[It's New Year's Eve in Pine Valley's ConFusion bar.]

Amanda: Hey.

Babe: Hi.

Amanda: Come here.

Babe: You look pretty.

Amanda: Thank you.

Babe: Happy New Year -- almost.

Amanda: You, too, yeah. The place is filling up. It's not the usual line-around-the-block --

Babe: Yeah.

Amanda: I guess, with the murders.

Babe: Yeah, it's not really the place people want to party.

Amanda: But here you are with your husband at home.

Di: So we can hang out down here for a little while. Let people know there's a Fusion gal here in the building, and then I'll head upstairs.

Aidan: I'm still not happy with it.

Di: Ok. Get over it. Del, hey.

Del: Hey.

Di: Can I get a diet soda on the rocks?

Aidan: No, no drinks, no food.

Del: I'm her brother, genius. You think I'm gonna V-tach her soda?

Di: No, he doesn't think that. You know what? Never mind. Cancel it anyway. Now, when I go upstairs, I will call you the minute I see or hear anything suspicious.

Di: Thanks for the good-luck action.

Aidan: That's not for good luck. That is a "I won't let you do anything stupid" kiss, all right?

Amanda: Hey, you guys.

Babe: So glad you made it.

Amanda: Good to see you guys.

Babe: Can you believe, almost New Year's?

Man: You, too.

Singer: It's not right to

[Babe stares at Josh who's leaning on the bar with a drink in hand.]

Erica: Oh, Jack. It's really beautiful.

Jack: Thanks.

Erica: Are there seven swans a-swimming out there?

Jack: No. No swans, just the two of us.

Erica: I really love the presents, Jack.

Jack: How about some sparkling cider?

Erica: Well, what better way to celebrate the joys of the season than with presents from the love of your life. I'll treasure them forever.

Jack: About those gifts --

Erica: What about them?

Kendall: You actually believe that? I mean, how can you ever think that you killed your

Zach: I have these dreams. I just keep having these dreams, and I --

Kendall: What -- what happened, Zach? Exactly, what happened?

Zach: I -- I can't, I can't. I'm sorry, I --

Kendall: You -- yes, you can, you can. You can do anything with me.

Zach: I was with her when it happened. I saw her fall. She fell to her death because of me.

Bianca: You're a lesbian woman?

Zoe: Now you know my secret.

Bianca: And you decided that a first date would be the perfect time to tell me?

Zoe: Now you understand, don't you, why we were destined to meet? Why you agreed to this evening?

Bianca: I agreed to go out with Zarf.

Zoe: Zarf wasn't who you wanted, who touched your soul. It's me -- Zoe. I couldn't come out until I met you.

Bianca: What's so special about me?

Zoe: What isn't special? I knew you'd accept me for who I really am. And you do -- don't you? I've put a lot on you, I know. I've never done this before.

Bianca: Neither have I.

Zoe: Oh, you've done so much for me, and I love you for that. Please say something.

Bianca: What am I supposed to say?

Zoe: Um -- say what you feel -- about me.

Bianca: It's not the answer you want to hear.

Zoe: I don't believe you.

Bianca: You want me to tell you that I love you. That I have been waiting my whole life for you. That I met you, and I thought to myself, "Man, if only he were a woman." I didn't. I don't. How can I tell you that I love you? I don't even know you. I don't know if any of this is real.

Zoe: It is real. Give it time. You'll understand.

Bianca: I don't want time.

Amanda: Hey, what's with Josh?

Babe: Nothing.

Amanda: You sure about that? I talked to him, and he's totally in love with you.

Babe: Tell me you're not doing this right now. You know that I have made my choice -- I'm with J.R.

Amanda: But not tonight. It's New Year's Eve. You know that ringing in the New Year's with a kiss is a sign of good things to come.

Babe: Stop it. You are terrible. J.R. is still recovering, otherwise he would be here.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Babe: Anyway, he insisted that I come. I am a partner here, and I have a company to look out for.

Amanda: That is not the company that Josh cares about. What are you doing? You look fine. I like your hair like that.

Babe: Thanks.

Amanda: Wait -- "You are loved." Not a present from your loving husband?

Babe: Josh -- Christmas.

Amanda: And you accepted it. You are not as done with Josh as you claim.

Babe: Give me --

Singer: It's just not right it took so long if you're not get out there but you better move, boy it's not right leave me alone

Josh: Jeff, it's good to see you. It's actually a good thing you're here -- keep me from doing something stupid.

Jeff: Well, you haven't taken your eyes off her yet. Ah, well, you have to make a decision about her, but it's not easy.

Jeff: Josh, the hell with the resolution. You love her, right?

Josh: Yeah, she's the only woman I ever loved.

Jeff: If you want her and if she gives you signs that she wants you, take advantage of the holiday. Make a new resolution -- resolve to win her.

Singer: It was so long

Jack: Forget about the gifts. I mean, what could be better than spending New Year's Eve with the love of your life?

Erica: Everything all right?

Jack: Yeah, sure, everything's great. I mean, look -- I've got you back. That's all I could ever ask for.

Erica: Well, can't wait to see what tonight brings.

Jack: Well, I can bring you a little preview here first -- dinner by candlelight, and then dancing on deck under the stars.

Jack: Oh, hey. Speaking of dinner --

Erica: Oh! Huh.

[A lady dressed as a swan dances in.]

Erica: The swan is swimming. Oh, Jack, you are too much.

Jack: Yeah, boy, huh? Too, too much. I'll be one second.

Erica: Oh, are you going to find the other swans a-swimming? Oh, isn't she beautiful?

Jack: Oh.

[A lady dressed as a milk maid comes in next.]

Erica: And where are the other maids a-milking?

Woman: On the dock, waiting to come aboard.

Jack: Oh, you know what? That won't be necessary, but thank you very much for your time.

Woman: Oh, no, no, no -- not until you try my specially made milk products.

Erica: Ah. Chocolate, my favorite.

Woman: From chocolate cows.

Jack: Uh, no, no -- none for me. I'm trying to cut down.

Woman: Oh.

Erica: And I'll give this to you.

Dancer: Thanks.

Erica: You must be exhausted from all your dancing.

Dancer: Mmm, this is good.

Erica: Ha.

Woman: Homemade.

Erica: I would expect nothing less. Jack, did you see anyone else out there on the docks?

Jack: Yeah -- no, no, no, no, no more surprises. No, I didn't -- oh.

Erica: Oh, nine ladies dancing!

Dancer: Swing your partner around and around jump off the deck and watch 'em drown

Erica: Whoo-hoo!

Kendall: How did it happen? How did your mother fall?

Zach: I was just a kid. You know, I was 5 years old and I -- she was standing there and -- and then she was gone.

Kendall: Well, then, it was an accident -- a terrible, horrible accident.

Zach: Yeah, that's what it was. It's a terrible, horrible accident -- that's what they told me. They kept telling me. I'd look at their faces, you know, and I'd just -- "What are they saying?" "Just let it go, just let it go." How do you let this go? How do you do that? Hmm?

Kendall: Listen, you do not have to do this alone.

Zach: Something missing here. It's always been something missing. The day my mom died, I -- there's so many gaps, I can't remember any of them.

Kendall: Ok. Well, tell me what you do remember. Come on, Zach. I'm your wife. I will stand by you no matter what happens. Now, I know this is hard for you, but I -- I'm here for you, so just tell me what you can.

Zach: What if I did this? What if I killed my mom?

Kendall: You couldn't have.

Zach: And how you know that for sure?

Kendall: Well, I do know that you weren't physically capable of pushing her over a ledge. You were 5 years old.

Zach: Huh, 5 years old -- you know what? Balance is something that even adults have a problem with sometimes.

Kendall: You know what? I'm trying to help you, Zach.

Zach: I'm not -- I don't need your help. I don't want your help. I'm sorry. It's -- it's something -- I just want to remember things. Ok? And I shouldn't have mentioned anything, so --

Kendall: Don't -- don't shut down on me.

Zach: Please. Let it go, forget it.

Kendall: No, I'm not going to forget it. I'm not going to forget it and neither will you. Now, this is something -- you're pushing this down and -- and you need to do something.

Zach: Kendall?

Kendall: You've got to find a way to deal with this.

Zach: Stop. I've dealt with it. It's done, I'm fine.

Zoe: I thought you were the one person that would understand me, accept me.

Bianca: Why? Because I'm St. Bianca?

Zoe: Because you saw me, you looked into me.

Bianca: I -- I saw a man. I -- I saw an -- an intriguing, eccentric man.

Zoe: No. You said you saw yourself. I believed you when you said you were attracted to souls. I thought that you would love me for who I truly am.

Bianca: You don't even know who you truly are.

Zoe: I was wrong. You can't see my soul, but I can see you clearly now.

Bianca: Why? Because you're wearing a dress, you're in my shoes?

Zoe: Because you worship labels, images, and expectations just like all the other narrow-minded people on this planet.

Bianca: Whoa -- um, just back up a second.

Zoe: You're so concerned with what I am that you've stopped listening. Gay, straight, man, woman -- those are labels other people put on us. You define yourself as lesbian, but so -- so it's all black and white to you. Well, guess what -- I'm gray, and you refuse to see anything outside of your slightly more expensive palette of labels.

Bianca: You're wrong.

Zoe: How am I wrong? Is it wrong to ask you to love me? Is it wrong to insist that I am a woman? And why is that wrong -- this body that I'm in?

Bianca: No, that's not what I'm saying.

Zoe: Well, what are you saying? Come on, let it all out. Tell me what you're really thinking.

Bianca: Ok. What I'm really thinking is that you have no right to judge me. You have no right to tell me that you have any idea what I feel or what I believe.

Zoe: Oh, you don't need to defend your beliefs -- your actions say it all.

Bianca: It's not that easy.

Zoe: Damn right it's not that easy. It hasn't been easy for years, staring into a mirror, not knowing who it is looking back. Why don't you do what my father did to me? Put me in front of that mirror. Scream it at me -- "Damn it, you're a boy." Hit me with every slur and label that popped into your head since I walked in that door -- pervert, freak, she-male!

Bianca: I would never, ever say those things.

Zoe: Oh, of course not -- you're too polite. You just keep them all in your head.

Bianca: Ok, you want to know what I'm thinking, what I'm really thinking? I don't know who the hell you are, but whoever you are, you're not playing fair.

Jack: Now there's something different this has been great. Really, it has, but it's getting close to midnight and my lovely wife and I would like to be alone --

[Knock on door]

Jack: I'll give you one guess.

Erica: Well, for heaven's sakes, Jack --

Erica: Oh!

Erica: Whoo!

Woman: Oh! Bravo.

Erica: Jack, come on. Wasn't that fantastic?

Jack: Fantastic.

Erica: Why are you looking at me like that?

Erica: Oh. Here come the pipers.

Jack: Yeah, I'll bet those dozen drummers can't be far behind.

Jack: Ah. All right, that's good. Thank you very much. Thank you.

Erica: Well, Jack, why did you do that? We were having such a good time. Why did you stop it? We were really loving your presents.

Jack: Yeah, those presents weren't from me.

Erica: What do you mean?

Jack: Those were your little gifts to me. You're trying to get back at me.

Erica: You're damn right I am.

Jeff: Erica's gone back to Jack. I never should've let it happen.

Josh: Yeah, but you're the good guy. You play fair. She said she wanted to be with him, you bowed out.

Jeff: You want to know my New Year's resolution?

Josh: What's that?

Jeff: Well, if the occasion ever presents itself again, no more playing fair.

Babe: Oh, it is no big deal.

Amanda: Oh. Oh, my gosh, Babe. What if J.R. finds this?

Babe: He won't.

Amanda: So you hide it, like you're trying to hide your feelings for Josh?

Babe: Ok, genius. How about you save the bar-chology for someone else because if I recall, you didn't have too much luck when you brought your feelings for Jonathan out in the open, did you?

Amanda: Oh. Ouch -- right here.

Babe: Thank you. Excuse me.

Man: Hey, you're one of the Fusion chicks, right? The ones that keep dying?

Babe: Why don't you have another drink, buddy?

Man: Whoa. Be nice. You could be next.

Josh: You think people dying is funny?

Man: Why don't you --

Babe: I'm fine. It's ok!

Josh: Come on, get this man out of here and away from Babe.

Bob: Let's go, pal.

Babe: Thank you.

Josh: That could've been the killer.

Babe: He was just a drunk.

Josh: You shouldn't be here.

Babe: Well, you don't see Kendall and Bianca here, do you? And Dani's dad wouldn't let her come, so it's me and Di.

Josh: You're the one I care about the most, Babe.

Babe: And I'm not going anywhere, because it can't look like we're running away.

Josh: I came here determined to follow through with my resolution. That involved you.

Babe: I don't need to hear it.

Josh: You're right, because I got rid of that one, and I made a new one, and this one -- you have to hear.

Aidan: So, are you cool with the plan?

Di: I got it.

Aidan: I just hope the killer falls for it.

Di: You ready?

Aidan: Almost. I will be after this.

[After Aidan gives Di a nice big kiss and she slaps him hard.]

Zoe: Maybe you don't love me. But I do love you, Bianca, for everything you've done.

Bianca: You came out because of me? You -- you waited all those years and -- and met me and then, wham, fling open the closet door?

Zoe: Yeah. I'm finally who I'm meant to be because of you.

Bianca: Oh, my God. Please stop making this about me. If you -- if you are a woman, it's not because of me.

Zoe: You gave me courage.

Bianca: I know what it's like to have a secret about who you are, what you want, what you need. And I know what it's like when you can't hold it in anymore. Oh.

Zoe: Which is why you helped me. You understand.

Bianca: No, I don't understand. You -- you don't come out because of someone. You -- you come out because you have to, because if you don't, you know that you won't survive.

Zoe: I'm here because a mirror finally didn't lie to me, a mirror that finally showed me the way out. That mirror is you.

Bianca: I'm not responsible for who you are. Whatever it is that you're going through, I can't make it right. Only you can do that.

Zoe: I need you to see me.

Bianca: Do whatever you need to do. Just leave me out of it.

Kendall: Ok.

Zach: No, no, no, no.

Young Zach: No.

[Zach recalls running toward his mom as she was falling backward off the balcony, but the person he grabs and pulls back is Kendall.]

Kendall: Hey, I'm -- I'm ok. I'm all right.

Kendall: No, no, Zach -- Zach, look, I'm right here. I'm fine. Now, what -- what did you see?

Zach: I don't know. It's -- it's this place. Something about this place. I remember things, you know? And I was standing with my mom. And she had this garden. She loved her garden. She was --

Amelia: Did you have a good time with Daddy? Oh.

Zach: Such a beautiful woman. And she kept -- you know, she would look at that garden and the flowers, and she would point them out. And then I -- I would name them. Whenever I did, she -- she would -- she would put her hand on my chest, and she would kiss me. But then, I remember, she -- she asked me about one, and I wasn't paying attention. I don't know what it was, but then I -- I said it wrong. And she kissed me anyway. That was my mom, you know? That was my mom.

Kendall: What else do you remember?

Zach: I don't know. I don't know, I don't know.

[Man and woman arguing]

Zach: There was yelling, you know? And there was somebody with her. I don't know why or who it was, but there was yelling.

Kendall: Who was yelling? I mean, was -- was it your mother? Your mother?

Zach: Well, maybe. I don't know. She -- I -- I don't think she was with me. I don't --

[Man and woman arguing]

Kendall: It's ok.

Zach: And then, the next thing I remember, she -- no, she was with me. She was. And -- and I remember I was looking at her hands, and she -- and -- she -- she just looked -- she looked frightened. You know? And she was standing right on the edge. And I -- I think I -- I went to hold -- hold --

Kendall: Zach, listen to me, Zach. You are not responsible for this.

Zach: And then she was on the rocks. She was just laying there, you know? And -- ugh -- she looked peaceful. She was sleeping. And I -- I yelled for her to wake up. She never did.

Kendall: Come here.

Zach: It's ok.

Kendall: Come here. Come here.

[Zach sighs]

Zoe: Who did you come out to, Bianca?

Bianca: It's none of your business.

Zoe: Did they tell you to do it yourself? Go it alone? Leave them out of it? Did they turn their back on you?

Bianca: You know, I didn't try to hit on the person that I came out to.

Zoe: Well, then that person wasn't for you.

Bianca: Neither are you.

Zoe: Can you honestly say that? Look at me, Bianca. Really look at me. I am the same person I was on that roof. My eyes say the same things. My heart says the same things.

Bianca: You were lying to me.

Zoe: Not one word I have ever said to you has been a lie. There have been too many years that I was lying to myself. When I met you, it was like the weight of that lie dropped away. You say you don't love me. But you're feeling something right now. You wouldn't react so strongly if you didn't.

Bianca: I react so strongly, because I don't appreciate the games.

Zoe: No games. There is something between us. And it's driving you crazy. Why? Because I'm a woman in a man's body?

Bianca: Oh -- There is nothing between us, feeling or otherwise. I don't believe you are what you claim to be.

Zoe: What? Don't you mean "who"?

Bianca: I'm done dealing with this. Leave. Now.

Di: Checking out other women all night, Aidan? Real classy.

Aidan: You know what? You have gone nuts.

Di: Nuts? No, it's you. You're the one that's gone nuts. You have been checking out this girl all night long. You think I haven't noticed? I've been standing right here.

Aidan: You know, this jealousy thing is getting real old.

Di: Oh, jealous? Well, I wouldn't really be jealous, now, if you hadn't done anything wrong.

Aidan: I'm done.

Di: Fine. I'd rather work than spend New Year's night with you.

Aidan: Well, do that. You know, I don't care what it is you do.

Babe: No, no, no, no. You are not going up there. There's not a guard on duty.

Di: I'm fine. I'm covered.

Josh: What the hell was that all about?

Babe: I have no clue.

Josh: Well, listen, you're still forgetting something. My resolution?

Babe: Stop it. I don't want to hear it. What I want for you in the New Year is love and joy and happiness.

Josh: Well, don't worry. I plan on getting it.

Babe: Without me. I want you to get it. I really do.

Jeff: I'm sorry, Josh. I -- I got to go. It's an emergency. You want her? Go after her.

Jack: I assume you know I didn't give you those presents before Christmas.

Erica: Whatever gave you that idea?

Jack: Erica, you're angry, and I get that. You want to punish me. I get that, too. Look, I am sorry that I didn't tell you.

Erica: Are you sorry that you didn't tell me? Or are you sorry that I found out?

Jack: I should have told you. But, sweetheart, we had just had this wonderful, wonderful Christmas. And then --

Erica: Your nephew and Colby Chandler sent me those presents, not you. I came home because I thought you wanted me to be home. Our wonderful Christmas together was based on a lie.

Jack: No, our wonderful Christmas together was based on love. Erica, I just found out about those presents myself.

Erica: Oh, I'm so happy for you. You know, that's really not the issue.

Jack: I've apologized. I don't know what else I -- look, I think Sean was just trying to help us.

Erica: The issue is not whether you knew about the presents, the issue is that you didn't send them at all. Your wife was at a hotel. And you didn't care enough to do anything to bring her home. In fact, the only thing that you did was that you sent all my things back to the Valley Inn. It was two high school students who had to show you how to romance your wife.

Jack: Look around, Erica. Romance has never been my problem.

Erica: Being stubborn has been.

Jack: Ok, look -- sweetheart, I'll make it up to you, ok? It'll be my New Year's resolution. Come on, we're here, we're together, and we love each other.

Erica: The truth is that you didn't care enough. You didn't lift a finger. You didn't even call. You've proven that you don't really care about me at all.

Jack: Erica, you move out of the house and you move into a room across the hall from Jeff Martin, and then you proceed to lead him on.

Erica: I did not know that Jeff Martinís room was there, and I never lead him on. Everyone --

Woman: Excuse me. I forgot my -- sorry.

Erica: Hmm. If you cared, you would have made some gesture to let me know that.

Jack: And by caring, I suppose you mean buying you bunches of expensive gifts and crawling back to you?

Erica: I don't care about gifts! I don't want any gifts! I don't want any presents from you at all! I just want you to understand me. And I don't want you to crawl, I just want you to -- to -- to know what I need.

Jack: Do you even know what you need, Erica?

Erica: A simple gesture. Something to let me know that you -- you were thinking of me. And that you were taking steps to -- to make sure that I knew that. But that's impossible. And you know what? I finally understand that I don't understand you at all.

Jack: Stop it. Just please stop and listen to me. You can fuss and fight all you want, but here's the deal. I made you a promise when I married you, and I intend to keep that promise. I don't care if I have to have the skipper weigh anchor and keep it out there until we -- no more maids or lords or leaping, or any damn thing, please?

Jeff: I -- I came as soon as you called. Is everything all right?

Erica: Yes. Yes, it is now.

Amanda: More champagne? Ooh, you look like you could use a drink.

Josh: Or six.

Amanda: Coming up. Hey, that compact you gave Babe -- it's really beautiful.

Josh: You saw it?

Amanda: She has it in her purse. And if she didn't love you, she wouldn't carry it around.

Bianca: Leslie?

Leslie: Hi.

Bianca: Wow. It's good to see you.

Leslie: Bianca, I had no idea you were back in town.

Bianca: Oh, yeah, long story.

Leslie: Well, last I heard, you found true love in Paris.

Bianca: Longer story.

Leslie: So sorry to hear that.

Bianca: You are not.

Leslie: That obvious, huh?

Bianca: Do you mind if I join you?

Leslie: Oh, of course. Can I get you a drink?

Bianca: No -- um -- let me.

Leslie: Ok.

Bianca: Del, can I have a bottle of your best champagne, please?

[Fusion's elevator door opens and closes and Zoe walks in while Di hides. After retrieving her drawing, Zoe turns around and sees Di standing in her way.]

Jack: Why'd you call him?

Erica: I need another date. Are you available?

Jeff: Yes, I am.

Erica: Is it New Year's yet?

Jeff: Couple of minutes.

Erica: That's good enough. Happy New Year, Jeff.

[Erica kisses Jeff.]

Erica: Can you get me out of here?

Jeff: I'd be glad to.

Leslie: You know, I was going to stay home tonight and watch the ball drop.

Bianca: Well, I am awfully glad you changed your mind.

Amanda: Come on, you guys. Come and get your bubbly!

Del: Almost midnight, everybody. Come and get it!

Man: Should auld acquaintance be forgot.

Amanda: Hey, you guys.

Del: 40 seconds till midnight. It's time to find someone to plant one on. Ladies, if you can't find Mr. Right, go for Mr. Right Now. I am available. 30, 29, 28 --

Del and Amanda: 27, 26, 25, 24, 23 --

Zach: After my mother died, the house was very quiet. Every room was quiet. All I could hear was people whispering. Until I walked in, and then that would stop. They'd look at me with this -- "It's not your fault. It's not your fault."

Kendall: It wasn't.

Zach: They kept everything out of the press. She died of natural causes, it said. Nothing natural about this.

Kendall: Why keep an accident secret?

Zach: They said my mother fell because I made her lose her balance.

Kendall: Oh, my God. Zach, you can't -- you can't blame yourself for this.

Zach: No, I don't remember anything. I just don't remember. I don't remember the fall, I don't remember right before the fall --

Kendall: It was -- it was an accident. Ok? It was an accident. Please accept that. You can't do this to yourself after all these years.

Zach: Well, I can't accept it. I can't forget it. Because the killer knows.

Di: Can I help you?

Zoe: Oh.

Aidan: You better have a good reason for being up here.

On the next "All My Children" --

Aidan (to Zoe): One drink. That's all we ask. What do you have to hide?

Bianca (to Zoe): What is this? Answer me. What are you doing here?

[While noisemakers sound, Josh kisses Babe.]

Josh: You want me, Babe. That kiss proved it.

Zach (to Kendall): I need you to leave, tonight. Please, I'm begging you.
