Jake: Hi. You all right?
Amanda: Uh, Opal blew in first thing this morning.
Jake: She gave you the casualty report.
Amanda: It's horrendous. Stuart dead. Tad really shot in the head. I mean -- is Tad ok?
Tad: Welcome back, you magnificent woman.
Liza: Well, for a guy that just came out of brain surgery --
Tad: You have no idea. Just sorry we didn't hook up before you went to the sperm bank. Worst you and I could've done is a rock star.
Liza: Well --
Tad: Yeah, with your brains, your looks, my obvious passion for karaoke. Woof.
Liza: Yeah, you know the last time I asked you, you turned down the role of doting dad.
Tad: Oh, come on. Don't be unfair. I was timid. I was tame. I was palace eunuch. Different times, different man. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the "grab what's most important in life" Thaddeus martin. I'm -- seriously, give it a shot.
Liza: Don't threaten me with a good time.
Liza: Hey, now wait. Ok, did this all happen before or after the bullet to the brain?
Tad: Oh, come on, Liza, not -- come here just a second.
Tad: Yeah. No, seriously, you know everybody is saying the same thing. It's getting really tiring. I mean, first off Jake's doing 1,000 tests. Who gives a damn? The fact is I feel better than I have in years.
Liza: Ok. All right. So, who's the jealous husband that shot you?
Tad: Hmm, still quick. I like it. It was Jesse. It was a dark night and he mistook me for a yeti. You know, big hair? See what I did there?
Tad: And if I were you, I'd watch myself this time around, sister.
Liza: Why's that?
Tad: Because he's the chief cop.
Liza: Get out.
Tad: Chief of police, my hand to God. I'm just happy he wasn't a lumberjack.
Liza: Ok, why?
Tad: Well, how many lumberjacks does it take to switch a light bulb?
Liza: How many?
Tad: One, but they use chainsaws. Trust me. Kissing me wouldn't have been near as much fun for you.
Adam: Obviously it wasn't my body. It was somebody else, somebody who looks like me, who -- oh, God. Stuart. Oh, St -- oh!
Annie: Adam? Oh my God. Adam?
Emma: Mommy, is he dead?
Annie: No, no, sweetie. Aidan's going to help him. It's ok.
[Adam breathes heavily]
Annie: Let's get him up the stairs. Your shoulder could be broken. Be careful, it's ok. I know CPR, I know CPR. Come on. Careful.
Krystal: Adam and Stuart were joined at the heart.
David: Krystal, don't you know this by now? Adam doesn't have a heart. I don't know what I was thinking. I should've taken him out in one single stroke instead of some drawn out plan.
Krystal: You've had some other plan to kill Adam? Is that what you're telling me?
Natalia: We found these in the Chandler attic.
Angie: Adam Chandler, three pills, two times a day.
Natalia: Well, why would they both be empty? It's dated for just a week ago.
Angie: You know, something is off about this label. I'm going to get to the bottom of it.
Ryan: This is proof, Jesse, that Emma was in the Chandler attic, ok, and she didn't get there by herself. And in the message that Annie left me, there was a gunshot in the background which means they were at the house when all the craziness happened, ok? And you had a dozen guys there, man, and not one of them found that secret door?
Jesse: You're right. Ryan, there's absolutely no excuse for my shoddy, ineffective police work.
Ryan: If your guys had just done their job, Jesse, then Annie would be in custody and Emma would be home. Do you understand? With me.
[Annie performs CPR]
Annie: Breathe, Adam, breathe.
J.R.: Shouldn't we cover his face?
Scott: And forget him? Forget that someone shot my dad instead of yours?
J.R.: That's not what I meant. I loved your father.
Scott: Everybody loved my father, J.R., and your dad is public enemy number one. The evil twin outsmarted the killer and left my dad to take the hit.
J.R.: My dad's pretty low, but there's no way he would ever do anything to put Uncle Stuart at risk.
Scott: Then why did my father leave his clothes at your house and change into a suit?
J.R.: That I can't explain.
Scott: I can. Your father is out there somewhere, lucky and glad to be alive.
J.R.: There's no way that my dad would be feeling lucky if he knows that his twin brother is dead.
Aidan: Annie, this may be it.
Annie: No. Come on, come on. Adam, stay with me, fight. Work with me. Work with me.
Aidan: He's breathing. He's breathing.
Tad: Right, why don't we just boogie?
Liza: Ok, really? You can't be serious.
Tad: Absolutely not. Not if you've noticed, but being serious is bad for your health around this place.
Liza: All right. You know what? I will dance with you after I have my baby.
Tad: Call it a hunch. I don't think you're going to be up for it.
Liza: Well, maybe not directly from the delivery room.
Tad: Now who's being timid?
Liza: All right, you, if you don't stay put, I'm going to leave. You'll be dancing in an empty room.
Tad: Yeah. One thing's for sure, you used to be a lot more fun.
Liza: Oh, right, when we were having sex on the weekends, and you were having sex with my mom weekday afternoons, hmm?
Tad: Wasn't exactly my finest moment.
Tad: But it sure was fun sneaking around like that. Gives you a buzz right in the seat of your pants, know what I mean?
Liza: Tad the cad. You know, you really did live up to your name, but it wasn't completely all your fault. My mother, she was out of control. You know, they would call her a sex addict these days, but Stuart changed all that. He really made her happy, and I don't know what she's going to do now that he's gone.
Scott: If Uncle Adam was so devoted to my father then why haven't we heard from him yet?
J.R.: The person that killed Uncle Stuart may have killed my dad, too.
Scott: Oh, I doubt that, J.R. Your father's way too slick.
J.R.: Not lately. I wouldn't insult your bond by saying I know what you're feeling, but I do know grief. I've lived it.
Scott: I've got to go back in.
J.R.: You want me to wait for you?
Scott: No, I don't care. I'm sorry, Dad. I'm sorry. That damn valve. I was like a stupid kid showing off his new toy, and now you're gone and that toy may never save a single life. I remember when mom died, and I couldn't sleep, and you would read to me every single night. And then you found that poem that -- or maybe you made it up, I -- I never got to ask you which. "The sun goes down, the moon comes up, and the stars light up the sky, and angels swoop down from heaven to watch over their loved ones at night. Forget the day, close your eyes, let go of your fears, don't cry. Let sleep invite your special angel to nestle near to your heart. She'll guide you through the darkness and kiss your cheek as she takes flight." Dad, please guide me through this darkness if you can hear me. I am so sorry. I love you more than anything or anyone in this world.
[Scott sighs then sobs in J.R.'s arms]
Jesse: We're doing another sweep of the Chandler estate and the neighboring spreads, all right?
Ryan: If -- if Annie has hooked up with Adam, then they both have the motive to run.
Jesse: Maybe, maybe not.
Ryan: No, Adam has got the killer after him and then Annie has got the cops after her, and Adam's smart. He's crafty. He's got a lot of money, Jesse. He could get them both out of the country.
Jesse: Be right with you. Ryan, if I hear of anything, I will let you know.
Ryan: Don't -- don't bother, ok? Because I'm going to be here. I'm not going anywhere.
Annie: Take it easy. Deep breaths. Don't panic.
Adam: What happened?
Annie: Your heart stopped for a minute, but we got it going again.
Emma: My mommy saved you.
Adam: Where are we?
Annie: Don't -- don't worry. You're safe here, but you have to get to a hospital. Aidan will take you. She and I will wait here.
Aidan: Annie, can I have a word?
Aidan: Ever since you got back from The Maldives, where you promised me you'd stay, you've done nothing but lie to me when it suits you and take crazy risks. You expect me to help you now? The answer is no.
Annie: No to what, Aidan? Getting Adam to a hospital? He could go into another cardiac arrest. Do you really want Adam's life in your hands? Look, I am sorry. I know I was a little out of control before, but everything's -- everything's more clear now.
Aidan: So, huge epiphany, and you just expect everything to be all right?
Aidan: No, listen to me. Last night was -- was a horror show, ok? And I made a real mess of things lately, and I need you to walk me through it. I need your help.
Aidan: Why should I?
Annie: Listen. I left my fake passport here, ok?
Aidan: I've got it right here. You can take it.
Annie: Ok, well you can have it back. Emma and I will wait here. You can keep this. Without a passport, where am I going to go?
David: Just let it go.
Krystal: David, if you had been trying to hurt Adam, you need to tell me right now.
Krystal: There's nothing to tell.
Angie: He's right. You don't need your lying devil husband to tell you a thing, because even if he confided, not a word he said would be true.
Krystal: Angie, this is a private conversation.
Angie: Which will soon involve the police. Uh, does this look familiar?
David: A pill bottle. Extraordinary.
Angie: Oh, don't be shy. Take a good look.
David: Adam Chandler's heart meds. And the significance of this is?
Angie: Natalia found them at the mansion, and the funny thing is, the prescription label is a forgery.
Angie: From this hospital pharmacy. Your hospital.
David: Well, then someone's certainly going to have to pay for that, huh?
Angie: Oh, good, because we also found residue in the pill bottle, and my hunch is -- not heart meds at all. Something toxic and possibly illegal.
David: Something I cooked up in my secret lab and subbed for Adam's pills, is that it?
Angie: Easy enough for a genius like you.
David: Keep me posted on that.
Angie: Oh, you'll be the first to know.
Krystal: Everything you told Angie was an out and out lie. You have been dosing Adam with something bad. How bad? Will he die?
David: Is Adam going to die? Yeah, eventually, just like you and I. Sooner or later we all turn to dust, right?
Krystal: What have you done to Adam?
David: Not a thing. But, hey, if you don't believe me, why don't you join ranks with the Hubbards, the Martins, the Chandlers and try to run me out of town.
Krystal: If you love me then you trust me, and if you trust me you will tell me. Have you been dosing Adam with meds? Have you been switching his heart medicines with -- with something you cooked up on your own?
Aidan: Excuse me. This man needs help.
Nurse: Sir, we're very busy.
Aidan: He's had a heart attack.
Aidan: We gave him CPR but who knows what's going to happen?
Nurse: Ok, sir, just relax. Ok, sit down. All right, get this man to cubicle two stat.
Jake: Adam Chandler back from the dead?
David: You love me, right? You say you trust me and yet you kept Marissa from me. Now, what was that supposed to mean?
Krystal: Is this payback? You trying to prove a point, huh? I -- I wouldn't tell you so you're not going to tell me.
David: All right, look. Adam has been having some memory issues, losing his train of thought. Everyone's noticed. It's not going to kill him, all right? It's just going to render him unfit to raise a child, my grandchild.
Krystal: You did that?
David: Yes. Do you have a problem with that?
Krystal: Yeah, big problem, if you get caught.
David: I'm not going to get caught.
Krystal: Did you hear Angie?
David: Angie the fierce. I'm terrified.
Krystal: David, I love you. Please promise me you will stop dosing Adam, ok? Swear to me. I need your word on this.
Gayle: There's a patient in the emergency room that requires your immediate attention. Adam Chandler.
J.R.: He going to be ok?
Jake: Yeah, it looks like he will be.
Adam: Oh, wait, wait, wait.
Jake: I'm going to go light a fire and do your blood work. Is that all right?
Adam: Yeah. Ok.
J.R.: Where the hell have you been?
Adam: What difference does it make?
J.R.: Because you scared us half to death. Where have you been? Why didn't you call? Who were you with?
Adam: Drop the act. There's no audience. You were going to shoot me to death.
Annie: You must be so tired, my angel. Why don't you close your eyes for a minute? Go to sleep.
Emma: I'm really proud of you, Mommy. You did a really good thing tonight.
Annie: Well, thank you, baby. I love you so much.
Emma: I love you, too, but I don't like this place.
Annie: What's wrong, babe?
Emma: I miss my daddy.
Jesse: Get a squad car over to sector five. I need a status report right away.
[Cell phone rings]
Ryan: Who's this?
Annie: It's me.
Ryan: Where are you? Where -- where's Emma?
Annie: Close by.
Ryan: Bring her home, Annie.
Annie: Go back to the penthouse.
Ryan: Bring her home.
Annie: No police, just you alone.
Ryan: Ok, just me, all right? How is Emma?
Annie: She needs to come home.
Jesse: Hey. Adam's at the hospital. I'm on my way over there now. You can come with me or --
Ryan: No, I'm good, I'm good. I -- just -- just will you just please call me if you find anything, ok?
Tad: Do you know the number one cause of death? Life. It's a temporary situation at best. Some people are born, some people die. I mean, think about it. If nobody ever took an exit, it'd be impossible to get a good table at a restaurant. Nothing. Ok. So, um, why you back in Pine Valley?
Liza: Colby. Yeah, I planned this big reunion and she wants no part of it.
Tad: So tell her a light bulb joke.
Liza: Don't think it's going to work.
Tad: Well, you won't know unless you try. After all, you know how many poets it takes to screw in a light bulb?
Liza: How many?
Tad: Two. One to curse the darkness and another to light a candle.
[Adam breathing heavily]
Adam: Why didn't you shoot me?
J.R.: Like I really could.
Adam: Well, it doesn't take -- doesn't take a superman to gun down somebody he despises.
J.R.: Do I hate you? Yes. Do I love you? Yes. Live with it. I do.
Adam: Not well.
J.R.: No, not well. Agreed. So why are you here? What happened to you?
Adam: My heart stopped, or so they tell me. Damn. Why doesn't this room stop spinning?
Krystal: Angie is doing a tox screen on Adam. We have got to get out of town. I'll figure out a way to get Jenny.
David: Sorry, I can't do that, Krystal.
Krystal: What have you got to lose? Babe is gone, Marissa is gone.
David: I still have another child here, well, a child on the way.
Tad: [In Asian accent] Ah, another flowering lotus blossom. It's like one big e-mail from Buddha around here.
Jake: Liza, is that really you?
Liza: Me and three quarters of another person.
Jake: Wow. What are you doing in Pine Valley?
Liza: My daughter, although she is trying to resign from that position.
Tad: Oh, come on. Knock it off. Colby will make it around. You'll see. Once she has that baby. Nobody loves babies like that kid. She helped deliver Jenny.
Liza: Colby? My squeamish daughter?
Amanda: Not so squeamish anymore.
Liza: Hi. I'm sorry. Have we met?
Amanda: A long time ago. Amanda Dillon.
Liza: Oh, well my gosh. The last time I saw you, you were a little girl on a bicycle. Time just zooms on by, huh?
Jake: Can I -- maybe I could talk to you for a minute? Can I borrow her?
Tad: Yeah, sure. Just don't ask her to dance.
Liza: Ok, you know what? Why don't we take a little walk. It was nice to meet you.
Amanda: You, too.
Liza: And you, I'll be right back.
Tad: I'm counting on it. Bring some laughs and some of those gloves. Yeah, yeah, got to get 'em, got to get 'em.
Tad: You. You're so much fun to look at. No, magnificent inside and out. Anybody ever tell you that today?
Amanda: Uh, not so much anymore.
Tad: Oh, come on. No wonder my brother loves you so much. Why don't you have mercy on him?
Amanda: Jake's miserable?
Tad: Around a tomato like you? Bachelorhood's hell on a single guy. Hey, what do you know? Somebody finally gets the act. You guys need to elope. Get out of here with that baby as far, as fast away as you can. Take him away from that snatcher that will not be named.
Liza: So, I heard about Adam. I thought Colby would need me, and now I find out it's Stuart, so I'm waiting for my mother to come back.
Jake: What -- what is the point of all of this?
Jake: I -- I know it's fake. You don't have to do that.
Liza: Seven plus months, same as Amanda. I think that works out pretty well, don't you think?
Jake: But you're not -- you're not adopting Amanda's baby.
Liza: No, I'm -- I'm having Amanda's baby. Come on, tell me. How brilliant is that?
Aidan: Annie? Dammit.
Ryan: Oh, my little princess. Oh, I missed you so much. Are you ok? Are you ok? Is anything wrong? Are you hurt or anything?
Emma: I'm fine.
Ryan: I love you so much. Hey, listen. Why don't you run upstairs and get all your bath toys together, ok? I'll be up there in one minute. I promise, ok? You go ahead. I'll be right up there. I'll be right up there. I thought I'd never see her again.
Annie: Truthfully, that was the plan.
Ryan: It's not the police, Annie. I kept my word.
Aidan: Is Emma here?
Ryan: Yeah, she is. She's upstairs.
Aidan: So what now?
Annie: Emma's home now. I wanted to take her, but then last night became hell on earth. Gunshots, Adam afraid for his life, running from hole to hole. It was awful for me and traumatic for her. What kind of a mother puts her child through that?
Ryan: So that's why you brought her back? To be a good mother?
Annie: Emma missed her dad. I can't cut her off from the father that she loves so much, and then Emma said that she was proud of me, and it pretty much broke my heart.
Aidan: Adam Chandler died right in front of us. His heart stopped. His lips turned blue. Annie gave him mouth to mouth and CPR, and she wouldn't give up. Adam Chandler would be in the morgue with his brother if it wasn't for Annie.
Annie: Proud of me. She said that she was proud of me, and that's when I realized then and there that I have to stop this. I have to stop running and -- and plotting and lying. I want my daughter to be proud of me for life.
Ryan: Make me believe. Call the cops and turn yourself in.
Krystal: You signed the papers. You swore you didn't want Amanda's baby. Was that just another lie?
David: No, no, it was not another lie. It was true at the time. But then we lost Little Adam. And Marissa came and went. I'm sorry, Krystal, but I need something to hang on to.
Krystal: You can't hang on to me?
David: I love you so much. I really love you.
Krystal: But not quite enough. Because I can't give you a baby.
Amanda: Jake and me and the baby, it's -- it's a beautiful dream, but it's just a dream. He hasn't proposed.
Tad: You're kidding. That's a formality.
Amanda: Where in the world could we possibly go where David couldn't find us?
Tad: I don't think David would get too far wrapped from head to toe in piano wire, you know? A couple of clown shoes on his feet. Oh, I'd do it for you. And I'd do it for Jake in a second. There's only one thing that you can do for me. Get me the hell out of this cracker box.
Liza: You said that Amanda doesn't want to see the baby. She wants it whisked away the moment that it's born. She's never going to know that my baby is hers.
Jake: Yeah -- no, no, I get it. But I'll know. And I'm not -- I can't lie to her.
Liza: Don't lie. Just be discrete.
Jake: No, I -- I'm not doing that. I'm not -- I'm not.
Liza: Well, that's -- that's really a shame, because if my baby doesn't arrive on the due date, then David's going to find out that his baby is alive and that you two faked the stillbirth to deprive him of his child.
Jake: Ohh. You're going to blackmail me.
Liza: I'm negotiating.
Jake: Oh, really? Well, you know what?
Jake: All bets are off. Forget it. You should just really leave town.
Liza: Uh, you know I've never been very good at taking orders.
Jake: No, I mean it. You should really just back off. And leave Amanda alone, while you're at it.
Annie: I'll call the police. But first, a favor? Let me give Emma her bath. Let me wash her hair and brush it dry. Let me explain to her. Let me explain to her that I'm going away again, and it might be for a really long time. Let me just promise her that she'll always be in my heart no matter where I am. Please, Ryan, let me just put her to bed and kiss her goodbye and watch her fall asleep, because it might be the last time. Please, Ryan, you can come with me, ok? You can watch me and stay there, but please...
Emma: Mommy, come and see my new doll. Mommy, where are you?
Ryan: Your daughter's waiting for you.
Krystal: You would risk your career and your freedom to stake a claim on Amanda's baby?
David: Krystal, you're overreacting. There is absolutely no risk to me whatsoever. Excuse me, I'm going to be taking over Adam Chandler's case.
Jake: Oh, actually, no, that's not true.
Angie: We analyzed the pill residue. Benzodiazepine and digitalis.
Jake: Depression, confusion, impaired judgment and thinking. That's what the combo of these two pills can do in small doses.
Angie: Give the patient a heavy dose, and we're looking at seizures and cardiac arrest.
David: Then I guess I'm going to have to get to the bottom of this, huh?
Angie: Oh, we are three steps ahead of you, David.
Liza: All right, you know what? Show is over. Time for us to clear out and you? It's naptime.
Tad: Now, uh, excuse me, I'm sorry. I don't take orders from the shrimp, ok? I order the shrimp, usually with a nice cocktail sauce.
Liza: I give up. You're going to have to take that up with Jake. Let's go. Please just go to sleep.
Tad: Yeah, fat chance.
Liza: Oh. So, I, uh -- I finally reached my mother, and I didn't want to say this in front of Tad, but she is completely devastated. She is falling apart. You know, I think -- I think I'm going to have to stay around for a little while.
Amanda: It's hard to deal with emotional stuff when your hormones are raging wild.
Liza: Amen. So how far along are you?
Amanda: Oh, almost eight months.
Liza: Oh, really, me, too. That's funny.
Liza: So have you started all your birthing classes?
Amanda: Ah, no. The natural stuff creeps me out.
Liza: Yeah, well, I did it once long ago. I guess I've repressed all the bad stuff.
Amanda: You're telling me there are good parts?
Liza: Yeah, maybe -- not. Except for the baby, of course. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I upset you?
Amanda: No, no, it's just the hormones, you know.
Liza: Oh, I know, I know. I mean, one minute I'm weeping and the next minute I'm flying high.
Amanda: Yeah, yeah, this little guy does that to me all the time.
Liza: Little guy, huh? You know it's a boy.
Liza: Yes, well, I'm kind of getting the feeling mine is a boy, too.
Jesse: Adam, can you tell us how you got here and who you were with before you got here?
Adam: It was a, uh -- it was a woman and -- and a child. Annie and Emma. And there was a man with them. Had that accent. Aidan. Aidan Devane.
Jesse: Where were you?
Adam: Somewhere dark and damp. Aidan -- Aidan kept looking at me strangely, as if he was wondering why I was alive. I told him it's -- no, not me. It's not me. I made it. Somebody came to my house. Somebody who looked like... Somebody who... Oh, please tell me it's not Stuart. Please tell me he isn't dead.
Annie: She's such a good girl. She's so mature for her age. Hi, could you please connect me to the Pine Valley Police Department? An emergency? No -- well, yes. This is Annie Lavery, and I'm wanted by the police. I'd like to turn myself in.
Tad: Nurse Gayle. You are a total vision. Let's dance.
Gayle: Mr. Martin, this is not a good idea.
Tad: Not an idea at all. It's just fun.
Tad: And now the dip.
[Tad faints and hits the floor]
Jake: We called for an emergency meeting of the Ethics Committee to review the details of Adam Chandler's case. If I were you, I'd probably clear out my desk.
David: Mm, well, you're not me. Not even close.
Jake: That's good, because you're going to need an attorney. You're probably going to get charged for the attempted murder of Adam Chandler.
Jesse: I'm going to give you some time, ok?
Adam: Stuart's gone? My brother's dead!
J.R.: I'm so sorry.
Adam: No, no!
Amanda: Hey, if you need a doctor's referral or prenatal classes, just call.
Liza: Oh, thank you.
Amanda: Yeah, it was good to see you.
Liza: You, too. Bye-bye. Oh -- oh, my. If it isn't the ghost of Jesse Hubbard.
Jesse: Liza damn Colby. Plus one.
Liza: So how the hell are you?
Jesse: Busy with the Chandler murder case.
Liza: Mm. Yes, I know. My mother is in pieces.
Jesse: Adam was the likely target. It's funny, you just now hitting town. So why don't we just cut to the chase? Where were you when Stuart Chandler was shot?
