[Erica watches through the NICU window as Zach blissfully holds his little boy on his chest]
Kendall: You will treat my son, Dr. Hilliard, you have to.
Donovan: You will have to leave now.
Kendall: No, no. Not until you agree to take Spike back as your patient.
Donovan: We have been over this, Mrs. Slater. I don't want to have to ask you again. Please leave my office.
Kendall: No, you are the only one who can fix him. He needs you. I need you. And I'm not leaving until you agree to help us.
Ryan: Annie? Who's it from?
Annie: It's -- um -- it's from my dad. This -- this watch -- this watch used to belong to my mother, so I think -- I think this is his way of saying he forgives me.
Ava: Do we really have to come here? I've already done this place once this week.
Jonathan: We're simply going to have a low-key night.
Ava: Yeah, so, let's drive to New York and go to that bar where the girls take off their bras and hang them on the wall.
Jonathan: Doesn't exactly sound low-key to me.
Ava: Oh, come on. Julia Roberts did it and Drew Barrymore. It'll be cool.
Jonathan: Ok, no road trip tonight. No photos. Not tonight, please. Just because this place doesn't have a velvet rope or a limo waiting for you, doesn't mean it's not cool. We're going to have some fun tonight, I promise you, ok?
Ava: Fine, ok?
Jonathan: [As Ava] That's ok, we'll do fun. [Normal voice] You don't always have to be on, you know that?
Ava: Yes, I do. I'm a celebrity, it's my job.
Jonathan: Then I need you to consider tonight your night off.
Opal: Holy moly. Would you get a load of these? This is Thaddeus Martin in his hairstyle, frizzy hair. Look at this.
Colby: Is that a mullet?
Opal: A mul -- what -- how dare you! My son would never have one of those -- whatever they are.
Amanda: Who hasn't had bad hair days in the 1980s?
Babe: Oh, totally. I remember Mama and I -- we had these matching --
Krystal: Oh, the side ponytail.
Babe: The side pony.
Opal: God, I remember those.
Joe: Well, Tad never wore a ponytail, but I remember him trying to grow muttonchops when he was about 16, yeah?
Ruth: Well, he mostly tried to fill them in, you know, with my eyebrow pencil.
Joe: And we pretended not to notice.
Ruth: Yes. Tad -- when he was little, he was so shy --
Ruth: And retiring and quiet. The last thing he thought about was his appearance.
Krystal: What happened?
Ruth and Joe: Girls.
Babe: I'm not surprised, I'll say that for sure.
Krystal: Oh, hey, Wes. Wes, Wes, Wes, Wes, come here. Everybody, this is Wes.
Wes: How you doing?
Krystal: He's filling in for Kyle behind the bar tonight.
Opal: All right. Wes: Thank you so much for giving me this shot, Ms. Carey.
Krystal: Oh, please -- call me Krystal -- and the pleasure is mine, really. This is my daughter Babe.
Babe: Hi. Wes: Hi, nice to meet you.
Babe: Great to meet you.
Krystal: Yeah, Babe is co-owner with me here at The Comeback. Wes: Oh, so you keep it all in the family, huh?
Wes: Yeah, that's great, I like that.
Babe: Something like that. How about I show you around?
Wes: Lead on.
Colby: I'm going to ask her. Krystal, when is Tad going to get here?
Krystal: Oh, well, that depends on your brother. He is responsible for getting the birthday boy through that door.
Amanda: Does Tad even know what he's walking into?
Krystal: Not a clue.
Krystal: But the problem is he's planning on staying in tonight, so when his butt hits that sofa, it's like a bear hunkering down for the winter. So J.R.'s got his work cut out for him, that's for sure.
J.R.: Hey. I'm swinging over to The Comeback for a quick bite, you want to come along with me?
Tad: I got a better idea.
Tad: Why don't you come along with me so that you can take upon my brand-new home theater!
Tad: Ooh! Wee! Wee! You love it, you know you love it.
J.R.: Yeah, it's -- it's big.
Tad: It's huge! It's 52 inches of plasma screen. It's got wraparound sound, handles CDs, DVDs, video games. For all I know, this thing chops vegetables and makes soup.
J.R.: Yeah. Sweet. That set you back a few bucks?
Tad: Oh, I didn't have a choice, man. My old TV died yesterday, 24 hours before kickoff -- can you believe it?
Tad: Yeah, kickoff. Huh? It's the beginning of college football.
J.R.: Oh, yeah, yeah, right.
Tad: Yeah. You remember how much your brother loves State. Matter of fact, Jamie and I -- we were supposed to watch it over at Wildwind, but, you know -- well, you know, things happened. Anyway, I got myself some cold beer in the fridge, I got pretty cheerleaders in high def -- life is good. All I got to do is figure out how to get this thing hooked up to the cable box and away we go.
J.R.: I'm sure Krystal will have it on tonight.
Tad: Are you kidding? Have you been drinking again? Why the hell would I want to sit in a bar, on a barstool, for three hours, ok, staring at some dinosaur, asking some stranger to pass the pretzels, when I could just sit here in awe of my brand-new, retail oracle in the safety and comfort of my own home?
J.R.: I tell you what -- why don't we record it, you can watch it later?
Tad: Is there something going on over at The Comeback?
J.R.: I just want to hang out for a few hours.
Tad: You can -- here. I'm serious, J.R. Until I see State dump a bucket of ice over that coach's head, I'm not going anywhere.
Ryan: So your father sent you the watch as, like, a peace offering?
Annie: The -- the note said how sorry he was for the -- for the way that he treated me.
Ryan: That's -- that's good.
Annie: Yeah. It is good. It's -- it's very good.
Ryan: Well, then why are your hands shaking?
Annie: Are they? Um -- it's probably just because I -- I'm not sure if his apology is for real. You know?
Ryan: Why would he lie?
Annie: I don't know.
Ryan: Well, what did your father's note say exactly?
Annie: Um -- he -- he wants me to -- to visit him again.
Ryan: Well, that sounds positive. Well, I mean --
Ryan: What do you want to do?
Annie: I think I should.
Ryan: Then do it. Don't wait.
Ryan: Absolutely. I mean, if this is an opening, I want you to take it.
Annie: Ok. Well, then I thy the next flight.
Ryan: Yeah, make sure you book two tickets. I'm going with you.
Kendall: What do I have to do to get you to help Spike? Name it, Dr. Hilliard.
Donovan: I admire your passion, Mrs. Slater, but --
Kendall: Then -- then help us.
Donovan: Here's what I can do. I promised you a list of referrals. Every one of these physicians has an approach similar to mine. Just tell them that I --
Kendall: My son -- my son has been examined by more doctors than I can count. But with you, it was different. When you held Spike, you didn't look at him with pity. You smiled at him, and he smiled at you. You connected.
Donovan: Take the list, Mrs. Slater. I'm sure that you --
Kendall: I -- I have faith in you, Dr. Hilliard. I have faith in your ability to heal my son. You -- no one else.
Donovan: Please, Mrs. Slater, it is getting late.
Kendall: What would you do if you were in my place? What would you do if you thought you found the one person who could cure your child? Would you walk out that door? Would you take no for an answer?
[When Zach comes out of the NICU, Erica gives him a big hug]
Zach: When I was holding him, I -- I had this -- this vision of Ian playing hockey with me on -- on that frozen pond behind the house. And I was stronger and -- no. He skated away from me. I was looking at him, he was all alone, and -- and I was -- I was rooting for him, all the way.
Erica: So am I.
Donovan: I must admit, Mrs. Slater, I met a lot of parents who fight for their children, but your devotion to Spike is exceptional.
Kendall: Well, it hasn't always been that way. Spike and I have an unusual history.
Donovan: Go on.
Kendall: Thank you. Spike was supposed to be a surrogate baby. My best friend couldn't carry to term, so I offered to have a child for her.
Donovan: Well, that was very generous of you.
Kendall: I loved her. We were more like sisters than best friends. I wanted to do it. But there were complications, and I ended up using my fertilized egg instead of my friend's. And she was furious. She didn't want the child.
Donovan: Well, I can imagine how difficult that must've been for your friend.
Kendall: She left -- not just Ryan, but Pine Valley.
Donovan: So Ryan and your friend were --
Kendall: Together, yeah. But then -- oh, you know what? The whole -- it's so complicated. I mean, it's -- you just -- you must think I'm crazy.
Donovan: No, no, not at all. Please continue.
Kendall: I just wanted Spike to have the best life possible. And I was convinced that there was no way that I could be a good mother -- until I had a scare. The -- the baby stopped kicking. I -- I couldn't feel him anymore.
Donovan: And you thought that you had had a miscarriage.
Kendall: Then that was it for me. Everything snapped into focus, and I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted my child, more than my own life. So I swore -- I swore that I would never turn my back on him again. But I did -- when I went into labor with my other son, Ian.
Donovan: You said that he was born prematurely.
Kendall: Yeah. I was driving to New York with some colleagues, and I started having contractions. And, um -- and Spike -- he was in the car with me. And my friend -- she -- she was driving right behind us.
Donovan: The same friend who was supposed to raise Spike?
Kendall: Yes. But I -- I was scared out of my mind. I -- I didn't want my little boy to see me like that. So -- so I insisted that we switch cars, and I told my friend to take Spike and follow us to the hospital. Well, she had an accident. And Spike was hurt very badly. And it's my fault. It's my fault. I -- no, I -- I promised -- I promised I would never turn my back on him, and -- and I did, I did.
Donovan: You cannot blame yourself for that.
Kendall: Yes, but I do, Dr. Hilliard, I do. I have to fix my son. I have to make him well again.
Ryan: I'll call the airline if you want.
Annie: No. Um, we -- we just moved in with Zach and Kendall. We -- we promised we would help them. We can't just leave.
Ryan: They'll understand, Annie. It's just for one night.
Annie: Ryan, Spike just got out of the hospital. He needs his dad.
Ryan: Spike is doing great, and before he even misses us, we'll be back.
Annie: You should stay, take care of your son.
Ryan: I want to take care of my wife.
Annie: I need to visit my father alone, Ryan. If I go with somebody else, it'll make him nervous.
Ryan: Well, I'm not "somebody else," I'm your husband. And, honestly, I think it would be good to -- for him to see what kind of family we have.
Annie: I know, but --
Ryan: You've been upset since your last visit.
Annie: But I'm -- I'm fine now, and he's sorry.
Ryan: But you just said a second ago that you weren't sure if his apology was for real.
Annie: I'm sure now.
Ryan: Annie, you said that you've had issues with your father, and you haven't gone into what they are, but it's very clear that they run deep, all right? Since your last trip to Chicago -- a trip you didn't even tell me you were going on -- something is different.
Annie: Nothing is different.
Ryan: You're tense all the time, you jump out of your skin when the phone rings.
Annie: I explained that -- our family has been going through a lot. Everybody's on edge.
Ryan: This is more than "on edge," Annie. It's almost -- it's almost like you're threatened.
Annie: Threat? What? No. There is no threat.
Ryan: Terry's brother, Neal McDermott -- I did a check on him. He's in a prison in Europe.
Annie: I already told you -- this has nothing to do with Terry or his family!
Ryan: Then who is it, Annie? Who has got you so scared?
Opal: Ruthie, look what I found.
Krystal: Oh --
Krystal: Oh, hey! Listen, we're having a little surprise party tonight for Tad's birthday. You guys join us? You, too, Ava.
Ava: Oh, no -- thank you, though. No.
Jonathan: We would love to join you. Thank you for asking -- wouldn't we?
Ava: Yeah, thanks.
Krystal: Uh -- listen, Ava, um --
Krystal: As much as I hate to admit this, that little stunt you pulled -- planting a kiss on Amanda -- brought my little establishment a good bit of publicity.
Ava: Really? Do you think there will be photographers here, then?
Krystal: No, no, just Tad's two mamas, Opal and Ruth, and that's the way it's going to stay. Much as I appreciate the extra business, no more stunts. Ok?
Ava: Gotcha. Hooray, a surprise party.
Jonathan: Try to have a good time tonight, please. I'm going to get us a drink, and, no -- no tequila shooters.
Amanda: You're invited to this?
Ava: Yeah, of course. Everyone wants a celebrity on their guest list.
Amanda: Just keep your lips to yourself.
Ava: Ok, well, if you stop stalking me, I might stop trying to cop a feel.
Babe: All right, you two. It's about Tad tonight, so you guys need to let it go.
Ava: All right, Amanda, what do you say? You want to kiss and make up?
Babe: Ok. Would you like to help me move some tables together? Jonathan?
Babe: Could I use your muscles?
Jonathan: Yes. Um -- back in a second, all right?
Ava: Oh, goody. Oh, by the way, I'm not crashing you.
Colby: And I'm not booting, Ava. I came over to say thank you.
Ava: For what?
Colby: For finally doing the right thing. Thank you for talking with the cops to get those drug charges against Sean dropped.
Ava: Yay, me.
Colby: That bust must've been really scary. I mean, the guy pulled a gun on you.
Ava: No big deal.
Colby: You might have not been scared, but I was -- for my brother, and you, too. You know, what you did for Sean, I think, was really nice and cool, so I just wanted to say thank you and I'm just happy you're ok.
Ava: Oh, I'm more than ok. Haven't you seen me on the Internet? I'm living large.
Joe: Josh, Josh. Glad you could make it.
Josh: You didn't think I'd show, huh?
Joe: Well, you know, my grandson is a busy fellow. He's a big shot at Cambias now.
Josh: Yeah -- "grandson." That's -- that's still going to take some getting used to.
Joe: Yeah. Well, you call Ruth or me if you need practice hearing it.
Josh: Thanks. I ran into your other grandson before he left for Africa. Jamie told me how much he was going to miss you guys.
Joe: I sure miss him.
Josh: Yeah. Well, he also told me that the Martin family was pretty great, and, well, now that I'm a part of it -- well, anyway, here I am.
Joe: Anyway, you're welcome, although, I should warn you about what you're getting into.
Krystal: This is cereal with candy bars. I can't believe Tad eats this every morning.
Krystal: His dentist must be a very rich man.
Ruth: Well, Tad's always had a -- you know, a sweet tooth --
Ruth: Since he was little and had to go to the hospital when he was found hurt in the park.
Ruth: But his first meal in our home -- chocolate chip cookies and milk.
Krystal: Oh, right.
Ruth: And I told him that he could eat the whole plate full, and he did. Yeah, and then -- oh.
Krystal: I bet J.R. wishes he had one of those chocolate chip cookies right now to lure Tad out of the house.
Ruth: I know.
Tad: Well, it's so nice and shiny, yes.
J.R.: All right.
Tad: Oh, here we go.
J.R.: Bet you forgot the batteries to the remote.
Tad: That's funny. That's true. No, it's not my first time at the rodeo.
Tad: All right, here we go. Remote to plasma screen, get ready for liftoff in three, two, one.
[Tad mumbles as the electricity goes out]
Tad: Heartless bastard. I knew this place needed new wiring.
J.R.: I guess that's it, then.
Tad: What's it?
J.R.: Call an electrician for the morning. Let's go, come on.
Tad: No, no, no, no! I'm not going anywhere. Damn it, I did not spend half of your sister's college fund to buy a brand-new, 52-inch plasma screen and walk out on it the first night it's out of the box.
J.R.: The kickoff is in 20 minutes.
Tad: Yeah. Yeah, it is, which is why I suggest you help me find a flashlight.
Erica: Joe told me that Kendall wandered into another woman's room and asked to hold her baby.
Zach: She was pretty tired.
Erica: When Bianca thought that she had lost Miranda, she walked into the nursery here and she was looking for Miranda. Of course, Babe had her all along -- we just didn't know it at the time. And Bianca was so desperate to hold her little girl that she took a baby from the hospital.
Zach: Well, Kendall didn't do that, but she did scare me.
Erica: This is harder on Kendall than we knew.
Zach: Yeah. She wants what's best for Spike. That's all she can focus on right now.
Erica: And what about Ian?
Zach: She -- she slept through the night for the first time since the accident.
Erica: Oh, that's good. Even with all your house guests?
Zach: Hotel Slater -- we run a tight ship.
Erica: Yeah, I know. You invited Ryan and Annie and Emma to move in with you. Isn't that a little cozy?
Zach: Just till she gets her confidence back, that's all.
Erica: How long do you think that'll be?
Zach: I don't know. But I do know she was better this morning. She's bouncing back.
Kendall: You, me, and Spike -- the three of us will make my son hear again.
Donovan: Your son's father has serious doubts about that.
Kendall: Ryan can be overprotective at times.
Donovan: I also get the distinct impression he doesn't like me very much.
Kendall: Don't worry about Ryan. He will not be a problem, I promise.
Donovan: What about Mr. Slater? I've yet to meet your husband. Where does he stand on all this?
Kendall: Don't worry about Ryan and Zach, either of them. From now on, you'll only be dealing with me.
Donovan: I've told you this before, Mrs. Slater. That's not how I work. All parents need to sign on, no exceptions.
Kendall: You broke away from mainstream medicine, because you thought it was too rigid. Now you're the one being rigid. Don't punish Spike because one person is resisting something he doesn't understand. I need you to say yes. I -- I need you on my side. You gave us hope. Please, please don't take it away.
Donovan: All right. I will treat your son.
Kendall: Thank you. Thank you, thank you.
Donovan: Right. We need to get started right away.
Kendall: Ok, great. Ok, uh, the sooner the better.
Donovan: These are specially formulated vitamin drops. I want you to add five drops into Spike's milk three times a day.
Kendall: Ok. What's -- what's in it?
Donovan: Nothing unusual. It's 100% organic, easily digestible.
Kendall: Does it taste funny?
Donovan: No, it's virtually tasteless. Just stir it in his milk.
Kendall: And -- and other babies that you've treated, they've taken this?
Donovan: All my patients take vitamins. This has all the details you need.
Kendall: Great. Ok -- what else?
Donovan: I still need to get Spike's medical records so that I can draft a complete treatment plan.
Kendall: Ok, well, you will have that by tomorrow.
Donovan: Uh -- how do you plan to deal with Spike's father and your husband?
Kendall: You leave that to me. Thank you. Thank you so much. You won't regret this.
Annie: I don't want to shut you out. It's just --
Ryan: I'm worried about you.
Annie: Don't be.
Ryan: I want to help.
Annie: I'm fine.
Ryan: You know what -- you're right. No matter what happens here, we will be fine.
Annie: Ryan --
Ryan: Look, no matter what happens, no matter what happens there, no matter -- no matter what I find out, there is absolutely nothing that could make me stop loving you. Do you understand?
Annie: I love you, too.
Ryan: So we're going to go to Chicago together, and it's going to be ok. It's all going to be ok.
Tad: Ok, did you remember to top off the tank in the generator before you started it?
J.R.: Yeah, tank's full.
J.R.: I got gas on my hands. Smell.
Tad: Yeah, that's almost interesting -- sit down. Come on. Cross your fingers, baby. This is it.
[TV clicks on]
TV announcer: Moments away from kickoff on a perfect evening for college football.
Tad: Are you ready for some football?
J.R.: Oh, yeah.
TV announcer: Early-season matchups don't get any better than this.
Tad: You got that right, bob. Quick, grab my nuts -- come on.
TV announcer: And it looks like we have a capacity crowd in the stadium tonight, and the fans are going wild!
[When the generator shuts down, Tad screams]
Joe: They say State's quarterback is the second coming of Joe Montana.
Josh: Putting money on the game?
Jonathan: I'm -- I'm sorry. We -- we don't have to watch the game.
Ava: No, are you serious? I want to watch it.
Ava: Yeah, one of my social workers when I was growing up played for the Steelers, so he gave me tickets. I get really into it.
Krystal: You know, I -- I came to this place the night before I had to go to prison to drown my sorrows.
Babe: Mama -- she offered herself up to the DA so I could get a lesser charge.
Krystal: I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Opal: I remember that night. I was here -- you were sitting right at this table. Karaoke night.
Amanda: Oh, did you guys sing?
Opal: Oh, of course!
Krystal: Opal sang "Bad Girls" to yours truly.
Babe: Oh, opal.
Opal: Oh, well, get a couple of Harvey Wallbangers in me and there's no telling what I'll do.
Ruth: Oh, sorry I missed that.
Opal: Oh, it's all water under the bridge, I hope.
Krystal: I had it coming.
Opal: Well, this one sang a spine-tingling rendition of "My Funny Valentine."
Krystal: Oh, thank you.
Krystal: I dedicated that to Tad. I walked in here all full of self-pity and he was not going to have any of that.
Ruth: Well, that sounds like my son.
Ruth: Our son.
Ruth and Opal: Our son.
Opal: Don't you forget it.
Krystal: No, he followed me in here and he sat across this very table from me and said, "We are going to have fun," and -- and we did. You know, I think that might be one of the reasons why I ended up buying this place.
Opal: Oh, could be.
Babe: I'll always be grateful to Tad. When you did go away, I -- I was so scared I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, and then finally I asked Tad to go check on you.
Krystal: Well, as you can all understand, those girls inside don't take too kindly to anybody who messes with another mother's baby.
Babe: They broke three of Mama's ribs. But Tad worked his magic on the warden.
Krystal: Oh. Yeah, I don't know what he said, but nobody ever bothered me after that.
Krystal: I really have to thank you for raising such a great man. I mean, I really don't know how I could ever repay him for all the kindness he's shown me.
Opal: Oh, honey, I think you already did. Her name's Jenny.
Ruth: Uh-huh. Yes.
Tad: It's no good. I can't get the generator started again -- I tried everything.
J.R.: Well, then that's it. Let's go.
Tad: Yeah, I. Unfortunately, before I take off, I'm going to have to shower and change clothes, because I smell like I just got off a shift at a grease factory.
J.R.: Yeah, me, too. Listen, why don't you meet me over at the yacht that I live on, and we'll go from there?
Tad: Yeah. Hopefully, we'll get to The Comeback by halftime.
J.R.: All right.
Tad: Terrific. Just great.
Krystal: J.R.? Where the heck are you?
J.R.: I hit a snag -- I had to break your generator.
J.R.: It's a long story. I'll tell you later.
Krystal: How much later?
J.R.: We'll be there in an hour, tops. Yeah.
Kendall: Mother, you're back!
Erica: How are you? How is Spike?
Kendall: Fine. Actually, we're -- we're better than fine -- we're great.
Erica: Well, that's wonderful.
Kendall: Did you see Ian?
Erica: I saw Zach holding him.
Kendall: No, but he -- he can't be touched yet.
Erica: Yes, the doctor thought this would be a good time, that it would be good for the baby.
Kendall: He -- that -- Mother, that's -- that's wonderful. That -- that's amazing. Oh, I can't wait to hear how it went.
Erica: Well, I couldn't take my eyes off them -- that little baby Ian, sleeping on his daddy's chest. It was --
Kendall: Well, so -- so it's really ok? I can hold him, too?
Erica: Yes, honey. You can. Kendall? Ever since the accident, I wanted so much to do something of you to make easier.
Kendall: Mother, you -- you flew the -- the top specialist here. You found the top doctors, and you flew them to us.
Erica: I know, but| I was really wanting to do something more. I'm so sorry that I couldn't.
Kendall: You were here fore, Mom. That's all I needed.
Erica: I haven't always been here for you, honey. But I am now. If there's anything you need from me, you ask me -- I mean, anything, please. Is it -- is it Ian? Spike? What, honey, what? Just, please -- please tell me what's troubling you.
Kendall: It -- it's nothing. Really, I just -- I just want to see my baby.
Zach: Huh? What do you think?
Kendall: Oh, my God.
Zach: Your brother sent it to your phone, too, I think.
Kendall: Look at that, look at Ian. He is so snuggly and his daddy's all smiley.
Zach: Daddy was pretty happy.
Zach: Anyway, I think Ian is tired. He's had a long day. Let's let him rest.
Kendall: Bye, my love.
Erica: Bye, little boy.
Kendall: My sweet.
Erica: So, do you two have any plans for tonight?
Kendall: Uh -- night plans? Hmm, no.
Erica: Come with me to Tad's surprise party.
Kendall: Oh, no, no, no, Mom. I -- I can't. I should get home to Spike.
Erica: Well, but you don't have to stay long at the party. I mean, just -- it'll do you so much good to stay there, just for a little while.
Zach: What do you say -- you want to?
Kendall: Uh -- I -- I could party, I could try, a little.
Erica: That's good -- good!
Kendall: All right.
Zach: All right. We'll see you there.
Kendall: Oh, wait, wait -- but you know what? I -- I need to -- I got to go home first and check on Spike.
Erica: Of course, ok.
Kendall: So -- all right.
Erica: Well, you give that Spike a hug for me, ok?
Kendall: Ok. All right.
Kendall: Um -- no, you know what? You go ahead, I'll meet you home. I just -- I have to do something here first.
Ryan: Hey, Zach. How's Ian?
Zach: Good. What's going on?
Ryan: Um -- something came up with Annie's dad.
Zach: She ok?
Ryan: Yeah, it's nothing serious. We just got to go to Chicago for the night, and don't worry -- we took Emma over to Wildwind. She's going to spend the night with Kathy.
Zach: So Julia's back from California?
Ryan: Yeah, she got back a couple of nights ago.
Zach: All right. Do what you need to do, and we'll take care of Spike.
Ryan: Thank you, Zach. I appreciate it. Hey. How's Spike?
Annie: Sound asleep. Rachael's upstairs.
Ryan: Great. Well, I talked to Zach, and I told him that we'd be leaving for the night, and he's cool with it, so whenever you're ready. You're still worried about how it's going to go with your dad?
Annie: I just want this all to be over with.
Ryan: You know, the only way to -- to put the pain behind you is to look it right in the eye and walk right through it. And just know that I'll be waiting for you on the other side. All you got to do is look at me, and you know you're not alone.
Erica: Tad isn't here yet, is he?
Opal: No. No, no, no, you're --
Opal: You're just in time, gal.
Erica: Oh, good.
Colby: Oh, hey, guys, that's J.R.'s car! Shh, shh, shh!
Krystal: Ok, everybody hush!
Babe: You get the light.
Colby: Get down, get down.
All: Surprise! Oh, no! What?
Krystal: Well, where's Tad?
J.R.: I lost him.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Annie: One more call and that horrible thing I did before -- I'll do it again.
