J.R.: Babe should've gotten Madden out of that meat locker by now.
Jamie: Look, I'm sorry I got you mixed up into this mess.
J.R.: As if I was going to turn down a chance to deal with Madden.
Jamie: And I'm sorry if this causes more grief with Babe.
J.R.: Oh, yeah, right. The new me is real ashamed of the new you, Jamie. What, are we switching jobs here?
Jamie: Yeah, something like that. It's dark already. What's keeping her?
Babe: Come on, open. Ugh! Didn't they make anything childproof? Anyone hear me? Of course not. No. No, no, I am not freezing to death in here. Anyone here? J.R.? Jamie, please! Somebody get me out of here!
J.R.: Don't worry about waiting. I'll hang around for Babe.
Jamie: Sure you don't need a little backup?
J.R.: You've done plenty. And I'm sure Babe will take it easier on me if the original predator isn't around.
Jamie: Gotcha. One instigator out.
Josh: I know you did it, you sick punk!
J.R.: I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about.
Josh: You locked me in that frozen meat locker.
J.R.: You look cold. Maybe you should've brought a jacket.
Zach: You look beautiful tonight.
Kendall: Thank you. So do you. And I must say I have had tons of beauty sleep lately, so --
Zach: Well, I'm glad you can smile about it.
Kendall: Well, you know, I have a fantastic son who is getting stronger every day and a gorgeously rugged husband who I adore.
Zach: Sounds good to me.
Kendall: Besides, you're spending the night with me and not in the big house, so I say let's party.
Singer: Don't need to fall in love
Kendall: Go ahead. She is obviously upset, and the world wants to know why. Let's go. Ahem. Hey, Dixie. What's new?
Dixie: Nothing. Nothing's ever new. Huh. I may go to my grave not knowing where my daughter is because Greg Madden would rather rot in his grave than tell me.
Greg: Oh, this can't be right. You don't want this. You don't want to do this to me. So you want answers out of me? This water -- oh. You'll never find out where that child is unless you stop this. You can't treat me like this. You got to stop this lunacy! I can't breathe in this condition. I hate you! Why -- something's happening. Something's happening.
Josh: When are you going to solve your own problems? Sending Babe to that meat locker -- bad form.
J.R.: What is this about a meat locker?
Josh: Give it up, Junior. How many times is that woman going to bail you out before she gets sick of you?
J.R.: I'm not sure. How does it feel to have somebody sick of you?
Josh: You know what? Give it time, she'll come through.
J.R.: We've given it time and she's onboard.
Josh: You do not deserve her.
J.R.: Now tell me something I haven't heard. Isn't it rough to ponder over and over why you keep not getting anywhere with my wife?
Josh: Who says I'm not making progress?
J.R.: You know, instead of sheep, do you lie awake at night counting how many times she shot you down? Once on the Fusion rooftop, at the nursery, at the hospital? Wow. I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
Josh: Well, if you want, I could put you down right now.
J.R.: Yeah, I can understand why women don't go for you -- such attitude.
Josh: Next to you, J.R., I'm a model citizen.
J.R.: Maybe, but your father likes to rip families apart, and Babeís about family. So why don't you stick to your nurses. She's out of your league.
Josh: What if Babe doesn't want me to?
J.R.: Have you noticed that your father's gone? You could be next.
Josh: Is it my turn to be scared?
J.R.: You know, you keep pushing me, you're going to end up with your daddy.
Greg: How many days? How many days has it been since you put me in here? Why are you doing this? You need me. You need me -- unless I've become a nuisance to you. Oh -- oh, God. God. Oh. Maybe you found out where the Kate child is from somebody else. Maybe you don't need me anymore. Maybe you're going to leave me here. You got your answers. Maybe something happened to you. Maybe you're dead.
Babe: J.R. -- J.R., I'm in here! Open up, please! Oh, God!
J.R.: Are you ok?
Babe: Yeah, I'm fine now.
J.R.: Did Josh do this to you? Did he hurt you?
Babe: No, no, no, he didnít. I did this to myself. I -- I locked myself in there. My --
J.R.: But he still left you in there. I'm going to kick his --
Babe: No, no! Please, no more meat hooks. He -- he wasn't even here when it happened, he didn't even have a clue. It's no worries, I'm fine. I -- I wasn't even scared, I was just cold.
J.R.: Then blame me.
Babe: I do blame you and -- and Jamie. You put Josh in there without even thinking.
J.R.: And you got stuck in the middle again.
Babe: Yeah, well, when you and Jamie egg each other on, no one's safe.
J.R.: No, those whacked-out Maddens started this.
Babe: "They started this"? Are you really going to say that? You sound like our son.
J.R.: All right, fine, Jamie shouldn't have tossed Josh in there. But you're freezing right now, and you need to get home.
Zach: Wherever Madden is, he will talk someday. It's only a matter of time.
Dixie: Right. "Time." There it is again, except time is not going to bring Kate back to me. What you want me to do is hope, and that is all I do. I hope, I pray. And what does it get me? More mistakes, more nothing. Excuse me.
Singer: It's something I never had hey, hey, all right I want you
Kendall: Um -- Dixie, I'm -- I'm really, truly sorry about your daughter. Zach explained everything to me, and I understand better now what you've been going through. And apparently I owe you for warning Zach about Greg.
Dixie: Look, I just told Zach to get you away from Greg, because it was too late for me.
Kendall: Well, I was lucky, because of you, and I'll never forget that. So whatever help you need -- from Zach, from us -- I'm there, we're both there. That will not be a problem. Just don't lose hope. You've got Zach on your side, you've got Tad, you've got everyone else here who will help you.
Tad: What the hell do you think you're doing?
Tad: Is this how you deal now when the going gets tough -- by getting sloshed?
Dixie: Oh, my God. Go away, Tad.
Tad: Or is this some kind of misguided audition for sympathy? Because you're not going to get it from me.
Dixie: You know, I don't recall anyone inviting you to this party.
Tad: It's not a party, it's pathetic.
Zach: The lady isn't bothering anybody. Lay off or get out.
Kendall: Ok, maybe this is our cue to leave, Zach.
Tad: Don't tell me how to talk to her about this, Slater -- especially about this. She's got one kidney left. She shouldn't touch liquor.
Dixie: You know, why don't you just leave me alone? And don't go spouting my medical file as if you care. You hate me, remember?
Tad: I care about J.R. You remember -- the son that we just pulled out of a bottle?
Dixie: Don't you dare talk to me as if I've forgotten my son.
Tad: Have you forgotten he's in recovery? How do you think he's going to feel when he sees you drowning your problems like this?
Dixie: Look, you -- you want somebody to take care of? Oh! There's my sister, Di, right there. Di, why don't you come over here and join this party?
Tad: Your son has mourned for you long enough. He shouldn't have to watch while you slowly kill yourself.
J.R.: I am so sorry that you were locked in that freezer.
Babe: You know, I was sitting there wondering if I could use a rack of lamb for a pillow tonight when it hit me -- I was paying the price you and Jamie had meant for Josh. It wasn't fun. Not a fan.
J.R.: That's why we didn't want to get you involved.
Babe: But you shouldn't have do it in the first place.
J.R.: Hey, it's not like we were trying to hurt the guy and let him freeze to death in there.
Babe: And just what, freeze him a little bit, maybe the tips of his toes?
J.R.: We have to find our sister.
Babe: So start up the snow cone machine and dump Josh in?
J.R.: Whatever it takes to get answers out of his father.
Greg: This is how you thought you'd get answers out of me -- keep me in this filth till I got sick, like a cold or typhoid. I'll get delirious and just tell you everything you wanted to know. You're so clever -- is that what you thought? Are you even listening to me? Don't you even care? Or do you just come by late at night after the bar closes and the bowling alley? Can you hear me?
Dixie: Why don't you just get to the point, Tad? This isn't about my drinking.
Tad: You believe what you want to.
Dixie: Oh. Come on, just do it. Just -- why don't you just tell everybody how stupid I am?
Di: Dixie, why don't we take you upstairs?
Dixie: No, I actually believed that David Hayward had a lead on my daughter, and so guess what -- I ended up in a motel room with him.
Tad: You sleep with who you want to. I just want to pull you out of the --
Zach: All right, that's enough.
Julia: Oh -- Jamie. I -- uh -- I -- oh, I didn't see you.
Jamie: Well, it's me.
Julia: I -- you surprised me.
Jamie: I was just trying to get away from people for a while.
Julia: Oh. Did it work?
Jamie: Does it look like it?
Jamie: So what are you doing here?
Julia: Ahem. Oh, I'm just out taking a walk, checking out the view from the beach.
Jamie: And how is it?
Julia: The view or the beach?
Julia: The view's very nice, thank you.
Jamie: Julia, it's dark. There is no view.
Julia: Not from where I'm standing.
Jamie: So should I get dressed, or would you like to go for a swim?
Julia: Oh, I'm just out taking a walk. Ahem. So you want to be left alone?
Jamie: Not anymore.
Julia: Who you trying to get away from?
Jamie: Same old -- people who get me going. Hmm. I lost it today. I hung Josh Madden on a meat hook.
Zach: I don't care what you two have to say to each other. The public display is over. I have other customers.
Kendall: Ok, Zach, maybe we should go to the bar.
Zach: Are you two finished?
Tad: Not quite. Would you please come home?
Di: Oh --
Dixie: What the hell do you think you're doing?
Josh: Oh, what do we have here? It's the whole get-along gang -- just who I wanted to see.
Tad: This doesn't concern you.
Josh: Oh, it does. See, I want all you vigilantes to put your torches away and get something straight. I didn't know what my father was doing, and I have no idea where he is, so all of you can just back the hell off.
Tad: Let's go.
Dixie: Hey, who do you think you are?
Tad: Someone who doesn't want to finish this conversation in public. Please come with me.
Kendall: Zach, this is between them.
Singer: Start expecting miracles
Babe: Hey, Little Aís down for the count. He didn't even move when I went to check on him.
J.R.: How are you?
Babe: Better after the bath, thanks.
J.R.: Nothing that six jets can't fix.
Babe: I'm not so sure about that.
J.R.: I never thought you'd get trapped in there. I never saw it coming.
Babe: You never do.
J.R.: We'll figure out another way to find Kate, one that won't even come close to you.
Babe: You know, when -- um -- when I said it was no big deal, that I wasn't scared? That wasn't true. Being trapped in there, all I could think about was being stuck in Janetís freezer just waiting to die, like a block of meat.
J.R.: Babe, you're safe. I promised you that, I mean it. Look, sometimes -- sometimes I get a little caught up. I do -- I do stupid things a lot when it comes to my family. Jamie -- it's hard not to help, I want to jump right in.
Babe: Yeah, but the problem is, is when you jump, it's headfirst, and it's into the no-diving end. The rest of your family needs you, too -- me and Little A.
J.R.: All right, I get it. I won't pick any more fights. It won't happen again.
Babe: Yes, it will, but just try to keep it to a minimum, and don't break any more laws. You're out of second-chances.
J.R.: With you, too, right?
Babe: How do I love you so much? Why you?
J.R.: That's a good question. Maybe because I'm so good at warming you up.
Tad: Not a chance.
Dixie: Tad, get out.
Tad: We're not finished yet.
Dixie: Look, this is my room. I am not drinking. I left my glass on the table, ok? Are you happy now? Look, Tad, you made your point, ok? Huh, I get it -- we hate each other now. Fine. Get out!
Julia: I hope you have a big glossy blowup of Dr. Josh on ice, because I want to put it in the nurses' room. No -- I'm going to put it on the Internet.
Jamie: Can't help you there.
Julia: Well, I wish I could've seen his face.
Jamie: Julia, it was the wrong thing to do. I shouldn't have let Josh get to me, but he just kept going on and on about how his dad saved Kate from becoming a Martin. So I lost it.
Julia: It's understandable.
Jamie: There's a little girl out there somewhere, someone I've never met, and she's my sister. So when I think of Madden -- both of them --
Julia: You can talk to me.
Jamie: Let's just say putting Josh in a deep freeze is the least of it. J.R.ís not the only one in our family with a dark side.
Julia: How dark?
Jamie: I'm surprising myself. Until now, I had no idea what I was capable of.
Greg: If I die, you'll never find out where that child is. And you'll get no return in your investment of this trouble of burying me. You'll get nothing. Nothing.
Greg: What is that? What is that? Something moved. Get me out of here! Get me out of here! Get me out of here!
Greg: Ok. Ok. I'll do whatever you want. I'll do whatever you want me to do. Just speak to me. Just speak to me. Tell me you're here. I'll tell you where the child is. I'll tell you everything.
Kendall: No sense letting a good time go to waste. Oh, yeah. What? You're not the drink police now, are you? Come on, it's not going to hurt anybody. Besides, I'm not nursing Spike. Mmm. I couldn't even if I wanted to. All those drugs they pumped into me have me a little past the expiration date, if you know what I mean.
Kendall: Mm-hmm. So, I was having a wonderful night with my husband.
Zach: You still can.
Kendall: Yeah. We can have a few drinks here and enjoy. Mmm -- this is yummy. It's been months. I think next time I'm going to have a Cosmo.
Zach: Whatever you want.
Kendall: That's what I'm saying. You know, all those months I was carrying my son, I was cheated out of bringing him home, because he was a preemie -- just one more thing that woman's nasty psycho son cheated me out of.
J.R.: I'm sorry. I -- I shouldn't have gone there. I know that you're not ready for that.
Babe: J.R., wait. I -- I want to, I -- I do. I just -- I'm afraid.
J.R.: I deserve that.
Babe: I want to. I -- I love you, but I'm afraid that I just can't forget.
J.R.: I don't expect you to.
Babe: J.R., you wanted me gone, and not just out of your life -- dead and gone -- and that crushed me. Does loving you matter if can't forget how you broke my heart?
Dixie: What are you doing? I have one drink, and suddenly I'm a drunk?
Tad: It's more than that, and you know it.
Tad: You're no longer some pathetic loner wandering the world all on your own. You're a mother again. You have a son that wants and needs you. You got an obligation to matter to him.
Dixie: Look, Tad, I had barely, barely one glass of champagne, not in front of J.R. I don't intend to do anything to make him go back to drinking.
Tad: What -- let's face it, Dix, you didn't intend to do a lot of things, but you did them, anyway.
Dixie: Oh, that's nice. So, what, the -- the great Tad Martin is now going to jump in and protect me from myself?
Tad: Why not? Couldn't possibly be any worse than you protecting our daughter. You remember Kate -- the daughter you decided I couldn't possibly love well enough?
Dixie: Oh, yes, I'm sorry. Perhaps it was just me that you couldn't love well enough.
Tad: Who knows? You never gave me a chance. You just let us all think you were dead.
Dixie: So things are better, now that I'm alive?
Tad: I don't know. But at least it's a hell of a lot more honest.
Dixie: Honesty? You want honesty? That's ridiculous. The only thing you ever hear is what you want to hear. You know, I breathe around here, and it's just one big mistake that's hurting everybody.
Tad: You made your bed.
Dixie: And David can lie in it.
Tad: Like I said, I don't care who you sleep with.
Dixie: Oh, right. Oh, God, Tad, just get out.
Dixie: Are you finished?
Tad: Slater going to be mad?
Dixie: Would you just get out of my room?
Tad: No, no, no, it's a relevant question! I mean, let's face it -- you've been living really, really well for a dead woman. You afraid he's going to start charging you for the room?
Dixie: You know what? Don't you start trashing Zach. He is the one person who understands how I feel about losing my child.
Tad: And I don't? I don't -- is that what you're saying? No, come on, who are you to decide what I do or don't feel? Because you're doing it all over again. You think you know what I'm thinking, so you decide that Zach cares more about Kate than I do, that he misses her more than I do. Well, I understand plenty, Dixie. Me, not Zach. As far as I'm concerned, I hurt more than enough, because Kate is my daughter, too.
Di: What are you doing here? I mean, don't people have enough problems without PIs messing in everyone's lives?
Aidan: Obviously you have a problem.
Di: You know what? And if you're here to stalk me about Annie McDermott, I've told you already, Aidan, I haven't seen her in years.
Aidan: Don't flatter yourself, Di. I'm not here for you, I'm just here to get a drink.
Singer: Too late 'cause there you are all my thoughts collide
Julia: You're not the only one with a dark side. It's no secret anymore. I went after a man who killed my husband, and I made him pay.
Jamie: You had every right to do that. Hell, maybe it was even your duty. Anyone who goes after your family, takes a life -- they deserve what they get.
Greg: Ok, you won. You won. You won, do you hear me? I'll tell you everything. You'll be the hero. Don't you want to be a hero? Don't you want to go off and be victorious? This is your last chance. This is your last-ditch effort, but you got to speak to me. I'm not leaving this on a tape, and then you're going to leave me here to die. No. No, you got to speak to me. You answer me, you imbecile. This is everything you've waited for. I'll tell you. I'll tell you where Dixieís child is. Answer me. I'll tell you the truth. Answer me.
Julia: I hate Greg Madden. He didn't hurt me as much as -- as he did other women, but he tried.
Jamie: But you saw the truth. He couldn't pull his crud on you.
Julia: Other people controlled my whole life when I was in the Witness Protection Program -- where I lived, what I did, even what my name was. I got out of there so I could have my own life, I could make my own decisions.
Julia: He tried to tell me that I couldn't have a child. It was like somebody took back all those decisions.
Jamie: He can't come after you anymore.
Julia: Telling women who can and can't have babies.
Jamie: Julia, I can't even begin to understand how you feel. I just know my feelings for Little Adam. When I was with him, running with Babe, keeping him safe was the only thing that counted. No matter what courts or papers said for that time, I was his dad. And it killed me when he was taken away.
Julia: And Maddenís already taken away too much from too many women.
Jamie: Not anymore.
Julia: I have dreams about punishing him, and I want them to go on forever.
Kendall: Tad's not going to hurt Dixie, and you know he's not, so you can just -- you can relax.
Zach: I'm relaxed. I'm here with you.
Kendall: You know I wouldn't want to be a fly on that wall. Tad has a right to be mad, and when I say "mad," I mean livid as hell.
Zach: Dixie's trying to find her daughter.
Singer: I see it in your eyes
Kendall: Yeah. So there's really not much difference there, is there? Not much difference between what Madden did to Dixie and what Dixie did to Tad.
Singers: Some things stay the same
Zach: What are you talking about?
Singer: It hangs in the air
Kendall: Well, Greg kept Dixieís child from her, and Dixie kept Tadís child from him. Even -- even if she were dying, she could've picked up the phone and said, "Hey, Tad, I did something horrible, but please help me find our daughter." But she didnít. Tad had no idea.
Zach: Dixie's not Madden. She's trying to bring her daughter home for everyone. That's not the same.
Singers: All I know is
Kendall: Well, it's pretty close. How did you feel when you found out your father had kept your son from you?
Tad: Tell me something -- when are you going to stop making decisions for me?
Dixie: I don't know, Tad. You're the one who decided to barge in here and have it out.
Tad: No, no, no, no, big decisions -- I mean, life decisions. When do I get a vote in my own life? Hmm? When do I get to say what matters, like my family? When do I get a chance to say "I want my daughter" -- when you invite me? Like this is some kind of karmic game of mother-may-I? Well, you better fill me in, Dixie, because I didn't get your memo telling me how to feel, so I don't know. But then again, I never got anything from you.
Dixie: It wasn't like that. You didn't want a child. You made that perfectly clear.
Tad: I swear -- sometimes it's like you never knew me at all.
Di: Sorry, I was out of line.
Aidan: Don't worry about it.
Singer: Can you feel it, too?
Di: I had no right to go off on you like that.
Aidan: I'm getting used to it today.
Di: Where's Erin?
Aidan: I don't know.
Di: She is going to meet you here later on?
Di: Something wrong?
Aidan: Yeah, you could say that.
Singer: Some things stay the same
Aidan: Erin broke up with me.
Singer: And it hangs in the air
Di: What? I just saw you guys. You were -- you're nuts about each other.
Aidan: Yeah, well, I guess I'm just nuts.
Di: Well -- you realize this doesn't make any sense?
Aidan: That thought has crossed my mind, yeah.
Di: Wow. I mean, you guys are the best things that had happened to one another.
Aidan: That's exactly what I thought, but she had other ideas.
Di: Can I ask what happened?
Aidan: Yeah, you can. I can't give you an answer, though, because I don't know what happened.
Di: Well, I think the house needs to buy you a drink.
Aidan: You're the best thing that's happened to me all day.
Singer: Suddenly you smile I go to pieces like a waterfall
J.R.: I know that I don't deserve a look or a word from you. All I can say is I was crazy then. I felt like the whole world was laughing at me. And I blamed you because I had the wrong you in my head. I had my mother in there and Janet -- everyone except for the one person who mattered, the woman who I married in the gardens in the spring. And I never wanted to hurt that woman. Look, I know that I can't make it right, because it's always going to be there. But the one thing that I can do and that I will do is every day I'll try to make it different. I'll try to make it better until we have enough good days that it -- it won't feel like me. It won't -- it won't feel like I did it. I want to be the someone who looks out after you. I want to be the someone who loves you. I want to be the someone who kisses you to sleep at night.
Julia: Is it terrible -- wanting Madden to suffer?
Jamie: Julia, the people that make us feel this way, they're the terrible ones. So don't judge yourself too hard. I don't.
Jamie: I like you just as dark as you are.
Tad: After all this time, you still don't get it. All I wanted was you.
Dixie: But not our baby.
Tad: Of course, I wanted our baby. I wanted our child. That was our dream, remember? But that was a dream I had to accept wasn't going to come true, because I wasn't willing to sacrifice your life to make it come true. I had to make a choice, so I chose you.
Dixie: You didn't have to choose.
Tad: Of course, I had to! You were there, you heard the same doctors I did! You think I wanted to go through what -- what Zach and Ryan just went through? To have to watch over you and know that I was either going to lose you or our child or maybe even both? All I wanted was you. I wanted you alive and healthy and happy. It was never about not wanting Kate. It was just about loving you. Always. It was just about loving you.
Kendall: Sorry I brought up Ethan.
Zach: Hmm. No need to apologize.
Singer: Isn't it
Kendall: Aren't you going to argue with me and tell me that Dixieís situation is different?
Zach: No. There's nothing to argue about. You're right about everything you said.
Singer: Got time on my side
Kendall: Wow. Never thought I'd hear you say that.
Zach: Doesn't stop me from feeling badly for Dixie.
Singer: I'm trying to believe that
Kendall: Well, I -- I feel bad for them both.
Singer: Everything I feel each day is not enough
[Ice cubes clink]
Kendall: What the hell? What --
Greg: Get me out of here, I'll take you there myself. I'll take you to the child. The name -- the name of the parents is --
Babe: Oh, my God.
J.R.: That good, huh?
Babe: No, the earth moved.
J.R.: For you, too?
Babe: No, stop it. I'm serious, the earth really did move.
Greg: God, no.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Kendall (to Zach): It's time for you to hold your stepson.
Dixie (to David): Find me a child that's the right age, blonde, brunette, I don't care. Fake the DNA tests. I need to give Tad a daughter.
Babe (to J.R.): I love you, and I trust you with my life.
