Tad: How are you doing? Sorry. My name is, uh --
Man: I know who you are. You shouldn't have come.
Tad: Well, I guess I'll leave just as soon as you explain why you hired me to come up with information on Taylor Thompson.
Taylor: You broke up with Amanda because of me? Wow, that was pretty stupid.
Jake: Not from where I'm sitting.
Taylor: Do you think you're fooling me? You didn't break up with Amanda to get me. You're just saying that because you're trying to get me to walk. Well, for your information, I'd rather do 24/7 latrine duty than get involved with somebody like you.
Krystal: We are standing here at Babe's fresh grave, and you're talking about bastard children with David.
J.R.: I'm sorry. I was out of line.
Krystal: You're damn right you were.
J.R.: I'm just afraid for you. I thought we were rid of him for good.
Krystal: I can handle my own against any man.
J.R.: I know what David's capable of. Especially when it comes to women.
Amanda: Oh, what's wrong?
David: Amanda, you're a spectacularly beautiful woman, but you've also had a bit to drink.
Amanda: I'm not drunk. Ok, maybe a little, but I was enjoying this.
David: No, no, no, no, no. Wait a minute. I don't take advantage like that. I'm going to call you a cab.
Amanda: Mm, mm -- no, come on. Don't leave. Don't leave, Jake.
Greenlee: You were right.
Ryan: Right about what?
Aidan: Take him to the car, Greenlee. I'll sort this out.
Ryan: This -- this is what you thought all along? That they're dead?
Aidan: Greenlee, take him to the car.
Ryan: No. You're wrong. You're both wrong -- it's not them. It can't be them. My wife and my daughter are ok, alive. Dig!
Aidan: What is it, Ryan?
Ryan: No. No. No. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, oh, my God! It's Emma's raincoat. No. Oh, my God.
Natalia: What about radiation, chemotherapy?
Jesse: Your mother said she doesn't want treatment. She just feels that --
Natalia: Look, you don't speak for her, ok? You can't tell me how my mother feels. You can't let this take you down, Mom, not without a fight.
Rebecca: Oh, honey, I feel this is going to be difficult for you. I know that. But I'm a doctor. I know the facts, and I have made my decision. It is my time.
Natalia: No, no -- no.
Man: I hired you. That means you come up with the information I asked you to find out. Not the reasons why.
Tad: Ok. Fair enough. This is the cashier's check you sent me. As of right now, I no longer work for you. Now I'm here as a friend of Lieutenant Thompson. Once again, who are you, and why do you want to know so much about her?
Man: My name is Mike Sweeney. I was in Taylor's unit when we were in Iraq together.
Tad: So, why hire me? Why a private investigator? Why don't you just, you know, pick up the phone, call Taylor, and tell her you wanted to catch up on old times?
Mike: Because I -- because I liked her. A lot. But she was engaged to another guy that passed away in Iraq.
Tad: Yeah, so I heard.
Mike: I just didn't want to do anything that would stir up any bad memories. All I wanted was to see if she was ok.
Tad: Well, she's not. Not anymore.
Jake: I broke up with Amanda. Well, I broke up with Amanda for a lot of reasons. But one of them was you. I -- I didn't think it was fair to her anymore, and I didn't think it was fair to myself, you know, if you don't really see a future there.
Taylor: I don't believe you. I don't. I wish you'd stop messing with my head like you do all the time.
Jake: Yeah, there's a lot of things I would like to say to you, if it's ok with you. I would like to tell you how I have been feeling, how I've been feeling about you.
Krystal: I know all about David, who he is, what he's capable of.
J.R.: Look, I'm sorry that I insulted you. I just can't stand to see a woman that has been sucked in before -- I mean, after everything my mom has gone through --
Krystal: I know, I know, I know. But Dixie's story is different than mine. I mean, he had saved her life.
J.R.: And he wrecked it. She was strong, Krystal. Just like you. She loved her family. Just like you. She was devoted to Tad, just like you. I don't know how he did it, but David got in more than once.
Krystal: Well, he's not so sure of himself anymore. He tried to kill himself. I got there just in time.
J.R.: Why the hell did you stop him? Look, all I'm saying is what you've gone through, losing Babe -- I don't want to see him do to you what he did to my mother. Don't let him wreck your life.
David: Amanda, look at me. I am not Jake Martin.
Amanda: No, you're not.
David: No, I'm not.
Amanda: Because if you were, I'd punch your lights out. I hate that son of a --
David: No, I don't think you're quite at hate just yet. You're still working through that place called hurt.
Amanda: Well, I could get through there blindfolded. I've sure as hell been there enough. I did think that I knew how to avoid it, though. I mean, I -- I did with J.R. It was good while it lasted. Next.
David: Wait a minute. Are you saying you and J.R. had something going on again since I've been gone?
Amanda: Yep. God knows why. Oh, who am I kidding? I know why. He's good in bed. Profitable, too.
David: In what way?
Amanda: Five million ways, money I just lost on a gamble with some perfume.
David: You got $5 million out of Chandler Junior?
Amanda: Well, actually, it was out of his daddy, but it was thanks to J.R.
David: This is fascinating. How did you manage that?
Amanda: Combination of things. A little blackmail here, taking advantage of his twisted relationship with Adam there, and voila. Amanda's a millionaire. At least, for a little while.
David: Hmm. Amanda, the more I learn about you, the more impressed I am.
David: Absolutely. You're a woman who deserves to have the very best a man can offer. Respect, admiration, adulation. You should have a man on your arm who knows how lucky he is to be there. Hey, hey, what's going on?
Amanda: Jake never talked to me like that. No guy ever has.
David: Then all the other guys you've been with have been a bunch of fools.
Greenlee: Aidan, don't. We don't need to see anymore. Let the police dig them up.
Aidan: Ryan? Look.
Greenlee: I don't understand. What kind of sick joke is this?
Aidan: It's a game. They're playing with Ryan.
Ryan: Greenlee, will you -- will you go through the clothes and see if you can find anything? Aidan, let's keep digging. Let's see if there's anything else in here, ok?
Ryan: Guys. This is Annie's this is Annie's. Annie. A shot glass?
Aidan: The kidnapper left it for you as a clue.
Rebecca: There are no miracle cures. Any treatment is just going to give me just a few more months, but not the quality of life I want for my last few days. I need you to understand that, and I want to make sure that you're well taken care of when I'm gone.
Jesse: Natalia, I will be here for you. I promise you that. Angela and I would like you to be a part of our family.
Natalia: No. I don't want to be a part of your family.
Rebecca: Natalia, please. Listen to your father.
Natalia: No, no, this is so wrong.
Rebecca: Na -- Thank you for reaching out to her.
Jesse: Well, she's my daughter, Rebecca. She's our daughter, and I promise you I will be here to take care of her.
Rebecca: Unfortunately, Jesse, she doesn't believe that.
Randi: Hey, Natalia. How're you feeling?
Natalia: Hey, Randi. What do you want?
Randi: To help. I heard about your mom, and I'm really sorry. I know this must be difficult for you.
Natalia: You don't. You don't know what I'm going through.
Randi: Actually, I sort of do. When I was little, my mom, she got really sick. And to this day, it's been the hardest thing that I've had to go through.
Natalia: I'm sorry.
Randi: Anyway, why don't you get out of this hospital and take a break? Come with us. Maybe we can help.
Ryan: Have you seen her?
Ryan: Ok, we'll take three beers then, please. Keep the change.
Ryan: How about this little girl? Have you seen her?
Bartender: We don't have many little girls come in here -- or pretty women.
Man: Yes. I've seen this woman, just yesterday.
Taylor: Oh, I know how you feel about me, Martin. You feel pity. And you also feel a truckload of guilt, because you think you had something to do with me getting knocked down those stairs.
Jake: No, I feel terrible. I saw you at the bottom of the staircase. I feel terrible, but I don't pity you. No, I don't pity you. I do, however, notice that you are using this whole situation to check out, just to give up, and I feel you've been doing that ever since you lost your fiancÚ. I also feel you want to go back to Iraq to -- not to fight the fight, but to -- to figure out a way to get yourself killed.
Tad: It's a bit of a story. Basically, she's -- she's taken a fall. She got hurt. Taylor's paralyzed from the waist down. She's in the Pine Valley Hospital, and the doctors don't know whether the damage is permanent or not. Either way, she's stopped fighting, stopped trying to help herself. Maybe you can help her.
Mike: No. I can't help her.
Tad: Well, you never know unless you try.
Mike: Yes, I do. Look at me. How am I going to help her?
Rebecca: It's my fault, Jesse.
Jesse: No, I'm the one who left you.
Rebecca: Would you please stop saying that? You had always made it perfectly clear that no one could replace your wife and your boy.
Jesse: I was angry at myself for not being able to give you more.
Rebecca: Honey, you were split in half, and that's where I made my biggest mistake. I would have seen it in a patient, but I didn't see it in -- how it was affecting my own daughter. After you left, Natalia said that even before she realized why we never really got married that she always had this feeling that she would lose you one day, and when you left, she was upset, but she seemed to get over it quickly, and I think she was preparing to lose you all along, and in doing so, she didn't -- never really trusted you. I hope that before I die, I can convince her to open her heart to you again.
Taylor: Where the hell do you get off? You don't know how I feel! You don't have any idea how I feel. I do not have some sort of death wish. I -- I just want revenge. I just want revenge. I just want to kill the bastards who took away the love of my life.
Jake: Let me ask you, is this what the rest of your life is going to be about? It's going to be about your dead fiancÚ? He's dead. I'm sorry. That's unfortunate. On the other hand, you are very much alive.
Taylor: I'm not. I'm not alive. This is not alive. I'm -- I'm useless! This is useless. These are --
Jake: Taylor, we have all been hurt. We've all felt like we hit rock bottom, right? We've all felt like there's no way out. We've all felt like we're never going to love again. I've felt that way. I -- I lost the person that I loved more than anybody in this life, in this world.
Taylor: Really? Did she get blown up by an IED?
Jake: No, no, she just left me. She just left me. We were working in the Sudan, and one day, I'm trying to put together this poor shmoe's chest cavity, and she took off with the delivery guy, the guy that delivers the supplies to our camp. Now, this, this was the person that I loved more than anybody in the world, and she said she loved me just as much, but she left the mighty surgeon for a delivery guy. Now, I know that that kind of humiliation and that kind of hurt -- it does not compare. It is not as traumatic an experience as grieving somebody who has died, although there were many, many days that I pretended that she's just dead, because it's some sort of coping device, I suppose, even though I -- I know that she's out there someplace. I'm just saying that I know what it feels like to be alone and to be angry, hopeless.
Taylor: I'm sorry. I'm sorry you got hurt like that.
Tad: If you don't mind me asking, how did it happen?
Mike: Pinned down during a firefight. RPG hit a car's gas tank.
Tad: When are you going to get out of here?
Mike: Soon. Real soon.
Tad: Where are you going to go? Home? Where are you from?
Mike: You don't quit, do you? Always digging around the edges, trying to find a story. Well, this is all the story I've got. Keep this. We had a deal, which means you have to honor our confidentiality. Trust me. You won't be hearing from me again.
Tad: And that's it? Any way this plays out, you're determined Taylor never finds out about you. Well, Mr. Sweeney, I sincerely hope you reconsider your decision not to contact Taylor, because right now, she could use all the friends she could get. I meant what I said. She's not doing well, physically or emotionally.
Krystal: You don't need to worry about me. I love Tad. And let's stop arguing about these stupid, ugly what ifs. It's not what Babe would want.
J.R.: You're right.
Krystal: Anyway, I came here to give her this. I thought she would want it close by.
J.R.: Maybe you should go home.
Amanda: And it really sucks that Erica's taken over at Fusion. I mean, she is treating me like trash.
David: Well, Erica's going through a tough time right now. Kendall might not come out of that coma.
Amanda: So she gets to treat the rest of us like that?
David: You just do your job day in and day out, before you know it, Erica will get to the point where she respects that.
Amanda: Hmm. I have a feeling the next few weeks are going to be oodles of fun. Ok, I have to get some rest. I can't drive home for a while.
David: Well, you know your way around the place. Pick a bedroom, any bedroom.
Amanda: I got up too fast. Ah. Thank you, for being surprisingly sweet.
Aidan: Now tell us where you saw her.
Man: Maybe you'd like something else. Tequila?
Greenlee: Uh, no, thanks.
Man: Mmm, you smell good.
Greenlee: And you don't, so beat it.
Man: Downtown. I saw her downtown.
Ryan: Where downtown?
Man: At the local whorehouse.
Man: So good.
[People speaking Spanish]
Ryan: You all right?
Greenlee: Oh, let me see. Let me see. Oh, you got clocked really good. You need some ice.
Aidan: Greenlee, I'm fine.
Greenlee: No, you're not. Here. Here you go.
Aidan: No, just get the hell away from me, all right?
Natalia: You don't have to do this.
Frankie: Do what?
Natalia: Take me here. I mean, you don't even know me. You're mad our father lied to you. I'm mad my mother is dying. You can still deal with our father, Frankie. There is nothing I can do for my mom.
Frankie: Your mom still needs you. You can show her that you love her.
Natalia: Hey, that's all that's left, isn't it? You're a doctor. You tell me.
Frankie: Yeah, but I'm not God, and I don't have all the answers. Your mom is sick. And she has limited options.
Natalia: Limited options? You act like you want her to die so she's out of your father's life for good.
Frankie: Well, if that's what you think, then you don't know me, clearly.
Frankie: I've got to get back to the hospital. A patient is meeting me.
Natalia: Ok. Go. I'll stay with her.
Frankie: Get some rest.
Natalia: I'll try.
Randi: So, what do you want to eat?
Natalia: Nothing. I'm good.
Randi: Uh-uh, no. You've been eating horrible hospital food. You've -- you've got to be hungry. Aren't you?
Jesse: I swear to you, from now on, I will be here for Natalia. I cheated you out of the life you deserved.
Rebecca: No, you didn't.
Jesse: Yes, I did. I cheated you. I cheated Natalia. Angela, I cheated you and Franklin, by coming back here and not telling you right away about Rebecca and Natalia. I -- I used really bad judgment. I thought I was protecting you all, and I ended up hurting you, all of you. Whatever you need, I will be here for you and Natalia.
[Rebecca grunts as she has a seizure]
Angie: I need someone in here! Help!
Jake: Sorry for talking about my past. That was messed up. Whatever I -- I have dealt with, it's nothing compared to what you're dealing with now.
Taylor: It is. That last night, that very last night that Brot and I were together, it was perfect. We, uh, we got a little hotel room, and Brot had a -- a mini CD player. So we danced. We danced all night. And then, we made love. And then we danced some more. I can still feel his hand on the small of my back. And I can feel his lips on my lips. And I can hear him whispering in my ear. It was perfect, that last night.
David: Junior. What can I do you for?
J.R.: You stay away from Krystal. I'm not going to let you mess up Tad's marriage.
David: I have no designs on Krystal. Scout's honor.
J.R.: Hmm, keep it that way. What about Amanda?
J.R.: Yeah, I saw her car outside. Where is she?
David: Right behind you. Made you look.
J.R.: I'm not playing games with you.
David: All right, just relax, ok? Amanda's car broke down just down the street. I helped her push it here. I called her a cab.
J.R.: How come I don't believe you?
David: I guess because you don't think I can change.
J.R.: I assume she's upstairs in your bed. It's better than Krystal.
David: Well, that's funny. I would think that you would be just as protective of Amanda as you would be of Krystal. I mean, after all, she was Babe's best friend, right? And the two of you did have something going on for a while?
J.R.: If you're sleeping with her, you can have her. This whole perfume mess is her fault anyway. When people first started getting sick, Babe wanted to have it tested, but Amanda pushed it. Then the lawsuits hit. If it hadn't have been for that, Babe would've never came back to Pine Valley, and she'd still be alive.
David: Hmm. That seems like quite the stretch, Junior, blaming Amanda for Babe's death?
J.R.: Look, Amanda is trouble. She always has been. She always will be. So if you've got her stashed upstairs, your little plaything, keep her. Nobody else wants her.
[Amanda keeps out of sight but hears everything]
Greenlee: I was just trying to help. You're hurt.
Aidan: Don't pretend you care, Greenlee, all right? I'm fine.
Ryan: We're not going to get any closer to Emma with you two going at each other, ok?
Aidan: Hey, I'm out here to help you, even after what you did to me, all right?
Greenlee: Don't do this, Aidan, please.
Aidan: You can't tell me what to do and what not to do, Greenlee. You may be married to me, but you're completely in love with him.
Ryan: So then what are you doing here? I mean, if you hate us both that much, then why are you trying to help us?
Aidan: I am here to help that little girl. She doesn't realize what a jerk she has for a father. And she has no chance in hell of being rescued, if it's not for me. I'm just doing what I'm trained to do, Ryan, which is to put my life on the line for a mission, and you've made that real easy, because I don't really have that much left to live for.
Jesse: Yeah, and then find out where the hell Ryan Lavery took off to after his wife and kid were snatched. Have you seen Natalia?
Frankie: Yeah, she's with Randi.
Jesse: Look, I know I'm still in the doghouse with you, but I've got to say I'm glad that you reached out, to her I mean.
Frankie: Well, actually, Randi reached out.
Jesse: Natalia's mother just had a seizure, Frankie, and now, your mother is in there with the oncologist with her. How long do you plan on being mad at me? Look. I made a mistake. I made lots of mistakes.
Taylor: Tell me more about you and your wife. I know that she left you, but what about before that?
Jake: No. We, uh, we went to Africa together. We wanted to work together. We joined the ever-helpful Doctors Without Borders together. And then she transferred to sluts without borders or, uh, truck drivers without pants, whatever it's called.
Taylor: Very mature, Martin.
Jake: Thank you. He was gruesome. He was not -- not a pretty guy.
Taylor: He wasn't a hot truck driver?
Jake: No, no, he was a gorilla, and he had a piece of hair that went across all the way from one side of his head to the other.
Taylor: He did not have a unibrow.
Jake: That's exactly what he had. You've seen the caveman commercials. Yes, that's what we're dealing with here.
Taylor: Hello? Hello? Who is there? Hello, is anybody there? Nobody there.
J.R.: Are we perfectly clear, Hayward? You come anywhere near Krystal, I'll rip your head off.
David: No head ripping necessary, Junior. I'm a whole new man.
David: I'm sorry you had to hear that.
Amanda: Why did it have to be Babe? J.R.'s the one who should've died.
Frankie: Hey, Tad, what's up? You track down Tim?
Frankie: And, uh, why is he so interested in Taylor?
Tad: Tim isn't the guy who hired me. He certainly isn't the guy that I met. I mean, this guy was so messed up, he could barely even talk.
Frankie: Damn, sorry to hear that.
Frankie: So, who was it?
Tad: It was another guy from your unit, a guy named Sweeney. Mike Sweeney? No, it can't be. Mike Sweeney is dead.
Tad: Are you sure?
Frankie: Positive. I'm the medic that pronounced him dead.
Angie: Let me know if anything changes.
Doctor: Will do.
Jesse: How's she doing?
Rebecca: Oh. Oh, God, Jesse.
Jesse: It's ok. I'm here.
Rebecca: Hold me. Just hold me.
David: I got rid of Tad. Now you're all mine.
Amanda: J.R. was just nice to me. Then all of a sudden, he sees my car here, and I'm trouble? I'm the reason Babe died? The jerk didn't deserve her.
David: He caused her so much pain throughout the years.
Amanda: Hey. He can't hurt her anymore, ok?
David: I miss her so much.
Amanda: I know. I do, too. It's ok. It's ok. Come here. It's ok.
Jake: I, uh, I meant what I said earlier about breaking up with Amanda. A lot -- a lot of it had to do with you.
Taylor: Jake Martin, why do you have to start getting all sappy now? I mean, you know, we're becoming friends. We're --
Frankie: There. That's Mike Sweeney.
Tad: Well, that's not the guy that I met at the V.A. Hospital.
Frankie: Why not?
Tad: For one thing, the guy that I met had, you know, severe burns over most of his head and his face.
Frankie: He say how it happened?
Tad: Yeah, an RPG hit a gas tank.
Frankie: You know, that same thing happened to a guy in my unit, but he's dead, too.
Tad: Can we get his picture? That's him. That's him. That's the guy that I met.
Frankie: No, you can't be sure. He's dead.
Tad: I'm next to positive. I could see it in his eyes. Who's this?
Frankie: That's Brot. Taylor's fiancÚ.
Ryan: Annie, thank God. Where are you?
Annie: I'm not sure. I can't talk for long. He'll be coming back.
Ryan: Ok, all right. You -- you've got to be able to tell us something, anything.
Annie: An old house by a beach. He blindfolded me. He put me on a plane. I think it's some --
Ryan: You're in Puerto Rico, Annie. We tracked you here, and we're going to find you. Is -- is -- is Emma with you? Annie, is Emma with you?
[Annie hangs up and takes a sip of her wine while luxuriating in a bubble bath]
