Colby: Why aren't you smiling?
Colby: Me staying here. It's good news. I'm staying here with you. It's good, right?
Damon: It's good. Yeah.
Colby: If you want to be with me so badly -- then why do you look so guilty?
Tad: I need to keep an eye on Damon?
Tad: What is it?
Liza: Tad, just watch your son, ok?
Tad: For Pete's sake. This isn't about him with Colby again, is it? Because you don't like the idea of the two of them together?
Liza: No. It's not. It's not. It's about Damon and me.
Erica: Jack, you really are overreacting. There's nothing going on between Caleb and me.
Jackson: I know what I heard.
Erica: Jack, do you really think that with all I've got going on in my life that I want to run Cortlandt Electronics with a rude and stubborn hermit? Of course, I don't. But this hermit just might go and sell Cortlandt Electronics to the Chandlers. I can't let that happen. I have an obligation to protect Palmer's legacy.
Jackson: I love you. And we're going to be married. And this time I want it to last. But we don't have a chance in hell unless you're honest with me, unless you're honest with yourself about Caleb. Now, something happened between the two of you up on that mountain. Something is still happening between the two of you, and damn it, I deserve the truth.
Erica: I don't know what's happening between Caleb and me. Honestly, I don't know.
Krystal: Let's see. What can I tell you about the Chandler men? Well, they go after what they want, and they don't stop until they get it. Money, power, women. My daughter Marissa made the mistake of marrying J.R., and it scares me to death.
Caleb: Did he hurt your daughter?
Krystal: J.R. has some good in him, ok? And he tries to love Marissa. But he is his daddy's son.
Caleb: Good old Adam.
Krystal: You know Adam Chandler?
Annie: Check this out. Ok. Instead of going with the typical press release, I thought we'd do something like this.
J.R.: Oh, I like that.
J.R.: What the hell were we thinking? We can't be anywhere near each other.
[Knocking on door]
Marissa: Is everything all right?
Scott: Well, um, ahem. Listen, after our talk downstairs, I realized there's something that you should know about Annie. She's the new head of P.R. for Chandler.
Marissa: She talked you into letting her represent your company?
Marissa: Yeah. Of course. What am I saying? I'm sure she did a lot more than talk.
Scott: Look, Marissa. Annie just wants to contribute and this is the perfect way.
Marissa: She had sex with my husband. Has everyone forgotten that contribution? What the hell were you thinking?
Scott: Ok. Look.
Scott: Annie is with me now.
Marissa: Oh. Mm-hmm.
Scott: Trust me. The worst is over. And this will be good for all of us.
Marissa: Oh, really? How is Annie in J.R.'s face 24-7 good for me?
Scott: She's made her choice, Marissa. All she needs is a focus, and this job will give her just that. And besides, most of the time she'll be working with me, anyway. We have to trust them sometime.
Annie: I am a part of Chandler now. We have to find a way to be able to work together and be around one another. It's unavoidable. Oh, come on, J.R. We are in a public place. It's not like we're gonna rip each other's clothes off.
J.R.: I have to go.
Annie: This is business, ok? Something you have been very successful at. I need you to show me how it works. I need to learn from you.
J.R.: Learn from Scott. Hire a consultant. Hire a whole damn team. I'm sticking to the deal we made at the beach house. You and I -- we're done.
Annie: It was so much easier to hate you.
Krystal: What's going on?
Caleb: I've been hearing things about Adam Chandler.
Krystal: Well, I'm not surprised. So why are you even meeting with Scott and J.R.? Why are you even considering their offer for palmer's company?
Caleb: Who says I am?
Krystal: Ok, so you're telling me you're not gonna sell Cortlandt Electronics?
Caleb: I can't wait to get back to my home. Have some peace and quiet.
Krystal: [Laughs] Peace and quiet. Except for when a plane carrying Erica Kane crashes through your living room.
Krystal: Caleb -- I've seen you and Erica together. I've seen the sparks.
Caleb: Oh, please. People think that prison is bad, they oughta try being on a mountaintop with the mouse that roared.
Krystal: Yeah, I know. Yeah, I shared a tent with that "mouse."
Krystal: In Africa. It's a long story. I -- let me just put it this way. She's tough.
Caleb: In my life, I have never, ever heard anybody talk so much. I mean, she talks about herself like she is the Queen of England. Don't get me started. Thank you for your time and thank you for the burger -- and the conversation. I appreciate it.
Erica: I thought I was gonna die when that plane crashed. But when I woke up, I -- I was trapped in the wreckage. And Caleb appeared. And he carried me out of there. He saved my life on more than one occasion. He was very rude. I did not understand his behavior. I don't understand him now. But I owed him my life. I was dependent on him to survive. The time we spent together up on that mountain was -- it was very intense.
Jackson: Go ahead.
Erica: What I mean is -- Jack, I was alone and I was trapped and I was scared. I was missing home. When you found me -- I was so happy. I was so happy to be going home with you and -- and to our life.
Jackson: And then Caleb shows up in town.
Erica: He's Palmer's nephew. That man is a Cortlandt. I mean, what are the chances?
Jackson: It's an amazing coincidence, that's for sure.
Erica: Oh, it's bizarre. And what's even more bizarre is that palmer has paired us to run Cortlandt Electronics. And ever since we found out, Caleb has been pushing my buttons.
Jackson: You've had your buttons pushed by the best. Why do you let him get to you?
Erica: I don't know. I'm thinking maybe it's post-traumatic syndrome. I'm trying to figure that out. But God knows, I don't want him here. I want him to go back where he came from so I can get on with my life. I may have spent time with him up on that mountain -- but every moment, I was thinking of you. I was missing you. I was loving you. I still love you. Only you, Jack.
Tad: You and Damon. You and Damon. Here we go again. Look, I know, I admit he has problems, that he's had problems. But he's turning it around. I'm telling you, lately he's been -- he's been reasonable. He's been responsible. He's been reliable. He did the laundry. I thought somebody broke into the house.
Liza: Tad, it's not --
Tad: I'm telling you, he has changed. And ever since I put a ding on Paul Miller's face, it's like I'm dealing with a different kid.
Liza: You're not. You're dealing with the same troublemaker that he has always been. Tad, believe me.
Tad: I'll tell you what's going on here, ok? You don't want to accept the fact that he's changed because if you did, you'd have to cut the cord with Colby.
Tad: Eventually you're gonna have to let her make her own choices, you know. Live her own life.
Liza: This is not about me and Colby. It's about you. It's about you waking up and seeing your son for who he really is.
Tad: I've seen my son. He's a good boy.
Liza: He's doing things, Tad. He has done things that are --
Tad: So have you.
Tad: So have I. I'm sorry, I cannot stand here in good conscience and let you or anybody else attack my kid. Especially you. Liza, I'm telling you -- if you want this thing to work, you just gotta cut Damon some slack.
[Cell phone rings]
Liza: Excuse me.
[Cell phone rings]
Liza: Liza Colby. Are you sure about -- yes. Thank you very much for telling me. Wow. So that was my friend in New York, the one that gave Colby the internship. And Colby has backed out of the program.
Colby: Why aren't you excited I'm staying here with you?
Damon: I'm happy. I just -- I don't want you to miss out on something that could be really great.
Colby: Well, I don't want to miss out on us -- something that I already know is great.
Damon: You're right. You're right.
Damon: Mm --
Colby: This may sound kind of stupid, but -- a lot of people in my life have bailed on me and lied to me and used me. You're different. I can -- I can trust you. Please, Damon, do not let me down.
Damon: I have to go.
Damon: I have to meet Tad for lunch. We set a --
Colby: Damon, wait.
Scott: Hello. Mm. I was wondering when you were gonna get back.
Annie: Oh, J.R. and I were just going over the press release for the big acquisition.
Scott: Ok, ok, let's not jump the gun. I haven't sealed the deal yet.
Annie: But you will. I have no doubt. So stop worrying about going to jail for stealing Palmer's invention. You're safe, ok? Ahh. Do you want to go outside, have some lemonade or something?
Scott: I would love to, but I have a meeting.
Scott: I'm sorry. Mm. [Chuckles]
Scott: Oh. I, uh, I worked on the offer for Caleb. I'll be back in a bit. Let me hear what you think.
Annie: Well, here we are. Alone again.
J.R.: I was just going --
Annie: I was thinking that -- um --
Marissa: [Indistinct] Ok? A.J. wanted to show you the fort that he's building out back.
A.J.: Please, Daddy?
J.R.: Yeah, forts are cool. But we also know that violence isn't the answer. Right?
Marissa: I heard you got a job.
Annie: That's right.
Marissa: Unbelievable. You just keep pushing for more and getting it.
Annie: I'll be good for Chandler.
Marissa: Oh, yeah. Just stick to public relations, ok? Don't set up any private meetings with my husband.
Annie: Caleb. You must be here to see Scott and J.R. Come in.
J.R.: Ah. Speak of the devil. Now, we don't have a number for you just yet, but I can show you a preliminary.
Jackson: How would you like to get married on a yacht? Say our vows. Sail off into the sunset. Just the two of us. You say the word, I'll make it happen.
Erica: Jack, it sounds wonderful. But running away is not the answer. I have got to face this thing with Caleb head-on. I have to sever all ties with him. And I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna end it now. For myself -- and for us.
Colby: Tad? Damon? Anyone home?
Colby: What are you doing here?
Liza: I just got a phone call from my friend in New York. Said that you turned down the internship.
Liza: So Damon put you up to this. He got you to blow off your future. For him.
Colby: It was my decision. Who are you calling?
Liza: I'm calling my friend in New York, and I'm telling her the whole thing was a big mistake and that you're really eager to get working.
Colby: No, no, I am staying here. I am staying here, and I'm staying here with Damon.
Liza: Do you see yourself? Do you even see yourself, what you're doing? Right now? You're in here, you're sneaking around, you're snooping through his pockets. You're trying to break into his room.
Colby: No, you have really no idea what you are talking about.
Liza: Looking around for something, aren't you? Some sort of what -- evidence that he's cheating on you? Did you check his collar for lipstick? Did you look through his phone? Maybe he's got new phone numbers in there.
Colby: Get out of my face.
Liza: Do you even see what's going on here? Do you see what you're becoming? You're insecure and you're unsure. You're sneaking around here. Please, Colby, get a grip. You're on the verge of losing it. Don't you see what Damon is turning you into?
Colby: I love him, Mom.
Liza: No, love is not this way. This is not love. It's full of doubt and secrets. Colby, love like this -- this is never going to last.
Tad: You asking me to lunch.
Damon: You gotta eat, right?
Tad: Yeah. Well, as long as you're paying for it, fine with me.
Damon: I have $2.00.
Tad: It's a joke. It's just -- it's a joke.
Damon: Your hand still bothering you there?
Tad: Yeah. Yeah, a little, I guess. I guess Paul Miller is even more hard-headed than I thought he was.
Damon: I wish I had been there to see you pound him.
Tad: That's exactly why I made sure you weren't. It was a stupid move.
Damon: No, it wasn't. That jerk deserved it.
Tad: We all do. At some point. I mean, the world's full of people that got it coming to them. I told you about my father, right? I mean, my biological dad Ray Gardner. He was the most twisted, sadistical son of a bitch on the planet. Made a hobby out of using me as a punching bag. My mom was so busy taking care of my little sister, trying to stay alive, she couldn't do anything about it. God, I hated him. Still do. More than anything on the planet. I swore I'd never be like him.
Damon: Well, you're not.
Tad: I was yesterday. I was exactly like him. I used violence to make a point because I wasn't smart enough or patient enough to find another way of doing it. Damon, there isn't a person on this earth doesn't know what it's like to want to get even with somebody. In my case, as I got older, I realized there was a better way of dealing with it. You ever heard the phrase, "Living well is the best revenge"? It's the truth. It is. Trust me, it was for me. See, I went from growing up in a total nightmare to being adopted by the Martins. And that was the best way in the world to get even with that bastard.
Damon: Must've felt pretty good.
Tad: Yeah, and no. I mean, it happened -- thank you. It happened too quickly, you know? I -- it was the complete opposite of everything that I'd ever known.
Damon: How'd you deal?
Tad: Not too well. At first. I was a disaster. Like, I -- I didn't believe it was real. I didn't believe it was gonna last. I know you got a lot to deal with. I know that it's hard, having a new father and a family. Hey, despite my phenomenal sense of humor. You're gonna need time, and that's fine with me. Take all the time you need, because I'm not going anywhere. And I will protect you.
Marissa: I was weirded out when I first got here, too. It's a lot to take in when you're not used to it.
Caleb: You're Krystal's daughter?
J.R.: Marissa, why don't you help A.J. finish his fort?
Marissa: Come on, A.J. Let's go.
Caleb: You don't want your wife and kid to witness this, huh?
J.R.: I just didn't want to bore her with business. Now, we have a number. I think you'll like it.
Caleb: That's typical. You think I'm gonna walk away just for a few bucks and a handshake.
J.R.: I think it's a fair offer.
Caleb: Chandlers don't play fair. You play for blood. Ahem.
Annie: I think you've got the wrong impression about our family.
Caleb: What would possibly make you want to marry a guy like this?
J.R.: What exactly is your problem?
Annie: J.R.! Oh, my God, oh, my God, you're bleeding.
J.R.: Damn it!
Erica: What's going on here?
Annie: You may need stitches.
J.R.: No, no, no, no. I'm fine.
Erica: Boy, for somebody who hates the Chandlers, you sure do spend a lot of time with them.
Caleb: Well, you hate me, and here you are.
Erica: I know you love insulting people -- me, J.R., just about everyone. Is that the way you entertain yourself? Why are you here?
Caleb: I just came by to see what kind of offer Junior was gonna make me.
J.R.: He doesn't want a deal. He wants blood.
Caleb: And I got some without even trying. You know, it's a shame that this dump didn't burn to the ground years ago. You Chandlers are all the same. You take what you want, you steal what ain't yours. You can all go straight to hell.
Erica: Please, what is it? What is it? What's wrong? When we were stuck up on that mountain together, I told you some things about myself. You told me next to nothing. So ok, I don't know your secrets, but I can tell that something here has made you very upset. What is it, Caleb? Talk to me. Come on, please. Just -- talk to me.
Marissa: Can I have a coffee, please? Actually, you know what? Make that a double espresso. If I'm gonna pass this bar, I need to stay awake.
Krystal: Uh, you know, could you just put the studying off for just a minute? I -- I kind of want to talk to you.
Marissa: About what?
Krystal: About J.R. I didn't want to say anything earlier, but I saw him at the house with Annie this morning.
Marissa: Yeah. Working closely together?
Marissa: You're not gonna believe this, but Scott hired Annie to be the new head of P.R. for Chandler.
Krystal: That -- that is just wrong. Annie does not need to be working at that company. She does not need to be working with J.R.
Marissa: I know. I know. It is ridiculous. It's not gonna be a problem. J.R. is done with her, ok? And if she does try anything, then I'll just do what David told me to do -- I'll fight back.
Krystal: Wait a minute. You're getting advice from David?
Marissa: I know that he's not the greatest father, ok, but on this, he has actually been really helpful.
Krystal: David is the last person in the world you need to be talking to, especially about marriage. Trust me, I know, ok? He's dangerous.
Marissa: I'm not gonna do anything stupid. But I am going to make sure that she never touches my husband again.
Annie: Can I just --
J.R.: I don't need your help.
Annie: Ok. You want me to stay away from you. Honor the deal we made. I get it. But you're bleeding. Can I at least help you bandage this cut? And then I will stay away from you for good.
J.R.: All right, just hurry up.
Annie: God. That Caleb Cooney's a real jerk, huh?
J.R.: He comes in this house, insults my father, starts talking smack about our family. What?
Annie: Nothing. You said "our family." It was nice.
J.R.: Are you almost done?
Annie: Calm down. He insulted my family, too, you know, a family that I really feel like I'm a part of. There. Was that so hard?
J.R.: You know, I'd take on an army of Caleb Cooneys. It'd be a million times easier than being this close to you and not able to touch you.
Caleb: Would you leave me alone? I am not in the mood for games.
Erica: I am not playing games. Believe me. Palmer put me in charge of his company, which means it's my responsibility to try to figure out what the hell is wrong with you.
Caleb: What's wrong with me? What's wrong with me is none of your damn business, let alone your responsibility.
Erica: What happened to you, Caleb? Why was it so hard for you to be in the Chandler house today? Why did you snap?
Caleb: It's about to happen again.
Erica: I know you've been hurt. I can see that in your eyes. It's that woman, right? The woman whose locket I found? That story you told me about losing everything, about losing her -- was that true? You can trust me, Caleb. Please tell me what's troubling you. Why was being in that Chandler house today, why -- why did that have such an effect on you?
Caleb: Junior made me a lousy offer. That's all. Ok?
Erica: It's much more than that and you know it.
Caleb: Why don't you drop it? Just walk away from this. Just walk away.
Erica: No. I don't do that. And I can't escape it. I can't escape you. And I'm trying to figure that out. This keeps on happening. We keep colliding. We have absolutely nothing in common. We detest being around each other. We both just wanna get back to our lives. And yet -- something happened on that stupid mountain.
Caleb: See ya.
Erica: You cannot keep running away, Caleb.
Colby: You are really starting to piss me off.
Liza: You know what? You want to be pissed at somebody? Be pissed at Damon.
Colby: How was lunch?
Tad: It was great. It was good. We stopped off to pick up something on the way home.
Colby: For me?
Damon: I'm really sorry about before. I don't want to fight with you. I just -- I've had a lot of stuff to figure out, you know, with the adoption and the ADHD, and I just don't know where I am sometimes. But -- but one thing I know for sure is that you're the only girl I wanna be with. I know I have problems focusing in general, but -- from now on, I'm -- I'm just focusing on you.
J.R.: I wanted to buy my Uncle Palmer's company. Show my father I have what it takes. Am I gonna be doing this the rest of my life?
Annie: One of these days you'll realize that you do not have to keep driving so hard. You're already there. You have a lot to be proud of, J.R. You don't have to keep trying to prove yourself to Adam or to anybody else.
Annie: Maybe next time you shouldn't be so cocky. God!
Marissa: What's going on?
Annie: What's going on? Your genius husband just blew the deal of a lifetime, that's what's going on. Acting like a -- like a total jackass in front of Caleb Cooney. Now we're never gonna get Cortlandt Electronics.
J.R.: You're blaming me? Cooney's the one who's out of his mind.
Marissa: What happened to your hand?
J.R.: I broke a picture frame and cut it on it.
Marissa: Oh, God. Does it hurt?
J.R.: It's nothing. I'm glad you came home.
Marissa: Let's go upstairs to our room. I want to take care of my husband.
Erica: And you're still running. What is it about you? You cannot just look somebody in the eye and have an honest, civilized, adult conversa --
Caleb: No more talk! You're going to end this now.
Erica: "This." So you admit that there is something going on between us.
Caleb: You have driven me to the edge. There's nowhere else to go. This the room?
Colby: Camping. Definitely want to go camping because I've never been camping before. Oh, and white water rafting. I definitely want to do that. And there's this huge music festival that we should totally go to. I mean, if you're up for it.
Damon: Hey, I'm up for all of it, as long as it's with you.
Colby: Sorry I've been acting kind of paranoid lately. It's just sometimes I feel like I'm losing you. I've already lost so much in my life. My dad leaving. And my mom. I mean, don't even get me started on her. And my brother -- he's always caught up in his own drama. I just want to know that I can count -- on someone.
Damon: Well, you can count on me.
Liza: Tad, I'm still upset about Colby turning down that internship. I almost had her convinced not to give up everything for a relationship, and then in walks Damon with those flowers, and what woman can resist flowers?
Tad: Listen. You have to have more faith in your kid. All right? She's beautiful, she's smart, she's motivated. Just because she's hung up on Damon doesn't mean she's gonna walk away from all her hopes and her dreams. You know? She'll come back to it. And then she'll have everything. Just like her mama. Although, you know, there is one thing you don't have.
Liza: My sanity.
Tad: [Laughs] No. Wine. You and your back need a glass of wine. Vit, vit, vit, vit, vit, vit.
Marissa: So I guess Caleb wasn't exactly what you expected, huh?
J.R.: Nothing that happened today was. But it doesn't matter. I'm glad that you moved back in here. This time it's gonna work. You and I. Forever.
Singer: Blue water pouring down --
Krystal: Well, hello, there.
Jackson: Hey, hey, hey.
Krystal: Oh, don't get up. No, no. Flying solo?
Jackson: Well, that wasn't the plan, but evidently so.
Krystal: Is everything ok?
Jackson: Yeah. Couldn't be better. Erica and I are going to be married on a yacht. Nice, right? And then it's off for an extended honeymoon. Mm.
Krystal: Ah. Oh, that sounds wonderful. No, I am so happy for you. So life is good. So what -- what -- why are you so troubled?
Jackson: It's Erica. She has been so -- what is the word -- scattered. I guess she has every right to, though. She just survived a plane crash and being stuck in a isolated mountain cabin with a man.
Krystal: Jackson --
Krystal: Erica loves you. And she is damn lucky to have you.
Erica: What are you doing? Kicking down doors. Kicking them closed. Why are we here? Caleb, we have to be reasonable. I shouldn't be here. I have to go. I mean it, Caleb. I have to go.
