Taylor: Wow -- champagne, dinner. Let me guess -- promotion? Raise? You won the lottery?

Brot: Nope. Just finally found out what I am going to do for the rest of my life.

Aidan: The doll is a clue. It means something. I mean, not what you thought, but something else.

Annie: It was beautiful -- my best present. And Tori was my very best friend. I loved Tori, and I loved the doll.

Tori: Annie, look out!

Aidan: What happened, Annie? What did you see?

Annie: Somebody else was there. Tori and I -- we weren't alone.

Aidan: Who else is there, Annie?

Annie: Richie?

Jake: I want to raise this baby. I think that I would be the luckiest guy in the world if this baby, your baby, called me Daddy.

Amanda: Everyone knows that David's the father.

Jake: Well, not in Vancouver or Istanbul.

Amanda: Hold on. You can't be serious.

Jake: I am serious. I say, let's pack our bags, grab our passports, and get out of Pine Valley as soon as possible.

Amanda: Your family lives here. Your job --

Jake: My family will survive just fine. I've worked all over the world. They're used to it.

Amanda: You would be uprooting your entire life --

Jake: Roots? Roots -- roots are overrated.

Amanda: Always looking over your shoulder, expecting David every time there's a knock on the door.

Jake: Well, that's exactly why I think this is really the only option.

Krystal: You're saying all the right things, but I know I've let you down.

David: You haven't let me down. Are you kidding? I love you even more. We're going to have another baby, Krystal. Just as beautiful as the one we created before, all right?

Angie: I'm glad you're both here.

Krystal: What is it?

Angie: During the surgery, Dr. Roth discovered extensive damage to the remaining ovary and fallopian tube. You won't be able to have more children, Krystal.

Brot: You know how I've been lately -- just trying to get from one day to the next, you know? And knowing there has to be something more, but not knowing exactly what that is.

Taylor: And you found the "what"?

Brot: Yes. Out of nowhere, my question was answered.

Taylor: Are you going to tell me what the answer is?

Brot: Yes, yes, yes. Hold on. It's wounded soldiers. It's a group of veterans who go around giving motivational speeches to other veterans. They've been though stuff, just like I have. And they think I'd be a perfect fit for it.

Taylor: You would be perfect.

Brot: Yeah, maybe. But there's just one problem. You put me in front of a crowd of eyes, and I don't know what to say. I don't even know if anything will come out. And if it does, will it come out wrong?

Taylor: You know what I say? Celebrate now, panic later.

Brot: I like that.

Taylor: Congratulations.

Annie: I don't want to know.

Aidan: Annie, we have to do this, and you have to remember.

Annie: I can't, I can't. I killed Tori, and I killed my brother.

Aidan: Listen, whatever happened in that basement might explain a lot of things. That's why you have to remember. Look at me. I'm right here. No one can hurt you now. Please, tell me what you remember.

Annie: Richie's in the shadows.

Aidan: Where was Tori?

Annie: She's not there. It's just me and Richie, and he's so angry. No, Richie, stop. Stop, Richie. I'm sorry. Stop it! Richie, stop it!

Krystal: No. No, that can't be right. There -- there has got to be a mistake.

Angie: We're so sorry, Krystal. There is no mistake.

Krystal: But David and I want to have a baby. We have to have a baby.

Angie: If it was in my power to change this for you, I would. Why are you still here?

Tad: I just wanted to see how Krystal's doing.

Angie: She's devastated. She wanted another child, and now that's impossible.

Tad: You want to know something crazy? She's not my wife, she's his. That wouldn't have been my child -- that would have been his. Yet, here I am -- walking the floor with a knot in my stomach like --

Angie: Like it was yours. You know, it's not crazy at all. Because despite everything that happened, you still care about Krystal.

Krystal: No. This -- this can't be. This cannot be.

David: It's all right. It's all going to be all right.

Krystal: How? How is it going to be all right? Before Angie walked in here -- we lost baby, but we still had hope. We could still plan and dream for another child. And now I have taken that from you.

David: Taken it from me? You gave me our beautiful Babe, our grandson, your love --

Krystal: I know how much you want another child.

David: I want you, Krystal. As long as I have you, that's all I need.

Krystal: Well, then why do I feel like I failed you?

David: What are you talking about? You haven't failed me. You gave up everything to be with me. Your family, your friends. I've hurt you. You still love me. I've done things that you don't even approve of, and you still stand by me. Come on. We both know I'll never be a really good man, but with your love, Krystal, you give me the thought -- the feeling that anything is possible.

Aidan: Annie -- Annie, why is Richie hitting you? What did he say? What are you doing?

Annie: The party. It's about my party.

Richie: It's all your fault. I had a game today, and I struck out because of you.

Tori: Annie, are you down here? Annie?

Annie: She started coming down the stairs. And I tried to warn her. I said, don't come down here. Tori, stop. And she stopped, but I was still afraid. Afraid and ashamed.

Krystal: I can't have children. I understand if that's not enough for you.

David: I love that you want to give me the gift of a child, but you are all I need, Krystal. Your heart, your courage, your love. You think I want to run? I've never felt closer to you than I do right now. It's ok, come here. Why don't you sleep, ok? Go ahead, sleep. And just know that I love you more than you could ever, ever imagine. Do you understand that?

Tad: I shouldn't be here.

Angie: Here, at home, wherever. You'll be thinking about Krystal and what she lost today, because you share a child. And divorce, separate lives, new loves -- nothing changes that bond. It's part of the reason Krystal and David are together -- their grief over Babe.

Tad: Well, let's not forget a healthy dose of manipulation and medication.

Angie: No. But Babe -- their love for her, Tad -- their grief is the heartbeat of that relationship. And another child would have just strengthened that bond even more. But now there is no child, and Krystal has lost so much already. Babe, custody of --

Tad: Jenny.

Angie: Listen, I need to go check on her.

Tad: Ok.

David: Here to gloat?

Tad: You know why she was so desperate to have this baby? Because she was afraid that if she didn't, someday you would leave her. And now she'll never have another child.

David: You mean with a better man, right? A more deserving man? Perhaps someone like you. Well, sorry, Tad, we were pregnant because we're in love.

Tad: Do you know what I really hate about the way you use that word, we, is the way you use it against her to control her -- to get her to do what you want her to do. And all I can see from outside is everything she's lost, like her friends and her family. And if I know you, someday you'll find a way to use this against her, too.

David: Why are you still here? What, you want to see Krystal? Hold her hand? Tell her how much you still love her? Tell her you can love her even more now that she's infertile than I ever could? Well, go ahead, Tad. Be my guest. Give it a try.

[Tad leaves]

Angie: Hey. I'm sorry to wake you.

Krystal: Where's David?

Angie: He slipped out for a minute. Your vitals are right where they should be. How do you feel?

Krystal: I need to see my baby. I need to see Jenny.

Angie: You will.

Krystal: I need to see her now, Angie. I just need to hold her. You know, all these months she has been growing so fast, and where have I been? With David, focusing on him, everything with my husband --

Angie: Krystal, you've spent lots of time with Jenny, and she knows -- believe me, she knows how much you love her.

Krystal: You know it's going to happen someday -- no more babies. I mean, that's just -- that's just part of nature. When that chance is just ripped from you -- I have to see the child I have left. I've got to go home. Please tell me I can go home.

Jake: We would settle someplace nice, you know? We would change our names, and we would change our jobs. And look, if you really like some place steamy, fine. I'll find you an island. And if you want some place cold, we'll live at the top of a mountain. I'll just have to teach the little one how to hunt and track their own game.

Amanda: You make it sound so easy.

Jake: Well, no, nothing's easy. But I just -- you know, I figure if we do it together, we can give this child a great life. The best life possible. Silence. Maybe silence is a screaming yes in some other language, I don't know.

Amanda: Why are you doing this? Why would you give up everything for a child that's not even yours? Ok, we're not doing this. I can't --

Jake: Wait, wait, wait. I just want to give you the answer from my heart, you know? I just didn't want to say something stupid, like I always -- like I always do. I want to do it because it feels right. I really just want more out of life than doctoring, or picking up tabs at bars. You need somebody, and that baby is going to need somebody. And, quite frankly, I could use a couple of somebodies in my life.

Amanda: Ok. So you and me -- how does that work?

Jake: Right. Uh, well, we would raise the little squirt. You know, create a nice little family unit. A warm, safe, happy place.

Amanda: What if you meet someone? Or I meet someone?

Jake: I guess we'd cross that bridge when we got to it.

Amanda: David would never stop looking for us. We'd have to be on the move.

Jake: I'll take care of David. Look, he fought me on my job, right, and I got that back. Listen, imagine if he was fighting me while I was fighting for you and trying to protect you and the baby. He'd never stand a chance. I'm just saying, if you believe with me, we'll never look back on this day with fear or regret, because I will protect you and the baby with my life.

[Door shuts]

Tad: Well, I dropped Mama off at tai chi. What did I interrupt?

Jake: I'm here to tell Amanda that if she really wants to keep her baby safe and away from David Hayward, she should leave town with me, right now, and never look back.

Amanda: Tell Jake that he's completely whacked out of his mind.

Jake: Tell Amanda that we'll find a little corner of this world, and we will live happily ever after.

Amanda: Tell Jake that it's impossible. There's another way.

Tad: I can't. Because he's right.

Aidan: So Tori didn't come down the stairs. Then what?

Tori: Are you ok, Annie?

Annie: I'll be up soon.

Tori: Hurry. Your mom wants to light the candles.

Tori: Annie, look out!

Annie: Tori, don't! Here's the doll. Go back upstairs.

Tori: Did you hurt Annie?

Richie: Now everyone's in trouble.

Tori: I'm getting your daddy.

[Richie strikes Tori with his baseball bat]

Annie: No!

Tad: I'm afraid that now that Krystal can't have any more children, that baby is going to move front and center on David's radar.

Jake: Then we really should leave as soon as possible, before he even knows that we're gone. We would need fake id's and passports and everything. And tickets. You still have people?

Tad: Yeah. I know a guy that knows a guy. I guess I could set up a meeting.

Jake: That works for me.

Amanda: I'm ready.

Tad: I guess I'd better make a phone call.

[Amanda sighs]

Jake: Hey. Everything is going to be all right. Just trust me.

David: Where's Krystal?

Angie: I discharged her.

David: What are you talking about? You discharged her? I have to take her home. She needs me.

Angie: She needed someone else more.

Amanda: Are you sure that it's ok for you to be here? I mean, out of the hospital? Tad told us.

Krystal: I had to see my Jenny. Get some sugar.

Amanda: Shouldn't you be in bed?

Krystal: This is what I need. This is all I need.

Jake: I thought we would be just like any other young family, blending into the fabric of America. What?

Tad: You love this. This is so your thing. You eat this up with a spoon.

Jake: Listen, I'm saving two lives from the jackass that ruined your life. What's the problem?

Tad: I don't know. I can't decide whether you're doing it because you're determined to help Amanda, or because there's some weird shelf life on how little you're willing to spend at home.

Jake: Shelf life -- what? What are you saying?

Tad: What do you -- who do you think you're talking to? Let's do the math, ok? Way back when, when things didn't work out with Emily Ann, what did you do? Poof, gone. Over the horizon. Puff of smoke. Mia, same thing -- things didn't work out, you took off. When you were upset because you didn't know whether or not Colby was your daughter, you did the same thing. You left town. Hell, you were going to split a couple months ago until you started felling sorry for Dad. Now, all of a sudden, that little clockwork ticker goes off in your head -- time to leave. And what do you know? You've got the perfect excuse.

Jake: Can I just make this a lot easier than whatever you're saying? She needs help. I'm helping her. It's that simple.

[Tad laughs]

Tad: Help? Help? That's what you call it? Help? This isn't help. This goes way beyond help. You're not taking her off on some camping trip, dropping her off in the woods and saying, "Hey, you know, go with God." From now on, you two are bonded. You've both given up your lives as you know it. And we're talking for years. You know that, right? It keeps tickling the back of my mind -- why you're so fired up to do it. And the only answer I could come up with is that you're in love with Amanda.

Taylor: That room will be filled with people like me when I couldn't walk, and little Emma Lavery when she burned her hands, and Reese Williams when she couldn't see. You found the words to make us feel better -- better able to cope. Because of your pain, you're able to find answers that would help others.

Brot: Wow. That sounds familiar. It sounds just like the pitch the guy from the wounded soldiers gave me.

Taylor: All right, so I talked to him. But before you yell and scream, and you storm out of here, this time, it was different, ok? I was down there for a reason. I was filling out my discharge papers, and I saw the flyer and all the requirements. They sounded exactly like you. So go ahead, storm out. I don't care.

Brot: Taylor --

Taylor: But do not use this --

Brot: Taylor--

Taylor: As some sort of opportunity --

Brot: Taylor, Taylor --

Taylor: This could be a really big career path for you.

Brot: Taylor -- Taylor, I'm not mad. It's the opposite. I'm actually happy. This is exactly what I've been looking for. And the fact that you sent it my way just makes it that much more special.

Taylor: Thank goodness.

Jake: I don't not love Amanda. I just -- it's just not about love, at the moment.

Tad: That was brilliant. That's terrific. That's your final answer -- what you're going to stay with? Because, you know, from the outside looking in, you guys were a couple. You moved into the house. You've been spending a whole lot of time together.

Jake: She needs to move out of town. I'm just the best person to help her do that.

Tad: Let's make sure you got one thing. This isn't a game, ok? Just remember what you're leaving me with. From now on, this family's going to be dealing with Dr. David Hayward on an entirely different level, ok? You know that, right? He's a lot of things. He's not stupid. He's lost Babe, he's lost any chance he's ever going to have of having a baby with Krystal, and there is no way in hell he's getting his hands on Little Adam. So he's going to be really hungry for what's his. You understand? I'm talking about no boundaries, whatever-it-takes desperate.

Jake: What's he going do, murder somebody? Come on.

Tad: Jake, it wouldn't be the first time a body showed up when he was involved. Anthony. Anthony?

Anthony: Yeah.

Tad: Hey. Listen, man. I'm really sorry for calling. I wouldn't do it unless it was important. This is the brother I told you about, Jake.

Jake: Hey, how are you doing?

Anthony: How are you doing?

Jake: So, tell me what I need.

Anthony: A new name for starters, because Jake Martin is about to disappear from the face of the earth.

Amanda: My baby kicked today. It was the first big kick. It was pretty wild. I don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but I think we like the same things, and neither of us are crazy about garlic, so... I'm sorry. I shouldn't be yakking about being pregnant when you'll never be able to -- I'm sorry.

Krystal: No, I -- I won't be able to.

Amanda: David's going to come after my baby now, isn't he?

Krystal: He promised me he wasn't going to make any claims on your baby.

Amanda: Yeah. Like he promised me that he wouldn't tell J.R. he was the father if I cooperated with him. Yeah. Well, excuse me if I don't trust his promises. That's one of the reasons you wanted to get pregnant, isn't it? To keep David and keep him away from my baby.

Krystal: That was part of it. Children -- children bring a different kind of love. Bright, hopeful. You look at them, and you see yourself, and you see the future -- a future that goes on long after you're gone.

Amanda: Of course. A genius surgeon with a God complex would want immortality.

[Door shuts]

David: There you are.

Aidan: Annie, Annie, you are all right. Annie, you're all right. Listen to me. Calm down. Calm down, I'm right here. You're ok. I need you to think back. What happened next? Can you do that for me?

Richie: You've killed Tori. You've killed your best friend. You're a bad girl. You're going to hell.

Man's voice: Annie, you there?

Aidan: Ok, listen to me. You didn't do it, Annie. You didn't kill Tori. Richie did. Not you.

David: Hey, you beautiful girl. She's looking more like you every single day.

Krystal: I think she needs a diaper change. Be right back.

David: Ok. I take it Tad's not home.

Amanda: He went out with Jake. And you should go, like now, before someone gets here, because no one wants you here.

David: It's all right, Amanda. I'm not staying long. But I would like to take Jenny with us for the night.

Amanda: You can't.

David: You see how torn up Krystal is over this. How much she needs her daughter. Are you really that cold that you would deny her one night with her child?

Amanda: I can't make that decision.

David: Children belong with their mothers. Isn't that what you believe? Well, here's your chance to stand by those words.

Tad: New names, new lives, new everything. Hell of a lot of paperwork to make that happen. And then the hard part starts.

Jake: Right now, the priority is just to get the girl away from Hayward. I volunteered for the job, ok? So don't worry yourself. It's all going to work itself out.

Tad: I got a better idea. Don't run. Please, stay. You've finally got something to fight for. Do it. Stay and fight.

Jake: Tad, I am fighting, but I'm doing it my way. I don't have any money, so --

Tad: You're not, Jake. You're just doing the same thing you always do.

Jake: What if I pick Doogie as my new name? Would you still love me?

Taylor: Just forget that all eyes are on you and talk to them the way that you talk to me.

Brot: You know, watching you sip champagne got me thinking about the pink lace.

Taylor: Stop it. Don't do it like it's a speech. You have to talk to them -- really talk to them. From your heart. You know, tell them what it was like when you were wounded and how lost you felt and how hard you fought your way back.

Brot: Yeah, but you did a lot of that fighting, too. And I'm glad you did. Now -- now that that's out of the way, can we get back to the pink lace?

Taylor: If I can have my way with you when we get back home.

Brot: As tempting as that is, unfortunately, I still have a day job and a night shift.

Taylor: I knew it.

Brot: And I'm almost late, so how about I'll see you later, ok?

Taylor: Hey, I'm very proud of you.

Brot: Thank you. I got to go.

Taylor: And I love you.

[Tad stares at Taylor]

David: You're the big champion of mother's rights, aren't you? Well, I'll take that to mean that we have your blessing.

Amanda: You can't take Jenny.

Krystal: Is everything ok?

David: Yeah. Yeah, everything's fine. I was just talking to Amanda about how important Jenny is to you right now and letting her know that we'll be taking her for the night.

Krystal: No. No, we're not going to do that. She can barely keep her eyes open. I mean, why cart her off when all she wants is her own bed?

David: Are you sure this is what you want?

Krystal: Yeah.

Amanda: I'm sorry about the baby.

David: All's not lost, right? I do have another baby on the way, don't I?

Aidan: You were traumatized, Annie. Vulnerable. And Richie used that to convince you that you killed Tori. And then he used it to control you.

Annie: So I didn't kill her? But I'm still a killer. I murdered Richie.

Aidan: Because of what happened in the cellar, all right? Your subconscious knew that he killed your best friend. That's why you struck out, to right the wrong, to defend that little girl.

Annie: So I didn't kill Tori? I didn't hurt her?

Aidan: No.

Annie: I'm not bad. I'm not evil.

Aidan: No. No, you're not.

Tad: You know, I don't want to brag, but I do have that effect on women.

Taylor: Actually, I was talking to Brot. He was --

Tad: I got that part of it, yeah. He's a really lucky guy.

Taylor: I'm a really lucky woman. Not that you aren't lovable, Tad.

Tad: Oh, God. Perish the thought. I'm a sucker.

Taylor: No.

Tad: No, I'm a sucker.

Taylor: No. You're sweet. You're sweet, and you're kind, and you're very loyal to your brother.

Tad: I sound like the family dog. Just call me "Buttons" or "Boo Boo."

Taylor: I like dogs.

Tad: Really? Nice to know. Normally, a classy woman like you looks at a dog like me and goes -- whew!

David: We need to get you to bed, ok?

Krystal: This place is so drafty. Extra tonight. I just -- I feel so empty.

David: I'm going to fill that space, Krystal. I'm going to devote my life to making you feel warm and full and loved, ok?

Amanda's voice: I'm pregnant, you moron.

Jake's voice: Oh, pregnant, pregnant. Pregnant's just an excuse for being fat. Well, it is.

Jake: You should send that in to that Funniest Videos show. We might win 10 grand. You never know. So I talked to that guy, and we're good. We're all set for 5 a.m.

Jake: Does that upset you? Is that too early? We could make it 6.

Amanda: I don't want to go, Jake. I can't do it.

Aidan: What happened in that cellar explains everything that you've done. Why you killed Richie, why you lashed out at Ryan and Greenlee, and why you have problems trusting. But now you're free.

Annie: How can I be free?

Aidan: Because now we know the "whys." You understand. Now you can heal.

Annie: I'm free.

Brot: Hi. Whatever it is, it's going to be all right. If it would help to share your pain, I'm here. But if you feel more comfortable speaking to a loved one, I completely understand. But the most important thing for you to realize is you're not alone and people care.

Woman: It's just allergies. I'm here for a shot.

[Brot laughs]

Taylor: You know, Tad, I used to wonder why I was alone -- and I finally figured out it was me. Yeah, see, I thought that -- I thought it was just easier to be alone. No complications. No conversations about my feelings. No drama.

Tad: Did something change?

Taylor: Yeah. Brot and Jake. I was talking to them, and they made me realize it's not easier to be alone, it's just boring. You just become a boring person. And I'm not cut out to fly solo anyway, and I don't think you are, either.

Tad: Are you kidding? Lately, I'm cut out to, you know, deal with kids and be the family dog.

Taylor: And excuses.

Tad: How would you --

Taylor: You know, Tad --

Tad: What? What?

Taylor: If you could take off those blinders, the love of your life -- she could be sitting right in front of you. I got to go.

Tad: No, no, no, no. Don't you dare. This is definitely on me.

Taylor: Sweet and kind.

Tad: No. Hot chick. Sucker.

Taylor: [Laughs] thank you.

Tad: Woof.

Jake: I know you're nervous. This is weird. We're going to leave everybody and everything that we know behind, and you're pregnant. And this is scary. It's very --

Amanda: I can't do it to you. It's not fair. You leave your entire life for a baby that not yours, a woman who is just a friend. I won't let you do it.

David: I've never seen that picture of Babe before. That should be in a frame, not all folded up.

Krystal: I -- I just like to keep this one close to me.

David: Well, I'm just glad you're home. Close to me.
