa: I can't do this, J.R.

J.R.: Do what? Aren't you coming?

Marissa: I have to go. No.

J.R.: Damn it. [Reads Palmer's papers] Nanotech. It was Palmer's.

Scott: Hi. Oh. [Kissing Annie]

[Cell phone rings]

Annie: Ohh. Do you have to get that?

Scott: Ahh, I don't know. I don't know. No. It's the office. It can wait.

Annie: Or I can wait. You are the CEO.

Scott: Co-CEO.

Annie: Well, exactly. I don't want J.R. to get an edge on you.

Scott: You're more important.

Annie: I'm not going anywhere.

Scott: You'd better not. Hello. Scott Chandler. No, it's fine. Talk to me.

[Cell phone rings]

Annie: Ohh. Why are you calling me?

J.R.: I thought you'd like to know, I just found something that will blow Scott right out of Chandler Enterprises.

Jesse: My beautiful wife, love of my life -- always has been, always will be -- you've always had this incredible way of, I don't know, looking at all the good despite all the bad. It's just not right for you to have to sacrifice --

Angie: Jesse, I will still see, just not with my eyes. I will see with my hands and my ears and my heart, and I will see through you and our baby. And my blindness won't be a sacrifice. It will be a blessing.

Liza: Colby, I know that this is gonna take a long time, but I'm gonna make this right between us again.

Colby: Why waste your time? It's not gonna happen.

Liza: I know you don't want to hear this right now, but sooner or later, you are gonna realize that family matters. Family. You need your mom.

Colby: Damon is the only family that I need. You know your way out.

[Liza cries]

Annie: What is this about, J.R.?

J.R.: Is Scott with you?

Annie: Yes. Tell me what's going on.

J.R.: First of all, I want to make sure what I'm holding is legit before I make a move.

Annie: Legit? What are you talking about?

J.R.: You know, maybe you don't care. On second thought, I probably shouldn't have called.

Annie: [Sighs] Where are you?

J.R.: I'm at the cottage.

Annie: Don't do anything until I get there.

Scott: What are you doing? I thought you wanted to --

Annie: I did. I do. But, um, something's come up that I have to take care of.

Scott: What?

Annie: I can't tell you right now. Just trust me, ok? It's for our future.

Angie: Well, that went better than I expected. Frankie's a good boy. A good man.

Jesse: It's because he agrees with you.

Angie: You're a good man, too.

Jesse: I'll get the dishes.

Angie: No, I'll get them.

Jesse: Is it your sight? Here, let me --

Angie: No, Jesse. Let me do it.

Jesse: Can I get you anything?

Angie: I'm good.

[Jesse sighs and shakes his head as Angie lowers herself to a chair]

Tad: Ta-da.

Damon: You didn't have to do that.

Tad: Yes, I do. It's for you. It's for pleasure. After the party went south, I stuck it in the freezer, and I'm glad you came back, because if you hadn't, we would be looking at major freezer burn, and that's, like, 7 bucks I'd never see again. Anyway, Colby, why don't you do the honors?

Colby: Sure.

Tad: And -- I got something else. I've been hanging on for you, waiting to give it to you.

Damon: You didn't have to do anything.

Tad: Yeah, yeah, I did, I did. I just wanted you -- I wanted you to have this.

Damon: What?

Tad: Don't stand there. Open it.

Damon: Ok, ok. Rocky!

Tad: Yep.

Damon: Oh, ho! It's all 6!

Tad: Yep.

Damon: Italian Stallion.

Tad: I thought if you were up for it, we could have a marathon and grow old together watching them.

Damon: That sounds cool -- Dad.

Liza: Hey.

Krystal: Hey. You don't look much better than you did when I left you.

Liza: Getting kicked to the curb by your daughter, that will do it to you.

Krystal: You talked to Colby?

Liza: If you want to call that talking. She really doesn't want to have anything more to do with me.

Krystal: I feel your pain. Just -- [Hands Liza a beer]

Liza: Thanks.

Marissa: Where's J.R.?

Scott: No clue. Why? What's wrong?

Marissa: Krystal was just going off on me about what a disaster zone my marriage is. But what really hurts -- is most of what she said is true.

Annie: Tell me what you found that's gonna blow my fiancÚ out of the company.

J.R.: Maybe you should sit down.

Annie: Tell me, J.R.

J.R.: Do you know the guy you're about to marry -- steals from dead people?
