Krystal: Have you seen Jenny's blanket? There is not a chance of a nap without that thing.
Tad: Check over by the ottoman. They were trying to help not too long ago, which leaves me to ponder whether or not sticky little handprints all over my nice pregnant rat are gonna help or hurt my profits. I'll tell you, man, if I didn't need this space--do you know how much we're gonna get for this?
Krystal: I think you're gonna have to pay somebody to take that thing away.
Tad: It shows you what you know. This is a Hollywood classic, man. This thing is a collectible.
Krystal: Ok. All right.
Krystal: No, no, listen. Maybe--maybe you should keep it. We can find another way to make room for the crowd in this house.
Krystal: Tad, you know I could always move out.
Tad: Don't--don't start, ok? Next thing you'll be telling me that you and David aren't making your back to not-so-wedded bliss.
Krystal: David is way too busy obsessing over Liza's baby.
David: You know, it's so funny, because people keep accusing me of being obsessed with babies lately. And yet every time I turn around, you're hovering over Liza's baby. Why is that, doctor?
Jake: Well, I'll try to explain it to you. See if you can follow along. It's something called "friendship," Dave. Now, I'll--I'll explain it to you, because I know it's hard for you. It's when 2 people, or several people, have no agenda, no ulterior motives. They just really want what's best for each other.
David: Right, right.
Jake: And since we're friends, Liza and myself, I kind of feel what's best for her is that she stays away from you.
Amanda: How's the baby.
Liza: Oh, he's doing just fine.
Amanda: Oh. Well, that's a relief.
Amanda: Hey, I'm glad you're ok.
Liza: Hey, you know, it's really not a good time.
Amanda: Ok. Liza--I'm sorry-- are you trying to keep me from your baby?
Liza: Honestly? Well, it's only been a few weeks since you've lost your son, and I don't want to make this any harder for you than--well, it already is.
Amanda: I'm never gonna stop missing my little boy. Do you mind if I hold him? Just for a second.
Liza: All right.
Amanda: Hi. Hi.
Erica: I've been watching you these past few months, watching you having to deal with Greenlee's death, and baring your heart and your soul to Kendall, facing down Zach. And now, standing strong, refusing to be pulled back into my daughter's sometimes very messed up world. You know, somewhere along the line, most men--they would have screwed up somewhere, taken the easy way out, run for cover. But not you. You've stayed true to yourself all along, and I just can't tell you how much I admire that, or how much I've always wanted to know a man with those qualities. And I just now realized -- here you've been all this time. Where did all that come from?
Ryan: Come on.
Erica: Come on where?
Ryan: You'll see. Come on.
Erica: Where are we going?
TV Reporter: It has been confirmed to us that the car found at the bottom of a ravine outside Washington, D.C., was indeed the one rented by local district attorney Henry North. The body found inside is believed to be North. Police are still investigating what may have caused the tragic crash. North was set to head into court this week for the Stuart Chandler murder trial.
Frankie: Are you ok? You don't look so well, baby.
Natalia: Mrs. North? There's been an accident.
Madison: What happened? Is it--is it Henry? Is he ok?
Natalia: I'm sorry, ma'am.
Madison: No. No, not my Henry.
Kendall: What happened?
Zach: D.C. cops found North in a burned-out car at the bottom of a ravine.
Kendall: A car accident?
Zach: Looks that way.
Kendall: What really happened?
Marissa: How about a carpet picnic? We hunker down right here. We have some food, find the perfect spot. Build a fort. You know what the best part is? No ants, except for me.
J.R.: Well, then, let's get this party started.
Marissa: Yeah. You ready for that?
Krystal: Sound asleep.
Tad: Krystal, go back. Why on earth would David give a damn about Liza's baby?
Krystal: I don't know. I don't know. I was at BJ's. Liza was there with her son. He seemed to have a fever, and David just--she was just all over him.
Tad: Is little Stuart ok?
Krystal: Yeah, yeah, he's fine. But David--I don't know. I mean, Liza warned him to stay away, but he wouldn't listen. He even went to the hospital to check on that child.
Tad: Why--why would he do something like that?
Krystal: It's like he just can't help himself, you know? Leora's death, my miscarriage. He wasn't able to be a part of Marissa or babe's life. I--I just think he feels cheated. I think he feels like he is owed a child. And I really thought when Amanda's baby died that that would be it, that he would be done with this baby craziness.
Tad: And instead he's sort of shifted into high gear, huh? I got to go. I'll be right back. I got to get some stuff.
Krystal: Tad, you're selling all this stuff.
Tad: Not this stuff. I, um, I got to get some sign stuff for the yard sale stuff.
[Knock at door]
Krystal: I told you it was over.
David: That's what you think.
Amanda: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I can't--
Liza: Oh, I'm sorry.
Jake: Hey. Hey, hey, hey. What is it? What happened now?
Amanda: I miss my baby, Jake. I miss him so much.
Ryan: Come on. You can do it.
Erica: It's easy for you to say.
Ryan: What, are you afraid? Take it off.
Erica: All right.
Erica: But just for you.
Ryan: You can do better than that.
Erica: My staff is helpless without me.
Ryan: Your staff can wait. No phone calls, no text, no e-mails. Come on.
Erica: Are you sure this is absolutely necessary?
Ryan: For what I have planned, it's absolutely necessary.
Kendall: The bottom of a ravine? The day before my trial?
Zach: You think I had something to do with it.
Kendall: Well, you said the only way to keep me out of prison was to stop North. He's been stopped dead. Was it you?
Angie: Come on. You need to sit. Baby, did you know about North?
Jesse: How could I have known? I just got the call. Uh, listen, I got to go. They're gonna want me to coordinate this with the D.C. Police, ok? I'll call you soon as I know more. Feel better.
Frankie: Hey, maybe you should lie down.
Randi: I can't. I've got a conference call at Fusion. I'll see you at home.
Angie: Randi? Take care of yourself.
Randi: I will.
Randi: Jesse, what are we gonna do?
Jesse: You stress, it's not good for the baby.
Randi: But they found the car already?
Jesse: Well, they were bound to sooner or later. I wish it were later, but it's not a problem, ok?
Randi: How can you say that?
Jesse: Because I'm gonna be a part of the investigation, all right? I'll give them my professional advice that there was no skid marks because he fell asleep at the wheel, the head wound is consistent with injuries sustained in the crash. Case closed. There's nothing to worry about.
Randi: Jesse, I killed a man. How am I supposed to live with that?
Jesse: Randi--self-defense, all right? The man was about to rape you. You were protecting yourself and your baby.
Randi: What if the police find out? What if there's DNA or if there's a witness.
Jesse: That's my department. You just make sure your alibi is air tight. Now you told Frankie you were going away on business, right?
Randi: For Kendall, but that I missed my flight.
Jesse: You find Kendall. You seal it up on that end. You have to be verifiable.
Randi: Why did I ever go to Washington?
Jesse: I will fix this. I promise.
TV reporter: With the sudden death of Pine Valley District Attorney Henry North, the murder trial of Kendall hart Slater has been thrown into question.
Frankie: You want a cracker? You look a little queasy, too, now.
Angie: You know, your dad was in Washington, D.C., last night.
Frankie: So? Wait. You think he has something to do with North's death?
Angie: Well, you know how he felt about Henry North, his tactics. I mean, Jesse's been so worried about this trial, and then this morning he told me that he probably wouldn't have to testify, and that everything would work out for Kendall. Now Henry North is dead, the trial is in limbo, and I have this feeling, Frankie. I don't like it.
Frankie: Listen. Dad is not a killer. It doesn't matter how upset he gets or who gets in his face.
Amanda: When will I forget what my baby looked like? Smelled like? Felt like? What those little baby breaths sound like. I mean, how long does that take, Jake? I can't go one second without thinking about him. How am I supposed to go an entire lifetime?
Jake: With me. I'm gonna help you.
Amanda: You can't. You can't give me back my baby.
Krystal: You say you want me, but you really just want a baby to nurture, grow, and love you back.
David: And what if my baby is already out there?
Krystal: What are you talking about?
David: I was told my son was dead, but I never saw him, Krystal. I wanted to, but Amanda convinced me that it was better for me to think of him in heaven. I can't believe I fell for it.
Krystal: Fell for what?
David: Jake and Amanda were ready to move to the other side of the planet to keep me away from my son. They would have done anything. But why not this? Why not just pretend my son is dead?
Cop: This was Mr. North's room.
D.A. North: Madison? Oh, thank God. Help me.
Madison: You said my husband was killed in a car accident. Why are we here? Cop: Well, detective Beckett found something. He has a few questions.
Zach: I went to Henry's room. He wasn't there. Next thing I know, he turns up dead in his rental car.
Kendall: Zach, you lied about killing Stuart to protect me. You're lying about something now. Can you please tell me what happened?
Zach: It doesn't matter what happened. North is gone. We have time to find the real killer.
Kendall: What did you do?
Zach: What do you--we have hope now.
Kendall: Well, you don't understand. If you did this, I mean if you really did, don't you get it? If you're taken away from me I have no hope at all.
Ryan: Ok, what's that?
Ryan: This sail on the front of the boat.
Erica: The jib.
Ryan: Good. What about this?
Erica: The boom.
Ryan: Very good. And what are you supposed to do when we tack?
Ryan: 10 for 10. I am extremely impressed.
Erica: Ok. Can we now go back for my phone?
Ryan: No, we can't. Let it go, woman, for a few hours, please.
Erica: People need me.
Ryan: You need to have fun.
Erica: I have fun.
Ryan: Really? Worrying about ratings and all that kind of stuff.
Erica: Oh, come on. You run a corporation, too.
Ryan: I delegate. I delegate. You should try it sometime.
Erica: Well, nobody can do what I do better than I can.
Ryan: Yeah. I know, superwoman, I know. But are you happy?
Erica: I love my work and my life, my family.
Ryan: But are you happy? Like, no regrets kind of happy?
Erica: Well, it wouldn't be so terrible if I had someone to share it with.
Ryan: Then what's stopping you?
Erica: I haven't met the right person yet.
Little Adam: Can we have s'mores?
J.R.: That would be kind of tough. There's no fireplace.
Marissa: But we have something better--connections. I'll make a call.
J.R.: Wow. This party just gets better.
Little Adam: Aunt Marissa is fun.
J.R.: Yeah. She's pretty great, isn't she?
Marissa: Hey. It's Marissa. Um, can I have a special delivery of s'mores?
David: Jake and Amanda hopped on a plane to get far away from me. Amanda goes into labor, my baby boy dies. A short time later Liza gives birth to a baby boy. Now what do these births have in common? Jake.
Krystal: You think that Liza's baby is yours?
David: Think about it, Krystal. Jake brought Liza here, to this house, to deliver the baby--not a hospital. And when we thought that the baby might be having--running a temperature, who do you think examined him? Jake.
Krystal: He's a doctor.
David: Then why does he keep wanting me to stay away from this child? As does Liza.
Krystal: Because maybe he thinks that you're being a lunatic stalker. Come on, what you are suggesting is just insane. I saw Amanda at the memorial service. She--those tears were real, David. The pain was real. She is grieving her son.
David: Of course she's grieving. Because Liza is raising her son.
Krystal: No. She is dealing with her loss, and you are not. So until you do, until you get right with this, I'm sorry, we don't have anything to talk about.
David: I am right about this.
Amanda: I'm sorry. I just feel like my heart has been ripped out. We just got married. We're newlyweds. We're supposed to be, you know, doing the honeymoon thing, and being stupid happy and--I don't know--naked. All I do is cry, and you--you deserve better. You deserve so much better than this.
Jake: Wait. What do you mean I deserve so much better? I don't want--I don't anybody else. I don't want someone. I--I'm--I want--
Amanda: I'm not good enough for you. I can't give you--
Jake: Stop it. Stop it, stop it, stop it. I don't want anybody else, ok? Well, wait a second. Wait. Yeah, I don't want anybody else. I don't want anybody else. I just want you. I just want you.
Amanda: You're so crazy to put up with me.
Jake: Well, you--you promised me forever. And I'm holding you to that.
Detective Beckett: Is this your earring, Mrs. North?
Madison: Not my style. It must belong to whoever was with Henry last night.
Randi: He started touching me. He started to put his hands on me and he wouldn't stop.
Jesse: Detective Beckett -- Jesse Hubbard, Police Chief, Pine Valley P.D. Can we talk?
Detective Beckett: Excuse me.
Jesse: Excuse me.
Detective Beckett: What brings you to D.C.?
Jesse: I'm joining the investigation.
Detective Beckett: My jurisdiction.
Jesse: My district attorney.
Detective Beckett: We'll keep you informed.
Jesse: Well, governor brooks says otherwise. You and your boys, you'll handle the accident site. I will handle the D.A.'S extracurricular activities.
Detective Beckett: Why would the governor of Pennsylvania care that the vic was messing around on his wife?
Jesse: Well, because his wife is a Beardsley. Her family helped put this guy in the governor's mansion. And if it gets out that this guy died entertaining a hooker--well, that kind of stink can rise all the way up to the governor's mansion. I think this guy would like avoid that kind of press.
Detective Beckett: Enjoy. I've got plenty of other public servants to clean up after.
Kendall: Zach, swear to me. Swear you had nothing to do with North's death.
Zach: I swear on our sons. Ok, good. Settled. Call jack. He's probably already working on a continuance. Now we have time to find the real killer.
Kendall: Ok. Well, it's back to Annie.
Zach: No, not back to Annie. Stay away from Annie.
Kendall: I know that she did it.
Zach: Let Jesse deal with it. Now that North is gone, he can deal with other suspects.
Kendall: No, I can't just do nothing.
Zach: Yes, you can. Focus on work, on the kids. Randi was supposed to have some meeting or something, missed her plane? I don't even know what that's about.
Kendall: Randi had a meeting for fusion?
Zach: Yeah. And that's something you got to focus on. I know you got other things to do.
Kendall: No, I mean my mom's been taking care of everything.
Zach: What's that look? Randi doesn't take meetings?
Kendall: Uh, well, no, unless it's about refilling the vending machine. She's our receptionist. That--that's weird. Ok, maybe I should check on things. Where are you going?
Zach: I got to figure something out. I'll be back.
Ryan: You were a star out there.
Erica: On land, on sea--stardom knows no bounds.
Ryan: Wasn't so bad, right?
Erica: No, it's nice.
Erica: Ok. It was one of the best afternoons I've had in...forever.
Ryan: And I bet I know why.
Erica: The company.
Ryan: Yeah. Because you took time for yourself. You relaxed and the world didn't come to an end.
Ryan: Oh, no. No, no, no.
Erica: Oh, no. No.
Ryan: I got it. I got it. Here. Take this. Ok, let's go. Not that way, not that way. This way.
Erica: Ok. Bailiff: Please be seated.
Judge Pearson: In the matter of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. Kendall Hart Slater. I understand the prosecution is requesting to delay the trial.
ADA Willis: Well, in light of Mr. North's death, I'll need time to review the case in order to argue the commonwealth's position.
Judge Pearson: Any objections?
Jack: No objections, your honor. In view of the circumstances, we think that Mr. Willis's request is fair.
Judge Pearson: Agreement. I like that. You have your continuance. Check back with me later today for the exact date.
ADA Willis: Yes, your honor.
Jack: Thank you, judge.
Judge Pearson: So ordered. This hearing's adjourned.
Kendall: Well. This is good. So why don't you seem happier about it?
Jack: I just think that North's demise is a little convenient.
Kendall: You think I had something to do with it? Jack: I didn't say that.
Kendall: Right. Right. I ran greenlee off the road, so of course I ran North off the road, too. You know what? Hell, maybe I even killed Stuart.
Jack: You were driving?
Kendall: I'm sorry, jack. I am so sorry.
Jack: So all this time you lied to me.
Kendall: I relive that moment every day.
Jack: And all those times I shared my grief with you over my dead daughter, your best friend, you couldn't bring yourself to say anything. You know, I can't do this. I can't represent you.
Kendall: Jack, please, please, please. I need you. Jack--
Jack: I quit.
Kendall: No, no. Jack--
Kendall: I miss her every day. Your life isn't the only one that fell apart after she died.
Jack: Find yourself another lawyer, Kendall.
J.R.: Hey, buddy, how about you go into the bathroom, see how much of that chocolate you can wipe off your face, ok? Go ahead. Thank you for the picnic and the fort and the s'mores. You made my son happy.
Marissa: If I had know you used to do this with babe, I never would have suggested it. The last thing I want to do is make you sad.
J.R.: Don't worry about what babe did or would have done. Just be yourself, because yourself is really amazing.
[Knock at door]
Little Adam: I'll get it.
David: Oh, hey, kiddo. What a great surprise.
Jake: Hey. So I got your message. What's up?
Krystal: It's David. He's gone so far off the edge I don't even know if I can talk him back.
Jake: You want to clue me in?
Krystal: Amanda's baby--he thinks because he didn't see the body that the baby is still alive, and he thinks that you planned the whole thing.
Jake: Well, he needs to get a life, or a puppy or something.
Krystal: Seriously, Jake, he won't let this go. And now he's convinced himself that Liza is in on the whole thing, that she faked her pregnancy or something, is trying to pass Amanda's baby off as her own. I mean, is that insane or what?
Jake: That's insane.
Liza: You know, I am gonna make sure that you have the best life ever. I know it wasn't easy getting here, but you are a very lucky little boy, because you have a mother that just loves you to pieces and a sister that adores you.
Tad: And a father who's never gonna quit on you.
Liza: You know, tad, I liked you a lot better when you were playing gun caps and darts.
Tad: You know, so did I. I just thought I owed it to you as a friend to warn you. Don't you let down your guard. David's got his sights set on this baby.
Randi: I actually tracked you down because I wanted to apologize. I was supposed to have a meeting with a distributor, and I missed the meeting because of airline trouble.
Kendall: Yeah, Zach mentioned something about that. Well, I think if you apologize to anyone, it should be my mom. I didn't really know anything about it. Maybe Zach is right. I--I should probably spend more time doing stuff at fusion.
Randi: Don't worry. We can manage. You have enough to worry about. I just want you to know--I think it's terrible the way that D.A. went after you.
Kendall: Well, I don't have to worry about that anymore, do I? It may sound awful, but I'm glad he's gone. I doubt anyone misses him.
Jesse: Mrs. North, I'm really sorry about your loss, and I'm sorry you had to find out about this.
Madison: My husband has been doing this for years.
Cop: Chief Hubbard?
Jesse: Why are you here?
Zach: I was gonna ask you the same thing. How you doing?
Madison: My husband's dead. How do you think I'm doing?
Zach: Any sign of foul play?
Jesse: Why? You here to confess?
Zach: No, just making sure Kendall doesn't get charged for another crime she didn't commit. She was at Chandler's last night, for the record.
Jesse: For the record, I was informed by my crew that she was lucky she wasn't arrested again.
Zach: Yeah. So we're clear.
Jesse: Anything else I can help you with? I got to get back to this.
Zach: There is one thing. How exactly are you helping the locals?
Jesse: Just tying up some loose ends.
Madison: You mean covering them, don't you, Chief Hubbard? We all know what my husband was doing here. I would prefer if the rest of the world did not.
Jesse: Your husband died in a car crash. The press doesn't need to know anything else.
Madison: So there will be no mention of the earring that was found.
Madison: Thank you. Henry always took great care to cover his own tracks, so hopefully his private affairs will die with him.
Zach: An earring, huh? You think it was Randi's?
Jesse: What does Randi have to do with any of this?
Zach: Let's assume for one moment that you and I have the same information.
Jesse: What, that Randi had an out-of-town business meeting, but morning sickness changed her plans and she stayed in pine valley? Detective Beckett: Chief?
Jesse: Anything else?
Zach: Making sure everything is covered.
Jesse: What you got?
Detective Beckett: When I got on the scene I asked the hotel to turn over the security tapes.
Jesse: You got the tapes?
Detective Beckett: That's the problem. Hotel says they're missing.
Ryan: Ok. First thing tomorrow, I'm gonna buy you a new phone.
Erica: I don't need a new phone. My life is in that one. I need a bag of rice.
Ryan: A bag of rice?
Erica: Mm-hmm. Rice will draw the moisture out of the phone.
Ryan: You know, I think you caught heatstroke out there. Could I see if you have a fever?
Erica: No, you need to pay attention. You could learn something.
Ryan: Well, I definitely believe that.
Erica: Ok. You get the rice. I'll get the towels.
Ryan: All right.
David: And what are these?
Little Adam: We had a carpet picnic, and that's s'mores.
David: Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun.
J.R.: Yeah, it was. But we have to get going, Little A, so thank your aunt Marissa.
Little Adam: Thank you, Aunt Marissa.
J.R.: And I'll see you soon, ok?
Marissa: Look, if you're gonna start in on a lecture, I'm a little old for you to tell me who I can see.
David: No lectures. I think your baby brother is still alive.
Liza: David has no reason to think that this is his son.
Tad: Since when does David need a reason to think anything?
Liza: Look, Amanda held her son when he was born, and she held him yesterday, and she didn't recognize him. I'm not exactly worried that all of a sudden David's gonna think that my son has his eyes.
Tad: The only reason you got away with anything with Amanda is because she thinks he's being raised by some storybook couple out there in a country cottage.
Liza: And if David has questions, believe me, I will come up with answers, and so will Jake.
Tad: I'm sure you'll try. The truth's gonna come out, Liza. It always does. And when it does, this perfect little scheme of yours is gonna get ripped to shreds.
David: I came to you because you're a lawyer. You can look at the facts, follow the logic, prove I'm right.
Marissa: Or not.
David: Fine. If I'm wrong, I'll let it go. I swear.
Marissa: You really believe that Liza's raising your baby as hers?
David: Yes, I do. Think of it like this, Marissa--does another child really deserve to grow up not knowing the truth about who they are?
Jake: Why are you even listening to David Hayward? I thought you saw the light. I thought that--first of all, Krystal, you know the guy's only got 2 speeds, right? He's got torture and decimate. Don't let him suck you back in. Don't. What?
Krystal: You haven't denied it.
Jake: I haven't denied it. Why would I--it's just completely irrational.
Krystal: Jake, I know how easy it is to fiddle with blood tests. So I know what David's suggesting isn't nearly as crazy as it sounds. Come on, Jake. Tell me the truth, all right? Tell me that Liza's baby is Liza's and not David's.
[Knock at door]
Kendall: Hey. Did you hear about North? He's dead.
Kendall: Yeah. It's a car accident. The judge granted us continuance, which means that we have more time to prove that Annie killed Stuart.
Kendall: Ryan, I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I never meant to hurt you. I just--I got so freaked out, you know, I was so sure that I was gonna get sent away to prison for life, and the idea of being away from my boys and everyone I care about--
Ryan: Don't forget Zach.
Randi: What happened? Do they suspect anything?
Jesse: Your earring.
Randi: Oh, my God. I completely forgot all about that. Did the cops find it?
Jesse: Yeah. They didn't know it belonged to you, and they never will find out. But there is something else. Security footage of the corridor outside North's room--it's missing.
Randi: Security footage? Did you take it?
Jesse: No, no. Apparently North did. His wife said the man is a master at covering his tracks, so my guess is he paid security to pull the tapes before you even showed up at the hotel.
Randi: So, no tapes means--
Jesse: No earring. No proof that you were ever there.
[Knock at door]
Zach: You wanted to see me?
Madison: Come in. I have something that I think you're going to find very interesting. This is Henry's -- case files, notes, strategy for the trial. Every dirty trick he was gonna trot out to crucify your wife. Whoever's taking over for the prosecution would do anything for this. It's yours.
Zach: You did it. You killed him.
