J.R.: You were in on this? For full custody?
David: It's in the best interests of the child.
J.R.: I'm not talking to you. How could you do this to me?
David: Enjoy the read. Come on.
Amanda: It's -- it's ok, J.R.
J.R.: It's going to be ok? The bastard wants my son.
Amanda: He won't get him.
J.R.: You don't know that.
Amanda: You're a great father.
J.R.: Yeah, when I'm sober.
Amanda: Well, from now on, that's all the time, right? So I'll testify.
J.R.: The character witness is great, but that's not going to be enough.
Amanda: I meant that I'll testify to my shady part in it. He paid me to get you to drink, J.R. It would ruin his case.
J.R.: You would do that for me?
Amanda: If it meant that you got to keep Little A.
Krystal: I know we're doing what's best for Little A, but the look on J.R.'s face -- Babe loved him.
David: She loved her son, too, right? Even more. Don't you think she'd want us to protect him?
Krystal: Yes. Yes, of course.
David: Damn it.
Krystal: What? What?
David: J.R. and Amanda just waltzed out of here like nothing happened.
David: So unless J.R. really is an idiot, Amanda's about to run her mouth. If a judge learns that I paid someone to knock J.R. off the wagon --
Krystal: Then they'll never grant us custody.
David: Right, right. And our grandson will get a cocktail shaker for his fifth birthday.
Krystal: There must be something we can do.
David: What -- what? If I had some leverage, maybe. But, you know, to force Amanda not to testify -- but I'm out, Krystal. I don't have a damn thing. [Sighs]
Kendall: Look me in the eye and swear to me that I can trust you. Swear that you are not using me to bring down Zach.
Ryan: I have no intention of hurting you, Kendall.
Kendall: That's not the question, Ryan. Are you using me to get to Zach?
Ryan: No. No, me working with you at Fusion is to honor Greenlee, but if you are uncomfortable in any way about it, you don't think it's a good idea, I get it. I'll understand that.
Kendall: So you would sell your shares, just like that?
Ryan: You say the word, I walk away.
Aidan: Why so urgent?
Zach: I need you to do something for me. Something that involves your old friend Ryan Lavery.
Aidan: Ryan's no longer a friend of mine.
Zach: That's what I'm counting on. I want you to work for me.
Aidan: I'm sure we've done this before, haven't we?
Zach: Yeah, but now everything's out in the open.
Aidan: All right, so how is this connected to Ryan, then?
Zach: Take the job and find out.
Kendall: I am not buying you out.
Ryan: Are you sure? Because I'm serious here. I know that Fusion is your baby.
Kendall: Not just mine. I mean, I thought Greenlee and I would run the place forever. You know, I'd be old and she'd be gray.
Ryan: You'd both be completely wrinkle-free.
Kendall: Yes. Yeah, of course. We'd still be bickering over the new product name, or some fancy sparkling eye shadow. I'm sorry.
Ryan: For what?
Kendall: Well, for going on about how much I miss her when you clearly do, too.
Ryan: You loved her, too, Kendall.
Kendall: Yeah, I really did. Which is why you are keeping your shares.
Ryan: Are you sure?
Kendall: Yeah. Yeah -- yeah, I am. I mean, this is what Greenlee wanted.
Ryan: Yeah, but it's not what Zach wants. I mean, he hates the idea.
Kendall: Ok, but this has nothing to do with Zach or my mother or you and me. This is exactly what Greenlee wanted. She wanted us to work together.
Ryan: Yeah, well, don't forget who we're dealing with here. I mean, maybe Greenlee left me all of her shares so she could look down and watch me trying on the lipstick or something.
Kendall: That's a sight.
Ryan: She's probably laughing her ass off up in heaven right now.
Kendall: Well, then that would definitely make it worth it. All kidding aside, you know that if you do this, this is not going to be easy.
Ryan: Kendall, with you as a partner, I will be ready for anything.
Zach: I need someone to protect my interests.
Aidan: From Ryan? What, do you think he's some kind of threat?
Zach: Well, he thinks he is. Greenlee's gone, he thinks it's my fault. I took from him, he's going to take from me.
Aidan: How do you know?
Zach: He told me. He and Kendall are running Fusion together and just -- anything goes down, I need to know about it. You got a problem with that?
Aidan: No, why would I have a problem?
Zach: You loved Greenlee once. You think I'm responsible for her dying, too?
Aidan: Greenlee's dead for one reason. Ryan promises to protect the women who love him, and they all end up twisting in the wind.
Zach: So we're agreed?
Aidan: I didn't say that. How far do you think Ryan's going to take this?
Zach: Don't know, but we'll find out.
Aidan: And you? I mean, if I catch Ryan making a move?
Zach: I'll do what I have to do.
Tad: Hey, Brot, have you seen my brother Jake?
Brot: No, sorry.
Tad: Are you sure? Dark hair, dreamy eyes, likes to take long walks on the beach?
Brot: Listen, I know who your damn brother is, ok?
Tad: You're in a bad mood. You all right?
Brot: I'm fine. What -- why does everyone keep asking me that damn question?
Tad: Because you're biting their heads off. I'm just throwing it out there.
Brot: Listen, my job is to transport these supplies, ok? It's not to keep tabs on the entire staff.
Tad: I didn't ask you about the entire staff.
Brot: I've got to get out of here.
Tad: What about this stuff?
Brot: Supply Room 324. Take care.
Krystal: David. Please, honey, just calm down.
David: We were so close, Krystal. Little A was ours. Now turncoat Barbie's about to take it all away.
Krystal: Amanda hasn't done anything yet.
David: No, no, no, she will. Believe me, she will. Oh, for crying out loud. So I paid Amanda to get J.R. drunk. Underhanded? Yeah, ok. Cruel? Maybe. I did it all for our grandson. I mean, we all know that -- that J.R. was bound to fall off the wagon eventually, right? So why drag it out? So Little A could be older, more mature? So he could be totally destroyed by his dear old dad? I'm telling you, Krystal, it was better this way for everyone, until Amanda sprouted a conscience. That little twit is about to ruin everything.
Krystal: David. Tell me you love me.
Krystal: Just tell me you love me.
David: You know I love you, Krystal. I mean, that's why I married you.
Krystal: I just need to know that it's real. And that you're not going to leave me.
David: Of course, I'm not.
Krystal: No matter what comes between us?
David: What could come between us?
Krystal: A child.
David: You mean Little Adam?
Krystal: No. I --
David: Krystal, what child? Amanda. Amanda's baby is mine?
Krystal: I am so sorry that I didn't tell you.
David: So it's true? How long have you known this?
Krystal: Since the Heart Health Benefit. I confronted Amanda.
Krystal: She admitted it. She begged me not to say anything and -- look, I know it was wrong, but I agreed to it, David. I had to. I was so afraid of losing you. I still am.
David: Come here. I'm not going anywhere.
Krystal: I wouldn't blame you if you did.
David: I love you, Krystal. Maybe one of these days, you'll actually believe that.
Krystal: So you're really not mad?
David: Mad? Are you kidding? You just gave me exactly what I need. Listen to me. This baby may be mine, but J.R. still thinks it's his, and something tells me Amanda would do anything to keep it that way, including wiring her mouth shut. So they get their warped happily-ever-after and we -- we get Little A.
Krystal: You make it sound so easy.
David: Isn't it?
Krystal: That baby Amanda is carrying is your flesh and blood. Do you really think you can just walk away?
Taylor: Wow, to what do I owe this honor? You didn't bring me another meal, did you?
Tad: No, this time I'm empty-handed.
Taylor: Oh, well, in that case.
[Taylor begins to shut her door]
Tad: [Laughs] The new guy for the, uh -- I'd kind of like to talk to you, honey. Can I come in for a second?
Taylor: Sure, come on in.
Tad: Thanks. Um --
Taylor: You don't look too good, if you don't mind me saying.
Tad: I just came from the hospital.
Taylor: Everything all right?
Tad: Well, yeah and no.
Taylor: Thank you for clearing that up.
Tad: It's Brot. See, I mean, I know that I certainly don't know him very well, and it's none of my business --
Taylor: No, let me guess. He chewed you out?
Tad: Wow, that was quick.
Taylor: It's his anniversary today. Two years since the explosion.
Tad: That's not exactly an anniversary you feel like celebrating, is it? Well, how come he's at work? Come on, why isn't he here with you?
Taylor: Because this is something that he needs to figure out on his own.
Tad: Taylor, no offense, but he's not doing a very good job.
Taylor: It was the worst day of his life. The worst day of both our lives. And I see what you're doing, and I'm telling you, we would not be good together, not today.
[Gunfire and explosions]
First recruit: Whoo! Whoo! He just said that. Two beers. Three days, can you believe it?
Second recruit: Man, I can't wait to get over there and kick some Taliban ass.
First recruit: Taliban's in Afghanistan, genius.
Second recruit: You kidding me? They're hiding out everywhere.
First recruit: Here's to some serious action.
Brot: Action? You guys want to see action? How's this? Take a look. Is this exciting enough for you?
First recruit: What's your problem?
Brot: You and you. Listen, I know you just joined the military and you're proud to wear this uniform, but war is not a video game. You just can't reset it whenever you like. The truth is -- is that not everyone comes home, and if you do, they're not the same. They'll never be the same.
Ryan: It's Brot, right? Hey, why don't I buy you a drink, man?
Brot: I don't need a drink, all right?
Ryan: Yeah, well, I sure as hell do.
Aidan: I'll take the job.
Aidan: On one condition. You get Annie released from Oak Haven, and when she's well enough, you keep her out of prison.
Zach: You're kidding, right?
Aidan: No, I'm serious. Otherwise, no deal.
Zach: You want me to have Annie released?
Aidan: Well, if anyone knows what strings to pull, it's you.
Zach: Yeah, but she's -- she's not well. I mean, you know, she's got problems. She's deeply troubled.
Aidan: Not anymore.
Zach: Not anymore? She killed her own brother.
Aidan: You didn't have a problem with that before. If I remember correctly, you helped her keep the secret.
Zach: I don't have a problem with it now. I thought maybe you might. She went after Greenlee, too.
Aidan: I know.
Zach: But still you want me to have her released?
Aidan: You haven't seen her, Zach. She's getting better. I mean, is she totally rehabilitated? No. But she will be, and when she is, I don't want her locked up.
Zach: Can I ask you something? What's your investment in all this?
Aidan: What can I say? I'm a sucker for the underdog. We both know why Annie lost it. She didn't do this to herself. In fact, the very man that you want me to contain drove her to it. So by helping you that means helping her, well, then you can consider me on board.
Zach: And you may have a chance to put Lavery in his place.
Aidan: All the better for Annie.
Zach: All the better for everyone.
Aidan: So do we have a deal or not?
Kendall: What the hell is this?
Tad: So, David finally shows his hand.
Amanda: But it's ok. Once the judge hears his plan to sabotage J.R., he's never going to let him have Little A. I'm going to make it right, I promise.
Tad: I just can't believe Krystal signed this.
J.R.: She dropped it off with David and the process server.
Tad: I'm sorry. I knew she'd gotten messed up, but I had no idea how messed up.
J.R.: Krystal is not the same woman she used to be, Tad.
Tad: Now who the hell is she?
David: I don't care about Amanda's baby. So it has my DNA. I don't want to raise a family with her. I want to raise a family with you, Krystal. I want to give our grandson everything I couldn't give Babe, everything that she would want him to have.
Krystal: I know, I know, but --
David: No, no buts. This is my life now, Krystal. You, me, Little Adam, and Jenny.
Krystal: Really? Really, you don't need anything else?
David: No. All I need is you.
Zach: Just in time.
Kendall: In time for what, The Twilight Zone?
Zach: To welcome Aidan aboard.
Kendall: Welcome. Welcome aboard what?
Zach: He's going to work for me at Cambias.
Kendall: Oh, I see. Ok, so the second time's a charm, huh?
Zach: Let's hope so. Come on. I want you to go down to the casino, talk to Francesca, she's the manager. And that matter we discussed, top priority.
Kendall: Ok, he's gone.
Zach: Yeah, he's gone.
Kendall: All right, so now you can tell me what that was really about.
Zach: Oh, I had a position at Cambias, he filled it.
Kendall: Right. Aidan? The man I slept with. The man who nearly tore us apart. You're going to start punching the clock with him? Zach, that makes no sense.
Zach: It makes as much sense as you working with Ryan.
Brot: You know, it won't make sense until they get there, but wait until they get home scarred, because they will.
Ryan: Not everybody goes through what you did, right?
Brot: Look at you, with your cushy life and your designer clothes. You wouldn't know the first thing about suffering.
Ryan: Not like you do, no. I'm not trying to imply that at all. But I do know a little bit about suffering.
Brot: You're a funny guy. What happened? Your fancy sports car didn't start this morning?
Ryan: No. My fiancée died on our wedding day. So don't be so quick to judge.
Brot: So sorry to hear that, man.
Ryan: It's all right. But that's -- you know, that's why I'm here. I'm here because I don't really -- I don't really know where else to go.
Brot: Well, that makes two of us. Listen, two years ago today, I was involved in an explosion that almost killed me. It explains why I look the way I do, and it also explains why I got mad at those recruits earlier.
Ryan: And it's also why you're having such a lousy day, I guess. Hey, don't you have a girlfriend? Taylor, or something like that?
Ryan: Well, then why aren't you with her?
Brot: Just hanging out today, and I felt -- I didn't want to burden her with all of this.
Ryan: It's got to be a hell of a lot better than hanging out here with me.
Brot: Yeah, you have a point. Yeah, you're right. Thanks, man.
Ryan: All right.
Kendall: So is this an eye for an eye? I work with Ryan, so you take on Aidan?
Kendall: Well, that's what it seems like.
Zach: Well, I'm sorry about that. I had a job opening, he took it.
Kendall: What kind of a job?
Kendall: And that's it?
Zach: That's it.
Kendall: Ok. So this has got nothing to do with the fact that I slept with him? Oh, and I guess it's got nothing to do with Ryan, either, the man that you clearly hate?
Zach: I'm not the one out there threatening people, am I?
Kendall: Come on, Zach. When is this going to end? When is it ever going to be just about us?
Zach: It's never about us. You won't let it.
Kendall: Right, ok. So once again, it's my fault?
Zach: I'm not saying it's your fault. I take responsibility, and you know what? Maybe you're right. Maybe this is about Aidan. Ok. I can't get past it, so I gave him a job so I can work through it.
Kendall: You didn't hire Aidan out of the goodness of your heart. You hired him out of guilt. To make yourself feel better about what you did with Reese. To remind everyone, "Hey, guess what, Kendall cheated, too."
Zach: No, that's not what I did.
Kendall: No, see, except it's different, Zach. You cannot compare them. You can't. Yes, yes, I slept with Aidan. It was meaningless. It was spontaneous. I was -- I was scared. I was in grief over you. But what you did with Reese --
Zach: Don't stop now.
Kendall: What you did with Reese was anticipated. You thought about it. You struggled with it. Your heart -- your heart was engaged on some level, and even though I know you fought it, eventually you gave into it, and that's what makes it worse. That's what makes it betrayal, and you know it.
Krystal: You're not going to the hospital, are you?
David: No, I'm not.
Krystal: You're going to see Amanda. What are you going to tell her?
David: The truth. That if she opens her mouth about our little arrangement, I'll be forced to open mine.
Krystal: And what if she doesn't care?
David: Are you kidding? Of course, she will. That child is her golden ticket, the way to hang on to Junior. If he finds out it's not his kid, her entire future goes up in smoke.
Krystal: You think she's going to play along?
David: If she has any brain cells left. Unfortunately, that's debatable.
Krystal: Just tell me everything is going to be ok.
David: Everything is going to be fantastic. I'll make sure of it. For us, Little A, but especially for Babe.
Aidan: Francesca? Aidan Devane.
Francesca: How may I help you, Mr. Devane?
Aidan: Zach hired me to head up his personal security.
Francesca: Personal security? Has he received some kind of threat?
Aidan: Multiple threats, actually. He said that you'd give me access to files, security cameras, things like that.
Francesca: If you don't mind waiting, I'd like to verify with Mr. Slater first.
Aidan: Sure. Take your time. Hey, Ryan.
Ryan: Hello. What are you doing here?
Aidan: I'm celebrating. Zach offered me a job.
Ryan: And you consider that good news?
Aidan: Well, at least I'm doing something constructive. What have you done, taken up gambling? It's part of the grieving process, or is this just the closest bar?
Ryan: Can we not get into this right now, please? I don't have it in me.
Aidan: Sure. Fair enough.
Ryan: Hey, I think it's great that you ended up showing up to Greenlee's memorial service. That would have meant a lot to her.
Aidan: I loved her, once upon a time. That stuff doesn't just go away.
Ryan: How is Annie?
Aidan: She's getting better every day.
Ryan: Is she really? Well, that's good news. I mean, that's something to celebrate. Look, I know you don't think I have any right to ask how she's doing, but Annie and I had a once-upon-a-time, too, ok? And we share a daughter.
Aidan: Who you wouldn't let visit her at the hospital.
Ryan: Ok, I see the small talk is over. I will jump right to the warning. Watch your back. Slater will cross you at any time.
Aidan: Don't worry about me, Ryan. I know who I can and can't trust.
Ryan: Believe me, Aidan, so do I.
Zach: You want to talk about betrayal? You just teamed up with a man who wants to take everything I love -- everything away from me.
Kendall: Ryan just lost the love of his life. He's angry.
Zach: And I guess that makes it ok.
Kendall: All right, what's going on between you and Ryan, it's got nothing to do with me.
Zach: How can you say that after everything he's done, everything he's said to me, to you?
Kendall: Out of grief.
Zach: And he meant every word of it.
Kendall: Ok, Zach, I asked him to stop. I practically begged him to leave you alone.
Zach: How is that going?
Kendall: He's my friend.
Zach: I'm your husband.
Kendall: I won't turn my back on him.
Zach: But you will turn your back on me? What happened to Team Slater? What happened to always, only us?
Kendall: Team Slater. Ok. Where was your team loyalty when you were sucking face with Reese that night, huh? Was it taking a breather?
Zach: You asked me to push her away, and I did.
Kendall: And that's what you want me to do now. You want me to cut Ryan off. No.
Zach: That's all I get -- no?
Kendall: We can't do that to him, Zach. Spike is Ryan's son.
Zach: Spike is my son, too. He lives here in my house with my other beautiful son, with my beautiful wife -- my family. And no one, not even Ryan, will take that away from me. I'm sorry. I --
Kendall: We were both wrong. This isn't Aidan's fault. Or Ryan's, or Reese's. I mean, it's really easy for us to blame everybody else, but at the end of the day --
Zach: It's you and me.
Kendall: Yeah. Something is missing, Zach. I don't know when or why, but a piece of us is gone.
Zach: Well, let's find it, ok?
Kendall: But isn't that what we've been trying to do? We've been trying to piece ourselves together. I mean, things haven't been right for a long time now.
Zach: I know.
Kendall: And since the tornadoes hit, I've had this feeling like I wasn't enough. Or, I don't know, like I wasn't as good as I used to be, or something.
Zach: You're always enough.
Kendall: Am I? I don't know. I mean, I don't know how to fix things.
Zach: Well, I know this isn't working. Pointing fingers and blaming each other and bringing up the past, that's not good for us, not good for the boys.
Kendall: What are you saying?
Zach: I'm going to pack a few things, move to the casino, and give us some space.
Kendall: For how long?
Zach: I don't know. As long as it takes.
Taylor: I just thought you might want to be alone today, that's all.
Brot: So did I. But the truth is, it's your memory, too, L.T.
Taylor: But it's not the same. And I completely understand if it's just too hard to be around me.
Brot: No, no. It's not as hard as staying away. The truth is, I've been carrying this day on my own for two years now. This isn't easy, but you think you can shoulder some of the weight?
Taylor: Well, lucky for you, I've been working out.
Tad: Get your stuff.
Tad: Get your stuff. You know, your toothbrush, underwear, demon repellent, anything you're going to need, because you're coming with me.
Krystal: What in God's name is wrong with you?
Tad: I was just going to ask you the same question. Suing J.R. for custody? Really?
Krystal: I did it for Little A.
Tad: The hell you did. You did it for David. You do everything for David. You abandon your family, you start popping pills, but you've never been cruel. This is just unbelievable.
Krystal: I found my grandson after he chugged a glass of Scotch.
Tad: It was --
Krystal: You think that's ok?
Tad: An accident.
Krystal: It could've killed him!
Tad: Look, kids get into things, Krystal. It happens. Does that give you the right to rip him away from his father? From his home?
Krystal: You know what? You ripped Jenny away from me for far less than that, Tad. But no, it's ok, because that's your daughter.
Tad: I never cut you out of our daughter's life.
Krystal: I don't know if you noticed or not, but J.R.'s got his head half up a bottle.
Tad: Not anymore. Look, he fell off the wagon when Babe died. Who can blame him? He was grieving, you know. He turned to booze. You turned to Hayward.
Krystal: So you're comparing David to alcohol?
Tad: No, I'm comparing David to poison, because that's the only thing I can think of that would force you to sign those papers.
Krystal: My conscience forced me. It was the right thing to do, Tad.
Tad: Babe wouldn't agree with you, and you know it.
Krystal: I promised Babe on her deathbed that I would watch over Little Adam, that I would take care of him.
Tad: You promised her you would take care of J.R.
Krystal: J.R. is not my problem.
Tad: Who the hell are you?
Krystal: I am David Hayward's wife.
David: Hello, Amanda.
Amanda: How the hell did you get in -- what are you doing here?
David: Tad should really keep that back door locked. You never know what dangerous person might just wander in. No, no, no -- sit. Relax. Wouldn't want to injure that baby. Or should I say our baby?
Amanda: For the last time, this baby is J.R.'s.
David: Krystal told me everything, Amanda.
Amanda: What are you going to do?
David: Nothing. And neither are you. Your plan to rat me out for Junior's case, that ends right here and now.
Amanda: How did you even know about --
David: It doesn't matter. What matters is this -- one word about our arrangement, and I tell everyone, including J.R., that that baby belongs to me. Mmm, a Hayward heir. I couldn't be more thrilled.
Amanda: You will not take my baby away from me.
David: Not if you keep your mouth shut.
Krystal: I don't need to be rescued.
Tad: The hell you don't. You don't know what you need. Dixie didn't either. That's why you're coming with me.
Krystal: God, it always comes down to Dixie. You couldn't rescue her, so you're trying to save me.
Tad: Listen to me, all right? You need to get out of this house. You need to get away from him --
Krystal: Let me go!
Tad: Because it's the only chance you have of finding out what you're doing to the people who --
Krystal: Tad, I'm not going anywhere.
Tad: You don't understand. Because I'm not giving you a choice.
[Krystal knocks Tad out with a pitcher to the head]
Krystal: Tad, I said no! Tad. Tad? Oh my God, Tad?
Taylor's voice: Lifeline 2-6. This is Apache 1-6. Request MedEvac. Nine line to follow. Over. Brot, Brot, stay with me. Lifeline 2-6, do you copy? We need a MedEvac now! Move it, damn it!
Brot: No matter how many times I go back there --
Taylor: It doesn't get any easier, does it?
Brot: No. Think it ever will?
Taylor: Memory? I don't know about that. But the rest of it? Think about it. I mean, look at us, we're sitting here and we are talking about that day. I didn't even think I was ever going to see you again, and now... I just love you so much.
Brot: I ran into some recruits earlier today. You know, it reminded me of the day I decided to become a soldier.
Taylor: Do you regret it?
Brot: No. Because I never would have met you. What do you think would've happened, L.T., if that RPG had never hit? Think we'd be married? Still in Iraq? I mean, where would we have ended up?
Taylor: I have given that a lot of thought, and I think we would have ended up right where we are. Together.
Zach: All right, I kissed the boys and told Spike to take care of his little brother.
Kendall: You'll be by to see them, then?
Zach: Of course.
Kendall: Zach. I just want to thank you for making this decision for us. I don't know if I could've done it. I think that we need this time apart. Just -- I just need you to know that I love you, and throughout all of this, I've never stopped loving you. Never.
Zach: I know that. But the problem is, you've never stopped loving Ryan either.
[When Zach opens the front door, Ryan is standing there]
