Marissa: Good morning. Or not.
J.R.: You seen this? I don't care what Kendall says, she didn't kill Uncle Stuart. Annie did. Now she's gonna be my new stepmom.
Marissa: Ok, look. Here's the deal: Annie's off the hook, and she's about to marry your father. You can either let that drive you crazy or accept it for what it is.
J.R.: My worst nightmare?
Marissa: Reality. Scott's managed to go with it, right? It's time that you did, too.
Adam: Ah, well. It looks like justice for Stuart will finally be served. What is this ogre doing in my house?
Zach: I just want to talk, that's all.
Adam: You want to talk about what? No, no, don't tell me. It would be Kendall's sentencing? Would that be it? Don't worry. I'll be there. Couldn't keep me away for all the world.
Annie: Well, it's a little early for champagne, but why not? I assume you're here to congratulate us? Adam and I are engaged.
Liza: Well, I see you're anxious to get to your cell. You know, Kendall, I could have bought you more time. I could have scheduled the sentencing for weeks from now.
Kendall: So we can drag this on even longer? No. I want to get this over with once and for all.
Frankie: This is unreal. Can you believe Kendall confessed? Your boss killed a man.
Randi: People do things, Frankie.
Frankie: Guess she couldn't, uh, take the guilt anymore.
[Knock on door]
Randi: I'll get it.
Natalia: Hey. Hey. I'm so sorry for dumping all that stuff on you guys yesterday. I mean, you guys have enough to think about without having to worry about Dad and police cover-up.
Angie: Randi, you're right about those blinds -- much better than the curtains. Hey, you.
Angie: Now, what's this about your father covering something up?
Jesse: Liza has made up a list of family and friends, people that are going to speak on Kendall's behalf.
Ryan: And I'm not on the list?
Jesse: Sorry. I know you want to help, but...
Ryan: But I happen to be the guy Kendall had an affair with, so...
Jesse: Yeah. Doesn't exactly make you the best character witness, does it?
Ryan: I just wish -- I just wish there was something I could do, Jesse.
Erica: Where is she?
Jesse: Interrogation. She's in with Liza.
Erica: I don't care if she's in with the Pope. You are not saying another word, and that's final.
Marissa: What happened to making an effort with your family?
J.R.: Annie is not my family, and you need to stop acting like you know what's best for me.
Marissa: Hey, wait! I'm just trying to help.
J.R.: Yeah. I did what you asked. I went to the house, and I tried to make nice.
Marissa: I know, I know, and Annie shoved a ring in your face. I was there.
J.R.: Just give me a second to be pissed, ok?
Marissa: Well, I would if I thought a second would do it, but you're obsessing, J.R. It's not healthy.
J.R.: Yeah. Neither is my dad marrying the town psycho, but what are you gonna do about it?
Marissa: Has it even crossed your mind that maybe Annie and Adam might actually love each other?
J.R.: Don't say it. No. No. I can't believe you said it.
Marissa: What if they're really happy?
J.R.: Listen. Annie's gonna use my father as a shield, and as she is done with him, she's gonna sink a knife into his back, or a bullet, or a tire iron. I don't know. There's just so many weapons of choice with her.
Marissa: Ok. Forget that I said anything.
J.R.: I'm sorry. I'm not Scott. I'm definitely not into the idealist thing. I'm certainly not out to save the world.
Marissa: Who said that that's what I wanted from you?
J.R.: Well, what do you want?
Marissa: Absolutely nothing.
Colby: Whoa. What'd you do now?
Annie: You're speechless. So was I when Adam proposed. But I swear, today, right now, the world has never felt so perfect.
Adam: Ok. Now, now, now, now, we mustn't let our euphoria blind us to Zach's plight. He's just been dealt a devastating blow. He thinks maybe Kendall will be lost to him forever.
Annie: I heard. How is she handling it?
Zach: I want to talk to you alone.
Adam: Come on. I think it's a beautiful day. Why don't you go and cut some hydrangea out of the front lawn? Thank you. Yes. Oh, stunning, isn't she? Heh heh heh! Well, what did you want to talk to me about, as if I didn't already know?
Zach: I need your help.
Zach: My wife.
Kendall: Mom, please, please don't make this harder than it already is.
Erica: I'm making it harder? Kendall, you confessed to murder. The sentencing is today.
Kendall: I thought it would be easier if everyone if we just got it out of the way.
Erica: Kendall, I had a plane standing by, a plane to whisk you and Ian and Spike away from here, out of the country, to a safe place.
Kendall: I know.
Erica: Well, what happened?
Kendall: I couldn't do it -- not to Zach, not to Ryan, especially not to the boys.
Erica: Oh, you were not thinking about the boys.
Erica: Because if you had been thinking about the boys, you would have been long gone by now. You would be holding them and reading to them and singing them to sleep. But instead, I mean, you're leaving them without their mother.
Kendall: No, I'm leaving them with their fathers. They -- they need each other.
Erica: And what about what I need? We've talked about this. Ok. Listen to me, Kendall. It's not too late. This can be undone.
Kendall: Mom, I am guilty, ok? It's over.
Erica: It doesn't have to be. There is still a little time before the sentencing. You can run.
Kendall: No. No. No.
Erica: Please, let me help.
Kendall: You really want to help me?
Erica: You know I do, more than anything in the world.
Kendall: Then right now, please go home and be with my sons. Hold them, read to them, and sing them to sleep.
Erica: But you're due in court.
Kendall: I don't want you there.
Erica: Well, of course, I'm gonna be there. I'm a character witness.
Kendall: No, not anymore. I'm having you taken off the list.
Erica: That's ridiculous. I'm your mother, and I love you.
Kendall: And I love you, which is exactly why I want to spare you all of this.
Erica: I can handle it.
Kendall: Ok, Mom. I can't. All right? If I take one look at you in that room, I'm gonna lose it. I know I am. Please, please, just be with my boys. Just knowing that you're with them, it'll give me some peace, and I could really use some of that right now.
Erica: Do you know what you're asking? I mean...for me not to be there when you need me most...
Kendall: It's torture. But you're Erica Kane, right? You can brave anything out.
Erica: And so can you, and don't you ever forget that.
Adam: I must say, I'm surprised that the sentencing was today.
Zach: Kendall wants this nightmare to be over.
Adam: Hmm. The guilt finally getting to her, is it?
Zach: This is what she wanted, for Stuart, his family, and for our kids.
Adam: How kind of Kendall to think of us.
Zach: Well, maybe now you can think of Kendall. Stuart wouldn't want this. He wasn't vindictive. He was kind and gentle, and he was full of hope. And that's what I want for Kendall, some hope for the future that she can see her kids again.
Adam: Well, Kendall robbed our family of its heart and its soul, and I'm gonna see to it that she pays.
Zach: She is paying, Adam, every day, just not with her life.
Adam: Says who?
Zach: Do you remember how this whole thing started? One man, his greed, his bottom line. You almost killed my son.
Adam: Yeah. But I've apologized for that. But Kendall didn't "almost" kill Stuart. She succeeded. She came by here with murder in her heart and shot my brother in the back!
Zach: Kendall came by here to shoot you!
Scott: Everything ok in here?
Adam: I'll never forgive myself for the part I played in Stuart's death, but I won't forgive Kendall, either.
Zach: And I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm asking for her life.
Scott: My father wouldn't want Kendall to die, Uncle Adam.
Annie: Please, think about little Ian and little Spike and how horrible that would be for them.
Adam: Tell me that was an act. You're not saying you want me to help Kendall Slater?
Annie: That's exactly what I want you to do.
Ryan: How did it go?
Erica: She doesn't want me in court. She wants me to be with the boys.
Jesse: Well, maybe that's not such a bad idea.
Erica: My daughter is going to be sentenced to life or worse. If one of your children were in trouble like this, you know as well as I do you would do anything -- anything in your power to protect them as best you could.
Natalia: I mean, I told Dad that I heard her confess, and he still didn't do anything about it.
Randi: I'm sure Jesse had his reasons, Natalia.
Natalia: I just don't want him to be mad at me, is all.
Angie: Hey, are you kidding? You're following in his footsteps, and from what I can tell, you're doing a fine job. Listen. I'm sure Jesse's nothing but proud of you.
Frankie: All righty, then. Now that we're done praising Natalia, I need a ride to the hospital. I got to see a doctor about some hands or something like that, maybe?
Jesse: I'm so sorry about what you're going through here, Erica.
Erica: But you can't do anything to help?
Jesse: Ultimately, it's Kendall's decision. If you need me, I'll be upstairs. Ok?
Erica: God, I hate this: feeling so helpless.
Ryan: I hear you. I hear you. They won't let me at the sentencing, either.
Erica: Ryan, what are we gonna do?
Erica: Zach. Zach, obviously, Kendall is just not thinking clearly. We have to help her. We have to fight. We have to make her see reason.
Zach: The only thing I want to do right now is see my wife.
Erica: Ryan, why don't you go in there? Why don't you make them both see reason?
Ryan: Erica, this is between Zach and Kendall.
Kendall: I can't believe this is it.
Zach: What do you mean?
Kendall: The last time we'll be alone without bars between us.
Zach: This won't be the last time. I won't let it be.
Kendall: Zach, I need you to do me a favor.
Kendall: Later, in the courtroom, I don't want you to look at me.
Zach: What are you talking about?
Kendall: I want to remember these eyes. These are the eyes that married me...laughed with me, watched our children breathe with me. I need to remember these eyes. Please.
Kendall: You're gonna have a great life, Zach.
Zach: Stop saying that.
Kendall: And I'm so lucky to have been part of it.
Zach: The best part.
[Zach and Kendall hold each other]
Natalia: I love being a police officer, even though having your father as a police chief can be a pain in your butt.
Randi: Oh, stop it. You love it.
Natalia: Ok. I mean, to be able to look at your father not just as your dad, but professionally too, is amazing. So now, to find out that he may not be on the level --
Randi: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. So your father's not being 100% honest. Look, Natalia. Everyone has secrets, ok? Look at me.
Angie: Did you see how Randi jumped to Jesse's defense?
Frankie: Yeah, but they're close, especially since the miscarriage.
Angie: No, it seems to be a bit more than that. I confronted your father about what happened to Henry North. I don't know, Frankie. I just feel that he is keeping something from me. And I don't know how, but I think Randi's involved.
Natalia: Yeah, girl, but it's not the same. I mean, you were honest about your secrets.
Randi: Yeah, because I had to be. And still, people got hurt.
Natalia: What are you talking about?
Randi: Um, nothing. Like, you know, you remember the whole scandal with the Internet video, and Frankie got into all that drama with those guys at his job, and I lost my job as the face of Fusion. Just that, you know, some secrets are better left unsaid.
Natalia: No way, especially not if you're the chief of police, Randi. I mean, his job is to uphold the law, not interpret it. He doesn't get to choose who's right and who's wrong.
Randi: Look. Jesse's a cop, right? But he's also a husband, a father --
Natalia: Ok. Then he definitely needs to learn how to separate them.
Randi: Sometimes, that's just not possible.
Frankie: You think Randi knows what's going on with Dad?
Angie: I haven't gotten that far yet.
Frankie: What exactly did Dad say?
Angie: It's what he didn't say. I accused him of keeping something from me.
Frankie: Did he deny it?
Angie: No. He asked me to trust him.
Randi: You love Jesse, right?
Natalia: Of course, I do.
Randi: Then take my advice. Trust him.
Frankie: So do you trust Dad?
Angie: I always have. The question is, when is your dad finally going to trust me?
Cop: Chief? Call on line 2, regards the final papers of Henry North.
Jesse: Be right there. Thanks.
J.R.: Marissa started selling me on Dad and Annie's engagement, so I guess --
Colby: With their what?
J.R.: Oh, let me guess. Dad hasn't told you?
Colby: Dad's marrying Annie Lavery? When did you find that out?
J.R.: Yesterday. I walked in on Scott toasting the happy couple.
Colby: Dad can't marry Annie. That's insane. It'll be the biggest mistake of his life. You have to stop them.
Annie: Oh, Adam, you have to do what Zach asked.
Adam: Absolutely not!
Annie: Listen. I hate it as much as you do, ok? But if you do this, maybe he'll back off, he'll let us get married in peace. Wouldn't it be worth it?
Adam: If you want me to get on the stand and sing Kendall's praises, no, I won't do that.
Annie: I'm not saying that. I'm just saying, don't bury her, or Zach will never leave us alone.
Zach: Now you got to do me a favor. Don't give up on me. I know you didn't kill Stuart, and I'm gonna prove it.
Zach: No good-byes, not today.
Erica: Are you here to check up on me?
Ryan: And Ian and Spike. They upstairs?
Erica: No. Actually, Rachel left a note. She took them to the park. I'm sure she's trying to maintain some sense of normalcy in their little lives, but nothing's ever gonna be normal again, is it?
Ryan: I'm really sorry that you're going through this, Erica.
Erica: Oh, I'm fine. It's -- it's Kendall we have to be worried about...although I seem to be the only one who cares anymore.
Ryan: That's not true.
Erica: No? Then how can Zach just stand by and watch Kendall throw her life away? And how can you?
Ryan: It's what she wants.
Erica: Ryan, I don't believe for one minute that's what she really wants. I think that Kendall is trying so hard to be strong, but she's not, Ryan. Zach should be with the judge right now. He should be pleading her case. Or he should be trying to break her out, kicking and screaming if he has to -- anything but this.
Ryan: Hey, hey, hey, we've tried everything. We've done all of that. She's not a little girl anymore, Erica. She's a grown woman. This is what she wants, and our job is to live with that.
Judge Pearson: Please continue, Mr. Slater.
Zach: Continue, yes. Of course, we'll continue. Have to, right? Can I ask you a question? You have, um...you have a family? You got kids?
Judge Pearson: As a matter of fact, I do.
Zach: It's the best. Maybe you understand, then. I know when I married Kendall over here, I thought I loved her with all my heart, and, uh, turns out I was wrong, because when she gave birth to those two boys, I loved her more. Great mother, incredible mother. I mean, she -- she loved those kids so much. Wild abandon. She'd do anything for them. And those two boys, they've been through a lot, and, uh, hadn't been for Kendall, they wouldn't be here right now. And I know that's -- that's not why we're here. I know. I get it. And I'm not asking you anything. I'm just wanting you to...just want you to understand a little bit, you know? You say you have kids yourself, so you must know how it feels, how it would feel, if somebody just took one of them away from you. And not because it was time or because some horrible accident, but because of someone's greed. See, the thing, that kind of greed would put a gun in anyone's hand, and that's why Kendall was there that night, not -- not because she wanted to kill somebody, but because she was grieving for her boy.
Erica: I was convinced that Zach would ruin Kendall's life.
Ryan: And then?
Erica: And then I -- I saw his commitment to her and their family, and I thought that Kendall would be safe with Zach, that he really loved her. But today -- today Kendall might get a life sentence, and that's not the worst-case scenario. I mean, what if the judge decides that --
Ryan: He won't.
Erica: Well, he could.
Ryan: He...he won't, ok? He's gonna listen to what everyone has to say, and then he'll know that Kendall doesn't deserve to die. He'll know, ok?
Erica: Kendall doesn't deserve any of this. You know who should be on trial today, who's committed more crimes than I can even count.
Erica: Annie. But she's probably over at Adam's. She's probably lounging around the Chandler parlor just planning their future, while Kendall throws hers away.
[Annie rings bell again]
Lucretia: You rang?
Annie: I did. Come, join me. Chocolate? Ok. Lucretia, what do you think?
Lucretia: About what?
Annie: About dresses. I could either go sleek and sexy or fairy tale princess. I was hoping you could help me decide.
Lucretia: Doesn't a maid of honor do that? Or, I don't know, at least...a friend?
Annie: Yeah. If you haven't really noticed, I don't really have many of those. So that's why I'm asking you.
Lucretia: I, uh, don't have much experience with weddings, especially not one like this.
Annie: Like this? What's that supposed to mean?
Lucretia: Nothing. It's -- it's just that Mr. Chandler is, uh, well, he's, um...and you're...
Annie: Forget it. Forget it. Forget it. Forget it. Forget it. I can do it myself. Excuse me.
Lucretia: Should I get back to work?
Annie: Uh, unless you have the day off. Oh, and bring some more coffee. That pot's cold.
Lucretia: Right away.
Annie: Oh, and, Lucretia, I think we should switch out these flowers. I think roses would be nicer.
Lucretia: But the hydrangea -- they're Mr. Chandler's favorite.
Annie: Yeah, but they're not mine.
Scott: My father was happy and loving and hopelessly optimistic. He saw the good in everything... and everyone. He was also extremely forgiving.
Adam: I've always believed in an eye for an eye, but my nephew is right. While a lethal injection might make my day, that's not what Stuart would have wanted. The fact is, that bullet wasn't meant for Stuart. My brother is dead because of me, because of my mistakes, and I will feel the guilt every day for the rest of my life. I can't bring Stuart back, but I can honor his memory by carrying out his wishes. So, your honor, I would like to ask this court for leniency.
Marian: Stuart may have forgiven his killer... but make no mistake, I do not.
Madison: Hello, Frankie.
Frankie: Ms. North. How are you?
Madison: Madison, please. I'm coping. You? The last I heard, there were problems with the baby. I hope everything turned out all right.
Frankie: Actually, no, it didn't.
Madison: Oh, I'm so sorry. Please pass along my condolences to Randi.
Frankie: I will. Thank you.
Madison: Oh, Mrs. Hubbard. So nice to see you again.
Angie: You, too. You didn't tell me you'd met North's wife.
Frankie: Yeah, a while ago at the Yacht Club.
Angie: What, she just approached you out of nowhere?
Frankie: She recognized Randi from a picture on Dad's desk. I guess he told her about the baby. She wanted to say congratulations. She's a nice woman.
Angie: A little too nice.
Frankie: And why do you say that?
Angie: Look. Her husband's case is closed, right? Why is she still hanging around? First, Jesse, and now you.
Frankie: Mom, we just ran into each other. Trust me, it's a total coincidence. It's random.
Frankie: What? You think she followed us here?
Angie: You know, all I know is something is not right with that woman, and it's the same kind of feeling that I'm getting with your father.
Frankie: And now with Randi, too. This, uh, feeling you have, what is it?
Angie: I don't know. All I know is that it keeps bringing me back to Henry North and the day that he died.
Marian: You all keep talking about the intended victim and how we should take pity on Kendall because, after all, Stuart wasn't supposed to die. Kendall meant to shoot Adam. I don't care what was supposed to happen. My husband is gone... forever. And it's because of you. You may have shot one bullet, but you killed two of us that night. And you all keep talking and talking about what Stuart would want. Well, we'll never know what Stuart would want, will we? Because he's dead! Damn it, doesn't anybody care? Oh, no, please. Please, go away from me. You're the worst of all, defending the woman who killed my husband. You make me sick, Liza. You all make me sick, just standing here, pleading; huddling here, pleading for mercy, when that cold-blooded monster showed none of it. Oh, my God, she just left him there, lying on the ground while the light and the life seeped out of him. Well, where was your mercy then, Kendall? I hope you suffer for every second of every minute of the rest of your miserable life. And when you die, I hope you rot in hell!
J.R.: Lucretia. You hate leaving the kitchen.
Lucretia: She rang.
J.R.: She? Oh, uh, Annie?
J.R.: She can't be serious.
Lucretia: I want to take that bell and shove it --
J.R.: Ok. How about you take a break or something like that? I'll take this to her highness. Thanks.
Annie: Finally. I thought Lucretia had gone to Colombia herself to pick the beans.
J.R.: Milk? Cream?
Annie: Heh! Yeah, maybe a few drops of arsenic, too? You can cut this whole act. It's actually getting very embarrassing. Adam's not here, Scott's not here, and your little buddy Marissa's not here. What's her deal, anyway? Whatever. The point is, we're alone, so you can be real.
J.R.: About what?
Annie: About me. I am planning a wedding to your father, and you can't stand it, but you're not gonna be able to change anything, because I am going to be the next Mrs. Adam Chandler whether you like it or not.
J.R.: Well, I guess that's that. Uh, could you pass the sugar?
Liza: Just be prepared. We may not know for a few days.
Zach: We got to know a lot quicker than that.
Marissa: Hey, I thought you did great up there.
Scott: All I did was tell the truth.
Marissa: Still, it couldn't have been easy. I think your dad would have been really proud.
Scott: I wish I could say the same for Marian.
Marian: I thought that you would be a comfort to me, Adam -- Stuart's twin, his other half -- but when I look at you, I don't see Stuart at all. When I look at you, I see nothing.
Adam: Marian, I know you're hurting.
Marian: And it will never go away. How does it feel to be responsible for your own brother's death, hmm? Oh, I'm so sorry, Adam. Am I making you uncomfortable? Well, don't worry, you won't be seeing me around here much longer. I am moving out of the gate house.
Adam: Oh, Marian, that's your home.
Marian: My home was with Stuart.
Liza: Sorry about my mother.
Zach: She's in pain.
Liza: The things that she said about Kendall -- I know that deep down inside that she doesn't believe that.
Zach: The only thing that matters now is what the judge believes.
Bailiff: Judge Pearson is ready for you now.
Madison: Randi. I just wanted to say I'm so sorry...about the baby. I ran into Frankie before, and he told me --
Randi: Stay the hell away from him.
Madison: So hostile. And here I thought we were friends.
Randi: Friends? Friends don't send each other twisted threats.
Madison: And I guess they don't kill each other's husbands, either. Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me.
Randi: Do you have any idea what you did to me? Do you know what happened when I opened that box and I saw that bookend?
Madison: I don't have the faintest idea what you're talking about.
Randi: You are the reason I lost my baby.
Madison: You lost your baby because of your guilty conscience, and we both know that.
J.R.: You know, you're right. We're the only ones that are here. Maybe it's time that we put it all out there.
J.R.: I'd like you to go first.
Annie: Excuse me?
J.R.: I want you to admit that you're playing my father for money or protection or whatever the hell else you want.
Annie: Is it really that outrageous that I might really love your father?
J.R.: Uh...yes. I mean, look at you. You're so young and...so hot. Little bit of a head case, but, still, you're hot. And my dad is just so...old.
Annie: I don't care.
J.R.: So you're telling me that he turns you on?
Annie: Oh, yeah, all the time.
J.R.: And when he kisses you?
Annie: It's very nice.
J.R.: Nice? I bet that you and I, we could do a lot better than nice.
[J.R. starts kissing Annie]
Erica: The thought of Kendall in prison for so long -- I know what that's like, especially the nights. It's the isolation. It's going to be so hard.
Ryan: It's gonna be pretty hard on you, too.
Erica: I don't want to lose my daughter.
Ryan: I know you don't.
Erica: But I have no choice, do I?
[Ryan puts his arm around Erica]
Judge Pearson: We've heard from a number of witnesses today, and there was quite a lot of talk about forgiveness. I listened closely, Mrs. Slater, to what everyone had to say, and I've taken those statements into account, but the fact of the matter is you've pled guilty to murder in the first degree. And despite extenuating circumstances which I understand are very real, the law remains quite clear. I've reached my verdict. Will the defendant please rise?
