[Natalie Merchant sings "Kind and Generous" while big burly men in black guard the cemetery where a priest stands by as mourners arrive for Simone and Erinís funeral, including most of Pine Valleyís citizenry. Brothers Ryan (with Annie) and Jonathan (with Amanda) greet each other with a hug. Erica and Josh take their seats in front of Palmer, Myrtle, and Tad, while Jack and Lily sit behind them. Across the aisle sit Dixie and Joe with Di and Aidan next to them, Brooke, Julia, and Jamie behind them, and Jack, Derek, and Danielle in front of them. After exchanging furtive glances with Josh, Babe sits in front of him, while Erica reaches out for her sonís hand. Kendall and Bianca greet Ryan then take their seats next to Babe. Zach arrives and smooches Myrtle then sits beside Kendall and takes her hand.]

Singer: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. La-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la. La-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la. Hmm, hmm. Hmm. You've been so kind and generous. I don't know how you keep on giving. For your kindness, I'm in debt to you. For your selflessness my admiration. For everything youíve done you know Iím bound. Iím bound to thank you for it. †La-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la. La-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la. Hey, hey, hey-hey, yeah, hey. Youíve been so kind and generous. †I donít know how you keep on giving. For your kindness, Iím in debt to you, and I never could have come this far without you.

Priest: To laugh often and to love much.

Singer: For everything you've done, you know I'm bound to

Kendall: Anyone lucky enough to have met Simone or Erin know how kind and generous they were.

Singer: Thank you for it

Singers: La-la-la la-la-la-la

Kendall: But what you might not have known is how strong they were. They conquered adversity with courage and they fought like warriors for the people that they loved.

Singers: La-la-la-la-la, oh

Tad: So after about an hour of sitting there, feeling like a fool, I called her up on -- on her cell phone. I was going to give Simone a piece of my mind for standing me up. And to my amazement, she started screaming at me and said, "Where have you been? I've been here for an over an hour." I said, "No, you're not. I'm here." She said, "No. I am standing in front of the topless bar where you told me to meet you, you freak." And I said, "No, Simone. I told you to meet me at the Tapas Bar."

Tad: The thing I will always remember about Simone is she had a way of making me smile.

Singer: Thank you

Jonathan: My sister, Erin --

Singer: Thank you, thank you, thank you

Jonathan: She was -- she was the world to me.

Singer: Thank you thank you, thank you

Jonathan: And I -- I feel --

Singer: Thank you

Jonathan: I felt --

Singer: Thank you

Jonathan: I felt --

Singer: I want to thank you, thank you, thank you. I want to thank you, thank you

Jonathan: Sorry. I'm sorry.

Singer: Thank you, thank you. I want to thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you

Ryan: It's ok.

Singer: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you

[After Ryan consoles his brother, they place roses on the coffins. Then Kendall, Bianca, Danielle, and Babe do the same.]

Tad: So, now that you have two dead women on your hands, what are you doing about it?

Derek: Everything we can.

Aidan: Well, let us help.

Tad: All you have to do is tell us what you've got.

[Derek scoffs]

Derek: I'm going by the book on this one.

Aidan: Damn it, Derek. We canít afford to waste time.

Tad: There are people out there who think weíre pretty good at what we do. And if youíve got a serial killer on the loose, youíre going to need all the help you can get, especially two guys willing to go to the mat for people who meant the world to them.

Derek: If I need any help, I'll be in touch. Until then, keep an eye on your loved ones and stay out of my way.

Tad: So, I don't know about you, but I get the feeling he's got nothing.

Aidan: Mm-hmm.

Tad: So we're on our own.

Aidan: I'm going to take Di to the reception at Fusion.

Tad: Yeah.

Aidan: You coming?

Tad: Uh -- no. No, I'm hanging out here for a while.

Aidan: Right.

Brooke: It's like he's fading away someplace where nobody can reach him. What can we do?

Dixie: We could give him back his child.

Brooke: Do you have a new lead on Kate?

Dixie: No.

Lily: Iím so sorry that your sister died.

Ryan: Erin liked you very much, Lily.

Lily: I liked her a lot, too. She was a very nice person. The minister said that she was like a willow tree keeping everyone safe under her branches. And I donít normally compare people to trees, but I think thatís a very valid comparison.

Jonathan: Thank you for coming, Lily.

Jack: We're very sorry for your loss.

Jonathan: Thanks, Jack.

Jack: Ryan.

Ryan: Thank you, Jack.

Jack: All right, sweetheart.

Erica: Are you girls ready?

Bianca: Yeah, we should probably get going.

Zach: Are you all right? Going to be a little late getting to Fusion.

Kendall: Are you all right?

Zach: I just want to get some answers.

Josh: You ok?

Babe: I have to be for my son. Even though this is the absolute worst, J.R. and I are going to make sure Little Adamís Christmas is the best.

Josh: You and J.R.?

J.R.: Say it. Well, go ahead, Uncle Stuart. Aren't you going to tell me to kiss and make up?

Stuart: How do you feel about Babe?

J.R.: I -- I feel lots of things. I still love her. But it'll never be the same again. She betrayed me, she cheated on me. And I'm -- I'm hurt and I'm angry. And everything that I'm supposed to feel to forgive her Ė

Stuart: J.R., I Ė

J.R.: It's just not happening.

Stuart: J.R., I don't think -- I don't think forgiving is a feeling. It's a -- it's a choice. And once you make that choice, then everything else will sort of follow along with it.

All: Ah!

[Cheers and laughter]

Adam: I forget --

Stuart: I -- Adam.

Adam: I'm just getting --

Stuart: Adam hasn't partied all night long since he made his first million.

Man: Whoa! Let's hoist the hooch to our good pal, honorary trucker, and Daddy-to-be -- to Frosty!

All: Hey!

Man: Eat. And there's the little mama now.

Krystal: Oh.

Adam: Have you ever seen anyone as pretty as this?

Krystal: Oh, come on. I guess everything looks better after a couple of belts of single malt.

Colby: Is that beef jerky?

Man: It sure is. Like to try some, little lady?

Colby: I'll pass.

Adam: Uh, gentlemen, this is my daughter Colby.

All: Colby!

Adam: Why don't you -- go on, go try it. Give it a gnaw. They taste pretty good.

Man: Yeah. Krystal knows what's good.

Krystal: Oh. So sweet. Thank you for taking care of me and my man.

Adam: Oh -- "man"? Charlotte?

Krystal: Yes.

Adam: Yes, they -- they brought her a present. Wait -- present?

Singer: I wish I might

Krystal: Oh.

Colby: Yes, please, before I hurl.

Amanda: It's time to go, Jonathan.

Dixie: Hey. I was wondering if you wanted to come back with me and see J.R. I bought a bunch of Christmas gifts.

Tad: I'm going to stay here.

Dixie: Yeah, ok. Go ahead.

[After Dixie leaves, Tad looks up and sees Zach.]

Babe: You did a great job with the decorations.

Bianca: Oh, thanks. -- I didn't really know what to do with these -- I mean, hang them or -- or hide them.

Babe: You know, when I look at these, it reminds me what friends and holidays are all about.

Bianca: Hmm. Yeah -- love, kindness, forgiveness.

Babe: I think you made the right decision. I think they look beautiful.

Bianca: Good.

[Bianca gasps as Miranda and Emma run in.]

Bianca: What?

[Babe laughs]

Bianca: Oh, my goodness! I thought you guys were going to the Miranda Center for the Christmas party. Oh, Iím so happy to see you.

Claire: Aunt Kendall called and she said that everyone was sad.

Rachael: So she asked us to stop by and give out some little hugs first.

Bianca: Oh, wow.

Jack: Aw.

[Jack chuckles as Miranda runs up to Babe.]

Babe: Hey. Oh, my goodness. I missed you. Oh, thank you for the hug. I have an idea. Maybe you deserve some cookies if it's ok with Mom.

Bianca: Yeah.

Babe: Thank you.

Amanda: Are you ok?

Jonathan: I can't do this.

Erica: Ryan? Look, I don't know if this is going to be of any help to you, but when my mother died, I really felt that it would be impossible to go on. I mean, she meant everything to me. I didn't want to see anyone, ant to talk to anybody. I -- I mean, I just wanted to -- to disappear into my grief.

Ryan: And why didn't you?

Erica: Because of my family and my friends. And actually, it wasn't until that time that I even knew that I had friends. But my family and my friends showed me that my mother continues to live on through them. I hear her in -- in Myrtleís words, I hear her wisdom. I see her in Bianca and Kendall's eyes. And I feel her in -- in Miranda's smile. My mother is there, showing me, making sure that I know how many people love me. And Erin is doing exactly that thing for you right now. Through all these people right here, Erin is making sure that you know how much you're loved.

Ryan: Thank you.

Emma: Here's a cookie.

Ryan: Thank you, sweet little Emma. Can I have a bite? Can I?

Kendall: You haven't changed your mind, have you? I mean, you're still going to find out if -- if Emma is Ryan's daughter?

Josh: Yeah, well, I still think the chances are slim to none.

Kendall: But you'll find out one way or the other, right?

Josh: I told you I'd handle it, I'll handle it.

Livia: Would you two get back together so I can have a drink?

Jack: Livia, I'm afraid that's -- that's not my call.

Livia: Oh. It's hogwash. This is just a simple case of two hardheads who refuse to bend.

Jack: If I was a circus contortionist, I don't think I could bend my way out of this one.

Livia: Well, would you try, for my sake? Because I don't want the depressing task --

Jack: Livia?

Livia: Of handing out divorce papers instead of eggnog.

Jack: Livia, Livia, Livia, it's not -- it's not that simple.

Livia: Jack, don't throw away all these years. If today teaches you anything, it's to treasure the time you have with those that you love.

Jonathan: Erin took me skating here once to -- to help me forget about my troubles. She just wanted me to have fun. I couldn't stay at Fusion. Thank you.

Amanda: Well, stay here, then.

Jonathan: These last couple of days, I've been going through my life blindfolded. I haven't known where -- I haven't known exactly where I'm going or what I'm doing.

Amanda: It's ok. You're not alone.

Jonathan: I know, because youíve taken me by the hand and youíve led me through the entire thing. I couldn't have done this without you.

Amanda: Jonathan, whatís wrong?

Jonathan: Nothing. This. This, this, this -- this is what's wrong, because I -- I can't do this to you.

Amanda: You can't do what to me?

Jonathan: This. I can't do this to you, exactly what I'm doing right now. Amanda, I -- I'm taking advantage of you.

Amanda: You know I care about you, right?

Jonathan: That is exactly why it's not fair for me to --

Amanda: Hang on. Do -- do you at least care enough about me to tell me the truth?

Jonathan: The morgue, the funeral, having to leave Fusion, because I couldn't deal. You've seen it. That's the truth. You've been there with me through the entire thing and -- you're the closest friend I've got right now.

Amanda: Then don't insult me with some BS about how you're leading me on.

Jonathan: I'm not trying -- I'm trying to protect you, because I know how you feel. And I'm -- I do not want you to get hurt because you helped --

Amanda: Then don't feed me some line about how it's not right for me to be here for you right now. You said we were friends. Ok? This whole concept may still be kind of new to me. But, man, you suck at it way worse than I do.

Ryan: I have to say that I am very, very happy to see you all together. I'm very grateful that you came here. I'm very grateful that your mommy loves Spike.

[Music plays as Kendall watches Ryan interact with little Emma.]

Erica: I'm getting a lawyer, Livia. I'll give you a name next week.

Livia: Please don't. My opinion -- Jack doesn't want this divorce. Nobody in this room wants this divorce including you. So please -- think about it.

Ryan: Oh, thanks. Ok, made sure that he's got his little hat on, because it's freezing out there. Well, they always do have a blanket here just to keep him extra warm. I know -- I know he -- hello. Are you guys happy? All right, you guys.

[As soon as Ryan sets down his empty punch glass, Josh scoops it up.]

Annie: All right, guys, have fun. You're going to have a lot of fun.

[Annie chuckles]

Annie: Oh, yeah?

Ryan: Did you guys get your coats?

[Country music plays]

Krystal: I want to thank everybody here for keeping the truck stop tradition alive.

All: Hear, hear!

Krystal: And -- and to my dear hubby for embracing my friends and opening our home.

Man: And your Scotch.

Krystal: And your Scotch.

Adam: Yeah, well, who'd have thought that a marriage made in moonshine would lead to true love?

Krystal: Aw.

Singer: And he's mine

Man: Oh!

All: Oh!

Man: Whoo-whoo!

Ryan: Now, when you come back, I want you to tell me about all the fun that you had with Spike and Miranda. Can you do that? Yeah?

Emma: Why are we having a party today?

Ryan: Well, um, because Christmas is a time to show each other how much we love each other, and it's just really nice to spread it out. Ok? Ok. Now, up you -- stay right there.

Josh: Hey, Emma? It's the last juice box. Do you want a sip?

Tad: What? What the hell do you want?

Zach: I want to hire you.

Tad: Yeah. Right. Well, I'm sorry, but I think I'm booked.

Zach: You don't even know what the job is.

Tad: The only thing I know is I'm going to find the son of a bitch who did this.

Zach: Well, it turns out that's not your battle -- it's mine. That's why I need your help.

Tad: What's going on here? I spend one night at your blackjack table, you think that I owe you? You're here to collect -- is that it? Or God forbid, you're serious? You are serious. Huh. Well, what on earth could Mr. Know-it-all have that he would want investigated?

Zach: Me.

J.R.: How do I do it? My wife -- she cheated on me, she lied to me. How do I forget how that makes me feel?

Stuart: J.R., she lied to you, because she was so ashamed of what she did. But -- but you can't hold on to that. You just -- you have to make the choice and just let it go.

J.R.: How?

Stuart: Everyone makes mistakes. Mistakes are -- well, are what we -- that's how we learn to do better. If you always did everything right, how would you know how to do better next time?

Dixie: Ooh.

George: Sorry, you can't come out here.

Dixie: Oh, it's ok. Babe knows me.

Babe: George, it's -- it's fine. This is my mother-in-law.

Dixie: Yeah. Hi. Thank you very much.

Babe: Thank you.

Dixie: Whoo! Well, it's nice to know that J.R. is keeping you safe.

Babe: Yeah. I just -- I just needed to get some fresh air. I keep thinking if I stay up here long enough, maybe the cold will snap me out of this bad dream.

Dixie: Yeah. Well, I'm really, really sorry about what happened to your friends. If it's any consolation at all, I think you're handling it incredibly well.

Babe: Seriously? You have no idea how many times I've been close to losing it.

Dixie: Well, I certainly couldn't tell, and I've been watching you.

Babe: Hmm.

Dixie: You've been incredibly strong. I can tell you were really trying to be a good coworker and friend and mother and especially a wife.

Babe: Thank you. That really means a lot to hear you say that. Keeping my marriage together and my family -- it's what's most important.

Dixie: I really admire your -- your strength. And your mother's. I can really understand the choice that Krystal made.

Babe: Choice? What choice?

Dixie: Not to tell Adam or Tad.

Tad: You're a very bright man with a lot of resources. Why don't you use some of those resources, investigate this on your own? While you're at it, you could probably take a shot at making sense of you for the rest of us.

Zach: Ok.

Tad: Slater? If that has anything to do with Simone's murder, Erin's -- I want to hear about it.

Zach: There's a message in this, in these murders. There's a message for me.

Tad: What is that supposed to mean?

Zach: It means someone knows something about my past. Something, someone. And yeah, I think it was a stranger to Erin and Simone, but it's not a stranger to me.

Kendall: Ryan?

Ryan: Yeah?

Kendall: I think now is a good time.

Ryan: Ok. Excuse me.

Jack: Yeah.

Ryan: Can I have everybody's attention, if you don't mind, for a second? Thanks. Thank you. There really was only one place to have a reception for both Erin and Simone, and that's here at Fusion. This place and everybody that worked here meant so much to both of them. When I -- when I think of Simone -- the instant that she comes into my mind, I smile. And I know that's sort of hard to do right now. Believe me, I do. Um -- but let's try. So when -- when we think about Simone's beautiful bright eyes, or her incredible smile, or her unmistakable voice --

Kendall: Hmm.

Ryan: Smile. That's how we can pass on the joy that she passed on to all of us. Erin, um -- didn't have a lot of joy in her life for a very long time. But then she came to Pine Valley -- to Fusion. And she learned to laugh again. Now, she was my sister. But you all made her your sister, too. For that, I -- I just want to thank you. You know, a few minutes ago, I was with my son, and his cousin, Miranda, and his -- his new friend, Emma, and I saw the pure happiness in their eyes. And -- and Erin's -- her passion in life, her mission, her wish was that -- was that every child in every family would have a sense of that passion, of that happiness, of that peace. So to honor her, I just -- I guess I'm just asking that we all be kind to one another, be kind to the people in your lives. Be there for each other. Be there for each -- for each other. And -- and put love above all else. Thank you.

Kendall: That was really good.

Erica: It's a very sad day.

Jack: To be sure. But I got to tell you, along with the sadness, I feel pride -- Kendall and Bianca's strength through all this. You know, they get that from you. Hmm.

Erica: Thank you.

Jack: Yeah.

Erica: I think that your nephew Sean has certainly inherited some of your best traits, as well. He's much more sensitive. He's -- he's much more thoughtful and caring than I ever knew.

Jack: Sean? Our Sean? Sean Montgomery?

Erica: Yes. He stopped by my office. For some reason, he's gotten it into his head that he's the cause of all our problems.

Jack: Oh. Well, he shouldn't have interrupted you at work --

Erica: Oh, no, no -- I'm really glad that he did. He's very dear. And I was able to explain to him that whatever is going on between us, that that's our doing. It's not his fault.

Jack: Well, thank you. That was -- that was -- that was very good of you.

Erica: Well, Sean loves you very much. He doesn't want to see you unhappy.

Jack: It's nice to know he cares.

Erica: I care, too, Jack.

Amanda: You know, if any of my friends needed me -- Babe, Jamie, Brooke -- I would be doing the same thing for them that I'm doing for you.

Jonathan: Oh, Amanda, no. I am not trying to imply that I'm the only one you --

Amanda: "Love"? You can say it, Jonathan. I love them. And yes, I still love you. You know, we've talked about this. I'm very clear on where we stand.

Jonathan: What you've done for me -- your generosity -- totally selfless.

Amanda: No, stop. I'm not a martyr, and I'm not just doing this for you. Ok? I -- I'm also doing this for Erin and for myself. When my father died, so many people reached out to me. No conditions, no other motives. That kind of love -- that is what got me through. You know, and I'm just trying to pass it on, that's all. Look, I'm really sorry that I -- I need to go.

Jonathan: Wait. Amanda, stay.

Ryan: Hey.

Bianca: That was a really nice speech. Especially the part about the -- the kids. Thank you for saying that.

Ryan: It's true. Without them, I would be completely in the dark.

Kendall: Don't worry about Emma. I mean, I'm not upset that you didn't get the DNA sample from her today. I just think -- I mean, maybe you shouldn't even bother with it at all.

Josh: Now you tell me.

Kendall: Well, I mean, I thought I was sure, but I don't know -- after all this, I think maybe it's better that you don't get it.

Josh: Well, I did get it. So do you want me to do the test or not?

Krystal: I am just so tickled that you decided to do this. I mean, who knew that you were such a party animal?

Adam: Oh. I think I had more fun than anyone.

Krystal: Hmm? That's what happens when you get into the Christmas spirit.

[Adam chuckles]

Krystal: I hope you're up for more.

Adam: I'm up for anything, honey. Just so long as it's with you.

Zach: This is everything I know about me, past and present. Use it.

Tad: What I know about you is you're a very private man, and you like it that way. How far do you want me to dig?

Zach: No idea. Dig deep enough to find who we're looking for.

Tad: Zach -- you didn't answer the question. What's the link? The connection? What does this have to do with you?

Zach: A gardenia and a single white ribbon.

Jonathan: Your strength has helped me more than anything since Erin. I can't -- I can't imagine my world without her. And I can't imagine my world without you.

Colby: Did you come to call off our bet?

Sean: No. No way, why? You want to call it off?

[Colby snickers]

Colby: Hell, no. You're taking me to New York.

Sean: Yeah, if you get my Aunt Erica home by Christmas.

Colby: You get me to the Big Apple to see the ball drop.

Sean: No results, no rockin' New Year's Eve. Let's see what you got.

[Erica finds a little present on her desk and opens the envelope attached.]

Erica: "On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me all my love. J."

[Knock on door]

Jamie: You all right?

J.R.: How did Babe hold up?

Jamie: You don't care about Babe, but you ask me about her the second I walk in? What's the deal?

J.R.: I'm not sure.

Jamie: If you are just going to hurt her again -- if you can't go all the way, total love, total trust, just end it.

J.R.: What if I can, Jamie? What if I can go all the way?

Tad: The flowers and the white ribbon is a -- it's like a signature. How does that relate to you?

Zach: You're the investigator. Figure it out.

Tad: Ok. Let's say I do figure it out. I can make that connection. If I can, somebody else can, too. And that someone is out there right now, murdering innocent young women.

Kendall: Do it.

Josh: Are you sure?

Kendall: I have to know who that little girl's father really is.

Dixie: Well, itís a pretty tough call, although Iíd have to say Iíd make the same decision if I were in Krystalís shoes.

Babe: You keep going on about Mama. But I donít get what youíre --

Dixie: Itís ok. I donít blame her. I mean, it would destroy Adam to find out that she was carrying Tadís child.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Erica (to Sean): Did Jack send that to me?

Sean: Are there any other true loves you can think of?

Tad (to Livia): Why are you here?

Livia: I know who killed Greg Madden.

Babe (to Krystal): Dixie's about to blow the tinsel right off the tree.

Bianca (to Zach): I know your secret.
