Amanda's voice: I don't know if you're ignoring me or if your phone's off, or -- Jake, I don't know how to fix this if you won't talk to me. Just please call me.
David: I'm gonna need you to pull another shift. Dr. Hudson had to take off. Something to do with her son at school.
David: Is there a problem, Doctor?
Jake: No. Just, uh, swamp me out here at the hospital, right? This way I'll never get to spend any time with Amanda. Does that -- is that your plan?
David: Well, you've kept your distance from Amanda without any help from me. Your brother disqualified us from the marathon after you left. Amanda was very disappointed. But then again, I think she's getting used to it.
Krystal: How's Trevor?
Amanda: He's fine. He's sleeping. Have you seen Jake?
Krystal: He's miserable, Amanda. He thinks he's lost you.
Amanda: He walked out. We could have had the whole night together.
Krystal: On David's terms.
Amanda: I don't even know what that means -- "on David's terms." I'm not David's prisoner. He let me see Jake, but Jake left.
Krystal: "He let me see Jake." Are you listening to yourself? All right, look. I'll watch the baby. Go to Jake, ok? And talk to him.
Amanda: David's gonna be back any minute.
Krystal: I'll deal with David.
Amanda: What are you gonna do?
Krystal: Whatever it takes. Whatever it takes to make him let you go.
Adam: How does freedom feel?
Annie: I love knowing that my next court date is never.
Adam: I'll be right back.
Annie: Ah, and the best part, thank goodness -- no more ankle monitor. Thank goodness. That thing was not cute.
Scott: Congrats, Annie. You got everything you wanted.
Annie: Not everything.
Zach: Annie got what she wanted. So did we.
Kendall: Well, you better hope your good friend Liza doesn't get what she wants, or we're both in big trouble.
Zach: What's that supposed to mean?
Kendall: Liza went to the prison, but not to hold off Willis. She went there to sell me out.
Zach: Liza wouldn't do that.
Kendall: How do you know?
Zach: I know.
Kendall: You think she still loves you, so she wouldn't betray you by turning me in. Zach, a woman who wants you and can't have you is a woman capable of anything. Trust me, you're looking at one.
Liza: The woman who's gonna walk through that door is not who you are expecting.
D.A. Willis: Talk fast, Miss Colby.
Liza: Well, Kendall is -- well, she isn't herself. Being isolated and being locked up -- it's taken a toll on her. She left me this crazy message saying that the cell was shrinking and the walls were talking to her.
D.A. Willis: Really? And what did the walls have to say?
Liza: Well, enough for her to back off her innocent plea. But Kendall Slater is a woman on the brink. You question her now, you're gonna push her right over the edge. What kind of D.A. wants that on his resume? Or his conscience?
D.A. Willis: The kind that wins cases.
[The hair trimmer buzzes]
J.R.: It's ok. Go ahead.
[Marissa begins shaving off J.R.'s hair]
Amanda: I'm not leaving until you tell me your plans for David.
Krystal: I remember how David took me in -- took care of me, made it really easy to fall for him. But with David it's not love, it's -- it's something dark and addictive. So my plan is to, um, work that angle. Now will you go and find Jake?
Amanda: You're going to seduce David?
Krystal: I'm not gonna jump in bed with him, but if I can get him to focus on me, then it'll give you the space to fix your marriage and to figure out what's next with Jake and Trevor.
Amanda: I'm only here because I want to be with my son, you know, instead of locked up in prison with Jake, because that's where we'd be.
Krystal: If not for the mercy of David? You know, this whole living arrangement was not by invitation. This was an ultimatum. This was -- this is "Beauty and the Beast." This is classic "Beauty and the Beast."
Amanda: No, it's not, Krystal.
Krystal: I have seen the DVD with Jenny too many times to not know what I'm talking about here.
Amanda: I may be locked up in his castle, but I am not falling for David.
Krystal: You can't, because David will always be a beast, and your prince is across town right now nursing a broken heart.
Jake: I -- I can't pull another shift, ok? Because if I do that I'd be compromising my patients. And I'd also be working on three hours of sleep.
David: Well, I guess it's a good thing you're not living with a baby then, because three hours sleep is a luxury these days.
Jake: Well, no, you're just gonna have to get Angie to do it. She's coming in soon. She can cover Hudson's patients. You know, I know what you're doing. You're just -- you're just waiting for Amanda to give up on our marriage, right?
David: I'll tell you what -- why don't you speed things along? Just keep ignoring her calls. Thanks, Jake.
Annie: So, champagne first?
Adam: It's already chilling. Sit, sit.
Annie: I was thinking -- we should take the jet and go somewhere fabulous, someplace really romantic.
Adam: How about Paris?
Annie: I was thinking Paris.
Scott: Too bad you're not allowed to leave town.
Adam: Oh, yeah, that's right. Well, just wait six months, and we're out of here.
Annie: Will you go check on the champagne for me?
Adam: Mais oui, mademoiselle.
Annie: Ooh, French. I love it. And I love you.
[Adam walks out of the room]
Annie: Why can't you just be happy for me? I'm trying to have a moment here.
Scott: Yeah, I'm -- I'm wondering how much your moment's gonna cost my uncle.
Annie: A very wise judge thinks that I am ready to rejoin society.
Scott: A very well paid judge.
Annie: And Ryan actually agrees with him, which is shocking. Were you surprised when he came to the courthouse today?
Scott: He had a right to be there.
Annie: I knew it. I knew it was you. You told him. So did you know that he was gonna stand up for me like that, or were as shocked as I was? Either way I guess I owe you a big thank you.
Scott: Save it, Annie.
Annie: So, I'm gonna have a maid pack up your things.
Scott: Excuse me?
Annie: Well, there's really no need for you to stay here any longer. Adam only asked you to move in for my protection.
Scott: I'm staying -- for his.
[Marissa finishes shaving J.R.'s head]
J.R.: How do I look?
Marissa: Hot. How does it feel?
J.R.: A little chilly.
Marissa: I'll knit you some kickass hats.
J.R.: Oh, you knit?
Marissa: Yeah. I'm a regular domestic Goddess.
J.R.: You lie.
Marissa: I bake, ok? We'll go hat shopping.
Marissa: You ok?
J.R.: Yeah. I think so.
Marissa: Do you want to look? I mean, you don't have to.
J.R.: Yeah, I'll look.
D.A. Willis: I'm here to see inmate Slater whether she's nuts or not.
Liza: Yeah, I think you need to reconsider.
D.A. Willis: No, you petitioned my office for a retrial, Miss Colby. I'm just following up.
Liza: Ok, so just let me talk to her first.
D.A. Willis: Miss Colby --
Liza: Just considering her fragile state, please, let me prep her.
D.A. Willis: I'll be right outside.
Liza: Mm-hmm. Kendall, Zach sent me. I'm Kendall Slater's lawyer, and I know you're not her. Ok, so the D.A. is outside. He can't see you, obviously. We have to work together.
Kendall Double: No. I'm done. I want out.
Zach: She's not picking up.
Kendall: Probably turned off her phone. Liza does not want to be talked out of sending me to prison.
Zach: You're wrong.
Kendall: She wants you there, too.
Zach: What does that mean?
Kendall: Zach, she's furious about this whole thing. I talked to her before, and if she can't have you, she's gonna make damn sure no one else can. What exactly happened at that dance marathon? I won't flip out. I promise.
Zach: I told her she deserved better. She didn't need a man with baggage.
Kendall: You called me "baggage"?
Zach: No, I didn't call you "baggage." It was, you know, baggage -- with stuff.
Kendall: I don't understand. What kind of baggage?
Zach: Enough of -- it's not about the baggage. I said no. What did you want me to say?
Kendall: I don't know. I think you should have said that you were madly in love with me, that I'm the only woman for you, and no matter how much I drive you crazy, which I know is a lot, that you still love me best, that you'll stop at nothing to save me, whether it means going to prison or saving me from a pack of hungry wolves. I don't know. That you'll do anything to hold me and make love to me and be my best friend and family forever. That's what you should have said.
J.R.: You know, I can't pretend like everything's normal anymore. Every time I look in the mirror all I see is a sick man.
Marissa: I see a brave one.
J.R.: No. Brave guys run into burning buildings while everyone else is running out, and they save lives. Bravery is when you choose to risk your life. I'm just fighting to hold onto mine, and -- you know, never mind. I'm not making any sense.
Marissa: No, you are. Hey, you are. I remember everyone told me how brave I was after my parents died. It's like, what were my options? I had to get up and go to work, keep living, even though everything felt different.
J.R.: Everything is different now. One good change is you.
Marissa: You could have run.
J.R.: From the cancer?
Marissa: No, from this. From you and me. You didn't have to let me in.
J.R.: I'm gonna be sick.
[J.R. runs to the bathroom]
Krystal: This kinder, gentler David is not gonna stick around for very long, and when he checks out, and you realize what the real David has done to your life, you are gonna be mortified. Oh, my God, Amanda, it just drives me nuts that you don't listen.
Amanda: I think that this is more about you than me. No offense.
Krystal: Ah. No, it isn't. You know, if David really cared about making this work, he never, ever would have made you choose between your husband and your child. Jake -- and Tad, too -- they're good people, something that David will never be, and I think he just -- he hates that. He is so damaged he will never be able to love anybody the same way, the same selfless way that Jake loves you.
Amanda: Then why won't he see me?
Krystal: Because -- because, honey, seeing you under David's terms with David's blessing -- come on, that's like asking Jake to roll the dice in a game that he just cannot win. And he can't lose you.
Annie: Can't you just go somewhere? You are ruining my homecoming.
Scott: Adam is nothing to you but a means to an end, is he? Moving to the big house -- check. Snag a marriage proposal -- check. Buy your way out of jail -- check. What's next after the wedding, Annie? Hmm? You revise his will? Give him a new heir? Didn't he promise you custody of Emma, too?
Annie: Because he believes in me. You used to. What happened? I really hope you don't plan on helping Ryan keep Emma from me. That would be a big, big mistake.
Adam: Ah, a toast for my fiancée.
Annie: Oh! I'll pour.
Adam: Now, wait, wait, wait. I have something for you.
Annie: Adam, you didn't have to.
Adam: I had it made special, knowing this day would come.
Annie: It's beautiful.
Adam: Well, I couldn't have you running around with a naked ankle. Read the inscription.
Annie: "My angel." It's perfect. Thank you. I am the luckiest girl in the world.
Adam: Ah, yes.
Liza: Listen, I understand your situation, and I also understand that you're being paid handsomely.
Kendall Double: I don't care. I don't care how good-looking this Slater guy is either. I can't use his money in here.
Liza: Yeah? How about a bonus?
Kendall Double: It may make me feel better.
Liza: All right, I'll get back to you with a number.
Kendall Double: Um, you said the D.A.'s right outside?
Liza: You know what you're doing in here -- impersonating a convicted felon. It is illegal. You rat out my client, you're gonna be sharing a cell with your look-alike. Do we have an understanding?
Kendall Double: Do we have a number?
Liza: A hundred thousand.
Kendall Double: What do I have to do?
Liza: Go ape in front of the D.A.
Liza: Get her out of here! Get her to a clinic where she can get some help.
Liza: That -- that is what I was afraid of. You know, her well-being should be the court's priority. Andrew, you saw her. God, do you think Kendall will ever be the same?
Zach: I do love you. And I don't think I'll ever love like that again. But that's not enough, is it? Because then you wouldn't have this.
Kendall: Wouldn't have what?
Zach: This -- drama, fighting, just tearing things apart. Why do you do that anyway? So you can put it back together again?
Kendall: That's -- that's not why we fight. It's not why I fight.
Zach: Then why?
Kendall: Because I'm scared. Because ever since I knew how much I loved you, I've felt this pit in my stomach, this fear.
Zach: You're scared of me?
Kendall: No, not of you. Of your love. I'm scared that I'll lose it, that I'll lose you. And if that happens, I think it would just kill me.
[Zach hugs Kendall]
Annie: I can just see the headline now -- "Annie Chandler Free as a Bird." And it can be a big picture of me, on the cover, in my wedding dress, releasing doves into the sky. Come on, Adam, we have to do it. I mean, letting go of a few birds is the closest thing to flipping the bird at all the people who doubted us. And I don't think they're gonna print a picture of that, so.
Adam: No, I don't think so. Doves -- that's perfect.
Adam: Yeah, we'll call the, uh -- what do you call it?
Annie: The dove wranglers. Yeah, I've already actually looked into a few. I'm so, so glad that you're into wedding planning again with me.
Scott: You wanted out, Uncle Adam?
Adam: Um, Annie caught me at a bad time. I was in very bad shape about your dad. I wanted Stuart to be my best man.
Scott: Best man I've ever known.
Annie: Ok. Maybe we could ask our judge friend to be your best man. I'm -- I'm just kidding. That was a joke.
Scott: No, Uncle Adam, if you've changed your mind about me standing up for you, I completely understand.
Adam: Well, I was just thinking it should be my son. Too bad J.R. is lost in the bottom of a bottle again.
Adam: Oh, speak of the devil.
Adam: No, it's the judge. Probably wants to set up a tee time for golf. Excuse me. Yeah.
Annie: Well, you are obviously not filling the void. Adam needs his real son.
Marissa: Feeling better?
J.R.: How can I not be?
Marissa: This one's on me.
[Marissa massages J.R.'s shoulders]
J.R.: You know, my whole life I expected everyone to get me out of my messes -- my parents, Tad, Babe. But not this time. I'm the only one who could beat this -- or that's it. The end.
Marissa: Hey, I -- I know that you have to do the fighting, but I can be one hell of a cheerleader.
Marissa: You need to rest.
J.R.: It could be my son. It could be Little Adam.
Annie: J.R., it's Annie. Did you hear the good news?
J.R.: My father dumped you, and you're going to jail.
Annie: Close. I turned in a plea and the court has decided that I served enough time.
J.R.: The judge released you?
Annie: Yep. Anyway, we're all at the mansion celebrating. It's your father, Scott, and myself. I know Adam really misses you, and I would just love for you to --
Marissa: Annie's free? For good?
J.R.: I wonder how much money my dad threw at that judge. That means this death trap of a wedding could actually happen.
Marissa: J.R., wait. It's -- J.R.
Zach: I shouldn't put this all on you. Same thing, you know. The reason you fight, the same reason I shut down. It's to try to protect myself.
Kendall: When you do that, I feel like I'm all alone, even when you're here.
Zach: You feel alone now?
Kendall: Oh, God. What if it's the police?
Liza: So I stopped Willis from talking to the impersonator. Kendall's in the clear.
[Kendall hugs Zach]
Zach: Thank you.
Liza: Well, it's gonna cost you another hundred grand.
Zach: You've earned it.
Liza: It's not for me. It's for your employee. She wants out and threatened to blow her cover, so I held her off with a promise of more money. I don't know long it's gonna last.
Zach: How did you hold off Willis?
Liza: Well, I had Kendall's body double lose it in the cell, and they dragged her off before Willis could actually see her. You know, she is not the sharpest shiv in the cell. It makes her a liability. You better step it up with Annie.
Zach: Annie pled guilty by reason of insanity. Judge let her go.
Kendall: You don't -- you don't seem surprised.
Liza: Well, Adam is really good at manipulating the law in his favor.
Kendall: I really thought you were gonna turn me in.
Liza: Because you got me all figured out, Kendall? Listen, I might not like you, but I believe you're innocent. And I've always done right by you in this case -- not because I'm your lawyer, or was your lawyer. It's because -- well, I got integrity. I don't just go around doing whatever I want and to hell with everybody else.
Kendall: You mean like I do.
Adam: What happened to your hair?
Marissa: It was my idea.
J.R.: I was hoping that this was a joke.
Annie: Look. Your father got me something pretty for my ankle.
Adam: You look ridiculous.
J.R.: "Ridiculous" is you getting married to her.
Annie: Ok, uh -- sparkling cider, anybody?
Adam: This wedding isn't news, J.R.
J.R.: Yeah, well, I thought she'd be in jail by the time it happened. She's gonna clean you out, Dad.
Annie: No, J.R., I love your father.
J.R.: No, I'm toasting you.
Adam: Annie is going to be as much a part of this family as you are, J.R.
J.R.: The day that you make her my stepmother, you're as good as -- you're as good as dead.
Adam: Drunk again.
Marissa: No, he's not.
Scott: So what's wrong with him?
Marissa: J.R. has been drying out, and it's made him very sick. He can't be around all of this.
Adam: Well, I knew he wouldn't do that to his hair sober.
Marissa: I did it. He was sober the whole time. J.R. is fighting this disease with all he's got. If you only knew. Shaving his head was so he could mark the start of his fight. He's keeping it like that until he's won. I'm proud of him, and you should be, too. And if you love him, you'll back off.
Adam: Back off? He came here.
Annie: It's my fault. I called him. You said that you were missing him.
Adam: I love you for reaching out to him, and when J.R. starts treating us with respect, I'll return it.
Amanda: Are you busy? Because I can come back.
Jake: No, it's all right. I'm just wrapping up my shift. How's Trevor doing?
Amanda: He's good.
Amanda: I miss you. And I hate what happened. I hate how we're always working some plan, playing some game.
Jake: It's never been a game when it came to the two of us.
Amanda: I want us to be together. I love you. And I just want to be with Trevor, too, and I know you want that for me.
Jake: Yeah, of course, I do. I do. I miss him, too, you know.
Amanda: He misses you. All right, hey. So -- so let's try to fix this, all right? David said that --
Jake: Ah --
Jake: Everything you have been saying as of late is "David." "David says." World according to David. David, David." It's like, I swear -- is he brainwashing you?
Amanda: Will you give me some credit. I'm not some idiot that can't think for herself.
Jake: Krystal wasn't an idiot. Look what happened there.
Amanda: Could we just -- I don't want to argue about David anymore. Can we just keep it about the two of us?
Jake: How can it be about the two of us when it's just not? It's not that setup. Right, my wife is living with another man, so how --
Amanda: Please don't make it an ego thing.
Jake: Are you kidding me? Excuse -- are you kidding me?
Amanda: "My wife in his house."
Jake: I didn't say "house." I said, "home." There's a really big difference, Amanda. Home. Look, we got married, right? We -- we had vows. We said vows.
Amanda: Just say it.
Jake: I'm trying to say it. I'm trying. I'm really trying here, ok? We said vows. I really wanted to live out those vows with you.
Amanda: And you think I don't? How could you say that to me?
Jake: How could I say that? How? Because we're not. You are -- my wife is living with another man. You are this -- this close to living those vows out with another man. You are in another man's home. You're making a family with another man.
Amanda: Stop saying that. My home is with you, Jake.
David: Amanda. What are you doing here? What did you do to her?
[Jake's beeper rings]
J.R.: You're their silent partner?
Marissa: J.R., don't.
Scott: I want Annie out.
J.R.: Then do it. I can't. I've got my hands full trying to beat this disease.
Scott: And I'm as proud of you as she is.
[Scott hugs J.R.]
Liza: Good luck with your case. And I would get that bonus into your employee's account fast.
Kendall: I've been really selfish, and I don't blame you for not liking me. But, despite your personal feelings, you've risked a lot for me, and I know any chance I have of getting out of this mess is due in large part to you. So, thank you for handling Willis today and for everything you've done for me and my family.
Liza: Just doing my job. I'm going home to my child.
Zach: Give us a minute.
[Zach walks outside with Liza]
Zach: Thank you.
Liza: I've recommended a very good lawyer who's gonna take it from here.
Zach: I'm sorry about --
Liza: Zach, don't.
Krystal: Hi, Jake.
Jake: Hey. Something wrong -- something wrong with Trevor?
Krystal: No. No, no, no. Trevor's fine. I just -- I came by to tell you that I talked to Amanda, and I guess you did, too.
Krystal: Ok. Good. I hope I got through to her.
Jake: She's, uh, she's in there with David.
Krystal: Why -- why aren't you in there?
Jake: Well, um, because we tried talking and that didn't work, and then David walked in so, you know, I -- I walked out.
Krystal: Jake, Amanda loves you.
Jake: Uh, I don't know about that, because she came to talk to me, and I went in the room with her and then when he came in, I came out, and she didn't come out with me. So what does that tell you?
Amanda: I came here to work things out, but he doesn't think there's a way.
David: Just give him some time. He'll come around.
Amanda: I'm scared he won't. He's too hung up on who lives where and what it all means. I'm -- I'm just gonna go back to the house.
David: That's a great idea. Just go home and relax.
Amanda: Yeah, uh, I better get back to Trevor.
David: Well, tell the little guy Daddy will be home soon. What is it?
Amanda: Nothing. I'm fine.
David: Ok. I'll see you at home.
J.R.: You think Scott meant what he said?
Marissa: Yeah. I got the vibe that he was more anti-Annie than you are.
J.R.: I don't think that's possible. You told my family that you were proud of me?
Marissa: Yeah, I did. Very proud. Are you sure you're ok?
J.R.: Yeah. I'm just sorry that you had to cover for me like that and take the heat for my hair, or lack of.
[Marissa kisses J.R.'s bald pate]
J.R.: Man, I'm wiped. Maybe it's like "Sampson and Delilah." He loses his strength after he loses his hair.
Marissa: Don't let Vin Diesel hear you say that. Hey, you're -- you're strong, J.R. All you lost is a little hair. You won't lose hope. I won't let you.
[J.R. and Marissa hug]
Annie: Are you and J.R. plotting against me?
Scott: Now, see, that sounds paranoid.
Annie: Oh, I dare you to even try it. Adam would cut you and J.R. out of his life way before he'd get rid of me. So don't waste your time. I'm in charge now.
[Annie gasps as Scott pulls her to him and kisses her]
Scott: Who's in charge?
Kendall: I'm sorry about going off on you before.
Zach: No more about that. Let's just worry about the here and now.
Kendall: It's just the more hopeful I get about us the more scared I get. I mean, Zach, I want us back together but not if we're gonna screw it up.
Zach: All we can do right now is keep each other in the moment.
Kendall: So if I say, in this moment, I love you like crazy --
Zach: Well, then, in this moment I love you, too.
Liza: Hey. Oh, yeah.
Colby: Are you ok?
Liza: I just love you so much. I don't think I tell you enough.
Colby: I love you, too, Mom.
Liza: So what did you guys do all day, huh?
Colby: Oh, we started packing for the move.
Colby: And there's a weird message for you on the machine -- I guess about a case.
Liza: What -- that's weird. Why would they call me at the hotel? They should call me at work.
Voice: Hi, my name is Bailey Welles. I'm looking for Miss Colby. I was hoping -- well, I was hoping you could help me find my baby.
