Ryan: Uh, yeah. I'm all done, we're all set.
Annie: What are you up to?
Annie: You did all this while I was putting the kids to bed?
Ryan: I know, I know -- it's a curse to be so wonderful.
Annie: You are wonderful.
Ryan: Well, you are my heart, Annie Lavery. Happy New Year. This one is going to be ours.
Richie: What do you want me to say, Chambers? I get the drill -- my sister knocks me off, you collect the insurance. It's going to happen when it happens, so stop bugging me. Damn it.
[Lily walks in]
Richie: Lily, what are you doing in here?
Lily: Richard, I'm visiting you. I heard you were committed
Richie: Well, good news travels fast.
Lily: Well, it is good news in a way, because now everything you've been doing makes sense.
[Dance music plays at the Yacht Club]
Jack: Good evening, Erica.
Erica: Hello, Jack. What are you doing here?
Jack: You know what? That's funny -- I was about to ask you the very same thing.
Erica: Well, obviously whoever invited me is being ridiculously shy about it.
Both: It was you, wasn't it?
Kendall: Greenlee didn't kidnap Spike. I lied to the police. I'm the one who's guilty.
Zach: Why are you doing this?
Kendall: Because someone has to end this nightmare
Zach: How, by starting another one?
Greenlee: Derek, let's just let it go. I'm not pressing charges, so --
Derek: You know I can't do that. Too many laws were broken.
Aidan: And where's the law that says enough's enough, huh? These two have been through a lot. In fact, we've all been through a lot.
Derek: I'm sorry.
Aidan: "Sorry" is not going to do anything, is it? Why don't you do the right thing?
Zach: He's doing his job, Aidan -- just talking to the wrong suspect. If you want to arrest somebody, arrest me.
Kendall: Zach, I did this.
Zach: Let me handle it.
Kendall: No! I will not let you take responsibility for something --
Zach: I want to confess --
Kendall: No, Zach.
Derek: That's enough -- everybody just zip it. I have to ask you a few questions.
Kendall: Go ahead, Derek.
Derek: Did you know about the setup?
Zach: Don't say anything to him.
Derek: I will arrest you for obstruction of justice.
Zach: That's what I'm asking you!
Greenlee: This man almost died. Let this wait!
Aidan: Oh, he can't let it wait. The law is the law, right? You got to do the right thing, huh?
Zach: Hey. We both almost died. And the people we love were going crazy looking for us. The whole situation was crazy, man. I mean, it'd make a person confess to pretty much anything.
Derek: You think you're pretty clever, don't you, Slater?
Zach: I am. But right now, I'm just trying to be fair. So either take me in or let us go -- your call.
Krystal: You know what's weird?
Tad: No -- what?
Krystal: One minute I'm asking you to help me ring in the New Year, and the next thing I know, I am flashing back to our first New Year's Eve together -- do you remember that?
Krystal: Mm-hmm. Well, then let's stop talking.
Krystal: And do what married people do
Tad: You mean start bitching at each other, order takeout, and see what's on TV?
Tad: Oh, you mean the other thing married people do -- yeah.
Tad: I -- I think I vaguely remember that, too.
Tad: So, just one more question, Mrs. Martin --
Tad: Shall we adjourn upstairs to the bedroom or would you like to get busy right here?
Colby: Tad? Krystal? Oh -- hey, guys.
Tad and Krystal: Hey!
Colby: Happy New Year!
Krystal: Happy New Year!
Tad: Happy New Year to you, too.
Colby: Hey, is there anything in the refrigerator? I'm starving.
Tad: Absolutely, sure.
Jack: Erica, I didn't invite you here tonight.
Erica: Well, I certainly didn't invite you.
Man: Excuse me. Would either of you like a drink?
Erica: Oh, we're not together.
Jack: Not at all.
Erica: No, I -- I'm waiting for another guest.
Jack: Me, too.
Man: Would you like to sit down until they get here?
Singers: Oh oh oh, oh, oh ♪
Erica: Thank you.
Singer: This is how you feel so this is how you see ♪
Jack: So you really didn't send this?
Erica: No. I mean, Jack, since when did I have to trick you into spending time with me? Lately?
Jack: Want to know what I think?
Erica: Somebody set us up.
Jack: Exactly. So who's the culprit?
Erica: Somebody obviously who wants us back together.
Jack: Hmm. Kendall?
Erica: I think she's had a little bit too much going on herself.
Jack: Yeah. Of course. I think you're right.
Erica: Well, it certainly wouldn't have been Greenlee.
Jack: No, certainly not.
Erica: Well, who, then?
Jack: I don't know -- you' think Sean would've learned his lesson last Christmas. Look at this, though -- he very specifically includes 2007 and 2008. Now, that sounds like Lily to me.
Richie: So, let me get this straight -- me being in the Psych ward makes sense to you?
Lily: It does now, yes.
Richie: Well, that makes one of us.
Lily: Well I heard you speaking of a murder, Richard.
Richie: You must've misunderstood, Lily.
Lily: No. It was -- you were in your hospital room. You were talking to that man, and you were saying how a murder was going to happen. But then, Jonathan told me that it wasn't going to take place. And sane people don't talk like that.
Richie: No, I guess they don't. I'm sorry I scared you, Lily.
Lily: It's ok. And you forgot about our date, too.
Richie: Our date? The coffee -- I am sorry. I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you, I promise, as soon as I get out of here.
Lily: When's that?
Richie: Well, ask Ryan Lavery. My brother-in-law runs the whole damn universe -- didn't you know that? When God wants to take a break, Ryan just goes in and takes over for him. Never mind -- I was just kidding.
Lily: I'm not really good with jokes. But I am really good with numbers and mysteries, especially this one. It's about a man that commits the perfect crime.
Lily: They say there's no such thing, but I think if you get everything down, every detail, that you can get away with practically anything.
Richie: Do you mind if I take a look at that? Lily, I -- I love a good mystery myself.
Ryan: To a new year full of promise.
Annie: And love.
Ryan: And family, 365 days.
Ryan: Hmm. Even better.
Annie: It will be better, Ryan. It has to be.
Ryan: Not a doubt about it. For sure it's going to be. We're going to kick that year to the curb, and we're going to start again, fresh.
Annie: Well, something wonderful did happen to me this year.
Ryan: Oh, yeah?
Annie: I married you.
Ryan: And something else wonderful came from that -- I learned how to dance.
Annie: Yes. Yes, you did. Hmm. Hmm.
Singer: I feel like I was born to love only you, only you, my love ♪
Zach: What's it going to be, Derek?
Derek: Why don't you get your stories straight?
Aidan: I think we've all done things a little on the edge to protect the people that we love, haven't we?
Derek: Oh, is that what it is?
Greenlee: What matters is that we're here, we made it home.
Zach: Spike's safe, Ian's safe, and we're home with our families -- as far as I'm concerned that's everything, and that's why we survived.
Derek: There's a whole lot of love going on in this room, but excuse me if I don't hold hands and sing "Kumbaya." All of you have abused the law -- kidnapping, courtroom escapes with a little fireworks thrown in to scare the dickens out of everybody. Running from charges. In fact, you might be the only one here, Slater, who isn't guilty of something.
Zach: I'm guilty of a lot more than you can imagine.
Derek: Well, I'm going to let you all figure out who's going to confess to what, but don't take too long or I run you all in. I'm going to be at the station. I expect someone to do the right thing.
Greenlee: So, now what?
Kendall: Zach, you should not have jumped in. I had everything under control.
Zach: You had nothing under control.
Kendall: Yes -- yes, I did.
Kendall: I -- I was taking responsibility.
Zach: Oh, ok. What about our family -- the hell with them? Spike, Ian -- you're just going to throw them away? I'm not going to let that happen. It's not going to happen.
Derek: No, just get the paperwork ready, so we can lock this thing up. They're trying to stonewall us now. But Kendall Hart Slater is the one that's responsible for this mess, and one way or the other, she's going down for it.
[Hannah overhears Derek talking on his cell phone]
Kendall: Isn't it about time someone here admitted that they were wrong?
Zach: I know what you're trying to do and it's not happening.
Kendall: Well, we'll see about that.
Greenlee: Kendall, they're right.
Kendall: Listen, you guys, you -- you may be able to erase the charges, but -- but you can't erase what I did.
Zach: Are you listening to yourself right now?
Kendall: Yes, yes, finally I am.
Greenlee: But don't do this for me. We all know that I did take Spike that first time. There's more than enough guilt to go around.
Kendall: You don't know. You have no idea.
Greenlee: Know what?
Kendall: The things that I've done to betray you, things that I will never be able to forgive myself for.
Zach: What are you talking about?
Aidan: She's just upset, aren't you?
Zach: I know she's upset -- that's obvious.
Greenlee: Wait -- what things? I -- I don't understand. Is -- is there something else? Is there something we don't know?
Colby: Forbidden City is playing New Year's at this great new night club on 14th Street.
Krystal and Tad: Great.
Tad: You don't want to miss that.
Colby: Yeah. You want a bite?
Tad: I'm driving.
Colby: All right. I just hope Dre shows up, though.
Tad: What do you mean? He's playing a gig, isn't he?
Colby: I don't think so. Some guy came looking for him today, and then he just left.
Krystal: That doesn't sound good.
Tad: Well, what did this guy look like?
Colby: He was some investigator? Dre said it was a family thing. I know, but you guys should come check it out. Corrina's really an awesome singer.
Tad: Oh, I -- no, not tonight.
Krystal: Uh, no, thank you.
Tad: I'm not really up for it.
Colby: You guys didn't have any plans, did you?
Tad: Oh -- you know, God forbid.
Colby: You know, I still cannot get used to you guys being married.
Krystal: Ha-ha. The world's gone crazy.
Colby: It's not like a real marriage, though, you know?
Tad: Not yet.
Krystal: No, no, no. There's really nothing real about it.
Colby: Huh. Ok, um, I'm off. I got to go get ready.
Tad: Now what?
Krystal: Well, I guess now we just have to wait in a holding pattern until the young ones go out and have a good time, I guess.
Tad: I knew it, I knew it. I could've put money on it. So, what is it going to be, huh? Pizza or Chinese?
Krystal: Look, we know why we got married, right?
Tad: Yeah -- to keep Adam away from Jenny.
Krystal: Right. But I meant what I said -- I want this to be real, you know? I want to be your wife. And I'll be damned if I'm going to spend my first New Year's Eve with my husband sitting here watching you watch the ball drop, if you know what I mean.
[Tad and Krystal chuckles as they kiss]
[Tad laughs when Krystal breaks a vase by throwing a flashlight at it]
Tad: Oh, that was -- that was -- that was great. You sure know how to seduce a guy.
Krystal: Well, who needs cable?
Ryan: Hey. It's the new year, Annie, so why don't we try to think about all the possibilities and not about what stands in our way?
Annie: Richie will be released soon, Ryan. It -- it's going to start all over again.
Ryan: No, actually, it won't.
Singer: It's all so clear ♪
Annie: What do you mean?
Ryan: Well, I've been talking to people and it turns out they are just as concerned about Richie's mental health as we are.
Annie: Who's "they"?
Ryan: People who would like to have a brand-new Psych ward, people who would like to have funding for that ward.
Annie: And you wrote them a check?
Ryan: Yeah. I like to think of it as an investment in our own mental health. I mean, come on -- what good is money if you can't use it for good, right? And it's not like I did anything wrong, and it's not like I lied. I mean, Richie is sick -- he belongs there.
Singer: So good you know ♪
Richie: So, how'd he get away with this perfect crime?
Lily: I don't want to spoil it for you, but it's fiendishly clever.
Richie: Sounds like kind of story. How many of these murder mysteries have you read, Lily?
Richie: Wow. Uh --
[Richie groans as he stands up]
Richie: Te me something -- have you ever read a murder mystery where the murderer really wasn't a murderer at all?
Lily: I don't understand.
Richie: Let's say he wants to blame the crime on someone else. How would he devise a plan to do that?
Erica: So Lily is our cheerleader, huh?
Singer: Oh ♪
Jack: Looks like it.
Erica: Huh. Too bad we have to disappoint her this time.
Jack: Erica, look --
Erica: No -- oh, no, no, no. Jack, we do not need to go into all the whys and wherefores of how we got here. I mean, we're not together anymore and -- and I accept that. And Lily will, too, eventually.
Singer: Give myself away ♪
Erica: Happy New Year.
Singer: I know down deep ♪
Greenlee: Kendall? What is it?
Kendall: I don't know. Uh -- I'm just --
Zach: You're exhausted and you're emotional. It's all right. In a way, you two had it worse. I mean, we knew what we were facing, but you? You had no idea what you were going to find. It must've been horrible for you -- I'm sorry.
Kendall: Yeah, yeah. It -- it was awful, Zach.
Aidan: But the only way to get past it is to keep on moving forward, leave the past in the past. Otherwise, the wounds won't heal.
Kendall: Right. Right, you're right. I'm sorry.
Zach: Stop apologizing. Why do you keep apologizing?
Greenlee: Yeah, seriously, if you apologize again, I'm going to have to slap you.
Zach: And she knows how to slap somebody, believe me.
Greenlee: That was before I tolerated you.
Zach: Well, we had to get through it, didn't we?
Greenlee: Yeah. Didn't have a choice.
Kendall: Well, you two became close. I'm glad.
Zach: So, we ok?
Kendall: Yeah. Yeah, I'm good -- you know what? I'm -- I need to breathe. I have to go get some air, so I -- I'm not going anywhere. I'm not leaving.
Zach: Did I say anything? I trust you, jeez.
Greenlee: Babe, can you just get me a turkey sandwich or something that is not hospital food, please?
Aidan: Turkey sandwich, coming right up.
Greenlee: Thank you. Great -- alone at last. Huh. You know, you don't have to worry about Kendall. She knows what she has to lose.
Zach: What about you?
Zach: Ahem. I'm watching you, and you're struggling for breath.
Greenlee: No -- it's -- it's my panic attacks, you know? You'd think that now that I'm out of the bunker, they'd be over.
Zach: You sure that's all it is?
Greenlee: Yeah, positive. You know, now at least if I have one, you know what to do.
Hannah: That's right. Zach always knows what to do.
Kendall: What do you want?
Aidan: That's a good question. Is it not obvious?
Kendall: Aidan? I -- I let Zach shut me up again. It's wrong, this is wrong.
Aidan: Kendall, listen. I know you feel guilty, all right? I know you're desperate to tell the truth, but --
Kendall: I'm -- I'm responsible for what happened to Greenlee. Isn't this what you wanted?
Aidan: Well, I told you that sacrificing yourself is not going to fix this. I mean, will admitting -- will admitting that you set up Greenlee, will that finally do it for you? Is that going to take care of all the guilt, or do I have to worry that you're going to say that we slept together?
Kendall: You and me -- it never happened, and we agreed we would never talk about it again.
Aidan: So what was that in there, then? Because it sure as hell looked like to me that you wanted Zach and Greenlee to know.
Kendall: Aidan, I betrayed my husband. You cheated on Greenlee. While the people that we love were trapped fighting for their lives, we thought it was a good time to get it on.
Aidan: Kendall, we -- Kendall, that's not how it happened, and you know it.
Kendall: Yes, yes, I know. I understand that we were scared, and we were afraid, and we were desperate, blah, blah, blah. I know all of that. It doesn't matter. It doesn't change the facts.
Aidan: Well, how far -- how far are you going to take this confession, huh? How much of the truth are you going to tell?
Kendall: Are you worried about you and Greenlee?
Aidan: No, I'm worried about all of us. Look, telling the truth might make you feel better, but it's going to make them feel a hell of a lot worse.
Kendall: Ok, so now I'm being selfish?
Aidan: It's kind of selfish, yeah, to do that. Some things are better left unsaid.
Kendall: Zach and Greenlee fought so hard. They were strong and brave and determined to get out alive. Why? So that -- so -- so they could get back to us, Aidan -- us. Because they loved us.
Aidan: Yeah, and we love them. We love them.
Kendall: Ok. Well, I don't deserve that kind of love, not after all I've done.
Zach: Hannah, what brings you here?
Hannah: I came by to see how you were doing. There's a lot of commotion out there.
Zach: We're doing fine. Thanks for coming.
Hannah: They said Kendall was in trouble. Is there anything I can do to help?
Zach: Kendall is fine. We'll talk at the office, ok?
Hannah: Well -- um -- forgive the intrusion.
Zach: I appreciate you coming by, and thanks for being concerned, and we'll -- we'll talk soon, all right?
Greenlee: I -- are you always so charming with your old girlfriends?
Zach: Oh, don't be jealous. How do you know about Hannah?
Greenlee: Oh, Zach, you're not as mysterious as you'd like to think you are.
Zach: I'm extremely mysterious. Did you hear the one about the Pope and the --
Greenlee: No jokes. No more jokes.
Zach: I thought you liked my jokes.
Greenlee: Yes, but I was a captive audience.
Zach: And you still are. And I meant what I said. I will protect you and Kendall, both.
Greenlee: I know. You know, when Kendall finally confessed, it -- when she told me about the kidnapping -- it was so hard.
Zach: Well, it shouldn't have happened.
Greenlee: I just -- I never wanted to hear that she wanted to hurt me so much.
Zach: She loves you.
Greenlee: So you think we're ok now? You and me and Aidan and Kendall, and -- oh, it's hot in here, huh?
Zach: I don't think so.
Greenlee: Can you get me my water? I don't --
Zach: Greenlee, what's going on?
Greenlee: I just -- I don't feel --
Zach: Greenlee? We need some help in here!
Erica: What is it, Jack?
Jack: Sit down. Please.
Erica: All right, if you insist.
Jack: Our families are alive, and they're safe, and I think we should celebrate that, together.
Erica: Do you think we can trust ourselves to be civilized?
Jack: Yeah, I think so. It's only one toast.
Erica: There is one thing I would like to sort out about our recent troubles, if you don't mind.
Jack: Go ahead.
Erica: The day that you told me you don't love me anymore --
Jack: Erica --
Erica: No, please hear me out.
Jack: Sure. I'm sorry. Go on.
Erica: Our marriage may have come to an end, but we will always love each other. And you know that as well as I do. We've been through way too much together, and we know each other way too well for that love to just wither and die. With you -- well, you were the first man I really ever thought that I could trust. I never thought that would happen. I mean, not after my father. So, no matter what happens, we will be in each other's lives for the duration. We're destined to need each other. We're fated to love each other. And you can't look me in the eye and tell me that you don't feel that, too.
Singer: You know you're all that I've ever had ♪
Jack: You are one of a kind, that's for sure.
Erica: And you're going to miss me. I may provide a bumpy ride once in a while, but I'm worth it.
Singer: I'm going to see sunshine come around, yeah ♪
Jack: You're right, Erica. I will always care about you. And yes -- I will always love you.
Singers: Together again ♪
Richie: Couldn't think of one, huh?
Lily: Well, no, but I think it would be relatively easy to set someone up for a crime.
Richie: How so?
Lily: Well, first, you would have to give them a motive.
Lily: And then plant the evidence, of course.
Richie: Makes sense.
Lily: But above all, you would have to make the plan simple. A lot of criminals confuse themselves with too many details. I'm really good with details. I'd be a good criminal.
Richie: Hmm, I don't think so, Lily. You're too honest.
Lily: Yeah, you're right. Telling the truth would probably be a liability in that line of work.
Richie: Well, thanks for the book and the visit.
Lily: Do you want me to come by another time?
Richie: Sure, anytime, and I haven't forgot about that date.
Richie: Keep it simple, Richard. That's what you got to do -- keep it simple.
Annie: So you made a donation to keep Richie locked up?
Ryan: Yes, the tax write-off was far too good to pass up.
Annie: Some people might call that a bribe, Mr. Lavery.
Ryan: You know what? I can think of better things to do than talk about me, or Richie. Especially Richie.
Annie: Well --
Annie: How about we not talk at all?
[Ryan and Annie remove their clothing as they kiss then get horizontal in front of the roaring fire]
Singer: I know it's hard to count on anything, because no one knows just what tomorrow brings. Still, here we are. We've shared so many years. We've come this far, there's nothing to fear. You will see, you and me, will always be, you will see ♪
[Tad and Krystal quickly stop kissing]
Colby: Krystal? Are you guys ok?
Colby: You look kind of weird.
Tad: Oh, no, just terrific. Have fun.
Krystal: Yeah. Huh.
Colby: Do I have curfew?
Tad: Uh -- well, it's, you know, New Year's, so try not to get in trouble.
Tad: Works for me, yeah.
Colby: What? Did you guys get married, or go crazy?
Tad: A little bit of both.
Colby: You know what my New Year's wish is? For all this crazy stuff to go away. Do you think that's too much to ask?
Krystal: Have fun.
Tad: Somebody say something about fun? Hmm.
[Tad and Krystal resume kissing until Jenny starts crying]
Aidan: Look, you don't -- you don't think I feel guilty? Because I do, all right? I wish it never happened, but it did. But, Kendall, it happened out of grief, all right? We -- we thought they were gone.
Kendall: Yes, but they're not. They're back.
Aidan: We never stopped loving them, all right? So focus on that.
Kendall: How do I look my husband in the eye? How do I -- how do I listen to him tell me stories about seeing pictures of -- of our family in his phone and thinking that was the last time he would ever see us?
Aidan: Don't -- don't do that to yourself.
Kendall: No, Aidan, I wish that we had survived the way that Greenlee and Zach did -- by being faithful. What?
Nurse: Your friend is with Dr. Martin. He says you better come.
Joe: Her blood glucose is 30. It's very low.
Zach: What is it supposed to be?
Joe: Between 60 and 100.
Aidan: Greenlee? What's wrong? What happened?
Zach: She passed out.
Joe: Was she hyperventilating?
Zach: No, she said she was hot and then she fainted.
Kendall: Is she going to be ok?
Joe: Push D-50. I'm injecting a strong IV sugar.
Aidan: Greenlee? Greenlee? Greenlee, can you hear me?
Zach: What happened?
Joe: Probably hypoglycemia.
Kendall: Are you sure she's going to be ok?
Joe: Mm-hmm, yeah. Greenlee's going to be all right.
Greenlee: How is my best buddy?
Kendall: I'm here. I'm right here.
[Music plays as Kendall covers her sleeping husband with a blanket]
Singer: Yesterday he said my eyes, we're fading fast away, I said, "Well, what do you expect?" ♪
Kendall: I love you.
Singer: You asked me not to stay ♪
Kendall: And I'm sorry I have to do this.
[As Grace and the Nocturnals sings "Apologies," Erica and Jack smile across the table as they sip their champagne, Ryan and Annie make love, and Richie stares at Lily's phone number smiling]
Singer: I wouldn't feel this way he said, and he said he said it's crazy how love stays with me, yeah. I know when it hurts me 'cause I don't wanna fight this war, and it's amazing to see me reading through this scene of love and fear and apologies, apologies. My love is like a blanket that gets a little bit too warm. Sometimes I want to wrap somebody in it who can hold me in his arms, 'cause when it got little too hot in there, he was always stepping out for air, and he froze ♪
Richie: Hey, sis, it's me. Just calling to wish you a Happy New Year. I hope you get everything you wish for. I know I will.
Singer: And he says it's crazy when love stays with me, yeah. I know when it hurts me, 'cause I don't wanna fight this war, and it's amazing to see me reading through this scene of love and fear and apologies, apologies ♪
[After enjoying a beer, Krystal takes the TV remote away from Tad and regales him with a big kiss as he dips her to a horizontal position on the couch]
Singer: Yesterday he looked at me with a tear in his eyes he said, "I'll always tell you you're my friend" ♪
[Hannah's answering machine beeps]
Tad's voice: Hey, Hannah, listen, it's Tad. Um -- I don't know whether or not you've heard about Krystal and me, uh, so -- wow, I think -- I think we should talk, so -- so call me, or come over.
Hannah: Talk about what, Tad? Being dismissed again? No. I don't think so.
[As Hannah leafs through her Zach scrapbook, Aidan lies next to Greenlee in her hospital bed, and Kendall walks into the police station.]
Singer: How love stays with me, yeah. You know and it hurts me 'cause I don't wanna fight this war, and it's amazing to see me reading through this scene of love and fear and apologies. He says it's crazy how love stays with me, yeah, you know, and it hurts me that I didn't figure it out before, and now it's too late for a soliloquy, way too late for dignity, it's time for apologies, apologies, apologies ♪
Kendall: Derek -- I set Greenlee up. I called the police, and I stole chloroform from the hospital. I made it look like Greenlee did it. It was my idea. All mine.
[Kendall gets fingerprinted and photographed as she is booked at the PVPD]

Adam: What's this?
Hannah: Zach's head on a platter, just like you asked.
