Episode #10076

Provided by Laurie R.
Proofread by Gisele

J.R.:  Dr. Collins is checking him out. I can't even look at my son in the eyes.

Adam: Stop basking in self-pity. It's annoying and counterproductive.

J.R.: Oh, I'm sorry if I'm still reeling from the thought of my son toe-tagged from alcohol poisoning.

Adam: You're missing the implications of what happened here tonight. You're going to regret what happened here until the day you die, and the worst is yet to come.

Krystal: I mean, it's worse than you could even imagine.

David: What? What happened? Tell me everything.

Krystal: I walked in -- I walked in. I found our grandson on the floor alone, having polished off a glass of Scotch.

David: What the hell! Where were J.R. and Adam?

Krystal: They weren't in the room. They were not paying attention.

David: Why aren't you calling me from the hospital? You should be there. And what about Little A? I mean, is he in the ER? Did they even admit him?

Krystal: No, the paramedics said that since he threw everything up that he's -- he's going to be all right.

David: Are you sure he's ok?

Krystal: Yes, yes, they said all the alcohol is out of his system. Trust me, I would not have left him if he wasn't going to be all right. I just -- if I hadn't gone over there --

Erica: Ok, Opal, what was the emergency?

Opal: Oh, thank you so much for coming here after such an awful day. I really need it. I just had to talk to you.

Erica: Opal, Opal, come on, come on. The bottom line.

Opal: Every time I open my mouth, I put a hex on somebody's life.

[Thunder]

[Reese groans]

Angie: Your pain meds should kick back in shortly, ok? Listen, Reese, I understand how hard this is to hear, honey, but you're going to have to be patient.

Reese: Ugh, ugh, no, no.

Angie: What are you trying -- don't do that. What are you try --

Reese: No, no, I'm going to familiarize myself with -- with my surroundings. It's what the blind do, isn't it?

Angie: What you're doing is you're fighting the medication. Reese, stop!

Reese: Get off of me!

Angie: Reese, Reese, listen --

Reese: That was poorly positioned.

Angie: Reese, look, you're becoming hysterical. Listen, listen to me. I need you to hear me. I want to you to take some deep breaths, ok?

Reese: What? Oh, ok, take deep breaths? Deep breaths, what is that going to do for me, huh? Is it going to throw me into a Zen-like state? "Oh, I'm blind. I'm in pain, but it's all good."

Angie: Your tests haven't even begun to come back.

Reese: You know what? I'm going to just call somebody, and we're going to have a nice warm chat. That always makes you feel better, doesn't it?

Angie: I will be happy to call whomever you like, all right?

Reese: You know what? I don't have anyone to call. You know what? Forget this.

[Beeper sounds]

Angie: Listen, Reese, I'm going to have to leave you. I need somebody!

Reese: So just go! Leave me then! Leave me, and have a good night, a good day, a good whatever it is!

Zach: I guess I should have knocked.

[Thunder]

Zach: There should be rose petals.

Kendall: Excuse me?

Zach: Rose petals, thousands of them, with you nude in the middle.

Kendall: Ok, that isn't even mildly funny.

Zach: I'm not playing for laughs. This little seduction cliché, not funny to me at all.

Kendall: Seduction is the last thing on Ryan's mind and certainly the last on mine.

Zach: Hey, Kendall, do me a favor? Don't play me.

Opal: Look, my cosmic compass is way out of whack. I've got blood on my hands.

Erica: Opal, what are talking about?

Opal: I'm talking about I've been lying when I should have been telling the truth, and I've been telling the truth when I should have been lying. I mean, Greenlee's Tarot spread, it was just a nightmare. There was a 3 of swords, a 10 of swords, death card --

Erica: Opal, Opal, the cards didn't cause Greenlee's accident.

Opal: No, but Greenlee came to me for cosmic guidance, and I let Ryan convince me to feed her his guidance instead, and now, where is she? She's lost somewhere, cold and lonely.

Erica: Opal, Greenlee's dead. I know, I know, the lights flickered a little bit during her memorial service, but -- but that was -- that was just a momentary power failure. That's all that was. That wasn't some sign from Greenlee.

Opal: That's what I should have told Ryan, that I felt Greenlee was at peace, surrounded by, you know, light and joy, but, instead, like a fool, I had to tell him the truth.

Erica: Well, what was -- what was Ryan's reaction?

Opal: He said, "Greenlee is dead and gone. End of story." But I felt his anguish, like an ax to the heart, and then there was this flash of like hellified anger --

[Thunder]

Opal: Just like that, like that, same as with Zach's, only Zach's is on the inside.

Erica: Well, what does Zach got to do with any of this?

Opal: Well, he came here looking for Kendall after the ceremony, and I told him that she'd left with Ryan. Now I'm thinking I should've just played dumb.

Erica: Opal, are you trying to tell me you think there's something going on between Ryan and my daughter?

Opal: Well, I walked out there, and they're clinging to each other, and I figured they were just propping each other up, but now, when I look back on it, I -- I'm not so sure.

Ryan: Make yourself at home, Zach.

Zach: Ah, who drinks white wine anymore? It's good. It really is. Um, what's missing? Music. Why don't you have music? Because you don't have electricity, but you do have candles. Nice.

Kendall: Ok, so you think this whole thing is choreographed?

Zach: Sure, it's a nice touch.

Kendall: My shirt was soaked.

Zach: The storm was a nice touch.

Kendall: Oh, did -- did I plan that too?

Zach: Ryan can do anything. Come on. He led the path, and you followed his lead.

Ryan: And if you hadn't walked in when you did, there's be groping and panting. That's what you think, right Zach?

Zach: I think you both want the same thing.

Kendall: Which is?

Zach: To break me.

Angie: Oh, Brot, listen, there's a patient in 413. She's bulldozing through her room. I need you to try to clear away any broken glass, and after that, get out with your life.

Brot: Oh, trust me. I've handled worse.

Angie: Yeah, but we need you here, so I don't want you taking any unnecessary risk.

Brot: Ok, all right.

Jesse: Hey, sweetheart.

Angie: Oh, hey.

Jesse: Hey.

Angie: Is it already time for our warm, cozy dining experience?

Jesse: Looks like we're going to have to put that on hold again. Just got a 911 call from the Chandler house.

Angie: What now?

Jesse: The little kid, J.R.'s boy? Got into the Scotch.

Angie: What?

Jesse: He's ok now.

Angie: What -- what happened? Who was supposed to be watching him?

Jesse: That's what I got to go find out now. So, rain check?

Angie: Yeah, yeah, we can postpone. I need to stick around for Reese. She's completely unraveling.

Brot: Good thing you don't see this mess.

Reese: They, uh -- prepped you for me?

Brot: Prep? Orderlies don't get much of a prep.

Reese: Well, you're wasting your time.

Brot: Why? Working for minimum wage?

Reese: Come on. I don't believe that you're an orderly.

Brot: Damn! How did you know me as CIA?

Reese: Come on, you're the -- you're the staff shrink on duty.

Brot: Whatever you say.

Reese: I got nothing to say to you.

Brot: Ah, that's interesting. For someone that doesn't have much to say, you're definitely not being quiet.

Reese: You know all those items you were working so hard to clean up over there? Um -- I'm just going to knock them all over again.

Brot: Wait, wait, wait, no, stop, wait, wait. There's a piece of sharp glass right there, ok?

Reese: You know what? I don't really -- I don't care. And to cut myself? Well, I don't care, because you know what? My eyes, they're killing me. It's like somebody is -- is stabbing me with shrimp forks.

Brot: Well, this IV will fix that if you just left it alone. Now, calm down.

Reese: We're going down. Just --

Brot: I know this from my own personal experience with pain.

Reese: Oh, really? What do you have? Back problems? You skinned your knee?

Brot: Yeah, I've skinned my knee on a shrimp fork. Got a lot of paper cuts, too. I've also had my face and the rest of my body burned.

J.R.: Don't you ever get tired of expecting me to fail?

Adam: You never tire of failing.

J.R.: I poured that Scotch as a symbolic gesture. I realized that it was reckless. I never expected Little Adam -- it doesn't mean that I'm not a decent parent.

Adam: Krystal's 911 call and the EMTs made tonight's events -- put them on the public record and put unlimited power in the hands of David Hayward.

David: J.R. is an incompetent parent. He always has been. He always will be. Hasn't he proven that tonight?

Krystal: And then, Adam had the gall to accuse me of setting J.R. up.

David: Are you kidding me? And who is protecting our grandson? Not his father, not Adam, not the maids. That little boy is raising himself, mirroring his father, molding himself to fit the Chandler dysfunction. We can't let that happen, Krystal. You know we can't. If we want that boy to be safe, we have to file for custody of Little A.

Krystal: So, in other words, to hell with all your promises. This is why you married me, to get custody of Little A.

David: I married you because I love you. Don't you know by now how much I love you?

Adam: If I know David Hayward, he has a lawyer on retainer. Heh, Krystal will be his star witness, and we have to tear her to shreds.

David: Think of it, Krystal. The two of us, raising Babe's little boy the way we wish we'd been able to raise her, beautiful home, the perfect full-time mom.

Adam: She tried to palm off Tad's spawn as a Chandler. Then she neglected that little girl, put up a flagrant affair, and then traded her little girl for Hayward's bed.

J.R.: You mean Jenny, who you kidnapped and tried to sell?

Krystal: I know how much J.R. loves Little Adam.

David: Even sober, he's criminally negligent. Imagine -- imagine how tonight could have ended. We could be in the morgue right now --

Krystal: No, stop it, stop it!

David: Identifying Babe's little boy.

Krystal: Stop it, stop.

David: Do you want to hear in vivid detail what alcohol does to the body of a little boy?

Krystal: No, I do not.

David: Krystal, you can't keep burying your head in the sand here. Our grandson's life is in our hands.

Adam: Hayward paid Amanda to sabotage you. That should help our case.

J.R.: Amanda's off limits.

Adam: Whose side are you on?

David: They might as well have left Little A in a room by himself with a loaded gun.

Adam: If you're too soft to get down and dirty, then I'll do the dirty work of holding on to your son.

Reese: So, um -- what happened to you?

Brot: I was injured in combat.

Reese: Yeah? You sound ok to me.

[Taylor listens by the door]

Brot: Yeah, but it didn't happen overnight. At first, it was a horror show, freaked big time. I didn't want to be the monster in the mirror, so I chose not to exist.

Reese: Oh, really? How did you do that?

Brot: Well, in my case, I figured it would be best if I let them notify my loved ones of my honorable death in combat. You know, I thought, why go back to the people who love you when all you can offer them is rage?

Reese: Well, nobody is lining up to love me right now, and if they did, they would only be pitying me, and that's the last thing I need right now.

Brot: I understand that because that's exactly how I felt, and if they turn away, that's even more a kick in the head, right? Why risk it? That's the same question I asked myself.

Reese: Well, I'm starting to believe you might be for real.

Brot: Give me your hand.

Reese: No.

Brot: You want to know if this is for sure, right? Let -- let me show you. Trust me. It's ok. It's ok

[Brot lets Reese feel his face]

Reese: I'm so sorry.

Brot: It's ok.

Reese: Did you, um -- did you ever go back to the people who love you?

Brot: Yeah. But I lost a lot of valuable time.

Reese: You can, um, get used to being lonely, though, can't you?

Brot: My friend, you can get used to any damn thing, losing your face, losing your sight, but loneliness? That's a choice. You can always opt out of that.

Reese: Yeah, maybe you. Not me.

Brot: It will get better. Trust me.

Reese: For me?

Brot: It's a tough road.

Reese: I'm a tough lady.

Brot: Nobody's that tough.

Reese: You're wrong.

Brot: I hope you find out. And I hope it doesn't take you as long as it took me. Now, how about let's get you back into bed? Ok?

Reese: Ok.

Brot: Come on.

Kendall: So I'm an evil bitch who lives to torture all the people I'm supposed to love.

Zach: Supposed to love? What the hell does that mean, "Supposed to love"?

Kendall: Zach, what do you want?

Zach: I want my life back, my life with you, and my kids. I want it the way it was before.

Kendall: Well, it's a little late for you to be asking for that.

Zach: It is? I turned my back on my daughter. I pushed the woman you wanted gone so hard, she's blind, probably will be blind for the rest of her life.

Kendall: Ok, all right, I get it. All right, Reese is blind because of me. I -- I started this whole thing. I started a chain reaction.

Zach: I started the whole thing. I started the chain reaction, not you. It was me! I told you that. How many more times I have to tell you that? It was me, my betrayal, my fault.

Kendall: Ok, but that doesn't help. It doesn't.

Zach: What will help? What do you want? What else do I have to sacrifice for you, Kendall?

Ryan: I think you should leave, Zach.

Kendall: Zach, there is a little girl hanging over our heads. She will never, ever go away. How in the hell can you grieve for your faraway daughter and still want to be with me?

Zach: I made a choice.

Kendall: Yeah, but clearly, you're heartbroken.

Zach: I'm working through it.

Kendall: Well, I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear about it. You did exactly what you wanted to do, ok? So live with it. I have to.

Zach: Now, when you decide what you want from me, you let me know. All right?

[Ryan slams the door shut after Zach]

Ryan: That's amazing to me. In his world, nobody else counts but him.

Kendall: You are dead wrong.

Adam: Ah, Chief.

Jesse: Following up on a 911 call?

Adam: Oh, that -- that was nothing. It was a false alarm.

Jesse: Really? The report says that your grandson ingested alcohol, paramedics rushed to the scene, gave him emergency treatment. Which of these claims is false?

Krystal: What's wrong now?

J.R.: Little Adam is sleeping peacefully. He's going to be as good as new in the morning. Dr. Collins gave him a thorough exam. I just came by to set your mind at ease.

Adam: Krystal was here visiting her grandchild alone. The next thing we knew, the child was reeking of alcohol, and she was screeching into the phone.

Jesse: So you're saying Krystal left the boy unattended.

Adam: Well, unfortunately, Krystal's actions were a little more sinister than that.

J.R.: I want to apologize for my father. He was frantic.

Krystal: Yeah, so was I.

J.R.: You know as well as I do my father can get abusive when he gets scared.

David: Well, that's a wonderful quality in a grandfather, huh? Perfect touch for a sensitive little boy.

Adam: Krystal set us up for child neglect, hoping that the Haywards would get a shot at custody of Little Adam.

Jesse: Those are pretty serious charges. Why didn't you file a police report?

Adam: Because J.R. feels pity for the woman, and so do I, to a certain extent. She lost Babe, and now she's lost custody of Jenny. She's suffering.

Jesse: Look at you, Adam Chandler, mister compassionate.

David: Children emulate their parents. You're a drunk.

J.R.: Recovering.

David: Depending on the hour. You can barely take care of yourself, J.R. How the hell are you going to raise a little boy?

Adam: Little Adam is asleep right now, but he's perfectly all right. If you don't believe me, you can check the paramedics' report or call Dr. Collins, who gave him a thorough examination.

Jesse: Adam, I'm going to have to come back with the Social Services rep.

Adam: Is that necessary?

Jesse: I'm afraid it's protocol.

Adam: Um, interpreted, red tape. Well, you must be very tired by this, too. You look a little tired. You know, I have a wonderful little house in Tortolla, right on the edge of the sea. You and your family could go there --

Jesse: You trying to bribe me?

[Adam scoffs]

Jesse: Don't do that. Don't do that.

Adam: No, no.

Jesse: Make sure J.R. doesn't leave town.

Adam: Ok, ok.

J.R.: You've raised a child. You know accidents happen. The ER is always packed with parents and their children. I mean, how many times was Babe at some clinic when she was a little girl?

David: Oh, come on. Give me a break. You know something? You're really good at touching Krystal's heart. Nice play, but it's not going to fly this time. Social Services has been notified. My lawyer's en route to a judge right now. We'll stop by later to take custody of Little A.

Kendall: My husband is the most generous man I have ever known.

Ryan: Yeah, generous with his sperm, maybe.

Kendall: Ryan, part of the reason that Zach donated was -- was to make up for all the horrible things his brother did. Remember, Bianca's first child was conceived in rape, and Zach felt like he had to compensate for that somehow. He's a rock for the people that he cares about. There's nothing he wouldn't do to help them. I used to love him for that.

Ryan: You used to love him for that? What about now?

Kendall: Thanks. Well, now, he -- he cares about too many people, Bianca, Gabriele, Reese. I've never been very good at sharing, as you know, and I don't think I ever will be. I want Zach to belong to me and the boys. That's it. I want the Zach exclusive I used to have.

Ryan: So then, why don't you explain this to him?

Erica: Well, that's an excellent question. Kendall, what are you doing here, pouring your heart out to Ryan instead of to the husband who loves you more than life?

Reese: You're back. Good, I -- I, um -- I owe you an apology, Brot. I mean, I never even asked where you were injured. Was it Iraq or Afghanistan? I mean, not that it's any of my business. It's -- it's just that I, um, I know I'm not the only person who has ever been hurt in this world, and, um, in fact, I have hurt a lot of other people recently, the love of my life, our family, our friends, and I just feel like if I reached out to them now it would be manipulative. You know, I'd be using my accident as a way to make them feel guilty, and they just don't deserve that, you know? Huh, and so now, here I am, and I don't know. There's just no one left.

Zach: Well, there's me.

Reese: Why are you here? Why -- where is Brot?

Zach: I don't know, but it sounds like talking to him helped you.

Reese: God, you let me go on and on. You know what? Zach, my feelings, they are none of your business.

Zach: Ok, just relax. Put your head under. Deep breath.

Reese: Come on, don't tell me -- deep breath? What is with the deep breaths? If somebody tells me one more time to -- to take a deep breath, I am going to go running and screaming up and down the halls.

Zach: Ok, here's an idea. Don't take a deep breath. How about that?

Reese: This isn't going to work.

Kendall: Thanks for the loaner.

Ryan: Anything else that I can do?

Erica: Uh, you can give her a moment alone with her mother. So what are you thinking? Here, alone with Ryan, candlelight, in Ryan's shirt. What's wrong with you?

Kendall: Mom, please. Please don't start now, ok? It was -- it was perfectly innocent. My -- my shirt got soaked. I don't understand why -- why does everyone think I'm -- I'm having some affair with Ryan?

Erica: I don't know. You in his shirt, candles burning. Not exactly a setup for gin rummy. I repeat, what is wrong with you, Kendall?

Kendall: Why does there have to be something wrong with me?

Erica: You are not yourself. You haven't been, ok, ever since the coma.

Kendall: Well, I've had a bit to absorb, haven't I?

Erica: I think what you have had is a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family. I mean, Zach would give you the moon if you asked him for it. Yes, he's made mistakes, but he has never wavered for one moment in his love for you. Not many women are cherished like that, and yet, lately, you act like, I mean, you don't even seem to be participating. Zach can't fix his marriage all by himself. Why don't you just give him a hand?

Kendall: You're right. You are absolutely right.

[Kendall sighs]

Kendall: I'm leaving. Um, just tell Ryan --

Erica: Go, go. I will tell Ryan.

Kendall: Ok.

Erica: Ok. Go ahead.

Ryan: Mission accomplished? Kendall's gone.

Erica: Well, Ryan, I mean, certainly, you didn't expect Kendall to stay the night?

Ryan: My fiancée just drowned in an icy river, and you think that I'm chasing after Kendall?

Erica: Look, Ryan, I -- I don't really know what to think. What I know is that you're in a very vulnerable place right now.

Ryan: Kendall and I loved Greenlee very much. That's why she was here, and then, I know that you didn't share in that affection for Greenlee. I mean, really, she was more of a -- more of a nuisance to you than anything else, and you just tried to be nice to her for Jack's sake, right?

Erica: Ok, but that doesn't mean that --

Ryan: You couldn't even give her one moment of happiness. It was tough for you, wasn't it? I mean, even her shower. You ruined her wedding shower by inviting her mother.

Erica: Oh, come on, Ryan. Let's -- let's not go there.

Ryan: You tried to take her company from her, tried to kick her out. I mean, you're probably celebrating right now, aren't you?

Erica: Ryan, don't make this ugly. Actually, Greenlee and I made peace with everything. You completely misunderstand me here.

Ryan: No, I -- I think I understand you just fine.

Erica: Ryan, I thought we were friends?

Ryan: We were. Not now. I'd like you to go.

Erica: Ryan.

Ryan: Please. I want you to go.

Taylor: You were brilliant with that girl.

Brot: Brilliant? Brilliant is brain surgery. All I did was just talk to the girl. That's all.

Taylor: You didn't just talk to her. You did what the doctors and nurses couldn't do. I saw her room. You got her to listen and calm down.

Brot: No, I think her meds were kicking in.

Taylor: You're always so modest.

Brot: And you're so easily wowed, always.

Taylor: People can sense that you're for real, you know? They know that you've been to hell and back, even though they can't see you. So the insight that you give them, they take.

Reese: You know what? I hate this place. I'm out of here.

Erica: Hello, partner.

Adam: Hello, I, uh, I didn't invite you here for a Fusion strategy session tonight.

Erica: Are you not feeling well?

Adam: David Hayward has a court order to take Little Adam out of this house.

Erica: Well, that's impossible. I mean, he can't do that.

Adam: Well, one would think so, but J.R. and I kind of paved the way. We should have just wrapped him up as a gift, I guess, and sent him to Wildwind, post-paid, but, uh, we may never come back from this one.

Erica: Well, that's ridiculous. You're Adam Chandler. You can come back from anything.

Reese: Help me find my clothes.

Zach: I'll go find Brot.

Reese: No, I don't want Brot, ok? He's -- he's a terrific guy, but he's not going to help me get out of here, and I'm guessing you aren't either, so you know what? I will handle this. I'll handle it all on my own.

Zach: Hey, hey, hey. You're not going anywhere yet.

J.R.: Where's my father?

Erica: He's throwing some things into a bag.

J.R.: What things? What bag?

Erica: We're taking a little trip, maybe someplace foreign.

J.R.: Ah, so my father's abandoning a sinking ship.

Adam: No Chandler ships will be sinking this night.

J.R.: Didn't you hear me on the phone, or have you totally flipped into denial?

Erica: Your father is very smart, and his business partner is even smarter.

J.R.: Do you know what's about to happen?

Erica: Absolutely. Your father is taking his grandson on a little vacation, and I've decided to go along.

Adam: If you took off with your son, you'd be in defiance of the court order that Jesse warned me about tonight.

Erica: But Jesse didn't warn Adam about going anywhere, so we looked out the window, we saw the slush, and we thought, wouldn't it be lovely to get away for a while?

Adam: I'm very impulsive. So is my beautiful friend here.

J.R.: How long will you be gone?

Erica: Just till we get over this legal glitch.

Little Adam: Daddy.

Erica: Hi.

J.R.: Hey.

Little Adam: Are you coming with us?

J.R.: Oh, I'd love to, but I have to work.

Little Adam: I'll get you a present.

[J.R. laughs and hugs his son]

Adam: We all will.

Erica: Sweetheart, I'm afraid we have to hurry up, honey. The car's waiting. J.R., you're doing the right thing, and I promise you. Everything is going to work out all right.

[Doorbell]

J.R.: Chief, come on in.

Jesse: J.R. Chandler, this is Alice McNeal from Child Protective Services. Ms. McNeal, this is J.R. Chandler.

J.R.: Ms. McNeal.

Ms. McNeal: Hello.

Jesse: I'm really sorry about this J.R., but she has a court order to take your son into protective custody.

J.R.: I see. I'm afraid that's not possible.

Jesse: Why is that?

J.R.: My son's out of the country.

David: What are you talking about? What do you mean there is nothing you can do? Send someone up there to intercept the damn plane. They have to file a flight plan, don't they? Thank you, thank you, thank you for absolutely nothing!

Krystal: What? What? Did J.R. take Little Adam?

David: No, no, he's lounging back at the mansion. Adam took our grandson.

Krystal: I wish I could say I'm surprised, but that is typical Adam.

David: "Typical Adam's" a son of a bitch. It's about time I took him down for good.

[Doorbell]

Jack: Thank you for coming today. Listen, we have some, uh, business we need to take care of.

Ryan: Uh, you and I don't have any business, Jack.

Jack: Actually, Ryan, we do, because Greenlee left a will.

Ryan: Oh, well, whatever she left me, you could just give it away, ok? How about that?

Jack: Are you sure you want to give Erica a chance to steal Greenlee's baby?

Ryan: Greenlee's baby? What are you talk --

Jack: Fusion. Greenlee left you her shares. She wanted to leave them to Kendall, but when Kendall fell into that coma, she changed her will.

Ryan: Yeah, but Kendall's better now.

Jack: Yes, thank God, but at the time, that looked less than likely, so --

Ryan: So, wait a minute. I would be Kendall's partner?

Jack: Yes, if you would be interested in running a cosmetics firm.

Ryan: I could be interested.
