Ryan: I wasn't there when you lost our baby, and I should have been there. If I could go lost, it's -- it's too much. And going back there now, it's still too much.
Ryan: Yeah, I -- I didn't mean to stir all that up again.
Greenlee: It always happens, though, doesn't it? Whenever I'm with you, I always feel -- too much. Sorry. I don't even know why I just said that.
Ryan: It's ok.
Greenlee: I just, you know, needed to be honest, I guess.
Ryan: Greenlee -- I feel the same way whenever I'm with you.
Madison: Ryan is a good man. I won't be part of anything that hurts him.
David: This isn't about hurting Ryan, it's about helping you. Your freedom, your future. You make the right choice, the sky's the limit. You make the wrong choice --
Madison: You try to rip my life apart? But you're assuming that I have something to hide. Something that would actually land me behind bars.
David: Yeah, I'm pretty sure murder would do that.
Madison: You want to dig? Go ahead.
David: Are you testing me, Madison? Turning me down?
Madison: My father abused me. My husband abused me. I can take whatever you throw at me.
David: What's up?
Liza: Well, I just found out another very interesting fact about Madison North.
David: I'm all ears.
Krystal: Marissa? Honey, what's wrong? What? What happened? [Sighs]
Tad: That the pizza guy?
Krystal: No, it's Marissa.
Tad: Oh, good, you're just in time for dinner. What happened, honey?
Marissa: He slept with Annie. J.R. slept with Annie.
Annie: You drugged me? Who the hell do you think you are? You lure me to a hotel, you lie to me, you knock me out? You could have killed me!
J.R.: My marriage is over.
Annie: Boo flipping hoo.
J.R.: All I wanted was you out of my father's life. And now, I've lost my father and my wife.
Annie: What are you doing?
J.R.: My God. I hate you.
Annie: Get -- [Gasps] Get your hands off me.
J.R.: How do you like it, Annie? You see, this is where you've had me for weeks -- up against the wall, threatening to tell Marissa.
Annie: So what? So you caved? Did you get big tears in your eyes? Did you beg forgiveness?
J.R.: You disgust me. No. It had to be done. I wasn't going to let it come from your mouth.
Annie: I know how to keep my mouth shut, as long as I get what I want. So, now that Marissa's gone --
J.R.: Oh, you got to be kidding me.
Annie: Mm-hmm, you want me still.
J.R.: Oh, like hell.
Annie: See, there -- that -- that look -- that's the same look that you gave me in the hotel room.
J.R.: Oh, the one before I drugged you?
Annie: Exactly. See, that's what's so hot about us, J.R. I never know whether you want to kill me or make love to me.
J.R.: Oh, you're so sick.
Annie: No, I'm honest. It's about time you be honest, too. There's something between us, J.R., something I have never felt, and something you have never felt. It is beyond our control. All we have to do is give in.
J.R.: You know, you must be out of your pretty little head if you think I'd ever touch you again.
Marissa: How many times did I walk in on him and Annie and feel some weird vibe? J.R. would just explain it away. And he said that he hated her. And when Adam left, he wanted to throw her out. I insisted she stay. I defended her. Oh, my God! I wanted us to be friends! I mean, I told her I wanted us to be like sisters. My God, she must have been laughing.
Krystal: Do not beat yourself up for being a decent person.
Marissa: Decent? I was stupid. And you know what kills me is A.J. I mean, he just got his father home from almost dying. His grandfather's gone, and now I'm gone.
Krystal: All right, look, you are going to see plenty of A.J. right here.
Tad: Sure. I mean, you can stay in my room.
Marissa: Thank you.
Krystal: I'm so sorry.
[Knock on door]
Krystal: I'm so sorry.
Scott: Hey. Is Marissa -- thank you. I wanted to make sure you were ok.
Marissa: Am I ok? You lied to my face.
David: It's very bold of you to turn me down so quickly. It doesn't take a world-renowned cardiologist to put all the dots together. I mean, after all, your husband did die in an "accident," right?
Madison: In Washington, D.C. I was here. And this investigation's been closed for a long time.
David: So you're pretty confident no one can place you in Washington the day of the murder, is that it?
Madison: Well, I suppose you could always pay someone to lie for you, like you did to get Greenlee's death certificate.
David: No payoff necessary. Jesse Hubbard will make sure the witness is legitimate. Now, he was part of the investigation, wasn't he?
Madison: I guess.
David: Well, then I guess all I have to do is talk to him.
Madison: You're wasting your time.
David: That might be true. But then again, if I start asking a lot of pesky questions, and start getting answers to those questions -- this is your last chance, Madison. Don't be a fool. This is your life we're talking about here.
Ryan: I'll admit, this -- the possibility that you're pregnant with David's child --
Greenlee: You hate it. You accused me of marrying David because I was afraid of you. Is that what you think now? I get pregnant with David's child, because I'm scared of you? It's just another way to punish you? Push you away, hurt you?
Ryan: I know what it would mean to you to be able to carry this baby to term. I know you wouldn't use that. You've already lost -- so much. If you are pregnant, I don't give a damn who the father is. I wish you could carry the baby to term. You deserve that kind of happiness.
Greenlee: It's probably just a bug. I shouldn't have said anything.
Ryan: No, I'm glad you did. I am. Look, we agreed to live separate lives, but it doesn't mean that we just completely ignore our history. You know, and what we mean to each other. Just -- just tell me what I can do.
Greenlee: Can we just not talk about this anymore?
Ryan: We need to talk about it. We have to talk about it, Greenlee. We got to figure out a way that we can be around each other -- that doesn't destroy us.
Annie: You really thought telling Marissa the truth would make things better? Really? How stupid are you? I mean, even Saint Marissa would go ballistic, finding out husband dearest has been boffing his hot stepmom.
J.R.: You shut the hell up.
Annie: Hey, I'm just stating the facts. Oh, yeah -- I restocked the bar. Mmm. A drink would be so good right now, wouldn't it? Oof. Yeah. But you wouldn't do that. I mean, you have way too much to live for. Huh. Now that Marissa's gone, you don't really have that much to live for, do you? Oh, hey, you have A.J.
J.R.: You're a bitch.
Annie: Yeah, and you want me, and you hate it.
J.R.: No, I hate you! I told Marissa sleeping with you was a mistake. It was an accident, because I was just trying to prove to my father that you can't be trusted. The truth was, I wanted you.
Annie: So you lied? Even about telling the truth?
J.R.: No, I was too ashamed to hurt my wife over trash like you! You greedy, manipulating -- I can't even believe I touched you.
Annie: Huh, because I was fun?
J.R.: Now, Marissa never thought of herself. You know, she never played games to try to get what she thought that she deserved. She just loved. And I killed it. I lost her.
Scott: I'm sorry.
Marissa: Sorry? Sorry? I came to you as a friend. As the one person who I knew would not lie to me, and you -- you lied.
Scott: Sweetie, I didn't want to hurt you.
Marissa: You -- you protected J.R. and Annie. You covered for them.
Scott: I know. I mean, you are the one person in all of this who doesn't deserve to get hurt.
Marissa: Oh, what, because I'm so great?
Scott: Yes. I want to help you, Marissa, in any way that I can.
Marissa: Well, you can leave then. Get the hell out.
David: Now, it's not like I'm asking you to seduce a troll. Apparently, for whatever reason, women find Ryan attractive. You like the man, right? You get along. So just think of this as the next step in your relationship. And who knows? You and Ryan might fall in love someday. Hey, you can name your first kid after me.
Madison: Love? Is that what you and Greenlee have? Because I cannot imagine any woman, especially a woman as strong as Greenlee, being able to stomach, let alone love, someone as possessive and paranoid as you are.
David: This is about saving my marriage.
Madison: Well, if you have to go to this kind of extreme, it's not going to work.
David: Great. Words of advice from the woman whose idea of ending her marriage is to kill her husband.
Madison: You play this dark, scary, all-powerful master of the universe, but you know what? I think the truth is that you're just a frightened, jealous little man who knows that he doesn't have what it takes to hang onto his wife.
David: You might want to lose the attitude, sweetheart.
Madison: Or what? You really want to threaten a woman that you believe is capable of cold-blooded murder?
David: You have 24 hours.
Ryan: So you think you're ready for something a little stronger than just water?
Greenlee: You know, I think we just do our business deal and head back to Pine Valley. And when we see each other, we smile, we nod, and we move on.
Ryan: Yeah. Well, that might work for some people, but -- have you ever noticed how we're right there for each other when we're really needed?
Greenlee: Unless one of us runs away.
Ryan: Yeah, we've run. But we always come back. One of us is in a tough spot and the other one's right there. Do you remember when I found out that that bastard that raised me was actually my father? Remember how much rage and anger and hate there was in me and -- it didn't faze you at all, did it? You just stuck right by me. You made me -- you made me realize that I wasn't like him. I wasn't like him or my older brother. And if you hadn't been there, I honestly think things would be very, very different.
Greenlee: All I did was remind you what a good man you are. After Leo died, when I was ready to take off my ring, it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. And you made me realize that I didn't die with him. Besides, who else would marry someone just to make sure she stays part of her own company?
Ryan: Yeah, well, you know, you can be kind of irresistible. I mean, you know, in a completely platonic kind of way.
Ryan: [Laughs] You see, we've been friends for such a long time. We were friends before we were in love, before we were married. I guess we have a connection. And yes, a lot has changed. A lot has happened. We've changed. But the connection is still there, Greenlee. And I guess we could, you know, ignore it and pass each other on the street like polite strangers. Or we could try to find a way to honor it. To accept that we're part of each other and that we always will be.
Greenlee: Can you do that?
Ryan: I think I already have. Can you?
Annie: So? What happens now?
J.R.: Oh, always worried about yourself. Where you're going to land. Well, don't worry. I'll make sure you get exactly what you deserve.
Annie: Go ahead. Just try to make my life a living hell. I am warning you, I will do whatever it takes to protect myself.
J.R.: Yeah, well, you just make sure you do it far away from here!
A.J.: Daddy -- I miss Mommy Marissa.
J.R.: So do I. So do I, pal.
Krystal: Damn that J.R. I know how much you love him.
Krystal: And he loves you, too.
Krystal: No, listen, I am not making excuses for him. But J.R. is just -- he's the kind of guy that just can't seem to handle having love, accepting happiness. I mean, just when he finds himself on top of the world, he manages to throw himself into orbit. And somebody gets hurt. This time, it's you. And that little boy.
Marissa: Oh, God, I hate what this is doing to A.J. It just makes me want to scream.
Krystal: No, you know what? No, you have devoted everything you are to A.J. and to J.R. I mean, come on. You were the one who got him through his cancer.
Marissa: Oh, yeah. Well, we have Annie to thank for that.
Krystal: No. No. You. You and A.J. were the reason J.R. wanted to live. Honey, you put everything on hold to help get that man back up on his feet.
Krystal: [Sighs] You know what? I think it's time you started loving yourself just as much. Sweetie, you are so beautiful, and you are smart and talented. If you move forward with your law career, I'm telling you, you are going to be a force.
Marissa: No, I can't think much past getting up in the morning.
Marissa: God, I remember when my future was J.R. The family we wanted, the life. I hate what he's done, but I still love him.
Madison: I need to get out of town.
Randi: Greenlee's out of the country. You're her go-to person. You can't just get up and go on vacation.
Madison: Look, I need you to cover for me. Ok, these are pre-orders and some distribution contracts. They need Greenlee's signature.
Randi: I work for Erica, in case you forgot, so the answer is no.
Madison: Randi, please. I don't know how long I'm going to be gone, and I don't want to leave Greenlee in the lurch here.
Randi: Then don't go.
Madison: I don't have a choice.
Randi: What's going on?
Madison: It's personal. All right, Randi? Just, please, tell me you'll do this for me.
Randi: Give me one good reason why I should put myself on the line to cover for you.
Madison: Because leaving is the only way that I can protect you and your family.
Greenlee: Cracker? [Chuckles] Um, this proves one thing.
Ryan: What's that? I'm hungry?
Greenlee: Mm-hmm. Since I've come back -- you know, since I've been back, sometimes, you've been acting like a grown-up, and I've been acting like a child.
Ryan: Except maybe when I kidnapped you.
Greenlee: Well, it was a very adult kidnapping, though. You were rational and reasonable. You just wanted me to listen, and I was free to go.
Ryan: And don't forget the cupcake.
Greenlee: Mmm. The cupcake was very good. Thank you.
Ryan: For what?
Greenlee: For making me realize it was time to grow up. Take a breath. Do what I need to do. And that includes Kendall. I mean, I'm still furious, but after I had time to cool down, I realize you're right. She didn't deliberately try to kill me. And I can deal with this. Pregnant or not pregnant, I can handle it.
Ryan: Of course, you can.
Ryan: You ok?
Greenlee: Actually, I feel a lot better. I'm probably not pregnant at all. It's probably just my imagination. You know how it can run amok.
Ryan: Yes, I do. I know very well how your mind works.
David: Come on, Greenlee. Pick up the damn phone.
Greenlee: It's David. I want to be grown-up, but right now, I can't talk to David. Not yet.
David: Look, just call me when you get this, all right? I'm starting to get worried.
Liza: Good news. I have got the final docs for you right here, signed, sealed, and delivered. Congratulations. You are now Pine Valley Hospital's largest shareholder.
David: That's good.
Liza: I expected a little more enthusiasm than that. Does it have something to do with Madison North just flying by me there at 80 miles an hour?
David: We had a meeting.
Liza: "Meeting"? Uh, do I even want to know what you are doing with the information that I gave you?
David: Nope, you don't.
Liza: I thought you'd have your hands full with your new wife. Any updates from Rio?
David: I'm on my way there now.
Liza: Really? What -- what changed your mind?
David: Well, their meeting -- it can't take much longer, so I thought I'd go down and enjoy Brazil with my wife.
Liza: "Their" meeting, as in "they"? What --
David: Greenlee went with Ryan.
Liza: Really? Ryan and Greenlee are in Rio? And how did you let that happen?
David: It's perfectly innocent, Liza.
David: Strictly business.
Liza: Right, which is why you're racing down there?
David: No. When I spoke to Greenlee earlier, she didn't sound like herself. And now she's not picking up. Something is going on down there, and I'm going to find out what the hell it is.
Ryan: [Speaking Portuguese] Sim absolutamente. Antecipamolo. Tchau.
Greenlee: Is that language you were mangling Portuguese?
Ryan: Actually, there may have been some Italian in there, but yes, the meeting is on.
Greenlee: Well -- or was that Solana telling us to take a flying leap? I mean, you would know the difference, right?
Ryan: That's very, very, very, very funny. Now why don't you let me handle the meeting, ok? You stay here. Rest, take care of yourself.
Greenlee: I came here to negotiate. There's no way I'm going to sit in a hotel room while you have all the fun.
Greenlee: Wow. You caved so easily.
Ryan: Well, I may not be bilingual, but you don't understand "no" in any language.
Liza: There's only two outcomes here, David. You know that, right? You're either going to show up there and you're going to find out that nothing's going on between Ryan and Greenlee, and you are going to look like an obsessive, possessive jerk. Or you're going to find out that something is going on between them, and you're going to end up killing Ryan. And then I'm going to have to defend you all over again. And not even my brilliant self could get you off this time. Besides that, I mean, thanks to you, I've got no room in my schedule to take on a loser jealous husband murder case.
David: Ok, I have every reason to suspect Ryan's motives.
Liza: Ok. All right, listen. I got a little idea, ok? Why don't you play "The Girl from Ipanema" and dance the bossa nova and pretend that you went? And then when Greenlee comes home, give her a big hug and tell her that you missed her. Marriage saved.
Liza: I'll send you my bill. Extra $500 for marriage counseling.
[Zips briefcase closed]
Liza: Liza Colby. Yeah. No, I can fit you in my schedule. B.J.'s will work. I'll see you there. That was your daughter.
David: Why does she want to meet with you?
Liza: I don't know. I'm going to go find out, though.
David: Well, I'm coming with you.
Randi: I mean, what could possibly be so horrible that you feel you'd need to leave to protect us?
Madison: David Hayward knows -- well, he doesn't know, but he's pretty sure that I killed Henry. And if he pushes this -- if they reopen this investigation, even if I wanted to, I couldn't go down with this by myself. I was back in Pine Valley when you and Jesse were pushing Henry's car over that cliff. I mean, they're going to know that other people were involved.
Randi: No, no! This cannot be happening. This is supposed to be behind us! What did you do, Madison? Why is David all over this?
Madison: What matters is that he won't find out. I won't let him hurt your family. You don't trust me. I get that. But I got to get out of town. I got to get somewhere where David is never going to find me. Time will pass. He'll forget about this.
Randi: Running is the absolute worst thing that you could do.
Marissa: What are you doing here?
David: Look, I hope you don't mind. I was with Liza when you called.
Liza: Yeah. Have you ever tried saying "no" to your father?
David: All right, look, I promise I'm not going to interfere, ok? I was just hoping that after you conclude your business with Liza, that I -- I might be able to persuade you to come have dinner with me. Unless you have to get back to J.R.
Marissa: I was hoping that I could get my old job back.
Liza: Well, of course. I mean, I could certainly use the help. But I thought you had a full load of courses. With J.R. and A.J.
Marissa: Um -- I left J.R.
David: Why? What happened?
Marissa: He cheated on me, with Annie.
David: That son of a bitch.
Liza: I can't believe that Annie -- so she slept with J.R. and Scott?
Marissa: No, just J.R. Scott lied to protect him.
David: I'm going to kill him.
Marissa: No, David, don't. You'll just make things worse. Please. David -- oh -- David, don't!
Tad: What the hell were you thinking? You just survived cancer. You get your life back. Have a chance to make it all over again with Marissa, with A.J., and this is the best you can do? You sleep with Annie?
J.R.: The look on Marissa's face -- and A.J. -- he doesn't understand why Marissa's not going to be around to tuck him in. Can you actually believe that I thought deep down that when I told Marissa, that she would forgive me? She would be angry with me, but she would forgive me?
Tad: J.R., Marissa's a lot of things. She's -- she's -- you know, she's a saint. She's an angel. But the fact is that even angels can only take so much.
J.R.: Yeah, well, she's too good for me. You know my track record. I would end up hurting her sooner or later. She deserves better.
Tad: Don't you say that. Don't you ever say that.
J.R.: Then tell me -- how the hell am I supposed to manage my life without her?
Annie: Your office said you would be here.
Liza: Ok, note to self -- tell them to stop broadcasting my whereabouts.
Annie: I need your help.
Liza: Of course, you do, but I work for Adam now, so I can't help you.
Annie: All right, your advice then?
Liza: I would have advised you not to sleep with J.R., for starters.
Annie: You know? Oh, great. That's great. Now everybody in this town's going to know, and I'll be made out to be the bad guy, again.
Liza: You slept with your stepson. Your married stepson.
Annie: He seduced me.
Liza: Yeah, listen, as fascinating as all this is, I'm pretty much out of advice, so --
Annie: I accept.
Liza: What do you accept?
Annie: Adam's terms for the divorce.
Liza: Oh --
Annie: J.R.'s going to be making my life a living hell, and I'm going to need money to get a new place and survive, so call Adam and tell him I accept.
Liza: No, it's too late.
Annie: What do you mean, it's too late? I'm here. I'm -- I'm ready to sign. What's the problem?
Liza: You waited too long. Adam's taken the offer off the table.
Greenlee: [Laughs] How much fun was that?
Ryan: You were uma estrela, menina bela. Parabens.
Greenlee: Parabens back to you.
Ryan: Thank you very much.
Ryan: Thank you, thank you. I'm just glad that you got the rights to your packaging back.
Greenlee: Yes! Fusion Natural's back on track. Game on, Erica. We should celebrate. Champagne? Maybe not.
Ryan: Got another idea. I mean, you said we bought it, right, because you didn't want to wait? Are you ready to find out?
Randi: You think that if you just vanish, David is going to move on to wrecking other people's lives? All you're going to do is piss him off. He will be out for blood, and he will keep digging until he gets what he needs to make you bleed. And when he does and when you go down --
Madison: Does he really hate your family that much?
Randi: Angie and Jesse have busted his craziness more than once. He would love nothing more than to see Jesse in jail and Angie gone from the hospital for good.
Madison: I can't let that happen.
Randi: I don't think that you can stop it.
Madison: There is a way.
Randi: Go ahead.
Madison: Don't worry. Just know that we don't have to involve Angie or Jesse in this, all right?
Randi: Madison, you can't take on David alone.
Madison: I know you've never had any reason to believe anything that I say, but I promise, I'll make this go away.
Annie: No, no, no -- I need this settlement.
Annie: You have to call Adam and tell him that I accept.
Liza: You had your chance. When you didn't respond to Adam, he assumed that you wanted to contest it in court.
Annie: But I -- I don't.
Liza: I would suggest that you lawyer up. I'll see you in court.
Annie: Oh, my God. Excuse me, can I have a martini, please? A really, really strong, strong, strong, strong martini. Oh, my God.
Scott: Hi. Drinking alone?
Annie: What? What, what, what do you want? Are you here to yell at me and then make me feel like a horrible human being like everybody else?
Scott: I think that's all been covered.
Scott: What's the plan, Annie?
Annie: The plan? The plan was to accept Adam's divorce settlement. Now it's too late. I waited too long, and I have to go to court.
Annie: This is so unfair. I mean, I fought -- I have fought so hard to be part of Adam's life and part of this family, and now --
Scott: Sleeping with his son kind of limited your options.
Annie: That's not fair. I have done so much for that family, and I make one mistake, and I'm considered trash. Oh, God.
Scott: Ok, instead of feeling sorry for yourself -- look at me -- think about what you've done to Marissa, huh? And A.J. She defended you. She wanted to be your friend.
Annie: And I -- slept with her husband. [Sighs]
Annie: Marissa, I just want you to know I am really sorr --
[Annie gasps as Marissa throws a cold drink in her face]
J.R.: What do you want? Son of a --
[David punches J.R.]
Tad: Just what we need -- the voice of calm and reason!
David: Yeah! Exactly right! And I'm just getting started. This bastard broke Marissa's heart, just like he did Babe's!
J.R.: Get out.
David: You were almost dying. Marissa stood by your side. She was an amazing mother to your son. She was an amazing wife, and this is how you treat her? By having sex with stepmom?
Tad: That's enough. That's enough.
David: No. You go rot in hell. And I'm going to do everything in my power to get you there!
Tad: He should rot in hell? He should rot in hell? You slept with my wife! You ripped up my family. Now you're going to tear him a new one?
David: Oh, wait, wait -- you're kidding, right? You're going to defend him? You know that Marissa doesn't deserve this! You've got to know that!
Tad: Marissa? Marissa who? What, your daughter? You mean the one you spent the entire last year ignoring? That Marissa? You think because you tear in here, your fists are flying, because you want to protect her, that makes you a good father? Hayward, you're a joke. It's time for you to leave.
David: You stay the hell away from my daughter. You stay the hell away from her!
Greenlee: Actually, I won't be needing that anymore. I feel great. Fine, actually. Completely back to normal. Obviously, it was a false alarm.
Ryan: Are you sure? I mean, it can't hurt just to --
Greenlee: I'm just good as new. Better, even. We should pack and go home. Won't need this. [Drops the pregnancy test into her purse]
Tad: [Laughs] You sure know how to screw up. I got to tell you. I should know. I've been there. Whether or not Marissa comes back to you, you got a son who needs you. Right?
J.R.: You think I'm going to start drinking again?
Tad: Well, let's just say I know how important A.J. is to you.
J.R.: I lost my father. I've lost my wife. I'm not going to lose myself. I love my son, and I'm going to be the best father I can be. That's a promise.
Annie: I totally deserved that. Ahem. Wait -- wait, Marissa, I am -- I really want to apologize.
Annie: You've been so kind to me, and you let us stay in the mansion. Emma and I would have been on the street if it weren't for you.
Marissa: Yeah, and you ended up in bed with my husband.
Annie: I -- I really never meant to hurt you.
Marissa: Well, what did you mean to do, Annie? Did you mean to rip apart a family? Did you mean to bring us all to tears? Did you -- did you mean to sink even lower than you already have?
Annie: Oh, I thought apologies were supposed to make you feel better.
Scott: No. No, Annie, you don't apologize to feel better. You apologize so the other person doesn't feel quite so bad.
Madison: I'll do it.
Greenlee: You know, thank you for your concern, but it was probably just a scare. Actually, I'm sure of it.
Ryan: Well, as long as you're sure.
Greenlee: Thank you. You know, for everything. You were right. The only way to move forward is to acknowledge what we had, not ignore it -- go from there.
Ryan: I better finish packing.
Greenlee: Ryan -- if you ever -- if you need something someday -- someone to talk to -- I hope I can be there for you like you were for me.
Ryan: All I did was supply the crackers.
[Greenlee gives Ryan a kiss on the cheek]
Greenlee: Thank you.
