Babe: J.R.? Winifred, have you seen J.R.? I can't find him anywhere, and I've called --

Dixie: Good morning.

Winifred: Um -- Mrs. -- Miss -- she's here.

Dixie: J.R.ís not here? Where did he go? Where is he?

Babe: He's probably out trying to find someone he can trust.

J.R.: You got a visitor.

Janet: I get any more popular, people are going to have to take numbers and get in a line. You. Never expected to see you again.

J.R.: Just couldn't stay away, Janet.

Janet: You weren't very happy with me the last time.

J.R.: I found out that mother knows best. Except for my mom.

Janet: You finally saw Dixie?

J.R.: She's alive and living it up. I should give you more credit, Janet. You might be a wack job, but it doesn't mean that you're wrong.

Janet: I've been wrong about a lot of things.

J.R.: Dead on about my mother. What about Babe?

Janet: What about her?

J.R.: I want you to tell me everything that Babe said to you. About me my son.

Erica: Oh, Ryan. I don't know whether to be relieved or not.

Ryan: No sign of the doctor?

Erica: No, it's almost 10:00 and not a word from Greg. How will I do this? How can I? How can I show this to Josh? My DNA and his DNA. Not a drop of Greg's. How do I tell Josh that he was an experiment, the product of some massively twisted ego who he thinks is his father? Ryan, please tell me that you've found Kendall. Please tell me that I don't have to ruin my son to save my daughter.

Greg: Kendall? Damn it. Where can she be?

Kendall: Ok, for the gazillionth time, do you want to hear it again? I know what I'm doing. Giving up this baby, right decision. Being here with you, wrong decision.

Zach: You haven't touched your breakfast.

Kendall: All right, you said you wanted me to take some time to be alone and think things through. Well, first of all, I'm not alone, and second, I've thought things through. Your little plan to sneak me out of Greg's spa retreat -- over.

Zach: The eggs Benedict are great.

Kendall: Wonderful. I'm happy for you. Enjoy them. Eat them and enjoy them all the way home. And when you get there, tell everyone I'm fine, I couldn't be better. This is a Pine Valley-free zone. No Ryan, no Erica, and pretty soon, no you. Nothing to say? Ok, well Ė good-bye. Please, can you just --

[Boat starts]

Kendall: We're moving! Are -- are you kidding me? What -- what in the hell are you doing, Zach? What, are you -- you kidnapping me?

Zach: Yep.

Kendall: You promised we could go back.

Zach: I promised to take you back once we talk it over. We haven't done that yet.

Kendall: I'm sorry, there's no deal. Now turn this tub around.

Zach: You agreed to get away from Madden and get some air on your decision.

Kendall: Not this much air.

Zach: You going to eat that?

Kendall: No, Zach. This is -- this is nuts. This is crazy. All of my things are back on the island.

Zach: No, I had them packed.

Kendall: You what? Are you kidding me? You cannot do anything in a straight line, can you? You can't -- you can't trick me. Ship to shore, now. Go, right now, or I'm going to start breaking everything in sight.

Zach: Actually, it's a boat, not a ship. And I had it stocked for a week. And after that week, if you want to go back to freak island, I'll take you there.

Kendall: You can't hold me hostage for a week. My God, you're exactly like Ryan and my mother. You're all about control.

Zach: I'm just enjoying my breakfast.

Kendall: Great! Here, on my mother and Jack's ship? You said neutral ground. What happened to neutral ground?

Zach: I am neutral. I have no stake in this baby.

Kendall: Don't play Switzerland here. My mother is somewhere. Where is she? Is she hiding? Is she out on the galley somewhere? Is she ready to pop out and hit me over the head with some her mother love?

Zach: She has no idea I'm here.

Kendall: That's impossible.

Zach: I stole the boat.

Kendall: You what?

Zach: Stole it.

Kendall: Oh. Well, so? So? You're still all about control. What are you -- what are you going to do? You going to try to indulge me with -- with butter and lobster and get me to crack?

Zach: No. I don't want you to crack. I want you to enjoy yourself. And Madden is the one that's all about control. He brings you to an island so he can work on you.

Kendall: It's spa for pregnant women. There's no mind melding with the mud masks or no brainwashing with the body wraps. It's just women that are in the same situation as me, but worse. It's actually really refreshing to have people who understand my decision.

Zach: If it's your decision. And how do you know? You're surrounded by some Madden groupies.

Kendall: This is not the island of zombie pregnant women.

Zach: All right, I'll tell you what. Why don't we make this the island of Kendall? Huh? You're queen. There's no -- no pressure. No. Just have fun.

Kendall: You don't get it, do you? Being here with you is the biggest pressure of all.

Greg: Search every inch of the property, including the motor pool. Miss Hart can't have gone far.

Man: Dr. Madden, a gardener saw Miss Hart board a large motor yacht at dawn. It's already cleared the harbor.

Greg: Did they catch the name of the boat? Did they see anybody else on it?

Man: No one saw a name. There was a man, but he was too far away to get a description.

Greg: Blast. I have to get back to Pine Valley.

Ryan: I'm sorry, Erica, but every lead comes to absolutely nowhere. It's like Madden's made Kendall disappear.

Erica: Well, then as I promised, I will bring that maniac Greg Madden down. I will reduce him to dirt. The world will see him for what he really is -- a criminal, not a healer.

Ryan: Look, I am all for making the guy accountable. I -- I really am, Erica. It's just -- if you drop that bomb, it might bring you down, too. I mean, he's going to fight like hell. Madden is going to fight. He's going to try to take you with him, and are you ready for that?

Erica: I have got to get Kendall away from that Dr. Madden before she delivers the baby, he and yours. And I will do anything to protect my daughter and your baby.

Ryan: Obviously, that's what I want, too, Erica. It's just that I -- have you thought about Kendall going ballistic when she finds out that you haven't been straight with her about something like this? And Jack -- what's he going to do when he finds out?

Erica: I don't know. I'm going to have to figure that out later. If I don't do this now, then -- then Kendall could give birth to your baby -- hers and yours -- and that's a baby that we may never see.

Ryan: It's just that you're putting your career and your marriage on the line.

Erica: I know. I know what I'm risking. And I know that Josh is going to be completely devastated. And I wish to God that he never had to know. But this is the only way I've got to stop Greg Madden. It's the only way I can stop him from ever victimizing another woman.

Ryan: Maybe we should just take some more time.

Erica: No. If I lose my nerve, then I lose too much. I lose my daughter. I lose my self-respect. Will you find Josh for me, Ryan? Bring him here to me?

J.R.: You sent me text messages, you called me nonstop about Babe -- how I couldn't trust her, what she was up to, and I want to know why.

Janet: Well, I'm sorry, but I -- I can't talk about Babe -- not to you, anyway.

J.R.: Why not?

Janet: She asked me not to.

J.R.: When?

Janet: It was after you were here. She was much nicer than you.

J.R.: What did she say?

Janet: Well, she asked, nicely, for me to keep my lips buttoned. At least the part about you. Ugh -- I guess she -- she doesn't want me to mess it up for her.

J.R.: What is she so afraid that you're going to tell me.

Janet: The truth.

Babe: You have no idea how scared I am for J.R. right now. Alcohol is like poison to him. He came back from seeing you. He'd been drinking.

Dixie: I tried to stop him, ok?

Babe: What, like you tried to come back for the last four years? You know, just to fill you in -- J.R. and trust -- they aren't exactly a natural fit. It has been like climbing a mountain with him -- two steps forward, one step back -- to get him to believe in this family future. But he was happy, Dixie. Really, genuinely happy. He was using words like "forever." And he meant them. And now -- now he's barely even hanging on.

Dixie: That's why I'm here. I want to make J.R. understand.

Babe: But I don't even understand. How does a mama walk away from her child? I can't even imagine anything more important in this world than Little Adam. You know, maybe you have your reasons. Maybe you told J.R. -- I don't know. He would barely even talk about it. I want this to work out, and I do want to help, but you have to help me understand what was so huge that could keep you away from your own son. What was so important that you let him suffer all these years?

Dixie: Babe, I am here to see J.R., not to explain myself to you.

Jamie: Well, explain yourself to me.

Josh: All right, so -- what are you doing in my dad's office?

Erica: I'm waiting for him. He's late.

Josh: Is that what this summons is about? I'll tell him.

Erica: No, Josh, it's you I need to speak to.

Josh: Erica, I'm busy. I'm a doctor. I have patients to see. They're sick. They need me, you don't.

Ryan: Hey, man, how about losing the attitude?

Erica: Thank you, Ryan. Thank you very much. But this is something I really need to do alone.

Ryan: I'll be outside.

Josh: What's with the mystery?

Erica: Your father has taken Kendall someplace.

Josh: Are you kidding me?

Erica: No, Josh, sit down.

Erica: Your father has isolated Kendall from the people who love her in order to convince her to give up the baby. Years ago, he did something much worse to me. I couldn't stop him then, but I can now. I warned your father that if he didn't bring Kendall back to me by 10:00 -- look we can do this the easy way, or we can do it the hard way. Josh, tell me where Kendall is.

Josh: What's the hard way?

Dixie: Jamie, I never wanted it to happen like this. I never wanted you --

Jamie: Well, I got to tell you, Dixie, you shouldn't go drinking in public places if you don't want to be found.

Dixie: That's fair enough. Ok? But I wanted to come back a long time ago, and things happened, and whether I wanted it or not, I had a life away from here and away from all of you.

Jamie: So what you're saying is you forgot about us. Just popped back in because you were in the mood.

Dixie: That's not true. I never forgot.

Jamie: Yeah, well, neither did J.R. Not about the cookies you made, not about the sleepovers, the camp outs, the rainy-day games. The promises you made, to both of us. I have a mom who doesn't lie to me. I'll get over what you've done. But you all J.R. had. Speaking of which -- I came to see him, not you. Babe, where is he?

Babe: I don't know.

J.R.: I'm here because you're the only one who has the guts to give it to me straight.

Janet: Well, it's probably just the medication.

J.R.: You're a good mom. Does it make sense to you that a mother would make her own son believe that she was dead?

Janet: I would never, ever let Amanda think that I was anything but right there at her side, rooting her on. I -- I think Dixie must have had a very good reason for staying away.

J.R.: For lying? Maybe Babe's different. You know, she might have her secrets. We all have our secrets. She's lied to about some big things, but -- but we got past that. We survived those things. If there's anyone -- anyone out there that I can trust, it's Babe. Right?

Janet: J.R., I think you need to know everything.

Zach: I'm going to go up top. Why don't you finish what's left of your breakfast? I'm going to make a phone call.

Kendall: Wait, who are you calling?

Zach: You tell me.

Kendall: Maybe I should just throw your cell over the ship.

Zach: Erica or Ryan. It's up to you.

Kendall: Neither. I don't want them to know where I am.

Zach: You disappeared. You left a phony note for your doctor. You really want them to worry like that?

Kendall: See? You always have to play the hero.

Zach: Me? I'm never the hero. You know that by now. So what do we do? Do you call them or will I? But they have to know that you're ok. Otherwise, God knows what they're going to do.

Josh: You are ridiculous, Erica. You keep waving this supposed big secret in front of my dad's face. He doesn't buy it, so you turn the threats on me. Well, forget it. Whatever your beef is with my dad, he's had Kendallís consent from the beginning. You can't tank him, you can't ruin his career --

Erica: Yes, I can. The hard part is that if I ruin him, I also destroy you.

Janet: I see that you're still married. So that plan's on track.

J.R.: The plan to stay married just long enough to where she gets dirt on me, divorces me, and gets full custody of Little Adam? That plan?

Janet: Yeah. Well, you know, the story isn't going to change, because it's true. I spent a lot of quality time with Babe up there. You know? Especially after I would not let her kidnap your little boy right then and there. You know, she wanted to kidnap him for real, and that's when she explained to me about the web that she was weaving about how she was going to woo you and then marry you and then dump you, and then just run off with your son. Now, you have to remember, there was no TV, there was no radio. I listened to Babe for hours. I am really sorry, J.R., but she just never wanted you. She really only wanted your son. You -- you're not going to, like, kill the messenger or anything here, are you?

J.R.: Well, according to Babe, she only said that stuff to throw you off, so she'd get out of there alive.

Janet: Well, if you believe her, why are you here? Proceed with caution, J.R. If your own mother can betray you, why wouldn't Babe?

Babe: He was gone when I woke up, and he's not at the office, and he's not answering his cell phone.

Jamie: Well, J.R. finally had it together, and you ripped him apart.

Dixie: I will do anything that I can to make it right.

Jamie: What are you going to do? Bake him some cookies? Make it all go away? You dumped us, remember? Didn't give a crap about coming back. You know, every time I want to think about it, I want to puke.

Dixie: You don't understand the position that I'm in.

Jamie: Oh, you know what? Well, please explain, because I'd love to hear it. You must have a whopper of a reason.

Babe: We're all dying to hear.

Dixie: I wish I could give you an answer.

Jamie: Why is telling the truth so hard? J.R., Dad -- we all loved you. We're on your side. We're you family. So what is so complicated, so horrible that you couldn't come to us? Is that your answer? Because it's bull. Of all people, I never expected you to treat us like this.

Dixie: Well, James, I never expected you to sleep with your brother's wife.

Josh: I'm still on the loose, Erica. You can't touch me.

Erica: I don't want to hurt you, Josh. Please try to believe that. But I can prove that your father is an immoral, unethical man who must be stopped.

Josh: What, did he sleep with you when you were his patient? You're bitter, and you want to bite back? Well, it's your word against his. There's no proof. So, if all this shock and awe is over, I have patients I need to tend to.

Erica: Josh, you need to hear this.

Josh: Your gorilla on the other side of the door going to pounce on me? All right. Lay it on me.

Erica: There was never any affair. When I went to your father all those years ago, I had made the most difficult decision of my life. Believe me, there was nothing cavalier about it. Really, I had agonized over it. I entrusted myself completely -- body and soul -- to your father. He took advantage of me. And what he did to me that day could ruin him if it were made public. And the pain that it would cause you --

Josh: What are you saying, Erica? My dad terminated your pregnancy against your will? Is that what you're claiming? What did -- what did he do? Knock you over the head and abort the fetus before you knew it? If you have guilt for the choices that you made, don't blame them on my father.

Erica: No, I have no guilt. I made the right choice -- the only choice that I could make at that time. But there were consequences.

Josh: What were the consequences?

Erica: Perhaps the kindest way is for me to just say it.

Zach: Captain says it's calm seas from now on. So why don't you go upstairs and find a good book?

Kendall: With you staring at me, trying to figure out new ways to make me crazy? I'd rather walk the plank.

Zach: All right, I won't stare at you. Well, you don't have to talk if you don't want to. I just -- I want for you what it is that you want, you know? It's your decision. No one else's.

Kendall: I've made my decision.

Zach: With your heart?

Kendall: What do you know about my heart?

Zach: Well, I don't know. Just -- I think maybe you're laying there at night, imagining what it would be like to hold the little boy. You'd look into his eyes, and then just give him up to somebody else. So why don't you look at me and tell me that the decision you made with Madden was the right one?

Kendall: See, that, Zach -- right there -- that is pressure. My mother, Ryan, I can take, but you -- this -- this is the worst possible pressure.

Zach: It's not -- no, no pressure. I just -- I want you to have a good time, you know? Get -- get some sun, relax.

Kendall: The way you pour my tea, and the way that you touch me, and your eyes -- that -- that thing -- You're doing it right now. That -- that thing that you do -- you look at me as if you --

Zach: As if what? As if I still love you? I do still love you. I always will.

Erica: Josh, please know that I'm only telling you this, because I'm out of options. But your father -- you have to know --

Ryan: I'm sorry to interrupt, but I know that you'd want to hear this right away. Kendall is safe.

Erica: Oh -- oh! Oh, thank God. Thank God. Where? Where is she?

Ryan: Well, she just needed to get away -- to -- to think a little bit.

Erica: But -- but where? Where is she?

Josh: Can -- can we get back to this big reveal? What's this massive lie you want to dump on me? If you want to take a shot at my father, Erica, go ahead and take it.

Kendall: Love -- yeah, that's no -- no pressure there. What am I supposed to do with that?

Zach: Nothing, you know, I -- I don't want anything from you. I just -- I want you to have your life back, with or without the baby.

Kendall: I can take care of my life. You've done enough already.

Zach: I'm responsible for the creation of this child, and I -- I had no right. And I wish I could take it back.

Kendall: Well, you were all about how justified you were to pull the plug the night of the blackout.

Zach: And I believed it. And that same night, I learned that I shouldn't be playing God with people. I tried to fix my son. Now he's gone. Tried to fix you. And here we are. I took choices away from both of you, and I -- I wish I could bring them back. And I know I broke something in you. I know I cracked your self-confidence and your fearlessness. And I don't know what to do. I'm sorry.

Kendall: You're the reason that I can't raise this child.

Erica: You're late.

Greg: Josh -- son, I -- I can explain.

Josh: Well, I wish someone would. Would you take a shot at this? Please, someone tell me.

Erica: Your son really came to your defense. He really came to your defense when I dared to try to suggest that you were anything less than perfect. He was very protective. Josh, I owe you an apology. All this fuss -- Kendallís safe. Although, it's none of your concern since she has fired you as her doctor, and I expect you to honor that.

Ryan: Oh, he will.

Erica: Well, I can't tell you how relieved I am that Kendall is safe. And so are you -- and your son.

Greg: Are you all right?

Josh: Dad, does Erica really have something that could ruin you?

Greg: Son, I promise you, there's nothing I've ever done that I'm ashamed of with Erica Kane.

Jamie: Oh, that is so messed up. You want to bring up Babe and me? Well, that's fine. Yeah, we slept together.

Dixie: I'm not blaming you for anything, James. Come on, how could I?

Jamie: No, that's right. You weren't there. So you don't know what happened. Well, let me just fill you in -- just give you the short of it. J.R. and I made amends. We're tight again. Family.

Dixie: That's great. And you're right, I wasn't there. So how could I possibly know what happened and why? My life is no different -- you weren't there. So please, if you have to be angry with me, fine, be angry, but don't judge me. Not until you know everything. I -- I'm still a mother that loves her sons -- her friends, her family.

Jamie: Then why don't you just tell us this deep, dark secret and get it over with?

Dixie: I can't. I can't do that, not yet, but I will, ok? I promise you, I will someday.

Jamie: I'll hold my breath.

Dixie: Can we just find J.R.? Can we just do that? Because I just want to talk to him.

Jamie: Babe and I will take care of J.R. You stay the hell away from him.

Dixie: I can't do that. I can't make that promise.

Jamie: Babe, when J.R. gets in, you let me know.

Babe: If this is how Jamieís feeling, you're going to have to do a whole lot better with J.R.

J.R.: You're just ticked off that Babe gamed you into trusting her. She's got a husband, she's got a kid, she's got a life. You got -- potholders. Slamming back.

Janet: I don't want to hurt Babe. But I do want to protect that beautiful little boy of yours. I just fell in love with him. He's so sweet. And he's so loving, and he's so trusting. And I was, too, because Babe totally convinced me that she really wanted to be my daughter forever and ever. And I see that she's got you convinced about the, you know, "Until death do you part" part. Now, imagine, if she can string you and me along, imagine what this seemingly sweet mother could do to a -- an innocent -- your innocent child. Children need to be protected from selfish mothers. And -- and that child needs his daddy. You and I -- we've both been betrayed, J.R. I'm very sorry that my words have hurt you. But you do deserve the truth. And don't you worry. I will be loyal to you, even if no one else will be.

J.R.: Thanks, Janet. I take great comfort in that.

Janet: Take care of yourself and that sweet little boy.

J.R.: Don't worry. I'll take care of everything.

Dixie: I'll see myself out.

Babe: Dixie, wait. Look, what you've done to J.R. You can't just make it all go away by saying, "Mama's home. Everything's going to be all right."

Dixie: I know. I understand.

Babe: Do you really, though? Because all J.R. has right now is that you didn't love him enough to come home. That you sold him out for some other life, that someone or something out there was more important than him. So if you don't have a real honest-to-God good reason, make one up. Or J.R. will be lost forever.

Greg: Erica's upset at her daughter. She's lost control of Kendall, so she's acting out. She's just hitting at anybody in the vicinity.

Josh: Not anyone, Dad, you! You know why Erica brought me in here, don't you? I'd rather hear it from you than her.

Greg: I have no idea.

Josh: Fine. You and Erica continue on your little dance. Leave me out of it.

Ryan: She was on a private island. Madden's private island, where he doesn't let anybody in or out without his permission.

Erica: She was a prisoner?

Ryan: Well, apparently, she didn't think so. Erica, she could have given birth down there, and they could have given the baby away, and we would never, ever have seen him.

Erica: Where -- where did she go? How did she get away?

Ryan: Well, she didn't exactly escape. Zach Slater found her and convinced her to come back with him.

Erica: Zach? Oh, my God. He's almost as bad as Madden.

Ryan: Actually, he's not.

Zach: How did I make it impossible for you to raise your kid?

Kendall: Every time he kicks -- every time he does a 360, I think about how you cost me my future. How -- how can I be a good mother and love this child when every time he would sit on my lap, or -- or give me a kiss on the cheek, I'd be reminded that he cost me you? This child deserves a mother who looks at him with nothing but love. He deserves a mother who only sees him, not what she lost. And I can't give him that, Zach. And that's your fault, all of it. Even if I thought there was some chance that we can be together again, some chance at all, it's your fault, Zach. You made me have to leave you. You made me have to be alone.

Zach: You don't have to be alone, you know.

J.R.: Babe? Babe? Where is everybody? Boss give you the day off? No double -- triple overtime? Oh, I guess the Fusion wing won't be built in a day. Whoa! Hey, this is dangerous! You know, somebody could get killed!

[In J.R.ís daydream, Babe screams as she is buried by falling construction material.]

Babe: J.R.?

[When Babe approaches, J.R. comes out of his reverie and quickly pockets his flask of liquor.]

Babe: Oh. There you are.

Dixie: My family knows I'm alive. So you can't hold that over me anymore. They want a reason I've been gone so long. And I'm going to tell them that it's you. So you tell me where my daughter is, or they will rip you to shreds.

Ryan: Right now, Zach might be the best thing for Kendall.

Erica: How can you say that? God knows what he'll talk her into.

Ryan: Or out of. I mean, Erica, she's very vulnerable right now. And -- and she's very confused, obviously. And I do know Zach will take care of her.

Erica: Oh.

Ryan: I'm not a fan, either. But -- he stole your boat.

Erica: What?

Ryan: He stole your boat to rescue her and bring her back. He brought Kendall back. So either he's got a death wish, or -- or he really is in love with her.

Erica: And you're fine with that?

Ryan: He was able to do what you and I couldn't without ruining lives. He found Kendall, and he brought her back. So, whether you love Zach or you hate him, we do owe him.

Zach: You can have whatever you want, whether you keep the baby or not. I love you. I want you to be happy. It's your life, your future, and your choice. And whatever you decided, I will support you. If that's what you want. And if I what you want, I'm here.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Zach (to Kendall): I just want you to know that there's someone here who wants to spend the rest of his life with you, whether you keep the baby or not.

Babe (to J.R.): Maybe there's more to Dixieís story than she's letting on.

David (to Dixie): With the right dose, you'll have Madden spilling every secret he ever had.

Dixie (to David): What's in it for you?
