All My Children Transcript Thursday 6/15/06

Erin: God, Jonathan. You can't keep this from Lily. You're you, you're you. You're -- you're the Jonathan who went to Princeton. I mean, your future can be anything you want it to be. You can't -- can't give that up.
Jonathan: Yeah, I can, and I will -- for Lily.
Lily: Jonathan's the best husband. He has a formula for me not to be afraid of noise. He has plans for us. He has a schedule for our whole life. Jonathan -- he's X.
Aidan: Excuse me? He's what?
Lily: Well, there are lots of variables in equations, but X is always X no matter what happens. Things can be added and subtracted and multiplied and divided, but X is X, and Jonathanís my X.
Aidan: Lily, I get it. You're head over heels in love with Jonathan.
Babe: It's weird to be here, and this is what I wanted. You not in prison, free to be a part of Little Aís life. But you and me -- I don't have a clue what comes next.
J.R.: It's up to you. Whatever you want, Babe.
Babe: The only thing I know for sure, there's no way we can just pick up where we left off. Not after what you did.
Kendall: No matter how hard you beat up on that poor pillow, Bianca will not walk through that door.
Erica: Every time they leave us again, my heart breaks. And, I mean, I know that she's happy with Maggie and her life there, but still --
Kendall: Mom, Mom, I miss her, too. Now, did you mean what you said about us straightening things up?
Erica: We are definitely going to deal with everyone who has hurt you.
Kendall: Including Greg Madden?
Erica: Greg? Well, Greg Madden is -- is a monster, but what I am most concerned with now is what J.R. and Babe did to you.
Kendall: What did Greg do to you, Mother?
Josh: It's good to meet another Dr. Martin.
Jeff: Dad told me about the Mardi Gras Ball -- you saved Ericaís life.
Josh: You've been bragging on me?
Joe: He's a fine doctor, Jeff. And he never should've left the medical profession.
Jeff: Took some time off medicine? What brought you back?
Josh: Well, I found out what I don't want to do. Returning to this was a natural choice. It's in the blood, I guess -- my dad's a doctor.
Jeff: I know.
Disguised voice: Tell me where Dixie Martinís daughter is, you're a free man.
Greg: You go first. Who are you? Who is this?
Disguised voice: That's entirely up to you, Dr. Madden. I'm either the angel who gives you a second chance at life, or I'm the devil, here to carry out your execution.
Erica: Greg terminated my pregnancy years ago. You know that.
Kendall: There's something more.
Erica: Well, he tried to get you to -- to give up Spike. Let's go to the nursery, let's come up with a better name.
Kendall: Ok, Mother, Spike is being examined, we have to wait. And don't change the subject. Bianca and I both agree.
Erica: Bianca and you? You talked about this?
Kendall: Well, we covered a lot more than burping techniques before she left. Now, what is it with you and Greg, and what does Josh have to do with it?
Erica: Josh? Nothing.
Kendall: No, Bianca said that she saw you going off on him. Why?
Erica: You know what my former producer did to me.
Kendall: Huh. Yes, and you somehow seemed to get past that. There is something more that you're not telling me, Mother.
Erica: Sweetheart, you have a precious baby boy, and you're safe from Greg Madden and so am I. Let's let the past stay buried.
Disguised voice: I could be a woman or a man. I could be anyone whose life you messed with -- even your own son. Oh, that's right -- he's not really your son. He's Erica Kaneís. You stole him.
Greg: I saved Josh's life. It was one of the greatest things that I've ever done. If you don't understand that, then you don't understand what being a parent is about.
Disguised voice: Don't even try it.
Greg: It is you, Tad. Are you going to talk about Kate again? You don't deserve to be a parent. No Martin deserves to be a parent. Dixie went to another continent to have her child in peace, and then she gave your daughter away. What about your brother Jeff? He was so self-involved, he didn't know that Erica was pregnant. I saved Josh's life. Whatever you think about me, I gave him life.
Josh: So where's your practice?
Jeff: I've been working in Africa.
Joe: Jeff headed up the global aid project. Yeah, the group of doctors who donate their services to third-world countries.
Josh: So what brings you back to Pine Valley? Your family?
Jeff: Well, that, and years in the bush have renewed my appreciation for things that I used to take for granted.
Joe: Actually, he came back to conduct an advanced training seminar.
Jeff: The world is shrinking. Third-world medical problems aren't confined to the third world anymore.
Josh: Wow. Where do I sign up?
Joe: It's going to be limited to a select group of interns. I've already submitted your name.
Josh: Well, thank you. That would be great.
Jeff: Oh, you say that now, but the workload and the range of topics are -- I expect the best from the best, 110% or nothing. Think you're up for it?
Josh: Well, I clock 110% every day. I can make you proud.
Jonathan: I am the only constant in Lilyís life, and she's not living scared. She's more confident, because she thinks that she has me as an equal.
Erin: Well, just -- just because you're healed, that doesn't change the giant steps that Lilyís taken.
Jonathan: It changes everything. You don't understand Lilyís world. It's like -- it's like having your head packed into cotton.
Erin: Yeah --
Jonathan: Even massive -- simple, simple tasks take massive effort, like going to the store, meeting a stranger.
Erin: I get that.
Jonathan: You don't. You don't get it, because you haven't lived it. I have. I couldn't open a ketchup packet. I forgot how to use a pen, a -- a bathroom key. I couldn't make myself understood, and people treated me horribly, like I was stupid. Now, that's the world that Lily lives in, where a color, a noise can make her whole world unbearable. Erin, she can't be touched. She can't touch. You know how lonely that life is?
Erin: Oh, but now -- now you're normal. You can take even better care of her.
Jonathan: She's been taken care of all of her life -- someone telling her what she can and can't do, someone solving her problems for her. I'm Lilyís partner. That's the magic. I mean, we -- she took care of me because we were equals. She's never had that before, and I won't take it away from her.
Lily: You know, I'm glad you're not my boyfriend.
Aidan: Oh, really? You are?
Lily: Well, I was upset when I learned that you couldn't be, because I thought you were a good boyfriend. But I was wrong. Jonathan is the perfect boyfriend for me -- I mean husband. And Erinís a much better girlfriend for you, anyway.
Aidan: Well, it looks like things worked out for the both of us, then, huh? You know, some people call that destiny.
Lily: Well, destiny is one of those tricky concepts for me to understand.
Aidan: Ok, say you and I were boyfriend and girlfriend. Well, then Jonathan and you wouldn't have gotten to know each other as well as you do, so you and I didn't work for a reason. Does that make sense?
Lily: Jonathan's my destiny.
J.R.: I want to start over.
Babe: It's kind of hard to forget that you wanted me dead.
J.R.: I never said it would be easy. You've seen the worst in me. Let me show you the good.
Babe: There's a lot of good in you, J.R., but we've been here a lot. You swear it'll never happen again, and it does.
J.R.: I can't swear to you that it'll never happen again. I can show you that it'll never happen again. Let me prove to you that I'm not that man anymore. I love you, and I love Little Adam, and I don't want to lose either one of you.
Babe: I'd love to believe that.
J.R.: Every time that I've made you cry or made you scared or let you down, I'm going to make it up a thousand times over. I can't erase all the times that I've screwed up, but what I can do is try to give you and Little Adam a lifetime of good memories.
Babe: Sounds real nice.
J.R.: I don't know where to start. I don't know how to begin. Look, you have stood by me at my lowest. Stand by me now. Help me. Help me find us again.
Babe: Take them. The Chandler stock, your will, the power of attorney, the custody agreement -- they're all there.
J.R.: Why are you doing this?
Babe: If we are going to do this, we are going to start fresh -- you, me, Little Adam. No doubts, no suspicions, no what ifs, no contingencies, and no just in cases.
J.R.: Keep them.
Babe: I don't want them.
J.R.: Put them in your safe-deposit box. It's the only thing that will keep you and Little Adam safe. You need to know that you were right.
Babe: J.R., I don't want to forget everything about our past. Our wedding on Little Adamís birthday, you, me, and Little A on that beach building sandcastles, our trip to France. You told me what that meant to you, but it meant even more to me, and when you drew me -- there were no words, no worries. We just -- we just were. It was -- it was like a dream -- no, it was better than a dream, it was real, and I want to make more of those moments, J.R.
J.R.: And I want to give them to you.
Babe: Let's go for a walk.
Babe: Why not? It's a beautiful night. The sky's full of stars. Who knows, maybe we can still catch the concert in the park. And maybe we can find a piece of what we had then. If we can find that, then we'll have a place to start.
Kendall: You threaten the man's life and then you act as if he's no big deal.
Erica: I'm only looking forward, and Greg Madden is nowhere in our future. Are you looking for me to say "I told you so"? Do you want me to gloat over the fact that I was right to warn you away from him?
Kendall: Well, if you'll give me the real reason to why you warned me off of Greg, knock yourself out.
Erica: How about a more pleasant "I told you so"? I told you you'd fall in love with your baby.
Kendall: True. You can thank Zach for that.
Erica: I'd rather not.
Kendall: Look, if he hadn't kidnapped me and given me time to realize that I was madly in love with Spike --
Erica: You would have realized that all on your own.
Kendall: I couldn't have saved Spike on my own. That was all Zach.
Erica: Zach risked your life.
Kendall: Yeah, but it's not because he wanted to. He did it because he thought that's what I wanted. Mother, Zach listens to me, he understands me, he -- he accepts me. I have never felt so loved or so wanted or so safe. I really want you to accept him as my husband.
Erica: Would you like some more water? Are you hungry? I can call, I can have something delivered.
Kendall: No, I want Zach. Where is he? He said he'd be here.
Greg: Is that you, Slater? Strong, silent type. Sick, twisted mind, morals of a jackal. You play the knight when it suits your purpose. You married Kendall. What is this with Dixie? Redemption? Reunite the mother with the child and take away some of your own guilt about your own dead son? Pathetic.
Disguised voice: Where is Dixie Martinís child? Why are you being so stubborn? Say the word, and you'll be free.
Greg: Do you think I'm stupid? If I tell you now where that child is, I'm as good as dead.
Disguised voice: But if you don't tell me, you're very definitely dead.
Erin: It's not just going to be about when you're around Lily. This is going to be 24/7. This is going to be when you're around family, friends, strangers. You cannot let your guard down, you can't get caught. Although, something this huge, it's not even a matter of if you get caught, Jonathan, it's just -- it's when.
Jonathan: Not necessarily. I'm going to take the chance.
Erin: If you play this out, you can't go back to programming computers. And, I'm sorry, that -- that's a half life. You need more than that.
Jonathan: All I need is the smile on Lilyís face.
Lily: So, is Erin your destiny, just like Jonathan is mine?
Aidan: Um -- we haven't figured that out yet.
Lily: Well, it took me a little while to figure out that I love Jonathan, but now I love him very much.
Aidan: Erin and I would be very, very lucky to find the kind of love that you and Jonathan have.
Lily: Jonathan told me he needs me. No one's ever needed me before.
[Classical music plays]
Babe: It's so peaceful. Wouldn't it be nice if things were always like this?
J.R.: We'll find that peace, Babe.
Babe: You know, a lot of people are going to want to see us crash and burn, and the harder that we try to make this work, the more they're going to want to see us in ashes.
J.R.: Because you stood by me, made some enemies. I'm sorry about that.
Babe: Like I wasn't already on half of Pine Valleyís hit lists. Please, I don't care what they think of me or you. I just want to make sure we're safe from what they say or do.
J.R.: My days of listening to what other people think are long gone. It's just you and me and Little Adam and nothing else matters.
Babe: What are you thinking about?
J.R.: How lucky I am to have another chance with my family. It's really not like that, though, is it? Not for everyone, not if everyone doesn't have the chance.
J.R.: I can't forget about her.
Babe: How could you? Not when your sister is out there somewhere. Look, it -- it may take some time. But as hard as everyone's working, we will bring her home.
J.R.: Jamie stepped up. He's committed to finding her. He and I, we -- look, whatever it takes, we're going to make sure Madden tells us where Kate is.
Disguised voice: Again, all I want is information, not a corpse.
Greg: If I die, you'll have to follow me to hell to get your answer, because that child will never be found.
Kendall: Greg Maddenís insane.
Erica: That subject was closed.
Kendall: No, no, I -- I remember. I remember when I was in the coma. I remember his voice, and yours, and he was -- he was vile, he was disgusting. He -- he slammed on you and me, and he kept -- he kept insisting that he was the only one who should decide Spike's future. And he said that I didn't rate as mommy material, and -- and neither did you.
Erica: You remember all that? And anything else?
Kendall: Just that he was an absolute creep, he was gross. And you -- you were -- you were amazing. You were -- you were fierce. Do you know how much I love you? Mother, you have been by my side the entire time I've been through this. You put your entire life on hold to get me through all this.
Erica: Honey, you did most of the work.
Kendall: Well, I just want you to know that I'm back, and I am ready for anything. If you need help with anything, I'm here.
Erica: I love you so, so much. And there is absolutely nothing for you to worry about, nothing at all -- except getting some rest. Because rumor has it that you are going to be released tomorrow.
Kendall: Let's hope.
Josh: After medical school, I took a pass on the whole doctor thing. I made some radical wrong turns, but I realized this is what I really want to do.
Jeff: So you're -- you're just not in it for the groupies or the cushy hours?
Josh: Well, I wouldn't just say this, but it really does feel good to be saving lives, to be helping people.
Jeff: I'm impressed.
Joe: Josh has come a long way, and he has great potential. Now, do you want to tell him or should I?
Jeff: Erica. Oh, my goodness, look at you -- more beautiful than ever.
Erica: I didn't know that you were in town.
Jeff: Josh, did you know that Erica was my first wife?
Josh: Yeah, I've heard.
Joe: Hmm. Erica, you're just in time. Jeff was about to tell Josh --
Erica: Just like that? Without consulting me?
Jeff: Brilliant as you are, Erica, medicine is not your field. Josh, you impress the hell out of me. I'd like you to be in my seminar.
Josh: Well, I can't wait to get started.
Erica: So you're staying in town?
Jeff: For a while.
Jeff: We have so much catching up to do.
Joe: Mm-hmm. Well, you know, why don't we let these two get reacquainted. You and I have got work to do.
Josh: Dr. Martin, it was a pleasure meeting you.
Josh: Thanks for choosing me. I won't let you down.
Jeff: Well, you haven't so far.
Erica: Well, Joe might've told me that you were finally coming. Why are you here?
Jeff: Why do you think? I get a call out of nowhere, a son. I had to see him.
Erica: But you didn't tell him anything?
Jeff: No, not yet. But he really is something, though, isn't he?
Erica: Yeah, he's really something, all right.
Jeff: Oh. Am I to assume that you're against telling him?
Erica: Jeff, you can't be selfish in this. Josh is not part of our lives, he has his own life, and if you were to just blurt out the truth, that -- that could turn his world upside down.
Jeff: Erica, Josh may not be part of your life, but he could be part of mine.
[Knock on door]
Simone: Knock, knock. Hi.
Danielle: How's the new mommy?
Simone: Oh ok, where is the Spike-man? What a name.
Danielle: I have dibs on babysitting.
Simone: I've got to see him.
Simone: What? Oh, please don't tell me there's something wrong? Kendall, he's ok, right?
Kendall: I came so close to losing him.
Simone: Oh. But he's here. He's here, Kendall, and he's going to be just fine, and he's going to be so styling. Open mine first.
Kendall: He almost died. I can't -- I can't get that out of my head, I can't stop thinking about that. Every time I look at his sweet face, and he takes these little, tiny breaths -- and Babe and J.R. are breathing free.
[Classical music plays]
Babe: You gave me a real scare the night Greg Madden went missing.
J.R.: My days of scaring you are over.
Babe: It was the look in your eyes. You thought you were going to prison, and you had nothing to lose.
J.R.: As good as it would've felt to beat the crud out of Madden, make him scream, I need answers. I want my sister back home where she belongs, and so does Jamie.
Babe: So Madden won't end up in our pool wearing cement shoes?
J.R.: He's not going to get away with it. We definitely need him alive. Jamie's working on it right now. Sooner or later, Maddenís going to tell us where she is, one way or another.
Babe: My fingers are crossed for "sooner."
J.R.: You cold?
Babe: Thank you.
J.R.: You want to go down to the boathouse? We'll listen to the rest of the concert from there.
Babe: I'd like that.
Disguised voice: You're wasting time, Doctor. Where is Kate Martin? You want to play it this way? Fine. Notice anything different? I've just cut off your air supply. If you have any last words, now would be a good time to say them.
Jonathan: I'm smart enough to pull off being slow.
Erin: You're brilliant, Jonathan. You can't just give that up.
Jonathan: I was an evil SOB.
Erin: That wasn't even you, that was the tumor --
Jonathan: I was manipulative, I was violent. I hit women, Erin. I didn't know how to love or be loved. I was -- I was lost, I was totally lost. You're the only one that didn't give up on me.
Erin: I was just as lost as you were, but you know what? We came out of this thing the other side. And I think it's great that you love Lily, I do, but it can't be like this. No. You're giving up -- you're giving up too much.
Jonathan: Lily taught me how to love. Through her is how I learned it. Now, that's a hell of a lot more important than being able to rattle off computer code.
Erin: If Lily loves you, then she can accept you. There are so many worse things than discovering that you're back to full capacity. Let's -- let's talk to Ryan about this.
Jonathan: No. Erin, no. No one can know. Not Lily, not Ryan, not Aidan -- no one. If you love me, you'll let me be who I need to be. Erin, promise me. Promise me that you won't tell my secret. Hey, please -- please, Erin. You have to swear to me that you're not going to tell anyone.
Erin: Jonathan, I -- I get why you want to do this, I understand it, I get it. And I think that you and Lily deserve all the happiness that you can possibly grab. But a secret like this --
Jonathan: You saved my life once. You hid me away. You kept me sane. I'm only here because of you. I need you to keep my secret again, only this time -- this time it's for love.
Lily: Don't worry, Jonathan. I've already looked over the bill, and we can definitely budget it in. Jonathan needs me to handle all of our finances.
Aidan: Hey, Lily, give me some of that stuff. I can help you with it.
Erin: Who am I to tell you how to love?
Jonathan: Thank you. I'm -- I'm feeling a lot better now, Lily. I'm -- I'm ready to go home.
Aidan: Jonathan, we'll be right outside, ok?
Aidan: You know, I never thought I'd say this in a million years, but those two are perfect for each other.
Erica: Jeff, you can't tell Josh the truth.
Jeff: Erica, I have a child. He's smart, good-looking, takes after the both of us.
Erica: Will you please be serious? There are lives involved here, not just your ego.
Jeff: Erica, Josh thinks his mother is dead, his -- his father is slime.
Erica: And -- and Josh is surviving just fine.
Jeff: Yes, but he could do so much better. Finding out that we're his parents could be the best thing that ever happened to him.
Erica: You're impossible.
Jeff: No --
Erica: This can't happen.
Jeff: No, no, no, as I recall, you're the one who's impossible. I'm the one with the good bedside manner.
Erica: How can you take this so lightly?
Jeff: I'm not. But we don't have to decide anything just this second. Look, why don't -- why don't you let me take you out to dinner, and we'll talk about this and catch up on some old times.
Erica: I don't want to talk about old times.
Jeff: Oh, well, you're going to have to, because our "old times" has grown up and is practicing medicine.
Erica: Jeff, please. This is the best decision for everybody. Please, just respect my wishes. Go on with your life as if nothing ever happened. Really, go -- go wherever you came from. Just leave Josh alone, leave me alone, leave us all alone.
Greg: Focus, in, out. In, out. In -- aah! Let me out! Let me out. Let me out!
Disguised voice: Not ready to go to the light?
Greg: I -- I ca -- can't breathe.
Disguised voice: All right. Have it your way.
[Air valve hisses]
Disguised voice: Better?
Greg: You bastard.
Disguised voice: I'm going to give you some alone time to think about what it's like to look death dead in the eye.
Jeff: You want me to go back to Africa?
Erica: The sooner the better.
Jeff: You haven't changed a bit.
Erica: And you are just as stubborn as ever.
Jeff: Maybe. But I've come to realize the importance of things that I used to take for granted.
Erica: Well, you have a family. You have a big family. Go home, Jeff. I'm sure that Ruth has baked a famous Martin coffeecake for you.
Jeff: Erica, I have a son. And no one can convince me to forget about him as if he'd -- as if he never happened.
Erica: So you're just going to blow up his life just because you think you want to be a father?
Jeff: No, I don't know what I'm going to do yet. But I'm sure as hell not leaving tomorrow -- or the day after, or the day after that.
Erica: You just want to torture me.
Jeff: No, I donít. I want to get to know my son. Whether or not he ever finds out I'm his father, I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see how it happens. But there's one thing I can guaran-damn-tee you. It will not be decided by you. By the way, you really do look spectacular.
[Classical music plays]
J.R.: What about France made it so special for you? I want to know, because I'd like to do it again.
Babe: You were just -- you. You were open and -- and honest, no front, no defenses. I felt loved and safe, and like it was possible to feel that way forever.
J.R.: It is possible, Babe. I want to make it happen. I want it more than anything.
Jamie: Just the man I wanted to see.
J.R.: It's not really the best time right now, James.
Jamie: I wouldn't have come if it's not important.
Jamie: I've -- um -- sort of hit a stubborn wall. Break through or climb over?
J.R.: Can you give me a minute?
J.R.: All right.
Kendall: Babe Chandler every single day. How can I stand to look at her face? And not just anywhere, at Fusion -- my company, my creation. 9:00 to 5:00, I'm going to have Babe Chandler stuck in my face.
Danielle: We could always relocate her -- to the roof.
Kendall: I mean, every time I -- I see her, I hear her annoying voice, I'll be reminded that I almost lost my son. And yes, I know it's J.R.ís fault, but Babe is just as much to blame.
Simone: She did make an effort -- at the court, you know, about whether to take the baby early or not. She was on your side. She testified how much you wanted the baby.
Kendall: No, the real Babe, the Babe that I know, is the one that got J.R. off, the one who stole my niece. I -- I want her out of Fusion.
Danielle: Money talks.
Kendall: Well, Zach tried that. If Fusionís going to have a future, and if we're going to have a future, it has got to be without Babe. So, are we together on this?
Simone: All for one.
Kendall: And none for Babe.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Jeff (to Erica): I've been living a totally fulfilled life without ever, ever even thinking of you.
Tad (to Di): You do not have badmouthing rights to Dixie, not in this office.
Di (to Tad): Have you forgiven her?
Kendall (to Zach): I have got to get rid of Babe before I kill her, and I need you to take care of J.R.
