J.R.: Little Adam's got the most amazing imagination. We were playing explore. We got lost in the rain forest. It was good times. Good times, Pop.
Adam: Yeah, well, while you were playing in your make believe jungle, your cousin Scott has a real life press conference.
Scott: To call this heart valve a medical breakthrough would be an understatement. It's a medical miracle. Cardiac care, as we know it, will be changed forever, and Chandler Enterprises is proud to finance this endeavor and promises to see it through every development stage through surgery and beyond.
J.R.: That weasel. He went behind my back so he could beat me to the punch.
Scott: You're damn right I did.
Kendall: What time is it?
Ryan: Almost noon.
Kendall: Hmm. I could stay like this forever. It feels perfect, but that seems impossible.
Ryan: Mm, it feels perfect because it is. It is perfect. We are exactly where we belong.
Kendall: Almost noon? Oh my God. It's almost noon. I've got to go to work. I'm running late. I -- I have so much -- so many things to do at Fusion, and -- and if I'm not there doing them, my mother is. I've got to go.
Erica: And take this to marketing right away.
Erica: Ok. Amanda, I'm very busy.
Amanda: Exactly why you should give me my job back.
Erica: You quit.
Amanda: Only because I didn't want to give Adam the satisfaction of firing me.
Erica: Amanda, Fusion is on life support. We are all working 'round the clock, and we will continue to do that until this company is back on track.
Amanda: Fine. Great. I can handle it.
Erica: Amanda, you're expecting a baby. Are you sure you would even want to work this schedule?
Amanda: I'm positive.
Erica: Ok, you may say that now, but, I mean, once the baby comes, I mean, what if you're not able to tear yourself away? And I know you and David are going to have a great big custody fight, and, anyhow, those first few months is really about bonding with your baby.
Amanda: I just really need this job right now. I just need to get my mind off of this baby.
Erica: Amanda, what are you saying?
Zach: Yep, Ryan told me about this. I want to have no part of it.
Tad: Zach, you are part of it, but, you see, you have to read this thing. You're the only person that can possibly separate the truth from the lies.
J.R.: I wanted to go public with that heart valve two weeks ago. You were waiting for me to back off so you could grab the spotlight yourself.
Adam: Well, Scott just took my challenge to heart.
J.R.: Your challenge? Your challenge is a joke. I don't need six months to prove that I should be taking over Chandler. It's an insult, Dad. I shouldn't have to compete with this loser.
Adam: This loser just won the first round. If I were you --
Scott: Look, my press conference -- it had nothing to do with one-upping J.R. I wanted to get a jump on the competition to let everybody know that our valve will hit the market first.
J.R.: Would you listen to this guy? You're letting him speak for our company?
Adam: Scott just took you out with his first shot, so shake it off and fight back.
Scott: I brought in a team of top biomedical engineers to pick up where Dr. Chappell left off and finish the final stages. They have been in the lab 24/7. The prototype is pretty much done. We are ready for a clinical trial.
J.R.: These engineers must be costing a fortune. Talk about irresponsible spending.
Scott: It'll be worth it in the long run. The sooner we get FDA approval, the sooner that we can start saving lives.
Adam: Yeah, the sooner my huge investment in this device will pay off.
J.R.: I need to make some phone calls. I can't wait to hear the unbiased response to the big announcement that just might cost us everything.
Adam: Well, I guess it's, um, a bit early for champagne. Well, we could toast anyway to lighting a fire under my good for nothing son.
Scott: Beating J.R. is the last reason that I'm doing this.
Erica: Amanda, at this stage of pregnancies, most mothers would enjoy being less focused on work and more curious about, is it going to be a boy or a girl, what color should I paint the nursery, how is it going to be when they first look in their babies eyes for the first time.
Amanda: Well, I know that most mothers would want to think about all that, but I, um, --
Jake: Sorry. Um, I -- I didn't even know that you -- you were gone. I was looking for you. I didn't know you left the house.
Amanda: I came to ask for my job back. So, what do you think?
Erica: Look, I -- I don't know. Let me just think about it.
Amanda: Thank you.
Jake: I, uh, I didn't -- I didn't even know. I didn't know you were coming to do this.
Amanda: Oh, I just decided.
Jake: Why -- why is that?
Amanda: Jake, please, stay out of it.
Jake: Well, I, uh, can't do that because I care, you know, about you. I mean, I don't know where it's coming from all of a sudden. Just -- you're supposed to be taking it easy, and I don't know why you want to push yourself like this. I just --
Amanda: All I think about, day and night, is this baby. I worry about it. I dream about it. Except "it" isn't an "it" anymore. It's a "he" -- a boy. Great. Here come the tears again. I can't do this.
Jake: No, no, I wasn't trying -- listen, I know you've got plans to go somewhere. Can you come with me though? Can you just come with me? Come on, come on.
Tad: Zach, I know your father's a lunatic. I know that the reason he wrote this is to -- to drive the rest of us insane. The last thing I want to do is dig it up again, but I don't --
Zach: Well, then don't do it. Burn this thing. Stop the publication. End of story.
Tad: No, it's not. That's what I want is an end of the story. I thought I had one just like everybody else. I thought your father murdered Dixie, but he swears he didn't. He's very specific, and it's all right there in black and white.
Zach: He's playing with you. He's playing a game with you. Don't play and you won't lose.
Tad: I don't have a choice. If there's the slightest possibility that Dixie's murderer is still out there --
Tad: What am I --
Zach: Stop. Alexander did what he did because of me. He hated me because I wouldn't let him control me. He killed Dixie and Simone and Erin to teach me a lesson. It's awful, but it's over.
Tad: Not according to your dad.
Zach: He's not my dad. He's a twisted old man who wants attention. Don't give it to him. Let it go.
Tad: It's so easy for you to say. You never lost the love of your life.
Kendall: Ah -- oh God. Ryan, you are so sweet, you are, but I -- I can't. I'm running so late. I've got to go to work. I really do. Ok, ok.
Kendall: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What am I doing?
Ryan: Um, you're going to work.
Kendall: Why? Why would I go to work and get all stressed out at Fusion when I could stay here with the sexiest man alive?
Ryan: Apparently that title belongs to Hugh Jackman this year, but I'll take it. Thank you.
Kendall: I meant what I said. I did. I want to spend the whole day in these arms, kissing you, and touching you, and doing all sorts of things with you. Yes, I'm taking you to bed.
Ryan: I think you should get to work.
Kendall: Are you turning me down?
Ryan: No, I'm not turning you down. Believe me. I'm not. I just think Fusion needs you, and if anybody asks you there where you spent the night, you tell them you spent it here with me, and I'm going to be in there later to take you out to dinner.
Kendall: But I -- I thought --
Ryan: No, I'm tired of hiding it, Kendall. I really am. I'm tired of it. If we -- we can't be proud of what we have, if we can't walk out the door and know that it's right, then what's the point, you know? No more sneaking around, no more hiding it. Tonight is our coming out.
Kendall: You're right. We have to commit to each other and -- and to what's in our hearts and not just in this room but everywhere. I mean, if someone, you know, gives us a dirty look or makes a nasty comment, who cares? I don't care. I'm so lucky to have you in my life as my friend, the father of my child, and now so much more. You really are the most patient, understanding man I've ever known. You are.
Kendall: I'm really leaving now, ok? Ok, bye.
Taylor: Surprise. A little sunshine from the Sunshine State. Are you ok?
Randi: I've been trying to contact Frankie, and I guess he's still away on a mission.
Brot: Speaking of Frankie, how is Hubb?
Randi: He's been really quiet lately. I don't know. Something's different. Anyway, how was Florida?
Brot: Well, despite the fact that I've never given a speech before, it actually went pretty well. You know, the minute I stood up on that stage and saw all those wounded veterans in the audience, it was like this is what I should be doing with the rest of my life.
Taylor: He was great. He was great, and afterwards they did a roundtable discussion, and he answered all these questions. They didn't want him to leave, and now you have what, like, five speaking engagements lined up?
Brot: Well, we'll see where it goes. It was fun, though.
Taylor: At least one of us knows what they're doing. Me, I have absolutely no idea.
Randi: Well, there are plenty of desks here.
Taylor: Perfume and makeup? I know, it's a job. I should take it. It's money. But I don't think so. Hey, if you guys, if you work up some sort of camouflage face paint line, give me a call.
Brot: Speaking of jobs, I've actually got to get back to the hospital. If you see Hubb, tell him we miss him and to get home safe and soon, ok? Take care. See you later. Bye.
Taylor: How are you, really?
Randi: I'm fine.
Taylor: Such a liar.
Erica: Oh, Kendall, there you are. Kendall, you missed two meetings. You missed the conference calls.
Kendall: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I -- I overslept. Uh, I was -- I was with Ryan.
Kendall: He was a -- he was a complete wreck after he went to see Alex Cambias.
Erica: He did what?
Kendall: Well, Zach's psycho father decided to write a memoir. He sent it to Ryan. So, Ryan went to the institution to confront him, and when he got home he was a complete mess.
Erica: He was a mess? What about Zach? I mean, have you even given it a thought as to how this is affecting your husband?
Kendall: Ex-husband. And, yes, of course I've thought about him, but this doesn't change anything. Zach and I are history.
Tad: Ok, so you had Adam, Krystal, J.R., Babe, ZoŽ/Zarf living in the house. You've got Lucretia and Winifred working there. Stuart and Marian are living at the gatehouse. That's everybody that was on the Chandler property the day that Dixie was murdered.
Jesse: Thaddeus --
Tad: Now, the Satin Slayer is all over the media at this point, right? Everybody knows about the -- the ribbon, the V-tach, the gardenias, all of it which means that any of these people, anybody at all, could be a copycat killer, so you -- you're the chief of police. You tell me. What's my first move?
Jesse: Look, I don't think this is getting us anywhere. I think you need to stop, clean this up before your daughter gets home.
Tad: Huh. You know, I seem to remember a time not too long ago that -- that you needed a little help with the past.
Jesse: Yeah, I know.
Tad: Yeah, your life was blown apart, right? So was mine. Jesse, you wanted answers. I want answers. Somebody murdered Dixie, and if it wasn't Alex Cambias, I want to know who it was. There's no way in hell I'm going to let that go.
[Knock on door]
J.R.: Hey, where's Jake? I want to talk to him about this heart valve. I want him to do the trial surgery, but my cousin is such an idiot. I -- I thought you said everything in the Cambias book was lies, that we should forget about it. Obviously something changed.
Tad: I -- I didn't want you to get upset.
J.R.: If you have new information about my mother's murder, I damn well have a right to know.
Tad: Hey, look. Look, ok? Everybody -- everybody thinks that Alex killed Dixie, but, you know, I'm sorry. I just -- I wanted to get some hard evidence so I could put it to rest. That's all. You know me. Once a PI, always a PI. Old habits die hard.
J.R.: I'll never get over the fact my mother's gone. I'll never accept it. I have made peace with it because I knew that the son of a bitch that murdered her was locked up for the rest of his worthless life. Look, I loved her as much as you did. Stop holding out on me and tell me what you found.
Scott: Look, don't get me wrong. I want to run your company, but edging out J.R. is not my motivation. And Chandler politics? No, thank you.
Adam: No, you're not trying to hurt J.R. You're just trying to prove to him what it takes to be a winner. Cunning maneuvers, cut-throat mentality --
Scott: No, no, no, no. That -- that's not who I am at all. The pigs who did this to our economy, taking their huge bonuses while millions of people lost their life savings, they make me sick. I believe there's a better way to do business where greed is not good. What's good is playing by the rules, putting honesty and integrity before profits.
Adam: You sound just like your father.
Scott: Good. That's the idea, to make Chandler Enterprises more him and less you.
Adam: Well, there is a reason, don't forget, that I handle billion dollar deals and your father paints sunsets.
Scott: I will reinvent this company. I will do it fast and I will do it right to make my dad proud, to honor my mom, and to redefine the Chandler name. No more do we only make a profit. We change people's lives, and this huge change, it all starts with that tiny valve.
Jake: Little bit of lemon.
Amanda: Another joy of being pregnant. You have to pee every five minutes.
Jake: Well, look what I got you, huh? A luscious glass of milk.
Amanda: Nothing. The baby kicked. He does that all the time now. Even when I'm sleeping, he wakes me up out of the dream I'm having about him. I told you. I can't stop thinking about him.
Jake: Especially since you saw the sonogram.
Amanda: How -- how did you know about that?
Jake: Well, I was actually at work that day, and I walked by the exam room, saw you.
Amanda: Oh. So I guess you also saw me completely lose it. I -- I can't keep this little boy, my little boy. It's just getting so hard.
Jake: Well, it's a hard -- I mean, everything about it is hard.
Amanda: Hey? What aren't you telling me? Is it about the baby?
J.R.: You think my father did it?
Tad: Wait. Come on, don't do this to me. All I got is a crazy old man who's making a claim that's probably going to turn out to be a big, fat lie, ok? But you know me. Come on. I -- I'm a detective. I can't sleep at night unless I make sense of this stuff.
J.R.: Yeah, yeah. But Tad, my father's the only name that's on this board that makes any sense.
Tad: I'm not -- I'm not going to start jumping to conclusions, ok? Especially when it's as way out there as your father wanting to kill Babe.
J.R.: I want to help.
Tad: I know, but it's my fight. So, just do me a favor. Go home, be with your son. I -- I swear to you, I give you my word if I find anything, and I mean anything, you'd be the first to know about it.
Erica: It's not over. I've heard you say that a million times. You insist that your marriage to Zach is finished.
Kendall: What happened to you staying out of my personal life now?
Erica: Well, clearly you won't let me.
Kendall: I'm with Ryan from now on. We're building a life together.
Erica: Yeah, whatever you say.
Kendall: I know it might seem sudden, but it's not. A piece of my heart has always been with Ryan. Ok, Mom, why is it that you can be happy for your other daughter, but not me? It's ok for Bianca to take back a cheating liar, but God forbid you support my decision.
Randi: The hardest part, I mean besides worrying all the time, is just being alone. Natalia moved in and that's been great, and Angie and Jesse have us over dinner all the time. Having a family, going through it together definitely helps.
Taylor: Well, actually seeing him while you talk to him, that has to help.
Randi: It did in the beginning, but now he just keeps on getting further and further away. He doesn't say as much. He doesn't smile anymore. I don't know what's going on.
Taylor: Randi, you know, here and in country, that's like -- that's two different worlds. You can't be the same person over there that you are at home. You can't.
Randi: So what? Frankie's turning into this completely different man?
Taylor: No, he's -- he's doing what he has to do to survive. He loves you so much. But, honestly -- honestly every time he sees your face and hears your voice, it is just a reminder of what he's left behind, and he can't think about that right now. No, he has to keep up a wall, and he's got to just stay clear and -- and just get through the tour so that he can get back to you.
Randi: Right. Well, at least we have a date tonight.
Taylor: A webcam date.
Randi: Ugh, I cannot wait for him to come home and for us to have a real dinner, just the two of us.
Jake: Drink the milk. We'll talk about it later, ok? Cheers.
Amanda: No. We are saying here until you spill everything.
J.R.: Hey, Jake. We need to talk.
Amanda: Well, get in line.
J.R.: No, this can't wait. It's about the heart valve. Scott wants you to start looking for a test patient, you know, somebody to try it out on.
Jake: Mm-hmm. Ok.
J.R.: Well, tell him you can't do it. Tell him that you don't feel comfortable doing the surgery.
Jake: Why would I -- why would I do that? The last I heard, the lab said the thing was fine, and it's ready to go. What is this? What's going -- what's going on?
Scott: That's an excellent question.
Kendall: Ok, talk to the web designers. Tell them this part needs to be animated. I want to see a mock-up first thing Monday morning. Ok, great. Randi, I know you have much more important things on your mind. You're doing a great job.
Randi: [In whisper] Thanks.
Woman: The CEO from Stauckas left a message.
Kendall: Oh, ok. Tell him that we are on for the conference call tomorrow at 10. And have a nice bottle of champagne sent to his office in Philly with "Happy birthday wishes from all of us at Fusion." Great, thank you.
Woman: Um, would you have a second to look at these proofs?
Kendall: Yes, of course. Um, ok. No, no -- oh, definitely no. Yes, yes, that's the one. You know what? It needs retouching. Can you have the photographer come by early next week?
Kendall: Great, thanks.
Man: Sign, please.
Kendall: There you go.
Erica: Ryan. I thought you resigned from Fusion.
Ryan: I did. You and Kendall can handle this place on your own. Hey.
Ryan: You ready to go?
Kendall: Yes, I am. I am, indeed. Let's go.
Ryan: Let's do it. Got everything?
Kendall: I do.
Ryan: All right. Come on.
Scott: You would really stoop this low. You would derail the entire project just to stick it to me?
J.R.: What do you call holding a press conference behind my back?
Jake: Press conference?
J.R.: What are you going to do? Are you going to take your little invention, press my father, he shoves me out the way, puts a -- a little crown on top of your head and anoints you King Chandler?
Scott: I just got done telling your dad that this isn't about winning. It is about changing lives for the better. It's about giving people hope.
J.R.: Oh, hope, hope -- bull.
Jake: All right, listen, you know, he's trying to do some good in the world. That's the way I see it. Why can't you get on board with that?
Amanda: Sounds positive to me.
J.R.: No, no, Scott's entire career is burning through my father's cash.
Scott: The prototype is ready. It is safe. As soon as a deserving candidate comes along, we need to help them. And Jake's going to help us, right?
Jake: That's the idea.
Scott: Well, we need to step up the search.
Jake: I'm ready to get stepping.
J.R.: You better not screw this up.
Scott: Well, that was pleasant. You know -- Amanda Dillon. I have not seen you in forever. You -- you look great.
Amanda: Hey, thanks.
Scott: Hey, how's Timmy? Amanda's brother and I were really tight back in the day.
Jake: You know what you should do? Sit down, we'll have a little chat, a little bit to eat together -- yeah, and you know, go over old times.
Scott: I would love to, but I've got to get back to work. So we'll talk later?
Jake: Oh, yeah, sure.
Amanda: Bye. Nice try. This is the last time I'm going to ask you. What are you keeping from me?
Jake: Inside here, I have the details on the time that you're going to give birth to the child. It's all spelled out -- the transfer, your request to be put under, which means you'll have to have a C-section. Also, your request never to see the child. It's all in there. And, of course, you know, when you wake, it will be gone.
Amanda: Not it. He will be gone. My son.
Alexander: You stole Kendall from Ryan. He's the one she belongs with. You made the wrong choice, Kendall. You should have had Ryan instead of this embarrassment.
Kendall: What are you thinking?
Zach: The warehouse in Vegas when my dad left that note there.
Zach: It said, "Kendall chose to save your life instead of hers." No one's ever loved me that much.
Kendall: I didn't choose your life. I chose our life -- this life. You and me and Spike and the little munchkin on the way, our family. It's only going to get better, Zach. We are only going to get better.
[Doorbell rings and Erica stands there]
Tad: Come on in. Thanks for getting here so fast.
Stuart: Yeah -- oh, well, you said it was important.
Jesse: Yeah, hey, Stuart. Just want to ask you a few questions.
Stuart: Yeah, I've -- I'm -- oh, boy. I'm so glad that Scott's back in town. Now -- even though he's working with Adam and -- and J.R. He wouldn't be in -- he wouldn't be in trouble with the law, would he?
Tad and Jesse: No.
Tad: Stuart, this isn't about your son. No, come on in.
Stuart: Oh, oh. What is it you wanted to ask me about?
Stuart: Huh? Oh.
Jesse: What do you remember about her death?
Stuart: Oh, the Satin Slayer, that was really a terrible time. I was so sad. Every -- everybody was sad.
Tad: But on the day -- the day that Dixie died at your brother's house, does anything spring to mind, anything specific that you heard or you saw?
Stuart: Oh, yeah, lots. Most of all, I remember the ribbon.
Zach: Alexander Cambias wants to share his story with the world.
Erica: Kendall told me about this. Your father sent this to Ryan. Why would he do that? And why now?
Zach: That's the old man for you. Always keep them guessing.
Erica: Well, this must be devastating for you, all those horrible memories.
Zach: They weren't all bad.
Zach: I'm sitting here, and I'm flipping through these pages, mostly delusions of a madman. But in a way, it brings me back to a time when -- when Kendall was Kendall. And we were everything to each other, you know. We would have died for each other. It's ironic, in a way, you know. You -- the man who hates me most makes me remember how much I was loved once. I'm not -- I'm not being fair, you know, when I said to Kendall that she's always loved Ryan. That's not true. During this time, she loved me and only me. And I loved her.
Erica: I think you still do.
[Guitar intro playing]
Ryan: You're expecting someone?
Kendall: I don't know. My mom? The paparazzi?
Kendall: Maybe a bunch of people throwing stones at me?
Ryan: Oh, yeah? Well, what would you do if they showed up?
Male singer: When it comes to choosing that I know where I stand
Kendall: And this.
Male singer: This is who I am eyes wide awake while I'm dreaming --
Kendall: And this.
Male singer: And I'm running low on patience no faith but disbelief this is who I am this is who I'll always be this is me, yeah
Amanda: I can't. I cannot give away my baby.
Jake: I know it's overwhelming. You know, it's actually a good plan. I mean, it's the best way to keep the baby away and safe from Hayward, so I... Why -- why change it now, you know?
Amanda: I've fallen in love with him.
Randi: Are the phones working? Are the computers working? I mean, did the storm take something out?
Waiter: No, everything's fine.
[Cell phone rings]
Randi: Frankie? Yes, this is Mrs. Hubbard. Did something happen to my husband?
Tad: Oh, go ahead. Why don't you tell us a little bit more about the ribbon?
Stuart: Oh, ok, the Satin Slayer, he always left one behind.
Tad: That's right.
Stuart: Yeah -- uh, what did they call that?
Jesse: A signature.
Tad: But the ribbon was found on the gate outside the Chandler mansion. Jamie found it.
Stuart: No, before that. I saw Adam at the gate touching the ribbon.
Tad: I need you to think very carefully. Is there any way that Adam could have put the ribbon on the gate?
Adam: How long have you been standing there?
J.R.: It's this, uh -- Cambias book. I just keep thinking that maybe there's some truth to it.
Adam: Oh, it's utter nonsense. He's a drooling, muttering waste.
J.R.: You see, my mother was the one who died. But Babe was the real target.
Adam: Please don't -- don't dredge that up again.
J.R.: Babe was the one that was supposed to die that day. You see, she's the one who had the food that was poisoned.
Adam: Because she -- she was working at Fusion. All of the victims were.
J.R.: Did you kill my mother?
[Music plays as Kendall and Ryan dance at the Yacht Club]
Singer: Tonight I'll just hold you and don't think that I told you you make everything all right sometimes I just need you and I swear I don't mean to but you've opened up my eyes and I see your hair run through the darkened skies don't want to be lonely lonely, lonely till I see your hair
Zach: Hey, I don't want to be rude, but I don't -- I don't want to discuss Kendall anymore.
Erica: All right, I won't. Zach, I really came here out of concern for you.
Zach: You did?
Zach: That's nice. I just -- I don't...
Erica: All right, ok. I won't say another word.
[After Erica walks out, Liza walks in and kisses Zach]
Liza: I heard you were looking for me.
