[Just as Dixie is about to go to bed, there’s a knock on her door. With a deep sigh, she reluctantly answers it.]
Dixie: Ugh, God. Go away, David.
David: Not until you hear me out.
Dixie: You know, you were warned not to show your face here again. I’m sure security will enjoy rearranging it.
David: I know where Kate is.
Annie: Goodnight, my sweet girl. Close your eyes and dream about the carnival, ok?
[Knock on door]
Annie: Who is it?
Ryan: Annie, it's Ryan.
Ryan: Hey. I know it's late.
Annie: No, no, no, don't be silly. Come in.
Ryan: Yeah? You sure?
Ryan: Two seconds, I'll be out of your hair.
Annie: If you're looking for the karaoke machine, I haven't picked one up yet, so feel free to go a cappella.
Ryan: No, I'm actually looking for a book I was thinking of reading, but then I couldn't find the book, and so, you know --
Annie: Hmm. Must be some story if it brought you all the way back here to find it.
Ryan: Oh, yeah, it is. It's great. It's this -- it's a mystery. It's like a real -- it's a real suspense ride. You think it's going to be this one guy, right? And then there's these twists and changes, and the story goes, and then all of a sudden you think it might be the other guy. And I'm caught right in the middle. Got to find out how it ends.
Annie: Huh. Hey, I -- I made some hot chocolate for Emma before I put her to bed. There's -- there's plenty left over. Why don't you stay, have a cup, and we can find that book?
Annie: Jumbo, mini, and heart-shaped.
Annie: That's right. Marshmallow preparedness. Item -- I think it's 492-B in the Good Mom Handbook.
Ryan: Hmm. Emma's a very lucky girl.
Annie: Yeah. So am I.
[Bartending at ConFusion, Amanda refills Josh’s drink.]
Amanda: On the house.
Josh: I'm touched.
Amanda: You're going to be knocked on the head with it unless you convince me you're not out to hurt my friend Babe.
Babe: Colby, what --
Colby: Wait, whatever it is, I didn't do it.
Adam: This suggests otherwise. They're instructions for a pregnancy test. Colby, tell me they're not yours.
Colby: Mine? They can't be. Are you serious? Oh, I -- I couldn't be pregnant. How -- how could I? I -- ok -- ok. I'll tell you. The test is Sydney’s.
Sydney: You lying ho! Colby made me buy that test for her, because she thinks she's pregnant.
Adam: Winifred, would you take Sydney into the other room? I'd like to speak with my daughter.
Winifred: I'm going to hug you, young lady. Then I'm going to shake you till your teeth rattle.
Adam: You are barely 16 years old. How could you have done this?
Colby: This wasn't my fault.
Krystal: Colby, are you saying you were forced into having sex?
Colby: No, no, it wasn't like that. But I still didn't -- Daddy, ok, listen. You have to believe me. This was not my fault.
Amanda: Look, you want to drop a bomb in the Chandler house, don't you? Are you only going after Babe to get back at J.R. for the stunt he pulled with the CD? Look, Josh, I know what's going on, ok? I'm not looking for hot gossip, I'm just looking out for my friend.
Josh: Oh, right, yeah. "All about me" Amanda going to bat for someone other than herself? I mean, you might want to pinch me. This dream is way too freaky.
Amanda: Do not mess with me, Josh. Ok? I may not be a saint, but I do care about her. And if you're playing her, you will regret it. So what's the deal?
Josh: You know what? Even if I did spill my guts to you right now, you'd have no idea I was telling the truth or not.
Amanda: Wrong. You see, I've grown up a lot since our good old days back at "New Beginnings."
Josh: Oh, have you?
Amanda: Yes, I have. And actually now I'm a lot tougher to fool, ok?
Amanda: And so I want to know about Babe. I want you to tell me how you really feel about her.
Josh: I love her, and I will do anything I can to get her away from J.R.
J.R.: Who's the guy?
Adam: Tell me who's responsible.
J.R.: So we can tear him apart.
Adam: Come on, speak.
Babe: Ok, ease up on the girl.
Adam: A name, Colby!
Krystal: Enough! Back off the poor girl. There's plenty of time for the third degree later. First things first. Are you pregnant?
Colby: I don't know. I didn't get a chance to take the test.
Dixie: Why don't you take your lies and crawl back down your hole.
David: She looks just like you, Dixie.
Dixie: Get out, David!
Dixie: Didn't we once agree to try to be friends? Is this how you treat your friends? You trick them, you toy with them for fun? I don't believe a word you say.
David: Would you like to see a picture of your little girl?
Dixie: I know this. You stole this. You stole this from me.
David: Mm-hmm. The same night your psycho son went ballistic on me.
Dixie: This is -- this is the -- the night that you cracked J.R.'s skull when he caught you breaking in here.
David: You say tomato --
Dixie: Look, this picture is one of hundreds, maybe thousands of children that Madden was keeping track of. You're just using it to play your sick mind games on me.
David: That could be. Except I happened to find this kid. I saw her, live and in person. I also tested her -- against Tad’s DNA.
[David whips out the DNA test results from his pocket and hands it to Dixie.]
Dixie: Oh, my God. It's a match.
Ryan: Are you sure this helps Emma sleep? I mean, isn't this packed with sugar?
Annie: Yeah, I know. She should be bouncing off the walls, but for some reason, one cup, and she's out.
Ryan: I wish it were that easy.
Annie: Yeah. I hear you. Oh -- when I was on the run with Emma, there were nights -- entire nights -- where I didn't even close my eyes.
Ryan: Really? Well, Terry's gone now. It's ok to close your eyes, Annie.
Annie: Yeah, I know. I mean, logically, intellectually, I know that that's true, you know? But -- Terry's dead. I mean, he can't hurt us anymore. It's just for some reason I'm still on high alert.
Ryan: Yeah. Do you think that there's any way that we can kind of bring down the threat level from high alert to, say, green or maybe even aqua?
Annie: There are. I usually pamper myself. Do my toenails, take a bubble bath, put on a mud mask. You know, all different ways of pampering yourself. Kind of like a spa day, you know?
Ryan: Uh -- not really.
Annie: Ha! Ok. All right, fine. If none of that works, then I will read.
Ryan: Ah. Hey!
Ryan: Nice work.
Annie: There you go.
Ryan: Tell you what -- as soon as I'm done with it, it's all yours.
Annie: Uh, no. This is way too entertaining for me.
Ryan: Oh, I guess you like your books nice and dull. Is that what --
Annie: Yeah. The more boring, the more snoring. I mean, I'm talking about computer manuals, the federal tax code. It's a little trick I picked up from your sister, Erin.
Ryan: Very exciting.
[Erin sighs as she sits down at ConFusion and watches Aidan come in with Di.]
Di: Well, I didn't think there was anything scarier than jumping headfirst off a bridge, but there is.
Aidan: So you're not a fan of night hang-gliding, huh?
Di: Oh, my God. I saw my life flash before my eyes, seriously, a million times, and I loved it.
Aidan: Mmm, that's not the only thing you loved. Remember, we --
Erin: Hey, guys.
Aidan: Hey. How are you?
Erin: Good. Um -- if you don't mind, actually, I was hoping that I could talk to Aidan for a minute.
Di: Of course. I'll go get us some drinks.
Aidan: Good idea. What's on your mind?
Di: You and me.
Colby: I can't go with an audience!
Krystal: Look, Colby’s right. While she's in the little girl's room, you boys need to scram. Come on.
Krystal: Come on. J.R., come on. Please.
Adam: She's just a child.
Krystal: Whatever happens, we'll all deal with this together.
Babe: How's everything going in there?
Colby: Like you care. As if you had any right to judge me when you're the one cheating on my brother.
Babe: Look, I know that you're going through a tough time right now, but you really need to stop saying that.
Colby: Why? If I say it enough, you're afraid that J.R. might actually start believing me? No. Oh, no. No. No.
Krystal: Colby? Honey, what is it? Colby --
Babe: It's ok, you're not alone.
Colby: You're right. I'm with the world's biggest hypocrite.
Babe: We're in this together as a family.
Colby: Home pregnancy test, $12.99. And your selling family values -- priceless.
Krystal: Colby, did you soak this for five seconds and let it dry for two minutes?
Colby: Yes, and there was a line in the middle, which means I'm pregnant!
Krystal: Well, there should be two lines in the first window. According to this, you're not pregnant.
Colby: Are you serious? Oh! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Ooh! Oh, my gosh! Oh! Talk about dodging a bullet! I have to tell my dad! False alarm! No baby on board. Isn't that the best news ever?
Adam: Downstairs, now.
Josh: So, yeah, I wanted Babe. I lusted after her. Whatever you want to call it. Then I started feeling things that I've never felt before. I started thinking about things that never crossed my mind. So suddenly what I wanted from Babe was more than just a roll in the sack.
Amanda: And all of this came as a big shock to you?
Josh: Yeah. Before I met Babe, it was all about having as much fun as I could, having as much sex as I possibly could. And then everything just changed after that. I don't know -- something just grabbed ahold of me that was never part of the equation before. I had no clue what it was, but now I do. I'm in love with her. And believe me, no one was more surprised than I was. Is any of this making any sense to you?
Amanda: Yeah. I kind of know what you mean.
Jonathan: I can -- I can whip up another batch anytime. On the rocks?
Di: I don't know.
Erin: We both know that I'm a relationship rookie. But that's no excuse for how I handled our breakup. How -- how I -- fumbled, mangled, bungled our breakup.
Aidan: Well, you had a lot going on, didn't you?
Erin: Yeah, I did, but I should have trusted you to help me through it. I am so sorry that I hurt you, Aidan.
Aidan: Hey, that's all right. You know, breakups hurt, don't they? There's no getting around that. But it's easier to move past it, especially if you still think the person you split with is pretty great.
Erin: And she still thinks you're pretty great, too.
Dixie: Why are you doing this to me? Do you know where Kate is, or is this some new form of torture you've dreamed up in that demented head of yours? Answer me, David!
David: You'll never know.
Dixie: Have some compassion. This is my child you're talking about. No? Ok. Fine, then let's just get it over with. Here. Here. You want to kill me?
[Dixie dramatically forces a knife into David’s hand then places his hands around her neck.]
Dixie: Go ahead. Do it. I'm ready. Do it! No? Oh, ok, fine. Is that a little too messy for you? Here, here. This is what you want, right? To watch the life drain out of me? To squeeze me until there's nothing left? Then just do it!
[David lowers his hands and backs away.]
Dixie: If you know where my child is, you have to tell me.
David: Do I, Dixie? Really? Why? Because I love you so much?
Dixie: Because you are a human being! At least you used to be!
David: Oh, yeah, there was a lot of things I used to be. The man who cared for you. The man who would do anything for you, who loved you so much that he would even kill for you. You have no idea how much I cared.
Dixie: Oh, I don't believe this.
David: From the second you came back to this town, you have done nothing but spit on me. You have rejected me over and over again. Do you have any idea how that made me feel? Well, maybe now you'll finally get it! You'll understand, when you realize how cruel and empty your life can really be.
Annie: Full. That is how I would describe life with a child.
Ryan: Yeah, full diapers and a full laundry bag.
Annie: Oh. True. True, but it's also that everything is much richer. I remember -- I remember the first time I showed Emma a sunflower. I mean, I've been looking at sunflowers my entire life, right? But when she looked at it, she -- she saw all of these little details that I had never even noticed before. You know? Like the -- the -- the creases on the petals and all the different shades of yellow. I don't know -- it's so true. Kids really do teach you to see the world in a different way.
Ryan: Hmm. So how do you teach them not to see the parts of the world that aren't so sunny?
Annie: Hmm. I guess you just do your best and know that there is no such thing as a perfect kid.
Ryan: Hmm. You got to admit, Spike's pretty close, though.
Annie: Yes. Yes, but he will grow up to have his -- his faults, too.
Ryan: What? Come on. You mean, I can't raise my son to have my incredible sense of humor, but not my outrageous lack of patience?
Annie: Well, sure you can. Just like I can hopefully raise a daughter that doesn't distrust every man that she meets. How am I going to do that, Ryan? How am I going to teach Emma to have faith in the right people? Explain to her that some people are just born bad? Huh? How am I going to tell her about Terry?
Josh: Don't get me wrong. I wanted revenge on J.R. for what he had done to me. Blasting the truth about Erica and my so-called dad to half the world. I'll never forget that for the rest of my life.
Amanda: I don't think I will, either. It was pretty horrible.
Josh: Yeah. I mean, to learn that pretty much your whole life has been shot to hell in a frickin' nightclub? Your deep, dark family secrets exposed to the public? It's just -- it's, like, surreal. Not to mention humiliating, infuriating, and wrong. You have no idea.
Amanda: I have some idea. My mom's in a psych ward for murdering my dad.
Josh: Well, here's to dysfunction.
Amanda: You have every right to hate J.R.
Josh: Oh, I do. I despise him. And I would do anything to get Babe away from him, give her what she deserves, but she doesn't want me to. And as much as I hate J.R., I love Babe even more.
Babe: Colby has already had a tough night.
Adam: It was that Sean Montgomery punk, wasn't it? He got you drunk and took advantage of you.
Colby: Dad, no, that is not what happened.
Adam: I'm going to have Jackson’s nephew locked up for the rest of his natural life.
Colby: Dad, you have it all wrong!
Adam: Well, then tell me who did this to you? One last chance. Who was it? It was Sean Montgomery, and it happened the night of your -- your Sweet 16.
Colby: No, it did not happen the night of my party. And it wasn't Sean. It was Josh Madden.
Babe: You're lying.
Colby: It's the truth, Daddy. This is all Josh’s fault.
Adam: Erica's son? He's a grown man.
Krystal: Colby, are you sure, honey? Think about it. I mean, you're tired, you're confused.
J.R.: Let her talk.
Colby: It happened after the night of my party and the boat wreck.
Babe: That's impossible. Josh was with me that night at Fusion.
J.R.: Not the whole night. When I went to pick you up, Josh was already long gone.
Colby: It was late. I was exhausted and scared. I was so scared. I already had the day from hell, and I somehow made it back here after the boat crash. But when I got here, I overheard J.R. say if they found me alive he'd kill me.
J.R.: I was flipping out! We all were.
Colby: I thought you'd just be happy if I went away. I thought you all would, so I ran away. I tore out of here a total mess. Josh drove by and asked if I was ok, and he made me get in his car.
J.R.: Well, what do you mean he made you? Did he grab you?
Colby: No, no. He just said that I wasn't looking so good, and I needed a thorough examination.
Adam: Oh, dear God. Jeez.
Colby: When we got back to his place, he took care of me. He was really nice -- ordered me soup, gave me brandy.
Adam: Alcohol? He gave you alcohol?
J.R.: This is sick.
Colby: Well --
J.R.: This is really sick.
Colby: He said it would warm me up, and then after I ate, I felt a little better, so I took a shower. And when I got out of the shower, he was there, telling me how beautiful I was, looking me into my eyes. He said I could trust him and that he'd protect me. And the next thing you knew, we were in bed, and he was on top of me, and it was happening. I -- I was terrified. I try to block it out, but there is one thing I do remember. In the middle of doing it, he called me "Babe."
Babe: Oh --
Colby: It was so freaky.
Babe: Rockin' performance, Colby. Two thumbs up on that one. How long did it take you to cook up that crock?
J.R.: My sister just -- just said that Josh cornered her into having sex, and you are defending that slime?
Babe: Josh is my friend, and I'm not going to let Colby drag him down with her bull.
J.R.: Why would she lie?
Babe: To cover her ass!
Adam: Shut up! Colby? Go on.
Colby: When it was over, I just laid there frozen, and when Josh fell asleep, I snuck out. And then I came back here, and I hid in the tunnel, and that's how Josh knew where to find me -- I told him that I hid there before. I was ashamed. I didn't want you to know that Josh got me into bed, and that's why I told you he was sleeping with Babe. He couldn't have you, so he took me instead. I didn't think that you would care. I didn't think that you would love me. But if you do love me, Daddy, J.R., you'll make Josh pay.
Josh: So I'm sticking around. If Babe needs me, I'm here.
Amanda: Could get messy.
Josh: Yeah, well, the way I feel about Babe, it's the only thing in my whole whacked-out life that isn't messy -- it's perfectly clear. I love Babe, and I am going to fight for her.
Erin: Hey. Thanks for letting me borrow Aidan.
Di: Well, sure. I won't say "anytime" --
Di: But I'm glad you worked things out with him.
Erin: Thank you.
[Holding two drinks, Di walks back to Aidan’s table.]
Di: Hmm? One sip, and I'm switching to club soda. I just couldn't resist. Jonathan said that they're the best margaritas in town. I bet I know, though, where we can find the best margaritas on the planet.
Aidan: Please enlighten me.
Di: Uh-huh -- Mexico.
Di: First, we can go scuba diving -- no, no, no, cage diving with great white sharks. You know, teeth and their eyes, and they're close enough to touch, and then we get out of there with our limbs intact, then we can celebrate over margaritas. I'll have to enjoy vicariously through you, of course, but it can be fun to watch. Game on?
Aidan: Am I English? Game on.
Di: Here's a toast -- to the game and both of us coming out as winners. Hmm. Hey. Aidan? Is everything ok?
Aidan: No, not really.
Annie: I mean, I -- I told Emma that her father died, but, you know, how do I -- or when do I tell her what Terry did, you know, what he was?
Ryan: Well, if and when you think that Emma can handle it, that's when.
Annie: I don't -- I can't even imagine doing that.
Ryan: Well, then you don't, especially not right now when you have so many positive things to -- to think about, to concentrate on. I mean, you have a -- you got a new great place to live.
Ryan: New life, new friends.
Annie: You -- you told me about your father, how hard your life was. How did you learn to -- to trust people?
Ryan: Huh. I made a lot of mistakes. I hurt a lot of people that I love. It's all based on fear, really -- I mean, fear that my father's rage, his hate, his violence would be passed down to me, and it was only a matter of time before it would come out.
Annie: Yeah, well, yet here you are, an amazing man, an incredible father.
Ryan: Huh. It took me a while, believe me, to realize that DNA -- DNA wasn’t necessarily destiny, you know? But Emma doesn't have to worry about that, because Terry's not her biological dad.
Annie: Yeah, I -- I thought about your offer to help find Emma’s biological father. Um -- I decided to leave it alone. Opening that box is -- is just way more than I can handle right now.
Dixie: So you're here to teach me a lesson, huh? Who are you?
David: I loved you so much.
Dixie: I know -- I know you did.
David: I was the one, Dixie. I was the one who wanted to give you what no one else could -- a chance at real happiness, a million chances, and you blew me off every single time. My God. I used to think you were an angel. What the hell was I thinking? Who am I? Who the hell are you? I'll tell you who you are -- you're an ungrateful, unfeeling tease who has no idea how to love.
Dixie: David, I wish I could go back and change everything. I wish I could have been the person that you wanted me to be. I wish I could heal all the pain that you feel that I caused you. I wish I could give you the love and the understanding that you so need. I wish I could bring back the little girl that you lost. You cannot keep me from mine. Please, David. Tell me the truth. Do you really know where Kate is?
Emma: Mommy, I can't sleep.
Annie: Baby girl. Come here.
Annie: Oh, my baby.
Ryan: I'll tell you what -- one federal tax code, coming right up.
Adam: Everything is going to be all right, sweetheart. I will finish this, I'll make it ok. I give you my word. Now, is there anything you need?
Colby: Just my daddy.
Adam: Oh, you've got him. I'll crush him! Josh Madden has preyed on his last unsuspecting female. When I'm done with him, he'll be of no use to any female ever again.
Babe: Josh never touched her. She's just mad at me outing her for the scammer she is.
J.R.: Josh Madden is a dead man.
[After J.R. walks out of the room, Babe shuts the door and turns to Colby.]
Babe: You lying bitch.
Colby: I'm a liar? Prove it.
Josh: You still want to knock me out cold? I emptied the bottle for you.
Amanda: Hmm. Nah. I kind of like you conscious. We can keep this nonviolent.
[Aidan grabs a bar patron from behind and shoves him against the bar with a loud crash.]
Aidan: Open your hand!
Aidan: What is that? You trying to slip your date a roofie, huh?
Jonathan: It is. Aidan, it is -- it's rufinol. This is a date rape drug.
Aidan: What kind of place do you think this is, mate, huh? You can't do that around here.
Jonathan: Thank you, Aidan. Thank you. Good work.
Ryan: Ok. That's right --
Ryan: From the beginning. Once upon a time where there was a magical land called Pine Valley with a beautiful princess named Emma!
[Annie and Ryan gasp]
Ryan: And a very handsome prince named Spike --
Ryan: Who were very destined, destined to bring joy and love and hot chocolate and marshmallows to the entire kingdom!
Ryan: But first they had to conquer the mean wolf who lived in the woods.
David: I wanted you to hurt, just like I did.
Ryan: You see, he did bad things to the people of Pine Valley.
David: Such despair, heartache. All your dreams blown to pieces. I never thought I'd find Kate. But I did. And when I realized that it was truly her, I knew I had won. I could keep you from your little girl forever.
Ryan: So one day the prince and the princess went to see the mean wolf to find out if he was really as mean as everyone said.
David: But standing here right now, looking at you, I can't do it.
Ryan: It turned out he wasn't really mean. He was just lonely and very, very sad.
David: Huh. I thought the golden ticket had fallen right into my lap. The power to keep you from your little girl would set me free. But it won’t. I'll just be living with that hate -- today, tomorrow, forever. And I just can't do it anymore. Maybe the -- the chance to have real revenge instead was given to me as a chance to make it up to you.
Ryan: The wolf spoke, and they listened, and then they made peace.
David: I took this, a few weeks ago. That is your daughter, Dixie. That is Kate.
[Holding a recent picture of her daughter, Dixie happily laughs.]
Ryan: And everyone lived happily ever after.
Dixie: Oh. Did you really find my daughter?
Dixie: Where is she?
David: Right here, Dixie. She's right in Pine Valley. I'll take you to her.
[Ryan tenderly covers Emma and Annie with a blanket as they fall asleep.]
Babe: You are going to tell J.R. and your father the truth -- Josh never laid a hand on you.
Colby: You ought to know, right, Babe? Josh never did lay a hand on me, because he was too busy laying you.
Josh: Looks like it's time to call it a night.
Aidan: ConFusion, that's right. Hey, don't worry about it -- they're already here.
Jonathan: Well, that was quick. Thank you. Him right there.
Officer: That's who?
Jonathan: That's the scum that was trying to slip his date a roofie.
Officer: Yeah, we'll call backup for him. We're here to find Josh Madden.
Colby: Your only chance to save Josh from death by Chandler -- fess up and tell J.R. the truth.
Josh: Yeah, I'm Josh Madden. What's this about?
Colby: If you don't come clean, your lover boy is headed straight to prison.
Officer: Josh Madden, you're under arrest for statutory rape. You have the right to remain silent.
Officer: Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Josh: This is ridiculous.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Colby (to Josh): You used me.
Erica: J.R., you know if Josh was foolish enough to go to bed with a Chandler, it sure as heck wouldn't be Colby.
Krystal (to Babe): There has got to be some way to blow Josh out of the hot seat without blowing your marriage out of the water.
Dixie (to Ryan): That's our daughter. I know it.
