Young J.R.: Tad! Look at me, Tad. I can fly!
Tad: J.R., be careful! Don't hurt yourself!
Young J.R.: No way. I'm Superman!
[Glass shatters as Tad thinks about J.R.ís fall.]
Tad: J.R., no!
Di: Doing ok?
Tad: Can't help it. Just keep thinking about what he was thinking, what he's feeling. Went through the glass, started to fall. Whatever he's done, J.R. doesnít deserve to die.
Kendall: Ok, repeat after me -- you, right, J.R., wrong.
Bianca: No, I'm not sure that I am right. When I found out that Maggie was cheating on me, I bailed. I should -- I should have done something.
Kendall: You did. You took your daughter, and you got the hell out of there.
Bianca: Yeah, I ran. I did the one thing that we've been taught our whole lives not to do. Kane women do not run away.
Erica: Yes, bring the car around front. I'll be right there. Thank you.
Jack: Hey. I'm not going to let you just run away.
Erica: I am not running. I just refuse to stand there and allow you to spew innuendoes about Jeff Martin and me.
Jack: Fine. I'll just come out and ask, then. How far has it gone, Erica? How far do you intend for it to go?
Julia: You want me back? As in, the two of us back together again?
Julia: You're upset about J.R. I'm sure that's confusing things --
Jamie: No, this has nothing to do with J.R. and no, I'm not confused at all. I care about you, Julia. I want you back.
Adam: Yes, Barry, that's right. I want you to get the best child custody lawyers on the East Coast. Put them all on retainer. I'll -- I'll let you know soon just how far we have to go.
Krystal: Whose ear are you bending this late at night? You're not stirring up trouble for Babe, are you, Adam? Please. She has trouble enough as it is.
Babe: I said get out of here. Stay away from me!
Josh: I'm not going anywhere.
Babe: I hate you!
Josh: You can hate me all you want, Babe. I am not leaving you.
Babe: I want you gone, Josh! I mean it.
Josh: What do you think, you yell loud enough, I'll turn around and walk away? I am not J.R.
Babe: Shut up! J.R. might die, and if he does, it's all my fault.
Josh: Babe, whatever happens to J.R. is on his own head. You didn't do anything wrong.
Babe: I broke my marriage vows. I made stupid, selfish choices. And now my husband is in there paying for them. I am paying for them. My -- my husband might lose his life, and my son might lose his father. Now, would you please leave?
Josh: You pulled me out of my coffin, Babe. No way am I going to let you step into one of your own.
Krystal: Babe is J.R.ís wife, for better or for worse. And she's put up with a lot of worse herself, Adam. She loves J.R. You know that.
Adam: Yeah. She shattered his heart, and now, his body, too.
Krystal: People make mistakes. Mistakes that they regret. But just because you mess up huge, it doesn't mean that you stop loving someone. Make me a promise. Please, Adam, don't go after Babe.
Adam: My son is broken. People are cutting him up, trying to put him back together again. And I'm afraid my son is going to die.
Jamie: When I'm done, you can walk away if you want to, but I'm saying this. I've tried to convince myself that what we had wasn't serious. But it was. And us being apart has made that even more clear.
Julia: You don't have to say any of this --
Jamie: Ok, just -- just let me finish. I don't -- I don't want to shrug this off, move on, or forget about it. What I want is you back in my life.
Julia: Jamie -- it won't work.
Jamie: Why? Because you don't feel the same way about me?
Krystal: You cannot hurt Babe.
Adam: I'm going to see if there's any word on J.R.
Krystal: Not now, David. I am warning you.
David: You really should be thanking me, congratulating me on all my good work.
Krystal: You have never done anything good in your whole miserable life. All you go around doing is -- is spreading bad and worse everywhere you go.
David: If J.R. lives -- and that is a big "if" from what I understand -- he will never take her back now. Babe's marriage is over. I know it, you know it. Now it's up to you to make sure our daughter knows it.
Babe: I know exactly what I did.
Josh: Yeah, you tried to hang on to your marriage, Babe. You didn't make him jump out of a window. You didn't force him to drink all that booze. You didn't -- you didn't tell him to come hunt me down. He did that all on his own.
Babe: He did it because of me, because I lied. Because I told him I lied. I pushed him to it. I drove him to it. Can't you see that?
Josh: J.R. was so out of control, Babe. When I saw him lying there in all that blood and all that glass, I knew that no matter how bad off he was, he -- if he was conscious -- if there was any possible way he could drag one foot in front of the other, he would have still come after me. He was on a mission -- search and destroy, Babe. Listen to me. No way are you responsible for where he ended up.
Babe: Just what did you do, Josh? What exactly did you do when you found J.R. lying there unconscious? Oh, my God. No. No, no, you couldnít.
Kendall: Bianca, how many times have you pulled me back from the brink? There is nothing wrong with turning to your family when you have a rough time in your relationship.
Bianca: I know, but what if by running away, I guaranteed that the relationship is over? Maybe Maggie will think that I don't care. Maybe if I had stayed, it would have proven to her how much I want the relationship to work, and we could have salvaged what we had.
Kendall: Maggie lied to you. Ok? You gave her your heart, and she betrayed you. Just forget about her.
Bianca: Oh. Yeah, right. I'll forget about her when you forget about Zach.
Di: Hey. How you doing?
Dixie: I was just thinking about what you were saying to me in my room a few hours ago.
Dixie: That I have J.R. That I'll find Kate. That we're going to be a family again. Today could have been the happiest day of my life, the day I got both of my children back. And now I could lose them.
Di: That is not going to happen. Ok?
Tad: Hey. Anything?
Jeff: No, nothing from surgery. Hey -- what are you going to do about him?
Tad: What do you mean? What more can I do?
Jeff: If J.R. had found Josh tonight, my son would be dead. You need to take constructive steps -- real steps -- to keep J.R. from hurting himself and the people around him. Now, I will not let your son destroy mine. Now, I know you understand the awful place that J.R. is in right now. It's the pain and the confusion of being left by someone that he thought loved him. He wasn't beaten and left in the park, but his mind and his body have taken some terrible abuse. He's got to know that there are people out there who want him in their lives, who care about him. Your son is lost, and you need to find him. Make sure he knows how much you love him.
Tad: You know, you sound just like Pop. Josh is a lucky man. Anybody would be who had you as a father.
Erica: You are dead wrong about Jeff Martin. I take a little time for myself, and suddenly I'm taking up with another man? And when did you become so suspicious?
Jack: Since what you're telling me and what I'm seeing are two completely different things.
Erica: Well, then perhaps you should have your vision checked.
Jack: Erica, of all the hotel rooms in Pine Valley, you end up -- up in one right across the hall from Jeff Martin? I mean, what is that, a wild coincidence?
Erica: Actually, yes. Jeff Martin moved back into the Valley Inn so he could be closer to Josh, not me.
Jack: Would you just stop it, please? After all these years, I think I know you a little bit better than that.
Erica: Well, apparently, from those wild accusations, you don't know me at all.
Jack: I've seen you. I've seen you with Jeff Martin. I've seen the way you tend to that scratch on his head like it was a skull fracture. I've seen the smiles you toss his way, the looks that last way too long.
Erica: Oh, don't be absurd.
Jack: I had to leave your party early. But I was there long enough to catch an eyeful of you with your "date." At best, you were reveling in Jeffís attention.
Erica: Oh, and at worst? I mean, please, while you're in the mood to share, tell me what you really think of me.
Jack: I also saw how he looks at you.
Erica: Well, if Jeff still has feelings for me, I can't do anything about that. I don't have any control over that.
Jack: I want a straight answer, Erica, and I want it right now. What's more important to you? Or maybe I should say who is more important? I want you back -- in our home, in our life, in our bed. Your husband needs you, your children need you. But if you decide to stay away, don't you stand there and tell me that I'm wrong about what's going on here, because I know that I'm not. So what's it going to be? Are you going to come home with me tonight or not?
Erica: Well, that sounds like an ultimatum to me. And you know I don't do well with ultimatums.
Jack: It was a question, Erica, to which I would like an answer.
Erica: Oh, this conversation is so illuminating. I'm seeing you in a whole new light. You're the kind of husband who wants to control my every move.
Jack: Yeah, whatever moves you're making, or are being made on you, as the case may be. It sure as hell doesn't have anything to do with me.
Erica: It has everything to do with you.
Jack: No, you were the one who packed up and moved into a hotel where your ex-husband and the child you share together are living. Now, what the hell do you think that says to me and our children? Huh? I'll tell you what it says. It says that we've become nothing more than an annoyance for you.
Erica: No, not our family, not our children -- you.
Jack: Well, that's not what you said before.
Erica: It's what I've come to realize. You think about it. You think back to when our problems began. It was all when you became obsessed with Jonathan Lavery.
Jack: Oh, my God. We're not back to that, are we?
Erica: Oh, he was evil for trying to make Lily happy. And I was crazy for thinking that he actually might be able to do that. And poor Lily. You were the one who couldn't be bothered, Jack. You couldn't be bothered. You refused to listen. You ran off on your own. No, the trouble didn't begin with me, it began with you.
Jack: Yeah, well, if I stopped listening, maybe that's because you stopped talking. You knew for months that Josh was your child. You didn't say a word me. You completely shut me out. You kept secrets, you lied right to my face!
Erica: And I apologized for that. Was that not enough for you? You want to dredge up every perceived sin from my past? Fine. You want to play that game? I can play that, too.
Kendall: You know, Josh used the same line on me when I tried to tell him to forget about Babe. He said, "When you forget about Zach." Now, when will you people learn -- do as I say, not as I do?
Kendall: Bianca, you are by far the most beautiful woman I have ever known. Inside and out. I know the right person will come along.
Bianca: She has. I'm in love with Maggie. Just like you're in love with Zach.
Kendall: Just like I'm in love with Zach. Yeah. I know, I get it.
Bianca: It's crazy. When you love someone, you can forgive the unforgivable. All right, that's it. I got to go stretch my legs.
Kendall: Go, go. Ok.
Brooke: Any news?
Tad: What --
Brooke: Oh, I'm sorry. Sorry.
Brooke: Anything I can do?
David: Babe and J.R. are over. They're finished, through. Now it's up to you, the loving mother, to pick up the pieces. You want to stay hitched to Adam Chandler, keep living in that house of horrors? Be my guest. Just get Babe and her son out of there, fast.
Krystal: You are a disease. And you're infecting my family, this town, and the whole damn universe. You're the one that needs to get out fast. Out of our lives for good.
David: Oh, let me tell you something. I am the best thing that has ever happened to Babe. I am her savior.
David: Everything I did, I did for her. Ok? I at least took action. While you and the others stood by while the Chandlers tried to grind her into dust. Someday, our daughter will understand what I did, and she will get it. She will be grateful. She'll know that her daddy acted out of love for his little girl. And that is all that matters.
Babe: Come on, Josh. Did you work J.R.ís fall to your advantage, so he'd be out of your way for good?
Josh: You honestly think I would do that? Fix it so J.R. would die?
Babe: I don't know what you did. All I do know is that J.R. might not make it through the night. And you had his blood all over you.
Bianca: Babe, you couldn't be more wrong.
Josh: Bianca, can you please stay out of this?
Bianca: No. No, absolutely not. J.R. was bleeding to death. Josh performed emergency surgery in an alley before the paramedics even arrived. Josh saved J.R.ís life.
Kendall: Tad -- um -- I know what you're going through, waiting for news on your daughter, and now J.R. I mean, I look at you, and I can't imagine the pain that you must feel. But part of me says that you deserve it.
Tad: There is no excuse for what J.R. did to you. But how could you say something like --
Kendall: No, what about what you did to me? That night that I came to your house, and I asked you if you really saw Zach and Dixie bury Greg Madden? You looked at me right in the eye knowing that my marriage, my future, my entire life was on the line, and you lied to me. That almost killed me. You almost killed me. I had no idea what you were capable of.
Tad: Neither did I.
Kendall: I came to you, because I thought you were my friend. A good, honorable man who would tell me the truth.
Tad: Believe it or not, I am your friend. You want to know who I am? I can't help you out. If you find out, tell me, because I haven't got a clue anymore. I know it's way too little, it's way too late. But for what it's worth, I hated lying to you. I hated all the things I had to do. But I did them anyway.
Erica: What's next, Jack? Want to give me a curfew? Want to put a monitoring device around my ankle? Oh, huh! Well, why aren't I surprised? Have you two enjoyed any more all-night cruises lately? Oh, don't act so innocent, Brooke. You're after Jack, aren't you? Why don't you just admit it.
Jack: That is enough!
Erica: Well, go ahead. Aren't you ready to take your shot?
Brooke: Uh -- feeling a little insecure, are we?
Erica: Oh, you only wish. I'm just curious, that's all.
Brooke: Well, I don't know why. I mean, if you and Jack are having problems, it's obvious who's to blame.
Erica: Well, we must be having problems, because here you are, right on cue.
Brooke: Well, I heard your screeching, and I thought they were torturing a small animal.
Erica: No, you smelled bachelor blood, and as usual, came running like a dog to my scrap table.
Brooke: Uh-huh. You know, this is not your private hospital.
Erica: And you are trolling the hallways for men. You'd do better to go upstairs where they're unconscious.
Brooke: You have such a wonderful gift of being amazingly shallow and dense, all at the same time.
Erica: And you have such a wonderful gift for swooping down like a buzzard and pecking at my leftovers.
Jack: All right, you know what? That's it, that's it. I'm going to send Sean to the hotel to pack your things. You and I are going home right now.
Erica: Oh, no, I most certainly am not going home. I am going back to the Valley Inn alone.
Jamie: Do you have feelings for me or not?
Julia: I'm older than you, for one thing.
Jamie: How about you stop dodging the question?
Julia: No, I'm not dodging, it's an explanation.
Jamie: I have heard the age-difference thing a million times, and for the record, I've never brought it up once.
Julia: I'm not saying that it's a deal-breaker. But it does explain why we're in such different places. I want to settle down. You're talking about traveling the world. I've been thinking about having a kid. We're just not in sync.
Jamie: Well -- so let's see if we can get in sync. I mean, I'm a few years younger than you, but I am not naÔve, and I am definitely not stupid. I know that whatever we have just sort of happened. And I know there are no guarantees. But I miss you. A lot. And I care about you.
Julia: You're not listening to me.
Jamie: Because you're not giving me a straight answer. Fine. Say it. Say that you don't give a damn about me. Say that you don't feel exactly the same way as I feel about you.
Julia: Uh -- I got to go.
Babe: You saved J.R.?
Josh: You had to open your big mouth?
Bianca: Well, yeah. Sorry, that's what little sisters do. They brag when their brothers save lives. J.R. wouldnít even have made it to the hospital if it hadn't been for you. I will never forget that.
Di: Hey, you guys. Come quick. There's news on J.R.
Doctor: J.R.ís out of surgery, but he's not fully out of the woods just yet. He suffered a severe trauma. There was massive internal bleeding, which we believe we were able to stop. He has multiple fractures, the most severe of which is in his pelvis. There's a lot we need to keep our eye on. Serious complications could arise at any time -- more bleeding, infection. He has a long road ahead.
Doctor: But the worst of it's over, and he's stable for now.
Dixie: Oh. Oh, Doctor, can I see him, please? I just want him to know that I'm here.
Doctor: I'm afraid it's too soon for visitors.
Doctor: Excuse me.
Dixie: Doctor? Is there still a possibility that J.R. could die?
Doctor: I assure you we're doing everything we can.
[Babe leaves the room and Josh starts to follow her.]
Bianca: Josh? Maybe you should just give her a little space.
Kendall: You've had a lot going on, so you get a free pass for decking my brother -- a one-time, never-happening-again pass. Josh is a Kane. Go after him, it's the same as going after me, my sister, or my mother. You make a move on him, we make a move on you. Got it?
Adam: You don't want me to make a move on your brother? Well, you move him and his whore out of my life, my son's life, and my grandson's life.
Kendall: If it were up to me, he wouldn't go anywhere near that skank ever again -- trust me. Just remember what I said.
Di: Oh. Since it's too soon for visitors, I think I might run home and take a quick nap.
Tad: Sure, that's ok.
Tad: Thanks for being here.
Dixie: Yeah, thank you, Di. Thanks.
Tad: We have to help J.R.
Dixie: Yeah, I know. I mean, anything the doctors say, I'm here 24/7.
Tad: No, no, I mean after, after his physical injuries heal. Because he's an alcoholic. It means he needs the kind of help that we can't give him. I mean, let's face it -- our support isn't cutting it. AA meetings aren't cutting it. I mean, he -- I think he needs to be in a long-term rehab center -- I mean, inpatient treatment center where he'll get around-the-clock care.
Dixie: What, you want to send him away?
Tad: I just -- I don't want him to be a danger to anybody, least of all to himself.
Dixie: But send him away right now? I mean, what kind of message is that?
Tad: The best kind, the kind that says "We love you too much to lose you."
Dixie: Oh. Look, I -- I know what you're saying. I -- I just -- we don't have to decide this right now, do we? Good, ok. Thank you. I just -- I just want to see my son, ok?
David: Hey. I just heard the news. J.R.ís a tougher nut than I thought. Look, Dixie, don't worry. I'm sure things will work out exactly as they should. Soon you'll have both of your kids to think about. And they did run another DNA test on Kate, right?
Dixie: Yeah, huh -- one you can't touch.
David: Huh. Good. Then my work is complete. I've done everything in my power to resolve things between you and me. So, now I can let it go, because you will know the truth.
Dixie: David, you and I --
David: All right, Dixie. Huh. You don't have to say anything. I mean, you know my feelings for you, how deep they run. You have had a profound impact on my life, Dixie. You may not fully understand that now, but you will. And I know in my cold, dark heart that you will truly find all the happiness you deserve. That's all I need. I can live on that for the rest of my life.
Babe: Thank you for saving J.R.ís life.
Josh: I know how you would've felt if he had died. But he didnít. So, you're free. No more obligations, no more ties. And J.R. will get the help he needs from his father, his mother, Tad. Now is your chance, Babe. Take your son and leave that house. Just go, right now.
David: Boy, you really are a glutton for punishment.
Julia: What the hell are you talking about?
David: Jamie Martin. You're thinking about getting back together with him again, aren't you?
David: Go right ahead.
Julia: Well, I don't need your permission, and I sure don't need your advice.
David: You know, it's funny -- I can't seem to get through to anyone in this town these days. You want to go for seconds with Martin, be my guest. Just remember -- I warned you. Heartache awaits.
Dixie: I'm his mother.
Nurse: Two minutes -- that's it.
Erica: You don't know the half of it.
[Jeff touches Ericaís hand as he helps her open her hotel room door.]
Jeff: Let me help. Here. Voila.
Erica: Thank you. Uh, Jeff? I've ordered up some tea. Would you like to come in?
Brooke: Jack, you know my history with Erica, and I certainly know your history with Erica.
Brooke: And I'm sorry that you've hit a speed bump, but, you know, I'm your friend, and I'm here, if you need me, so --
Jack: And I appreciate that. I do. Thanks. Tell you what I'm going to do -- I'm going to make sure my daughter has had some breakfast, then I'm going to check her out of here, and I'm going to take her home and try to put this whole night behind us, you know?
Brooke: You know, I have to say something.
Brooke: And I'll deny it until I get to my grave, but I have to say it -- Ericaís right. On occasion, I am very attracted to the men that she's involved with.
Jack: Huh. You got a thing for Jeff Martin, do you?
Erica: Thank you for defending our son tonight. It really meant a lot for me to see that.
Jeff: Well, I wasn't about to let Adam Chandler annihilate anyone, especially Josh.
Erica: Well, Adam doesn't know how lucky he is. The only reason his son is still alive is because of ours. Josh performed emergency surgery on J.R. tonight right there on the spot. I mean, I wouldn't have, but Josh -- as I was watching him, I remember thinking he sure has a lot of his father in him. I'm sorry that I got so angry at you tonight for saying what you did. The one I should really be angry at is myself, because I wanted you to kiss me.
Jeff: I know.
Erica: I -- I am having a difficult time in my marriage. But that doesn't mean that I'm going to have an affair. At my party tonight, that was me. That was me in the spotlight. When I'm out there, when I'm front and center, I know who I am. I know where I fit. But when it comes to who I am, and where I fit in this family, in this marriage, I haven't really figured that out yet. I have a lot of questions about myself, a lot of deep questions about what I lose if I choose to be one thing and what I gain if I choose to be another thing and -- and why I have to choose at all. So I really do have a lot to figure out. But I do love my husband. And I'm going to fight for my marriage with everything I have.
Jeff: Thanks for the tea.
Jamie: I'm not leaving until you give me an answer.
Julia: Jamie, it's not going to happen. I'm sorry.
Krystal: I don't want to fight. I hated threatening you -- I love you so much. But I love Babe, too, and I'm not going to let anybody hurt her, because of some mistake that she made. Don't let this come between us, ok? J.R. is going to make it, and so are we.
[As Babe sneaks into J.R.ís room, Josh spies on her then leaves as Bianca and Kendall watch him.]
Tad: We'll be right there. That was Ryan.
Dixie: What did he say?
Tad: The results of the DNA test are back. It's time to find out the truth about Kate.
Dixie: Let's go.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Jamie: You should be worried.
Josh: I am worried, about Babe. You know, you may be able to leave her with a maniac, but I'm not.
Babe: You hate me.
Adam: I also believe you're J.R.'s only hope.
Tad (to Dixie): I'm sorry.
