Natalia: You have wanted my mother dead since the day she got here.
Angie: I hate this, too, Natalia. You have no idea. But I need to honor the DNR. We have been given a few more hours.
Natalia: She deserves years, not hours.
Angie: I am so sorry, sweetheart. I really am, but you -- you have to let her go.
Natalia: So you flipped a switch. How can it be that easy for you? You pull the plug. She's gone. Next patient. How could you be so inhuman?
Frankie: That's enough.
Natalia: Get out. Both of you, get out.
David: Don't you worry. You'll be doing just fine in no time. Here you go. This will make you feel better.
Krystal: "Cures what ails ya." That's what my momma always said. Oh. Oh, I feel really silly calling you over here now.
David: There's nothing silly about an anxiety attack.
Krystal: It's -- it's just that I feel just as bad as Tad does about Jamie, but, I mean, he's leaving me now? I mean, come on. I need him here. The kids, and -- and the holidays, and --
David: Ok, you know the milk isn't going to help when you work yourself into another attack. What you need to do is just relax and drink, ok?
Bianca: You're lying to me, right?
Reese: What would I be lying to you about?
Bianca: I -- I don't know. Nothing I can think of.
Reese: You've got that look.
Bianca: I don't -- I don't have a look.
Bianca: No. It's just -- it's just a feeling, ok? All right, I guess I can't read your mind all the time.
Reese: You can read my mind some of the time? Really? Ok, so what am I thinking right now?
Bianca: Right now?
Bianca: Ok, hang -- hang on a second. Ah -- you're thinking that you want to take a nice long, romantic walk in the snow with me, but you remember that I have my shift with Kendall.
Reese: Mm, brilliant and beautiful. You.
[Zach keeps vigil over Kendall, holding her hand]
Emma: I've missed you so much.
J.R.: Shortest board meeting on the books.
Joe: I'm not complaining.
J.R.: I'm surprised Hayward wasn't there.
Joe: Yes. Yes, so am I. He's been making every little piece of hospital business his business.
J.R.: Yeah, well, if we're lucky, maybe he's stuck in a snow bank somewhere.
Krystal: I love that song.
David: Mm. Good music, warm milk, the best comfort combo around.
Krystal: Cookies would not be terrible.
David: Hmm, you're talking food. You must be feeling better.
Krystal: Chalk it up to your miracle concoction. Hey, you. Is Jenny asleep?
Kathy: Yeah. Why are you here?
Krystal: It usually goes something like, "Hi, Dr. David. Nice to see you."
Kathy: It's nice to see you.
David: Nice to see you, too.
Kathy: Do you want to play a game?
David: I'm the master.
Krystal: Uh, don't you have to get back to the hospital.
David: No. It's still a snow day, remember?
Krystal: Uh, I have a good idea. What don't you and David read from your new Christmas book?
Kathy: Are you a good reader?
David: Well, I made it though med school, so I guess I'm ok.
Krystal: That was very kind of you.
David: No. Are you kidding me? Two beautiful women who read? I can't think of a better way to spend my time, and I get to keep an eye on you.
Krystal: I'm actually fine now.
David: Ok. So was Tad upset when you got home?
Krystal: He understood.
David: He understood? You were with me.
Krystal: I think I need some more milk.
David: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. This is fascinating. So you got home, you slipped into bed, you told Tad that you were with me, he rolled over, kissed you on the cheek, said, "That's ok, honey," went back to sleep, sweet dreams?
Krystal: My relationship with Tad is none of your business.
David: So you lied.
Krystal: David, Tad would not understand, and all that you'd get for your kindness to me is a black eye from him.
David: I appreciate you wanting to protect me, but you shouldn't have to lie, Krystal. You and I lost a daughter. Tad has to understand that, and respect it.
Krystal: Before or after he punches you out?
David: There's clearly a strong bond here between two people who shared and lost a great deal.
Krystal: You have no idea what your friendship means to me.
Natalia: Why are you still here? You want to murder my mother. At least have the decency to give me my time with her.
Frankie: All right.
Natalia: Ok, get out.
Frankie: Go ahead. I'll talk to her.
Natalia: You know, you can leave, too.
Frankie: I think I'll stay.
Natalia: She's breathing. I mean, it looks like she's sleeping. How can they just kill her?
Frankie: She's not sleeping. She's not even breathing. The machine is. This is exactly what Rebecca didn't want.
Natalia: Yeah, but there has to be something we can do.
Frankie: Hey, there is. We honor her wishes. Now, I know it's hard, but you have to say goodbye. Use this time to do that, not slam the people who want to help you.
Natalia: I don't know how to do it, Frankie. I don't know how to say good-bye.
Angie: I just wanted to do everything right. I've made everything worse.
Jesse: Oh, baby. You wanted to help Natalia. You wanted to give her hope. There's nothing wrong with that.
Angie: You -- you look at your daughter in there, and you tell me this is better.
Emma: Are you coming home?
Ryan: Mommy has to go to another hospital.
Emma: But you said we'd take care of her. Please, Mommy, come home with us.
Annie: Oh, you look so pretty. You've gotten so big. I've missed you so much.
Emma: Mommy, it's ok, Mommy.
Annie: I have to go to school.
Ryan: Yeah, ok. Mommy's got to get going, all right?
Annie: We have to go. If not, we're going to be late.
Ryan: Yeah. Yeah, ok. So, I want you to go with Greenlee, ok? Greenlee's going to take you.
Emma: Bye, Mommy. I love you.
Annie: Are you going to take me to school now, Daddy?
Ryan: Yeah, yeah. Yes, I am.
Annie: Who was that other girl? Is she in my class? I like her.
Ryan: You'll see her again. I promise.
Kathy: "But Mom and Dad must have sent Santa a letter because a puppy appeared and pounced little Trevor. They rolled on the floor, took turns giving chase. Trevor squealed in delight at the licks on his face. His prior mistake was now perfectly clear. It takes love, not toys, to bring Christmas cheer."
Krystal: That was lovely.
Kathy: Did you like it?
Krystal: Um, why don't you go upstairs now and get ready for bed, ok?
Kathy: Ok. I like you.
[Kathy hugs David]
Kathy: Are you crying?
Angie: I never should have resuscitated Rebecca.
Jesse: Angela, you can't do this to yourself. You're going to drive yourself crazy.
Angie: I have to walk into that room and honor Rebecca's DNR. The image that will burn in Natalia's brain is me turning the machine off that ends her mother's life. Me killing Rebecca. You tell me how do I ever reconcile that with that child?
Jesse: Shh. You do it with me. We do this together. Ok, you and me, us, all right? I will be here for you in any way you need me to be.
Natalia: I get the reality, I do. It's just that my whole life I told her about my day, you know? What I did, what I didn't do, and she'd always be so proud of me over the smallest things, you know? Tying my shoes, getting my driver's license, graduating. It's silly.
Frankie: No. When I save a patient, there is nothing I love hearing better than my mom telling me how brilliant it was. Look, I know this is tough, but you have to make a choice.
Natalia: I have. I want her to live.
Frankie: That choice is out of your hands. You have to choose how you're going to deal with this.
Natalia: So I can just -- just be scared like a little girl or I can accept this like an adult? Look, I want to be alone with my mom.
Frankie: You're still here?
Randi: Yeah, with lattes, regulars, and decaf.
Frankie: Thank you. But you know there's no reason for you to hang around.
Angie: Yes, there is. Randi's family.
Ryan: Oh, there she is. There she is.
Emma: What's wrong with Mommy? Why did she act like that?
Ryan: Well, um, it's just -- it's part of her sickness. She's going to be ok. I'm going to make sure of it, ok?
Greenlee: Hey, um, Emma, why don't you start on this book?
Ryan: Great. Great, here we go. Whoa, you're so heavy. My goodness. You couldn't hold onto her for five seconds?
Greenlee: She said she heard a nurse say Annie's name and then she just ran.
Ryan: That was exactly what I didn't want happening. I didn't want Emma to see Annie like that.
Greenlee: I know, I know. I'm sorry.
Ryan: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It's my fault.
Greenlee: Just -- just go to Oak Haven, ok? Do what you need to do for Annie, and I'll take care of her.
Ryan: Thank you.
Greenlee: I can't promise we won't eat all the Christmas cookies.
Ryan: Ok, ok, ok. Hey, Ems, I am going to go and see Mommy and make sure she's doing ok, and you're going to go home with Greenlee, ok?
Greenlee: Yeah, we'll get that replacement hot chocolate on the way.
Ryan: Thanks for doing this.
Greenlee: You know I'd do anything.
Emma: Can we get whipped cream on our hot chocolate?
Greenlee: Gobs of it.
Emma: You're the best friend I ever had.
Zach: Yeah, what's going on? Everything ok with the boys?
Reese: Yeah, they're great. Um, I just wanted to let you know that Bianca's acting a little itchy.
Reese: She thinks I'm lying to her.
Zach: About Kendall?
Reese: She asked me what happened at the cabin. I told her that you shut down, and you barely spoke, and she called me on it. Look, Zach, she knows me, and I can't keep doing this. I can't keep lying to her about her sister.
Zach: We're giving Bianca hope, and we're giving Erica hope. You need to be on board with this.
Reese: But -- but she's strong. She's so strong. Maybe it's time that we told her and we prepared her.
Zach: Don't worry about Bianca. I'll handle it.
Bianca: Handle what?
Joe: Have my secretary send you a copy of the minutes of the board meeting. Coffee?
Joe: All right.
J.R.: Thanks. Maybe you could add a note about why Hayward's running around like he owns the place.
Joe: I don't like that any more than you do. Believe me. He has insinuated himself into almost every major case we have. You know, he is consulting on Kendall, at Erica's request, but now he's put himself right in the middle of this Rebecca Fowler DNR mess. He seems to be everywhere.
J.R.: So fire his ass.
Joe: I can't. I can't fire any part of him. I can't even demote him.
Joe: Because we need him, J.R. I can't stand the man, but the hospital needs him. He's got really a hell of a reputation. He's whipping the cardiac unit into first class shape, and of course, that huge donation.
J.R.: Yeah, but he's dangerous.
Joe: Well, I don't know. Within these walls he's a good doctor, and he can make tough decisions.
J.R.: Oh, you can't honestly believe that Hayward's motivated to do what's best for this hospital because of his great humanitarianism.
Joe: It seems impossible to believe, but I think maybe Babe's death has changed him. That doesn't mean I'll turn my back to him.
J.R.: Yeah, some advice -- don't trust him any farther than you can spit.
David: I'm sorry, Kathy. I was just thinking about Babe.
Kathy: I still cry sometimes when I think about Aunt Julia, but I feel better afterwards, because she used to make me smile.
David: Babe made me smile, too. You want to know something? So do you.
Krystal: All right, um, time to get your jammies on, pumpkin, ok?
Krystal: I'm guessing Christmas isn't your favorite time of year. Maybe you need a little puppy to pounce all over you like in the story, huh? "Fa la la la la" and all that.
David: I've got to go.
Krystal: No. No, you don't.
David: Yes, I do. Thanks for everything.
Krystal: David, why don't you just stay and -- and talk about it.
David: There's nothing to talk about. Not a damn thing.
Annie: I'm really, really glad that could come with me, Daddy. I mean, the first day of school's really scary, but it's also really exciting, too. You know?
Ryan: Yeah, honey, I -- I know.
Man: Thanks for coming with her. It's made the transition much smoother.
Annie: Ok, I'm going to be really good. I'm going to raise my hand, and I'm going to make lots of friends, ok?
Man: This is Mrs. Lavery's room.
Nurse: This is our stop.
Ryan: Yeah, let's check this out.
Man: I'm sorry, Mr. Lavery. This is as far as you're permitted.
Ryan: Will I be allowed to visit?
Man: Per the court order and her doctor, as of now, no visitors are allowed.
Annie: Daddy, are you coming?
Ryan: Can I at least say good-bye?
Man: I'll allow it.
Zach: That was Reese on the phone.
Bianca: What did she want you to handle? Me?
Zach: No, she just -- she thinks you're mad at her.
Bianca: I'm not mad at her. She was -- she was telling me about you guys up at the cabin, and, I don't know, I just got this feeling like she was covering.
Zach: She was covering. She lied to you for me.
Bianca: What are you talking about?
Zach: It's Christmas. Kendall's in here, and I -- I lost it with her a little bit, and she didn't want to upset you.
Bianca: So, you guys really just stared at the fire?
Zach: Yeah, and I was praying for my wife to come home. That's all.
Bianca: Well, we all want that. So that's really it?
Bianca: It's weird. I'm -- I'm still getting that vibe, now from you.
Zach: Well you're in the hospital. There's a vibe doctor on the fourth floor if you want to check him up. Tell him I sent you.
Bianca: All right. Thank you very much for the good advice, but all I really need is my sister. How is she? Is there -- is there any change?
Zach: No, but it looks like there's more color in her cheek.
Bianca: See? Just hearing you say that makes me feel so much better.
Natalia: I'm ready to say good-bye. I can't do this all by myself. Can you come with me?
Annie: Where are the other kids? Are we early? That other little girl that I met before, she was nice. I liked her. Who was she? What's wrong?
Ryan: You're going to be fine.
Annie: I know. I'm going to get all gold stars, I promise. But where's the teacher? And where are all the desks? Ow, Daddy, you're hugging me too hard.
Ryan: Sorry, sorry. I have to go, but you're going to do your best for me, right?
Annie: Yeah, I always do my best for you, Daddy. What's wrong?
Ryan: I'm fine. Good-bye, Annie.
[David plays "Greensleeves" on the piano, then bangs on the keys]
Krystal: Nice song. Need to work on your delivery, though.
David: What the hell are you doing here?
Krystal: I was worried about you.
David: You shouldn't have driven here.
Krystal: I'm fine.
David: No, you're not fine. You just had an anxiety attack.
Krystal: You're the one in trouble.
David: Go home, Krystal.
Krystal: Those eyes. I've seen it before, when Babe died. I didn't think a man looking like that should be alone. Thought he might even want to talk about it.
David: Well, he doesn't. He likes being alone.
Krystal: Wow. I like what you've done with the place for the holidays. Real cheery.
Krystal: Yeah, kind of puts you in the mood to, I don't know, blow something up?
David: Mm-hmm. You don't like it, tell you what. Why don't you go home, and you can throw jingle bells and tinsel at your own tree, ok?
Krystal: I will. Just as soon as you tell me why you hate Christmas so much.
Reese: Oh, Miranda, sweetheart, yeah. Can you get me that ornament right there, the other Santa Claus? Yes, ah, merci.
Bianca: Oh, my goodness, isn't this the most beautiful tree ever? Yeah, hey, Miranda, can you do me a favor? Can you give this to your Uncle Zach?
Zach: You like the green one or the red one?
Spike: Red one.
Zach: What do you got? Ah, a Red Wing ornament. Thank you.
Bianca: You're welcome. Only one per tree.
Zach: You know, funny you would say that. I had an idea of doing the whole tree with Red Wing stuff. I'll cherish this one.
Zach: Come on, let's put it on the tree. You want to help me? Come here. Put it right in the middle where everybody can see it. Right there, Stanley Cup champion.
Reese: Oh, look at that.
Bianca: It would be even more perfect if Kendall were here.
Zach: Yeah, well, I think we all deserve some cookies.
Zach: I talked to Bianca and everything's fine. Come on.
Reese: Who wants to help me hang mistletoe? Oh, you're nearby!
Bianca: All right. I think that we are ready to light this tree.
Zach: Almost. We need an extension cord. There's one in the kitchen. I'll get it.
Bianca: I really wish Kendall could see this. Next year.
Reese: Yeah, next year.
Bianca: You know, when I got to the hospital, Zach was on the phone with you. He said that you called him because you thought I was upset about something. Why would you call him?
Reese: Well, because the two of you are close, and I thought that he would make you feel better.
Bianca: Well, I'm not mad at you. I just -- I just was worried that something happened that you didn't think that you could tell me.
Reese: Ok, look, you know what? I can't -- I tell you what, I can't deal with this.
Bianca: You can't deal with what?
Reese: With you thinking that I'm lying to you.
Bianca: Well, you did it before. About your parents, to try to protect me. I get it. I've done it. I've lied to somebody to try to protect them before, and... it's just that I always end up hurting the person that I was trying to protect.
Zach: De-dum-dum. Extension cord. Here, take this kid.
Zach: All right, here we go.
Bianca: You guys ready? Nice.
Zach: Ok. You ready? I'm going to need your help. Lights, camera, action!
Zach: Merry Christmas.
[Applauding and cheering]
Reese: Whoo, good job.
Bianca: Good job, sweetie.
David: All right, so I don't have the tree and the lights and the little leprechaun decorations.
Krystal: They're called elves.
Krystal: So is this where you tell me that Christmas is just another day, no big deal?
David: No. My father picked this special day to --
Krystal: Sit down, sit down. To what?
David: All the people I've ever loved, Krystal, all the people I'd want to share this holiday with, they're all gone.
Krystal: I'm so sorry.
David: All right, look. You know, I don't hate Christmas. I don't love it. It's just -- it's a holiday for kids, all right? With the toys and Santa and presents and hot chocolate.
Krystal: You're avoiding.
David: If I put a wreath on the front door, would that make you happy?
Krystal: David. I understand.
[Krystal and David kiss]
J.R.: Krystal? We're here. Hello?
Winifred: Hi. There they are. Hi, Little A, hi.
J.R.: Where's Krystal?
Winifred: Oh, you know, she had to run out.
J.R.: Well, we are on official sleepover business. So I guess we're just going to wait for Krystal.
Krystal: I'm sorry. I don't know what -- I don't know what came over me.
David: All right, you definitely convinced me. I am investing in mistletoe.
Krystal: I -- I'm feeling a little lightheaded, a little dizzy.
David: Right. What you need is bed, ok? Sleep. Time to go home.
Krystal: You're asking me to leave. That's a twist.
David: Yeah, yeah, and I'm going to take you, ok? You're in no shape to drive home.
Krystal: No, no, I'm fine.
David: No, you're not fine. I'm going to drive your car, and then I'm going to take a cab back. The keys, come on.
Krystal: This is -- this is the strangest anxiety attack I've ever had.
Frankie: Be at peace, Rebecca. Natalia will be with her family.
Jesse: You saved my life, Rebecca. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't be alive. I wouldn't have a beautiful daughter. And I promise you, she's in good hands.
Angie: You taught me so much about strength, dignity, and love. I want to thank you for that. What you did, giving Jesse back to me and Frankie, I never would have had the strength to make that sacrifice, and I will be forever grateful.
Natalia: I love you. I don't know what I'm going to do without you, Mama. I will make you proud. I promise.
Jessie: It's ok, it's ok.
Annie: I don't understand. I don't like it here. I don't like this school. I want to go home.
Nurse: You're going to stay with us for a while.
Annie: No, I don't want to. I want my dad. I need my dad right now.
Nurse: Why don't we get you into bed?
Annie: I'm not tired! I want to go home, I want to go home, I want to go home, I want to go home, I want to go home! I want my dad. I want -- Daddy! Daddy, get me out of here! No! Daddy!
Nurse: I need some help in here.
Annie: Get away from me! I need my dad, I need my dad. Dad, help me, help me -- Daddy!
Angie: Sinus rhythm, regular respiratory rate. Welcome back. There's someone who wants to talk with you.
Natalia: Mom? Mom. I can't believe it. You're alive. You're alive.
Rebecca: What happened? Why are you all here?
David: Oh. Are you ok?
Krystal: No more milk for me, right?
Ryan: Hey, oh, come here. Give me a big hug. Ok. Wow. Look at that dress, huh?
Greenlee: Yeah, we -- we're designing dresses for her doll's Christmas ball.
Ryan: Thank you for staying.
Emma: No. Greenlee, don't go. You can't leave.
Annie: No doctors, no doctors, no doctors. No doctors, no doctors, no doctors. No doc -- no doctors, no doctors, no doctors.
Aidan: I'm not a doctor, but I am going to help you.
Reese: Nobody takes more pictures than Bianca.
Bianca: And someday when we are old and gray and full of sleep, you'll be very glad that I spent so much time photo-documenting our life.
Zach: Yeats, huh? Nice. And photo-documenting, I don't think, is a word.
Bianca: Oh, all right. You know what? I will forgive both of you if you just smile for the camera.
Reese: All right.
Miranda: Say candy cane.
Reese and Bianca: Candy cane.
