Ryan: You get some sleep. You'll feel better in the morning.
Greenlee: Ryan? You told me David bribed the S.E.C. to stay out of jail, look like a hero. I defended him. Now I know you told the truth. David -- he didn't.
Ryan: I'm sorry.
Greenlee: Isn't it what you wanted? You're so sure he would hurt me.
Ryan: I never wanted you to get hurt, Greenlee. Never.
[Knocking on door wakes Greenlee up]
Greenlee: All right already! Ohh.
Bianca: Now, there's a greeting.
Greenlee: I just thought -- never mind.
Krystal: Well! Is this a working dinner?
Jack: Actually, I was gonna ask you if you could help me out later, come by the office?
Krystal: Well, sure. Yeah. It's kind of a slow time. I think I could sneak out.
Jack: Good. Thanks. I'm securing a buyer for Cortlandt Electronics, and the sooner the better.
Krystal: So Caleb wants out, huh?
Jack: I think that would be good for everybody involved.
Krystal: Yeah. Well, I tell you, he's lucky that he has you to handle this, because -- well, I don't know. A man from the mountains -- he probably couldn't really keep up with those sharks out there.
Jack: "Man from the mountains"?
Krystal: Man from the mountains.
Jack: Yeah. Well, I think he'd do just fine. It turns out our friend from the backwoods was at one time a high-powered Los Angeles attorney before he dropped out 20 years ago.
Krystal: What? Wow. A big-city big-time lawyer, huh?
Krystal: Never would've guessed.
Jack: You spent some time with Caleb. What's your take?
Krystal: Oh, I don't know. Looks like you've done all the research yourself there.
Jack: Not me. Erica did all the digging.
Erica: No, I don't want you to go. We still have to solve the problem of Cortlandt Electronics.
Caleb: Problem solved: I'm selling the company.
Erica: Well, what about what Palmer wanted?
Caleb: Company's gonna do fine without me, especially with you running it.
Erica: Well, maybe Palmer's bequest wasn't so much about Cortlandt Electronics as it was doing what he felt was really good for his nephew. I bet he wanted to challenge you, engage you. Certainly a man of your abilities, you're equal to the task.
Caleb: Not interested.
Erica: All those years all alone up in that mountain? What happened? You don't like a challenge anymore? When was the last time you were really genuinely challenged?
Caleb: Every time you open your mouth.
Ryan: So the other room isn't gonna be ready for a few hours. The hotel's completely booked.
Madison: It's New York.
Ryan: Ha ha ha!
Ryan: I don't know if you should be so trusting of me. I mean, this is kind of the oldest trick in the book, right? You take a woman away for a trip, and you promise her a room, lots of privacy, and then you get there and there's only one room available.
Madison: Well, see, if that is what you were up to, and you didn't want to get caught, this is exactly how you would play it.
Ryan: The old double-switch? But you can't accuse me of that, because I'm the one who brought it up first.
Madison: Well, what if I told you that while you were getting our bags, I talked to the desk clerk and paid him off and told him to say that the room wasn't available?
Ryan: Did you?
Madison: No. But that would've been pretty cool.
Ryan: Ha ha ha!
Erica: Well, don't look at me. I didn't invite you to come home with me after I got rescued.
Caleb: Like I would've come if you had?
Erica: And yet we keep on running into each other, just like that bird and that plate-glass window you so colorfully described.
Erica: But that bird doesn't keep on colliding in that same plate-glass window over and over again.
Caleb: Smart bird.
Erica: Sometimes there is just no explanation for how things play out except --
Caleb: Planes falling out of the sky?
Erica: Or a dead man's wishes.
Erica: Look, there's no denying that we keep being thrown in together. Maybe it means something, maybe it doesn't. You could stay and find out, or you could walk right out that door right now.
Caleb: Thank you.
Erica: I say make your own kismet. Choose your own destiny. Wouldn't you like that better? Your choice? Well, you decide, because I'm tired of talking.
Caleb: Good. [Kiss]
Erica: Is this just some kind of a game to you? Because it's not a game to me. I love Jack.
Caleb: Tell me again what you think would happen if I stayed?
Erica: Look, I have worked very hard to get to where I am right now. And I am full of joy and full of contentment, and a big reason for that is because I have a second chance with Jack. Do you really think I would give all that up for a kiss?
Caleb: Who you trying to convince? You look scared to me.
Erica: I'm not scared. I know what I want.
Caleb: Is that why you kissed me?
Erica: You kissed me. I made my choice.
Caleb: Well, then chalk it up to destiny. Have a safe life.
Erica: Like you living up there on that mountain just because you got your heart broken?
Caleb: I know who I am, and I know what I want.
Erica: Really? Because one minute it looks like you're on your way out the door, and then the next minute it looks like you might stay. So what would happen if things don't work out the way you want? Would you just run again, just leave that big mess you made behind you?
Caleb: Whether I stay or whether I leave, I take responsibility for my actions. I don't blame it on some power that I don't believe in.
Erica: What do you believe in?
Caleb: I believe in peace. I believe in tranquility. I believe in the sun setting on the rim of a hill, and I believe in the stars lighting up the nighttime sky. I have a very long list of things that I believe in. What about you? What do you believe in?
Erica: I believe in my life. I won't let you ruin my life.
Krystal: Wow. Hmm. Stanford University. Magna cum whatever. The guy is legit.
Krystal: Look, all I'm saying is any professional with the weight of a huge company in the balance is gonna do exactly what Erica did.
Jack: And Erica is a consummate businesswoman, but she's also in the middle of planning a wedding.
Krystal: Whatever you're thinking, don't go there.
Jack: I know what Erica and I have. That's not the issue. I mean, our history -- it speaks for itself. This? This Caleb Cooney? This person -- I mean, how the hell do you trust a man who did what he did? What?
Krystal: You really don't need me to tell you this, do you? Ohh. Whatever Caleb Cooney was, or is, Caleb Cooney is no Jackson Montgomery.
Bianca: We had a meeting with a new distributor. Big deal -- showing Fusion's back on track, ready to come back strong -- and one of the owners is a no-show. How do you think that looks?
Greenlee: Like maybe the owner was busy. Where did David put the aspirin?
Bianca: Have you been drinking?
Greenlee: Have you?
Bianca: That's why you missed the meeting? You were getting drunk?
Greenlee: I'm not drunk.
Bianca: How many did you have?
Greenlee: What are you, the drinks police? I had a couple. I didn't drive -- Ryan made sure of that.
Greenlee: Yeah. He gave me the same look you're giving me now, then he drove me home. All right?
Bianca: Need some water?
Greenlee: Everyone wants to help Greenlee and make her feel like a terrible person in the process.
Bianca: I wasn't trying to.
Greenlee: Right. Ohh! Unless you have one more lecture in you, I think we're done here.
Bianca: I'm glad you're back here safe. I just -- I hope Ryan isn't late.
Greenlee: For what?
Bianca: He and Madison are due in New York tonight. They're going to a convention for new ad agencies. They're checking them out for Cambias and Fusion.
Greenlee: He went with Madison?
Bianca: I don't think you give her enough credit. I bet Madison comes back from this trip with a big score.
[Music plays at Krystal's]
Krystal: All right. Well, I'll swing by the office soon as I'm done here.
Jack: Yeah, thank you for that. Hey, listen, listen. Do me a favor. When you come, could you --
Krystal: Ah, wait a minute. Cherry pie, double slice.
Jack: You're good. How'd you know that?
Krystal: Well, men aren't really that complicated.
Jack: Thank you.
Krystal: It's ok. It's just pie.
Jack: Not for the pie. Thank you for helping me keep things in perspective.
Krystal: You know what? From where I stand, it's not really too hard to figure out that Erica is a lucky woman.
Jack: Hah. I'm the lucky one.
Krystal: Well, that's true. So you really don't need any of this. What you need to do is focus on what's important, like your honeymoon.
Jack: Yeah. I'm gonna get started on that pretty quick. Actually, Bianca was pushing for Paris. You know, a private tour of the Louvre, and then down to the South of France.
Krystal: Ohh. South of France -- all those lavender fields and vineyards. And you know what? I think you can actually tour the whole area on horseback.
Jack: That'd be great.
Jack: Not really for Erica, though.
Krystal: Oh, yeah. Right. Maybe you should just skip the hotel and rent a chateau.
Jack: A chateau? Hell, I'll rent a whole vineyard, huh?
Krystal: I'll get that.
Jack: Ok. Thanks.
Singer: It's costly we'll make sure nothing more you get what you pay for you get what you pay for
Erica: Bianca? Bianca, I need your help.
Bianca: I have a message for you from my mother.
[Greenlee reads a note by her bed: "Rest well. I'll see you when I get back. All my love, David]
Greenlee: [Remembers] Sometimes in the morning before I open my eyes, I forget what's happened this past year. I expect to open them and see you next to me. Does that ever happen to you?
Ryan: Just sleep it off.
Ryan: Ok, we got a little bit of a logistical problem here. We got to get to this advertising thing, and we both have to get changed, and yet we only have one room. So --
Madison: It's your room, so I'll use the bathroom.
Ryan: Yeah? Don't accidentally wander out while I'm in mid-change.
Madison: Oh, you're so on to me.
Madison: Whoa! Uh, sorry. Sorry. I just -- I didn't realize I just --
Ryan: Shameless. You know that? You are shameless. Yeah.
Erica: You look busy.
Jack: You have no idea.
Erica: So what is all this?
Jack: Well, just actually coming up with ideas for our honeymoon.
Erica: You are?
Jack: I am.
Erica: Well, I can't wait to hear every single one of them.
Krystal: Hey. Well, if it isn't the lucky bride. Can I get you anything?
Erica: No, thank you.
Krystal: Well, I better get this where it needs to be while it's still hot. Excuse me.
Jack: Ok. Thanks again.
Erica: You are amazing.
Jack: So I've heard. Is something wrong?
Erica: You know how much I love you, and I would never want to hurt you. But I have in the past.
Jack: And I have hurt you. That doesn't mean we're destined to do it again.
Erica: But what if -- what if we do? What if we are rushing into this, Jack, without really giving ourselves the time to realize that we have made really and truly the right decision?
Jack: I thought we had decided this was really and truly the right decision.
Erica: But, Jack, I just want to make sure that when we get married, that we are so sure about this, that our marriage is inevitable. This next time down the aisle, Jack, it has to be our last. And that's why I really think the best thing to do would be to postpone the wedding. Only -- I mean, just to do it in reverse. I just mean to do it in reverse. I mean I think we should take our honeymoon first, and I want to leave tonight.
Caleb: Well, well. Your mom is resigning from Cortlandt.
Bianca: She said you'd understand. With my mom out of the company, you can do what you want -- sell it or keep it without her being a factor in your decision.
Caleb: That's very generous.
Caleb: What do you know? Yeah?
Krystal: Hi. I thought you might like some dinner.
Caleb: I didn't order any food.
Krystal: Don't worry. It's on the house. Oh, I'm sorry. If I'd have known, I'd have brought dinner for two.
Bianca: Oh, I'm not staying. I was just dropping something off for my mom.
Caleb: Got any champagne here? Cortlandt's all mine.
Bianca: My mom resigned.
Bianca: She doesn't have the time. She's going on an extended trip. She's leaving tonight with Uncle Jack.
Caleb: Tell your mom I said thanks.
Erica: We'll go anywhere we want, do anything we want. No schedules, no deadlines. Just -- we'll take weeks, months.
Erica: Well, we'll be so crazy in love. We'll just be doing new things and seeing new things and nobody else to answer to. Just us, just the two of us. And by the time we're finished with all of this, we will just be ready to run down the aisle and know it's forever.
Jack: Well, this is certainly not what I expected when you walked through that door.
Erica: Well, when have I ever been predictable?
Jack: Hmm. One of the many reasons I love you so much.
Erica: Then I hope that's a "ready to leave" yes?
Jack: That's a "let's leave tonight, and I can't wait to have you all to myself" yes.
Erica: Oh, we are gonna have the best time, and we are gonna do everything on this list.
Jack: Even number 8?
Erica: Especially number 8.
Jack: Really? Because this is one of the best ideas you ever had.
Erica: Ha! That's saying something.
Jack: Yeah, it is. Listen, I -- I'm all for this, I think. It's just -- I mean, the timing of this is a little -- you've been under a lot of pressure, and I just want to make sure that you are sure.
Erica: I have never been more sure of anything in my life, Jack. You know it's just about priorities.
Jack: Yeah, ok. So you're sure it's not about just wanting to get away from something that's going on here?
Erica: Absolutely not. No. This is just about us. I mean, no one else, nothing else even matters.
Jack: Ok. So what are we waiting for? We have to make some phone calls, say some good-byes, pack some clothes. We got to get out of here. Hey, one thing, though. What about Cortlandt Electronics?
Erica: I've already taken care of that.
Krystal: You really seemed to like my burgers, so I whipped you one up special. If you want beer, you're on your own there.
Caleb: Why are you here?
Krystal: Just being friendly.
Caleb: Uh-huh. Seems like the only time people are friendly in this town is when they want something.
Krystal: Heh heh heh! Well, not me.
Caleb: Maybe not.
Krystal: You going home?
Caleb: Home's a pile of sticks.
Krystal: Yeah, but you -- you really loved it, didn't you?
Caleb: I built it myself. Could fit the whole thing into the master bedroom of this dump.
Krystal: Well, you can always rebuild.
Caleb: Hmm. Hmm.
Krystal: So the bag -- you leaving or you staying?
Caleb: I was leaving.
Krystal: Did something happen? Erica.
Krystal: Listen, if you need a ride to the airport, I can give you a lift. But if there's something you need to do first before you make that decision to go home, I understand.
Ryan: You look great.
Madison: Thank you. So do you.
Madison: It's kind of weird, though, right?
Madison: Me going to this convention for new ad agencies. I mean, there'll be CEOs there, you know, and I'm just a lowly assistant at a cosmetics company. This is kind of out of my league.
Ryan: This CEO thinks you're gonna shine.
Madison: Well, thanks. So it's not weird -- me being here with you?
Ryan: No. No, it's not weird. It's definitely not weird. Come on.
[Knock on door]
Jack: Greenlee, are you in there?
Greenlee: I don't think I can take this right now. If you came here to bash me some more or tell me not to be in the same state during your wedding, please, just send a text or a tweet.
Jack: You look awful.
Greenlee: That's very helpful.
Jack: Seriously, what's wrong? Are you sick?
Greenlee: I'm ok. I just had a couple of drinks.
Jack: A couple of drinks?
Jack: Well, here. Why don't you have a couple of drinks of water?
Greenlee: You don't have to do that.
Jack: Honey, dehydration's only gonna make what looks like a very nasty hangover worse.
Greenlee: Why are you doing this?
Jack: I'm thinking maybe it's a public service. Here.
Greenlee: Why are you being decent? Why are you here?
Jack: I'm going away.
Greenlee: What? You're leaving again?
Jack: Not for good. Just Erica and I are taking a long trip.
Greenlee: What about your wedding?
Jack: Well, actually, we're gonna do the honeymoon first.
Greenlee: When are you leaving?
Jack: We're leaving tonight. And I don't know how long we're going to be gone for -- a month, maybe two, maybe more -- and I wanted to see you before I left.
Greenlee: You could've sent a postcard.
Jack: Greenlee, I wanted to see you. I was hoping maybe we could make this better.
Greenlee: We make up, you can have your honeymoon with a clear conscience?
Jack: I love you. You know that?
Greenlee: You accused me of some pretty horrible things.
Jack: You've done some pretty horrible things, but you're my daughter. You're my blood. I want you in my life.
Greenlee: You hate David, I hate Erica. We'll never be able to have knives at the family dinners.
Jack: Forks either. Yes, we have some issues that we need to try to get past, but what we have is too precious. And, honey, we've lost too many years already.
Greenlee: You really think we can get past all that's happened?
Jack: I really think we should try.
Greenlee: You're a glutton, you know that?
Jack: Nah. No, what I am, honey, is an optimist. I believe that since no one can really predict the future, that as long as you have hope, anything is possible.
Greenlee: Hoping has never really done much for me.
Jack: That's because you gave up hope.
Greenlee: What's this? [Looks at an old photo of herself and Ryan smiling]
Jack: Something I'm hoping for: That smile, that Greenlee. The daughter that I know is somewhere underneath all this unhappiness.
Greenlee: Where'd you get this?
Jack: I found it going through some things. I've been carrying it around with me. You keep that. I got to go. I love you.
Greenlee: Have a safe trip.
Greenlee: Dad? I love you, too.
[Door closes after Jack puts his hands on his chest and blows Greenlee a kiss]
Greenlee: I'm sorry. Hi. Hi. I just want to know when the next flight to New York leaves.
Erica: Did you see Caleb?
Bianca: Yeah. I gave him your resignation letter.
Erica: How relieved was he?
Bianca: Well, Caleb's not exactly a gusher, but your resigning certainly took him by surprise. I have to say he's not the only one. Are you really leaving tonight?
Erica: Yes. That's the plan.
Bianca: Where did this come from? Is something wrong?
Erica: No. Absolutely not, no. Jack and I are just -- we're just being spontaneous. You know, we've been just so busy and so stressed and so pulled in every different direction. This just gives us enough time to -- to just be us, you know, just to remind ourselves why we love each other so much. And what better way to make sure that this is gonna last for a lifetime?
Caleb: So you think I should?
Krystal: I think you should do whatever you need to do, even if it's just say good-bye.
Caleb: You know Montgomery, right?
Krystal: Yeah. He's my friend.
Caleb: Hmm. So why would you want me to go see his fiancée, the woman he's gonna marry? Why would you do that?
Krystal: All right, look, I have always been a big believer in fate.
Caleb: If I hear the word "fate" one more time, I'm gonna throw up. End of conversation.
Krystal: Wait a minute. Listen to me. Jack and Erica have something, or maybe they just had something and it seems like it's still there. But on the other hand, I've seen you with Erica, and there's something there, too. Maybe something unsettled? Certainly not by some letter of resignation. And, frankly, you seem to be the kind of man who's not gonna stand by and watch while something he wants walks away.
Caleb: Oh, somebody else who knows what I want.
Krystal: No, I don't know what you want. But I know that you have this moment, and you can let it pass or you can do something. All that peace that you talk about wanting to get back is gonna be pretty hard to come by when you're buried in regret.
Caleb: And you're telling me all of this because?
Krystal: Ok, look, whatever you decide, it's your call, no one else's. But you can borrow these.
Caleb: Hmm. [Accepts Krystal's car keys] Caleb: Women.
Krystal: I want those back.
Erica: My only regret is you and the girls. They just got here, and they're still getting settled in. But who knows? By the time I get back, maybe Kendall will be here, and then we'll all be together again.
Bianca: You're happy?
Erica: I'm thrilled.
Bianca: Good. Because I just want this trip to be everything you say it is.
Erica: Do I hear a "but"?
Bianca: But it's just -- it's so sudden. And this whole thing with Caleb --
Erica: Caleb has nothing to do with this.
Bianca: Why did you need me to deliver your resignation letter? It was like you didn't want to see him or --
Erica: Caleb is just a man who came into my life for a brief period due to a strange twist of fate, and -- but fate is different from destiny, and destiny is just about to come in here and sweep me off my feet and jet me all around the world.
Bianca: Well, I hope it's the trip of a lifetime.
Erica: Well, I miss you already.
Bianca: Me, too.
Erica: But, you know, it's lucky. My blog and my Twitter accounts -- they're already set up. And so I can post, you know, pictures and updates from everywhere we go. iamericakane.com -- no spaces. That's catchy, huh?
Bianca: Very you, Mom.
Erica: Ok, good. And then my Twitter name is gonna be on my web site.
Bianca: Well, Miranda will be very excited.
Erica: We'll stop by. We'll stop by, and we'll kiss her and Gabby before we go. Ok?
Bianca: I have to go to a meeting.
Erica: Yes, you do. Have a good one.
Bianca: Thank you.
Erica: Ok. I'm done with you. Ohh.
[Elevator doors open at Fusion]
Erica: Oh, I'm so glad you're finally here, Jack. [Sighs]
Bellhop: Did somebody lock theirself out?
Greenlee: You know what? I am such an idiot. I left my room without remembering my key. Now I have to go down to the lobby and --
Bellhop: Maybe I can help.
Bellhop: What name's the room under?
Greenlee: Ryan Lavery.
Bellhop: I hope your husband knows what he's got.
Greenlee: What was I thinking? Huh. A new low, even for me.
Ryan: You were a hit.
Madison: You think?
Ryan: What do you mean, do I think? You got, like, a thousand business cards. It was amazing, really.
Erica: What do you want?
Caleb: I got your letter.
Erica: Well, then you know I've resigned. So there's nothing else to discuss.
Caleb: Come on. You don't quit. A letter of resignation delivered by your daughter? That's not your style.
Erica: Is that why you're here? You want to fight?
Caleb: No. I came here to tell you in person that I accept.
Erica: Well, good. I really didn't have time for this.
Caleb: Because you're leaving?
Erica: Yes. I don't know when I'll be back.
Caleb: Hmm. You didn't mention this trip before.
Erica: Well, it came up later after you and I were finished.
Erica: My future is with Jack, and yours is back up on that mountain that you love so much, where you have quiet and peace and solitude. Down here in my world, it's very hard to come by -- that kind of peace and quiet and solitude -- so maybe it's time you go back to your clouds. I really do need to finish packing now.
Caleb: Who's running now?
Erica: I'm going on my honeymoon with my fiancé.
Caleb: I've got one question for you. Are you leaving because you don't trust yourself around me?
Erica: Oh, Jack. Oh, I'm so glad you're here.
Jack: Is there some kind of problem?
Erica: No, of course not. No problem at all. No. No, Caleb just -- just wanted to come by and talk to me about my letter of resignation.
Jack: I don't want to rush anyone, but we do have a plane to catch.
Erica: Oh, no rush. No rush. We are actually finished.
Jack: By the way, with regard to the sale of Cortlandt Electronics, you don't have any worries. I can facilitate that from anywhere in the world.
Caleb: Well, good. That's a good thing.
Jack: So if there's nothing else?
Caleb: No. Fly safe, Dorothy. Try not to land on anybody's house this time.
Erica: No, I've already landed. I'm not going anywhere. Oh. About that question you just asked me? The answer's no.
