Ryan: I got a call. Richie's here, something about pneumonia?
Babe: Yeah, he's really sick.
Ryan: So it's true?
Babe: Richie might die, Ryan -- is that good enough or do you need more proof? Maybe Richie will stop breathing soon -- would that work for you?
Ryan: Where's Annie?
Annie: You want me to kill you?
Richie: Me dead, you happy. Go on, Annie, do it. You know you want to.
J.R.: Dad. What are you doing here?
Adam: Looking for you.
J.R.: That's great. Just get yourself a drink.
Adam: I heard you came up against some trouble.
J.R.: Oh, you heard about that, huh?
J.R.: Ahem. Me plowing into Slater?
Adam: Don't worry about it, son. Everything's going to be all right.
J.R.: You make it sound like you mean it. But I think this time your son's gone too far. I don't think there's anything you're going to be able to do about it. I'm facing a felony charge, Dad. And if I'm real lucky, I'm going down for murder.
Aidan: Hi, I'm looking for a missing woman. I found her cell phone on the road near here, thought she might've passed this way. Have you seen her?
Aidan: This conversation is not over.
Greenlee: Zach -- Zach, please, you can't do this to me. Oh, damn it. Oh, no, you're just -- oh, you're on fire. Zach, please, please, just wake up, talk to me, or don't talk to me. Yell at me, or tell me I ruined your dinner -- anything, just -- you can't -- you can't leave me here alone.
Aidan: One more time -- this woman is missing, have you seen her?
Man: Get the hell off of my property.
Aidan: This guy needs to learn some manners.
[Aidan knocks down the door and faces a rifle]
Man: Beat it or I'll shoot.
Greenlee: Ok, Zach, please, just come on. Oh, God, you're so hot. Just come on, come on, open your eyes. Hey -- hey, hey, hey. Hey, look -- look, look, look. Just focus -- I know it's painful, but right here. Just focus on me. Zach? Zach?
Zach: What is that light?
Greenlee: What? It's --
Zach: What is that light coming from me?
Greenlee: No, no, no, it's pitch-dark in here.
Zach: It's the light, it's coming. You got to stop -- you got to stop the light, stop the light.
Greenlee: Oh, my God, oh, my God -- you mean that light? No, no, no, no, no, Zach, Zach, no, no, no, no, don't go near that light. Please, stay here with me. You don't want to die. Don't, don't -- no, no, no. Don't go to that light, don't.
[Tires screech as Zach recalls being hit by a car]
Greenlee: Please -- please stay with me. Come on, don't go into that light. Just -- you don't want to die, just stay right here. Please.
Greenlee: Ok, look, I know this dirt looks phenomenal on me, but what are you staring at?
Zach: Where's Kendall? Where is she? What have you done with my wife?
[Music plays at The Comeback]
J.R.: Where -- where is Zach Slater? That's the question of the hour.
Adam: Yeah. Bartender, a couple coffees. We can handle this, J.R. We can do it, it's going to be all right.
J.R.: You get that I probably killed him, right? That I hit him with the car, I drug his body in there. I drove off, I dumped him somewhere. Is that what the -- that's what the cops told you, right?
Adam: Yeah, well -- yeah, probably, yeah. But Derek brought his own men over, they searched the place top to bottom. J.R., you can tell me anything you want to tell me. Thanks.
J.R.: The truth?
Adam: The truth.
Singer: It's tough to let you go
J.R.: I don't know. I was drunk, I blacked out. It could've gone down the way that Derek said I played it out or not. Hell, I could've put on a dress and did the tango -- I don't know.
Adam: All you have to know is that it's going away.
J.R.: And how is that going to happen? "I'm sorry, your honor, I don't remember" -- I don't think that's a solid defense.
Adam: No, but trust me. There's no way you're going down for what happened to Zach Slater. Because you're completely, totally innocent, and I can prove it.
Richie: Go on. What are you waiting for? No one will ever know. Just put it to my lips, I swallow -- all done, all gone. Relief, freedom for both of us. Come on. Good, yeah. It'll be quick. What's wrong?
Annie: I can't. God, no. Oh.
Richie: Why? How come?
Annie: How could you do that to me?
Richie: What, give you what you want?
Annie: How could you?
Richie: I'm trying to help you.
Annie: By having me commit murder?
Richie: Not murder, Annie, I hurt, I'm tired. I want out, you want me gone, too.
Annie: Stop it, Richie, I can't take your life.
Ryan: What happened? Are you all right?
Babe: Richie, what happened?
Richie: Just trying to make peace with my sister, right?
Annie: Richie asked me to kill him.
Babe: I don't believe you. Richie doesn't want you to kill him.
Annie: He had a vial in his pocket, and he wanted me to give it to him.
Ryan: Well, where is the vial now?
Annie: It's in the trash.
Ryan: Do you believe her now?
Babe: Tell me she's lying.
Richie: I can't have this fight again, not now.
Annie: He said that I could help him put him out of his misery.
Babe: Or -- or help you get out of yours.
Ryan: Whoa, whoa, whoa, Babe, do not try and turn this around on Annie.
Babe: There is no way that Richie wants to die.
Ryan: There is no way Annie would make something like this up.
Babe: Oh, well, you made up a fake shooting with fake blood. That -- that's probably fake poison, too, another sick mind game.
Joe: What's going on here?
Babe: I'm sorry, Joe.
Joe: This man is in critical condition. The last thing he needs is a brawl in here. Now, I want you all to leave. Now.
Ryan: Joe, we will leave, but there's something you should know. Richie tried to get Annie to help him die.
Joe: Euthanize him?
Ryan: He wanted her to give him whatever was in this vial. I'm sure one of the labs here can test to see if it's lethal.
Joe: Is it true what Ryan said -- that you wanted Annie to help you die?
Richie: Please, just -- I can't talk about it. I just can't.
Greenlee: What are you doing? Let go of me.
Zach: What'd you do to Kendall?
Greenlee: What did I do to her? It's what she did to me, what you did to me.
Zach: Tell me.
Greenlee: I didn't do anything.
Zach: Where is she?
Greenlee: "Where is she?" She's -- she's aboveground, she's in sunlight, in fresh air and real food, and she's probably totally crazed about where you are right now.
Greenlee: Kendall is not the one who saved you from certain death. That was me. Kendall didn't stitch your head. Me again. And Kendall is not the one who slaps you awake every time you pass out. So why don't you chill out, relax, and show some gratitude. You think you can do that?
Greenlee: What -- what are you smiling at? You think if you smile, I'm going to come over there so you can grab me again? Ok, I'll bite. What the hell are you smiling at?
Zach: I love you.
Man: I hate city folk.
Man: Agh -- oh --
Aidan: Thank you for being so gracious and inviting me in. Now, what's with the stockpile in the middle of nowhere, huh?
Man: They're my granddaddy's, came with the house -- I inherited it.
Aidan: You live here by yourself?
Man: That's why I moved here -- don't like people much. I like trespassers even less. The last one --
Aidan: Someone else has been here?
Man: There was someone here a little while ago.
Aidan: Was it this woman?
Man: It was a man. He didn't come to the door. I caught him out in my field.
Aidan: About this tall, dark hair, dark eyes, stubble?
Man: He was shorter than that. His eyes were light, I think. He was a shifty fella, I didn't like him.
Joe: I'd like to talk to Richie -- alone.
Ryan: Come on.
Richie: I'd like Babe to stay.
Babe: I'll be right outside.
Richie: Please? Ok?
Joe: It's fine with me, if you want to.
Babe: I'll stay.
Joe: I know you're in pain, and I know your prognosis is not good. But assisted suicide is a crime in this state. And per hospital protocol, I have to report the attempt, and bring in a staff psychiatrist to meet with you.
Richie: Huh, huh -- to save my life?
Joe: Yeah. Richie, as your doctor, and as chief of staff at this hospital, my job is to keep you alive -- days, weeks, months, maybe even years -- and that is exactly what I intend to do. I'm going to page Dr. Fogel, and he'll be here shortly. If you can't stay until Fogel gets here, I'll send a nurse in.
Babe: It's fine, I'll wait.
Joe: All right, thank you. I'll be back later on.
Richie: Stupid rules.
Babe: You're a coward.
Ryan: Look, I'm sorry that I didn't get here any sooner, all right? If I had have, then Richie wouldn't have been able to mess with you like that.
Annie: I almost did it, Ryan. I came so close. I almost gave Richie what was in that vial, because I just wanted him gone. God help me, I -- I almost murdered my brother.
Adam: The night that Zach Slater disappeared, you spent -- you spent the entire night with me. Huh?
J.R.: Nice try, Dad. But I already told Kendall that I blacked out.
Adam: Oh, well, of course, you don't remember it, given your inebriated state, but I do, and I'm willing to swear on a stack of bibles in front of a judge to that effect. You can -- son, you can count on me.
J.R.: I can handle it --
Adam: Yeah, you can do it. Is that why you hid, came here? Son, I can make this work for us, make it all right. I can make the trouble go away.
J.R.: I just have one question. Do you think I'm innocent? Or do you think I killed Slater and I hid his body?
Adam: Frankly, son, I don't give a damn.
Greenlee: You love me?
Greenlee: See -- um -- what's going on here is your fever has completely fried your brain. You're not here with me, are you? You're where you belong -- you're with Kendall.
Kendall's voice: I can't go to bed with you, Zach, because you're gone, and you're never coming back to me.
[Music plays at The Comeback]
Adam: Trust me, this -- this alibi is -- is perfect. We can break this thing, we can beat it.
J.R.: I don't want Little A to see me like this. I want him to say, "You see that guy over there? That guy is my dad."
Adam: He will, he will.
J.R.: I want to be able to build a life for him, I want him to be able to see that I could do it on my own two feet, not get a handout from his grandpa.
Adam: We're family. We help each other.
J.R.: Maybe I should start doing self -- doing it myself. It's not too late.
Adam: Listen, son, listen to me. Everything you want, you will have. Trust me on this. I'm going to call Derek right now, I'm going to tell him I'm bringing you in for questioning. You tell him exactly what we talked about -- tell him you were with me.
Singers: It's all right
Singers: I can make it on my own
J.R.: Do it.
Singers: I won't die
J.R.: Call Derek.
Singers: It's all right I can make it on my own for one night
Aidan: What's your name?
Aidan: Are there any other buildings on this property, Sylvester?
Aidan: Anyplace someone else can hide or be hidden?
Aidan: And have you seen anyone other than the man in the field?
Sylvester: Just you.
Aidan: Do you have any neighbors?
Sylvester: Granddaddy came here, because there weren't no neighbors. He thought it was the end of times. He came to prepare, get ready.
Aidan: What about these?
Sylvester: They're registered.
Aidan: Ok. And all this stuff here -- what's this?
Sylvester: It's granddaddy's things. I'm still going through them. We done?
Aidan: I was hoping for more from you, Sylvester.
Sylvester: I got nothing to hide. You can search the whole damn house for all I care.
Aidan: Well, thank you. Thank you for your hospitality. Now, stand up, come on.
Aidan: You heard me. Through here.
Sylvester: I told you --
Aidan: Go on, move.
Sylvester: I'm here by myself, I don't want no trouble!
Aidan: We're not exactly best mates, Sylvester, so I can't exactly trust you, and I don't want you sneaking up behind me and whacking me over the head. Now, get in.
Sylvester: You can't lock me in the closet! This is my house!
Aidan: Just consider it a time-out.
[Key turns in lock]
Greenlee: Zach? Hello -- Greenlee. Not Kendall, Greenlee. Does this hair look curly to you?
Zach: The hell with Greenlee. I'll find my way back.
Kendall's voice: Watch your mouth, Slater.
Greenlee: I don't care how delirious you are.
Zach: Where's Kendall? She was here, where did she go? She was right here.
Greenlee: Zach, it's in your head. You have a fever, you're hallucinating.
Zach: She was right here.
Greenlee: It's you, me, and -- and soup cans. Let it go.
Zach: Ok, I'm going to go find her.
Greenlee: Are you kidding? No, forget it, you got -- Zach, stop it.
Zach: Out of my way.
Greenlee: Hey, you're going to pass out again, Zach! Slowly -- slowly --
[Zach groans as he slides to the floor]
Greenlee: Oh, my God. Zach -- Zach, just -- shh, calm -- please, please, please?
Zach: Kendall needs me, I need to -- I need to --
Greenlee: Please calm down. Zach? Zach? Come on. No, don't pass out again. Wake up, wake up, Zach. You so better not remember this.
Greenlee: [As Kendall] Zach? It's me -- Kendall. Zach? Zach, sweetheart, I need you to wake up. Zach, look at me, open your eyes. You can't leave me. I need you.
Kendall's voice: Please don't leave me again. Please?
Babe: What was that all about earlier -- how you wanted to fight to get better, how you wanted more time with me -- and -- and now you're just giving up? Why did you lie to me?
Richie: I wasn't lying to you when I said I wanted to spend more time with you, Babe.
Babe: But why -- why would you cheat yourself out of the time that you have left?
Richie: I wish I could fight this, I wish I could beat this -- miracle man -- spend more time with you, your son. Too bad wishing doesn't change the facts.
Babe: Yeah, well, maybe you don't have forever, but you have now. You're too tired to fight, then you just hold on to what you do have -- you hold on to right now. Is that so hard, so impossible?
Richie: Could you come closer?
Richie: I want to touch my "right now." Please?
Richie: God --
[Babe hugs Richie]
Ryan: Don't --don't do this. Don't let Richie get to you. Don't beat yourself up like this.
Annie: I was so close, Ryan. I could've done it.
Ryan: But you didn't.
Annie: I wanted to murder my brother. I wanted to put that vial to his lips, and I wanted to watch him drink it, and I wanted to watch him die. What kind of a person would want that?
Ryan: You were tempted, Annie. There's -- there's a very big difference between that and actually doing it.
Annie: And Richie confessed to -- to all sorts of things. He admitted pushing my dad.
Ryan: He's playing you.
Annie: He said that he needed to die for all the things he's done in his past and all the things he could do in his future.
Ryan: Ok, look, Richie has been harassing you, he's been stalking you, he's been lying to you, he's been blaming you for all the things that he's done. He's made you feel afraid for yourself, afraid for your family, ok, so it makes sense -- it makes sense that you would think the unthinkable.
Annie: You know what my evil brother was doing before he was brought in here? He was looking for Zach. Richie got pneumonia, because he was out all night searching for Zach.
Ryan: It's a lie. Annie, this is just another one of his lies.
Richie: Thank you.
Babe: For what?
Richie: Letting me hold you.
Joe: Richie, this is Dr. Fogel, one of our staff psychiatrists.
Babe: I'll be right outside.
Richie: I'm counting on it.
Annie: Joe said a volunteer found Richie passed out in his car near the search site.
Ryan: I was out there looking for Zach for hours, I never saw Richie.
Annie: That doesn't mean that he wasn't there.
Ryan: That doesn't make any sense. Why would he spend all night looking for a guy that he doesn't even know?
Annie: I was wondering the same thing. I don't know -- maybe he was trying to impress Babe?
Ryan: See, now, that does make sense. I mean, that's the Richie that we know -- pretend like you're looking for Slater so you can play hero to Babe.
Babe: What is it with you two? Your brother is in there closer to death than life.
Ryan: Babe --
Babe: No, no, Richie risked his health to help save your friend, and all you can do is slam him. When are you finally going to give him a break -- when he's dead?
Ryan: Ok, just take it easy.
Babe: Oh, God, Annie, why is it so hard for you to believe that Richie would go out on the search for Zach? He knows he has a wife and kids. He wants Zach to be found, just like everybody else in Pine Valley.
Ryan: Yeah, everybody except your ex.
Babe: What does J.R. have to do with any of this?
Ryan: You haven't heard? Underneath Zach's smashed-up car, Kendall found a photo of you, J.R., and Little A.
Ryan: He blacked out, Babe. J.R. has been drinking again -- did you know that?
Babe: No --
Ryan: The cops found J.R.'s car abandoned, front-side damage and blood on the passenger's seat, and the blood type matched Zach's.
J.R.: Am I under arrest?
Derek: Let's just say you're a person of interest. Tell me, where were you on the night of November 15?
Adam: He was with me.
Derek: You mentioned that before?
Adam: Well, no, I was -- I was concerned about finding my son first.
Derek: Was he with you all night?
Adam: Yes, yes. I went back to the -- to his yacht, he was drunk as a skunk. I was concerned about him, so I -- I took him home with me, let him sleep it off that night. I stayed in his room to watch him.
Derek: And your car?
Adam: Obviously, that was stolen from the Yacht Club that night.
Derek: Your father certainly has a lot to say. What about you? Is what he said true?
Zach: I'm sorry, Kendall, I shouldn't have left you the way I did.
Greenlee: [As Kendall] Yeah, it -- it's -- it's ok, Zach. I'm not mad at you.
Zach: Yeah, but I miss you. I really do, I do miss you.
Greenlee: Zach, I need you to get better.
Kendall: I need you to get strong and healthy. Get some rest and get well so you can come home to me.
Zach: I will, I -- I will get stronger for you and the boys, I'll do it. Huh.
Greenlee: And I need you to listen to Greenlee. She knows what she's doing. She's very, very smart.
Zach: Oh -- you know what? I was going to tell you -- I forgot. I -- before I left, I wanted to find you and -- and show you Paradise.
Greenlee: You just come home to me.
Zach: I'm -- I'm sorry. I -- I can't -- um --
Greenlee: No -- hey, I know you are.
Zach: Because I love you. I do always. Always only you.
Greenlee: I -- uh -- love you, too, Zach.
Derek: What about it, J.R.? Were you with your father the night Zach Slater disappeared?
J.R.: Um -- ahem. No, I wasn't. I got drunk, and I blacked out, and I ended up at The Comeback bar. I don't know when or how.
Adam: But if he doesn't remember, I certainly do.
J.R.: Just ask Ava Benton -- she was there, she knows.
Adam: J.R., what are you saying? What are you saying?
J.R.: I guess it's the Chandler in me. I want to do what's right for my son, too.
Derek: J.R., you are under arrest.
Adam: No, you can't do that --
Derek: You have the right to remain silent. Whatever you say will and can be used against you in a court of law.
Babe: I can't believe this is happening.
Annie: What is it?
Babe: I just got off the phone with the police station -- J.R. turned himself in. Adam's there with him now. I don't know if he's been arrested or not.
Annie: Maybe you should go, be with him.
Babe: J.R. has his father. Richie doesn't have anybody.
Dr. Fogel: I'm sorry for what you're going through.
Babe: Hi. I'm -- I'm sorry to interrupt, but I have to leave to go take care of something really important.
Dr. Fogel: We're actually finished. Dr. Martin and I will check back with you.
Richie: This -- uh -- this errand -- I hope it's nothing serious.
Babe: Um -- it's J.R. He may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident.
Richie: Oh, wow. Oh -- I'm sorry. Um -- it -- go, Babe. Yeah, I'll -- I'll be fine.
Richie: Huh. Oh, no way. Ha-ha! Oh, thanks for the ride, Junior.
[Richie recalls the night of Zach's hit-and-run]
Richie: Whoa, sorry, man. You don't look so good. Say, don't I know you? Well, I knew you anyway. I don't think you're going to make it.
Joe: I have Richie's test results here.
Ryan: How is he?
Joe: His ABG still shows a ph of 7.22, which means he's not getting enough oxygen. The severity of the pneumonia, combined with leukemia -- his condition is very, very critical. He may not make it through the night. I'm sorry. We will do everything we can. Excuse me.
Annie: I want to feel what Babe's feeling. I want to -- want to go in there and tell Richie it's going to be ok -- like a sister should.
Aidan: Oh, man.
[Key turns in lock]
Aidan: Come on.
Sylvester: You find what you're looking for?
Aidan: How many acres in this place?
Sylvester: You can't search my property -- I told you, there's nothing out there. Nothing.
Aidan: Well, it's getting late. Next time we'll do tea. Oh, this is yours. Almost forgot -- you can have it back.
Sylvester: Next time I'll use this.
Aidan: See you around, Sylvester.
Sylvester: Don't come back!
Greenlee: I don't know how much longer I can keep this up, Aidan. I know you're out there looking for me. Please, Aidan, just -- please hurry up and find me.
[Aidan searches through the dark woods]
Aidan: Greenlee! Greenlee! Greenlee!
Greenlee: Don't even start with me about wasting water.
Zach: Uh-uh. I'm going to get stronger, and I'm going to come home to you and the boys. Yeah.
Greenlee: [As Kendall] Well, I can't wait for that, Zach.
Zach: Mm-hmm. You can put on that Red Wing jersey and do that thing you did -- there's nothing sexier.
Greenlee: Yeah -- ok, got it. Ha-ha! Get it, got it, thank you.
Zach: Oh --
Greenlee: Hey, Zach?
Greenlee: Um --
Greenlee: I kind of need to know something.
Greenlee: When we get out of here, when we go back home, what are we going to do about Greenlee? We set her up.
Zach: We're not going to do anything. We already did what we had to do. And if I had to, I'd do it again. Greenlee got exactly what she deserved.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Jack (to Erica): If this is another attempt to further scorch Greenlee's reputation, I will see that you regret it.
J.R.: Is this a sadistic thrill for you or what?
Ava: I'm here because I don't think you did it.
Sylvester (to Tad and Aidan): Back again, huh?
