[After looking at the front page of the ďPine Valley BulletinĒ with pictures of Simone and Erin under the headline, ďDouble Homicide at Cosmetics Company,Ē Zach remembers a beautiful young woman holding a white flower just like the ones Erin and Simone were wearing at the moment of their deaths.]

Woman's voice: I love you, you know, even more than I love the scent of these gardenias. You love them, too, don't you?

[Sitting down, Zach pulls out an old photo of the woman from his past out of his wallet and stares at it.]

Kendall: What do you have there?

[Not wanting Kendall to see the picture, Zach quickly slips it into his jacket pocket.]

Annie: Hi.

[Ryan enters his apartment and sees three of Erinís outfits laid out on the sofa.]

Annie: Erin's favorites. I -- I know you asked me to pick, but I thought you might want to make the final choice.

Ryan: Doesn't get more final than this. Which dress will my sister be buried in?

Josh: Where's everyone?

Danielle: Oh, well, anyone who didn't quit, Kendall sent home.

Josh: Well, Kendall took off, too?

Danielle: Well, Zach practically threw her over his shoulder. Took her home to see Spike.

Josh: Well, when did Babe leave?

Danielle: I didn't know she had. Zarf and I have been kind of into it. I'm going to go make some copies. You didnít see when Babe left?

Zarf: I'm surprised you ask -- ahem. You know where she is.

[Josh runs toward Fusionís rooftop.]

[From his sickbed, J.R. watches Fusionís news conference on TV and pauses it when Colby enters.]

Colby: Delete it, J.R., and delete Babe from your life.

J.R.: Not now, Colby.

[Colby sighs]

Colby: I know, I get it -- you're tired, you're hurt. But you don't have to do a thing. Just say the word, and I'll take care of the rest. I'll get the staff to pack Babeís stuff, we'll send her wherever. I'll get the guards to change the locks. I'll make sure she's gone for good. You do want Babe gone, right, J.R.?

Josh: Babe.

[Josh sees Babe laying on a chair with her eyes closed.]

Josh: Babe -- wake up! What are you --

Babe: What?

Josh: Well, I saw you and I thought it was like when -- when I found Erin.

Babe: I'm fine, Josh. Everything's ok.

Josh: God! Gee. Oh.

J.R.: Let's just do this some other time.

Colby: J.R., do you really want Babe to stay after you just saw her with Josh? You saw the press conference -- trusty Josh glued to Babe.

J.R.: It makes sense he was at Fusion -- his sisters work there. It makes sense for him to support them, to protect them.

Colby: After Erin Lavery died, he wasn't there holding his sister's hand. He was here banging on the front door for Babe. She totally wants him as much as he wants her.

J.R.: All right, just stop it, Colby.

Colby: Oh, I'm sorry, someone has to say it. Everyone is with Babe, even Dad, because of Krystal and that rugrat she's going to hatch. I am the only one on your side. I want to watch out for you.

J.R.: I don't need protecting.

Colby: Yes. Yes, you do. You are flat on your back, and Babeís majorly taking advantage.

J.R.: No one is taking advantage. If Babe and I get back together, it's because it's what I want.

Colby: Are you kidding? Back together? How could you even maybe want her?

J.R.: Colby, I still love Babe.

Babe: I am so sorry that I scared you like that. I just --

Josh: Yeah, Danielle didn't know where you were and then I come up here, and I see you laying there like that.

Babe: Hey, there's a guard on the other side of the door. I am totally safe up here.

Josh: Babe, no one is safe. No place is safe until that psycho is caught. What are you doing up here anyway?

Babe: I -- I came up here about the time that Erin must've died. When the sun was going down, I -- I guess I just wanted to be with her. It's kind of weird, huh?

Josh: You're talking to the guy who planted himself in a coffin to deal with death.

Babe: Oh. This used to be my favorite place. And now I've lost my friend here. Josh, since we got together, so many horrible things have happened, I --

Josh: Babe? You and I making love here did not knock the world off its axis. Bad things happen -- it's not our fault. And I got to tell you, what happened between you and me -- that's right here, for the rest of my life.

Danielle: I'm so sorry about Erin.

Jonathan: Thank you.

Amanda: Jonathan just wanted to get her things.

Danielle: Oh, you don't have to do that. I'll take care of it.

Jonathan: I want to. I have to. Erin took on so much for me. She protected me from our dad and myself. You know, when most people would have given up, Erin -- she dug in even more, because she loved me, so she helped me through it all. It's just there's so much that I wanted to do for her. And now --

Danielle: Aunt Livia? Oh. I thought you were out of town until next week.

Livia: Hmm. Your father called to tell me about Simone and Erin, and I just -- I caught the first plane back. How are you doing, sweetheart?

Danielle: I'm trying to be strong, you know, do the right thing for Erin and Simone. But I'm scared, and I don't want to be scared.

Livia: We will get through this together. Ok.

Livia: Jonathan, there are no words. Is there anything that I can do?

Jonathan: You can bring my sister back.

Ryan: I don't care -- you choose.

Annie: I understand that this is so hard for you, but you're her brother. I think she'd want you to choose. I'm going to go check on Emma.

[Picking up one of his sisterís shoes, Ryan finds a penny inside.]

Zach: How about a nice glass of wine?

Kendall: I don't want any wine. I want to know what's in your pocket, because obviously it's bothering you.

Zach: Nah, no. It's casino stuff. I, I'll -- I'll deal with it.

Kendall: Ok. Well, I'm your partner at the casino, so share.

Zach: You lost two of your friends. Let me take care of this.

[Knock on door]

Derek: I want to talk to you -- alone.

Kendall: Is this about Simone, because I have to know.

Derek: There's nothing substantive.

Zach: You've been worried about Ryan. Why don't you go see him?

Kendall: Ok, ok. I know what you're trying to do, but I do want to check on Ryan. So you'll tell me everything when I get back?

Zach: Sure.

Kendall: Ok.

Zach: Car is waiting.

Kendall: Ok.

Derek: Now, I've asked this before. I'm still waiting for the answer. When Simoneís body was found, the first word out of your mouth -- "murder." How did you know that?

Zach: Are you looking for an answer or a confession? You couldn't tag me for Maddenís murder, so now you want to get me for the Fusion killings.

Derek: I don't want to tag you -- I want to take down a serial killer.

Zach: So Erinís cause of death is same as Simoneís?

Derek: Same drug -- V-tach -- and my daughter's at risk. Now, I'm going to stop this guy with or without your assistance.

Zach: What, us working together?

Derek: We meet for beers at the end of the day. My question remains -- how did you know Simone was murdered?

Zach: I don't know. I just -- I know Simone wasn't suicidal, and she wasn't using drugs. Just the way she was, with -- with the gardenia and the ribbons, I think someone killed her and laid her out and added props.

Derek: And Erin was a variation on the ritual. Now, Ryan tells me you're checking this Zarf character. So are my men.

Zach: Anything?

Derek: He was busted for smoking pot a couple of times when he was younger. No other criminal record. And what's your take on Zarf?

Zach: Serial killer, I don't think so, but there's definitely something off about the kid.

Danielle: I collected Erinís things. I left some boxes for you near them in the storeroom.

Jonathan: Thank you.

Livia: You have been here long enough.

Danielle: Oh. I'll go home soon.

Livia: You will go home with me now. Your dad is going to think and breathe this case until it is solved, and he needs to know that you are safe. So you are going to stay with Tom and me for the duration.

Zarf: Go ahead. When Babe comes down, I'll work with her.

Livia: Oh, my God. Zarf? I mean, is it Zarf? Here? Oh, my -- I love your music. Ask Dani, ask my husband. Oh, my God, your -- your -- your lyrics, the sound. It's just so original and tough and -- "Transitions," oh. Brilliant. Is it you? Is it you? Oh, my God! Oh, my God!

Zarf: Yes, it is!

Danielle: Zarf, this is my Aunt Livia.

Zarf: You have power, and you know how to use it. A woman in this world needs power.

Livia: Well, thank you. But right now, my niece really needs some TLC. Oh, my God. Ok.

Danielle: You ready?

Livia: Yeah!

Danielle: I'll be in first thing in the morning.

Zarf: Of course, you will.

[Zarf chuckles]

Livia: Oh, my God.

Danielle: I know.

Jonathan: What is this?

[Knock on door]

[Knocking continues]

Kendall: Oh, good. I was hoping you'd be here. Can I come in? How are you doing?

Ryan: Fine. How's my little Spikeman?

Kendall: He's asleep. Gave me the perfect chance to come over and check on his father.

Ryan: How's everybody at Fusion? Did they get home all right?

Kendall: We're fine. Will you talk to me, Ryan? I'm worried about you.

Ryan: What do you want me to say? Erin's dead. And it's horrible. It's beyond horrible -- it's beyond belief, but I'm -- I'm dealing.

Kendall: Well, I know how much you loved her.

Ryan: Look, Kendall, you've lost two friends one right after the other. This is what I want you to do Ė I want you to go home. I want you to give Spike a kiss for me. I want you to tuck him in. Just get some sleep, all right? I'm fine. I am, really. Come on.

Kendall: Ok. If you need anything at all, anything, will you please call me?

Ryan: Yes, I will.

Kendall: Ok.

J.R.: Babe swears that she wants a life with me, she swears that she loves me. Now, if it's true, maybe Babe and I have a chance. But if it's not true, I'm going to rip Little Adam out of her arms and make her pay with every breath that she takes.

Colby: Whew, thank God. You really are getting better.

J.R.: Nobody jacks me around, Colby. But I have to let this play out to see where it goes.

Colby: Fine. But I'm going to help you.

Babe: Did Erin and Simone suffer?

Josh: The V-tach works fast. You take too much and your heart speeds up and then it just stops. It wasn't painful or violent. They didn't suffer.

Babe: They were just here, alive and laughing and now -- please don't. If you touch me right now, I will break into a hundred pieces.

[Jonathan and Amanda look at Erinís collage of pictures from her life.]

Annie: Did you choose one?

Ryan: I'm going to take them to the funeral home and have them choose.

Annie: Are you sure? I mean, we can -- tomorrow morning, maybe you'll decide --

Ryan: I'm sure.

Annie: Ok.

Ryan: When Erin was a little girl, she -- she had a friend who had a pair of penny loafers, and her friend told her that the penny brought good luck. My folks couldn't afford the penny loafers, and Erin really wanted to have good luck, so she -- she just put the penny in her shoes even now.

Annie: Oh. There's more. Say it.

Ryan: When I first ran away from home, I -- the first night, I crashed at a friend's house. When I got there, I took off my boots, and a coin fell out, and I realized that Erin had put it there to give me good luck. My kid sister was looking out for me.

Annie: It's ok to grieve, Ryan. It's ok to cry.

Ryan: Oh. No, it's not. I don't deserve to.

[Door opens]

Kendall: Oh. Ok, so, what did Derek say?

Zach: Not much. Same drug, same killer. We're going to share information.

Kendall: Good. Good, that's -- that's good.

Zach: What's going on? Ryan?

Kendall: Yeah. He's just -- it's -- it's just worse than I thought. He's completely shut down. It's exactly the same way that -- that you were when Ethan died. I don't understand. I mean, why do you guys do that?

Zach: Well, it's pretty easy to understand, you know? You feel responsible. You're supposed to protect people that you love. You're supposed to be there for them. If something happens, you -- you think it's your fault, you know, and you should've -- you should've been there for them. You should've -- you should've protected her and saved her.

Kendall: Hey. What's going on with you?

Zach: Nothing. I was just remembering you in the hospital, and it just seemed --

Kendall: Yeah, yeah, well, that -- that wasn't your fault. That was J.R.ís. And Erinís death was not Ryanís fault. It was some crazy killerís. Now, we're going to get this son of a bitch, for Simone and for Erin.

[Spike cries]

Kendall: Be right back.

[Knock on door]

Zach: Hey.

Man: The info you wanted.

Zach: Thank you.

[Ryan takes a drawing out of a brown envelope of a reclining young girl holding a white flower in front of her.]

Kendall: Well, look who's up for a snack.

Zach: Hey.

Kendall: Huh? You all right? Hey. Hey. Say hello there. So who was at the door?

Zach: Yeah, this -- that thing at the casino, it's worse than I thought, I got to go take care of that.

Kendall: Hmm.

Zach: Bye. Hey.

Kendall: Wait a minute. Are you really ok?

Zach: I'm good. I'm good. Just do me a favor. Don't open the door to anybody.

Kendall: Ok. Well, you have your armed galoots out there protecting me, so I'll be fine. Ok.

Zach: Give me a kiss.

Kendall: All right, kiddo. Well, you and I have a crisis of our own to take care of.

Ryan: I'd better get to the funeral home.

Annie: Erin was your sister, and you loved her, and you don't know if you're going to be able to live your life without her.

Ryan: Why -- why are you doing this?

Annie: Because you need to grieve, Ryan. You're allowed to cry. You need to do whatever you have to do. You had a sister who -- who thought you were a hero.

Ryan: I abandoned her, Annie. I'm no hero. Ok? Jonathan and Erin were kids, and I left them with a father who tortured my brother, and a mother who didn't give a damn. I just wanted to get out. I wanted to get out, free of it. But I should have stayed. I should have taken care of them. They were kids. But all I cared about was me, my pain. And they suffered because of it for years. So I don't get to feel pain right now.

Annie: That's not true.

Ryan: I'm just going to do what I should have done then. I'm going to be there for my brother. I'm going to get him through his grief and through his pain. I'm going to be there for my sister. I'm going to find her killer. And I will make him pay. I'm not going to let them down. Not this time.

Jonathan: All these years, it -- she kept this.

Amanda: I didn't know that Erin was a comic book fan.

Jonathan: She's not. She wasnít. She's not a comic book fan at all. She was -- she was a Ryan Lavery fan. And he gave this to her right before he left.

Amanda: Well, what's up with this?

Jonathan: Ok. No, this is because of this job. I -- she was nervous about -- about if she would do the right thing or if she'd make the right decisions. So -- I mean, maybe the business drop-out whiz that -- that I am, I gave this to her and told her it was all she was going to need. And that and her instincts, and she'd be fine.

Amanda: "Yes." Erin loved her big brother Jonathan very, very much.

Jonathan: We were finally there, Erin, Ryan, and I. We were a family. All that bad stuff was behind us, and there was nothing but good things to come and --

Amanda: Oh.

Jonathan: Spike was the beginning of all that. He was -- he was -- she was the best aunt, ever.

Amanda: Yes, she was.

Jonathan: It's from Simone. "Dear Erin, Danielle got it right. The women of Fusion -- one big happy urban tribe. Anything, day or night, always. Love, Simone."

Amanda: Everyone says that Fusion is more of a family than a job. Do you want to keep anything else?

Jonathan: No.

Amanda: I'm going to go get the rest of her things.

Zarf: When I saw your sister, I saw a woman of kindness and generosity. Loyal, wise, an old soul.

Jonathan: There was no one like her.

Zarf: She understood you, defended you, loved you. You have that. Her death can't take that away.

Josh: I gave you my word. I'm not here at Fusion to make a play at you. I just want you to be safe. I want my sisters to be safe, and Dani, too. That's it. That's the priority. As soon as they catch this killer, I'm gone.

Babe: I just keep hoping that I'll wake up, but it keeps getting worse.

Josh: You're exhausted. Go home.

Babe: Yeah, but I need to finish the campaign projections.

Josh: Babe, not tonight.

Babe: You don't get it. I need to be here. I need to work. I need to fight for Fusion.

Josh: And you're fighting for your marriage. That's two major battles. Who are you?

Man: Name's George Spencer.

Josh: How did you get past the guard?

George: Mr. Chandler hired me to guard his wife.

Babe: J.R. hired you?

George: He wants to make sure you're protected 24/7.

Colby: You can't find out if Babeís telling you the truth from that bed. You need someone to be your eyes, and I can do it. I'll get an internship at Fusion.

J.R.: No. Look, you're not going anywhere near Fusion, not with some psycho killer stalking the halls.

Colby: I'll be careful.

J.R.: Forget it. I'm not going to take a chance on losing you.

Colby: You really do care about me.

J.R.: I love you. And I love the fact that you want to help me, but it's not going to happen. Promise me -- no spying on Babe or Josh.

Colby: All right. Fine. You are so not fun.

J.R.: Yeah. But I love you.

Colby: I love you back.

J.R.: Oh, and, Colby -- no funny business.

Zarf: Where's Babe?

Josh: She went home to her husband and her little boy.

Zarf: The night I met you and Babe, I had never seen an aura like hers. Sparks, dazzling. The energy --

Josh: You sure it wasn't too many gel shots?

Zarf: The fire, the glow. It was because she was happy. She was happy, because she was with you.

Josh: Babe doesn't want me. She wants to be with her husband.

Zarf: And it's obvious what you want. But do you know what your destiny is?

Josh: You know, why don't you just save it?

Zarf: Maybe you're the one that needs to save it, Josh. Maybe you need to save Babe.

Man: So, you and your boyfriend, Josh Madden -- is it serious?

[Colby gets into Joshís Valley Inn room and sets up a camera to spy on him.]

Colby: Oh, yeah. As a heart attack. Let's see. Whew. State-of-the-art nanny cam. This is so good. Ugh. All right. The lights, angle -- perfect. "Cheating skank wives gone wild -- the uncut version." Hmm, this is great.

J.R.: You're back.

Babe: George just brought me home. He really sticks close.

J.R.: That's what he's paid to do.

Babe: It was really sweet of you to hire him for me.

J.R.: I did it for Little A.

Babe: I'm going to go kiss our son. I'll see you in the morning.

J.R.: I saw the press conference. The women of Fusion standing strong. And Josh, right behind you.

Babe: He was there. He stayed until I left, until they all did.

J.R.: Very concerned.

Babe: His sisters work at Fusion. He's concerned about everybody.

J.R.: Your body tops the list.

Babe: What exactly is Georgeís job? To keep an eye on Little Aís mama, or to spy on your cheating wife?

Jonathan: Erin loved it here. She loved the work. She loved -- she loved her friends. This is one of the places where she was the happiest. Ryan, the other day, before Erin left for work, we were talking about Christmas. She had about a million plans. She was so excited, because this would be the first Lavery Christmas with her nephew. She wanted to do it up just right.

[Taking Amandaís hand, Jonathan leaves Fusion with Erinís belongings in a box under his arm.]

Ryan: That's great.

Annie: She said it was all because of you. Because you brought her and Jonathan here. Because you gave them a home. You -- you gave them a life. You made them a family again.

Ryan: A little late.

Annie: Ryan, whatever happened in the past, Erin was over it. Jonathan, too. She loved you. She was proud of you, proud to be your -- your sister. You loved her, and she knew that. That's what matters. And you're hurting right now. That matters, too. You deserve to feel it, Ryan, the love and the pain. The pain for the -- for the sister that you loved, for the sister who loved you.

[Ryan finally breaks down and cries in Annieís arms.]

J.R.: I asked my mom and dad to get you security before I ever even knew Josh was at Fusion. And if I wanted someone to spy on you, trust me, you wouldn't even know that they were there. George is strictly for protection. The only thing that I'm interested in is you safe.

Babe: For Little A.

J.R.: I don't want you to die, Babe.

Colby: Oh, let's see what this puppy can do.

[After setting up the hidden camera through the alarm clock on Joshís nightstand, Colby lays down on his bed acting like Babe and Josh in each otherís arms.]

Colby: Ok. Let's see. "You're so cute, Josh. Oh, Josh. Oh, Josh -- Josh, you're so cute." Oh, this is going to be so good.

[Josh walks in and finds Colby writhing on his bed.]

Zarf: You're too late. They're all gone. Even the guard up here.

Zach: Good. I'm here to see you.

Zarf: A rapprochement? An apology of sorts?

[Zach holds up the drawing of the supine young woman in front of Zarf.]

Zach: Who is this woman? And why did you kill her?

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Colby (as Kendall grabs her by the hair and drags her out of Joshís room): Ow!

Kendall: Get out, now! You nasty little skank, now.

Colby: Oh, this is assault!

Josh: This is great.

Zach (to Zarf): Did you put that note under my door? How do you know about her?

Bianca: Zach, what are you doing?

Jonathan (to Ryan): We picked up Erinís stuff and found something.
