Pam: The network wants examples from your own life -- in-laws, step siblings, adult children?
Jack: No problem here. Hmm.
Pam: That looks like a problem.
Erica: Oh, we're going to work it out, on camera.
Jack: That's right. We'll give it to you just as raw and intense and personal as you want it, Pam.
Erica: But off-camera, that's a different story.
Erica: Hmm. Pam, we've got this covered.
Pam: Fine, fine. You got it. Ready?
Jack and Erica: Ready.
[Theme music plays]
Jack: We do put the "fun" in "dysfunctional," don't we? Ah.
Rusty: Stand by, here we go. In five, four, three --
Erica: Fun's over. The "fun" in "dysfunctional."
Colby: Krystal, you already dusted that.
Krystal: You're right, I did.
Colby: Have you been cleaning all night?
Krystal: Well, yes. When my daughter gets held up by knifepoint, I usually don't sleep, you know?
Tad: Morning, ladies.
Colby: Oh. Hey, Tad --- breakfast?
Tad: Thought you'd never ask.
Colby: Here, catch.
Tad: So, how's our Mama-san doing today?
Colby: Well, you got a putty knife? We could pry her down.
Krystal: I heard that!
Babe: Well, good morning, family. Where's Mama? Oh -- super-cleaning mode. Great -- is it really that bad?
Colby: You need your car waxed?
J.R.: Little A wants to see you --
Babe and Krystal: Hi!
J.R.: Hi, Mom!
Krystal: Why didn't you just hand him the money?
Babe: Good morning to you, too, Mama.
Krystal: What were you thinking?
Babe: But --
Tad: In three, two, one --
Krystal: . I was so worried.
Babe: Mama, I'm fine. I'm fine, really, really.
Krystal: Oh -- you know what? My baby doll in danger -- I am selling The Comeback today!
Babe: No, it's ok!
Krystal: I am!
Babe: Don't, please!
Tad: Hey, hey, hey, let's not get hasty. Where am I getting my wings?
Babe: Yes. Please don't overreact.
Adam: My daughter will not work in your crime-ridden hell pit one more day.
Jack: Erica, all adult children who can function independently should be on their own.
Erica: If my children need my love and support, they have it. That means my heart, my home.
Jack: Ok, but making sacrifices, learning lessons from our mistakes -- this is the road we all must walk down to grow up.
Kendall: So I was on a bunch of message boards about kids with hearing loss.
Zach: Did you find out anything interesting? Thank you.
Kendall: Yeah, tons of stuff. Um -- they said that no matter what treatment parents choose, to keep talking to your children and -- and do facial expressions and hand gestures and all that stuff.
Zach: The bank shot stays.
Kendall: Yes. And I get to keep showing Spike how much I love him, so this is good. So let's go, right now, and let's smile at him and make stupid smiley faces. Huh. Well, those aren't smiley faces.
Annie: Hate to break up the party, but --
Ryan: We're moving out.
Kendall: You trying to take Spike away from me again?
Erica: "Some" adult children never learn their lesson, no matter what we do.
Jack: So what are you saying exactly?
Erica: I'm saying that maybe some parental control might actually help some of those out-of-control adult children.
Jack: Yeah, well, what I'm saying is after a certain age, parents should not be in control of their kids.
Julia: Oh, you still have a little bit of a temperature.
Ava: Well, I did just have surgery.
Julia: Your incisions look good, though.
Ava: Yeah, if I was the star in some horror/slasher movie, maybe.
Julia: They will fade. Besides, one of them's inside your belly button.
Ava: You don't get it. Thanks, Kathy. Thanks for the blanket.
Julia: It's Kathy's favorite.
Jonathan: Thank you, Kathy. And thank you.
Julia: Well, I have to get Kathy to school and run some errands. But if you do need me, you've got my cell.
Ava: We won't.
Julia: Uh -- while I'm gone, try and get her to rest quietly.
Julia: Come on, sweetheart.
Kathy: You're still pretty even with scars.
Ava: Thanks, kid. Now, go on.
Jonathan: Stop feeling sorry for yourself. That operation saved your life.
Ava: What life? My career is my life. I should've never had that freaking operation.
Jonathan: Enough --
Ava: I might as well be dead!
Jonathan: Enough. Ok? Ava, you are stubborn, and you are difficult, and you don't take crap from anybody, and I love all of those things about you. So, right now, it's time for you to dig in your heels and suck it up. Do you have any idea what you almost lost? Because, believe me, I've thought about it. Losing you would --
Ava: Look, you just -- you just don't get it. Ok? My career is my face and body, and the clock's already ticking.
Jonathan: Ava, you're not even 21 yet.
Ava: Look, J.R. Chandler might be an idiot, but he's right about one thing -- the time to strike it hot is right now.
Jonathan: J.R. Chandler pitched you his business plan while you were in the middle of having your appendix rupture. That should tell you everything that you need to know about J.R. Chandler.
J.R.: Colby wasn't even there when it was robbed, Dad. She was never even in danger.
Babe: But I'm fine. Thanks for your concern, Adam.
Tad: Yeah, really -- I almost shed a tear myself, your being so warm and fuzzy and all.
Krystal: All right, all right, that's enough, peanut gallery. Babe, honey, could you get those plates? And, J.R., would it kill you to get the crumbs off of Little A's shirt, huh? Tad, you know what you can do?
Tad: Hey, you don't have to give me a job -- I got the baby.
Krystal: Look, look at this -- look at this mess. There's crumbs everywhere. Good gracious.
Colby: Dad, I'm not quitting The Comeback.
Adam: Honey, what if you'd been hurt?
Colby: I wasn't. I like it there. I like having a job.
Adam: But you don't need a job, especially not there.
Colby: Why, because Krystal owns it? Come on, Dad, try to understand. Having a job makes me feel like a -- a real, responsible person.
Adam: Well, you are a real, responsible person. How else would you feel?
Colby: Like a spoiled little brat in Daddy's castle?
Adam: Well, you are my princess.
Colby: Not anymore.
Adam: Was it really that bad?
Colby: I'm not there, am I?
Adam: I used to come by your room every night, hoping to check on you and say -- say "Good night," but you're never there. It's just like when you were a little girl, and I never knew where your mother had taken you.
Colby: Well, you know where I am now. You just don't like it.
Adam: And you want me to -- to back off and let you work at The Comeback? Ok, would you, just to let me worry a little less, move home?
Colby: Ugh! Dad, don't!
Adam: It's -- you can stay as long as you like. Slater is not going to be able to kick you out, because I own the house now.
Adam: Yes. It's the -- it's the Chandler family residence again. I got it back for you.
Krystal: Adam? You -- you got the mansion back? Who'd you have to torture to swing that kind of miracle?
Adam: Well, it was only half a miracle. The other half would be if my daughter decided to live under my roof again -- and my son also, someday.
J.R.: Well, thanks for the offer, Dad, but no, thanks.
Colby: I can't, Dad. I don't think -- Krystal?
Tad: Don't -- don't look at me.
Adam: Colby, I want my daughter back.
Adam: I want what we used to have.
Dre: Hey. Stuart, what's with the suit, man? You can't paint in that.
Colby: Uh -- oh, hey, Dre, I have that CD you wanted. I will be right back.
Tad: Word to the wise, my young friend -- you stay away from that one. He may look like Stuart, but he's not, and he bites.
J.R.: So, how did you get Slater to take the leash off the mansion, Dad?
Adam: Just asked him nicely -- he was very accommodating.
J.R.: Hmm. Must have been ugly.
Adam: No, it could've been worse.
J.R.: Well, for what it's worth, I'm glad.
Adam: Thank you, son.
J.R.: Mm-hmm. Now, I hate to crash your party and tell Krystal that you've been coming over here every day pretending to be Stuart.
Erica: And "some" adult children really need a nudge so that they don't keep on making the same bad decisions -- I mean, "really" bad decisions. So, what is your advice, Jack? Just to enable them to keep on repeating their same old mistakes, just to stand by while they just misbehave --
Jack: No --
Erica: And hurt others?
Jack: No. And I'll tell you something else I don't do -- I don't attack them.
Erica: Where does a parent draw the line? Let's say one family member actually kidnaps another's child. Is that far enough for you, Jack?
Ryan: No, Kendall, we're not trying to take Spike. It's not like that at all.
Annie: Spike would stay with you.
Ryan: Yeah, we have to -- we have to move out for ourselves.
Kendall: What aren't you telling me? What is it?
Annie: Oh, God. I don't -- I don't know where to begin.
Ryan: Uh -- hey, do you want me to try and explain?
Annie: Yeah. Yeah.
Ryan: Ok, um -- well, it's just Annie's got a brother and -- and he's got some pretty serious issues and right now, he's taking it out on -- on Annie.
Kendall: Well, what kind of issues?
Zach: Do you need security? What's -- what's going on here?
Ryan: No, we're fine for now. But for safety's sake, we have to leave your house.
Kendall: Annie, are you ok? My God, you're practically shaking.
Annie: I'm fine.
Kendall: No, you're not fine. You're terrified, my God. You're not leaving, ok? We're family. We're going stick together. You're not going anywhere. No, we can't just let you guys leave with your crazy brother out there.
Annie: No, but, Kendall, we can't stay here.
Ryan: Annie's brother already found her here. He sent her something here. We can't, we can't stay.
Annie: We can't put Spike in danger.
Zach: What about Emma?
Ryan: Well, we know you guys are under a ton of stress right now, but we were really hoping that you would do us a favor and --
Annie: Excuse me.
Kendall: Annie? Of course, we will take care of Emma, ok? She'll stay here with us. We will keep her safe.
Annie: I know. I know this is the right thing to do. It's just the thought of being away from Emma or something happening to her, it's just -- I'm sorry. I -- why am I talking to you about this? Kids in danger, I just -- I need to be strong, as strong as you've been, Kendall.
Kendall: Well, it takes so much strength to let go and to let them be away from you, I'm telling you. But you are doing the right thing.
Annie: I hope so.
Kendall: You are. Listen to me -- I know exactly how you feel, like somehow your kid being with you isn't safe? I mean, I've experienced that a few times. But we're a family -- we're a team.
Annie: You've been so great with Emma.
Kendall: Well, she's -- she's a great kid. She makes it easy.
Annie: Yeah. You've completely let her into your family. She considers you like a stepmom and -- and Zach and Spike, she just adores you guys. And I hate -- I hate to bring this up, but I have to ask you. If something were to ever happen --
Kendall: Nah, no, no. Don't say it, don't even think it, because nothing bad will happen to either of you. Do you hear me? Nothing.
Dre: Thanks for bringing Colby to our gig.
Dre: I -- I just thought you might want this.
Tad: Hey! A recording of the concert.
Dre: Plus a couple of bonus tracks.
Tad: Sweet -- thanks.
Colby: Oh -- are you trying to turn Tad into "Funkster Tad"?
Tad: Speaking of which, where's the rest of the band? I was thinking that later we might get together and, you know, jam.
Colby: Really, Tad?
Dre: Hey, I don't know if you can keep up with us, Mr. Martin.
Tad: I told you, now stop it -- stop it right there. I told you knock that off, ok? Now, there's only one Mr. Martin in town, he's my father, a he's a doctor.
Krystal: Ok -- no, I get it. Is that why I found those drum catalogues in the den, huh?
Tad: Don't help.
Babe: No, do us all a favor -- drum in the garage, huh?
Colby: Oh, hey, where's the band?
Dre: Oh, Ren's -- who knows -- and Corrina's at her sister's debut. It's like a Filipino Quinceañera.
Tad: I've heard of that. That's -- that's like a Sweet 16 party.
Colby: No, don't start it.
Babe: Yeah, once was bad enough.
Dre: What'd I miss?
Krystal: No, please -- don't trip down memory lane.
Colby: Oh, gosh. I had a huge Sweet 16 party, and it was a total disaster.
Tad: So you say.
Krystal: Uh-huh. Yeah, I think that's an understatement.
Colby: It was a long time ago.
Babe: Oh, what, like a year ago?
Tad: Oh, it was ages. Come on!
Colby: Ok, I think the porch needs some sweeping.
Julia: Hello -- oh, hi.
Julia: Hi. Hey. Grandpa Tad.
Tad: Oh, no!
Julia and Babe: Hey!
Babe: Good morning.
Tad: We're being attacked by elves. Oh-ho-ho! You're getting so big.
Tad: And you're getting better. Are you ok? Did I get you?
Tad: This is wonderful. Thank you very, very much. I'm going to have to hang that on the wall. What do you think?
Krystal: Place of honor, absolutely.
Babe: Oh, that is sweet.
Tad: What do you say? Would you like me to set you up with a muffin and some orange juice?
Krystal: How about it? Come on, Kathy, I'll get you a muffin.
Babe: Come on, come with me and then we'll play with Little A.
Tad: Look at that.
Julia: I know.
Tad: So "sweet"!
Julia: Huh -- very sweet.
Tad: What's up?
Julia: I found something at Wildwind and it's Jamie's, and I thought you might like to have it.
Tad: Ah -- "Huck Finn." Yeah. You know, my dad gave me this book --
Tad: And I gave it to Jamie. He always loved it.
Julia: Hmm. You miss him already?
Tad: Yep -- from about the first second he said he was leaving. I'm sure you miss him, too.
Julia: You know, he really looks up to you.
Tad: Yeah, well, that goes both ways. He's tall, he's up to --
Tad: The amazing thing about children -- once they enter your life, make you love them, make you worry about them, you're never the same, never.
Babe: Come here.
Julia: I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Tad: You said it, sister.
Adam: Are you threatening me, J.R.?
J.R.: Not at all.
Adam: Well, then forget what you think you know.
J.R.: I know what I know because I saw you dressed up as Stuart.
Adam: I -- I was covering him for a business meeting. He hates dealing with numbers.
J.R.: Really? Was the business meeting here, because Babe said she saw Stuart here the entire day, the same day that I saw you dressed up as Stuart.
Adam: You don't understand what's going on.
J.R.: You're passing yourself off as Stuart, messing with Colby and Krystal. At first, I thought it was another game. But you're trying to get back at them, aren't you?
Adam: Yeah, think what you want.
J.R.: No, no. I know it, because I saw it today. You want Krystal back.
Adam: No, what I want to do is keep -- keep my daughter safe from Martin and his traveling troupe of hobos.
J.R.: Oh, bull -- you're here because of Krystal.
Adam: You're delusional.
J.R.: You can't just tell her that you love her, and you want her back?
Adam: Keep your voice down.
J.R.: Take it from me -- you keep pushing people away, eventually it'll be too late.
Adam: J.R., will you -- I'm --
J.R.: Holy -- you want it all. You want me, you want Colby, Krystal, and Jenny. You never know when to quit.
Babe: Mama, still?
Tad: [French accent] This little guy here, you know? [Normal voice] Want some coffee?
Julia: No, thanks. I'll grab a cup at the hospital.
Tad: Oh, oh, there's a shot. You'd rather run off and drink coffee at the hospital than talk to me, huh?
Julia: Actually, Tad, I didn't come here about Jamie's book.
Tad: Yeah. I kind of figured that.
Julia: Yeah, it wasn't about Jamie at all, actually.
Tad: So, tell me -- am I going to need a cup of coffee for this?
Julia: It's about Kathy. She's been talking about you nonstop ever since the other morning at The Comeback, and she painted this picture --
Tad: And you kind of figured you needed an excuse to drop by?
Julia: Yeah, that's lame, huh?
Tad: No, not after everything I've been through with you, but it is unnecessary. I mean, look around. You know what? This is -- isn't the kind of house you need an invitation to stop by. You know, I just -- actually, come to think of it, knocking on the door is optional.
Julia: Well, you were just worried that I was pushing Kathy on you as kind of a surrogate daughter since you miss Kate so much.
Tad: Look, Julia, ever since I said that to you, I felt like a jerk. I was wrong. You know, I was exhausted, I was scared. You're a young mother, you're trying to do everything you can for your adopted daughter, and I understand that. I went through it with J.R., and I'm sure you love Kathy every bit as much as I love Jenny, you know? And while I -- I have a tough situation with Kate, I love having Kathy here. I mean, she's a -- she's a terrific kid, you know? She's talented, she's funny.
Julia: She really does have a thing for knock-knock jokes.
Tad: Yeah. The kid's got a sense of humor on her -- go figure. Anyway, she makes me smile, you know? She makes me happy. As far as I'm concerned, you're both welcome any time.
Julia: Oh. Thanks, Tad. And about Kate --
Tad: What about Kate? You know, I'll find Kate someday soon -- I will. I'll bring her home, and when I introduce her to Kathy, I -- I hope they're as thick as thieves. I hope she never leaves, you know? I hope -- I hope she becomes like an older sister to Jenny.
Little Adam: What are those over there?
J.R.: You know, you sure gave me hell walking in on that sting with Ava. And here you are playing hero.
Babe: It wasn't me -- it was actually our bartender, Wes.
J.R.: Oh, come on. I know you -- you were probably protecting him.
J.R.: All right. Well, I'll swear off police drama if you do. Deal?
J.R.: Little A needs both of his parents.
[J.R. and Babe hug]
J.R.: Is this the guy?
Babe: Yeah. I won't ever forget him.
J.R.: Yeah, well, my money's on you.
J.R.: You probably would've taken him.
Adam: Your daughter's going to be fine. She's in your home now, she's surrounded by your family.
Krystal: Excuse me.
Adam: They'll find that hoodlum. They will, and he'll pay.
Krystal: Oh, I -- I know they will. Listen, I -- I'm really glad you got your house back. I know that means a lot to you.
Adam: Doesn't mean a damn thing to me without my family. I have a 20-room house, not a home. What you have here is a disaster area.
Krystal: No, it's not a disaster area, Adam. It's -- it's what you're missing --
Little Adam: What? Oh, yeah.
Krystal: Yeah, I guess it kind of is a -- a disaster area.
Adam: Or worse.
Dre: So, that uptight guy is your dad, and he's a twin?
Colby: Yeah. Weird, huh? My dad and Uncle Stuart are completely different. They hardly even look alike once you get to know them.
Dre: But you live here instead of with your dad?
Colby: Yeah, but he wants me to move back home. I don't know. Feels like a home here.
Dre: Well, as long as everybody's cool with it.
Colby: Yeah. We are.
Colby: I don't know. It's -- it's a little weird but, you know, it's my family.
Dre: Yeah. People do stuff. You just got to figure out what matters and move on.
Colby: Yeah. Um -- well, what about your parents? Did they completely freak out when you told them that you want to be a musician or were they pretty cool with it?
Dre: Uh -- I'm on my own now. I have my own place.
Colby: Hmm. Oh, yeah -- sorry for lying back there. I had to clear up some business with my dad.
Dre: Huh. Yeah, I didn't think I asked you for any CD.
Colby: Yeah, but you know what? You played it off real smooth.
Dre: Well, no worries -- huh. You know, people all have their secrets and cover-ups. You know, sometimes it's the only stuff that feels like it's yours.
Jonathan: Your career is your business, but J.R. is not looking out for you.
Ava: Look, J.R. saw an opportunity and he took it.
Jonathan: When you were being prepped at the hospital for surgery.
Ava: So what? He pitched his idea to me, and I love it -- my own network? Come on, give the guy some credit.
Jonathan: Not a chance.
Ava: Look, J.R.'s got ambition and I respect that -- even if the rest of him is 100% annoying.
Jonathan: So, about what happened at the hospital -- you thought you were pregnant.
Ava: Let's not go there, ok?
Jonathan: Ava, you were so scared that you wouldn't even go see a doctor.
Ava: Ok. Fine, let's hear it. It'll be all my fault. I mean, I'm on the pill -- most of the time.
Jonathan: What do you mean, "most of the time"?
Ava: Look, I'm not pregnant, ok? End of story. No problem.
Jonathan: Ok. Listen, protection is my responsibility, too. And I'm going to take care of that from now on.
Ava: "From now on"?
Jonathan: I hope so.
Ava: Right. God forbid that I have a kid, right? Can't even take care of myself, huh?
Jonathan: That's not what I meant.
Ava: Well, I wasn't begging you to have your kids, either.
Jonathan: And I was under the understanding that neither one of us wanted babies.
Ava: Well, a pregnant belly would ruin my career for nine months, but you -- I mean, I've seen you with your little nieces and nephews and Kathy. You love those rugrats.
Jonathan: Yeah, I do. And I'm going to be the best uncle ever, and I'm going to love every minute of it. But me as a dad? No, it's not going to happen.
Ava: Well, yeah, not now, but --
Jonathan: No -- ever. It's bad enough that I'm Ryan's crazy brother. I cannot even begin to imagine being some kid's crazy father.
Kendall: I know you can't stop your brain from going to the worst possible place.
Annie: But if my brother comes after me, if he really --
Kendall: I -- I have been to all of these places, ok, and they suck. They totally suck. But I'm telling you, I'm not going to have to raise Emma, because you will see every dance recital of hers, every picture she draws for you. You will -- you will read her bedtime stories at night, you will make up new ones.
Annie: Yeah. When you say it like that -- huh. Hey, um, please don't tell Ryan that I asked you about that.
Kendall: I won't. I won't because I won't have to. Remember how Ryan took care of you during the whole Terry thing? He kept you and Emma safe before he even loved you. Imagine how he'll keep you safe now. Come here.
Kendall: It's going to be -- good, you're good.
Ryan: Are you ok?
Kendall: Um -- I know that you guys have to go. I get that. So Zach and I will take care of Emma, ok?
Ryan: Thank you. I owe you big.
Kendall: Well, thank you for thinking about our family's safety.
Annie: Well, your family is our family now.
Kendall: Definitely. Yes. So, family member, maybe now this will let you shift your priorities.
Ryan: What are you talking about?
Kendall: Well, I heard you have a 24/7 tail on Greenlee.
Kendall: Yeah? Ok, well, if you're doing that for my benefit, don't. You can drop it right now.
Ryan: No, I'm doing it for Spike, and my guys stay on the job. Where did that come from?
Kendall: Where did what come from?
Ryan: That sudden concern for Greenlee.
Kendall: My concern has nothing to do with Greenlee and everything to do with your crisis.
Ryan: One has nothing to do with the other.
Kendall: Don't you want your security man on -- on Annie's brother?
Ryan: I happen to have enough for both.
Kendall: Wow. So it's as serious as Annie says?
Ryan: It's driving Annie crazy, that's how serious it is.
Zach: I take it this is the secret you were alluding to? I'll do whatever I can.
Annie: Thanks. But you've already done something. Telling Ryan was one of the best things I could have done. And it feels really good to finally share this. The relief -- it's -- it's amazing.
Zach: That's what love is. Everything else -- isn't.
Jack: Erica, you can't play the double standard. The rules for stepparents should be the same as biological parents.
Erica: Well, I -- I should think as a stepmother, I would be able to discipline a stepdaughter -- within reason, of course.
Jack: Who are you kidding? Who -- who are you kidding? If a stepmother so much as looked cross-eyed at one of your babies, you'd toss them out of town.
Erica: Actually, I have had some experience in that regard. I have done some tossing myself, because that stepmother in question was nowhere within reason.
Jack: Ok. Ok, but who are you to be the voice of reason? Who are you to decide somebody's fitness as a parent?
Erica: I would do anything for my children.
Jack: What about your stepchildren? What would you do for them?
Erica: I think that a couple needs to decide together what is acceptable.
Jack: Together. Translation -- we do whatever she decides.
Erica: I think the only chance that a couple has to survive is mutual respect and communication.
Jack: Yes, but for some families, secrets and lies -- that's how they communicate.
J.R.: I won't tell Krystal that you were painting her house in Stuart's clothes as long as you don't screw her over.
Adam: I knew there'd be blackmail.
J.R.: No, no, just a friendly warning. What you pulled with Jenny was enough payback to last a lifetime.
Adam: Mm-hmm. Are you still pursuing that ridiculous idea with publicity mongrel Ava?
J.R.: You can't buy in, Dad. It's too late. Duty calls.
J.R.: Well, Daddy's got to go to work.
Babe: "Oh." Want to say bye?
J.R.: Hey, buddy, give --
Babe: Say bye to Daddy.
J.R.: Give me a hug.
Babe: Give him a hug.
J.R.: Give me a hug.
Tad: Oh, my goodness -- did he actually say the word "work"?
J.R.: You take care of your mommy, ok?
Krystal: Bye, see you.
J.R.: Bye, guys.
Julia: You know, you're more content than I've seen you in about forever.
Tad: You're right, I am.
Tad: Here you go, munchkin.
Babe: Oh, there it is. Thank you.
Julia: And I'm -- I never expected to see the two of you back to --
Tad: Oh, no, no, don't get me -- no, don't us wrong. No, Krystal and I are a team, but we're not that kind of team. You know, wee just two good friends with a baby and a lot of baggage.
Julia: So far, so good?
Tad: Oh, yeah. Two thumbs way up, you know? Except for, you know, late-night feedings and a lot of noise, and an occasional fight about the toilet seat.
Julia: Oh. Jamie and I had that fight.
Tad: Yeah. You know, it's family. It kind of goes with the dinner. Kind of like that barrel of monkeys you have over there at Wildwind.
Julia: Yeah, we got a few less monkeys now, though. Jamie's gone, and Di's in New York setting up her apartment.
Tad: Oh, yeah.
Julia: Aidan is gone. It's just me and Del and Jonathan and Ava -- well, Amanda when she's not on J.R.'s yacht.
Tad: Well, kid, I'll tell you what --
Tad: You can keep Delbert.
Tad: Yeah. And if you can stand the chaos, you're welcome here anytime.
Krystal: Oh, my goodness, you're getting too big.
Tad: It's a great place to be.
Babe: You're getting so big!
[Tad and Adam smile at each other]
Ava: Look, you were sick. Ok? And now you're not. You're nobody's crazy anything.
Jonathan: The past doesn't just go away. I made a decision a long time ago that I'm not going to dump my background on a kid. And I keep my fingers crossed every day that Emma and Spike, Kathy -- that they'll never hear about the bad stuff that I did. But if they do, that they'll be old enough to understand it.
Ava: Well, how would they hear about anything? I mean, that's ancient history. And the tabloids have a very short attention span, ok? Your family's going to love you either way.
Annie: Mommy and Daddy had a conversation about where we're going to live.
Zach: Excuse me, ladies, I -- I have a favor to ask you. I was hoping that maybe Emma could stay for a few days with Spike.
Emma: Without Mommy and Daddy?
Ryan: Yeah. It'll -- it'll be like a sleepover.
Kendall: Or -- or like a camp. Yeah! And we could pretend like we're princesses. We could play games. Yeah! All that fun stuff.
Annie: Oh, that'll be so much fun, wouldn't it?
Kendall: Annie, besides, I mean, who's going to get Spike to eat his dinner?
Zach: He'll do everything his big sister does.
Ryan: That's right.
Emma: I love Spike.
Ryan: Aw. He loves you, too, and so do we.
Kendall: Yeah, we all do. So, what do you think, Miss -- Miss Princess Emma? Hmm?
Zach: You want to stay a few days?
Emma: I'll stay, Mommy, if you'll be ok.
Colby: Do you know what time it is? I should get to school before second period.
[When Dre lifts up his T-shirt sleeve a bit, Colby notices a large scar on his upper arm]
Dre: Ahem. Yeah, you better get going.
Colby: Yeah, I'd better.
Dre: I got to head out. Um -- rehearsal later at Ren's place?
Colby: Oh, yes, I'm sure I'll hear it.
Babe: Did you have fun with Kathy, sweetie?
Tad: Hey, listen, when are you due at The Comeback? I got some errands I want to run.
Krystal: Oh, go ahead. I -- I have time. Go ahead.
Tad: Are you sure?
Krystal: Yeah. Yeah, really.
Tad: You're sure?
Adam: Soon as Colby is done with the hip-hopper outside, I'll --
Colby: Oh. Did you guys see that? She stopped crying when she saw Dad's face.
Tad: Yeah. Make sure she doesn't turn into stone or nothing, would you?
Colby: Ooh. She's smiling, you guys. She must think Dad's Uncle Stuart. Oh.
Adam: Yeah, that must be it.
Jonathan: You were very brave. I'm proud of you.
Ava: Hmm. Hey, my life's not been anything great. But my future -- my future is platinum, baby.
Ava: Just got to kick it into overdrive.
J.R.: Extra, extra! Download all about it!
Jonathan: What the hell is that?
J.R.: It's all over the net. "Beauty and the Beast." "How did the face of Fusion land in the ER?"
Ava: What the --
J.R.: "Ask her lover/multiple murderer, Jonathan Lavery."
Ava: I had my appendix taken out.
J.R.: Anyway, I just stopped by to let you know that my offer was nonbinding.
J.R.: Yeah, yeah -- forget everything I said, Ava. After this, you're the last person that I want to work with.
Colby: Dad is trying so hard, and he looks so sad. I just don't think I can completely bail on him.
Krystal: Look, you're not going to hurt my feelings. If you want to be with your daddy some more, I mean --
Colby: Part of me wants to.
Krystal: Look, if that man makes you happy --
Babe: He's your daddy. And he needs you. And who knows? Maybe someday I'll need a second chance with Little A, and I hope he gives it to me.
Krystal: She's right.
Adam: Can I expect you home for dinner?
Colby: Uh -- here's the deal, Dad. I'm not quitting The Comeback, and I'm not going to move back in.
Adam: I thought that --
Colby: But I'll hang out some nights and, you know, I'll spend the weekends.
Adam: Uh-huh. Ok.
[Adam mouths the words "thank you" to Krystal]
Colby: How about you drive me to school, Dad?
Adam: Uh-huh. With pleasure.
Colby: Let's go.
Krystal: Oh, Adam -- Adam -- uh -- could you give a message to Stuart for me? I -- if he could come by The Comeback later on today, I'd appreciate it. I need to talk to him about something.
Erica: Secrets and lies can rip any couple apart. Families can and should protect each other. And you know what? If they don't, then I think the term "family" doesn't even apply.
Jack: Immortal words on family from "the" Erica Kane. You've certainly opened my eyes. Thank you so much.
Erica: And thank you so much, Jack, for giving me even more reasons to protect my own. He said.
Jack: She said.
Rusty: And we're out.
Pam: Congratulations on a fabulous show. Lots of heat.
Jack: Yeah, the sparks were -- they were flying.
Erica: You could feel the electricity.
Jack: That shot you took at Barbara was right on target.
Erica: Well, she makes it so easy.
Jack: Let's go to lunch.
Annie: Ok, have fun, sweetheart.
Kendall: All right. Ok.
[Annie blows a kiss]
Annie: Love you.
Annie: Bye. Bye.
[When Annie and Ryan leave, the man who robbed The Comeback follows them.]
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Greenlee: You know, if you wanted to get rid of me, Aidan, you could've just said so.
Josh (to Hannah): You said you wanted to have Zach's baby. Did you sleep with him?
Annie (to Ryan): Richie destroyed my family once, and he's trying to do it again.
[The robber eavesdrops on Annie and Ryan from the other side of the door]
[J.R. and Ava kiss passionately]
