J.R.: I told you I wanted Babe gone. I thought we finally understood each other.
Adam: I do understand, son. But I think it would be best for the family --
J.R.: I am family. What about what's best for me?
Babe: I just wanted to be here for you, for our marriage.
J.R.: You bought this load? You trying to ambush me --
Krystal: It's not a load, J.R.
Jamie: Hey, calm down.
Dixie: Shh. Really, sweetheart --
J.R.: Then you need to get Babe out -- agh!
Julia: All right, that's it. Let's get him back on the bus. There's no way this patient can recover here.
Erica: I'm swamped. We'll do this another time. Move it.
Sean: But I'm here now.
Erica: Sean, whatever is on your mind, it's just going to have to wait till a much more appropriate time.
[Sean grabs Erica and gives her a passionate kiss.]
Erica: Hey! Have you lost your mind? What the heck was that?
Sean: That was "good-bye."
[Jonathan sits at ConFusion’s bar reading the Pine Valley Bulletin with Simone’s picture on the cover and the headline “Cosmetics Executive Found Dead.”
Aidan: You and I have some unfinished business.
Kendall: What killed her, Zach?
Danielle: I don't even think I want to hear this.
Ryan: How you doing?
Erin: I'm doing better.
Erin: Mm-hmm -- or I will be as soon as Zach tells us what he found out.
Ryan: What, you know something?
Zach: Straight from the ME.
Danielle: Was it an allergic reaction to food or medicine or --
Kendall: It must've just been some weird medical condition, right?
Bianca: Just say that it was quick and painless.
Kendall: So Simone died of natural causes, then, didn't she?
Zach: There's nothing natural about the way that Simone died.
Ryan: Maybe we should talk about this in the other room. I mean, you guys have already had a rough enough time as it is. I just --
Bianca: No, no. Ryan, we hear this together.
Ryan: Ok. Yeah. So, what do you got?
Zach: The coroner ran a tox screen. She died of a drug overdose.
Kendall: No. What?
Erin: That is not possible.
Kendall: No way.
Erin: Was Simone on medication that we didn't know about?
Zach: It's a drug used by vets. And proper dosage and situations, not lethal, but apparently it's found a new audience -- called V-tach.
Danielle: Oh, I've heard of that. It's like a club drug for party animals, but it's not that popular. The death factor kind of crimps the ride.
Ryan: You telling me Simone was partying with this?
Bianca: This doesn't make any sense. Simone on drugs?
Kendall: No, no. I'm telling you, Simone’s only drug of choice was what it's always been -- chocolate. That's it. This -- this is wrong. The coroner's wrong.
Ryan: Maybe she took it accidentally. Maybe --
Zach: Or maybe somebody gave it to her on purpose.
Aidan: Ugly business, that, isn't it? It's a real shame about Simone. It's going to be hard on everyone. It really makes you re-evaluate things, doesn't it?
Jonathan: Aidan, when I thought Annie was going to lose Emma, I took it way too far.
Aidan: Same here. It really felt like Tad and Dixie were so close to finding Kate, I almost lost it with anyone that got in my way.
Jonathan: But, hey, it's over now.
Aidan: Yeah. Everyone's back in their own little corner. Me and you used to be in that same corner. Remember that?
Jonathan: Yes, I do. Things were -- things were a hell of a lot better then.
Aidan: Yes, they were. And things can be that way again. If something comes up, me and you can take it on.
Jonathan: Same corner?
Aidan: Yeah. That way, you won't run the risk of me hurting you next time.
Jonathan: Who's to say I wouldn't hurt you?
Erin: I want to know why, I want to know how, and I want someone to pay.
Erica: If that bizarre display was "good-bye," what are you still doing here? I mean, shouldn't you be at school?
Sean: When I leave, it won't be to Physics. It'll be into the great unknown.
Sean: Funny. Your sense of humor -- going to miss that. When I walk out that door, it's forever.
Erica: Are you leaving town?
Sean: You wanted it, you got it.
Erica: Does your Uncle Jack know about these plans?
Sean: He doesn't need to. Uncle Jack will clue in when you move back home -- with me out of the way. You know, I'd like to stay and help you pack, but I got places to be.
Erica: Sean -- Sean, you can't possibly believe that you're the reason for the problems I have with Jack?
Sean: I'm Barbara’s spawn, ok, put on this earth to save my sister's life and to tank marriages -- no one does it better.
Erica: Sean, there are so many reasons --
Sean: Look, my dad loved you. He lost you because of me. Casa del Montgomery wasn't always happyville -- ask Bianca. But he stayed. He stayed. He gave up love and happiness for me, and then he died. And I'm not going to let the same thing happen to my Uncle Jack.
J.R.: Stop! I'm not leaving.
Julia: This craziness is the last thing you need. Tension, stress, anger -- it amps your pain and it threatens your recovery.
J.R.: Look, I'll deal with it. I'm fine.
Julia: Well, what do I know? I'm just a nurse. Let's get him settled in.
J.R. Look, I'll be fine as soon as Babe leaves. Just make it happen, Dad.
Dixie: I'll be in soon, sweetie, ok?
Babe: Maybe this was a bad idea. If me being here is going to make him worse --
Colby: Oh, finally -- step up and do the right thing.
Adam: Colby, honey, do you have any homework you could be doing, or maybe go back to school?
Colby: You want me anywhere but here. I get it. Just don't talk her out of leaving, ok?
Babe: When I found Simone, she was -- she was so still and so cold, and a few hours earlier, she was grumping around the office on all sparks. And then out of nowhere, she's dead in one heartbeat. Life is too short and there's been way too much suffering, and I thought that maybe I could fix it for J.R. and me, but maybe I was wrong.
Krystal: You did your best, Babe.
Dixie: Krystal, would you mind? Can I talk to her for a little while?
Krystal: Come on. Babe's right about one thing -- there's too much suffering.
J.R.: If Babe’s not gone --
Julia: You keep blowing up, you're going to end up in the hospital.
J.R.: I'll manage.
Julia: You better get that BP down, or --
J.R.: Or what?
Jamie: Listen to her, J.R.
J.R.: Look, I know Julia was some big help on that boat looking for Babe. But that was when I could walk away if there was something I didn't like that came out of her mouth. You know, you need to get your woman in check.
Jamie: Get yourself in check.
J.R.: Why don't you get the hell out of here and take her with you?
Jamie: Is this the part where I'm supposed to feel sorry for you? Because I don't. You did this to yourself. You're the reason you're in pain. Now, Julia can make that pain better. So how about you show her a little respect and maybe a little gratitude? She doesn't have to be here. I'm sure she has better things to do, and she sure as hell doesn't have to listen to your crap. So shut the hell up, or there's going to be nothing left in this room but you and your pain. It's up to you.
Julia: Ooh -- silence. I'll take it. Well, how about we release some of those endorphins and relieve some of the pain, huh? Your hand, please?
J.R.: You want to take away the pain? Get Babe Carey out of my house.
Babe: I thought that this would work. I thought that if J.R. saw that I wasn't going anywhere, that he would give just enough that we could work through things. But I guess I was wrong, and I should go. But I can't go. I can't -- I can't leave Little Adam here. Simone died with -- without a husband, without a baby, all alone, and I'm not going to give up on my family. But then at the same time, I don't want to take J.R.’s away from him, so what am I supposed to do?
Dixie: Well, maybe J.R. has had it too easy. I mean, when things have gotten difficult, what has he done? He's turned to drugs, alcohol. He took a steamer around the world rather than face his problems.
Babe: Yeah, and he brought back an even bigger one.
Dixie: He's hurt himself, and he's hurt a lot of people who care about him. But this time he can't run. And as painful as it is to see him in that bed, in pain and dependent, maybe now he will finally learn what it is to stay and fight.
Babe: He could also fight me right out of the house.
Dixie: Well, J.R. is pretty stubborn, I agree. But so are you. And with everything that you've been through and everything that you've done to each other, any other woman would've given up on my son a long time ago.
Babe: He's never given up on me, either. But now I just -- I'm not so sure. I don't know.
Dixie: You know, I'm really sorry about your friend Simone and that she died all by herself. But you're right. Nobody should have to die that way. And nobody should have to live that way, either.
Kendall: Simone can't be dead, but -- but she is. And she couldn't have taken that -- that party drug, but she did. And -- and now you're trying to tell us that she was killed?
Ryan: We'll get the answers, Kendall.
Kendall: Well, then ask a reasonable question.
Zach: Fine. Was anything different about Simone? Did she go out and have lunch with someone she didn't know? Did she come in early, want to leave late?
Danielle: She was just Simone. She flew in late with her double soy latte and a speeding ticket.
Kendall: Yeah, it was a totally ordinary, typical Simone day.
Zach: What about the gardenias?
Danielle: Oh, I checked on that. Simone ordered them herself, charged them to the Fusion account, and they delivered them to her.
Zach: And the delivery guy -- same guy? Nothing different about that? Nothing out of the ordinary? No?
Zarf: Two words for you, my friends -- "I'm sorry."
Julia: Well, I've done what I can for now. The rest is up to you. Just try to stay relaxed, and breathe through the pain.
J.R.: How can I relax when I know Babe’s on the other side of that door?
Julia: An amazing, generous, funny woman just died last night. And here you are, still breathing. So shut up and be grateful.
Adam: How is he?
Julia: He's a pain --
Jamie: Uh -- feeling better, thanks to Julia.
Adam: I'd like a moment with him. Hmm?
Julia: Relaxed and calm.
Adam: Son, I want you to know --
J.R.: Get out.
Adam: Like hell I will.
Babe: I'm not going to give up on my family. If I walked out right now, J.R. might never trust anyone ever again, and it would be all my fault.
Dixie: Wait a second. I mean, is that the reason that you're here -- because you want to fix J.R.? Because if that's it, that's not going to work. You should just leave right now. If you are here for any other reason than love, J.R. will know it, and you will cause more damage than your affair ever did.
Adam: You can't just chase me off.
J.R.: You're a traitor.
Adam: Babe hurt you --
J.R.: Yes, she did.
Adam: Lied to you --
J.R.: More than once.
Adam: Betrayed you --
J.R.: Like clockwork.
Adam: Slept with another man --
J.R.: It's not the first time.
Adam: And you still love her.
J.R.: Love is a waste.
J.R.: It gets in your head, it jacks up your life.
Adam: Yeah. And you still love her.
J.R.: I did love Babe. Completely. And I was proud of myself for believing only her. I didn't listen to anybody but Babe.
J.R.: And just when I thought that I had a grasp on this love, she was busy ripping her clothes off, sleeping with Josh.
Adam: I'm sorry she caused you such pain.
J.R.: No, it's -- it's my fault. I forgot who I was, who raised me. Never forgive, never forget.
Adam: There are some exceptions to that rule.
J.R.: No, there are no exceptions -- those are your words -- until now. Why is that? I mean, if you love me so much, why is Babe still here? Why are you siding with her?
Adam: No, I'm siding with you, son. Now, maybe you're not ready to forgive Babe --
J.R.: It'll never happen.
Adam: But her love is real. If it wasn't, she would've packed up and run away with Little Adam a long time ago.
J.R.: I'm such an idiot. I should've never signed over custody to her.
Adam: I have custody -- temporarily.
J.R.: You do? You did it?
Adam: That's what you wanted.
J.R.: Well, then finish it. Get rid of her.
Adam: She refuses to go.
J.R.: Since when has that stopped you? Get the Chandler security to throw her out.
Adam: Son, she's not here to torment you. She's here to fight for you and your marriage. A woman who loves that hard --
J.R.: What, deserves another chance? Since when did you start talking like a romance-advice columnist? What happened to you? Krystal hijacked your brains and your stones? If Krystal cheated on you, would you let her stay?
Krystal: You going somewhere?
Colby: Huh -- not me.
Krystal: Those better not be Babe’s.
Colby: Well, you heard her. She said she was leaving. It's the least I could do.
Krystal: You know darn well that she doesn't want to go anywhere, Colby.
Colby: Well, what she wants and what my dad's going to do -- I got one more.
Krystal: Would you stop and listen? Now, we agreed that you weren't to blame for J.R.’s accident, but Babe isn't, either. J.R. did this to himself.
Colby: He almost died. He could barely move.
Krystal: Which is why he doesn't need us fussing and pecking at each other. This is the part where we get over it, we pull together, and we work it out. Do you understand?
Sean: Uncle Jack does not deserve to lose out the way my dad did.
Erica: Sean, Travis and I had problems before you were even conceived.
Sean: But he loved you.
Erica: And he also loved your mother. I mean, Travis married Barbara before -- and after -- he married me.
Sean: Yeah, but he was happy with you.
Erica: You know, it wasn't always happyville. Marriage, relationships -- they are very complicated, and no one thing and no one person makes a marriage work or not. You weren't the end of Travis and me, and you aren't the end of Jack and me.
Sean: You're just being nice.
Erica: Sean, I'm not known for "just being nice." So when I tell you that, you can believe me. You are not the reason for the problems I have with Jack. Really. There's no reason for you to leave town.
Sean: So, you and Uncle Jack, the whole crash-and-burn -- not my fault?
Erica: That's right.
Sean: So, is it because of the other guy?
[Knock on door]
Jeff: Lunch is served.
Erin: Something has got to be done. I've got to do something. This isn't right.
Jonathan: So, what, your fix-everything-for-everybody gene just kicked in?
Erin: Simone died of a drug overdose.
Jonathan: Of what? An overdose?
Aidan: Are you sure?
Erin: Mm-hmm. It's called a V-tach, and Simone had to have gotten the drug from someone.
Jonathan: You're just going to go find out who?
Erin: Yeah. Ok, now, remember a while back you caught some guy in here trying to drug a woman -- slipped roofies in her drink, right? Now, I know you guys try to monitor customers, but you know that a couple of people are coming in here high and getting lit in the bathroom, and somebody is supplying them.
Aidan: What, so you think that Simone bought that V-tach drug in here?
Erin: I think that if Simone was unhappy or stressed or, you know, missing Ethan, I think she might've wanted to get away from that for a little while. But somebody had to give her that drug. Now, I want to know, who is the drug pusher that killed Simone?
Ryan: What are you sorry about?
Bianca: Just tell them.
Zarf: There are so many things to be sorry for. Where do I begin? Where does it stop?
Zach: Why don't you begin right here? Did you give Simone the drug that killed her?
Bianca: Wait. No, that is not what Zarf is sorry for.
Kendall: How do you know?
Bianca: He's sorry for upsetting us earlier.
Danielle: Is that true?
Zarf: What I said about Simone’s death -- my beliefs, not yours. I shouldn't have forced them on you.
Ryan: What do you believe about Simone’s death?
Kendall: No, no. Don't even get him started on this whole life-or-death woo-woo thing that he does. Now, our friend just died of a drug overdose. What do you know about it?
Zarf: That aura is getting darker by the minute. But I'll ignore it. One of the purest auras I've ever experienced has reminded me that one person's beliefs are another person's -- "woo-woo."
Ryan: Why don't we try and stay on track here? You may be the last person to have seen Simone alive.
Zarf: "Alive" as defined by this world.
Zach: Oh, God -- ahem.
Zarf: But enough said. Again, I apologize if my views upset you.
Zach: Hey -- is that the only thing you're sorry for?
Zarf: There are so many things to be sorry for. What I most regret is that Simone turned me down. If she had accepted my proposition, perhaps she'd still be alive.
Erin: If you don't think that I can fix this, then help me find the scum who sold Simone the V-tach.
Jonathan: And if we find him?
Erin: You guys do whatever you want to him. First, I want to tell him what an amazing woman Simone was, how at a table right over there, she called me family. Me. And we were, you know? I just -- nobody hurts my family and gets away with it.
Singer: Where can we run?
Singer: Where do I hide? Didn't see you fall
Jonathan: I need to open the place up.
Singer: We're not far behind
Aidan: Hey. Listen, you can't -- you can't undo what has happened, and what happened is not your fault. So no guilt and no blame, ok?
Singer: They all weigh the differences
Erin: I just -- I just wish she was still here.
Aidan: So do I.
Jamie: Got a minute?
Waitress: Sure thing.
Jamie: You deserve some caffeine -- with a shot.
Julia: And some whipped cream.
Jamie: After surviving the Chandler house, you can have anything you want.
Colby: Ok. All right. We are family.
Krystal: Could you say it without the smirk and the eye-rolling, Colby? Because I know -- I know you have it in you to be kind and decent and loving. I see it when you're with your father, I see it when you're with your brother. Now, it's not so terrible to share it with all the people who care about you.
Colby: I -- I'm sorry. I go zero-to-brat, and I don't even mean to. Well, most of the time.
Krystal: Apology accepted. But I'm not the one who needs to hear it.
J.R.: If Krystal was sleeping with another man, would you forgive her? Would you let her stay?
Adam: I -- I don't -- uh -- I don't -- no.
J.R.: Then why are you preaching to me about Babe staying?
Dixie: Because your father knows what you don't. Your heart is bigger than his will ever be.
J.R.: That's bull.
Dixie: That's why it breaks so easily. You may have the Chandler eyes and the Chandler drive, but, baby, you have my heart. I'm so sorry for the pain that it causes you. But I am very proud of the man it's helping you become.
Jeff: You haven't eaten, am I right?
Jeff: Well, that much hasn't changed. So I -- I thought I'd remind you.
Erica: With some of my favorites.
Jeff: You still prefer creme fraiche?
Erica: Oh -- you think of everything.
Sean: What a guy.
Jeff: For a "jackass."
Erica: Sean, it really was very sweet of you to stop by, but I'd hate for you to miss any more school on my account.
Sean: Oh, no, you know what? We're in luck -- lunch break just started, and I'm starving. These last few months have been whack beyond whack -- and the whole boat thing didn't help. Snatching it, crashing it -- majorly stupid. Huh. And Uncle Jack almost tattooed the lecture right here -- about taking what doesn't belong to me.
Erica: Uh -- Sean, would you like some mint jelly with that chop?
Sean: No, thanks, I'm good. You know, no matter how flashy it is, how good it looks, you know, how much fun you think it might be, step back, think again, because you will pay -- and pay and pay. I mean, look at me -- I'm a perfect example. I mean, I took something that didn't belong to me, and everything went to hell.
Jeff: Well, you're a quick learner. Your uncle's lucky to have you.
Erica: Yes, he is -- especially if you don't flunk out of school.
Sean: Oh, no, I only have Phys Ed left today.
Erica: Oh. Ok, then. Fine. Bye.
Sean: Fine. Thanks for the chow.
Erica: I'm sorry about that. Sean means well.
Jeff: Well, he -- he loves his uncle, and he just doesn't want to see Jack lose the best thing that's ever happened to him.
Erica: Well, what if I'm not Jack’s to lose?
J.R.: My heart -- wherever it comes from -- wants Babe gone.
Dixie: Well, what about your son?
J.R.: Little Adam will be better off.
Dixie: A long time ago at Christmas, Adam took you away from me. Do you remember that?
Adam: Is this necessary?
J.R.: Me blowing my Christmas carol solo. And it was Mom to the rescue, and then bye-bye. Yeah. It's a hard one to get over. I was kicked in the gut. But if Babe goes now, Little Adam is still young enough. He will -- he will forget it. He'll get over it.
Dixie: No. Honey, how many times did your heart get broken? How many times did you get over it? I mean, I know hearts get broken -- it's a part of life -- but if you have a chance to prevent it, God, please don't do what your father and I did. Please don't tear that little, beautiful, tender child apart. Little Adam needs both his father and his mother. Please, just let Babe stay.
Adam: Listen to your mother.
Dixie: Well, now you have to, because you may never hear those words from your father again.
Ryan: Do me a favor -- stop talking in circles, ok? Answer the question. Now, Simone would still be alive if she accepted your proposition? What -- what does that mean?
Zarf: Such an effervescent presence -- light, frothy, irresistible. I offered champagne by the tubful and love songs at dawn --
Danielle: You -- you hit on Simone?
Kendall: Fusion is not your personal harem, rocker boy.
Zach: Hey, Zarf, again -- did you give drugs to Simone?
Zarf: There's been a death. It's a shock. It must help to blame a stranger.
Danielle: Oh, they don't get any stranger.
Zarf: So you point a finger. Much more comfortable to look on the outside, because what's on the inside scares the hell out of you.
Kendall: Would you just stop with the jibber-jabber and answer the question?
Zarf: You don't want to look past the pretty, shiny parts. You don't look, you won't see.
Danielle: We just want to know the truth.
Ryan: The question was, did you give Simone the drug that killed her?
Zarf: What has Ms. Kendall been lying to you about?
Kendall: Why don't you take your aura and shove it up your --
Ryan: Why would you do that now? Why would you bring up lies?
Zarf: Secrets, lies --
Zach: Is there a point?
Zarf: I suggest you ask Kendall.
Kendall: Ok, that's it. You're famous, you're richer than God, and, yes, our campaign will tank without you, but you're leaving -- now.
Zarf: I had hoped Babe would be here. This place is so much smaller and paler when she's not. Until we meet again --
Julia: Oh, what's that for?
Jamie: I was just thinking -- you, me, Christmas morning, watching you open your stocking.
Erin: I can't believe it was a suicide. No. No, I don't want to. Simone that lonely and hopeless -- I mean, what -- was it because she lost Ethan? Did she think -- did she think maybe that was her one shot at love, and it was gone forever?
Aidan: I don't know, but it's possible.
Erin: But you've got to believe. You can't just give up. Love is out there, you know? Real love -- family, friends, maybe even -- maybe even the one.
Aidan: You know, the good thing about love is it never dies.
Erin: It changes, mm-hmm, into something different but still special.
[Di walks into the bar and sees Erin and Aidan hugging.]
Dixie: You are so going to get through this. Hey, you recovered for me because of Kate, and now I am here for you -- the way I should've been all those years.
J.R.: Now is all that matters. And I'm glad you're here.
Dixie: Hmm. Well, it's going to take a little getting used to, I've got to be honest with you. I'm not really sure how easy it's going to be living with your father under the same roof again -- and his pregnant wife and his daughter -- and his stepdaughter who's also his daughter-in-law? Is that how it works? I don't -- I don't know whether to laugh or run for the hills.
J.R.: No, you don't have to run -- and neither do I. Not anymore.
Dixie: I can't tell you how much it means to me that you've let me back into your life. If you can do that, who knows what amazing things your heart is capable of?
Adam: If J.R. could run, he would've been out of town by now. He was a captive audience.
Krystal: Thank you for sticking up for Babe. I know it's not quite a natural fit.
Adam: We're going to keep this family together if we have to go through Armageddon to get there.
Krystal: You and I -- we're ok, aren't we? You'll tell me if we're not?
Adam: Why do you ask? Yes. Yes, we're fine. Just fine.
Colby: Ok. I really love J.R. -- a lot -- and you may not always get that, but I do. And I want to watch out for him the way he watched out for me. I don't do apologies very well, but I -- I want things to be cool between us. So I'm going to make a real effort. I promise.
[Touched by her sincerity, Babe hugs Colby.]
Jeff: Well, I'm sure that Jack is going to have something to say about that.
Erica: Well, Jack has already said enough. Jack and I are getting a divorce.
Zach: Hey -- you're shaking. Let me take you home.
Kendall: I'm fine, I'm fine.
Bianca: You know, home sounds like a really good idea to me.
Kendall: No, I have work to do. Ok? Whatever traumas or dramas that were going on in everyone else's lives, Simone held down the fort, and she worked on every project. So, no, I'm not going to go home.
Zach: Well, I didn't want to break my word to Spike -- it's supposed to be a surprise -- but he's -- he's made lunch.
Ryan: And you know he doesn't take no for an answer.
Danielle: I can hold down the fort.
Kendall: Ok. I'll get my stuff.
Bianca: I'll -- I'll help you.
Kendall: I -- I should stay.
Bianca: No. Come on, you're not letting anybody down, you’re not slacking off. This is -- this is what you need right now.
Kendall: Nice friend you made on the roof.
Bianca: He is nice -- in a bizarre, free-spirit, other-planet artiste kind of way.
Kendall: He's a total freak, all right? Weird things happen when he's around. I don't like him, and I don't trust him.
Bianca: He's different, but I'm pretty sure he's harmless.
Ryan: I'm going to check out the delivery guy, I'm going to check out any and all deliveries that were made to Fusion or ConFusion.
Zach: Yeah. I'm going to deal with the rock star. Hey, it's Zach. Check out a guy called Zarf -- and don't just open a magazine, either.
[Football game plays]
[Knock on door]
J.R.: Who is it?
Babe: It's me, and I'm not leaving.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Kendall (to Zach): You know something that I don't. You don't want to scare me.
Aidan (to Zarf): You have come a long way, Freddie, my man. I mean, that is your real name, right -- Freddie Luper from Elkhart, Indiana?
Babe (to J.R.): I have everything that I need, but not what I need most -- you.
