Ryan: How's Richie?
Julia: He's still in pretty rough shape. He has a visitor.
Richie: Hmm. Hmm. What's the line? "Died and went to heaven"?
Babe: Well, you're still here on earth, and believe me, I'm no angel.
Richie: Hmm. How'd it go with J.R.?
Babe: Um -- J.R. was arrested for the hit-and-run on Zach Slater. He's in jail.
Annie: Daddy --
Walter: Why so sad? Richie is dying. I thought you'd be happy about it -- both of you.
Jack: Just tell me, what the hell were you thinking?
Erica: I was trying to help you find your daughter.
Jack: Erica, it's bad enough that her photograph is in every post office between here and Canada now, thanks to you, she's fair game for any nut job with a gun who wants to see his name in the paper.
Erica: Oh, that is not at all what I did. Ok, yes, she is a fugitive, but isn't it more important that we find her and make sure that she's safe?
Jack: Erica, what you did was you hung a target on her, stood back and yelled "fire away."
Kendall: What am I doing? This is ridiculous. Derek? Derek, hey -- hey, it's Kendall. Listen, I haven't heard anything from Zach, and I was wondering if you did. Nothing? Well, have you -- I know, I know you're working. I know you're trying as hard as you can, I know that. Have you -- have you leaned any harder on J.R. to see if he remembers anything? Ok, well -- well, what about the hospital? Have you checked the hospital? Well, have you double-checked? I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Derek. It's just that this is my husband that we're talking about, ok? Yes, I'm trying not to worry, but -- ok, but he's got to be out there somewhere, all right? He didn't just -- he's there, ok? I know he's out there. He didn't just disappear into thin air!
Greenlee: Tell me why Kendall didn't confess. If she was going to clear my name, why didn't she?
Zach: Because I wouldn't let her.
Greenlee: You bastard! She wanted to do the right thing? She wanted to admit to framing me, and you wouldn't let her?
Zach: Never even considered it.
Greenlee: Don't you get it? Don't you see? If you wouldn't have interfered, we wouldn't be in this mess. We would never have ended up in this godforsaken hellhole in the first place.
Zach: I thought you were Kendall.
Greenlee: Yeah, you were delirious, I played along. I thought maybe I could get some truth out of you. Guess what -- it worked. Zach, if you would have let Kendall confess like she wanted to, I would never have had to escape. I wouldn't be stuck here, trapped here with you!
Greenlee: Wow. Kendall was going to risk her future to take back what she did to me. She still cares about our friendship. Yeah, I did that. I sewed up your head, tried to save your sorry life. I'm such an idiot. I should have let you die. Hey! I'm talking to you!
Zach: Never noticed that before.
Greenlee: It's cobwebs, Zach.
Zach: Uh-uh. Look -- look up there.
Greenlee: What is that?
Kendall: I know. Daddy isn't home yet, and Mommy's acting a little weird. Mommy doesn't really know what she's doing right now, but we will get through this together. I promise. Here's an idea. You know what? Why don't you come with me? That's right. You guys can watch, and you can cheer me on. We'll do this together. Ok. Yeah. This is called -- whew -- it's called creative therapy. It's what you do to help you with your troubles and get your mind off of things. It helps you cope. Right, Mother? Right. All right. Ok, where were we? Whew. Coffee -- I need more coffee. Coffee would help. That's what I'm going to do.
Kendall: Who is it?
Kendall: What? Oh. Hi. I -- I wasn't expecting anything. Who's it from?
Delivery Man: Zach Slater.
Kendall: Oh, my God.
Erica: Jack, you are not being fair. No matter what I think of Greenlee, I don't want to put her in danger.
Jack: Ok, ok, let's -- let's just say that you meant well. But this -- this was not the way to do this.
Erica: Well, Jack, I mean, it's not as if my viewers watch "New Beginnings" on the vigilante network.
Jack: Ok, you want to do spin control, you do that. Me, I'm going to go try to find my daughter.
Erica: Jack, I'm not the enemy. Why do you do this? Why do you think so poorly of me? Why can't you think better of me? Why is it you always think the worst?
Jack: Erica, I would love to think well of you. I have tried time and time again.
Erica: Well, can you please try a little harder, for us?
Jack: No, no. Don't make this about us. This is about my daughter.
Erica: Jack, you know very well that this has become about us. And isn't it our daughter? I mean, isn't that what we always said? Look, I know that we're divorced now, but -- I know that -- I know that Greenlee and I have never been on the best of terms.
Jack: Wow. I just -- huh. My daughter's missing, and you're standing there using her as a bargaining chip as a way to get us back together. That's what this whole show was about, wasn't it? This was a ploy.
Erica: What? There you go again. Why do you always think the worst of me?
Jack: Why the hell wouldn't I? What -- what do you expect me to think, Erica? Do you ever listen to the stuff that comes out of your mouth? You think of Greenlee as family? That is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard!
Ryan: We weren't expecting to see you, Mr. Novak.
Walter: Of course not. You didn't call. Had to hear about it from the hospital. I took the first plane out. I care about Richie.
Annie: His leukemia -- did you know about it?
Walter: He wrote to me about it when he was in prison.
Annie: And you couldn't tell me? Even after I went to see you?
Walter: Richie didn't want me to.
Annie: So do you blame me for this, as well? Did I make Richie sick?
Walter: You would if you could.
Ryan: I cannot believe you are talking to your daughter like that.
Walter: You don't know her like I do.
Ryan: You don't know her at all.
Babe: And with Zach still missing --
Babe: I'm sorry. I don't mean to be dumping all this on you.
Richie: Oh, no, no. Keep my mind off this place. So, J.R. doesn't remember anything?
Babe: No. No, just that he'd been drinking, and whatever else happened, it's all blacked out. They found blood in J.R.'s car -- Zach's. They think that J.R. moved him there after he hit him.
Richie: Well, maybe J.R. took him somewhere -- a hospital.
Babe: No. No, they have checked all the hospitals. There is nobody there matching Zach's description.
Richie: Well, the police could be wrong. I am barely living proof of that.
Babe: Yeah, maybe you should be J.R.'s attorney. I don't know -- there was more than just Zach's blood. The front end of J.R.'s car was damaged. There was paint matching Zach's car door. And there was a photo on the road near where it happened. It was a photo of J.R. with me and Little A. J.R. always kept it in his glove compartment.
Richie: I'd hate to be in J.R.'s shoes.
Richie: Thank you.
Richie: Have you told your son anything yet?
Babe: I honestly don't know if I could find the right words to say, you know? He -- he looks up to his dad so much.
Richie: Yeah. A dad you can count on is important.
Walter: It's good to see you again, Dr. Chambers.
Michael: Likewise, Mr. Novak.
Annie: My dad always gets to me. Every time. Who is that?
Ryan: It's the prison shrink who let Richie out on parole.
Annie: What's he doing here?
Ryan: I was just wondering the same thing. Wait here.
Walter: Richie wouldn't have had this time out of prison if not for you. Thank you for that.
Michael: I was glad to be able to help.
Ryan: You were glad that you traveled all this way to make a house call?
Michael: Mr. Lavery -- ahem.
Ryan: Let me ask you something. Do you go to this distance for all your patients, Doctor?
Michael: The ones who are worth it. I was having a conversation with Mr. Novak. Do you mind?
Ryan: No, not at all. Go ahead, knock yourself out.
Annie: What did he say?
Ryan: Not a lot, but I smell a rat.
Erica: Jack -- fighting won't solve anything here. Can't we please just put it aside for once?
Jack: And do what?
Erica: And work together, as a team. You know how well we do that.
Jack: So when you broadcast Greenlee's photograph nationally without consulting me, this was your idea of teamwork?
Erica: I told you, Jack, I was trying to help Greenlee.
Jack: Were you trying to help Greenlee when you forged her mother's signature on her commitment papers?
Erica: I admit, I made some mistakes. I shouldn't have done that, Jack, I swear. I wish I could go back and change the past, but I can't. The only thing we can do now is focus on the now. Focus on making things right, now.
Jack: I've got an idea. Do you want to help my daughter? Why don't we get your daughter in here, and she can confess on the air. We could have a "New Beginnings" where Kendall comes in and admits that she framed my daughter Greenlee for a crime she didn't commit.
Erica: Kendall in prison? That's your solution? I guess you'd like me to join her there?
Jack: Oh -- I tell you I'm worried sick about my daughter, and you make it all about you. What you need, what you want. I'm not going to do this, Erica, I'm not. You know, a couple of days ago, I couldn't imagine anything worse than seeing my daughter in that jail cell. But now, I go from moment to moment wondering if she's even still alive. And the scenarios, the terrible things that go on in my head that could have happened to her. And then I'm sure that the next time the phone rings, it's going to be somebody telling me that one of those things has happened, that it's come true.
Erica: Jack, we have got to just keep on hoping for the best. We have to believe that -- that Greenlee will be found and she'll be ok.
Jack: You know this didn't help.
Erica: Well, then let's think of something better -- together, because I'm sure that if we work on this together, Jack, we can find Greenlee. We can bring her back.
Jack: "Back"? Back to where? Back to the jail cell your daughter put her in?
Kendall: Ordered last week, before he disappeared. "Had this made for you. You're as beautiful as the night sky. I see moonlight in your hair and stars in your eyes, even when the sun is out. Love, Zach."
Kendall: Hmm. I love you, too, Zach. Please come home to us. Please.
Greenlee: Slow, slow, slow.
Zach: Whew. Looks like some kind of a ladder or something, doesn't it?
Greenlee: You think?
Zach: How long was I out?
Greenlee: Um -- long enough for me to get the truth.
Zach: By pretending to be Kendall.
Greenlee: Well, it worked. You were convinced.
Zach: Must have been some kind of a fever, because I wouldn't think that in my right mind.
Greenlee: You know, when you told me that Kendall was going to confess, that wasn't your fever talking.
Zach: Excuse me. You want to get out of here or not? Let's see.
Greenlee: Watch out.
Zach: What did I tell you?
Greenlee: Who designed this place? A ladder you can't even reach? What -- what good is this going to do? Zach -- oh.
Zach: We'll get up there.
Greenlee: How? You expect me to sprout some wings?
Zach: No, I expect you to be quiet for one minute. We're going to build something.
Greenlee: Yeah. Um -- that's not going to work. Remember -- the elevator I tried to make out of spare parts?
Zach: Maybe I'll have better luck.
Greenlee: You're such a man. If we even get out of here, I doubt you'll ask directions back to civilization --
Zach: What'd I just ask you? Please.
Greenlee: I already looked in there and there's no magic tool box.
Zach: Well, there's a rope. I'm going to tie it off.
Greenlee: And then what -- you going to climb up? You can't even stand on your own two feet.
Zach: You got a better idea?
Greenlee: Yeah -- I'll do it. I'm lighter. Get it ready, I'll climb.
Zach: Yeah, you're pretty banged up yourself.
Greenlee: So it'll hurt a little. If it means getting out of here away from you, bring on the pain. Come on, we don't have all day.
[Music plays as Kendall stares at photos of her family and scribbles in a pad]
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals sing "Apologies": Yesterday he said my eyes were fading fast away I said, "Well, what do you expect? You asked me not to stay" and if it had all been for the best I wouldn't feel this way he said and he said he said it's crazy how love stays with me yeah you know, and it hurts me 'cause I don't want to fight this war and it's amazing to see me reading through this scene of love and fear
Singer: And apologies ♪
Erica: Look, Jack, can't we just please work on this together? To bring her back first?
Jack: Erica, there is no "we" anymore.
Erica: I know you don't mean that.
Jack: Huh. What is it with you? I mean, is this -- is this a matter of being in denial or is it just arrogance, or what? I mean, how do I get you to believe that I mean what I say? I don't want your help. More than that, I don't want you in my life. You and I are finished -- I told you that at the house, but you just refuse to listen.
Erica: I know you told me that. And I didn't believe it then, and I don't believe it now.
Jack: And you didn't believe that I had stopped loving you.
Jack: When I said those words, when I heard them come out of my mouth, I knew they were the truth. I don't love you anymore. Whatever you and I had is gone. And I'm going to make sure it stays that way.
[Kendall's phone rings]
Babe: Sharing a child with J.R. was complicated even before this. Now, I'm --
Julia: Go on. I just need to update his chart.
Babe: No, that's ok. I should be going.
Richie: Yeah, you got a full -- full plate.
Babe: Well, I'll come by as often as I can, but, you know, Little A really needs me now.
Richie: It's ok.
Babe: You rest up and get better, ok?
Richie: Hey, a little pneumonia. Huh.
Julia: I need to listen to your lungs.
Babe: Seriously, Richie, you need your strength.
Richie: You, too.
Babe: You take care.
Richie: Hey, Dad. You flew in!
Walter: Of course, I did, as soon as I heard.
Richie: You remember Babe.
Babe: It's nice to see you again, Mr. Novak.
Walter: You, too. Richie told me what a good friend you have been. Thank you. Richie needs good friends.
Julia: Oh, Doctor. Oh, good, I'm glad I ran into you. You ought to look at this.
Doctor: Are you -- are you sure about all this?
Julia: Yeah, I'm positive.
Doctor: All right, let me have a look.
Ryan: Julia, mind if I ask you a question?
Julia: Uh -- oh. Yeah, sure, Ryan, if it's quick.
Ryan: Richie's prison psychiatrist -- why was he called to Pine Valley?
Julia: What -- who?
Ryan: Dr. Chambers. He said he flew here after hearing about Richie.
Julia: Well, he didn't hear it from us.
Ryan: Are you sure?
Julia: Yeah, absolutely. We called Richie's father and Babe, because he asked us to, but his former psychiatrist -- no. That is strictly against policy. Uh -- I'm really sorry, Ryan. I'm running a little behind, so --
Ryan: Yeah, ok, sure. What the hell are you doing here?
Kendall: I'm on a roll, guys. Bear with me.
Erica: Kendall? I saw your car -- I know you're in there.
[Knock on door]
Erica: Kendall, it's me! Open the door.
[Erica takes out her key and opens the front door]
Erica: Oh, thank God -- thank God. You're here, I was so worried. Why didn't you open the door?
Kendall: I -- I was napping. I was trying to, actually.
Erica: Napping? I never thought about that -- I mean, with everything that's going on.
Kendall: Mother, I'm fine, ok? Honestly, I am. Actually, I -- I was relaxing and you should try that sometime.
Erica: Well, then have you heard something? You've heard from Zach?
Kendall: No. No, I haven't, but I'm trying to stay positive.
Erica: Well, I can certainly understand that. But do you really think that being locked in here with the shades drawn is the way to do that? Where are the boys?
Kendall: They're in the nursery with Rachael. I think they were trying to nap also until you woke up the entire neighborhood.
Erica: Well, I'm sorry. I was just really worried about you.
Kendall: Jack. You had another fight with Jack.
Ryan: Come here.
Julia: I don't care that you couldn't find the health card. A patient with symptoms like that -- you admit them to triage and work out the paperwork later.
Jack: So what's a pretty nurse like you doing in a place --
Julia: Can you just see that I'm in the middle of something here? Oh- oh, Jack, I'm sorry.
Jack: It's ok, it's ok.
Julia: It's the shift from hell, and it's almost over, thankfully.
Jack: Yeah, I've kind of had a day like that myself.
Julia: I heard that the police have stepped up the search for Greenlee.
Jack: No sign of her anywhere.
Julia: Is there anything I can do?
Jack: Actually, yes, which is why I'm here. Aidan wants to take a look at her health records. He wants to compare them, do a little cross-checking to see if there's been any admissions in local hospitals here, see if the police might have missed anything.
Julia: I'll see what I can do.
Doctor: Well, your temperature's down and so is the congestion in your lungs. Actually, all the other readings have improved, too, just over the past few hours.
Richie: And you said you weren't an angel -- ahem.
Walter: He's going to get better, then -- from the pneumonia?
Doctor: Uh -- well, this has no bearing on the leukemia, but as far as the pneumonia's concerned, yes, I think it looks very promising.
Richie: Ha-ha. Batting cages, here I come.
Doctor: No, I wouldn't go that far yet. I still want to run a few more tests, so if you two don't mind --
Babe: Oh. Yes, privacy, privacy -- of course.
Doctor: Yeah. Thank you.
Walter: This is what happens when someone is pulling for you.
Babe: I'll walk you out, Mr. Novak.
Walter: Walter. Call me Walter.
Richie: If I live long enough, this will still work.
Walter: It's not what you think. I am -- the way he is around you. I haven't seen him that happy in a long time. I thought I wouldn't see him again.
Corrina: Ok, Emma, here we are.
Emma: Why are you so sad, mister?
Walter: He's doing better.
Annie: Thank you for babysitting, Corrina.
Corrina: Yeah, it pays more than my band makes.
Emma: Do you know the sad man, Mommy?
Annie: Uh -- yeah, sweetheart. Um -- this is Uncle Richie's daddy.
Emma: Then he's your daddy, too.
Annie: That's right, sweetie.
Emma: Then you're my grandpa.
Doctor: Ok. I'll be right back, all right?
[Michael sneaks into Richie's room]
Greenlee: Ok. All right, help me up before I lose my nerve.
Zach: Before I do any of that, how do I know you're coming back with help?
Greenlee: Huh -- you don't. But you're a gambling man, and I'm betting you like these odds better than just being cooped up down here with me.
Zach: With you -- yeah, absolutely right.
Greenlee: That's good, Zach -- butter me up.
Zach: You ready?
Zach: Come on.
Greenlee: Ok, ok, ok, ok.
Zach: Give me your foot.
Greenlee: Wait, wait, wait. All right -- go. Oh -- oh.
Zach: Keep going up.
Julia: Thank you.
Jack: So, any luck?
Julia: Yeah -- I should be able to get Greenlee's records, but it could take a while. Can you wait
Jack: Actually, I have to -- I have to meet a client at ConFusion.
Julia: Oh. ConFusion's on my way home. I can bring you the records. Buy me a drink, we'll call it even.
Jack: You got yourself a deal.
Annie: That's right, sweetheart. This is your grandfather, Walter Novak. Dad, this is my daughter, Emma.
Walter: My granddaughter.
Emma: I always wanted a grandpa.
Ryan: Yes, this is Bret Carter with the State Psychiatric Board returning Dr. Chambers' call. Really? He's out for the day? Because he said it was very urgent. I see. Don't bother -- I'll give him a call back later. Thank you very much. So, he calls in sick and then hops on the next plane. What are you up to, Chambers?
Michael: You gave us quite a scare there, Richie. When I heard you might not make it, I had to come by and see for myself.
Richie: Why am I not surprised?
Michael: Turns out it's just a false alarm, though -- right? I heard a couple of the nurses talking.
Richie: Sounds like I'll probably shake this pneumonia if that's what you mean.
Michael: You know exactly what I mean, Richie. Your dying of pneumonia wasn't part of our deal, now, was it?
Erica: Kendall, I came here, because I'm concerned about you. This has nothing to do with Jack, and what are you doing locked up inside here?
Kendall: I told you I was resting.
Kendall: Ok, I wasn't just resting. I have been calling Derek over and over again, and he has gotten no word, so I am -- I am scared out of my mind, and I'm exhausted. So I called Rachael, and I had her come over here to -- to look over the boys for a while so I can get a little relaxation and peace and quiet.
Erica: Relaxation --
Kendall: And that's all I want. I want relaxation and peace and quiet, please.
Erica: Peace and quiet? Who are you, and what have you done with my daughter?
Kendall: Mother, don't start with me now, please.
Erica: We do not sit in the house and wait for things to happen. You come with me. We are going to go find Zach ourselves. Come with me!
Greenlee: Oh! Ugh!
Zach: You're doing great. Keep going.
Greenlee: Oh, God! That's easy for you to say.
Zach: Don't look down.
Greenlee: Now he tells me.
Zach: Ok. Just calm down -- shh. Just take a breath, relax. Focus on getting out of here.
Greenlee: I'm going to fall and break every bone in my body.
Zach: You -- you're not going to fall. Just -- try.
Greenlee: I am trying!
Zach: Try harder! You said you want to get out of here and away from me -- act like you mean it.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Kendall: You hold Zach responsible for Greenlee being arrested -- you want him dead.
Richie: Your little threats -- they don't mean a thing. I'm calling the shots.
