Tad: Thanks for coming over.

Jesse: Not a problem. What's up?

Tad: It's Damon. He's gone, and he took the car.

Jesse: You two at it again?

Tad: I need you to help me find him.

Jesse: Sure. But you do know this is your life now, right? Wondering where he is, what he's up to, what's he gonna do wrong next?

Tad: I know my son has problems, ok? Nobody knows it better than I do, but you have to remember, I was just bad as he is at that age. I may not know what he's thinking, but I sure as hell know what he's feeling.

Jesse: Look. When I was that age, I screwed up a lot, too, but there comes a time when you just got to man up, Tad.

Tad: Right. I know that. And we did because we got the chance, because we knew we had family we could fall back on. Now, he's got that same chance. He just doesn't trust it yet. But he's going to. I'm gonna make sure of it.

Damon: Ohh. What should we do now?

Colby: Mmm -- sleep.

Damon: Sleep? In the city that never sleeps?

Colby: Well, we didn't get in till after midnight.

Damon: Well, wasn't that the perfect time to go out?

Colby: Yeah, it was great, but now I'm tired, and I don't want my dad to think I've been partying all night. Ugh. Wait until he hears Scott is now engaged to Annie, but Annie still has the hots for J.R. It's insane.

Damon: It's not your problem.

Colby: Damon, it's my family. And I'm hoping my dad will come back, and he'll fix things.

Damon: Or he could not.

Colby: And I want you guys to get to know one another. You might really like him if you'd just give him a chance.

Damon: Yeah, your dad's about as crazy for me as your mom is.

Colby: Well, once he sees the guy that I see -- charming, wonderful, great --

Damon: Oh, yeah, that's all gonna happen in one little visit?

Colby: Maybe not. But -- I just really miss him. And everything is so messed up. I need my dad now more than ever.

David: Liza.

Liza: Are you alone?

David: Unfortunately, yeah. But I have to get to the hospital.

Liza: This won't take long.

David: What do you want?

Liza: I need more drugs.

Greenlee: How is he? How's Ryan?

Frankie: Have you been here all night?

Greenlee: I fell asleep in the waiting room. How is he?

Angie: It's as good as we could hope.

Greenlee: Thank God. Really?

Angie: Yeah, his vascular surgeon went with a minimally invasive procedure -- endovascular coiling. So Ryan is out of O.R., and he's stable.

Greenlee: But it was definitely an aneurysm?

Frankie: There probably was a weakness in the blood vessel still left over from the shooting.

Angie: Yeah, but the blood has stopped. Now he's in and out of consciousness, but that's to be expected. Full recovery is gonna take a while, but so far no indication of numbness or paralysis.

Greenlee: Can I see him?

Frankie: Maybe you should hold off.

Angie: No, it's ok. You can see him for a while. Just don't stay very long, ok?

[Heart monitor beeping]

Madison: Hey there. Hey.

Ryan: Ohh.

Madison: Remember me?

Ryan: Madison?

Madison: Gold star.

Ryan: What happened?

Madison: You had an aneurysm, and you fell and cut your head. They had to operate, but you'll be fine.

Ryan: You -- you've been here?

Madison: Since you came out of surgery. It seemed like you were having a lot of dreams. You've been talking in your sleep.

Ryan: Oh, yeah? What did I say?

Madison: I'm not sure, but I think you mentioned Greenlee.

Jesse: I got people tracking your car. We're just gonna have to sit and wait it out.

Tad: Well, I appreciate your help with this.

Jesse: So what's the story? Why did Damon dash this time?

Tad: Because Liza caught him with his hands in the till at Krystal's. I don't know. None of this makes any sense. I could have sworn that we were making progress, you know? Damon agreed to the adoption. He was taking his meds. He was making the effort. He was almost happy, and now all of a sudden, this. I don't get it.

Jesse: Well, it's not like he hasn't stolen before. There's more.

Tad: Damon kissed Liza.

Jesse: What did you just say?

Tad: He kissed Liza. Don't look at me like that. I just heard about it myself.

Jesse: Who told you? Liza? Damon?

Tad: Liza.

Jesse: Well, we both know how Liza feels about this boy.

Tad: What's your point? Yeah, sure, I know about it, but do you actually think she would lie about something like that?

Jesse: Wow. Tad, you're just gonna have to get both sides of this story. This --

Tad: I intend to, if I can ever find him.

Damon: You brought your whole closet, I see.

Colby: Mm-hmm. I want to look perfect.

Damon: Well, you do, you know? You do.

Colby: Oh. This, I'm wearing for sure.

Damon: Did your dad give that to you?

Colby: Mm-hmm. He bought it for me when I was about a year old. He said he was gonna put a charm on it every year, but he just got so carried away that every time he'd pass a jewelry store, he'd buy me another charm. He said it was because he loved me so much he just couldn't resist.

Damon: Well, you're pretty irresistible. Here, stick it here.

Colby: After my mom took me away, I used to put it underneath my pillow, hoping that one day I'd wake up and my dad would find me. He would have slipped a charm on my bracelet when I was sleeping.

[Knock on door]

Colby: It's my dad, I think. My hair is not done. I haven't even gotten changed.

Damon: Hey, hey, you look great.

Colby: Really?

Damon: Yeah. Go get him.

Colby: Ok.

Chauffeur: Colby Chandler?

Colby: Yes?

Chauffeur: Mr. Chandler won't be coming to New York.

Colby: But he said he was coming to New York. He was coming to see me here.

Chauffeur: Mr. Chandler wanted me to let you know he'll call and explain everything.

Colby: Thank you. He's not coming.

Damon: I'm sure he has a good reason.

Colby: He promised he would come.

[Cell phone rings]

Colby: Hello? Dad? Where are you? Why aren't you here? I should have known.

Damon: What? What'd he say? Why isn't he coming?

Colby: I don't know. I hung up on him.

Damon: Hey, I'm sure he had a legit reason for not showing.

Colby: He knew how much this meant to me. He just didn't care.

David: Here you go -- full month's supply.

Liza: Thank you.

David: So how long do you plan on feeding Tad's kid placebos?

Liza: Until Colby dumps him. You still good with this arrangement?

David: Yeah. Why not? I give you sugar pills. In return, I get free legal counsel whenever I need it.

Liza: You don't plan on getting in any sort of trouble soon, do you?

David: You know what's really funny? A few short weeks ago, you told me that you were done representing me, because being linked to me made you feel like a pariah.

Liza: Mmm-hmm.

David: And yet here you are, on retainer, being paid in sugar pills.

Liza: Yeah.

David: You must really be desperate to get rid of this Damon kid.

Liza: I just want him away from my daughter.

David: Mmm. All this animosity towards Damon must be putting a crimp on your relationship with Tad.

Liza: How's your relationship? I mean, where is Greenlee?

David: I don't keep my wife on a leash.

Liza: Oh.

David: Now, if we're done here, I really have to check on a patient.

Liza: You're not practicing medicine, though?

David: Not my patient. Ryan Lavery was admitted yesterday.

Liza: Wow. What did you to him?

David: Why does everyone think I did something to him?

Liza: Really? You're asking me that?

David: He collapsed, all right? An aneurysm.

Liza: Oh. God, is he all right?

David: It's been repaired. He seems to be doing ok.

Liza: How is Greenlee taking it?

David: She's fine.

Liza: Yeah, right. So you were there when he collapsed. Does she blame you for it?

Angie: Hi. Did you see Ryan already?

Greenlee: Uh, Madison was with him. I'll visit later.

Angie: Well, you know what? I'm gonna go and check on him just to make sure he's comfortable.

Greenlee: Hey, with something like this, will Ryan need special treatment when he leaves the hospital?

Frankie: I'm sure Madison will give him all the special treatment he needs.

Angie: Hi. Feeling any better?

Madison: You need me to leave?

Angie: Uh, no, no. I'm here as a friend. I'm not here as a doctor. But I do want you to know that you will be getting neuro checks every half-hour.

Madison: Why don't I go check on Emma and give her the daddy update? I'll shower, change, and come back, ok?

Ryan: Give her a kiss for me.

Madison: Twice.

Ryan: Ok. Thanks.

Angie: You know, you gave me quite a scare. You gave us all a scare. But this indicates that your pressure's normal and there's no bleeding.

Ryan: Mmm. I'm still trying to figure out how I got here.

Angie: Greenlee brought you in with David.

Ryan: David. I was with David, in the park, arguing, and -- and everything just went black.

Angie: Ryan, it's really lucky for you that Greenlee passed by when she did. She called the ambulance. She was right by your side when you got here.

Jesse: So, your car was tracked from Philly to the Lincoln Tunnel.

Tad: So New York?

Jesse: Yeah.

Liza: Ok. Anybody care to fill me in here?

Tad: Damon borrowed the car.

Liza: Uh-huh. Without asking, I'm assuming.

Tad: You seen Colby lately?

Liza: God, they're probably together, aren't they?

[Cell phone rings]

Liza: Wait. Wait. Hello? Adam, listen. I can't talk to you right now. I'm in the middle of something. You were? She did? Ok. Yeah. Thank you very much for filling me in. So, she was supposed to meet Adam in New York, but he couldn't make it, and when he called to explain, she hung up on him, and now she won't answer the phone.

Tad: Ok. Let's go get them.

Colby: I should have known this was gonna happen. It's not exactly the first time he's let me down.

Damon: Hey, your dad would kill for you. I'm sure something really big came up. You know you want to open it. Open it. Come on.

Colby: "I promise that I'll see you soon. Love, Dad."

Damon: Look at that. You got another charm.

Colby: I don't want a charm. I want my dad.

Damon: Hey, I know it's not the same, but you have me, and I'm not going anywhere. Look. I know that I've let you down before, and I've made you think that I couldn't be counted on, but that's not gonna happen anymore, not now.

Colby: I'm not pushing you.

Damon: Maybe I needed a push. You believed in me when nobody else did every time I got in trouble, and maybe that's why it was hard for me to buy it at first. But you, like, have this enormous heart, and you're not afraid to just throw it out there. It scares me sometimes. I think you're amazing. I want to be with you.

Colby: You're not saying this because you feel sorry for me?

Damon: No, no. No, I'm saying this -- I'm saying this because I love you.

Colby: You love me?

Damon: Yeah.

Colby: You're not saying this to make me feel better?

Damon: I've been wanting to say this for a while now. I just didn't really know how. Maybe it's the wrong time, I don't know.

Colby: No, no, no. It's perfect. I love you, too.

Jesse: So Ryan's stable? Does he remember anything?

Angie: He was with David, arguing. But, Jesse, it was an aneurysm. Now, this isn't something that you can pin on David.

Jesse: I still want to talk to Ryan.

Angie: What are you talking about? You're on suspension. You can't officially investigate.

Jesse: Angela, anything we can find to pin on this man is --

Angie: Oh, would you please just let it go?

Jesse: Is there something I need to know you're not telling me about Hayward?

Angie: I worked on Ryan when he was brought in, and David was here. I froze, and David saw it. Now, he would love nothing better than to point out that I endangered a patient, so that he could use it as grounds to fire me.

Jesse: You froze? You don't free -- you never freeze, and if you did, it's because Hayward was stressing you, trying to break you, baby.

Angie: Look, Jesse. It's over. We just need to move on.

Jesse: Move on. After what this man has done to our family? To our friends? He needs to be stopped.

Angie: Well, it's not in your hands.

Jesse: The hell it ain't. I might not be chief of police, but I sure as hell can put an end to this.

Angie: You know what? Jesse, would you just stop it, ok? Because you're starting to scare me. All right, sweetie, listen. I have to get back to work. Please, just leave this alone, ok? Please.

Greenlee: It's good to see you.

Ryan: Hmm. You, too.

Greenlee: Breathing, I mean -- alive, smiling, even.

Ryan: I guess I gave everybody quite a scare.

Greenlee: When I saw you on the ground, you know, I thought you were -- but you're gonna be fine, right? Everything's gonna be fine.

Ryan: Angie said that you're the one who called the ambulance, that I'm alive because of you.

[Damon and Colby make love]

Singer: Ooh as I look into your eyes you leave me mesmerized and it's you that keeps my head above the clouds and we can live we can live and we can love I can't live my life without you, baby now is the time now's the time to fly away come fly away to cherish life to cherish life fly away with me fly away

Damon: You ok?

Colby: I'm better than ok. I am perfect. How are you?

Damon: I'm all over the place, if you haven't noticed. Dealing with ADHD and getting adopted and getting myself on track, like -- it's craziness. It's like I'm living someone else's life. Sometimes it's like nothing seems real. Except this, this right here, this?

Colby: Mm-hmm.

Damon: That. And that. It's like as real as it gets. Did someone just --

Colby: Do you think it could be my dad?

Damon: I don't know. Maybe the driver brought another present for you. You want to, like, put a shirt on, so you don't give him a show?

[Colby laughs as Damon puts on his pants]

Damon: Maybe it's room service. Did you order any? I could use something. What are you doing here?

Tad: I'm guessing I don't have to ask you the same question.

Angie: [Speaking into her recorder] My vision went out at the worst possible time yesterday -- with a patient, a friend, and with David breathing down my neck. Obviously, this can't continue. I need proof, one way or another, that these experimental meds are having some effect. Although the timing was extremely unfortunate, the duration of the vision loss was considerably less than my previous one. That, combined with the lower frequency, seems to indicate the meds are working. Feeling some side effect -- extreme exhaustion -- but -- also some hope.

Ryan: Ooh. Sorry, I guess I'm just a little bit tired. Heh heh!

Greenlee: Well, you did just have major brain surgery, so I'll let it slide.

Ryan: Mmm. I had this dream. It was so real.

Greenlee: What was it about?

Ryan: It was about you. You had just come back. Everyone thought you were dead. And -- no David. And you and me. You chose -- mmm.

Greenlee: What happened, Ryan? What did I choose?

David: How's the patient? Feeling better?

Greenlee: Ryan? Ryan! Help! We need some help in here! Ryan. Do something! Ryan? Help him. Do something.

David: Ok, both of you, get out.

Greenlee: What were you thinking? Stay away from him!

Liza: I'd like to talk my daughter alone.

Damon: Don't come down on her.

Liza: You get the hell out of here.

Colby: Do not talk to him like that.

Tad: Damon, let's go.

Damon: You ok?

Colby: Following me to New York? Busting us? You happy?

Liza: No, definitely not happy. Your father called me. He was worried.

Colby: I'm so sure he's worried. He's having so much fun doing whatever he is doing. You know, Mom, he stood me up!

Liza: Bad weather grounded his plane.

Colby: Really?

Liza: Yeah, really.

Colby: I should have never hung up on him.

Liza: So you're feeling abandoned, you're feeling rejected, Damon's here, and -- I understand. You just don't have to settle for him.

Colby: I am not settling. I love him, and he loves me. Why can't you accept that? Why can't you accept him?

Damon: Ooh, Liza is such a maniac when it comes to Colby. She thinks I'm gonna rip her heart out of her chest and eat it! When is she gonna get it through her head that we are together? I know you're pissed at me, too. I'm sorry I took the car.

Tad: I don't care about the car. I could care less about the car. But I'll be damned if I can figure you out.

Damon: What? I'm your son. I'm the younger, better-looking version of you. What's to figure?

Tad: You really think that now is a good time to test me? You've got the right. God knows I tested my parents. I tortured them, and I frustrated them, but I got to hand it to you. You have special skills. Every single time I think I've made some kind of a connection with you, you do something stupid. Every single time I think I understand you, that I know you, you throw it in my face.

Damon: I didn't force myself on Colby. She --

Tad: I'm not talking about Colby. I'm talking about her mother. How the hell could you kiss Liza?

Frankie: So the monitors react to any changes in your vitals. Your blood pressure spiked a bit, but that's all. Everything's gonna be all right.

Ryan: Ok. Too bad it scared Greenlee away.

David: You act as if I went in there to attack Ryan.

Greenlee: You upset him.

David: Not intentionally.

Greenlee: You know what? Obviously, seeing your face is enough, and stress is the last thing that Ryan needs right now, so please just stay away.

David: Do you still think it's my fault that Ryan is in there? A weak blood vessel burst in his head. It could have happened to anyone.

Greenlee: You know what? I get that. But last night, I kept going over it in my head. When I found the two of you in the park, he was lying there, unconscious, bleeding. And you weren't doing anything to help him. You were just staring at him, as if you'd hope he'd die.

David: I was working on him while you called the EMTs, remember?

Greenlee: But what if I didn't show up? What if it was just the two of you?

David: What are you implying, Greenlee? I'm a doctor, not a killer.

Greenlee: Really? Because you almost killed Erica when you sabotaged her plane.

David: You're upset. You're tired. I know you didn't mean what you just said. I'm heading home. I'll see you there.

Ryan: Wow! I got balloons.

Madison: Your daughter insisted. I also have a very special delivery from Miss Emma. [Kisses Ryan on the cheek as Greenlee watches]

Ryan: Oh, man, look at this. It's beautiful.

Madison: A little something from the messenger, too.

Ryan: Mmm. Now I'm feeling better.

Madison: Good. Is that a cure?

Ryan: Yeah. I hope I don't spike my blood pressure.

Tad: Answer my question. Why'd you kiss Liza?

Damon: I don't know. It was just -- it just happened.

Tad: Under the circumstances, I think you should try to do better than that.

Damon: Look. It was just, like, in the moment. I was really happy because of the adoption, and she hugged me, and we just kissed. It's not like it meant anything.

Liza: I know that you don't want to hear this, but this is not going to last. It can't.

Colby: You don't know that.

Liza: I do know that, because I know Damon.

Tad: All right, before we get into this, I'm gonna say something, and I want you to hear it, ok? I want you to hear this. Way back when, when you arrived in town, and you started causing more trouble than any single person is worth, I saw something in you, right? I saw something that nobody else could, something that made it impossible for me to give up on you. And then when I found out that Hillary and I had a child, that bond made sense. But I want you to know something. Long before I couldn't afford to tell you were the truth, that you were my boy, I had already taken a big step. I didn't adopt you to make you my son. I adopted you because you are, in every way, and I love you.

[Damon sniffs]

Tad: I love you, no matter what. Deal with it.

Liza: Colby, I have seen a Damon that you have not seen.

Colby: Because that Damon only exists in your head -- a monster who is trying to steal away your daughter!

Liza: Ok, honey, you are going to get hurt.

Colby: Ok, so I'm gonna get hurt, but, Mom, I will deal with it. All I know is I don't want to end up like you: Desperate not to be alone.

Tad: Ok. Now, these past few months, I've been going on nothing but faith. No matter what you did, I always told everybody -- I told myself that it was ok to be patient, because eventually you would feel the love, you'd start to trust it, and you would start to give back. It didn't matter that it was two steps forward and one step back. You were worth the fight. But I never in my wildest dreams thought that you were capable of doing something like this, that you could stand there and be cruel enough to tell me that you kissed Liza, and it didn't mean anything, that you have so little regard for me that you could do something like that and try to brush it off, to tell me that it means nothing.

Damon: It doesn't.

Tad: Damon, it sure as hell means something to me.

Jesse: So what do you know about your mother freezing up in the E.R. when she was working on Ryan?

Frankie: I don't believe it.

Jesse: She told me herself, Frankie.

Frankie: Well, what happened?

Jesse: Apparently Hayward was in the room, stressing her out, and she said that Jake came in to take over, do what needed to be done for Ryan. She said Hayward saw it all, and she's afraid he might use it against her.

Frankie: Yeah, well, I'd like to use something against his head, like my fist.

Jesse: I hear you. It kills me that he can shake up her confidence like this.

Frankie: Well, you know, it's not like Mom to let Hayward get to her, especially if it puts a patient at risk.

Jesse: Do me a favor. Keep your eyes open. If anything like this happens again, you let me know.

Frankie: Absolutely.

Jesse: Appreciate it, son.

Frankie: Yeah.

Ryan: She's the best.

Madison: And she loves her daddy.

Ryan: Hmm. You explained everything to her, right?

Madison: Yeah, yeah. You know. She's worried about you, but I told her you were about ready to run laps around the place and you'd be home before she knew it.

Ryan: Well, thank you for taking care of her.

Madison: She's already planning your welcome-home party.

Ryan: Heh heh!

Madison: So, um, I saw Greenlee earlier. Is she still around?

Ryan: She left with David. Madison, you have nothing to --

Madison: No, I know. I just don't want her upsetting you.

Ryan: I'm good -- now.

Greenlee: I'm sorry about earlier. I lost my temper. I shouldn't have.

David: You were upset, exhausted. It's all right.

Greenlee: No, it's not. You're not to blame for everything that's happened with Ryan. I am.

Liza: Colby, I don't expect you to become another version of me. You're perfect the way you are. You're smart, and you're beautiful, and you're capable. You have the potential to do anything that you want to do.

Colby: And you think I'm gonna give that all up for Damon.

Liza: Yes, it's possible.

Colby: Then you don't know me at all.

Damon: Kissing Liza was out of line, I know that, but I did it, because I was angry.

Tad: At me?

Damon: No, at her. Man, she's all over me. She's always trying to prove that I'm not good enough for her daughter. I just wanted to shake her up, scare her, make her do something that would back her off.

Tad: Oh, well, when you put it like that, it makes perfect sense to kiss her.

Damon: Liza's out to get me.

Tad: She's not out to get you. How many times do I have to tell you? She's simply a mother trying to protect her daughter. She doesn't live to destroy you.

Damon: She came on to me.

Tad: Perfect. How could you possibly say something like that?

Damon: Because it's true.

Tad: You expect me to believe that Liza's the one that came on to you?

Damon: She was gonna do a lot worse than that. She wanted to make me look so bad that Colby would never want anything to do with me again.

Tad: Unbelievable. We're done.

Damon: Hey. [Shows Tad the pics of Liza undressing]

Colby: I'm out of here. I'm gonna go call my dad.

Liza: Colby, wait. What?

Tad: What the hell is this?

Ryan: Will you thank Emma for me? For the card and the balloons, and just tell her that I'll call her later, I'll call her soon.

Madison: I will. She is amazing. She's so strong.

Ryan: Mmm.

Madison: You know, when you get discharged, if you need to take it easy, if you need help with Emma, I'm there for both of you, if that's ok with you.

Ryan: Nah, you don't have to.

Madison: Are you kidding? I would love it. I mean, I'm on your speed dial. I think it comes with a little bit of responsibility.

David: Why would you blame yourself for what happened with Ryan?

Greenlee: It started long before yesterday. You know, ever since you and I came back to Pine Valley, we've been in trouble -- real trouble, big trouble, the kind of trouble that keeps most people up at night.

David: Can't argue with you there.

Greenlee: And we're always fighting back, David, the two of us against the world.

David: I've been very happy to have you on my side, Greenlee.

Greenlee: I was fine with it when we first came back, because I was so angry that the world had gone on without me. I married you to piss people off, and it worked, but it's been really destructive, for both of us.

David: Where are you going with this?

Greenlee: I need time to think about everything that's happened. Us. We need time apart.
