Amanda: Oh, Trevor. Oh, my baby.
Tad: Come on, kiddo. You haven't got anything to cry about.
Tad: If you want to cry about something, look at the economy. Look at the Orioles. Look at the fact that that place that serves cheese steak on the corner -- it closed. That's something to cry about. Hmm? Come on. Oh, no. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. I'm, sorry, honey. I didn't mean to wake you up.
Taylor: No, no. I hate to miss a party. How long has he been hitting high "C"?
Tad: Not since after you started sawing logs last night.
Taylor: I do not snore. I breathe deeply.
Tad: Well, it certainly keeps the wild animals away.
Taylor: Why didn't you just wake me up, then?
Tad: Because I'm supposed to be the pro, remember, with all the answers. Oh, man, I was so wrong. Nothing worked. Not even my patented "Shuffle Off to Buffalo."
Taylor: Oh, my gosh. You don't think he's sick or something or -- hey, maybe it was the storm. Maybe it was the thunder. The thunder scared him.
Tad: He just doesn't -- well, it -- I can't offer him the one thing he really needs. But now that you're awake --
Tad: Breasts. He needs breasts.
Randi: Ow, Frankie! Ow. It's the -- it hurts so much!
Frankie: I'm gonna get help.
Randi: No, no, no! Don't leave me.
Frankie: Hey, I got to get help.
Randi: Oh -- ow.
Angie: Is she hurt?
Ryan: Physically, she's fine. She just -- she won't talk. She won't respond to anything. She's traumatized. Ok.
Erica: All right, listen, I'm gonna be out in the waiting room. Ok?
Ryan: Ok. Thank you.
Jake: What's happening?
Erica: Emma is the latest victim in the Stuart Chandler murder. I mean, Emma was a witness. The poor little girl -- I mean, everybody's been asking her to talk, pressuring her not to talk, and they just pushed too hard. She's completely shut down.
Ryan: Ok, sweetness, the doctors are gonna help you. Ok? They're gonna make you feel better.
[Emma hides under the pillow]
Annie: So you have been recording everything that's happened in here?
Adam: Yes, yes. I love gadgets. I like to keep up with the latest technology.
Annie: Yeah. So, um, what -- what else have you seen?
Adam: Oh, well, just this and that, you know. Annie, how long have you been planning our wedding?
Annie: Oh. It -- it's silly, I know. Um, I just -- I love you so much, I couldn't help but fantasize what it would be like to be your wife: Mrs. Adam Chandler.
Adam: Oh, I'm sure there's a whole list of Mrs. Adam Chandlers that would be willing to share their insights with you, yeah. Although, you might run screaming when you hear what they have to say.
Annie: No. Never. I know you. I love you.
[Annie kisses Adam]
Annie: And every day I fall a little harder.
Adam: What are you doing?
Annie: Um, I'd like a little privacy, if that's all right with you?
Adam: Uh --
Annie: Camera off. Adam, will you marry me?
Kendall: I did it. I shot Stuart.
Zach: Why would you say that?
Kendall: Because it's true.
Zach: No, it's not. You didn't shoot anybody.
Kendall: Zach, that's what I thought. But I remember now. I remember seeing Emma there, and I had the gun in my hand.
Zach: And then you dropped it, and you ran away.
Kendall: I must've blocked out what really happened, because it was too horrible. Because I couldn't face the fact that I shot a man in cold blood.
Taylor: He needs my breasts?
Taylor: I don't even -- I mean, they barely -- hey, you didn't say that was part of the deal.
Tad: Look, honey, relax. Ok? It's just he's been taken care of by a woman since the day he was born, right? So he's used to curves, softness, you know? Just bumps.
Taylor: Little bumps?
Tad: They work for me: Always have, always will. Come on. Let's check out my theory -- with you and Trevor.
Tad: Ok, honey, come on. Just remember the head, all right? It's all right. It's ok. Loose, loose. Relax, relax, relax. Ooh, yes. Ooh, there's a wiggle. It's so much better already.
[Trevor stops fussing]
Tad: See? Look at him. Look at him. Look. There you go. It works! All you got to do is just from now on, make him feel safe, you know?
Taylor: Yeah. I feel kind of safe myself -- other than that squirming around part.
Tad: Yeah. Well, just -- you know, just keep walking around. You got it. You're a natural.
Taylor: Aw. Like magic. Hee hee hee hee!
Taylor: Aw. I think he's going to sleep.
Tad: That's the way it's supposed to work.
Taylor: Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. I can do this. Look: I'm doing this.
Tad: You certainly can. I never doubted you for a minute, except for the first time you changed his diaper. I thought you were going to cut off his circulation. And then there was the whole lullaby fiasco, but you get ten for effort. Oh.
Taylor: Oh, little sleepy. Was that a yawn? Was that a little yawn from you? Who's the most precious? Here, give me a bottle.
Tad: Was that actually baby talk coming out of your mouth? I don't believe it.
Taylor: Hey, I didn't think I could do the baby thing either, but I am. See, I was always a career girl. The only babies I ever saw were those stars: You know, 4 of them on my shoulder. I wanted to be a general, never a mother.
Tad: I know what you mean. Back when the world was still cooling, I was more interested in babes than babies. I was so young.
Taylor: Look how peaceful he is now.
Tad: Yeah. You certainly get one gold star, at least.
Taylor: I want a baby. I want one of these.
Randi: Angie, I'm trying. I'm trying to be strong for the baby and positive, but it hurts so much!
Angie: Sweetheart, you're doing everything right, everything that you can. Whatever is going on here, this is not your fault. It's not your fault, baby. Ok? Sarah, the cramps have resumed. Bleeding --
Sarah: I'll take it from here.
Frankie: It's gonna be ok, baby. Everything's gonna be all right. Damn it!
Angie: Frankie, everything could still be ok.
Frankie: She's losing the baby, Ma, and there's nothing I can do about it. But I've done enough already, though. I doubted her. I questioned whether or not she even wanted this baby, and -- and now she's losing it. Who does that? What kind of husband am I?
Angie: Frankie, stop it. Now, whatever you said, whatever Randi's fears have been, there's no blame happening. Now, sweetheart, whether this baby becomes a part of our lives or not, it is not in our hands. It's in God's.
Jake: Erica told me that Emma witnessed Stuart's murder.
Ryan: And everybody wants to interrogate her about it, you know? And I knew this was gonna happen, so I tried to prevent it. I tried, but Slater was the final straw. He was in there asking her questions, and I walk in and Emma curls up in a ball and just shuts down. And now she won't even -- she won't even let me in. Can -- can you go and see if she's ok? Can you just go and try?
Jake: Ryan, I'm not a shrink. In fact, I think Angie called the psychiatrist.
Ryan: Well, the psychiatrist isn't here right now, and you're so good with kids, and she always likes you as a doctor and she knows you better now. She's been playing with Kathy so much. Come on. Can you just --
Jake: Ok. All right.
Erica: How is she?
Ryan: No change.
Erica: Emma will be all right.
Ryan: I'm sitting in a hospital waiting for a psychiatrist to evaluate my daughter. And I've done this. You know, I've done this with her mother. Here with Annie, hoping for a breakthrough. And instead of a breakthrough, I watched her get carried off in restraints.
Erica: But Emma is not Annie. Emma is a frightened little girl who needs some help, and she's here, Ryan. She's getting help. Emma will come back to you.
Adam: Annie, what we have is so good. Why ruin it by rushing into matrimony?
Annie: People who love each other get married. That's what they do.
Adam: Well, take it from a man who knows. Nothing murders romance faster than the trip down the aisle.
Annie: I can't believe you just said that.
Adam: Said what?
Annie: "Murders"? I can't believe you would throw that word at me.
Adam: Oh, just a little -- sorry. A little bit of hyperbole, huh?
Annie: Part of you still thinks I killed your brother, don't you? And thinks that after we're married, you'll be next.
Kendall: My mind is getting clearer. If I remembered seeing Emma there, then how soon until I remember the rest and pulling that trigger?
Zach: You didn't pull the trigger.
Kendall: Zach, you thought I did. That's why you confessed.
Zach: I overreacted. You didn't shoot Stuart.
Kendall: Because that's what you want to believe, Zach. So did I. But I've seen the truth now. Sweet, innocent Stuart.
[Kendall cries into her hands]
Kendall: I'm so sorry, Stuart. I'm so, so, sorry.
Zach: Where's this coming from? What happened?
Kendall: Stuart came to me. He led me through that whole night. And he helped me see the truth.
Zach: You see ghosts now?
Kendall: No, no, Zach, it wasn't a ghost. It was my guilty conscience forcing me to face reality.
Zach: You know what that is? It's Annie putting stuff in your head the same way she put stuff in Emma's head.
Kendall: No, no, Zach. Please stop trying to absolve me!
Zach: That's not what I'm doing. Annie shot Stuart.
Kendall: No, no. Nobody saw Annie on the terrace with a gun. You saw me. David saw me. Liza saw me. And Emma saw me. Emma saw me pulling the trigger.
Zach: Stop! Stop saying that. Stop confessing something you didn't do, all right? Understand? Stop it.
Kendall: Zach, the truth will come out.
Zach: Yes, it will. And Annie's gonna go to prison for killing Stuart, not you. I promise.
Jake: You know, when I was a kid and grown-ups would gang up on me, I always had a secret weapon. Oh, yeah, and it worked every single time. Man, was I good at it. Want to know what it was? Do you want to know? You want to know? You do? Ok. I'll tell you. I would hold my breath. Oh, yeah. And I would hold it for so long that I would turn the color of these scrubs here. What color are these scrubs? Blue? Green? All right, want me to do it right now? Want me to show you? You do? You do? What? Oh, you do? Ok. Here goes. Ready? Phew! Whoa, wow. That's been a while. It's been a long time since I -- ok. I'm all right. Did I turn blue? Did I turn teal? Like aqua, kind of? Sea-foam green? Is that this is -- sea-foam green? Hmm. You know, no one's mad at you. And you want to know why? Because you didn't do anything wrong. No. The grown-ups did. And you just got tangled up in their mess, kind of. And now they just feel silly. They -- they just feel silly, because they just love you. They love you to pieces, and they just want you to be happy. What's this? Is this yours? What? This?
Ryan: She looked at you. That's -- that's progress.
Jake: Yeah, well, I tried the old hold-your-breath trick, but it didn't really -- it didn't do much. She had this.
Erica: Well, thank you for trying.
Jake: It's all right. I'm sorry I couldn't do more.
Adam: Annie, I'm not calling you a black widow spider.
Annie: But because you read my file from Oak Haven, all my personal thoughts, there will always be doubts. Won't there? But let me tell you what that file doesn't show you. It doesn't show you a woman that could've walked away when you needed help. It doesn't show you a woman that would do anything to make you happy. So you can bury your head in all of the reports and evaluations as you want and see crazy Annie. Or you can see the person standing right in front of you: Somebody who loves you very, very much.
Adam: I love you, Annie.
Annie: But you won't marry me?
Adam: I'm not saying never to marriage.
Annie: So if we did ever happen to get married, would you make me sign a prenup?
Adam: Well, yes. A man in my position: I have children. I have grandchildren. I need to --
Annie: Protect yourself? That means we don't have trust. You don't trust me. If we don't have trust, what kind of love do we have?
Adam: The kind of love --
Annie: That's a lie. You held me up with a gun, accusing me of murder, and now you stand there rejecting me? I saved your life, and this is the kind of treatment I get.
Tad: I'm just saying it sounded like a proposition.
Taylor: No. I was just full of feelings. You know, I had a baby in my arms and it was amazing, and then out of nowhere I had this maternal moment. You know, one second I'm holding the baby, and the next I want to be a mother. I don't know.
Tad: Well, that's how it works. One moment they're somebody else's responsibility, and the next moment somebody puts one in your arms, and they look you up and down, inside and out. The rest is history. Kind of like what most women experience the first time they hold me.
Taylor: You're never serious, are you?
Tad: Never. Not if I can help it.
Taylor: I left my window open.
Taylor: Let me. Let me. I'm trained for this. I'll take care of that bastard.
Angie: I just got off the phone with your father. Appears something has come up in the Chandler murder case. But he's gonna get back here as soon as he can.
Frankie: Everyone says that the first year of marriage is the hardest. But this is nuts. Most people get married, and they go on a honeymoon. I go to Iraq and almost get my hands blown off, but we get through it. We actually see a light at the end of the tunnel. Randi gets pregnant. We're about to get the whole damn package. Now this happens?!
Angie: Frankie, God doesn't give us more than we can bear.
Frankie: Oh. God? So this is God's will? Enough with the God talk.
Angie: Oh --
Frankie: She lost the baby.
Sarah: I'm sorry.
Angie: Sweetheart --
[Frankie finds Randi crying in her bed and holds her]
Doctor: Hello, Emma. I'm Dr. Meyer.
Ryan: It's gonna take a lot more than bedside small talk. Emma saw a man shot and killed, and she hasn't said anything about it. She's kept it all inside all this time to protect her mother. A mother who -- who twisted her own child's mind in order to protect herself, which is amazing to me. It's amazing that Annie says she loves Emma, and she's doing exactly the same thing to Emma that Richie did to her.
Erica: But Emma is going to recover, Ryan. She's strong. She's strong and she's smart, and she has you. You have done everything you possibly could to protect her.
Ryan: Well, I don't know what to do to protect her now. I don't know where to start.
A.D.A. Willis: How about you start with me questioning your daughter? Nothing like getting the truth out in the open to clear the mind.
Ryan: You're not going anywhere near my daughter.
A.D.A. Willis: This subpoena says otherwise.
Ryan: Well, you're gonna have to go through me.
A.D.A. Willis: Well, it's easy enough to have you arrested.
Ryan: You son of a --
A.D.A. Willis: Not smart.
Erica: You are not going near anyone. You are not arresting anyone. You are not going near that little girl.
Kendall: We've been -- we've been trying so hard to prove that Annie killed Stuart and nothing works. Nothing works because I killed him.
Zach: Stop. Stop saying that, please. Trust me on that. Don't tell anybody what you told me. You killed Stuart? No, you didn't. Just promise me you won't tell anybody else. Go upstairs and sit with your boys. Watch them sleep. Watch them breathe. And remember that is what we're fighting for: Our kids, our family, us. Just promise me.
Kendall: I promise.
Zach: Give them a kiss for me.
Adam: Annie, you're overreacting.
Annie: No. I'm finally seeing the truth. I thought you loved me as much as I love you. I -- I thought we had a future.
Adam: We do. I just found you. We're still learning about each other.
Annie: You know, I've heard stories about you, too, you know, and your past, but I don't care because I know you. I love you more than any other man I've been with. If you can't love me, I'm gonna call that judge. I'd rather be spending this time in jail than with a man who's just bedding me for fun until I'm conveniently carted off.
Adam: Annie, I love you.
Annie: But you won't commit to me.
Adam: This has been a long day. I'll tell you what. Why don't we get a couple of nightcaps, and I will tell you every last thing I love about you.
Annie: I just want to be alone.
Adam: Ok. I'm going to bed. I hope you'll join me once you calm down.
Annie: You will marry me, Adam Chandler.
Jake: Ryan, listen. I know you want to beat this guy's face in, but there's other ways to handle it.
Ryan: The guy's got to be stopped.
Jake: There's other ways to handle it.
Ryan: He's got to be stopped. She's 7 years old. Ok? She's very fragile.
Jake: Ok. But you need to protect her, right, and you can't do that from behind bars. Just take a...
Jake: Take a deep breath. Damn. I got to go. Just take a deep breath. Stay away from this Willis guy.
Erica: No. That -- Emma has been through enough. This little girl -- she's been completely traumatized. The last thing she needs is to be battered by your questions.
A.D.A. Willis: This is a murder trial.
Erica: And this is a little girl who's on emotional edge.
A.D.A. Willis: Your concern for my witness is touching. But you can't protect your own daughter forever, and that's what this is about. You're keeping me from the one person who can prove your daughter's guilt.
Erica: At this particular moment, this little girl who's hospitalized -- she is the priority.
A.D.A. Willis: Well, I wanted to question her before she was put into the hospital.
Erica: So because you missed your opportunity, now you are willing to risk the emotional stability of a child? My God! You are worse than Henry North! Jesse, Jesse, please do something. Please speak to this man.
A.D.A. Willis: Will you please explain to Ms. Kane and Mr. Lavery that if they do not honor this subpoena, it is within my rights to have them both arrested. You have five minutes.
Ryan: Jesse, how did Willis know that we're even here?
Jesse: Zach called me.
Ryan: Zach? Zach is the reason Emma's here in the first place.
Jesse: He said that Emma is ready to talk. Some of my guys saw you come here, and Willis was notified.
Ryan: He's out of control. I mean, he hounded Emma. He scared the hell out of her. And now he sicced you guys?
Jesse: I'm sorry about Emma, but you really need to cooperate here. This Willis -- he's got the law on his side, and he's not afraid to use it. Randi?
Angie: She lost the baby.
Jesse: I thought she was gonna get better. I thought she was gonna be ok.
Angie: The contractions started. It was early in the pregnancy. There was nothing the doctor could do.
Randi's voice: Jesse, I can't go to jail. I -- I can't go to jail. Not now.
Jesse: I understand.
Randi: No, you don't.
Jesse: You're afraid. You're scared --
Randi: I'm pregnant! Jesse, you have to help me.
Angie: Jesse, are you ok? Jesse, stop it. Jesse, stop! Baby, stop it!
Jesse: I did it for the baby. Everything I did was for the baby.
Angie: What do you mean? What do you mean? Listen, you don't get to do this again. You don't get to shut down on me. Now, you tell me! What? What have you done?!
Dr. Meyer: Emma? Emma, will you talk to me?
Erica: I can't believe it, but it seems like we are gonna have to allow her to be questioned.
Ryan: And if Willis pushes too hard and Emma just shuts down and we lose her, I swear to you, I swear to God I will tear Zach apart.
Erica: You leave Zach to me.
[Zach takes a gun out of his safe and makes sure it's loaded]
Amanda: Oh, I'm so sorry. I don't know what I was thinking.
Tad: You're so lucky that the lieutenant didn't clock you.
Amanda: I didn't mean to scare you. I just -- I woke up, I heard Trevor crying in my sleep, and I just -- I had to see him, make sure he was ok.
Tad: Was there something wrong with the front door?
Amanda: But it's so late. I didn't want to wake Taylor up, and -- and I saw the window open. I just wanted to see my baby. I'm really sorry about the flat-screen. I will buy you a new one.
Taylor: No worries.
Tad: Buy me a flat-screen.
Amanda: How is he? Is he ok?
Tad: Oh, yeah. Sleeping like a baby. It's more than I can say for a half-hour ago. I thought he was gonna cough up a lung. It's entirely likely you heard him all the way across town. Then Taylor took care of it.
Amanda: Aw. Is it, um, is it ok if I stay for a little bit?
Taylor: You can stay as long as you need. Of course.
Tad: [No audio] It'll be like a slumber party without the slumber.
Taylor: You know what? He didn't actually finish his bottle. And he's going to wake up hungry, so I'll warm that up for you.
Tad: Yeah. The baby will probably want something, too, so I'll give her a hand.
Tad: Do me a biggie: Just don't tell anybody I let you handle the burglar.
Taylor: You have my word, unless, of course, I ever needed to blackmail you.
Tad: I'm guessing that baby proposition's off the table.
Ryan: How is she?
Dr. Meyer: Your daughter's withdrawal is a coping mechanism. It's an extreme defense, often the result of a deep-seeded fear and confusion.
A.D.A. Willis: I'm the new District Attorney Andrew Willis. I need to question Emma Lavery.
Dr. Meyer: Mr. Willis, Emma is very fragile. Any more pressure, more stress -- I really can't allow it. A subpoena?
A.D.A. Willis: I have a job to do. Doctor?
Dr. Meyer: All right. But I'll need to monitor the interview.
A.D.A. Willis: Agreed.
Jake: Hey. How's she doing?
Ryan: She's the same.
Jake: All right. Well, look what I stole from Pediatrics. I think it's gonna make her feel better. Ok? It's for her, not for you. Remember that. She's strong and she's resilient. She's gonna be all right.
[Jake hands Ryan some coloring books and crayons]
Ryan: Yeah, I'm not sure I'm gonna be all right. When your child's in pain, it just rips you apart.
Angie: I am not going to drop it. Now, tell me! It was Randi, wasn't it? I've seen the looks between you. What -- what is it?
Jesse: Leave it alone. Trust me, baby. Leave it alone.
Angie: Oh, God. Jesse, are you in danger?
Jesse: No, baby. Don't worry about me. Ok? We need to worry about our boy. He just lost his baby.
Zach: Not a good time, Erica.
Erica: Zach, why in the world would you tell Jesse where Emma was?
Zach: I had to do something. She was about to tell us the truth. And if Ryan hadn't come in, then she would've.
Erica: "If Ryan hadn't come in"? Ryan is her father. That would've been Ryan's call. Emma is practically catatonic. Did you know that she's in the hospital? And now Willis is there serving a subpoena.
Zach: That's Annie for you: Puts lies into everybody's head. First Emma, now Kendall.
Erica: Kendall? Oh, come on. Kendall would never believe any of Annie's lies.
Zach: Right. I'll take care of this tonight.
Erica: What do you mean?
Zach: Make sure Kendall stays here, doesn't answer the phone.
Erica: Zach? Zach!
Taylor: I'm thinking she's here for the night.
Tad: Oh, yeah. I'll get my cell phone and call Jake.
Tad: Are you crying?
Taylor: I have allergies.
Tad: You are crying. You are so crying.
Taylor: Well, I -- come on. Look at them. That's just pure love, you know? Peace. There's a storm raging outside. People's lives are filled with chaos. But right here and right now, all's right with the world. Huh. I'm sorry.
Tad: You know something, Lieutenant? You should really go easy on yourself. I mean, it's not a big deal if babies turn you into a quivering pile of emotional mush. It's like you said: All's right with the world. And how often does that happen?
Frankie: They're taking Randi to the O.R. for a D&C. Once she's out of recovery, I can take her home. I'll, uh, go check the schedule.
Angie: Baby, I'm so sorry.
Frankie: I promised Randi I would take care of her, give her a good life, keep her safe. I let her down.
Angie: This was out of your control.
Frankie: So what do I do now?
Angie: Baby, you love her. You heal with her. You make a wonderful life together.
[Angie hugs Frankie]
Randi: This is my punishment for killing Henry.
Jesse: Don't talk like that, ok?
Randi: I killed him, and now God's taken my baby.
[Jesse holds Randi's hand as she cries]
A.D.A. Willis: It must've been really scary that night, but it would really help if you told me what you saw. Emma? I know you're afraid, but it's really important that you tell me what happened that night.
Dr. Meyer: Mr. Willis, the child's obviously too traumatized to discuss the incident.
A.D.A. Willis: Emma, do you like to draw? Maybe you could -- you could draw me a picture of what happened. Could you do that for me?
Emma: I saw, Mommy. I saw.
Annie: You have to forget what you saw. Do you understand? If you love me, you have to forget.
A.D.A. Willis: Draw a picture, Emma. Show me who scared you that night. Can you -- can you do that for me?
[Emma writes on the blackboard: MOMMY]
Kendall: I didn't know you were here. Where's Zach?
Erica: He went out.
Kendall: In this weather? Where did he go?
Erica: Kendall, what did Annie do to you?
Erica: Zach said her lies have gotten to you.
Kendall: Well, Zach was wrong. Annie hasn't "gotten to me." I'm responsible for what I did, no one else. I did it, Mom. I shot Stuart.
Erica: No, you did not. That's impossible.
Kendall: Mom, Mom, please, please take care of the boys, and take care of Zach. And please, please, you have to be there for them.
Erica: Kendall, what are you talking about?
Kendall: I'm turning myself in. This has to end tonight before Zach does something stupid to protect me.
Erica: You are leaving over my dead body.
Kendall: That's a dangerous thing to say to a killer.
Annie: Ohh. So much for a Thanksgiving wedding.
Annie: December -- a Christmas wedding.
Adam: Annie? Are you down here?
[As Annie kneels next to a broken flower pot on the patio, Zach fires a shot into the door, putting a hole in the glass]
[As the gunshot rings out, Annie and Adam look stunned]
