Jesse: Mmm, looks delicious. Lunch doesn't look too bad either.
Angie: Can you believe this snow? It's finally starting to feel like Christmas.
Angie: Our first Christmas together again.
Jesse: The first of many to come. So have you figured out what you want to find in your stocking this year, little girl?
Jesse: Think on it.
Angie: You, big boy.
Jesse: Me? Good answer.
Rebecca: Um, I'm sorry. I, uh --
Angie: Oh, it's all right.
Rebecca: I just came out to see if I could help with lunch.
Angie: I think I've got it covered.
Rebecca: Oh, how beautiful. My grandmother used to say a snow like this was God's way of hiding everything outside under a white blanket, to give us a chance of seeing the beauty we have inside.
Zach: God, I can't believe it.
Reese: Oh, who could have predicted this was going to be the mother of all snow storms?
Zach: We should have turned around as soon as the snow started coming.
Reese: Would you stop being so hard on yourself?
Zach: Stupid idea.
Reese: No, it was not a stupid idea. It was a sweet idea to come on out here and cut down a Christmas tree for the kids.
Zach: No, it's sweet. Look at us. We're stuck in somebody's cabin. Great, good idea.
Reese: You didn't hit the deer. That's good. Bambi is out there roaming free.
Zach: Yeah, speaking of roaming -- there's no signal. This is great. Good stuff.
Reese: Ok, listen, I know you're frustrated, but here's something you can look on the bright side about, ok? We got into this cabin before we got buried out there.
Zach: You just don't understand, do you?
Reese: Of course, I do.
David: This is a nice surprise.
Krystal: Yeah, well, I'm lucky I made it up your driveway.
David: Yeah, it's really coming down out there. Let me take your coat.
Krystal: I don't know. I -- I don't even know why I'm here. I -- maybe I should just go before they close the roads.
Dave: Whoa, wait, wait a minute. You weren't just wandering aimlessly out there in the snow and happened by. You must have come here for some reason.
Krystal: It's about last night.
David: What about it?
Krystal: Something happened.
David: And you don't remember?
Krystal: No -- of course, I remember. It's just -- something happened that I don't understand.
David: I saw you at Babe's grave. You were having a rough time. All I did was take you here and try to make you feel better.
Krystal: Well, that's just it. I mean, whatever you did, it worked, despite the fact that I don't exactly trust you. I mean, for the first time since Babe died, I actually felt some comfort. You know, a little peace of mind here with you.
David: And is that so bad?
Krystal: Yes, yes, it is. It is. Because I've -- I've come back for more.
Jake: Nobody should be traveling in this weather unless it's absolutely necessary, unless they have to.
Brot: Trust me, I have to.
Jake: Why don't I let you guys talk.
Brot: I was just leaving.
Taylor: Clearly. You're not going anywhere until I get some answers.
Brot: I've given you all the answers I can give you.
Taylor: So you're sticking to your story -- that you never really loved me?
Taylor: Wow, if that's true, then what was this doing in your pocket?
Frankie: Yes, yeah, right -- whatever.
Jesse: What the hell have you two been into?
Frankie: Snowball fight -- your girl over here started it.
Natalia: I couldn't help it. The snow's too perfect. It makes the proper snowball.
Natalia: "Uh-uh." How are you feeling, Mom?
Rebecca: I'm pretty good. Angie's made some hot chocolate. You look like you could use some.
Angie: Hey, so what was up with the tree? Were you able to find one?
Frankie: Yeah, yeah, but it's snowing like crazy out there, but Stuart was still having his charity sale. He helped us pick out a beauty. It's outside on top of the car. So check this -- I'm coming out to grab the scissors to cut the thing for the tree, and here on a half-shell over here -- yes, popped me in the back of the neck. You know it was on after that.
Natalia: Right, and I owned you.
Frankie: Ha, whatever.
Natalia: Ok, listen, rock head, you want a rematch? The tree is still out there on the car. You know we can do it again.
Frankie: Let's do this, please.
Natalia: Ok, ok.
Rebecca: Oh, you better rethink that, Frankie. She's really got a good aim.
Frankie: Hot chocolate first.
Angie: It's nice to see them getting along so well.
Jesse: Yeah. Baby, I know this is awkward for you.
Angie: I like Natalia. I do, and -- and she's really earned Frankie's seal of approval. As far as Rebecca goes, you and I are in the right place with that, ok? And all I want is to help make her life as easy and as comfortable as possible.
Jesse: You are as amazing as you are beautiful.
Angie: Well, uh, this is true.
Angie: It's also the right thing to do.
Jesse: I love you.
Angie: I love you more.
David: You know, it was probably just the fact that you don't have to hide your pain with me, because I'm right there with you.
Krystal: Well, that's possible. All I know is that it didn't hurt so much last night.
David: I'm glad to hear that. Do me a favor, will you? When you figure out what I did, let me know, because my nights haven't gotten any easier. You know, maybe it was something as simple as that warm milk I gave you. Why don't I make you some more, ok? Good.
Zach: Can't get a signal anywhere. Well, it looks like we're going to follow the first snowplow out. Probably going to spend the night here.
Reese: Well, at least the hunter who stays here keeps his cupboards well stocked. Although, I got to be honest, I don't think there's anything that's going to stir our appetites. Oh, look what I found. I think this is an ancient can of coffee. Why don't I go make us a couple cups? Hey, Zach, it's ok. It's ok. Rachael's not going to leave the kids. And as soon as Bianca realizes that we've been gone for a good amount of time, she's going to put an all-points out on both of us. But you're not thinking about that, are you? You're only thinking about Kendall.
Zach: I shouldn't be here. I should be with my wife when she dies.
[David spikes Krystal's milk again with one of his secret pills]
Krystal: Wow, you know, Christmas is coming up fast. How I'm going to get through that, I have no idea.
David: One day at a time. Keep busy, lean on friends. You know, after Leora died, I was convinced that I would never be the same again, and I wasn't, I suppose. But as time went on, the pain eased. It didn't go away forever, but life became livable again eventually. And I have to keep reminding myself of that fact. But Babe -- Babe was very different.
[Knock on door]
Krystal: Whoa, that doesn't sound good.
David: Yeah. Ahem.
Bianca: Oh, thank God you're home. I spun out down the street, and I got stuck. That snow is unbelievable.
Krystal: Oh, well, come on in.
David: Yeah, absolutely. Shelter from the storm.
Taylor: Did you think that I would believe that you never really loved me?
Brot: I never gave it to you, did I?
Taylor: That's because you were blown to hell. Not because you didn't love me. You can't take back what we shared. I won't let you. You said things to me. We made promises to each other. You're just lying. That's what you're doing, and you can lie to me now, but your kisses and your touch and your tears and your promises -- everything that we had back there. That tells the real story, and you know it.
Brot: I've changed.
Taylor: I can see that. I will give you that. Yes, you came very close to death, and you have the scars to prove it. But that bomb didn't blow away what we had together.
Brot: My feelings have changed, too.
Taylor: You're a liar.
Brot: Now you're telling me how I feel?
Taylor: You are a liar and a thief, because you are trying to take away the best memories of my life and of your life! Damn you! You're hiding behind those scars. That's what you're doing, but I still see you. I see the man that I fought beside and the man that I laughed with and the man I danced with and the -- the man that I made love with. I have those memories. And no amount of your self-pitying, "I am not good enough" crap, is going to take that away from me. No, no. No. You don't get to leave. Not until you -- you look me in the eye -- you look into these eyes, and you tell me that you never really loved me. And if you can do that -- If you can do that, I will let you go, because I will know then that the Brot Monroe I knew is really dead.
[When Brot walks away, Taylor cries]
Natalia: Ah, that's great.
Jesse: Hey, not bad, my little elves of color.
Angie: You know what? I'm going to get the ornaments.
Natalia: Oh, Angie, um, I have a surprise for Mom and Dad. I hope you don't mind. I had a friend send me a box of ornaments from Denver, the ones we grew up with, and I was thinking that maybe we could mix them in with yours this year.
Angie: Of course. I think that's a great idea.
Natalia: Ok, so --
Jesse: What have we got?
Natalia: Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait -- remember this one? My first skiing trip. We spent pretty much the whole time sliding on our butts.
Frankie: Uh-oh, looks like this one got broken in shipment.
Rebecca: Oh, no, it didn't.
Jesse: Actually, that was that Christmas we were shopping -- this little knucklehead was running around the store like a little maniac, and I told her, "You break anything, I'm going to break you, and make you pay for it on top of it." And after I finished that, I ran into a Christmas tree and knocked this thing off. Broke it.
Natalia: See, that was the ultimate "Gotcha, Dad" moment.
Jesse: Yeah, well, the store manager, he wanted to blow it off. He said that I shouldn't worry about it, but I told him I had to set an example, so I bought it.
Zach: Thank you.
Reese: You are welcome. Tell me about her.
Zach: Tell you about Kendall?
Reese: Mm-hmm. You know, she's going to be my sister-in-law, and I've heard all about her from Bianca, but I'd love to hear about her from you.
Zach: Well, what do you want to hear? Where do I start?
Reese: Wherever you want.
Zach: She saved my life. She gave me Spike and Ian. She gave me happiness, you know, and I never thought a guy like me would have that. On a very shallow note, she's probably the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. And, still, I look at her, and I get lost in her eyes for hours. She's the partner I never thought I'd have.
Reese: She sounds damn near perfect.
Zach: Damn near.
Reese: But not quite?
Reese: No, that's good. That is good because it's people's faults that make them human. So tell me about hers. Tell me what just -- what drives you crazy about her.
Zach: I don't know. She's stubborn, you know. She gets her teeth stuck in something, she's not going to let go. She's got a lot more Erica in her than Bianca does. And she's passionate.
Reese: That's good.
Zach: Yeah, it's good at times, and at times it's not. It's a double-edged sword. I mean, she gets involved in things that I just don't -- just don't understand, and it's intriguing and just one of those things that makes me love her. And she's -- she's probably the strongest woman I've ever known.
Reese: Then don't give up on her.
Zach: I'm not giving up on her. But I'm not an idiot.
Jake: Going down?
Brot: Whatever it takes to get me out of this place.
Jake: How's the girl?
Brot: She's all yours.
Jake: That's not what I meant.
[The elevator lights blink and it stops]
Brot: What the --
Jake: Great, fabulous.
Brot: What's happening?
[Jake pushes buttons then sighs]
Jake: Hello? It's Dr. Martin. I'm in one of the south elevators, and we're stuck between the floors. Yeah, no -- I know -- as quick as you can. Thank you.
Brot: What did they say?
Jake: They're working on it. This has been an ongoing electrical problem since the tornadoes. It happened last week, but they're working on it.
Brot: Well, how long is it going to take?
Jake: It shouldn't take long. And it will give me a chance to have some time with you.
Brot: For what?
Jake: To talk to you about maybe staying in Pine Valley.
Brot: Why would you want to do that?
Jake: Because it's obvious that Taylor is still very much in love with you.
[Sitting alone in her wheelchair, Taylor puts on the engagement ring]
[Knock on door]
Rebecca: Angie, may I come in?
Angie: Yes, please.
Rebecca: I am sorry that Natalia sent for those ornaments. I don't think she knew how it would make you feel.
Angie: Her memories should be on the tree as much as ours. It's Christmas. And sharing and selflessness -- they're part of what the holidays are all about.
Rebecca: Yes, but, Angie, this is your first Christmas with Jesse in 20 years.
Angie: You know, I guess it was just a sudden reminder of all the years that Frankie and I missed with him. That's all. Oh, Rebecca --
Rebecca: I'm sorry. I -- I don't mean to do this. I've been trying to hold it together for you and for Natalia and for Frankie and -- Angie, I know why she insisted on hanging our old ornaments. It was always my favorite time of the year, and I don't think I'm going to make it to this Christmas. Please, Angie -- yes, I had Jesse for 20 wonderful Christmases, but you get to have him for all the rest.
Taylor: Excuse me, Nurse? Have you seen Dr. Martin -- Dr. Jake Martin?
Nurse: Not today. I'm sorry.
Brot: That's kind of an unusual strategy coming from a guy like you, trying to talk me into staying?
Jake: Well, I'm an unusual guy. This is not easy for me. I fell for your fiancée. She is an incredible woman on many, many levels, but you know that. I don't have to convince you of that.
Brot: It's your lucky day. Like I said before, she's all yours.
Jake: No, that's not going to work with me.
Brot: Why not?
Jake: Because I'm not going to compete with you.
Brot: Ok, so you're not Brad Pitt, but you definitely win in the looks department. What, what is that? You think I'm a charity case to her now, don't you?
Jake: No, I think that you are the greatest love of her life. I think she has the ability to see past your scars and into the heart of the man she loves more than anyone she has ever known. And you may be determined to throw that all away, but I would be damned if I try to compete with a love like that.
Reese: Zach, I'm sorry. I really -- I didn't mean to imply --
Zach: It's fine. It's ok. We both know that Kendall's heart's not going to hold out much longer. It's time for me to face reality. So I need the time that I have left with her to prepare for the time when she's gone. I have my boys to think about and her mother and sister. Hey, I would love to believe in miracles, but I think, right now, I've got to prepare for reality. For her sake, as well as mine.
Reese: Well, you're right, ok? But once you've prepared for the worst, why don't you try and hope for the best? You have to believe in miracles. You have to believe it's possible, Zach.
[Zach picks up his jacket and leaves the cabin]
Reese: Zach, what are you -- where are you go--
Bianca: All of the sudden, the snow was just coming down so fast, and I couldn't see a thing. And then I skidded out of control, and with Gabrielle in the car seat screaming her head off, I was just so freaked out. And I have to feed her. I have some milk in here somewhere.
Krystal: Let me hold her for you. I -- I mean --
Bianca: Thank you.
Krystal: I can understand if you're not comfortable.
Bianca: Oh, Krystal, thank you. The past is just that, past, especially now.
Krystal: She's beautiful.
Bianca: Thank you.
David: You must be freezing. Why don't I get you something to warm you up, ok?
Bianca: Oh, yes, thanks, David. That sounds great.
Krystal: Oh, you know what? How about some warm milk? It will do you wonders.
David: Oh, no, no, no -- um, I mean, I'll get you your own glass.
Krystal: Oh, well, no, I didn't even touch that one. Drink up.
Bianca: Thank you. Oh, that's nice, mmm.
[Bianca drinks David's spiked milk]
Bianca: It's amazing how coming home has just changed everything. I mean, in Paris, Reese and I had our own -- our own little world. And then ever since I've come back here, everything's been so complicated. I mean, the tornadoes and -- and Kendall. Of course, losing Babe. And there's something else, too. I -- I don't know. Reese -- I just thought that I knew her so well, and now I just get this feeling. Wow, I'm talking a lot. I'm so sorry.
David: It's all right. It's all right. I know what you mean. Pine Valley doesn't seem to be the same. In fact, I don't think it will quite ever be the same again.
Bianca: It's funny, though. I haven't felt so relaxed since I've been back. I feel great. Oh, I'm so sorry. I -- here I am going on about how good I feel and everything that you're going through -- are you doing ok?
Krystal: Well, it's still difficult. But I feel like -- I feel like she's with me, you know? And that -- that helps. But, hey, I know what you mean about feeling at ease in this house. I mean, maybe it's just an escape from everything. Like David said, shelter from the storm.
Bianca: I can't even imagine what you're going through. I wish that there was something that I could do to help take your pain away.
Krystal: You know, right this second, there is something.
Krystal: Let me cuddle that sweet little girl again.
Bianca: Oh. Absolutely.
Krystal: Oh. Hello, gorgeous.
Reese: Hey --
Reese: What happened? Where did you go? What were you doing?
Zach: I tried to move the car one more time. I put some stuff under the wheels. It moved for a second, but we can't get it out. We've got to wait for the snowplows.
Reese: You know what? You're crazy. You're absolutely crazy. Come here. God, your hands are freezing. You could have frozen to death out there, you know.
Zach: I can't sit here. I've got to get back there. I don't want to be here when she dies.
Reese: Would you just look at me for a minute?
Zach: Oh --
Reese: Come here, come here. She's not going to die. She's not going anywhere without you. And, Zach, if this really is her time to go, she's going to wait for you.
Brot: You're not competing with me anymore for Taylor.
Jake: I've been competing with you since the day that I met her. Believe me, it's not easy battling a ghost. Huh. But as you know, there is something about her. And so I kept at it. And when she got hurt, I pushed her and pushed her to her limit until she got back up on her feet. And I realize this is a spectacular, spectacular woman.
Brot: So why don't you take her in your arms and tell her that?
Jake: Because you are here, Brot. You are very much alive. You're not a ghost. You're living, you're breathing, and I would never, never do that to somebody.
Brot: Well, maybe you don't have to worry about it, because from now on, I won't be around.
Jake: Well, if you leave, she'll just follow you until she finds you, because that is who she is. So why don't you just stop torturing the woman and give it a chance?
Taylor: If you do talk to him, would you tell him to call me, ok?
Frankie: Yeah, sure. You ok?
Taylor: Yeah, I'll be fine.
Angie: Yeah, I understand. It's ok, sweetheart. I know. I know. I'm sorry, too. Well, we'll talk soon, ok? I love you.
Jesse: Check this out. Ta-da. What's wrong?
Angie: That was Cass. It's looks like she won't make it for Christmas after all.
Jesse: Oh, baby, I'm -- I'm sorry.
Angie: It'll be the first one we've spent apart.
Jesse: Well, is there something wrong? Is Jacob sick or something?
Angie: No, Jacob's fine. She really didn't tell me why. I mean, she knows what's going on here. I don't think she wants to deal with the drama. I can understand that.
Angie: You know, we're having our first Christmas together in 20 years, and I'm sharing it with people I barely know. I mean, a tree filled with memories for you -- they mean nothing to me. And I hate feeling this way, Jesse. I really do because I know that I shouldn't.
Jesse: You know what? You feel however the hell you want to feel.
Angie: I was just holding onto the thought of Cass being here, you know. And now that she's not -- it's ok. I'll be ok. We'll get through this Christmas, and we're just going to look forward to the next.
Natalia: Dad, Angie, it's Mom! She passed out. I don't think she's breathing. Come on.
David: Looks like you three are here for the evening.
Bianca: That's all right with me. I'm very happy just sitting here staring at the fire. It reminds me of a vacation that I took with Reese to Jamaica. They had this big, awesome fire pit, and they would cook these amazing things in banana leaves. And we just sat by the fire, drinking some very dangerous rum drinks, and laughing. I wish Reese were here right now.
[Bianca closes her eyes and falls asleep on the couch]
David: You ok?
Krystal: It's just --
David: I know.
Krystal: They grow up so fast, you know. I remember when Jenny was this tiny. And Babe. I used to listen to Babe's little heartbeat when she was just born. Oh, God, I just wish --
David: Would you like me to take the baby?
Krystal: No. Wow, look at her. I think she's got the right idea. It really is relaxing here. This place is like an enchanted castle. Come to Wildwind, forget your troubles, and sleep in heavenly peace.
Jake: I can't pretend to know the hell that you've been through and everything you've lost, but I do know one thing. There's only one thing standing in your way. And that's you. You cannot tell me that you don't think about her and everything that is still possible.
Brot: I don't remember much about the explosion. The bright white light, and the heat -- it was -- no way I can describe it. And Taylor -- I can see her face. It was a face like an angel. And that image -- that image is the only thing getting me through.
Jake: Well, then you got to stop running from her and give her a chance. It's the same chance that you both were willing to take before the explosion. It's the same chance that we all take when we -- we fall in love. What's the worst thing that could happen? It doesn't work out.
Jake: We are back on her floor. So are you still leaving?
Angie: She's not breathing.
Frankie: No pulse. Mom, she signed a DNR.
Angie: Natalia, she didn't want to be revived.
Natalia: No -- no, no, no, you have to help her. You can't just let her die. She wanted to make it until Christmas. It's not even Christmas yet.
Angie: Natalia, I'm so sorry.
Natalia: No, you can't just let her die!
Jesse: Baby, baby. Angela, do something, please.
David: I can't help but wonder about all the what-ifs. I mean, what if I had known that you were pregnant with Babe? What if I had been there as a father for her from the beginning? Where would we have all been?
Krystal: I thought I could be everything to her. I didn't think we needed a man in our lives. I thought it would just complicate things.
David: I would have looked after you, Krystal -- both of you -- supported you. I would have done the right thing.
Krystal: Maybe if you had been in our lives, she would still be here.
David: Back then I was in no shape to be a father. I was a kid myself. You did a wonderful job with our daughter, Krystal. She turned into an amazing young woman. She was who she was because of you.
[Krystal takes David's hand]
Taylor: Did you forget something?
Brot: Yes -- who I am.
Taylor: You are Sergeant Brot Monroe.
Brot: I know that. I'm just not the same person anymore.
Taylor: Not one of us is. But if you'll give me a chance, I would like to find out who you've become. Can you do that?
Brot: Yeah. I'm cool with that.
Announcer: This week --
Reese: I can't see lying to her about her sister.
Announcer: Her fiancé's hiding something.
Bianca: I just got the feeling like she was covering.
Zach: She lied to you for me.
Announcer: But that's not the only secret she's got.
Bianca: How could you not tell me?
