Erica: Joe, I'm sorry. You have been misinformed.
Joe: Mm-hmm. You and Adam tried to have Greenlee committed. That's a fact.
Erica: That is an outrageous accusation. My goodness, who told you such a thing?
Joe: Never mind who -- and stop trying to dance your way out of this, because I know all your moves. It never ends with you, Erica -- meddling in other people's lives, manipulating your own family. When are you going to stop?
Ryan: What are you doing?
Aidan: I'm just -- uh -- I'm clearing out some old supplies.
Ryan: So your girlfriend just pleaded guilty to kidnapping, and you're cleaning out the closet? I don't think so.
Judge: Ms. Smythe, I have a document here with your signature stating that you understand the charges against you. Is this correct?
Jack: Greenlee, please don't do this. Let me help you.
Zach: Let's take a seat.
Judge: Ms. Smythe, do you understand the rights you are giving up here today?
Greenlee: Yes, I do, Your Honor. I give up. I give up everything.
Judge: Ms. Smythe, the charges against you in this matter are extremely serious. And since you've elected to serve as your own counsel, they bear repeating. Kidnapping Spike Lavery, aggravated assault against Kendall Hart Slater, endangering the welfare of a minor, false imprisonment, interference with the custody of a child, unlawful restraint. Do you fully understand the consequences of pleading guilty to each count of the indictment?
Greenlee: Yes, Your Honor.
Judge: Has anyone attempted to force you to plead guilty?
Judge: So you will be entering your plea voluntarily, of your own free will?
Judge: If the court accepts your plea, you will give up your right to a trial, as well as to any and all avenues of appeal.
Greenlee: I'm aware of that.
Judge: Very well. The district attorney has made a sentencing recommendation. If your plea is accepted, you will serve no less than three and no more than six years in the state prison. Those are the consequences of your decision here today, Ms. Smythe. Do you understand?
Greenlee: Yes, Your Honor. I understand perfectly.
Ryan: So, why aren't you at the court house?
Aidan: I told you, I'm busy. If you're looking for Tad, he's not here, so --
Ryan: I'm not looking for Tad, I'm here to see you.
Aidan: What for?
Ryan: Because I thought you might have something to say about Greenlee pleading guilty.
Aidan: Well, that's what everybody wants, isn't it? Justice?
Ryan: I can't believe that's what you want.
Aidan: I'm not happy about it, Ryan, but it's Greenlee's call, it's her life.
Ryan: What happened, Aidan? What made Greenlee change her mind?
Aidan: I don't know. Maybe you should ask Greenlee that question.
Ryan: This is not like her. She doesn't back down, she doesn't give up without a fight.
Aidan: Well, maybe she's got no fight left in her. You ever think of that?
Ryan: You don't believe that, Aidan, and neither do I.
Aidan: What's the matter, Ryan? Greenlee's gone away -- away from you and Spike, Zach, Kendall, and Erica.
Ryan: Nobody wants her locked up for something that she didn't do.
Aidan: Is that supposed to be some kind of joke?
Ryan: I don't want that kind of justice.
Aidan: Are you sure? Because that would make life a hell of a lot easier for you, wouldn't it? Not having to face Greenlee, not having to face the guilt from trying to ruin her life?
Ryan: Look, Aidan --
Aidan: No, you look, Ryan. Maybe she's giving up. Maybe Greenlee's giving up, because everybody she loves has turned against her. All right, she's tired of being smacked around every time she tries to make up for her mistakes. And maybe she's at the point where suffering from claustrophobia in an 8-by-10 cell seems a better option than trying to prove herself to people that will never give her a second chance. All right? But what I really want to know is, why do you suddenly give a damn?
Erica: Greenlee forced Kendall into premature labor with this little baby after she almost killed the other one. Spike is deaf. Little baby Ian has never even been out of the hospital.
Joe: I'm well aware of the trauma Kendall and her boys have suffered.
Erica: Oh, that's good. Then you understand how we must protect them.
Joe: Not by putting Greenlee away against her will.
Erica: Joe, Greenlee is facing up to six years in prison for attempting to steal Spike again. I mean, after a long and painful trial, she could come out of that penitentiary after six years as resentful and angry as ever, maybe even more so. Or she could go and get the professional help that she so desperately needs. Now, you tell me -- which is the better choice?
Joe: It's not for you to decide.
Erica: But then why don't the doctors or the authorities decide? I mean, Greenlee is dangerous. First she steals Spike and drives him off the road. Then --
Joe: Yes, she did have a terrible accident.
Erica: "Accident"? My God, Joe. Spike is never going to be able to outlive the consequences of that "accident."
Joe: Well, it is a life or something that Greenlee saved. He could've died of his injuries without her.
Erica: Joe, Spike never would've had those injuries if it weren't for her.
Joe: Ok, have it your way. I mean, blame Greenlee -- blame her all you want, but she's not insane. And you have no right -- you and Adam Chandler -- to make it look that way.
Doctor: Mr. Novak? There you are.
Richie: Hey, doc. Yeah, sorry -- I was in your office, but I got a little antsy. I guess terminal cancer will do that to you.
Doctor: Well, here's the refill for your prescription.
Richie: This kid's blowing my mind. We're both fighting, but I'm in the bottom of the ninth, and he's just stepping up to the plate. Hang in there, kid. I got my stash. I'm good to go.
Doctor: Uh -- you know, for now, we're going to keep you on the meds and continue to monitor you closely, but -- I don't think I need to tell you, Mr. --

Adam: If that's all you're worried about, we -- fine, we'll make a second home for her here. She'll have the room next to Colby's.
Krystal: Ok, look, it's no secret how you feel about Tad. I bring my daughter into this house, she is going to sense the hatred you feel for her daddy. And then I bring her to Tad's house, and she senses the hatred he feels for you. I'm not going to put her through that. I'm not going to make her pay for my mistakes.
Adam: We're moving past all that.
Krystal: I want peace between us, Adam, I do, but I am not going to risk hurting Jenny. So if you care about me, and if you want me to be happy, then you're going to leave me alone. Please, Adam, don't make me love you again.
Adam: Well, um -- you're asking the impossible, you know that. You've already admitted that you still love me. We belong together. Isn't it time you stopped fighting that?
Judge: The district attorney will now summarize the evidence before I pass sentence.
D.A.: Thank you, Your Honor. Had the Commonwealth gone to trial today, we would have first summoned the complainant Kendall Hart Slater to the stand. Mrs. Slater would have testified that her 16-month-old son, Spike, on the night in question, had had difficulty sleeping. So she took him on a walk past the boathouse at Memorial Park, where she was surprised to find the defendant. The defendant placed a strong-smelling handkerchief over Mrs. Slater's nose and mouth, causing her to lose consciousness within seconds.
Jack: It's going to be ok.
Judge: Quiet, please. Continue.
D.A.: The Commonwealth's next witness would have been Pine Valley Police Chief Derek Frye. Chief Frye would have testified that on the night in question, his station house received a 911 call from Mrs. Slater. Chief Frye and his officers proceeded immediately to the boathouse, where they found Mrs. Slater lying unconscious next to a handkerchief that had been soaked in chloroform and the defendant holding Spike.
Zach: We've heard enough.
D.A.: Chief Frye then would have told you that a search of the defendant's car turned up several items we would have introduced into evidence -- a suitcase containing the defendant's clothing, and clothing for the toddler, one-way airline tickets to the US Virgin Islands, counterfeit birth certificate for the child, and a substantial amount of cash.
Judge: Anything else?
D.A.: Yes, Your Honor. A search warrant executed at the defendant's apartment turned up a diary on her computer. In this diary, the defendant reveals how she was intent on taking the child and raising him as her own. Thank you, Your Honor.
Judge: Please be seated. Ahem. Ms. Smythe, you heard the charges and evidence against you before I asked you to officially enter your plea. Do you have anything to add?
Greenlee: Yes, Your Honor. I believe that everyone here deserves to know exactly how I did what I did.
Aidan: When did you start giving a damn about Greenlee again, huh?
Ryan: I care about my family, and what Greenlee does affects my family. It affects my son.

Ryan: Look, look, look, look -- I wasn't at the boathouse when everything went down, all right? I just -- I just want to be fair about this.
Aidan: It's a little bit late for that, don't you think?
Ryan: If Greenlee is innocent, Jack is going to do everything in his power to defend her, all right? But if she won't let him, then -- I mean, come on, man, help me out a little bit here.
Aidan: Look, I have been helping you, Ryan. All right? I've been checking into your wife's brother, Richie, the one who says Annie put him in prison for a crime he didn't commit, told a huge lie to make him pay for something that he did ages ago. Am I ringing any bells here?
Ryan: Are you saying this is the same thing?
Aidan: You're damn right I am. And you wouldn't be here if there wasn't a little part of you that knew I was telling the truth.
Ryan: I'm here because I want to find out why you're letting Greenlee go down, and why you're checking your watch every five seconds, and where you're going with that box.
Aidan: You're not supposed to give a damn about Greenlee. But you know she's innocent, and that puts you in a real tough spot, doesn't it?
Ryan: Greenlee needs help.
Aidan: Well, then you need to convince Kendall to tell the truth. But that would mean the mother of your son would go to prison. You know what you should do, Ryan. The question is, can you do it?
Adam: We only go around once, Krystal.

Erica: Good. Then we agree that it just would be so wrong to upset Jack unnecessarily.
Joe: Yeah, well, sooner or later, he's going to find out.
Erica: All right, let's just say he does. Jack will be furious with me, of course. But Kendall -- Kendall will feel responsible. I mean, she'll take on all this guilt, because I went to such extremes to protect her. Joe, my daughter doesn't need that, not after all she's been through.

Joe: You know, I used to be your father-in-law. Now, you may have forgotten that, but I haven't. And I remember all the secrets you kept from Jeff, and how much and deeply it hurt him, you know? It ruined your marriage.
Erica: That was a very long time ago.
Joe: Well, I know, but nothing much has changed. You're still -- you're manipulating on the sly, and having it all come back to bite you.
Erica: Joe, I know that this is hard to understand right now, but believe me, sending Greenlee away to get the professional psychiatric help that she so desperately needs -- that was very painful for me, too. But I do believe that in time, the doctors and -- and Jack and everyone would understand that it really would be for her best, for -- really, everyone's best.
Joe: Well, in medicine, one of the first things a doctor learns is the old precept, "First, do no harm," and that means think before you act -- you know, consider the possible damage before you intervene. And, Erica, you've already intervened, but it's not too late to stem the damages. Please, own up, take responsibility, tell Jack.
Erica: Or you will?
Joe: This is all your doing. Jack should hear it from you. And I'll give you time, but not all that much.

Aidan: Well, then you won't have any trouble sleeping at night, will you?
Ryan: What about you, Aidan? What about you? You're supposed to care about Greenlee.
Aidan: I do.
Ryan: Well, then why aren't you pulling out all the stops?
Aidan: Hey, I know the charges against Greenlee are bogus. And I might not be able to keep her out of jail, but at least my conscience is clear.
Ryan: The woman did try to take my son once before.
Aidan: So this is better late than never? Is that it?
Ryan: That's not what I'm saying.
Aidan: Then what are you saying? Why not just let them take evil Greenlee away and be done with it?
Ryan: Maybe because I've seen what evil really looks like, and maybe now I realize that Greenlee doesn't even come close.
Aidan: Well, then why is she being locked up? You know, why don't you wrestle with that one? Because I got to go.
Aidan: Don't ask.
Judge: Whenever you're ready, Ms. Smythe.
Greenlee: Your Honor, Spike Lavery was supposed to be my son. That's why I'm here today. It's the reason I spent the past couple of months planning his kidnapping. And it's also why I attacked the woman that used to be my best friend. Kendall Slater had my child. I tried to accept that. I spent the past two years trying to forgive her for using her own egg to create a child with the man I loved. Yes, there were complications as to why she did what she did, but bottom line -- she was living my life with my son. I couldn't let go. I couldn't move on. I was completely obsessed.
Judge: And this obsession is what led you to take the child from his mother?
Greenlee: Yes. At first, it was just thoughts, fantasies about what it would be like if Spike were back. I would imagine holding him and hearing him call me "Mommy." I would go into stores, buy toys, clothes, even diapers, just to have people ask me about my son. And the diary you heard about -- well, that just started as a story, things I would say to Spike if he were mine. But then I thought, "Wait a minute. He is mine. Why am I aching for a child that belongs to me? That's not right. That's not fair." So I decided I'd get him back. Forget friendship. Forget forgiveness, trust, honesty, love. I didn't love Kendall. I hated her. I wanted her to suffer. I wanted revenge.
Judge: So you put your plan in motion?
Greenlee: Mm-hmm. I got everything together, I loaded up the car, and I waited. And I also thought, "Well, why not have more children with Spike's father?" I mean, I still loved him. I never stopped loving him. I would still even dedicate songs to him on the radio. I mean, I -- I couldn't carry a child to term, but that didn't mean that Ryan and I couldn't have babies -- lots and lots and lots and lots of babies -- because, well, Kendall's husband knows why. But it all started with Spike. He would make all my dreams come true. And I'd also get payback from all the people that took my dreams away in the first place. So, when the time came, I made my move. I followed Kendall to the boathouse. I held that handkerchief over her mouth until she passed out. I took Spike. I took back what was mine.
Jack: Greenlee, that is enough.
Judge: Sit down, Mr. Montgomery.
Greenlee: No, let me finish, because the people in here deserve to hear how evil I am. Kendall was raising my child. She stole him, so I had to save him.

>> On the next "All My Children" --
Amanda (to J.R.): You slept with Babe?
Babe (to Richie): Do you know how much time you have?
Kendall (to Joe): Greenlee has escaped, so we have come to take Ian home.
