Kendall: No, no. No, no, no, he can't come now. He can't come now! He's not ready to come now!

Dr. Delano: If we don't deliver now --

Kendall: No, don't say it again! I can't hear it again. He can't die. We have to find Spike. We have to.

Erica: I need to know Kendall's chances and the baby's.

Joe: You know I can't give you hard numbers.

Erica: Well, then give me your word that they both will survive. Joe?

Dr. Delano: Call Neonatal. Tell them we're going to C-section for the 24-weeker. Have a crash cart, 2.5 tubes and a preemie vent set up.

Doctor: I'm Dr. Ford. I'll be your anesthesiologist.

Kendall: No, no. He's -- he's not ready. He'll be too tiny. His -- his heart and his lungs -- they're not ready. Zach, tell them. Tell them, please, please, please. You made them wait for Spike. Please make them wait for his little brother, too, please?

Zach: The doctors will take care of everything. They'll do what needs to be done.

Joe: Erica, promises, odds don't mean anything for this baby at this moment.

Erica: Do it, Joe. Tell me what I need to hear.

Joe: Spike survived early delivery.

Erica: But Spike had another month inside her -- more. Joe, this baby --

Kendall: No, no, no general anesthesia. I have to be awake, I have to know.

Dr. Delano: This isn't a standard C-section, Kendall.

Kendall: I have to be awake! Zach, please tell them. Please tell them.

Dr. Delano: Every step of the way.

Kendall: Will you tell me when Spike is found? I have to know. I have to know both my babies are ok.

[Helicopter hovers]

Ryan: Spike? Spike, it's your dad. I'm -- I'm right here. You can hear my voice, I know you can. Everything is going to be ok, all right? We're -- we're going to make you feel better, but you got to wake up for me, Spike. Wake up for your dad! I'm right here.

EMT: We're going to keep him in the car seat for transport.

Second EMT: Equal chest rise but diminished effort. Broken ribs. She's turning blue. We're going to have to bag her and secure her spine.

Aidan: When will she wake up?

EMT: I can't say, but when she does, she's going to hurt like hell.

Ryan: It's going to be all right.

Erica: You're being vague, Joe. I need to know the facts, the -- the realities.

Joe: Erica, the reality is we all want the same thing, and we'll do whatever we can to make it happen.

Jack: Both of them? Greenlee and Spike -- they're both alive, right?

Derek: Aidan said a 20-foot drop, at least.

Jack: The EMTs?

Derek: Already on it.

Jack: Derek, how -- how bad is it?

Derek: It's a 20-foot drop, Jack -- can't be good.

Zach: Look at me. Look at me. You're about to have a baby.

Kendall: And I'll be awake.

Zach: That's what the doc said, and I trust him.

Kendall: So I'll hear the baby cry? That means that he's ok if I hear him cry.

Ryan: Spike, everything is going to be ok, but you got to help me here a little bit. I can't do this without your help. You got to -- hey, hi. Hi. Hi, little man. Oh, thank God. Hi. Everything is going to be ok. You're so beautiful. Everything is going to be ok, I promise. I promise it's going to be ok, right? Hi. Hi, listen, I promise. I promise. Ok, it's just -- Daddy's right here. I'm right here -- are you ok? Ok. Ok.

Jack: Derek says the EMTs are with them now.

Joe: Go ahead and prep, OR-A.

Erica: Which means Spike's alive.

Jack: Yeah.

Erica: That's what that means.

Jack: They're both still unconscious from the accident, I guess. I guess that's what caused the delay, why Greenlee wasn't here.

Erica: Kendall cannot know this until after the C-section. She can't know this until we know that both she and the baby pull through.

Zach: Is it working?

Kendall: I can't feel my legs, but I can hear you, so I'll hear the baby.

Dr. Delano: Uh -- no, Kendall. The baby will have to have a breathing tube.

Kendall: Then -- then how will I know that he's ok?

Zach: Because you'll look at me, and you'll see me smile. That's how you'll know.

Ryan: Do you think it's head injuries or broken bones? What do you think it is?

EMT: Negative on breaks. Hold up!

Ryan: But is he going to be ok? Is he going to be ok? Ok -- you're safe. I'm coming right behind you, Spike.

Dr. Delano: Ms. Kane, you can't be in here.

Erica: Ok, Kendall needs to hear this.

Kendall: Mom, is it Spike?

Erica: They found him, honey. They found Spike, just as I said they would.

Kendall: They found him -- he's ok. He's ok.

Ryan: I'm right -- I'm right behind you, Spike! Daddy's coming right behind you, ok? I'm always going to be with you! I'm not going to leave you -- I'll be right behind you. We're going to -- we're going to be home soon! We'll go to a doctor, you're going to be ok! We're going to go see Mommy! Everything's going to be all right, Spike!

EMT: Ma'am, can you hear me?

Aidan: Her name's Greenlee.

EMT: Greenlee? You've been in a car accident. You have broken ribs and a collapsed lung. I need you to stay very still.

Ryan: I'm coming, Spike! Daddy's coming!

Adam: What do you want? I don't have any children left to appropriate.

Krystal: I heard you finally went and soaked your head.

Adam: Yeah -- probably wished I'd had a swallow of fetid water and died right on the spot, right?

Krystal: No. Your son and your daughter need you to be alive.

Adam: They want my money -- you all do.

Krystal: Stubborn, pigheaded, and just plain stupid.

Adam: What did you call me?

Krystal: Kendall Slater is in the hospital ER afraid she's about to lose both of her babies. Now, I know what that fear is like and so do you, so stop talking about money and wills and garbage that nobody cares about. You're all in a lather because your children walked out on you, so you tell me this right now, Adam -- are you going to try to stay alive long enough to be around when they finally come back to you?

[As Kendall is being wheeled to the OR, she sees Spike coming in on a gurney]

Kendall: Boy, my boy. My -- Spike!

Jack: Excuse me. My -- my daughter was just in an accident with the little boy that was brought in here.

Nurse: I'm sorry, sir.

Jack: Do you know why she isn't here?

Nurse: I'm sorry.

Jack: Do you --

Jack: What the hell is going on? She should've been here by now.

Joe: Ryan? All right -- there's a lot of blood in his belly. We're assuming it's his spleen. What we need to do is go in and repair it if we can, remove it if we can't. That auto seat was very protective. Your son is alive. No, Ryan --

Ryan: I just want -- just -- he -- Spike? Do -- do you remember when Daddy said that -- that the doctors were going to -- were going to fix you all up and everything was going to be ok and they -- they were going to fix you? Well, they're going to do that now, ok? And I promise you that when -- when they're all done, Mommy and Daddy are going to hold you and everything is going to be all right, ok? I -- I promise.

Doctor: Joe, we need to move.

Ryan: Hey, Joe? I made him a promise, Joe.

Joe: I know.

Ryan: I made him a promise.

Joe: Yes. I know.

Annie: Oh.

Ryan: Whew.

Doctor: Ready? Let's go -- scalpel. Clamps. Gauze. More clamps.

Kendall: Hmm. Zach, hold tighter. Tighter. Whew. Don't let go. The babies can't let go. Whew.

Tad: Erica, how is she?

Erica: Oh, they've started the C-section. And -- and Spike is in surgery, internal bleeding. They have to find it and stop it. If both children survive, Kendall will have two sons. I have to say "if" because no one will promise me that they can both make it. But Kendall can't lose her babies. They have to make it. Kendall needs them both. They have to make it.

Kendall: Zach, all the blood. What happened to Spike? What did Greenlee do to him?

Ryan: They, um -- they got to cut him. They got to cut my boy to fix him. Whew.

Doctor: Is he out?

Dr. Ford: Yeah, he's under. We don't have time for an arterial line. His blood pressure is low, and it's pouring in fluids. Let's go.

Doctor: Ok. Scalpel. Sponge.

Ryan: And there was glass everywhere and there was rocks and -- he just didn't want to open his eyes at first. I had to -- I had to beg him to open his eyes. I begged him, I said, "Please, Spike. Please, please, please."

Jack: Excuse me. Say -- excuse me. My daughter hasn't come in yet. Can you tell me why they wouldn't bring her here for help?

Intern: I'm sorry, sir.

Jack: Can you tell me anything?

Babe: I -- I handed her the keys to the car. I -- I told her to take him and go.

Amanda: Well, you didn't tell Greenlee to take off and not show up.

Di: Kendall made it to the ER in time because of you, Babe.

EMT: Found outside of a car, left pneumo, flail chest, needle decompressed, dressed --

Jack: Greenlee? Greenlee?

EMT: 02 sat was 84% --

Doctor: I need you to step aside, sir.

Greenlee: How is Spike? Daddy, where's Spike?

Doctor: There it is. Damn it! Clamp.

Nurse: Clamp.

Doctor: All right, suction. I can't see where it's coming from. All right, lap pads -- lots of them. All right, soak this up.

Joe: We need at least three more pints.

Nurse: Over here, Doctor.

Doctor: Another.

Joe: Hang on, Spike.

Ryan: Spike's first days -- first months, actually -- were in this place. Hospital smells, strangers' voices. You have any idea how many times I promised him that he would never have to come back here?

Jonathan: Ryan. They found Spike?

Ryan: Yeah.

Jonathan: Wait -- Greenlee. She didn't get away?

Doctor: I need an ABG, CBC, Chem 7, and LFTs. C-spine and chest films and a KUB, then set up a head CT. Maintain C-spine, get a 14 French chest tube and a pneumovax. Step outside, please.

Jack: Greenlee was in an accident. Her car went off an embankment, 20 feet. So whatever you thought she did --

Aidan: The accident happened 20 miles north from where Kendall and Babe turned around to come back to Pine Valley.

Jack: What's that supposed to mean?

Aidan: It means that your daughter wasn't on her way home with Kendall's son.

Kendall: He was awake -- that's a good thing. He'll have a baby brother, won't he, Zach?

Zach: Hmm.

Kendall: Spike will have a baby brother.

Zach: He wanted to be just like his big brother -- couldn't wait to meet his Mama. Now, these doctors -- they know how to work miracles. We've got one already in Spike. We're about to have another one.

Josh: Erica? Can I get you anything?

Erica: A miracle. That's what I want. No. Make that two.

Zach: You made me a promise. You said we'd have a future. No one could touch us or our family. You were right. No one, nothing ever will.

Ryan: What's wrong?

Joe: Your son's injuries are more severe than we anticipated. His spleen is ruptured.

Annie: Oh, God.

Joe: So he's going to need more blood. We've called down to the blood bank, but A-neg is not all that common, so --

Annie: I'll call friends --

Jonathan: I'm A-negative -- I'm A-negative!

Joe: You are?

Jonathan: I am.

Joe: Did you hear that?

Jonathan: Where do we go?

Joe: You've got a blood match -- go ahead.

Doctor: Here we go, people. Remember, we need the long cord for the UVC. Oh, he's blue -- get ready. I've got hold of him. Coming out.

Kendall: Ooh.

Adam: Cheers.

[Glass shatters]

Krystal: You don't give a damn about your children, do you?

Adam: My daughter lives in Los -- in Los Angeles.

Krystal: Oh.

Adam: And the other traitors -- they live closer by. They -- I guess that would fall under the category of keeping your enemies closer.

Krystal: Adam, the only enemy you have wears your shoes, your suit, and barks in your voice.

Adam: I threw you out of my house, and out of my life. Now, for once in your life, could you have the "decency" to go away?

Doctor: It is a boy, time of birth, 6:17 P.M.

Dr. Delano: Your son's alive. Respiratory rate insufficient --

Kendall: I need to hold him.

Dr. Delano: We need to intubate.

Kendall: I need to see him, please!

Dr. Delano: Bag him.

Kendall: Ple -- please -- I need -- I need to see him and hold him. Can I -- can I just see him for one minute, please, please?

Dr. Delano: Send the cord blood for a gas and get labs.

Kendall: I need to see him. I just want to see my baby.

Dr. Delano: Heart rate rising.

Kendall: Please can I just see my --

Dr. Delano: First Apgar -- 4. We need to get to the NICU. Call them and tell them we're coming.

Kendall: Can I just see my boy, please?

Joe: One sec.

Kendall: Go. Go, make sure the babies are ok.

Zach: I love you.

Kendall: Then go love the babies for me.

Doctor: So damn little.

Nurse: BP is steady at 100/65.

Doctor: Ok.

Ryan: I wish I could go in there, tell him that I'm out here.

Annie: He's sedated, Ryan.

Ryan: Oh, he'd know. He'd know. I could just talk to him. I could tell him that he -- that he can't leave us.

Annie: He won't, because he is strong and he is tough. And if he made it out of that incubator, he's going to make it through this.

Ryan: Or he won't. I mean, those are the options, right? Either he makes it or he doesn't.

Dr. Delano: Weight, 700 grams. We need a UAC and UVC for antibiotics, TPN, and lipids. Call X-ray and have a portable KUB. Let's prime the IV tubes with saline, hook up the BP cuff, and regulate the warmer. Watch the sats. Do we have labs and cultures on the mom?

Nurse: Yes.

Josh: How is he doing?

Zach: He's small. Fits in the palm of my hand. You were a doctor -- you saw this kind of stuff all the time. I'm a businessman and I don't get it. There's a little boy in there. His eyes don't work, his intestines don't work, his kidneys don't work. He just keeps going. I don't understand it.

Josh: You're right -- we don't see this in business. We don't see miracles.

Zach: That's a miracle?

Josh: Yeah. That kid is a miracle. Zach, you survived against your father, Kendall is surviving when no one thought she would. That's what you put into that kid, genes that make miracles.

Kendall: How long do I have to stay in here? I have to go see my babies. I have to go see them.

Nurse: I'm sorry, ma'am. This area is restricted.

Erica: That's good because my daughter needs her privacy.

Kendall: Mom, how's Spike? How's Spike? Did you know how he is? Did -- did they say how he is?

Erica: He's in surgery, honey, and he's fighting, just like you.

Ryan: I was ready to hand him over to her. I was ready to hand him over to Greenlee.

Annie: Don't, Ryan. I can't let you do this.

Jonathan: Ryan, your boy is in there right now, and absolutely nothing else matters.

Ryan: A parent's first obligation is to his child.

Greenlee: Spike?

Jack: Spike's in surgery right now.

Greenlee: And Kendall, what -- did they stop the labor? But -- it's too soon. The baby's too small.

Erica: Let's take this off. Please, sweetheart. Just -- just rest your eyes -- just -- just for a minute.

Kendall: I can't, I can't, I can't.

Erica: The second there's word --

Kendall: No. No, I have to stay awake. If I'm not awake, and they need me, that's not good.

Erica: They need their rest, honey, and so do you.

Kendall: They have to fix Spike, and they have to make sure that my new baby boy is ok. They have to help him.

Erica: They will.

Joe: We're done. He came through the surgery, but his condition is still serious.

Ryan: But, I mean, he was in there so long. I mean, the damage --

Joe: Ryan? He's stable. But the next 24 hours are critical.

Ryan: Whew.

Josh: How's Kendall doing?

Zach: She's terrified. I'm going to go check on Spike.

Josh: You -- you know what? You stay here. I'll go get an update -- I want to go see my nephew, anyway.

Zach: Yeah? Well, it sounds crazy, but I think he needs me here.

Josh: Hmm.

Zach: He needs me to keep him strong.

Josh: Doesn't sound crazy. You sound like a dad.

Ryan: I don't understand -- he should be here.

Annie: They probably have to do charts or something.

Ryan: I just want to touch him. I want to let him know that I'm here, because then he would know it's going to be all right.

Aidan: Hey. I heard the surgery was over.

Josh: How is he?

Ryan: His, um -- his spleen --

Josh: Did they remove or repair?

Ryan: "Repair" -- why? Is -- is that good?

Aidan: He's a strong guy, Ryan.

Josh: Yeah, well, anytime you can save an organ, that's a good thing. Did Joe say anything else?

Ryan: He said that he's, um -- that he's tough and that he's a fighter. How is Kendall?

Annie: The baby -- did he make it?

Ryan: Please tell me that he made it.

Josh: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he made it.

Annie: He must be so small.

Josh: Well, he's like Spike. He's -- he's a fighter.

Ryan: How bad is it?

Josh: Well, he's like Spike was, but --

Ryan: "But" what -- but worse? How -- how bad?

Josh: He's tiny, but he's tough. He's -- he's fragile, he hardly even looks real. His skin is practically transparent. But no one is going to let that kid go without a hell of a fight.

Erica: Do you feel it, Kendall? Bianca is holding your other hand. She may be in France, but her love is with you -- all our love, for you and your sons.

Krystal: Come on, Adam. Let me take you to PVH. Come with me, and we'll get you checked out.

Adam: Oh, go with you -- no, you're joking.

Krystal: All right, well, then go alone, or call Colby or J.R. You can call them up and tell them that you've reached your jackass limit, and you're not going to push them away anymore.

Adam: They deserted me. They've turned their back on me -- don't you understand? What portion of that don't you understand? No, scratch that -- of course, because I can understand why you'd be muddled by all this. You, my loving and loyal wife, having sex with Tad Martin -- I'm sure Derek Frye is in there by now --

Krystal: Oh, right, right, and you are the SOB who took my daughter and tried to give her to strangers --

Adam: 10 or 20 other guys down there -- are you charging them for it or they get freebies?

Krystal: Fine, fine. You win, Adam. I'm sorry I even came by here.

Erica: Oh, Zach. He's --

Zach: I know.

[Zach sighs]

Erica: They're taking Kendall back to her room now.

Zach: Stay with him for a while. He knows. Don't know how, but he does.

Erica: You are so loved.

Greenlee: In -- in the car, she said "four months."

Jack: That's right. Kendall had almost four months to go.

Greenlee: How big?

Jack: We were talking about you, I think. Not even two pounds.

Greenlee: Is the baby going to make it?

Jack: We don't know. We won't know that for a while.

Greenlee: Oh, my God. Kendall must be --

Greenlee: I was bringing him back.

Zach: Hey. How's Spike?

Joe: He's out of surgery, resting. His condition is serious, but stable.

Kendall: Well, does that mean that he's better, at you fixed whatever is wrong?

Joe: Yeah. We repaired his spleen, and now we wait.

Zach: Wait for what, for how long?

Kendall: Well, can I see him? I need to see him, I need to hold him.

Minister: Hello. I'm Reverend Carlton. I'll be performing the christening for your child. We can go now if you'd like.

Kendall: Um -- no, I never -- did -- I didn't -- did you --

Zach: No, we didn't request a christening.

Erica: I did. I thought it was best, given the circumstances.

Kendall: Given what circumstances? What circumstances, Mother? What, that -- that there's no way that my baby's going to make it? That there is no way he's going to come home with his mother and his father and have a christening with his family in our church? That my baby is going to die here in this hospital with some random nurse or some random doctor before I even get a chance to hold him?

Erica: No, honey, of course not! I never meant that!

Kendall: Get out -- get out! Get out!

Zach: Time for you to leave. Thank you. Erica, what are you doing?

Erica: I -- I -- I never meant any of this.

Kendall: Leave me alone! You leave me alone! You leave me alone! I want my baby, I want my baby!

Joe: No, Kendall --

Kendall: No, I want my baby! It doesn't need a minister. He needs his mother, and he needs his father, and I want my baby now, please.

Joe: Kendall -- Kendall, you've only just come out of surgery. I'm going to give you a sedative.

Kendall: No! No! No, no, give me my babies. Give me my babies!

Joe: Shh.

Kendall: I want my babies now. I want my babies now. I want my babies, Zach, I want my babies now.

Adam: Yes, the Chandler account. I want an arrangement sent to Pine Valley Hospital for Mr. and Mrs. Zach Slater. "My thoughts are with you and your family."

Krystal: Babe? Honey, tell me, tell me.

Babe: Kendall had her baby, and he made it, but he's tiny, Mama, and Spike just got out of surgery. They had to -- they had to sew up his spleen.

Krystal: Oh, good Lord. That's more than any family should have to go through in a lifetime.

Babe: Where did you go after the police station?

Krystal: Oh. Don't ask, honey, especially when you already know.

Babe: Why do you do that to yourself, Mama?

Krystal: I don't know. I guess I'm just not through banging my head against a brick wall named Adam Chandler. Oh, honey.

Tad: Whew.

Jamie: Greenlee had him?

Tad: Yeah -- well, she had him and then almost lost him for everybody.

Jamie: But he's ok?

Tad: You're the one in med school, idiot. Why don't you tell me. Or better yet, why don't you do me a favor -- give your old man a hug -- just for old time's sake.

Jack: I want you to get some rest. I'm going to go --

Greenlee: Please, just go and check on Spike and come back and tell me he's ok. Ok? Because he has to be.

Zach: Look at me! Your daughter loves you. She needs your help right now. So what are you doing? A chaplain? That's not the kind of help she needs.

Josh: Hey. I was just sending the love.

Zach: Thank you.

Josh: You're welcome. How's Kendall doing?

Zach: She's asleep by now. I shouldn't leave her alone, either.

Josh: I'll tell you what -- I'll go check on her.

Zach: Josh?

[Zach gratefully hugs Josh]

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Babe (to Ava): Today is your lucky day. You get another chance.

Kendall: I need to see my baby, Zach.

Zach: You will.

Kendall: What aren't you telling me?

Erica: Your daughter is sick, Jack, and I don't think you should be defending her.

Ryan (to Greenlee): I don't want you anywhere near my family -- now get out.
