Annie: I'm so glad you're here. I've been remembering more things. Aidan, Tori's been helping me to remember.
Aidan: Where did Tori go?
Annie: She's right here. Now you finally get to meet each other. I'm so glad. Tori's been helping me. I really don't know how I'm going to thank her.
Aidan: Annie, there's no one here.
Annie: Don't do that. Don't do that. She's right over -- she was just right --
Annie: That's so strange. I swear, she was just here. I --
Aidan: Annie, Tori wasn't here, because Tori doesn't exist.
Erica: My God. Adam. You're supposed to be in the hospital. What are you doing here?
[Adam kisses Erica]
Erica: Adam. Ok, well, you mean it. What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in the hospital. Why aren't you in the hospital?
Adam: I missed you, too.
Erica: Look, it's not safe for you to be here.
Adam: Why? Who would know?
Erica: The police are looking for you. You have to go back.
Adam: The police. What have you told them?
Erica: I haven't told them anything.
Adam: What about my family?
Officer: The car was wrapped around a tree.
Colby: Oh, oh, my God.
J.R.: Was my father inside?
Officer: No, sir, it was abandoned.
Colby: He must have crashed the car. He has to be out there somewhere. We have to go look for him.
Tad: No, no, take it easy. We don't know who was driving the car.
J.R.: Yeah, it could be a bunch of kids just joyriding, for all we know.
Tad: Where exactly was the car found?
Officer: Uh, Park Road, near Rivermont.
J.R.: Dad? Oh, thank God.
Zach: We made the right decision.
Kendall: He'll come home. I'll be right back.
Ryan: Any word on Ian?
Kendall: Um, he just went in a minute ago.
Kendall: I'm glad you came.
Ryan: Um, Spike made this for Ian, and he and Emma said I had to get it here right away.
[Reese walks in]
Kendall: What the hell are you doing here?
Zach: Oh, Myrtle. Where the hell are you? You see what's going on down here, right? Ian's having a rough time, and he's, um -- well, you know what that boy means to me, and if anything happens to him, if -- so I got a favor to ask you. If you are up there, and you're sitting next to the man in charge, just talk some sense into him. Would you please? The way you used to do with me. Because this isn't fair. This boy has fought so hard just to see his first birthday. He keeps fighting, and, you know, after a while he just -- he's earned a longer life than this, you know? He just deserves a longer life, more than most people I know, more than -- more than me, for sure, so -- if you just have one more carny trick to pull out of your sleeve, this would be the time to do it. All right?
Reese: I was here for an eye exam, and I heard about Ian, and I wanted to see how he was doing.
Kendall: Who, Ian or Zach?
Reese: I wanted to see how Ian was.
Kendall: He's in surgery. Ryan, maybe you should go home, and I can call you later.
Reese: Look, Kendall, if there's anything I can do, I just --
Kendall: Would you stop -- stop it, stop, ok? Please stop. I know what you're doing. You're trying to score points with Bianca, acting all concerned about her nephew. Well, you know what? I already talked to her, and she doesn't give a damn about what you do anymore.
Kendall: What? What? Are you buying her act?
Ryan: No, I just don't know if this is the time --
Reese: It's not an act, ok? I grew very fond and very close to Ian while I was taking care of him for all those months.
Kendall: The only person you ever cared for is yourself, and the only reason why you ever looked after Ian in the first place was because you were trying to get into Zach's pants. That's why.
Zach: Hey, that's enough.
Krystal: Shouldn't you be scrubbing up for surgery?
Krystal: Don't be down on yourself. We both know you can do this.
David: I was fine until I saw the surgical instruments. They make special ones to operate on children this age, much smaller than the ones I usually use. Those little retractors, they just brought me right back to Leora.
Krystal: This is a different day. Today a child is going to live because you have a gift, and you're the strongest man I know.
David: Huh, strong. I don't think that's a word most of the people in this town would use to describe me.
Krystal: Well, you know what? Then they're idiots. And they don't know you like I do.
David: There's this little ritual I do before I operate. I've never told anyone this. I take two fingers, put them on my wrist, and I feel my pulse for at least a minute. It helps me to remember just the power that I'm about to go face-to-face with in there.
Krystal: I'll do it with you.
J.R.: Dad, are you ok? Were you driving in your -- listen, Dad, you have to tell us where you are. Dad? Dad. He must have hung up.
Officer: Did he tell you where he was?
Officer: Well, let me see your phone. Maybe he left a number.
J.R.: Excuse me, do you have a warrant?
Officer: Hey, is that the way you want to play it?
J.R.: I want my father to turn himself in. I don't need a bunch of armed men with itchy trigger fingers coming after him.
Officer: Yeah, yeah, then I suggest you talk some sense into him. Come on, let's go.
Colby: How is he? How did he sound?
Tad: There was no phone call, was there?
J.R.: I just wanted to throw them off the scent.
Colby: So we don't know where he is or if he's ok?
Tad: Actually, we have a pretty good idea where he is.
J.R.: What do you mean?
Tad: Well, the car was found at the corner of Park and Rivermont. That's only a couple of blocks away from the casino. And who do we know that lives there?
Erica: I told J.R. exactly what we agreed I should tell him, the truth. That you were admitted to a hospital under Stuart's name after some unexplained collapse.
Adam: And that's all you told him?
Erica: Yes, because that's all I know. Why? Is there something else, Adam? Is there something wrong? I mean, did the doctors find something?
Adam: How is Little Adam?
Erica: Little Adam is in foster care. I have been assured that he's in really good hands, and, um -- awaiting what the courts say to do next.
Adam: Oh, my God. How could I have let this happen?
Erica: Well, look, at the moment I'm much more concerned with his grandfather, ok? Are you still taking your medication?
Adam: Oh, yes, of course.
Erica: Adam, there are things you're not telling me, and I wish you would. Please, please. You can trust me.
Adam: After all the battles we've fought, who would've thought that you'd end up being the only one I could turn to?
Erica: Maybe because of all the battles we've fought. So tell me. What's going on with you? What -- what did the doctors find?
Adam: Nothing. Nothing. That's why I had to leave. I got tired of being stuck with all those needles.
Erica: They didn't find anything at all, Adam?
Adam: No, nothing.
Erica: Well, then, you're fine.
Adam: Well, not exactly. There is something going on with me, something -- it's not right at all.
Annie: Of course, Tori exists.
Aidan: Except no one apart from you has ever seen her.
Annie: I've spoken to her, for hours and hours.
Aidan: Yeah, exactly, because you were lonely, and you needed a friend, so you created her.
Aidan: Right? She was someone you could speak to, right? Someone that would help you remember.
Annie: I didn't just imagine her, Aidan.
Aidan: Annie, it's ok, all right? And I understand. Tori was a way for you to unlock whatever it is your mind is hiding.
Annie: No, this is ridiculous. Tori's real, ok? She's real, and Tori's my friend!
Aidan: Annie, Annie, calm down.
Annie: I'm not going to calm down! Tori's a real person! You think, what, I made her up in my head, and she's a fiction of my imagination?
Aidan: Annie, just calm down. You got to --
Annie: Just go away! Get out of my room! This is none of your business! Get out of my room! Get out of my room! Tori? Tori! Tori, show them you're real! Tori! Get out!
Aidan: Where is she? Is she all right?
Dr. Burke: She's been mildly sedated. My staff is keeping her under observation. Want to tell me what happened?
Aidan: I'm not sure.
Dr. Burke: Mr. Devane, you've been given extraordinary leeway in visiting with Annie, and I was against it at first, but there's been remarkable progress made with your presence and support, but I need to know everything that she said to you, and everything that you've said to her that might have sparked this reaction.
Aidan: Because you need to report everything to the D.A., right?
Dr. Burke: Yes.
Aidan: I wish I could help you. I really do. We were just talking about how Annie was feeling today, and then, suddenly, she just got upset.
Dr. Burke: Who's Tori?
Aidan: Excuse me?
Dr. Burke: You must have heard Annie screaming that name. So who is this Tori, and why does she have Annie so upset?
[Knock on door]
Colby: What do you want?
Krystal: I came by to see J.R. Are you all right?
Colby: Uh, he went out. I don't know where, and I'm fine.
Krystal: Wait a minute, Colby. Honey, I've never seen you like this. What's wrong? Is there anything I can do to help?
Colby: I think you've done enough already.
Krystal: What are you talking about?
Colby: You know. You married him.
Krystal: You're upset because of David.
Colby: He's the one who's trying to destroy my family, and he may have already gotten my dad.
Krystal: What happened to Adam?
Colby: He's missing. My dad is missing because of your husband. They found his car wrapped around a tree here in Pine Valley this morning. So I hope you're happy.
Erica: Adam, I've never known you to even hint at any kind of weakness. I -- is it bad?
Adam: Bad? I don't know. I don't know whether it's bad. I just know that there's something wrong. I haven't been myself. I'm not thinking clearly these days.
Erica: Oh, well, Adam, let me tell you. There are plenty of people around here who are not thinking clearly these days, so -- I mean, maybe we should just get you back to the hospital, and -- and have the best specialists in the field have a look at you and just figure this out.
Adam: What makes you think I want to know? Chandler Enterprises is hanging on by its fingernails. The last thing I need is to tell the public there's something wrong with my health. Publicity like that will kill my company for good.
Erica: Well, Adam, your health is a lot more important than your business.
Adam: Thanks for the fortune cookie, but you're wrong. I have my family to think of, my legacy.
Erica: Adam, look, if you need medical help -- I mean -- look, you are so frustrating! If you had no intention of taking any help whatsoever, why in the world did you even come back here?
Adam: Hey, Hayward is looking for blood. If he gets a hint that there's something wrong with my health, he'll use it to prove I'm incompetent, that I can't take care of my own grandson.
Erica: Well, of course, you can. I mean, that's just ridiculous.
Adam: Look at this. See it? Right here. I did this by running into a tree with my car. I don't have any memory of it. I just woke up, and there it was. Erica, you are the only person that I can turn to now. J.R. has his own problems. I need -- you're the only person I can trust. I need you, Erica. I need you. Will you help me?
Erica: What do you want me to do?
Adam: Right now? Just, you know, give me some cover. Let me stay here for a while?
Erica: You know something, let's talk about this some more, but right now, I really have to go to the hospital. Little Ian is about to have some heart surgery, and I -- I --
Adam: My God, why didn't you tell me? No, you go on. Go, go, go.
Erica: Adam, are you sure that you're going to be here? You'll be all right here by yourself?
Adam: Yes, of course, I am. I'm fine.
Erica: All right.
J.R.: What are you doing here?
Adam: I don't suppose I can convince you two to turn around and pretend you never saw me.
J.R.: Hmm, no.
Tad: Adam, are you ok?
Adam: Why don't you go and make sure little Ian pulls through? Don't worry about me. I'll be fine.
J.R.: Do you have any idea what you've been putting us all through, thinking that you were in danger while you're here shacking it up with Erica?
Adam: You don't have any idea of what's going on here.
J.R.: Do you know how upset Colby is? Yeah, the cops, they swung by the house, told us about the car that you wrapped around a tree. Colby's a wreck. How's that make you feel, Dad?
Tad: I'm sure your father has a good excuse. So what is it? What the hell's going on?
Aidan: Is there a person named Tori here?
Dr. Burke: No. Annie must have said something to you about this Tori person before she lost control.
Aidan: Yeah, actually, I have heard that name.
Dr. Burke: In what context? You know who she is?
Annie: I murdered somebody. I know it.
Aidan: No, maybe just someone Annie used to work with. I'm sure it doesn't mean anything. What do you think it might mean?
Dr. Burke: Could be anything. We'll just have to see where Annie heads from here.
Aidan: Do you think this is a serious setback? I mean, you said that she was doing so well.
Dr. Burke: Sometimes these outbursts come just as a patient's making a breakthrough. Then again, it could be a signal of regression. Regardless, we're going to have to keep a closer eye on her.
Dr. Burke: This may be nothing, but if Annie mentions this Tori again when you two are alone, you need to make sure I hear about it.
Aidan: Because you need to keep the D.A. in the loop. I understand.
Zach: This isn't helping Ian, and that's why we're all here, right, to help Ian?
Kendall: Ryan came by to drop this off.
Ryan: You know, Spike made it for Ian, and he insisted that I bring it by right away, so --
Ryan: Well, what?
Reese: I don't know. Kendall took a shot at me. You want one?
Ryan: Why didn't you just seduce him and take him as far away from here as possible when you had the chance?
J.R.: Why didn't you stay in the hospital?
Adam: Because there's nothing wrong with me, and you need me right here. Little Adam in foster care? How could you let that happen?
J.R.: I tried to stop it, but you didn't help matters much by not leaving the country with him in the first place!
Tad: Both of you standing around arguing is not going to help Adam. It's not going to get the charges against you dropped.
Adam: Charges? I thought -- I thought they just wanted to question me.
Tad: Adam, you're wanted for kidnapping.
J.R.: I've already been arrested.
Adam: Kidnapping my own grandson? That's -- that's ridiculous.
J.R.: Hayward pushed it through. I told Jesse that the charges won't stick on account that you were in the hospital, and you weren't running anywhere.
Adam: Oh, you told him that.
Adam: Why didn't you just send out a press release to all the shareholders? There's nothing wrong with me, damn it.
Tad: Are you sure?
Adam: I don't need your diagnosis, Martin. I've had enough idiots telling me what they think.
Tad: He certainly seems ok to me. I got to go talk to Jesse, see what's going on with the case. If I can get the charges dropped, old happy pants won't have to be booked.
[Door opens and closes]
Adam: Why did you involve him?
J.R.: Because I was worried about you. I still am.
Adam: What is that?
J.R.: I was hoping you could tell me.
Adam: It's Erica. Who drew it?
J.R.: You did. But you told everybody it was your sister Lottie.
Adam: Oh, that. That thing. I was pretending to be Stuart, remember? I drew some pictures.
J.R.: Then why did you tell everyone it was your dead sister?
Adam: Well, as I said, I was pretending to be Stuart. I was making up things, thinking about our childhood again, but now, we have to go on the offensive. I am going to call in some favors from some judges, find out where they're keeping Little Adam.
J.R.: There's no need. I know where he is.
Adam: You do? Where?
J.R.: I'm not going to tell you.
Adam: Don't -- don't be an idiot. We have to know where he is, know if he's all right.
J.R.: He's fine.
Adam: How do you know?
J.R.: Because I've seen him.
Adam: Good. Good. That's good. Don't -- don't keep me out of the loop on this, J.R. That's exactly what Hayward wants. We have to be united on this.
J.R.: When it comes to taking care of Little Adam, the only person I can rely on is myself.
Adam: We both know you don't stand a chance against Hayward.
Pete: Colby! Sorry. It took forever for me to find Tad's shovel.
Colby: What are you doing with that?
Pete: I was going to help you bury the -- did you do it already?
Colby: Do what? Bury what?
Pete: David Hayward.
Colby: What are you talking about?
Pete: The other day -- the last time I saw you you were freaking out because you thought David Hayward was going to do something terrible to your family -- remember? And then you looked like you were going to do something crazy to stop him, and I told if you need an alibi or anything, just to call, and then, I get a text, you know, to meet you in the middle of nowhere where you could hide a body.
Colby: You can lose the shovel. I didn't kill anyone. Not yet, anyway.
Pete: Thank God. So, what are we doing here?
Colby: Did you see the skid marks and the tree missing a chunk up by the road? My dad's car did that. If he was driving, and he's hurt, and he wandered off, I need to find him.
Pete: I'm flattered that you think my semi superpowers would solve this mystery, but don't you think it be better just to call the police?
Colby: J.R.'s too worried the cops will arrest Dad for these kidnapping charges. Tad and J.R. had an idea where to look, but I haven't heard from them, nobody is answering their phones, and I couldn't sit around the house waiting any longer.
Pete: Ok, ok. I've -- I've got it. The case of the missing mogul. Any clues?
Colby: Not unless my dad starting drinking coffee super action drinks.
Pete: Well, this has lipstick on it, so we can rule this out. Um, any footprints?
Colby: Not really.
Colby: Did you find him? Thank God, where is he? J.R., tell me. I have a right to know. Don't hang up on me. Don't hang up --
Pete: Well, the first part sounded positive.
Colby: J.R. thinks I'm a risk to our dad's safety. The cops could follow me to where he's hiding out.
Pete: Well, C-man's safe. Case closed.
Colby: My own brother doesn't trust me to protect my father, while you show up ready to dig a grave, no questions asked. What's wrong with this picture?
Pete: From my vantage point? Nothing at all.
Ryan: Because that what you wanted, isn't it? To run away with him? And it sure would have made life a lot easier for the rest of us.
Reese: Oh, ok. Well, there's a problem with that. I don't love Zach. I never have, all right? And I never stopped loving Bianca.
Ryan: Then what are you still doing here?
Reese: I heard that Ian was sick, and I wanted to check in on him.
Erica: Hi. Any word?
Ryan: Not -- not yet. Not yet.
Erica: Where's Kendall?
Kendall: I shouldn't have gone off on Reese like that. I guess I'm just so worried. I took it out on her.
Zach: Well, you've got to stop. You've got to stop blaming Reese for what happened between you and me. This is on us.
Kendall: I've stopped blaming other people for our marriage failing. I can't just start pointing fingers again, because I'm scared to death. It all went so wrong. Ever since I find out about Gabrielle, I've just been pushing you away, and you went running to Reese. I went running to Ryan.
Dr. Burke: Well, Annie. How are you?
Annie: I'm not sure.
Dr. Burke: I want to talk about what made you so upset earlier. I've been chatting with Aidan here about Tori. Do you want to tell me about her?
Dr. Burke: Tori? The name you were calling. Aidan doesn't think that the name is important, but I wanted to hear from you. Who's Tori?
Annie: She's no one. I don't know anybody named Tori.
Dr. Burke: All right. Well, let's get you comfortable.
David: Ian pulled through ok. We patched the tear in his aortic valve, and his vitals are all good.
Kendall: Oh, thank God.
Zach: So that's it. He's fixed.
David: No, no. I mean, your son just went through open-heart surgery. The strain on his heart was significant. There's also the possibility of infection. So let's just take one step at a time. He pulled through this, ok, and he's a very strong boy. The next 24 hours will be crucial.
Erica: David, I really do know how difficult this had to be for you, and thank you.
Kendall: When can I see him?
David: Right now. He's still sleeping, but he's in recovery.
Kendall: Are you coming?
Zach: Yeah, yeah, in a minute.
Zach: Thank you.
Zach: Uh, it's the business I'm in, so what -- what are the odds?
David: More than 50%, but let's not dwell on the odds right now, ok? Your son made it off the operating table without any complications. As far as I'm concerned, he's more than halfway up the field.
David: So far, so good.
Krystal: He's lucky to have you. How are you?
David: Well, let's just say I'm glad it's over.
David: What's wrong?
Krystal: Nothing. I just have a stitch in my side. Listen, I rushed over here to see you.
David: Why? Is everything all right?
Krystal: Well, I went over to the Chandler Mansion. Colby wasn't happy to see me. They found Adam's car this morning in Pine Valley. It had been in accident and then abandoned.
David: So he's back in town.
Jesse: Damn it!
Tad: You do know that's vandalism?
Jesse: Damn machine ate my dollar.
Tad: Why don't you take it downtown and beat it to death with a rubber hose? And besides, there's a trick to it, ok? You just have got to know how to negotiate with these things. Yeah, that'll teach it.
Jesse: That works. Why didn't I think of that?
David: Hubbard. Why wasn't I told Adam Chandler's car was found today?
Jesse: Maybe because you weren't on my e-mail list.
David: The man kidnapped my grandson. There's a warrant out for his arrest. I expect to be told when information like this comes up.
Jesse: A little shock here maybe, but, you know, you are not my top priority, Hayward.
David: That son of a bitch is in town. I want him arrested and thrown in jail.
Jesse: I'll drop you a note as soon as something comes up. Go away!
Jesse: I can't stand that guy.
Annie: I didn't tell him anything about Tori. That is what you were trying to tell me, wasn't it?
Annie: But why though? I mean, he's not like Dr. Sinclair. He wants to help me.
Aidan: Well, he has to report everything back to the D.A., and the charges against you haven't been dropped. Look, no one needs to know that you think you might have killed someone else.
Annie: Or that I am seeing people that aren't there.
Aidan: Yeah, but she's -- maybe she was somewhere, and that's why you keep -- keep seeing her.
Annie: I don't understand.
Aidan: I need you to think. Think of her, all right? Not Tori as a grown woman, like you've been seeing her, but I need you think of -- think of her as a little girl.
Annie: I -- I still don't know what you mean.
Aidan: Remember I told you I was going to do some research, right? Well, I did some digging into some newspaper files from the paper where you grew up, and around about the time of your seventh birthday, a girl went missing, and her name was Tori.
[Annie gasps as she remembers the past]
Annie: Tori was my friend, and I killed her. I killed her.
Tad: You know, my friend, the thought occurs that you can help me out and get David's goat at the same time.
Jesse: Why do I all of the sudden feel like you're about to make my life even more complicated than it already is?
Tad: It's my job. Look, these kidnapping charges, you've got to drop them. It's a joke, ok? It's ridiculous. Little Adam is safe. Adam is his grandfather. He wasn't kidnapping him, and J.R. told you about his dad being in the hospital.
Jesse: So, now you are campaigning for Adam Chandler? My brain hurts.
Tad: Off the record?
Tad: Adam is back in town. I just saw him. And before you ask me, the answer is no. I'm not going to tell you where, but you and I both know that Hayward set up this whole three-ring circus in the first place. It's ridiculous. You've got to drop the charges.
Jesse: Now, you know better than that. It's not that easy for me. The d -- Tad?
Tad: No, but I know -- what I know is the Jesse Hubbard that I know could get it done if he wanted to, and it's the right thing to do. And Hayward's a bonus. Look at it this way. We get to sit back, eat snacks, watch him bounce off the wall, acting like Rumpelstiltskin. You know you want it.
Krystal: Hey. What did you find out? Did they find Adam?
David: Not that I know of, but if Adam is back in town, he can't stay hidden forever.
Krystal: Do you think he was hurt?
David: With any luck, he stumbled into the woods somewhere and keeled over from a heart attack.
Krystal: Come on, you don't mean that.
David: The hell I don't. With Adam out of the picture, it will certainly make our lives a lot easier. J.R. would fold over like a cheap $20 suit, and it would leave us as the only choice that judge could make.
Krystal: Let's not talk like that, ok? Come on.
David: All right. It's been a rough day. Let's go home. Come on.
Adam: I came back to help. Why are you so angry?
J.R.: Well, why didn't you tell me how bad the company had gotten? It completely caught me off guard.
Adam: I thought maybe I could pull it off myself. How bad is it?
J.R.: It's pretty bad. Barry and I have gone over all the assets. We've dumped the losers, been able to keep the company afloat, but just barely.
Adam: Right. I'm glad you took action. But I'm back now. I'll dive in first thing in the morning.
J.R.: Are you well enough?
Adam: I've told you there's nothing wrong with me. Nothing. We need to pull together to keep the family business afloat and drive Hayward into the dirt.
J.R.: But what about our interest in Fusion? I mean, it's the only drag that's left on our books.
Adam: We'll keep Fusion alive for now.
J.R.: I had a feeling you'd say that.
Adam: Hmm. Ah, how's Ian?
Erica: Well, the surgery went very well. He came through it just fine, and so --
Adam: Oh, wonderful.
Adam: Wonderful news.
J.R.: Yeah, well, I've got work to do. I assume that you're going to be staying here?
Adam: We'll see.
Erica: Ok. Well, I overheard you talking about Fusion. So, you still believe in me as a business woman.
Adam: I believe in you as all sorts of woman. What about me? Do you have faith in me?
Erica: Unfortunately, yes, I do.
Adam: Why unfortunately?
Erica: Because I'm afraid that it's going to be my downfall some day.
Adam: No man could ever bring you down, Erica.
Erica: Right. Of course, not. So I fully expect you to fall on your sword if the time ever comes.
Adam: Ah. I look forward to the privilege.
Reese: Look, I really do care about Ian, and what's happened to him is terrible.
Ryan: I'm not going to text Bianca and let her know that you're sitting vigil, if that's what you're waiting for me to do.
Reese: Wow. And to think that we almost shared our wedding day with you.
Ryan: I know. What a farce that would have been.
Reese: Really? Is that what you think? Because it wasn't a farce to me. I meant, every vow that I took.
Ryan: Whatever you say.
Reese: Wow. You know, um, Ryan, what if Bianca forgives me? Because it's possible. Do you know what that would mean? It would mean that she could forgive what I did and get over it, but you couldn't. Why don't you just go home? Because from what it looks like to me, Kendall's not coming back.
Ryan: Wow. You could be a real bitch, you know that?
Reese: Just calling it as I see it.
[Kendall takes Zach's hand as they watch over their little boy in recovery]
