Tad: No. The cake was supposed to be here an hour ago.
Jake: Cake. The cake? You can't have a party without a cake.
Tad: Don't help. Martin. Martin. What do you mean, how's it spelled? Just exactly like it sounds: P-I-S-S-E-D.
Jake: I hate being the first guest at a party.
Amanda: Well, at least now we have time to run out and get Damon something better.
Jake: I got him something better. Savings bond: Best gift ever.
Amanda: For a baby.
Jake: Well, sometimes he acts like a baby. I bet the gifts go right here.
Amanda: Jake, don't do it.
Jake: What? What? It's a good gift.
Amanda: Oh -- now, you see? That's a gift.
Jake: That's a gift? I'll bet mine's a lot more useful that whatever that is.
Amanda: What did you get, Krystal?
Krystal: Oh, I got him this really, really cool gaming system.
Krystal: What's this? Oh, gosh. Junk mail.
Amanda: No, it's Jake's gift.
Jake: That's my gift. What's wrong with you people?
Tad: Ohh, honey, I had to place an emergency cake order with Raymond. I hope you don't mind.
Krystal: Well, you know what? I'm just saying if you'd ordered the cake from me in the first place instead of some fancy-schmancy bakery, we wouldn't have to be leaving in the middle of the party to get the cake!
Tad: Ok, it's fine. Listen, Damon and I will pick it up. It'll be a bonding experience.
Jake: Why isn't he here? Who's he out bonding with?
[Music plays at Krystal's]
Singer: Blind or walking naked don't know -- make up what we --
Liza: Stealing from Krystal -- that's gonna make your dad real proud.
J.R.: Well, that's not the answer that we're looking for.
Scott: We're out of options. Caleb's rejecting our offer. It's personal no matter how we spice it up.
J.R.: No, no, no, Cooney doesn't want Cortlandt, we do, so there has to be a way in.
Scott: Yeah, thanks for everything. Appreciate it.
J.R.: You giving up?
Scott: Deal's dead, J.R. There's nothing more we can do.
J.R.: I'm not quitting.
Scott: Look, we can't win this one, buddy, ok? You heard Jackson -- Caleb will sell to anybody but a Chandler.
J.R.: You see, that's why you're not gonna make it in the business world. You roll over too easily.
Scott: You screwed up with Uncle Adam. Bringing Cortlandt Electronics into the Chandler fold won't win him back.
J.R.: Man, this is so much bigger than my father.
Scott: Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. In the meantime, your wife needs you. Why don't you focus on her at least until the bar exam is over? Excuse me. I need to put the brakes on that press release.
Annie: Already taken care of. But you got that emergency call to go to the office before you could answer my question last night. So? Do you want to marry me?
J.R.: Hey. Sorry I was gone all night.
Marissa: Is it morning already?
J.R.: Yeah. How's it going?
Marissa: I know it all. It's in there somewhere. And then I get to the practice questions and -- what are you doing?
J.R.: You need to take a break.
Marissa: I can't. The bar is tomorrow.
J.R.: You said you know this stuff. A few minutes away from it should unclog the brain.
Marissa: You don't understand.
J.R.: I understand that you're tired. So am I. I spent the last 12 hours putting out a fire and trying to start another one under the Cortlandt deal.
Marissa: You are never satisfied with what you have, J.R. Why do you always want more?
Annie: I thought now that we have a moment alone, we could talk about getting married.
Scott: I just walked in the door.
Annie: I've been up all night thinking about it. I am sure, now more than ever, that we belong together. You get me, Scott, and you never judge me.
Scott: I do get you, Annie. But this time you really caught me off guard.
Annie: I know. I know. But I can't think of one good reason why we shouldn't take it to the next step. Making it official -- it's the right thing to do. You are an amazing man, Scott. You are kind and you are generous, and, oh, my God, you'd be such a great father to Emma.
Scott: We have a few problems.
Annie: Really? Because I can't think of any.
Scott: You're still married to my uncle.
Annie: I know, but we are going to be divorced soon.
Scott: There's something else.
Scott: Not "what," "who." J.R.
J.R.: You know how important this Cortlandt deal is to me. It's my mom's family. It's a way to hang on to that legacy.
Marissa: Is that really what this is about? Because I'm not so sure about your priorities these days.
Colby: Hey. You guys ok?
J.R.: Yeah. Yeah. We're just dandy.
Colby: Look, Marissa, if you ever need to take a break from your books, just give me a shout. Clearly, nobody works harder than you.
Marissa: Yeah, I just need to stay focused and not get distracted by other things.
J.R.: You don't have to worry about anything else.
Colby: Yeah. J.R. is determined to make our family solid again, and you are a part of that now. And I know he won't let us down.
J.R.: Hey, let's go get something to eat.
Colby: Oh, actually, no, I can't. Tad is throwing that party for Damon.
J.R.: The "welcome to the family" celebration. Right, right. Tell Tad I'm sorry that I can't make it. Give everyone else my best.
Colby: Oh, and good luck on the bar. I know you're gonna kill it.
J.R.: Let's get some fresh air, maybe go grab a bite to eat at the club.
Marissa: That is a fabulous idea. Maybe you can show me the room where you busted in to save Annie. Hmm.
Annie: J.R. is not an issue for us getting married.
Scott: Annie --
Annie: Living with him hasn't exactly been easy, no. I mean, you've seen the crap that he's thrown at me, but I've learned to deal with it.
Scott: Yeah, Emma heard you dealing with J.R. and Colby last night.
Annie: And there you were being sweet, calming her down. It might take time, but everyone will learn to figure it out.
Scott: And you popped the question after the fight.
Annie: Oh, one thing had nothing to do with the other.
Scott: Yeah? You weren't feeling insecure about your place in this house?
Annie: I'm feeling insecure about this conversation. I mean, don't you want us to be together?
Scott: Look, we are together. Ok? The state declaring it legal doesn't matter.
Annie: So you don't want me to be your wife?
Scott: It's just -- out of nowhere you popped the question, that's all.
Annie: I know. You're right. But now you've had some time to think about it.
Scott: Look, the moment that we met, it was instant. Even when we tried to deny it, we couldn't.
Annie: Right. So let's accept it now and run with it. You do love me, don't you?
Scott: Yes, of course, I do. But this, the way -- it feels like you're forcing it.
Annie: I just want to be with you, Scott, forever. Is that really such a horrible thing?
Scott: No. But we don't have to prove ourselves to anyone. I love you. Isn't that enough?
Scott: Chandler. No. No, no, no. Tell him to wait right there. Yeah, hang on. It's the office: Another crisis.
Annie: It's ok. I'll be all right.
Scott: No, I'm here.
Krystal: Do you want me to help you tie that bow?
Tad: No, no! No, no, no, no.
Tad: For the last time, I want Damon to know it's a gift from his old man -- all the way down to the wrapping. Sheesh. What the hell is this?
Krystal: That's Jake's gift.
Tad: They're not paying you enough at the hospital?
Amanda: It's a savings bond.
Tad: A savings bond?
Jake: It's not a bad gift.
Tad: Are you kidding? What, is he 3 months old?
Jake: Is this a gag to you or something? And I picked out something else, as well.
Tad: Uh-huh. Where is it?
Jake: It's not here at the moment.
Tad: And you just figured this out?
Jake: When I got here, I didn't remember that I forgot it, if that's what you're talking about. Look, he's not here. You want me to go home and get it? I'll get it right now.
Tad: No, no, no. By all means, stick around. I want to see the look on his face when you give it to him. He just pulled up. You're so cheap.
Jake: There's nothing wrong with this gift.
Tad: Where's Damon?
Colby: What, he's not here?
Tad: No. I thought he was with you.
Colby: No. No, I haven't seen him. Oh, and he's not picking up or answering any of my texts. Tad, he knows the party is today.
Tad: Huh. I guess he got caught up in something.
Liza: Petty larceny -- I think that's gonna look really good on your rap sheet.
Damon: It's an advance. I work here, remember?
Liza: Really? Because I didn't see you busing any tables.
Damon: What, you don't believe me? Ask Krystal?
Liza: That's actually a really good idea. I think I will. I'm gonna ask her what she thinks about your sticky fingers, too.
Damon: Hold on. Look, paychecks come in Friday. I just needed a little floater until then, all right? I was gonna pay it back right away.
Liza: Mm-hmm. And did you tell Krystal that?
Damon: I was going to, but she wasn't here to ask.
Liza: Oh, please. You know she's at home.
Damon: Why should I know that? She's always here for lunch.
Liza: Oh, gee, I don't know. A little thing called a party at Tad's.
Damon: Mmm. The adoption thing.
Liza: Yeah. Right. Only the biggest day in your life and Tad's, but, oops, you forgot.
Damon: It slipped my mind. I never said I was perfect.
Liza: No, you didn't.
Tad: He's gonna regret it when he realizes we ate his cake.
Colby: Well, Damon's been flaking out on me a lot lately.
Tad: Well, he's been preoccupied.
Colby: With what? Tad, everything is going his way. He's got you on his side, he's got me on his side, and he doesn't have the whole probation thing to worry about. I mean, he should be here ready to party.
Tad: Sweetheart, he's been -- he's been told he's a screw-up his entire life. Now he's getting unconditional love, you know? You, me, the family -- the whole bit. It's hard to deal with when you never had to before.
Colby: So, he's testing us?
Tad: Well, he's not here, but he will be.
Colby: You keep thinking that. I'm gonna go look for Damon.
J.R.: The guy's a thug. He thinks when you send a woman to handle a deal, that she better close it in the bedroom.
Marissa: There's no arguments. That's disgusting. But you could have been honest with me about her attack. I mean, you were the one who saved her, J.R. Why did you lie to me about it?
J.R.: You were studying for the bar. You happened to be really stressed. And me kicking down a door to rescue Annie wasn't gonna go over big with you.
Marissa: Yeah, well, neither does lying.
J.R.: Look, I really messed up our marriage when I slept with Annie. I know it's gonna take a long, long time for you to fully forgive me.
Marissa: So that just gives you a pass on all things Annie?
J.R.: No. No. Absolutely not. Annie just happens to be a sore spot with us right now, and the last thing I want to do is hurt you again.
Marissa: Except you keep doing it.
J.R.: Listen to me. If you were the one in that room, that guy wouldn't be breathing right now.
[Annie walks in to the Yacht Club]
Marissa: Huh. Looks like someone couldn't bear to be away from her savior.
Damon: Wait, let me guess. I'm unreliable. I can't be trusted. I'm gonna break Colby's heart. I'm gonna ruin her future. Stop me if I'm missing something.
Liza: No, actually, I think you're finally getting it.
Damon: Good. Well, I'm glad we're on the same page.
Liza: This is going back to its rightful owner, and you're gonna explain.
Damon: Are you gonna let me talk?
Liza: Actually, I'm gonna stand right next to you to make sure that you don't lie to her face.
Damon: Back off, all right? I wasn't stealing.
Liza: You know what? You can call it whatever you want, all these crafty names. The truth is you're a thief, all right? You steal Colby's heart, now you're stealing money.
Tad: So I guess you guys decided to have your own party, huh? Mind if I crash? Someone goes to the trouble of buying you a cake, streamers, balloons -- does it mean anything to you?
Damon: I know: The adoption party.
Tad: It started an hour ago, Damon. Come on.
Liza: Well, Damon had a sudden desire for some cash.
Tad: What, you stole from Krystal?
Damon: Why don't you ask Liza?
Tad: I'm asking you.
Damon: Look, no matter how good things get, I'm gonna find a way to screw them up. So I hope you don't mind being disappointed, because that's what I do best.
Tad: You sound like a broken record. I don't want to hear that, ok? What's with the attitude? I just want to make sure you have a nice day.
Damon: What you gonna do, Thaddeus? Unadopt me?
Tad: No. Never. I told you that, ok? I'm bending over backwards to make you feel like a part of this family.
Damon: You do all this stuff for me, and you hope that I'll just magically be a new guy overnight. Well, I'm sorry. I don't roll that way.
Tad: Damon, we're not done. Damon? What the hell was that?
Jake: All right, so now who's cool? The coolest uncle ever bringing a guitar as a gift to the party.
Amanda: Obviously a lot hipper than the lame uncle who brought a savings bond.
Jake: They're both great gifts. Oh, hello. I'd like to, if you don't mind?
Krystal: Yeah, you're gonna have to take that for the road, because your cell phone rang, and I think it was Angie. You know what that means.
Jake: Oh. Probably just wants me to take over a shift. You know, with the cuts -- Hayward and everything -- we don't have enough doctors to go around.
Amanda: You gonna call her back?
Jake: Hmm. Call her back? I'm spending quality time with my beautiful, gorgeous wife.
Amanda: Well, it's a pretty barren party -- no Damon.
Krystal: Or Tad.
Jake: Or cake.
Krystal: Or alcohol.
Marissa: I know that J.R. rescued you from that Tucker creep.
Annie: Um, it wasn't that big of a deal.
Marissa: Hey, I get it. Why freak out the wife with small details?
J.R.: It wasn't like that.
Marissa: So he attacked you?
Annie: Yes. I'm sorry I didn't say something.
Marissa: And what would have happened if J.R. wasn't there?
Annie: Tucker was, um, charming and receptive, and I didn't see it until it was too late. He was strong and determined, and he didn't listen when I told him to stop. So if J.R. hadn't shown up when he did, I -- hi. Did you get everything done at the office?
Scott: I did. I cleared my schedule for the rest of the day, so I can spend it with you.
Scott: Oh, and a little something to celebrate the day.
Annie: What's that?
Scott: Our conversation this morning, it got me thinking I should follow my heart. And having family around makes this all the more special.
Singer: I'm fallin' I'm fallin' in love with you I spend all of my time
Scott: [Down on one knee] Annie -- will you do me the great honor of being my wife?
[Marissa shakes her head]
Scott: You gonna keep me on this knee all day, or are you gonna throw your arms around me and say yes to my proposal?
Annie: Um, I'm sorry. I thought after this morning, you weren't interested in getting married.
Scott: So you're surprised?
Annie: Yeah. Very.
Scott: Good! Because I've been thinking about this for a while.
Annie: You have?
Scott: Yes. Call me a traditionalist, but I'm the one who should be proposing to you, not the other way around. Annie, your life has never been easy. You've always had to fight to get what you want. And along the way, people have doubted you and focused on your flaws. But from the moment I met you, I knew you were special. The fire, the fight -- when you want something, nothing stands in your way, and I love you for it. So in front of all these witnesses, I promise you a life full of surprises and excitement, if you'll just say one simple word: "Yes."
Annie: Yes. Yes.
Scott: Come here.
Annie: Well, the ring! Make it official!
Singer: You've opened up my eyes now I realize
Scott: We are officially engaged. Happy?
Annie: Beyond belief.
Scott: Annie and I are getting married.
J.R.: [Taps glass] Well, let's make a toast, then. To Annie and Scott. May you have all the happiness that you deserve.
Amanda: So what do you think about Damon?
Jake: He's a nice kid. He has ADHD. And he had parents that lied to him all of his life. I mean, that's -- if it wasn't for my brother, he'd probably be in a prison somewhere.
Amanda: Tad's done a lot for Damon. He deserves to be treated better than this.
Jake: He'll show up. Everybody loves presents.
Amanda: Is Liza coming?
Jake: Why wouldn't she?
Amanda: She and Damon hate each other.
Jake: Hmm. Well, I'm sure they'll work through it.
Amanda: How do you work through hate? I mean, you could do a better job of trying to hide it, but --
Jake: Honey, you got all kids of synapses firing off in your head. What to share something with me? Something you want to say?
Amanda: No, it's nothing. Really, it -- look -- ok, listen. I've been keeping something from you, and it's really driving me crazy.
Jake: Hmm. Well, if it's a friend that asked you, you know, to keep something confidential, I would understand.
Amanda: Well, we're married, and I don't think we should keep secrets between us.
Amanda: Damon had pictures of Liza on his phone.
Jake: Really? What kind of pictures?
Amanda: She's half-dressed or half-naked.
Jake: You're joking. Can I see them -- I mean, for medical purposes.
Amanda: I'm serious. Liza was trying to set him up, make it look like there was something going on between them so Colby would dump him.
Jake: You're kidding me. Why would she -- what if those pictures got out?
Amanda: I know. That's why I had Damon erase the pictures. I figured if the photos were gone, then the problem would go away, too.
Jake: Oh. Now here we are at this nonparty.
Amanda: Exactly. So do you think that we should tell Tad about Damon and Liza?
Jake: Well, I think that if my -- if my brother's trying to date this woman, and she has got this craziness with his son, I think he deserves to know. So let me go see if I can catch him. It's the least I can do.
Amanda: Wait, Jake, stop. I mean, if we just leave, Krystal's gonna think something's up.
Jake: Baby, this party sucks.
Krystal: So, any sign of Tad or Damon or that cake?
Amanda: Not yet.
Jake: Oh, I left my credit card at the store.
Amanda: Um, yeah. We'll be right back.
Tad: Tell me something. How did we go from a celebration, you know, to a yelling match?
Liza: Right? He's totally unpredictable. You know that.
Tad: No. You know what I know? You know what's absolutely predictable, is you're around every single time he goes south.
Liza: Tad, are you kidding me? I did not put his hand in that register. What if I was a cop?
Tad: Liza, I'm begging you, ok? Don't make my job any harder than it has to be. You know better than anybody this adoption's supposed to make him feel like he's one of us, ok, that he's one of the family, that he's loved. Now look at him. He's yelling at me. He's pushing me away all over again.
Liza: You can't make him do anything he doesn't want to do.
Tad: So he doesn't want to be part of my family?
Liza: I'm just saying, Tad, you have done everything for him, and what does he do? He keeps throwing it away, but it's not your fault.
Tad: No, no, it's not, but it's my responsibility to teach him how to trust.
Liza: Tad, he's an adult, right? He's making his own decisions. It's just too bad he keeps making the wrong ones.
Tad: You're doing it all over again. Liza, you're supposed to be helping me. You're so important to me. You're not supposed to be standing around continually taking shots at my son.
Liza: Excuse me? I'm really sorry, but after what he's done to Colby and after what he's done to you? Yeah, I'm protective!
Tad: I don't need to be protected. For all you know, this is my fault.
Liza: No --
Tad: No -- ok, listen. If I decided to do something a little more low key, you know, something with a little less pressure than some big party, who knows? He would've showed up on time. Mark my words. I'm gonna bet you cash money he wakes up tomorrow, he feels bad about it, and he apologizes.
Liza: Tad, you have no idea what he's capable of.
Tad: I know exactly what he's capable of because I was there, and you were there with me. There's nothing you can tell me about Damon that's gonna surprise me.
Liza: Yes, there is. I can't say this.
Tad: No, no, no, no. Please. We're on a roll. By all means, if you got something to say, spit it out.
Liza: Fine, Tad. You know what? He's more like you were at that age than you know, and it's not a good thing.
Colby: Hi, Daddy. It's me, Colby. Um, I really need to talk to you. Maybe I can fly to New York for a few days, come see you? I really miss you, Daddy. Everything is out of control right now and it -- and it's different, and I don't think I can handle it.
[Damon walks in]
Colby: Go away. I'm busy.
Damon: You're upset. You were just calling your dad. He's not here, but I am.
Colby: There's nothing you can do. There's nothing anyone can do except my dad. He can do it. He can change it all. He can fix it all. I know he can.
Damon: You're not making any sense.
Colby: Scott is marrying Annie. She is toxic. Why am I the only person in this entire family who can see that?!
Damon: J.R. knows what Annie's about. You guys can work together, you know, convince Scott he's making a mistake.
Colby: That's the thing -- she's playing J.R., too. She is taking everybody down in my entire family one by one.
Damon: Tell me exactly what happened.
Colby: Why? It's not like you care.
Damon: Look, I know I've been flaking out lately, but that doesn't mean that I stopped caring.
Colby: We were supposed to meet before the party today. I called, I texted, you never got back to me.
Damon: I was in the middle of something.
Colby: Yeah, that's the thing -- it's always on your schedule! Maybe my mom was right. Yeah, maybe you're just not dependable.
Damon: Liza is not right, ok? I've just had a lot of stuff thrown at me lately, and I couldn't deal with it. That's all.
Colby: So that's why you're here. You are here to make you feel better.
Damon: Come on! I'm here because we make each other feel better. And somehow just now, I knew that you needed me the same way that I needed you. So whatever I can do for you right now I will.
Colby: No. I need to go to New York. I need to see my dad. He needs to know about everything that has gone down.
Damon: Ok. Then I'll get you to New York. When can you leave?
Liza: When you were his age, you caused a lot of pain, and you didn't do it maliciously. You just didn't think things through about exactly who you'd hurt.
Tad: Thanks for the flashback. Are we gonna talk about Damon?
Liza: It's in his DNA.
Tad: It's not in his -- that's ridiculous. There's a huge difference. I was a jerk because I enjoyed being a jerk. He's got a condition. It's being treated. You don't know that this didn't happen because of his medication.
Liza: It's not the medication.
Tad: No, he could've been acting out because the dosage is off.
Liza: It has nothing to do with the pills. It has nothing to do with it, because no matter how many pills you're gonna give him, it's not gonna change who he is. Ok, I just want you to know that I have tried to work this out with Damon before getting you involved.
Tad: Oh. Oh, thank God. I appreciate the soft-soaping, but like I said, if you have something to say, just let it out.
Liza: He kissed me.
Tad: Ha ha ha ha!
Liza: Yeah, he kissed me.
Liza: When you were signing the adoption papers. He got up. You went to the kitchen. He turned to me. He wanted a hug. Before I know it, he was kissing me.
Tad: Wow. So that happened, what, weeks ago, and you decided that this is the perfect -- you tell me about it now?
Liza: I'm sorry. I thought that was gonna be a one-time thing. And now, what, he's reaching into the register? He's stealing money? He's not showing up at the party?
Tad: Now, wait a minute. Just go back, ok? The kiss -- how do you know that it wasn't some kind of a misunderstanding?
Liza: Because I know when someone's kissing me. Tad, he doesn't care who gets hurt. Not even you. Not Colby. And Damon can call it whatever he wants, but he only cares about one thing, and that's himself. That's who your son is.
Marissa: I hope that you'll be very happy.
Scott: I will. We both will.
Annie: I'm -- I'm glad that you could share this with us.
Marissa: Me, too.
Scott: That was a pretty nice toast there.
J.R.: I meant every word.
Scott: You ok? You look a little shot.
J.R.: Must've been that all-nighter. You'd be feeling it, too, if you weren't on such a high. Annie -- congratulations.
Annie: Thank you.
Marissa: We should get going back to studying.
J.R.: Yeah. We'll see you at the house.
Scott: Good luck tomorrow.
Marissa: Thank you.
Colby: Do not take me to New York because you think that's what I want to hear.
Damon: You want to see your dad? I'll make it happen. End of story.
Colby: You're not gonna ditch me at the last minute?
Damon: I guess I deserve that. Look, this stuff with Annie -- you shouldn't deal with this alone. Come on, I've got your back, Colby. Believe that.
Damon: "Ok"? That's it? Ok, let's get you packed.
Colby: Damon? Please do not let me down.
Damon: I won't.
Tad: So he kissed you? What were you doing?
Liza: Well, I was --
Tad: No, did you trip and land on his face? What happened?
Tad: No, wait a minute. Why didn't you step on his foot? Why didn't you do something?
Liza: Because it was unexpected, and don't blame this on me.
Tad: Well, it doesn't make any sense. All right. Ok. Fine. You're right. This is major. But who's me to understand what is going on?
Liza: Oh, Tad, if there was any other way, I would not have laid this on you.
Tad: No, it's ok. Good or bad, I should know what's going on with my son.
Liza: And I know you thought I was being too hard on him. But now that you know exactly who he is, I hope you understand that I did have a point. I was never out to get Damon. I'm only trying to protect Colby. And I'll tell you I will always be in her corner, just like I am in yours now.
Jake: Hmm. I don't know if telling Tad is a good idea or not, but whatever is going on over there, this doesn't look like the best time. So --
Liza: So what do we do now?
Tad: What do you mean, what do we do? We fix it.
Marissa: Is it wrong to hope that all this stuff would just go away?
J.R.: What can I do to help? You want some chocolate? How about an energy shake?
Marissa: No. I think I just need some time with the books.
J.R.: Here. Let me quiz you.
Marissa: No, you don't have to do that. You stayed up all night, remember?
J.R.: I want to. Let me get you that energy shake.
Marissa: You think it's gonna be a big wedding?
Marissa: Scott and Annie -- a big wedding or a small one?
J.R.: Honestly, I hope they elope, move out of this house, have a great life someplace else.
Annie: It is gorgeous, Scott. How did you even have time to get this?
Scott: So it's what you wanted?
Annie: It is everything I wanted. Ohh.
Scott: A safe home for you and Emma? A husband with position, power?
Annie: And love.
Scott: You married my uncle for security, for what he could give you.
Annie: I loved Adam.
Scott: Don't. You saw the Chandlers as your way to the top, and you went for it.
Annie: You don't think my feelings for you are genuine?
Scott: Oh, I know they are. I do. I wouldn't have proposed to you if I didn't. But you and J.R. -- you still have some kind of connection.
Annie: That means nothing.
Scott: I've seen it, Annie, and so has Marissa.
Annie: It's over. That's what this ring means.
Scott: Oh. [Picks up a picture of J.R.] I believe that. I believe that you and J.R. are in the past because I am your future. I am the man that you are meant to be with. I am the man who can give you everything that you could ever want and more. Have faith in that.
Annie: I do, Scott.
Scott: I love you. I know who you are, and I love you. So I am telling you to step up and prove to me that my faith in you is justified.
Annie: I will. I will spend my life making you proud.
Annie: Ha! There's no music.
