[J.R. punches Jake in the jaw]

Jake: Was that necessary?

J.R.: Don't ever talk to her like that, ever.

Jake: Hmm.

J.R.: You ok?

Amanda: Uh, yeah, I'm fine.

Taylor: It's still so strange to hear your voice.

Brot: Does it sound the same?

Taylor: Yes, exactly the same.

Brot: Good, at least one thing hasn't changed.

Taylor: I want to see you.

Brot: No.

Taylor: I have so many questions, Brot.

Brot: Then just ask.

Taylor: No. That -- that's not how I want to do it. I want to look into your eyes. I want to talk to you. Is that so hard to understand? Brot, please.

Brot: Have you seen Jake lately?

Taylor: That is not -- this is about you and me, about what happened to you and -- and how we go forward from here. Please, you're -- you're practically around the corner. Why don't you just come to my room?

[Dial tone]

Taylor: Hello?

Zach: They told me she was awake. So, I thought I was going to see my wife's beautiful smile and now there's nothing.

Nurse: You can't give up hope.

Zach: Right. There's always a miracle.

Nurse: I see them every day.

Zach: Of course, Rosie, just none in here.

Reese: You call my parents, you invited them to Gabrielle's christening, why? Why would you do that?

Bianca: Because they're your parents. They should be in your life.

Reese: They rejected me.

Bianca: Until now. Your father came to visit you. Isn't that a start?

Reese: A start to what? Bianca, they are never going to be in my life. We are never going to be one big happy family. Accept it, I have.

Ryan: Thank you for staying. Bedtime is always the hardest. That's when Emma misses her mom the most.

Greenlee: Even though you read a mean "Cinderella"?

Ryan: Yeah, let's face it, my fairy godmother could use a little bit of work.

Greenlee: Emma will be ok.

Ryan: And I'll make sure of that. Thanks, again.

[Greenlee gives Ryan a big hug]

Ryan: See you.

Greenlee: Bye.

Ryan: Bye.

Randi: So, how's your mom doing?

Natalia: Oh, she's doing much better.

Randi: Good. I'm happy for you guys.

Natalia: Thank you. So, what's been up with you? How you been?

Randi: I'm good. We just finished the, uh, Valentine's Day campaign for Fusion.

Natalia: That's right, your big debut.

Randi: Yeah.

Natalia: How did it go? Were you nervous?

Randi: Uh-huh, but I brought Frankie along, so that helped a lot.

Natalia: Oh, that's sweet. How are things between you guys?

Randi: What do you mean?

Natalia: Well, I mean, you guys are dating, obviously. You live in the same apartment.

Randi: Right.

Natalia: And you don't sleep in the same room? I mean, what's going on with that? Are you, like, waiting?

Randi: I'm not a virgin, if that's what you're asking.

Natalia: Is Frankie?

Randi: No.

[Randi laughs]

[Natalia chuckles]

Randi: No, he wants to, a lot, and so do I. I don't know, I'm a nut case, I guess.

Natalia: Oh, don't beat yourself up over it. I mean, if that's what works for you two then more power to you.

Randi: Yeah, see, that's the thing. I feel like if something doesn't change, Frankie just might just give up on me.

Frankie: Peeka-boo. You up for a visitor?

Taylor: You mean in person? Wow, what a concept. Sorry, it's just these phone calls with Brot -- you know I'm so -- obviously so grateful that he's alive. After a year of praying for something like this, are you kidding? But now that he's here? I would like to actually see him in person.

Frankie: Yeah, but you got to see it from Brot's perspective.

Taylor: I am. I am, that's all I'm doing. You -- his face, his burns, I don't see that. It doesn't bother me, but it bothers him, and because it bothers him so much, it's like this thing that sits there right in the middle of us. Has he -- has he talked to you about the explosion?

Frankie: Some. But there's not much to talk about, Taylor. We all were there.

Taylor: Yeah, but we didn't get hurt, not like that, and I just know if -- if we don't go back there and figure it out, we're not going to be able to move forward. I mean, what was that like for him? What was he thinking? Can you even describe that kind of pain? I know that I will never fully be able to understand that, but I do have to try.

Frankie: I don't. Why do you?

Taylor: Because, Frankie, it could have been us.

Reese: I understand. Your intentions were good.

Bianca: Like yours were? You lied to me, too, Reese, when you told me that your parents were still in your life, that you were still talking to them, that they're just busy --

Reese: They were busy. They were busy hating me and my choices.

Bianca: Hey, families go through tough times. It happens. But you work through it eventually. That's why I called your parents, because I thought that if I told them about the christening --

Reese: No, it wasn't just the christening, Bianca. It's not like you just spilled the beans about some little ceremony. You told them I have a daughter. There's a huge decision that you took away from me.

Bianca: I know. But I know that you love your parents, and I know that you wouldn't have made the first move.

Reese: No, so you did.

Bianca: Well, I -- I just extended an olive branch --

Reese: But I didn't do anything wrong. What did I do? What did I do? I -- I -- I fell in love. I -- I had a child. Well, shame on me.

Bianca: No, that's -- that's not what I'm saying.

Reese: No, but you didn't have to, because they already did. You were not there when I told my parents, when I came out. You should have seen the look on my mother's face. It was complete and utter horror.

Bianca: Ok. But your father came here. Your father wanted to see you. He wanted to meet your daughter.

Reese: Yeah, and you're forgetting someone.

Bianca: Yeah, he's not ready to meet me yet. I'm ok with that.

Reese: I'm not. I am absolutely not, because you are the love of my life. You are the mother of my child, and if my parents can't accept that, I'm sorry, I can't accept them.

Amanda: This doesn't make you uncomfortable?

J.R.: Do I want a glass of wine? Hell, yeah.

Amanda: Well, then why don't you? Seriously, I mean, after what happened to Babe, no one would blame you. I know I wouldn't.

J.R.: Even though she's not here anymore, I can still hear her reminding me why I fought so hard to stay clean.

Amanda: Well, you are definitely stronger than me. If my husband died, this would definitely be my first step.

J.R.: Yeah, well, not too long ago, it would have mine, too.

Amanda: So, you think if she knew it make you feel better, even just for a second, that she would actually be disappointed in you?

J.R.: Yeah, I do.

Amanda: I don't. I think she loved you enough to understand.

Greenlee: Hey, what happened to your face? You got a toothache or something?

Jake: No, I -- J.R. punched me.

Greenlee: Shut up.

Jake: No, you shut up.

Greenlee: You were owned by J.R.?

Jake: Look -- owned? Who -- that never came across my lips, those words, "owned." Ah.

Greenlee: You're wasted.

Jake: No, I'm not. I'm just -- my defenses are a little bit down. I'm usually lightening quick. That's how he got near me.

Greenlee: Oh.

Jake: Otherwise -- otherwise --

Greenlee: So, what -- what -- what'd you do?

Jake: Uh, nothing. I'm -- I didn't do anything.

Greenlee: Well, he hit you for a reason.

Jake: No, no.

Greenlee: Don't even tell me you're jealous. I thought you were over Amanda.

Jake: So over it.

Greenlee: Well, then, what happened?

Jake: Called her a hooker.

Greenlee: Nice, Martin.

Jake: I know, I know. It's terrible, terrible -- terrible long story.

Greenlee: Beginning with Taylor?

[Jake sighs]

Jake: And you're here because -- because of Ryan, right?

Greenlee: Want to drown our sorrows?

Jake: Yes, that's a very good -- Rusty?

Frankie: It could have been one of us in the explosion but it wasn't. What Brot chooses to share or how much, that's not your decision, L.T.

Taylor: I know, you're right. How are you dealing with all this?

Frankie: Me?

[Frankie scoffs]

Frankie: Come on, I'm not the one who was engaged to the guy.

Taylor: You know what I mean. Seeing him, that doesn't bring it all back for you?

Frankie: It does. More importantly, it makes me think about my redeployment. I'm going back, L.T., soon. This time it's real.

Taylor: Real as it gets. You nervous?

Frankie: Not about doing my job. It's about the people I have to leave behind.

Taylor: How is Randi dealing with all this?

Frankie: We haven't talked about it lately.

Taylor: Well, I think you're lucky to have her. I mean, I know saying goodbye sucks, but she'll make you fight that much harder to get home.

Natalia: So, you love him, and he loves you -- not really seeing the problem here.

Randi: Yeah, that's because there really isn't a problem here. It's all in my head, and I know it. But it's just like -- I don't know, the minute we go and start, an alarm goes off and, I don't know, I just freak out.

Natalia: Do you have any idea why?

Randi: Uh-uh. I thought I did. When we first got together, I had some issues -- my past, whatever -- and I just wanted to wait till we really trusted each other, you know, before --

Natalia: You took it to the next level?

Randi: Right. But now, I really do trust Frankie, I mean, more than I've ever trusted anyone else. Still, something just keeps me from going there with him.

Natalia: You're thinking too hard about it, hon. You just got to close your eyes and let it go.

Randi: Yeah, because that doesn't sound scary at all.

Natalia: He's worth it, isn't he? I've seen the way Frankie looks at you.

Randi: I know and he's been so kind, and he's been so patient. I just -- I really want him to know how much I care about him.

Natalia: Then show him.

Bianca: They're your parents, the only ones you get. I almost lost my mother and my sister. We don't know what's going to happen with her. If there were ever a time to reach out to your family --

Reese: Look, I can't, I can't. All right? I'm sorry.

Bianca: Ok, then I'll do it for you.

Reese: What?

Bianca: Where's your father staying?

Reese: The Valley Inn and there's no way that you're --

Bianca: Ok, I'll go see him.

Reese: No -- he is my father, and I will deal with it.

Bianca: Letting him just walk out of your life? Will you at least just think about it? I --

Reese: Wait a minute, wait, wait, hey, where are you going?

Bianca: I'm going to see my sister. I won't be long.

Zach: What did I miss?

Reese: Nothing.

Reese's father: Uh, may I help you?

Bianca: Uh, yeah, I'm -- I'm Bianca Montgomery, your -- your daughter's fiancée.

Reese's Father: Come in. What can I do for you?

Bianca: Bianca.

Reese's Father: Did Reese send you?

Bianca: No, no, no, she -- she doesn't know that I'm here. I just wanted to see you -- or actually, I really just wanted you to see me. I love your daughter, Mr. Williams, and --

Mr. Williams: My wife and I have made it clear how we feel about what Reese is doing.

Bianca: Really?

Mr. Williams: Yeah.

Bianca: Because if you were so sure about how you felt, then why are you here?

[Mr. Williams sighs]

Bianca: I'm not trying to change anybody's beliefs, and I'm not trying to force anything on you. I really just thought you should meet me.

Mr. Williams: Well, appreciate your coming by.

Bianca: She's beautiful, isn't she?

Mr. Williams: I'm sorry?

Bianca: Gabrielle, your granddaughter.

Mr. Williams: She's an amazing little girl.

Bianca: Yeah, you should know her. She should know you, and I'd like to know you and your wife.

Mr. Williams: I am afraid that is not going to be possible.

Bianca: Why not?

Mr. Williams: Our daughter was raised according to a certain set of beliefs that don't include --

Bianca: Right, I don't know, falling in love? Having a family? Most parents would be thrilled for their kids to be that lucky.

Mr. Williams: I care a great deal for my daughter.

Bianca: I can tell, because you're here, but you're wife, I guess --

Mr. Williams: Is no monster, despite what Reese may have told you.

Bianca: You -- you really don't get it, do you? You and your wife broke your daughter's heart.

Mr. Williams: Reese broke ours first when she ended the engagement. It was -- you have no idea. It was completely --

Bianca: Wait, wait -- Reese's engagement?

Mr. Williams: To Simon. He was Reese's fiancé.

Reese: Bianca told me what happened at the hospital.

Zach: Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous thinking Kendall would wake up, knowing what I know.

Reese: No, there is nothing wrong with hanging on to hope.

Zach: But there is no hope. Hayward made that very clear.

[Zach sighs]

Zach: So what really -- what's going on? Did Bianca say something?

Reese: What, about Kendall? No. No, she still has no idea that Kendall's not going to wake up.

Zach: I'm sorry. I know you don't like lying to her.

Bianca: Reese was engaged before?

Mr. Williams: I take it she didn't tell you. He was an architect. Worked at the same firm. We were thrilled when Reese announced that she and Simon were going to get married. I mean, he seemed like a great guy. She did it with a caveat, that she was never going to have children, but her mother and I hoped she'd change her mind, which, we came to find out, she did.

Bianca: And, uh -- ok, so she was engaged and -- and then what happened?

Mr. Williams: Two weeks before the big day, after countless months of preparation and planning, mostly done by her mother, she called it off, and you can imagine how we felt. It was especially hard on her mother.

Bianca: When she called it off, did she give a reason?

Mr. Williams: No, she didn't tell us about that until later.

Bianca: And that's the last time you saw her.

Mr. Williams: Until today. Look, Bianca, I'm sure, to you, we seem very callous and horribly unfair, but it is Reese who turned her back on us first. At least, that's how it felt. Her mother --

[Mr. Williams sighs]

Mr. Williams: She had to go into therapy. She started taking medication. She's just -- just beginning to act like herself again.

Bianca: She doesn't know you're here.

Mr. Williams: I don't think that she could take it. I think that she's harder on Reese than I would like, but it comes out of very real pain, pain that our daughter caused. So, it is not quite as cut and dry as you make it out to be.

Bianca: One thing is. Either you love your daughter and you accept her for who she is, or you don't.

Jake: This is going on way too long. You should be together.

Greenlee: You know, I think he could use a water.

Jake: Should be together -- I am not drunk. This is just the booze talking. You should be together if you love somebody. I got -- I am going to go home. I can take my --

Greenlee: Get a cab.

Jake: A cab, a cab.

Greenlee: You going to be ok?

Jake: I'm going to be fine, and you're going to be fine. You can have all of that, and I'm good.

Greenlee: Ok.

Jake: You're going to be great.

Greenlee: Yeah, because you're going to take care of me, right?

Jake: And I -- I might do that. I might -- I might -- give him that. I might do that.

Brot: Do you really want to know what happened to me? Because it's brutal, scary, and graphic as hell.

Taylor: I can take it.

Brot: What if I can't?

Frankie: Ah, ladies, I got your oven-fresh, hot, delicious pizza with extra mushrooms and hot peppers, just like you requested. Or more like demanded. Uh, hello? Hello? Randi, are you here?

Randi: I'm in here.

Frankie: Wow. Hmm. Yes.

[Randi chuckles]

Frankie: This is my kind of pizza party.

Randi: We've, um, we've got the apartment all to ourselves tonight.

Frankie: Randi.

Randi: Shh. Don't say anything.

Frankie: You know we don't have to do this.

Randi: I want to. It's time I closed my eyes and let go. Will you let go with me?

[Randi and Frankie kiss]

Amanda: No, I'm all set. Thanks. What?

J.R.: Weren't you the girl who was drowning herself in a bottle of champagne just recently?

Amanda: Well, I finally got a handle on all that. Part of getting my act together, I guess.

J.R.: I'm glad.

Amanda: See? Half a bottle left. Baby steps. Going out and not getting bombed, step one.

J.R.: Mission accomplished.

[Amanda chuckles]

J.R.: What's step two?

Amanda: I don't know yet. When I figure it out, I'll let you know.

[Doorbell rings]

Ryan: Jake, Jake, what are you doing?

Jake: I come to visit an old friend.

Ryan: No, no, not good. The doorbell like that. My daughter's sleeping upstairs.

Jake: How's my little favorite, my favorite little patient? She --

Ryan: Sleeping, yes.

Jake: I'm going to come in.

Ryan: What are you doing, Jake? You'll wake up my daughter. I'm going to kill you.

Jake: So hostile -- hostile.

Ryan: What is going on with you?

Jake: Nothing. People should be together. Love conquers all. You should be with the person you want to be with, right? Are there -- are there any women here?

Ryan: No, there's no women here.

Jake: Greenlee, Greenlee -- that's your person.

Ryan: Greenlee's my person?

Jake: You're denying it.

Ryan: I'm not denying anything. I'm trying to figure out what you're talking about.

Jake: She's at -- she's at ConFusion. She is alone, and she thinks that her life sucks, but it doesn't have to suck, because you could go down there and be with her -- with your person.

Brot: At first the heat was so intense. I remember Frankie was working on me, trying to calm me down, and keeping me from thrashing around. His mouth was moving, but I couldn't hear anything. Maybe it was because my ears were ringing. Maybe that part of my brain just shut down to deal with the intense pain. Or maybe I was just screaming too loud to hear anything else. The truth is, I didn't need to hear anything to know how bad it was. The look in Hub's eyes told me more than I wanted to know, and this is more than you want to know.

Taylor: Keep going.

Brot: Frankie earned that Silver Star. I remember, he held me in his arms as if I was his firstborn, and his mouth was still moving, and I still couldn't hear anything. And the smell -- that smell, it was me, burning alive. And I can -- I can feel the life being sucked right out of me, and that's when my mind just left, and I saw my friends, our unit, my mom. And you. That's when I heard something.

[Brot chuckles]

Taylor: What?

Brot: Your voice over the radio. You were calling for a MedEvac to get me out of there. But all I could really hear was your sweet voice telling me to hang on. So I did. Truth is, your voice, your love -- that's what kept me alive that day.

[Door opens, closes]

Bianca: Where's Reese?

Zach: She's upstairs, reading to Miranda. Something happen?

Bianca: You guys are close, right?

Zach: I -- I don't know about close.

Bianca: No, I mean, I mean, I mean you talk about things, you -- personal things, like Kendall and her parents, and --

Zach: Yeah -- no, we talk, sure.

Bianca: Ok. Did she ever tell you that she was engaged before, to a man?

Zach: Reese? No, I had no idea.

Bianca: Well, at least I'm not the only one. Why -- why would she hide that from me?

Zach: Uh, I don't know. Sometimes people don't tell people everything.

Bianca: I, well, I guess, but this is a pretty big deal. I mean, if she could keep something like this a secret, then what else isn't she telling me?

Zach: Sometimes people keep things from people to protect them so they don't get hurt.

Bianca: Well, it's too late for that.

Reese: What's going on?

Bianca: I went to see your dad. I know, I know, I wasn't supposed to. I went anyway, and, um -- how could you not tell me? How could you not tell me that you were engaged before, to a man?

Frankie: I love you so much. And I hadn't realized how much until this moment.

Randi: I love you, too.

Frankie: You're safe with me.

Randi: Always.

Brot: Weeks later, I woke up in the hospital, and you would think that the pain would be less. But it wasn't. They had to bathe me, and they literally had to scrub my body from head to toe, and that alone was just more painful than when my skin was actually on fire.

Taylor: Brot.

Brot: I would -- I would plead with them to stop and -- because I just wanted to know, why was it hurting so much? What was left of me?

Taylor: Well, did anybody -- did the doctors or nurses explain to you what was going on?

Brot: All they would say is, "You'll be all right." Or, "It's way too soon to say more." Finally, I couldn't take it anymore, and I convinced one of my nurses to just bring a mirror, and let me see. He set it up, and the hardest thing I ever had to do was just lift my eyes. I don't remember how long I stared, but I think it was maybe long enough just so the shock wore off, and immediately I pushed the damn mirror away, and I was angry at everything, at everyone, because that face -- it wasn't me. That person -- it wasn't me.

Taylor: But, listen to me. We don't -- we don't care about your face. We don't care what you look like. We just care about you.

Brot: That's the point, Taylor. The person looking back in that mirror -- he was a complete stranger. I mean, if I wasn't able to find myself, how the hell would I expect someone else to? That's when I just wished I had a gun, so I could forget all of this ever happened.

Taylor: Don't say that.

Brot: They didn't let a gun anywhere near my ward. Because they knew, they knew exactly what I was thinking.

Amanda: Thank you for meeting me. It was good to have dinner with someone.

J.R.: Of course, anytime. Can I give you a ride back to your yacht?

Amanda: No, actually, I have my car here. But thank you. Will you walk me out?

J.R.: You know what? I'm going to stick around. The thought of going back to that bedroom is --

Amanda: I can stay, if you want me to hang out.

J.R.: No, no, I'm fine. Just do me a favor, ok? Don't listen to Jake Martin anymore. You're way too good for him.

Amanda: You really mean that? No, actually, don't answer that. I'm just going to take that with me. Good night, J.R.

J.R.: Good night.

[J.R. pours himself a drink out of the bottle Amanda left, but just smells the wine]

Zach: I'm going to go check on the kids.

Reese: I cannot believe that you went to go see my father after I specifically asked you not to.

Bianca: I -- I was going to see Kendall, but then I got in my car, and I just couldn't let it go like this. I had to see him.

Reese: Why?

Bianca: I did it for you.

Reese: I didn't ask you to.

Bianca: It was so humiliating, learning about Simon from your father.

Reese: My father had no place --

Bianca: He thought I knew. He thought I knew. Of course, why wouldn't I? It's kind of a big thing to keep secret, don't you think?

Reese: I'm sorry. Look, I mean, what else do you want me to say? I'm sorry.

Bianca: Did you sleep with him?

Reese: Bianca, he was my fiancé.

Bianca: Did you sleep with him?

Reese: Of course, I did.

[Frankie and Randi make love]

[Just as J.R. puts the glass to his lips and raises it, Amanda walks in]

Amanda: My car won't start. You think I can cash in on that ride?

J.R.: Definitely.

Taylor: You weren't supposed to die. There's a reason that you survived that explosion.

Brot: Maybe, but it sure in hell wasn't to go back to my old life. I had to start over. Brot Monroe -- he was put to rest at some funeral.

Taylor: I think -- I think that Sergeant Brot Monroe is standing right here.

Brot: I told you -- I can't go back.

Taylor: But how do you know if you don't even try?

Reese: I was living a complete lie, Bianca. I couldn't breathe, and the closer it got, I felt like I was suffocating, and so I ran. I ran. I ran from Simon, I -- I ran from my parents, my eight-piece wedding band -- from all of it. And I was terrified. And then I met you. And all of a sudden it was like I was walking around with a human oxygen tank. And I felt alive again, and free. Because for the first time in my life, things weren't so hard, and they were just effortless.

Bianca: Why didn't you just tell me?

Reese: Because I was ashamed. I was ashamed. Here you were -- you were out, and you were proud, and I wanted to be like that.

Bianca: Yeah, I wasn't always like that.

Reese: I know that. But you were there, and I wanted to be, too. And I know -- I know how you have been hurt before by women who were confused about their sexual orientation. I didn't want you to doubt me. I didn't want you to doubt us. And I am sorry. I am so sorry that I didn't tell you about Simon, but I swear to you, I don't even think about that part of my life anymore, because once -- once I met you, everything changed for the better. I love you.

Bianca: I know. I know you do. I'm sorry, I'm sorry -- I'm sorry I went to see your father.

Reese: No, no, I am sorry. I am sorry that I hurt you, Bianca. I am so sorry. I just want you to know I can live. I can live without my parents, but I cannot live without you.

[Bianca and Reese hug and kiss]

[Ryan walks into ConFusion and starts making out with Greenlee right on the bar, but it's only his imagination.  Instead, he just leaves without her seeing him]

Singer: I had it figured out. I eased your doubts. I turned your heart around. You see I made a list. If you knew that I knew, I know you can't resist, but now just look at me. I'm flailing, derailing, inhaling one last breath of you. I'm thinking, I'm thinking, it can't be true. Down to my last breath of you, taking my last breath of you
