[When Annie sees J.R., she recalls him kissing her]

Annie: Great shot, isn't it? Doesn't Scott look so handsome and powerful?

J.R.: Yeah. Yeah. At first, I thought it was the cover of "Mad." Still good for a laugh.

Annie: Don't worry, J.R. You were mentioned in the article -- once.

J.R.: Don't worry, Annie. I won't kiss you again.

Annie: I'm not worried. Are you?

J.R.: No.

Scott: There she is.

Annie: And there he is, the new face of Chandler.

Scott: Ha-ha, yeah. You busy?

Annie: Nope. Not at all.

J.R.: Unless you count being annoying.

Annie: Why? What'd you have in mind?

Scott: I wanted to take you out to lunch.

Annie: I would love that.

Ryan: Ok, where do you want this?

Madison: Oh, anywhere.

Ryan: Ok.

Madison: Thank you for lugging it up here and giving me a lift to work, but I told you my knee is fine today.

Ryan: Well, I would lose my Eagle Scout badge if I didn't give you a hand.

Madison: You were an Eagle Scout?

Ryan: No. Not exactly. They didn't give out badges for what I was doing at 16.

Madison: Oh. So this right here -- this isn't breaking our casual-dating rules?

Ryan: Oh, no, no. No, it doesn't. Anything over 20 pounds is special circumstances.

Madison: Well, good, because I really needed you today.

[Greenlee's phone chimes]

David: What is it?

Greenlee: My father's made it to West Virginia. He's searching for Erica. What if he finds her?

David: We'll handle it.

Greenlee: How, David? How will we handle it if all that's left to find is Erica's dead body?

Jack: Doc, can you tell me anything else, anything at all?

Doc: Well, just Ms. Kane was the prettiest lady I ever did see. Oh, and she liked my lemonade.

Jack: Yeah, yeah. Look, I haven't been able to reach her. I can't track down the plane she chartered. Doc, I'm starting to get worried.

Caleb: Well, look who's up.

Erica: I'm leaving.

Caleb: Sit down.

Erica: Ohh!

Caleb: That is still infected.

Erica: I'm going home today.

Caleb: Really? You just can't wait to get back to that ex-husband lap dog of yours, can you?

Erica: Jack is nobody's lap dog.

Caleb: Really?

Erica: And you, such a prize.

Caleb: You know why women think they can turn men into something that they're not? Because most men let them. Men have forgotten how to be men, and women have forgotten how to be women.

Erica: You don't think it's because some men are so pigheaded, they don't even realize that they could use a little help?

Caleb: It's because men like to have a little peace and quiet sometimes.

Erica: Well, Jack is not like you.

Caleb: I take that as a compliment.

Erica: Boy, if Jack knew where I was, he would just move heaven and earth to rescue me.

Caleb: Hmm. I'd let him.

Annie: I feel incredible.

Scott: Yeah?

Annie: Yeah. Everyone knows I'm with Pine Valley's newest power player.

Scott: Ha ha ha! Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I haven't done anything yet.

Annie: You are in charge of one of the most important companies in the world. You're about to launch this revolutionary new product. It's amazing. And I see the difference in you already -- in your confidence, the way you walk into a room like you own it.

Scott: Yeah.

Annie: [Squeals] I've dreamt about this since I was a little girl.

Scott: What, lunch at the club?

Annie: Being one of the glamorous people. Being envied. Being admired. Heads turning everywhere I go? I mean, fabulous parties, fabulous outfits -- it's really all I wanted. Well, that, and to be secure. My entire life it's like I've been fighting to hold on to the things that I thought were mine, whether it'd be my daughter or my freedom. I just want to wake up one day and not worry that it'll all disappear. I want to wake up feeling like I'm not gonna end up completely alone.

Scott: You are not alone.

J.R.: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I wanted to be a rock star -- sold-out stadiums, world tours, girls putting their posters of me on the wall. But I gave that all up for the business world. But sometimes just before a big meeting I like to play air guitar to get psyched.

J.R.: That's strictly off the record.

Karen: You got to give me something.

J.R.: How about an exclusive, something that every financial reporter would die to have? The reason why I called you here is because Chandler's under attack by a deadly threat, goes by the name of "Annie."

Karen: Your father's wife who's in love with your cousin? That "Herald" interview claimed everything worked out.

J.R.: Yeah, that's what she wants people to believe, but she's poison. She drove my father away from his family. Now she's working on destroying his company. The woman is insane. She spent months upon months in a mental institution after killing her own brother. And she charmed her way past the shrinks and the judges, and she went right into my father's bed. Annie is a pathological liar, and she'll do anything to get what she wants, and what she wants is to bring Chandler to its knees.

Karen: Why are you telling me this, J.R.?

J.R.: Well, I needed someone to hear the real story, someone who would get the truth out there fast.

Ryan: Ok, you're good to go. I'm gonna head out, and I'll give you a call about babysitting hours, ok?

Madison: All right. Well, thanks again for your help. Really. Ohh! God, you got to be kidding me.

Ryan: It's all right. Hold on, hold on. We'll fix it. We'll fix it. We'll fix it. Come on.

Madison: Thank you. Ow. Oh, my knee.

Ryan: Easy with the knee, please.

Madison: Welcome to my world.

Ryan: Your world, huh? Your world of spilled coffee? You're not alone.

David: Jack is not gonna find anything in West Virginia. Nobody's reading anything into Erica's disappearance. Everyone just assumes that she's lying low because she got caught stealing.

Greenlee: Everyone except my father. He knows something is off, and now he'll definitely not give up the search.

David: I'm working really hard to get answers, ok, so you don't have to worry. Jack knows nothing about our plan.

Greenlee: I don't give a damn about our plan. My father loves Erica. He bought an engagement ring, for God's sake. You have no idea what's waiting for him down there. What if he finds Erica's suitcase in pieces, her wallet with pictures of Bianca and Kendall?

David: Stop. Stop.

Greenlee: Even if all he has is a bad feeling to go on, that's enough. He's gonna keep searching until he finds everything, and when he does, it'll kill him.

[Phone chimes]

Greenlee: Ohh. You know what? We have to find Erica, and we have to get my father back here in Pine Valley.

David: Perfect timing.

Doc: You know, on second thought, maybe Ms. Kane didn't say anything about going straight home. She was talking about that letter she got from Pete Cooney -- Palmer Cortlandt to you.

Jack: Yes. What did the letter say, Doc?

Doc: Something about stopping to smell the roses. Maybe she took Pete's advice and went straight on out, took a personal tour of these parts. You know what they say abut women and cats: They'll do as they please. Men and dogs ought to just relax and get used to the idea.

[Phone rings]

Jack: Excuse me, Doc. Hello?

Greenlee: Dad? Thank God.

Jack: Greenlee, what is it? What's wrong?

Greenlee: I just got a call from the S.E.C. They're sending an agent over to Fusion to look over our accounting books.

Jack: It wasn't supposed to be so soon.

Greenlee: They want answers, answers I can't give them. What am I going to do?

Jack: Calm down and just tell me. What did they say?

Greenlee: I can't calm down. Where is she? Where's Erica?

Jack: Greenlee, I don't know. I haven't found Erica yet. Well, someone needs to be here to defend her. Her freedom and my company are on the line. If this guy starts grilling me --

Jack: Greenlee, listen to me. I want you to calm down and just hold them off as long as you can. I'm on my way to the airport right now.

Greenlee: He's on his way back, and he has no idea where Erica is.

Erica: What are you doing?

Caleb: Hmm. Won't be any rain for at least another 24 hours.

Erica: How do you know?

Caleb: Those cirrostratus. Clouds -- direction they're moving in. It says there's not gonna be any precipitation.

Erica: I had no idea you were so well-versed on meteorology.

Caleb: Hmm. People have forgotten how to slow down long enough to appreciate the simplest things in this world, like clouds. Look how beautiful they are. Wind, trees, smell of the earth. By the time we do appreciate it, too late. But to you, it's probably all just dirt and bugs.

Erica: Maybe not. A really good friend of mine recently suggested that I slow it down a little bit, that I stop racing towards the finish line and enjoy the journey, breathe. Huh. He may have found a way to force me into it.

Caleb: Hmm.

[Automobile runs]

Erica: Oh. Is that a car? Hello? Hello, we're over here!  Oh, I'm finally going home. I mean, it's been a great experience, but I can't wait to get into a hot bath. Over here! Hurry, please, here! Oh, what on earth are they for?

Caleb: You. Ha.

Erica: Oh, hey, he's got a uniform on, just like the one --

Ryan: Hey, I didn't know you were invited to Jake and Amanda's wedding.

Madison: Yeah. Looks like a good time.

Ryan: Yeah. So who you going with?

Madison: I'm gonna go stag -- or, whatever you call it for women.

Ryan: Any chance I could change your mind?

Madison: What about casual? Weddings aren't exactly casual.

Ryan: What are you talking about? We would just be saving gas, the whole environmental thing, that's all. On top of that, weddings are bad enough going alone, having to sit through speeches and the toast and the pictures.

Madison: And the dancing.

Ryan: Dancing -- please, no more dancing. But if I do have to, it'd be nice to have a partner that I'm actually comfortable with.

Madison: With a bum knee?

Ryan: We'll use that as an excuse, so it's perfect.

Madison: Ok. I'm in.

Ryan: Great.

Madison: Um, but won't Greenlee be there?

Ryan: Yeah, she will.

Madison: So won't that be a little bit weird?

Ryan: Not for me.

David: And you're absolutely certain? All right. No, I understand. It's just that -- it's ok. All right, thank you. Thank you very much. [Hangs up phone and throws around papers] Damn it.

Greenlee: What is all this?

David: It's nothing.

Greenlee: Looks like leads on Erica.

David: Yep -- leads that didn't pan out.

Greenlee: Where's Cedar Grove?

David: It's in West Virginia. I used the database at PVH to access the names and numbers of every hospital administrator within 300 miles of Pigeon Hollow. I've been going down the list, discreetly asking about any crash victims that may have come in recently.

Greenlee: So you do think that Erica's plane went down?

David: I didn't say that.

Greenlee: "Relax, Greenlee. Don't worry, Greenlee." It's all crap. You're just as freaked out as I am. All that stuff about Erica being fine, hiding out, planning her next move? You were just telling me that to make me feel better. You really think that she's --

David: I don't know! All right? I don't know! [Sighs] But, God forbid, her plane did crash and Erica somehow survived, I'm gonna find her. I'm gonna do everything I can.

Greenlee: All this time you've been telling me that she's fine, that everything's gonna work out the way we planned.

David: And it still might.

Greenlee: How? You think that Erica is dead, because you tried to ground her plane.

David: What do you want me to say?!

Greenlee: I just want you to be honest. I don't want you to try to make me feel better. I don't want you to tell me some story! Ugh! Our relationship is about trust, and all this time you've been telling me that everything is fine when really you knew it wasn't! Or maybe you think that it is. Maybe ending someone's life doesn't bother you at all. How, David? How is it possible that you could've murdered Erica and you feel nothing?

David: I have been trying so hard to stay strong for you, to protect you, to keep you from worrying. I want to fix this. I am gonna try to fix this. But if I can't --

Greenlee: Do you believe Erica is dead?

Scott: You already lived the glamorous life with my uncle.

Annie: Yeah, but I could never fully enjoy it. With Adam, you're useful until you're no longer useful.

Scott: Oh, I'd give him a little more credit than that.

Annie: I give you the credit. If it weren't for you, I would be separated from my daughter right now, and I would probably be living on the streets somewhere. You gave me hope again, Scott. Thank you.

Scott: You will find that safe, happy place that you and Emma are looking for, that you deserve, with the right man by your side.

J.R.: Annie is a deeply disturbed individual. She is a two-faced manipulative -- and that should be enough to get you started.

Karen: Ok, thanks.

J.R.: Mm-hmm. Hi.

Marissa: Who was that?

J.R.: Oh, Karen Kelly. She's a business reporter. She had some questions about Chandler for her blog -- really boring stuff.

Marissa: Huh.

J.R.: Yeah.

Karen: One last thing. Annie was at Oak Haven, right?

J.R.: Right.

Marissa: You weren't talking to her about Chandler. You were talking to her about Annie.

J.R.: Scott's running my father's company. If he's hooking up with that psycho and she's influencing his decisions, the business world has a right to know. It would be irresponsible. It would be downright criminal not to disclose that.

Marissa: So you were really talking about Chandler?

J.R.: Of course.

Marissa: You're right. That is boring. You should've told her you slept with Annie -- that's the juicy stuff.

David: If I'd been in denial, it's only because I couldn't stand the thought of what might have happened to her, what I might have done to her. But I haven't given up hope. Despite the odds, I found you. I brought you back from the brink of death. And if Erica needs me to do the same for her, I'm gonna do everything in my power. Everything.

Greenlee: I just thought you didn't care.

David: Huh. Erica and I, we've been through it. And I would do anything to change what happened. But we're fighters, Greenlee. We're gonna get through this. Wherever Erica is, I'm gonna find her. I really should start making some more calls.

Greenlee: I'll be at Fusion if you need me.

David: Greenlee? Are we all right?

Greenlee: I don't think either one of us can answer that.

Erica: What are you doing? Give that to me!

Caleb: Get the hell off my property! Next time you come back, I won't miss!

Erica: Are you insane?!

[Automobile drives away]

Erica: Ohh! That man was my ticket off this mountain!

Caleb: That's not a man! That's a worm, and I've warned him before. Get out of here!

Erica: You hillbilly! You are completely deranged! I want out of here, and I want out of here now! You get him back here, or I swear I'll --

Caleb: Or you swear what? You'll ruin my life? Ha!

Erica: He was no random trespasser. He came here to help us! He was one of those rangers you told me to wait for!

Caleb: That piss ant and his family are nothing but a bunch of damn thieves and poachers. And don't you ever try to take a gun out of my hand again! Ever!

J.R.: I would never, I mean never, bring our marriage into this fight. What we have means more to me than any grudge or any business.

Marissa: I want to believe that.

J.R.: But you can't. Marissa, I am trying. I am really trying.

Marissa: I told you that this would take time.

J.R.: And I told you I would do whatever it takes to make things right. But when you dig on me about Annie -- I am doing what is necessary to save my family.

Marissa: Is it necessary to go so extreme? Do you really have to get rid of Scott? I mean, if he can help make Chandler more successful, then why don't you just run the company together? Oh. It's not just because he has controlling shares, is it? It's because he has Annie.

J.R.: I don't give a damn about Annie. Chandler is my birthright. It is our son's legacy. My father only gave it to Scott to punish me. I had to fight my way back from death's door to take a backseat to my cousin.

Marissa: Oh, I thought you fought back for me and A.J.

J.R.: Of course, I did. You know that. [Looks at his watch]

Marissa: Let me guess -- you have a meeting?

Madison: It had to be coffee. Couldn't be water or club soda.

Ryan: At least they're awake. [Laughs]

Greenlee: This is Agent Pierce -- ahem -- from the S.E.C. He's here to look at the books. You can take a seat right there, where I can see you. Here you go. Do your thing.

Agent Pierce: Have you heard from Erica Kane?

Greenlee: Fusion is my company.

Ryan: Erica would never steal from her daughter's charity. She's gonna straighten this whole thing out as soon as she gets home.

Annie: The right man is hard to find. Any suggestions of where I should look?

[Phone rings]

Annie: Oh.

[Phone chimes]

Scott: Ahem. Karen Kelly's new blog -- the office sent it over.

Annie: Oh, look! I got it, too.

Scott: Huh.

Annie: "Annie Chandler is a pathological liar, a home wrecker. She's mentally ill and a murderer"? Oh, my God. Who did this to me?

Erica: I am Erica Kane, damn it, and I have put my life on hold long enough! Now, I am sorry that my plane crashed into your house, but I will not stay here one more minute! Lunatic!

Agent Pierce: Tell me about Erica Kane.

Greenlee: Do you not understand English? Erica isn't here. Deal with me.

Ryan: Ok. Excuse us for one second, thank you. Look, I'm not sure, but I don't think antagonizing him is the best way to go.

Greenlee: I know what I'm doing.

[Elevator doors open]

Greenlee: Oh.

Jack: Hi.

Greenlee: Thank you for coming so quickly.

Jack: Sure. Is this the guy from the S.E.C. there?

Greenlee: Yeah.

Jack: All right.

Ryan: Well, Jack, hold on a second. Any word about Erica?

Jack: No, no, not yet.

Ryan: But you must have talked to somebody?

Jack: Not anybody that was helpful in any way.

Ryan: Nothing? You got nothing? Not even an idea about where she could be right now?

Jack: No, Ryan, nothing at all. I mean, maybe if I could have stayed around a little longer. But Greenlee needed my help, so I came right back. Excuse me.

Ryan: Yeah. All right. Hey, hey, are you -- are you ok?

Greenlee: Other than being investigated by the S.E.C., yeah, I'm perfect.

Ryan: Are things still tense with David?

Greenlee: I don't know what you're talking about.

Ryan: Greenlee, come on. I saw you guys arguing at Chandlers', then at Krystal's restaurant. There's obviously something going on.

Greenlee: You were spying on me?

Ryan: No, I wasn't spying on you. It was kind of hard to miss.

Greenlee: Could you just harass someone else? I have work to do.

Ryan: Hey, look at me for a second. If there's something wrong, if you're in trouble, I want you to --

Greenlee: I told you, I can take care of myself.

Ryan: So there is something wrong.

Greenlee: Excuse me.

Ryan: Hey, where you going? Listen to me. I want to help you, but you got to tell me the truth, ok? Did you set up Erica or did David? Is that what you guys are fighting about? Tell me.

Greenlee: I'm done talking about this. But since you ask, my marriage is great. Sure, David and I disagree once in a while, but the make-up sex is phenomenal.

Annie: Oh, my God.

Scott: Ok. One phone call, this blog disappears. She will post a retraction immediately or she will deal with my lawyer. Stay here.

Annie: You did this. You are trying to ruin my life!

J.R.: I believe in the freedom of press.

Annie: It's libel.

J.R.: What I told that reporter was 100% accurate. She has every right to get it out there. And believe me, it is way out there. Yeah. Is it just me, or are people starting to look at you funny?

Annie: Oh, my God.

Scott: Hey, I am all over this. Don't you worry. We will force them to take this down.

Annie: It's too late. That blog is all over cyberspace. It was J.R.

Scott: What?

Annie: Yeah. He was just here to rub it in my face. Please get me out of here.

David: I just stopped by to see if you were all right. It meant a lot to me that you came to me for help. I know. I've been a lousy father. But I was hoping that this might be a new start for us.

Marissa: "A new start." Is that even possible?

David: I'd like to think so, yes.

Marissa: I would, too. Oh, God, I just -- I don't know what to do. J.R. is just still all about this battle with Annie and Scott.

David: Annie? Why is he fighting with her? Why is he doing anything with her?

Marissa: He wants her gone, and he's insisting on going after her himself. He's spending just so much time and energy on her.

David: Have you told him to stop?

Marissa: Of course, I have. He knows that this marriage is on very thin ice. Annie knows that I'm pissed, too.

David: That is not enough.

Marissa: I'm not you, David, ok? I can't just blackmail her or drug her or lock her away somewhere, ok? I won't!

David: How much do you want this? How badly do you want to keep your family together?

Marissa: I want it for A.J.

David: Then you have to be more assertive. Protect what's precious to you. Don't let this situation get out of control. Rein J.R. in. Because if you don't, he's gonna stray again. You can trust me on that. Speak of the devil.

J.R.: What are you doing here?

David: What does it look like I'm doing? Talking to my daughter.

J.R.: Oh. About what?

David: You. Despite the fact that you've hurt Marissa, she's giving you a second chance. Don't ask me why. She's trying to believe that you could actually be a good husband and father. You have to know I have serious doubts.

Marissa: As if you have any right to criticize J.R. He made a mistake, ok, and he's doing everything he can to make up for it. He's standing by his wife and his child, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say about you!

David: Marissa --

Marissa: Get out! And don't ever let me hear you put down my husband again.

[Door closes]

J.R.: Wow. Thank you.

Marissa: Well, we don't need any more trouble in this house. We already have Annie, right?

J.R.: Not for much longer.

Marissa: Do you know how hard this is for me, how completely humiliating? I have to live in the same house as my husband's lover.

J.R.: She's not my -- Marissa, it's over.

Marissa: Is it? Because I have asked you again and again to stop going after her and focus on what's really important. Every time you blow me off, I feel like I'm betrayed all over again. I need you now, J.R., and your son needs you. What could be more important than that?

J.R.: Nothing.

Marissa: Then prove it. Prove that A.J. and I come before everything else.

Madison: Maybe you should go with her.

Ryan: She said she's ok. I'm gonna take her word for it.

[Elevator stops]

Greenlee: Come on. Come on, come on, come on. [Sighs]

Erica: [Applauds] Bravo, Greenlee. Very well done.

Greenlee: You're --

Erica: Looking pretty damn good for someone who passed on.

Greenlee: This is in my head. You're not real.

Erica: I have so enjoyed watching you. I've enjoyed watching you squirm. I mean, that thing you just said to Ryan? That was pretty childish. But I just loved your speech on the web -- playing the part of the fearless leader of Fusion. So sincere, very impressive. But your shoes, not so much.

Greenlee: You are not real.

Erica: Do you honestly think you'll get away with it? The man going over your books, he's just the beginning of your nightmare. Oh, what's the matter, Greenlee? Are you a little claustrophobic?

Greenlee: Get away from me.

Erica: Oh, there's enough air in here for a while. Are you feeling trapped in here? Well, just wait till you get to your prison cell.

Greenlee: I am not going to prison.

Erica: Of course, you are -- just as soon as your husband turns on you, makes you take the fall for everything.

Greenlee: David loves me.

Erica: He loves himself more. I mean, if he has to choose between his freedom and yours, you're going down. You're going all the way down.

Greenlee: You know something? You're just as annoying dead as you are --

[Erica disappears]

[Elevator doors open]

Erica: I'm just gonna sit here for a minute, and I'm gonna warm up, and then I'm gonna go. Mudslides, infections -- none of it scares me half as much as spending another minute here with you.

Caleb: You're scared of me? Why?

Erica: You almost shot someone. Maybe it's how you get your kicks. You drag women up here and get them all dependent on you, and then you feed off their helplessness and their fear and -- aah! Oh, no, don't! Stop it! Stop it! Get off of me! Get off of me!

Scott: Planting that story on Annie was cruel.

J.R.: As long as that woman has got you by the stones, Chandler's in danger, which means I'll keep coming.

Scott: Oh, you are so damn transparent! You --

[Marissa walks out of the room]

Scott: You can't have Annie, so you don't want me to have her either.

J.R.: Annie? Annie makes me sick.

Scott: No. No, what makes you sick is knowing that I am going to end up with everything that you want -- Chandler, your father's respect, his wife.

J.R.: Hmm. You're a joke.

Scott: I'm a joke? These attacks on Annie, your pathetic attempts to get into my way -- they are all gonna blow up in your face, little cousin, and cost you the one person who still gives a damn about you.

Annie: Do you have any idea what your husband did to me?

Marissa: I read the blog. Did you?

Annie: Of course.

Marissa: Well, tell me, Annie, what part of it wasn't true? What J.R. did to you is nothing compared to what I'll do if you ever touch him again.

Annie: I feel so, so sorry for you. Because you know no matter how hard you try, J.R. is still obsessed with me.

Jack: Erica, it's Jack again. Look, the guy from the S.E.C. is at Fusion right now. I need you to come home. I'd like to give you ultimatums, but if you're not back here by Jake and Amanda's wedding, I'm gonna come after you, and this time I'm not gonna stop until I find you.

Erica: Let go of me! Let me go! Get off of me! Get off!

Caleb: Hey! See that? Your blanket was on fire. I was just trying to put it out. Huh?

Erica: Don't you ever touch me again.

Caleb: You know what? You're not my prisoner here. You can leave anytime you want. Do us both a favor. Sorry for trying to save your life.

Erica: I'm going back to that plane wreckage, and I'm sure that I can find something -- a radio, a flare, maybe my cell phone! Anything, anything that will keep me the hell away from you.

Caleb: [Looking up] Thank you.

[Music plays at ConFusion]

[Greenlee gasps when David touches her back]

David: Hey. I'm sorry you're so stressed out. I'm sorry for the stress I've caused you. I'm gonna make it right, Greenlee. We're partners. I should've trusted that. I should've trusted what we have.

Greenlee: I'm not going anywhere, David.

David: I'm sorry. I am so sorry.

Singer: Best thing I ever had take me back
