Greg: Ah -- hey! Can you hear me? Are you listening? Oh. The water -- I'm going to drown! You trying to kill me? You want to kill me? You take me out and do it face to face. Where are you? Oh!
Lily: I used to spin when I was little. The sounds and the images go so fast in my head that when I spin, they turn into a blur and they don't bother me as much. It's still really fun. Hey, it stopped raining.
Jonathan: Well, good thing. It was getting too muddy to play Frisbee. And -- look. The thunder's gone, too.
Lily: I'm not scared of it anymore. Because of you. You make me brave. When we get a house, can we have a sprinkler?
Jonathan: Sure. Or a pool. Or a waterfall. Anything you want.
Lily: Well, unfortunately, we don't have room in our budget for a pool or a waterfall.
Jonathan: Well, I could build one. Like I did the tree house. What? Lily, what is it?
Lily: Somebody's here. Over there.
Jonathan: Hello? Is -- is anybody there?
Aidan: What is going on in that gorgeous he of yours? Care to tell me?
Erin: I think we should stop.
Aidan: But that's the whole fun of kissing. Start, stop, start again.
Erin: I don't mean the kiss, Aidan. I -- I mean us.
Aidan: Well, "us" as in the relationship?
Erin: Yeah. I think we should cool it for a while.
J.R.: Excuse us. I'd like to talk to my wife.
Josh: First, why don't we finish what you started?
Kendall: All right, let me get this stuff together before we go back and see my Spikey. What are you doing over here?
Kendall: Well, you're not here for samples.
Tad: Where's Dixie?
David: Not exactly five star, but it should do the trick.
Zach: Do you mind? I'm kind of busy here.
Tad: Don't mind me. Hell, I got all the free time in the world, between searching the globe for my daughter, trying to track down my ex-wife. Which leads us back to the afore-queried question. Let's see if you give me a straight answer. Do you know where Dixie is or not?
Kendall: Why -- did something happen?
Zach: Don't ask him any questions. He'll only end up staying longer.
Tad: I'm on the trail of a woman who was in the clinic with Dixie when she gave birth. The trail's cold. I got to find Dixie to jog her memory to see if she can come up with anything. So, can you cut the cute stuff? Just give me a direct answer? Where is she?
Kendall: Ok, did I miss something? Is there a reason why you can't give him an answer?
Zach: Dixie found a lead. It's a couple that adopted a baby up in Scarsdale, New York.
Kendall: Oh, what?
Kendall: Is that bad? Why is that bad?
Tad: It's a dead end. I know all about that family up in Scarsdale. Their daughter is at least a year older than Kate. Dixie's going to follow that lead all the way to heartache, all over again.
David: Hey, not such a great selection at the vending machine. Between these and the peanuts you got on the road, we got nothing. So how about some pizza? I'm sure they have a delivery service somewhere.
Dixie: Why don't we just go to their house now?
David: Because they're not home yet, Dixie. They're still coming back from vacation.
Dixie: We could just sit outside in the car, wait till they drive up, watch the little girl when she gets out of the car, and if I can just get a look at her face, then I --
David: Then what? Then what? Freak them out so they call the police? It's dark, Dixie, it's late.
Dixie: So --
David: If we show up without -- without even calling them -- just show up and ask questions about their daughter, no warning --
Dixie: We just wait until tomorrow, then?
David: I know it's hard.
Dixie: It's impossible. Why am I even doing this? This is always the same. It's always the same thing. It's another false lead. It's always like this. It's never my Kate. Look, let's just go, ok? Let's get in the car. Can you take me home? Because I can't stand this anymore, David, really.
David: Wait a minute, wait a minute. You miss your daughter terribly, so much that it's killing you inside. I know how that feels, Dixie. And what makes it worse is that you've had to be too strong for too long. No one there to help you. No break, no release. Well, that is going to change right here, right now. Because I'm here for you, Dixie. So if you ever feel too tired or -- or frustrated or frightened, just let me do what has to be done. Because I will never give up. Whether it's this house or the next one or the next. We are going to find your little girl, I promise you.
Dixie: What's gotten into you? Why don't you hate me?
Aidan: Where is all this coming from?
Erin: My brain. I'm -- I'm so busy. I'm -- I'm overwhelmed. I've got -- I've got Fusion, I've got the Miranda Center, I've got Ryan and the baby, I've got Jonathan and Lily, and -- I went from having practically no life in Canada to having --
Aidan: A real life here. Which I thought would be a good thing.
Erin: Yeah, it should be a good thing, but it's not. I'm confused and I'm anxious and I'm stressed. And I need some time to clear my head, ok? I need time to figure out if what I think I feel is actually how I feel. Does that make sense?
Aidan: Yeah. That makes perfect sense. Priorities, feelings, job. Makes perfect sense. You want to tell me what's really going on?
Amanda: Hey, you two.
Jonathan: Amanda? Well, you -- you have really good ears.
Amanda: Oh, look at you. You look fabulous. So not like the last time I saw you two here. You are not allowed to get sick
pass out anymore. We need you around too much.
Jonathan: Oh -- well, I wonít.
Amanda: Oh, come here. Lily, you were right. You said that everything would be fine. Jonathan would be ok and everything would go back to being good again, and you were right. Everything's practically perfect, isn't it?
J.R.: I asked you to leave.
Josh: Like I care what you want. But whatever Babe wants -- you ok?
J.R.: Like she needs you around? Why? So you can be just like your father and snatch my son?
Josh: All right, death wish, you want to go over the side? It's fine by me.
Babe: Ok, ok. Let it go, ok? Enough of this he-man, chest-beating stuff, both of you.
J.R.: This arrogant SOB might know where his father stashed my sister.
Babe: He doesn't know.
J.R.: Why, because he told you so?
Babe: Because he promised me he would try to find out.
J.R.: Trying to play hero with my wife?
Babe: Stop it.
J.R.: I don't even need to ask you why.
Babe: J.R. --
Josh: As opposed to trying to kill her?
Babe: Ok, you, too -- why is it that you're always poking at J.R. trying to get a rise out of him, and how can you be a decent person with me one minute, and when J.R.ís within 50 feet, you just --
Josh: I already let him get closer than that earlier today. And it was a big mistake on my part.
Babe: Ok, look, you've done me some favors in the past, and that's great and all, but I only let so much slide until you're on my bad side. And believe me, that's not a place you want to be.
Josh: You're the boss.
J.R.: Do you ever stop sucking up to my wife?
Josh: I promised I would help find Kate. And yeah, I did it for Babe. And you want to know why? To give her one less thing to worry about while she's married to you.
J.R.: Let's get out of here.
Babe: Not until you tell me what you're not telling me.
Babe: Come on. You came up here and you saw me actively not hating Josh, a guy that you really, really hate. So if you have a reaction -- which we both know that u do -- go on, react. Talk to me before this turns into something big and crazy and way bigger than it needs to be.
J.R.: All right. Do I want to smash his face in? Yes, for more reasons than you guys just being up here.
Babe: Ok, I hear you. Now comes the big stuff. What's next?
J.R.: No, will I throw down a "him or me, you never get to see him again" deal?
Babe: Will you?
Babe: So is there something bigger and scarier that I should be worried about?
J.R.: He's a jackass. Whatever. It's who you are. Your heart, your truth, and that's all that really matters.
Tad: How many rings you got that thing on anyway? She's turned off her phone.
Zach: Even her voicemail?
Tad: Why is she doing this on her own?
Zach: She's trying to find her daughter.
Kendall: Ok, wait a minute. She tells you, but doesn't tell you where she's going and what her leads are. You being the father and you clearly not the father. I -- how the hell does that make any sense?
Tad: You want to handle this or should I? Dixie and I aren't exactly chummy right now.
Kendall: Ok, and what does that mean? That Zach and Dixie are?
Tad: No. That means Dixie thinks that Zach is trying to be helpful. See, we don't want to retread over the same leads. So she assumes that whatever he would know, I would know, which I don't. So would you care to let me in on it now?
Zach: I let you in. She found a lead and went to Scarsdale.
Tad: That's it? That's everything? Where did she come up with this lead?
Zach: She didn't say.
Josh: I know. Dixie got the lead from David Hayward.
David: Why would I hate you?
Dixie: David, I've given you 1,000 reasons to hate me.
David: Yeah, well, from where I stand, I have one huge reason not to. I love you, Dixie. I know that's not what you want to hear right now. I get that. And I'm not saying it to pressure you or to get you to say something you don't mean. Just so you know that someone cares, no matter what.
Dixie: No matter what.
Dixie: Thank you. David, I left, ok? I ran away. I stayed away. Every second I was gone was another lie I told.
David: If you're looking for condemnation, you've come to the wrong guy. I'm certainly in no position to judge you, Dixie. And even if I were, you're a good, loving, honest woman. Whatever you've done you felt you needed to do.
Dixie: I gave away my child. That was my fault.
David: No, that was not your fault, it was Greg Maddenís fault. And he's the one that should burn in hell. I understand why you stayed away. I know why you didn't come home without your little girl. Because you're you, Dixie. And thank God. I mean, my only regret --
Dixie: Ah, you only have one? That must feel amazing.
David: My only regret is that you didn't come home sooner and ask for my help. I want to give you everything, Dixie. I do. Your child, your life. I do want you to have it all.
Workman: Watch out for the mud. Drainage pipe backed up, soaked this area pretty good.
Jonathan: Ok. Thank you. We'll be careful.
Amanda: Ugh. Well, still not the right shoes for mud. Too late. So were you guys here the whole time, through the storm?
Lily: It was more like showers with distant thunder.
Jonathan: We had a great time.
Lily: My husband and I teach each other things.
Amanda: I am so happy for both of you.
Lily: Why are you happy for us?
Amanda: Because. You said you wanted to be together when everyone said you shouldn't, and now you are. So you proved that you were right.
Lily: But what about you? Have you changed your mind? Do you want Jonathan as your boyfriend now?
Amanda: Well --
Lily: Well, why is that funny? It's not funny to me.
Amanda: No, I'm sorry, Lily. No, no, no. I didn't change my mind. I don't want Jonathan as my boyfriend.
Jonathan: What made you think that, Lily?
Lily: She kissed your face and said that you look great.
Amanda: He does.
Lily: So you do want him?
Amanda: Lily, part of the reason I like Jonathan is because he's so good for you. You guys make each other laugh. And I really like him, but I am not interested in him romantically. Jonathan is your great guy, and he always will be.
Lily: Yes, he will be. And our marriage vows specifically stated "until death do us part."
Jonathan: Which is going to be a really long time.
Amanda: Well, in the meantime, I would really like to hang out with you two and play fifth wheel, maybe be your best friend.
Lily: Oh, I'm sorry, you can't do that.
Amanda: Oh. Ok. Can I ask why?
Lily: Because Jonathan and I are each other's best friends.
Erin: Tell you what's really going on? Meaning? What, meaning I couldn't possibly want to back away from the you-me thing?
Aidan: Well, it sounds to me like you do. I just want to know why.
Erin: I -- Aidan, I told you why. Oh. What, should -- should it have been bigger? More dramatic? Because, sorry, my life has got enough drama in it right now -- which is the point. And you -- look at you. You're just as busy as I am. You got stacks of papers and files and your partner's daughter missing out there in the world somewhere. You should be concentrating on Kate, not me.
Aidan: I have been concentrating on Kate. I'm doing as much as I can as often as I can. And then I like to stop and I like to think about the woman that I love. Until 10 minutes ago, she loved me back. So can you see why I'm -- I'm feeling like I'm missing something here?
Erin: No, Aidan, please. Don't make this any harder than this is for me. Please, just --
Aidan: All right. Ok. Ok. For the record, I love you.
Erin: I know, I know. I just -- I just -- I can't right now. I'm just -- I need time. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
J.R.: Check it out. J.R. Chandler, the master of too damn much. Too much anger, too much booze. Too many things I didn't have the guts to say. And you, the woman who deserves more than my way too much. What do you get instead? You get to worry about me being plastered. Completely out of it, not knowing whether or not I'm going to cause trouble.
Babe: The fight that you have -- it is long and ugly. And all I keep thinking about is you telling me about your sister and all the stuff that happened to Hayley because of booze. And now here you are, and all I want to do is, I just want to help.
J.R.: You do. By still being here.
Babe: Yeah, but I want to do more. I got into it with Kendall today.
J.R.: About what? Dropping the charges?
Babe: Partly. And partly because she wants Fusion to open a bar.
J.R.: Smart move. Branding the Fusion lifestyle.
Babe: I know, it's -- it's a great idea.
J.R.: But you didn't tell her that.
Babe: All I kept thinking about was -- was company parties and an open bar and you there in your gray Armani.
Babe: How could I do that to you?
J.R.: Babe, you can't protect me from every bottle in the world. You can't fight this for me.
Babe: But I care about you.
J.R.: I know you do. And that's why I trust you with Josh, Fusion, and any other decision that you're going to make. We love each other. We'll get through the rest of this, no matter what it is.
Dixie: I don't know why you would do this for me. Kate isn't even your child.
David: I was there with you, Dixie. After you found out you were pregnant, I knew what that meant to you, how far you'd have to go to bring that little girl into the world.
Dixie: Yeah. All the way to Greg Madden. I turned my dream into a nightmare.
David: No, Dixie. We are going to find your daughter. I do promise you that. Because you're not me. And I will never let you be me. And the choices I made with Leora, with her mother -- the mistakes I made -- and I ended up losing them both. And the worst part was that I knew -- I knew what was best. I was more concerned with what her mother thought. So my best intentions turned out to be a death sentence for my marriage and for my daughter. I know what your loss feels like, Dixie. I know that pain, the emptiness, the loneliness. And I will not let you go through it anymore.
Dixie: David, I wasn't alone the whole time. I -- I had a relationship for almost a year. You still want to help me now?
Tad: Hayward tipped Dixie to the lead? How do you know?
Josh: Because I tipped Dr. Hayward. The Silverstones were old friends of my dad's. He mentioned once that he helped them adopt. It was a girl. Time frame sounded about right.
Tad: Could Hayward be any more useless?
Kendall: Maybe he's just obsessed with her. He found a lead and it was a way to play white knight.
Tad: Sounds familiar.
Kendall: I'm sure David didn't even bother to follow up. He just yelled "road trip" and dragged her out.
Josh: One problem -- he did follow up. I was there when he called them. And he knows damn well the Silverstones' kid isn't yours. Song: "Hot dog, life is tasting pretty good"
Greg: Answer me. Answer me! Where are you? Get me out of here! You think this is the way to get to me? Hey! You want me to drown? You'll never find out where Kate is. If I die, my secrets die with me. Where are you?
Josh: Hayward knew the Scarsdale thing was a dead end. He told me to keep him posted if I remembered anything else.
Zach: Did you remember anything else?
Josh: That I'm dying to tell you?
Kendall: If not Zach, at least Tad. She's his daughter, too.
Josh: Look, I told you what I know. Who knows? Maybe Hayward wanted to be sure. Thinks up close and in person, he'll find out something else.
Tad: Yeah. Up close and in person's exactly what he's looking for.
Josh: Hey, how are you doing? Any residual effects from the coma?
Kendall: No, I'm feeling good. Feeling like myself again.
Josh: Well, you look great.
Kendall: Thanks. Good.
Zach: Slater. I need you to find someone for me. Dixie Cooney Martin and David Hayward. Yeah, somewhere between here and Scarsdale, New York. You let me know.
Dixie: I wasn't alone when I looked for Kate. Not the whole time. There was a man. Ok, what -- what are you thinking?
David: Thank God.
Dixie: Did you hear me?
David: Yeah. Yeah, I heard you. I hated that you were going through that hell alone. So yeah, thank God you found someone. Just tell me that he treated you the way you deserve. Because if he didn't --
Dixie: What, you going to want to beat him up? Are we even having this conversation? This makes no sense.
David: Of course it does. My God, Dixie, what -- why would I want you to live a life of unending pain? I hated what you went through, what you suffered. So how do you want me to react? I mean, what? "Damn you, Dixie, for wanting to find some solace"?
Dixie: You wouldn't be the first.
David: Really? Well, then to hell with whomever had the stones to pull that. Only you were there, Dixie. Only you knew what you had to go through to get by. How dare anybody try to hold that from you, or -- or blame you for wanting to have a few moments of peace.
Dixie: Maybe people don't -- like me don't deserve peace.
David: That is definitely not true. No one deserves it more.
Amanda: Ok, I have an idea. How about I be your second-best friend? Or third? You know what? If I'm somewhere in the top 10, I'm good.
Lily: Oh, are there rules for second-best friends?
Jonathan: No. No, we can make some up.
Amanda: I have one. Second-best friends are in charge of filling celebration gaps. You guys got married and never had a wedding reception. So it's my job to make that happen. And I say we do burgers and fries, no ketchup, at BJís.
Lily: Oh, I'd like that.
Jonathan: All right. Let's go!
Erin: Jonathan, hi.
Jonathan: Hey, Erin, hi.
Jonathan: You -- hmm -- what are you doing here?
Erin: Um -- I -- you told me you were planning a picnic. I wasn't sure if you'd still be here after the rain, but -- do you have a minute?
Amanda: Uh -- Lily, why don't you wait with me in the car for your husband, and you can tell me about your wedding. I never got the details.
Jonathan: Well, I'll be there soon, ok?
Lily: Right. Well, I had a bouquet of yellow, pink, and purple flowers. And there were some people there that didn't even seem like they liked each other and wanted to get married.
Jonathan: Erin -- well, hey, hey, hey, what's going on? What, did something happen?
Erin: No. You know what? I'm a little sick of me right now. Let's do you. Um -- how are you doing? How -- how are you feeling and all that?
Jonathan: Well, Lily smiles more than ever. I mean, I -- Erin, I've never seen her happier.
Erin: That's Lily, though -- I asked about you.
Jonathan: With Lily so happy, how can I not be?
Erin: Even though you just did a -- a complete personality shift right in front of my eyes?
Jonathan: That doesn't matter. Erin, how I have to pretend to talk or think does not matter. Lily's smile -- that joy that she has -- that's it. That's all I could ever want.
J.R.: I don't worry about you sleeping with Josh. Not because you're not insanely hot. Because you are insanely hot. And because you're you, and you mean what you say.
Babe: Are you worried about Josh?
J.R.: Hitting on you? Trust me, he's never going to stop hitting on you. And I know that if he pushes you too far, you'll take away his reason for hitting on anyone. You can be pretty tough when you want to be.
Babe: Yeah, you better believe it.
J.R.: I do, I believe it. And I trust you with my entire life.
J.R.: I'll make this work.
Babe: What you said to me -- about trusting me -- it means more to me than you'll ever know.
Erin: You know, I -- I haven't seen you like this since -- I -- I don't think I've ever seen you like this.
Jonathan: No. Happy, normal, sane?
Erin: Yeah. You were wrecked for so long. First, your spirit, and then, later on, your mind. But now, you're -- the real you. You're really -- you're really happy. Oh.
Jonathan: That is so not you just being overwhelmed.
Jonathan: I know. What's going on?
Erin: Just -- me and Aidan -- we're -- we're not like -- we're not like you and Lily. We're not blissfully happy, you know. In fact, we're not actually really a "we" at all right now.
Jonathan: You and Aidan? But -- the way he looked at you -- I mean, Aidan -- Aidanís a great guy. What --
Erin: I know.
Jonathan: Hey, Erin, did he do something to you? Did he --
Erin: No, no, no, it's not like that. Aidan is -- he's a great guy. He's wonderful, really, but it's my head, you know? I just -- I really -- I need some time. And -- and if I act like preoccupied or weirded out -- it's just -- it's no big deal, ok? I don't want you to worry about me.
Jonathan: Sure. After this conversation, I'm not going to worry at all. What?
Erin: Look at me. I am fine, ok? Or I will be fine soon. All right?
Jonathan: The worst liar in the family.
Erin: Oh --
Jonathan: You always were. Now, do you want to tell me what's really going on?
Zach: That's it, huh? All right, keep looking. And when you find him, you call me.
Kendall: So, what do you think Davidís up to?
Zach: Well, like you said, the man's obsessed with Dixie.
Kendall: So he dragged her off to get her heart broken? How does that help his cause?
Zach: Gave her hope. Tried to cash in.
Kendall: Cash in? What, with thanks? Forgiveness? Sex? Drives you crazy, doesn't it?
Zach: Yes, it does.
Kendall: I'm sure Tad feels the same way. That's why he just bolted. I expected you to run out after him.
Zach: Why don't you just ask me what you want to ask me?
David: Only you were there, Dixie. Only you know what you went through. And still, they're trying to tell you what to do, what you d wrong, how to feel.
Dixie: That's ok. Most of the time, I don't hear them, anyway. It's been like that since I gave up Kate. My eyes and my ears are always waiting, listening for Kateís voice or some news of where she might be.
David: And I only made it worse.
Dixie: You haven't been so bad.
David: Oh, please. I just tried to blackmail you into loving me.
David: And not just since you've been back. Even before you left.
Dixie: That seems like so long ago.
David: Really? Huh. Not for me. You know how many nights I spent counting the million ways I screwed up with you? And then the miracle happens, and what do I do? Get right back into business. "You better give me a chance, or I'm going to tell J.R. you're alive." Certainly not one of my better moments with you, was it?
David: I am sorry. So no, I will not judge you. And no, I will not give up. And no, for once in my life, I am not asking for anything in return. Huh. I guess on that note, I should just shut up and get some rest, huh? Look, I'm -- I'm going to go back to my room, and if you need me at all, just -- hey, Dixie, I'm sorry. I am so sorry. I'm sorry.
Jonathan: Is this about me? No, let -- do I need to talk to Aidan?
Erin: No, God -- I swear to you, this isn't about you at all.
Jonathan: Ok, sure. I'm back to being me, and you're the only one that knows and can't tell anybody yet.
Erin: No --
Jonathan: That has nothing to do with you breaking --
Erin: No, I -- I'm really happy for you. I -- but I -- I just -- I don't get it. You make it work, despite the fact that --
Jonathan: That I'm -- lying?
Erin: Not telling the entire truth.
Jonathan: Hmm. So is this about me and Lily, or is this about you and Aidan? Because I don't --
Erin: No, this is about me, ok? I need to get a grip. I need to grow up.
Jonathan: Hey, hey, hey, come here. Don't do that, don't do that. Ok? After everything you've done for me? You took care of me for so long, and now it's my turn. Let me take care of you for once. You deserve to be a hell of a lot happier than I do. So if there's anything I can do, no matter what it is, you'll tell me, right?
Greg: No, not like this, please. No, please, not like this. I don't want to die like this! No. Oh -- stop.
J.R.: Let's go home to our son.
Kendall: You care about Dixie.
Zach: Yes, I do. Is that a problem?
Kendall: I don't know. Is it?
Dixie: It's ok.
David: What? No, it's not ok. Look, whatever I said, I'm just -- I'm an idiot when it comes to you.
David: Look, I try to give you hope, and instead, I'm -- all right, I'm -- I'm going to shut up, ok, before I make things worse. I'm going to go to my room, and if you need me, just --
Dixie: I did need you. And you were there.
David: You're not alone, Dixie. Don't just hear those words, feel it. You're not alone.
Dixie: Thank you. Hmm.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Kendall: This is every fiber of my being fighting what everything inside me is dying to do.
Zach: Which is what?
Kendall: Make you swear you will never see Dixie again.
Dixie: I know what you're doing.
