J.R.: Do you want to have another baby? That's your cue to bust out the pompoms and get all girly, weepy, cheery on me -- give me a B, give me an A, give me a kiss.

Babe: Oh. How did you go from sitting in a board meeting with a bunch of stuffed suits to this?

J.R.: Well, there's no connection. Cross my heart.

Babe: Ok, wait, wait. No, no, no. So it just hit you, what, in between budget proposals, "Hey, let's whip up Little A a new brother or sister?"

J.R.: Well, if we're lucky, we can have both. I mean, isn't that what you wanted? Isn't that your dream -- to have lots of kids? I mean, there's lots of rooms in the mansion just begging to be painted pink or blue.

Babe: J.R., I do want to have more kids, but I --

J.R.: So let's make one, right now.

Jack: So with all the drama surrounding Greg Madden from his crush -- no, let's call it what it was, his inappropriate fixation on you -- to his lie after lie after lie to the fact his son tried to sabotage your career, and you're saying that you want me to believe you had him on "New Beginnings," because it was good for the show?

Erica: All right. You've heard about keeping the enemy close. Well, Greg Madden is still treating Kendall. Playing nice with him is my way of safeguarding my daughter.

Jack: What else?

Erica: What do you mean, "What else?" There's nothing else.

Jack: Erica, Kendall is not the only reason that you had him on "New Beginnings."

Erica: I had him on "New Beginnings" to punish him.

Greg: My God.

Josh: Yeah. This whole time I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what brought on your arrhythmia. Was it stress, diet, anxiety? Turns out it's none of the above, because you were drugged. That's why you had these attacks. Erica tried to kill you, Dad.

Josh: That woman has seen her last standing ovation. It's all about the prison stripes now. I'm calling the cops.

Kendall: Take it, Ryan. Take this piece of garbage before I wad it into a ball and shove it down your throat.

Ryan: This is happening, Kendall, whether you like it or not.

Kendall: You know what I'd like? I'd like for you to hop on your bike and get the hell out of town one more time. Please, can you arrange that?

Ryan: I am the father of your child, and I have every right --

Kendall: No, you have no right. And I will never, ever let you get away with this. Well, right on cue. Ryan's one-time enemy, now partner in crime. What'd he do, Zach -- call you and tell you that it's "Gang Up on Kendall Day" so you raced right over? This is none of your business.

Ryan: Zach had nothing to do with this. This was 100% me, Kendall.

Kendall: Yes, I'm sure it is, Ryan. You know what? Spare me this tag-team bullying. It's never going to happen.

Zach: Can someone please tell me where I would find Simone, please?

Kendall: Find her yourself.

Zach: You going to be ok?

Ryan: This is between Kendall and me.

Kendall: Well, it's about to be between you and that paper shredder. You're not going to find Simone standing there. I told you I never want to see you again, get out of my life, and I meant it, so go already. Leave. This -- this is a joke. This document is a joke, and I really hope you didn't waste too much money on it, because it's never going to hold up in court.

Ryan: I wouldn't have gone to all the trouble, Kendall, if I didn't think I had a real shot. I have to find a way to try and protect my son, and this is it. I'm suing you for custody of our unborn child.

J.R.: You know, I normally find your hard-to-get act a turn-on, but I'm starting to think that you don't want to add to our family.

Babe: Here, right now?

J.R.: You'd be surprised how many Fortune 500 babies are conceived this way. In fact, it's good karma for the kid's financial future.

Babe: I just -- I think we need to give it some serious thought and make sure we're ready.

J.R.: What more do we need to be ready for? We're married, we're in love, we're financially set up. I mean, you want kids' boots all lined up against the door, so do I, so what are we waiting for, huh?

Babe: We just found our way back together.

J.R.: And we're solid. Look, we could be practical, sure, you know, weigh out the pros and cons? Or we could live life and just go for it.

[Zach finds Simone crying on Fusion's roof.]

Zach: I won't keep you long. I just wanted you to have this.

Simone: What is it, Zach?

Zach: It's a new birth certificate for Ethan. Finally acknowledged my son.

Simone: Good for you -- huh. But what good does this do for him? What do you want me to do, huh, Zach? You want me to take this to his grave and go, "Hey, honey, look -- your daddy finally loves you."

Zach: You can do whatever you want. Tear it up, you can throw it out, you can set it on fire. I just wanted you to know.

Simone: He's not coming back, is he? It's really over.

Zach: Yeah. It's ok to miss him.

Simone: It became so real to me just a little while ago. I just found out that I don't have anything left.

Kendall: What, do you think you're going to take possession of our son while he's still in my body?

Ryan: I want to protect my son. And when I win custody, I will be given the right to monitor you until he's born. At which time, you will hand him over to me.

Kendall: Oh, are you -- you're -- you're kidding me. This is unbelievable. You actually think you can get away with this?

Ryan: Well, you think I've been kidding around here, Kendall? I mean, I can't -- I can't just sit by and let you call the shots anymore, not when you want to put him up for adoption. I want to be the father to my son, and, yes, ideally I want you to be his mother. I want to raise him together, but you've made it very clear that that's not going to happen. I told you adoption is out, and you won't even talk to me about it, so, yeah, we're at a deadlock.

Kendall: So, what? So you want to stick to me like glue until I pop out your latest commodity?

Ryan: He'll be a baby, Kendall, not a business acquisition.

Kendall: Yeah, but not your baby. There is no way I'm letting you take him.

Ryan: That's not your call anymore.

Kendall: You want to fight me, Ryan? You really want to fight me? Because you will not win.

Ryan: I am not fighting you. I'm fighting Greg Madden.

Greg: No police, Josh. I mean it.

Josh: You don't believe it was her? Even with the proof right under your nose, Dad? She tried to kill you -- not just once, not just on national TV. She was behind all of your arrhythmia attacks. It's so obvious now.

Greg: Calm down, son.

Josh: Dad, just think about the way she was acting the day of the show. She practically had a heart attack when I told her I was staying to watch. She did everything she could to get me out of there, even threatened to sic security on me, because she knew if you went into cardiac arrest, I'd be there to save you, and that's the last thing that she wanted. Think about the water she gave you to drink. I went to take a sip, remember? She blew in there and ripped it out of my hands before I could even put it to my lips. That water was spiked. She knew it, because she did it.

Greg: You really think she did this?

Josh: Who else, Dad? You've heard the stories. Erica is no stranger to the wide world of attempted homicide. She even stabbed one of her own husbands. An attempt or three on your life is just her way of getting back at you for what you did to Kendall.

Greg: If Erica tried to kill me, it has nothing to do with Kendall. It has to do with you, Josh.

Erica: Greg Madden brought this on himself. My reasons for inviting him on my show are a direct result of his actions to Kendall and to me.

Jack: Ok, so you wanted to punish him -- how? Embarrass him, humiliate him?

Erica: Well, it doesn't really matter now, because Ryan talked me out of it.

Jack: Huh.

Erica: He made me see that I had nothing to gain by having Greg suffer.

Jack: Well, that's just great, isn't it? Your husband is totally in the dark about this, but you bare your soul to Ryan Lavery.

Erica: Oh, come on, Jack. Please don't do this. Please don't start bashing the Laverys again.

Jack: All right, let's get right back to bashing Greg Madden then, shall we? Let me see if I've got this right -- you had him on your show, so you could exact some kind of revenge, but you changed your mind thanks in large part to Ryan Lavery. Is that it?

Erica: Yes.

Jack: I thought we were through with all the secrets. I love you. I'm your husband. And after everything we've been through together, I would think you would know that you could tell me anything. So why are you holding back on me?

Erica: It's Josh.

Jack: So you're telling me you had Greg on your show because of his son, the man who drugged you and caused you to stab Zach Slater. Are we getting anywhere near the truth here, honey?

Erica: It's all true. All those things played into my decision, but it was primarily Josh. I know he's not your favorite person.

Jack: Oh, I've had greater fondness for criminals I've prosecuted.

Erica: But I don't think he's as depraved as you think. He's ambitious to a fault, yes, but I think that deep down he's -- he's not a bad person. He's arrogant, but I think that that comes from his innate desire to get ahead.

Jack: At whose expense?

Erica: No, I haven't for one moment excused the fact that Josh drugged me. But I think somewhere inside him, he knows what he did was wrong, and I'd just like to think that he would never do that again.

Jack: That's so naive of you.

Erica: I have been naive in the past, but I'm not naive anymore, and I do believe that Josh's life has just taken a turn for the better. He's an intern now at the hospital, God knows Joe Martin is watching him at every turn, and I just don't think he would risk losing all that to come after me ever again even if he wanted to. He's on a much better track.

Jack: I think this kid is all about the spotlight. Give him a few months, he'll step on anyone he needs to to get his name back in the headlines.

Erica: Look, please, Jack, please. Please can you stop attacking Josh? Please can you tell me that you can get past this?

Josh: You think because I drugged Erica, she drugged you?

Greg: So you admit it? You did drug her?

Josh: Dad, it's nothing next to what she's done. I mean, the stuff I slipped Erica would never cause her to keel over and possibly die.

Greg: Son, she could've gone to prison for stabbing Zach Slater. You could've destroyed her life.

Josh: But then I saved it, Dad. And if this is the way she thanks me -- by attempting to murder my own father, then I -- why would I waste my time?

Greg: Don't say that.

Josh: Will you quit defending her? She wants you dead. She hates you.

Greg: This has all gone so wrong. I never wanted any of this to get out. I wanted this to stay quiet. Son, I've only been trying to protect you.

Josh: Protect me from what?

Ryan: Look, I have to protect my son. I have to protect him from Greg Madden, because the guy has got, like, a sick obsession about trying to take our child, and I know that he's working you, Kendall. He's working you to get you to sign on to an adoption -- I know that.

Kendall: This -- the decision should be mine and mine alone.

Ryan: That's my point. But it won't be, Kendall. It will be his.

Kendall: Oh, God.

Ryan: In order for it to be yours, you're going to have to leave him.

Kendall: Oh, so, don't start, Ryan, please. Between you and Zach and my mother, it's like a broken record over and over again. And all of this fighting and manipulating hasn't made a bit of difference.

Ryan: No --

Kendall: Not one of you can show me concrete proof why I should drop Dr. Madden, and until then, Madden stays.

Ryan: Look, there is just no possible way that I will let that man near my child after what he did to your mother.

Kendall: Ryan, you're not just talking about terminating her pregnancy, are you? Start explaining fast.

Babe: As good as you feel and as much as I love you, I -- I won't just make a baby with you, not like this.

J.R.: Does the room really wig you out that much? We can go home if it'll make you feel more comfortable, assuming we don't get sidetracked in the car.

[J.R. chuckles]

J.R.: It's not the room, is it? You just don't want to make another baby, period.

Babe: How do you expect me to respond to that, J.R.? You're the one that doesn't want to make another baby. You want to test me, to see if I really love you or if this marriage is my big setup to nab Little A from his daddy.

J.R.: Now who's the paranoid one?

Babe: J.R., come on. Why don't you just admit it -- you're busted. And I know exactly why you're doing it -- it's Janet. Her text messages are still getting to you. "Is Babe on the level? Does Babe really love me?" And what better way to find out if I'm in it for the long haul than to see if I'll pop out another kid. Well, you know what? The test is over, Babe gets an F, because I can't have another baby with you, because I don't trust you.

Simone: I was late. I'm never late. I thought for sure that this was it -- my final gift to Ethan, his final gift to me. Huh. I was going to go pick up a home pregnancy test tonight. But I just found out that Ethan is never going to be a daddy. I prayed so hard for this, I wanted it so -- so badly to be true. I don't have anything. I don't -- I don't have anything left of him, nothing left of him except for a -- a stupid picture and, gee, a shiny new birth certificate.

[Zach hugs and comforts Simone as she cries.]

Kendall: If Greg did something earth-shattering to my mother, I deserve to know.

[Ryan sighs]

Ryan: Madden didn't just terminate your mother's pregnancy. He hid that fact from her when they ran into each other years later, and then he signed on to be your doctor without ever letting on that he had a history with your mother. I'm just -- I'm saying that everything the guy does is unethical.

Kendall: Ok. Blah, blah, blah. I know this already -- old news -- and I repeat, it's nothing damning enough for me to change doctors.

Ryan: No, just -- just -- just listen to me, ok? I may not be able to give you the proof that you need, but just -- just trust me, ok? Madden will ruin your life if you give him half a chance.

Kendall: My God, Ryan. What do you think the man's going to do -- steal this baby from my womb?

Josh: What's the big secret, Pop? What are you trying to protect me from?

Greg: You'll understand why I never wanted you to know. Nobody would ever comprehend what I did or -- or why. Joshua, I need you to know that I love you so very much. And I never would've done what I did if I didn't think it was the right thing to do.

Josh: Dad, ok, you're really freaking me out here. What -- what the hell did you do?

Erica: Look, I know that Josh Madden has done some terrible things.

Jack: Yeah?

Erica: I don't deny that. But I'm just trying to get past that, and I wish you could, too.

Jack: Erica, I can't pretend that this guy didn't drug you, and, frankly, I'm surprised you can.

Erica: I'm not pretending anything. But I think sometimes, Jack, that you are so fixated on the fact that he drugged me that you have forgotten that he saved my life.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Have a seat. Listen to me for a second, will you, please? This guy has milked that one good deed for all it's worth. He ended up with a dream job with you. His generous action guilted you out of pressing charges. You want to know what I think? I think it's a sin that Josh Madden isn't behind bars. And I think it's an even larger sin that he's allowed to practice medicine and prescribe drugs. Both he and his father are manipulative, deceptive, and I think they're dangerous. Now, we've got nothing on Greg. Boy, I could have Josh's license revoked like that -- all you would have to do is press charges.

Kendall: Ryan, why are you on the attack? I mean, what did Greg do that is so heinous? Nothing -- exactly. Thank you.

Ryan: I'm just -- I'm tired of arguing about this with you.

Kendall: Ok. So, skip the argument and head for court?

Ryan: You think I want to do this? You think I want to sue you for custody?

Kendall: Well, then don't, Ryan. Don't.

Ryan: I won't. If you leave Madden, I won't.

Kendall: God, Ryan, can you just pick another frequency, please?

Ryan: I love the baby that you're carrying, I want him in my life, and I -- I want what's best for him, and I believe that's with me. Kendall, I just -- I feel that in my heart, and I need you to feel it, too, but you -- you won't even be open to the possibility unless you dump Madden.

Kendall: Oh!

Ryan: Just trust me. Please, for the sake of our son, just sign the baby over to me, and I will tear up this petition on the spot.

Kendall: You -- you want to prove that you can be a good dad, who doesn't verbally abuse or punch or hit. It's too fast, Ryan. You haven't thought this through, not really.

Ryan: There's -- there's nothing rash about this, Kendall. I mean, it's so obviously the right choice. He's my son. I love him. I don't want to lose him. It's as simple as that.

Kendall: There's a difference between loving a child and wanting to possess it.

Ryan: Where did that come from?

Kendall: Ryan, you can't use our child as a trophy to make up for getting past your messed-up childhood.

Ryan: Did Madden say that to you? He -- he will do anything to influence your decision on this.

Kendall: Ok, listen to me, Ryan. Listen to me very clearly. Greg Madden will take care of our son. You either show me proof or you accept it.

Erica: So you could never let up on Josh?

Jack: After everything he's done to you, the woman I love, why would I want to let up on him?

Erica: Nothing I could say could change your mind?

Jack: I can't imagine what it would be.

Erica: Then there's nothing left for us to discuss.

Jack: Yes, actually, I think there is. Because I still don't understand why you had Greg Madden on your show.

Erica: You don't understand, because you don't want to understand. You just want to convince me to think like you -- to hold grudges and to wallow in resentment. And if it were up to you, people would pay for their mistakes for the rest of their lives! Well, you know what? I'm just not interested!

Josh: You should have been a filmmaker. You're a genius when it comes to milking suspense.

Greg: Well, it's not intentional, son, believe me.

Josh: You know I love you. Look, I know we've had our differences, but you're my father, my blood. I'd never turn my back on you.

Greg: I'm so lucky to have you. My miracle child.

Josh: Yeah, your pain in the rear, but loyal miracle child. Erica's not going to get away with this. I'm going to make sure of it. I almost lost you because of her, Dad. The thought of going through life without you scared me to death. I'm not going to let anyone take you away from me. You can always trust me. Now, please, just tell me what you're hiding.

Greg: It's the arrhythmia. It didn't happen suddenly. It's been going on for quite some time. I've been self-medicating, Josh. Rather than do the logical and go to a cardiologist or trust Hayward, I took medication on my own. The chemicals that showed up on my tox report -- I took those. On the day of the interview, I realized I would be stressed out. I upped the medication. I'm responsible for this. So here I am.

Josh: So Erica had nothing to do with this?

Greg: Son, if I had died, I would only have myself to blame. Me.

Simone: I want to die, too. I don't want another day without him.

Zach: As much as he loved you, I don't think he'd want you with him right now, not until you've lived the life you're supposed to lead.

Simone: I don't know how to be happy without him, Zach.

Zach: Can I ask you something?

Simone: Yes. Go ahead.

Zach: When you think of Ethan, what, do you -- what do you think about? Is it one special memory that you have or --

Simone: There was this -- this one time in -- in the very beginning when we first started dating. He asked me out to dinner. We were walking to the restaurant. And I was, you know, blabbering on like I always do with him. You know, totally oblivious that I was headed right for this huge puddle. You know what he did? Without even saying a word, he -- he just swept me up in his arms.

Zach: Hmm.

Simone: Yeah. And he carried me over the puddle. He didn't even set me down until we were inside the restaurant. Oh, man, in that moment, I knew he was a keeper.

Zach: Mm-hmm.

Simone: I guess I am smiling. I can be happy.

Zach: Maybe he's not that far away after all.

Simone: So when I miss him, all I have to do is look into my heart, and there he'll be? To carry me over the puddles?

J.R.: I haven't done a damn thing to shake your trust in me.

Babe: Except doubt me when you said you never would, test me when you swore you had faith in my love for you. J.R., I told you what Janet was feeding you was garbage, and you said that you trusted me, so what happened?

J.R.: Here. Read for yourself.

Babe: Crazy Janet. Great. So you're taking the word of a homicidal nut job over your wife? Can something this ridiculous and this lame really shake your trust in me? J.R., that scares the hell out of me.

J.R.: I still love you.

Babe: And I love you. And I do want to have more children. But how do you ever expect me to commit to that when you keep closing down your heart on me? J.R., I can't be with you if you're going to give in to the fear. It's no way to raise a family. I need to feel safe with you, and you with me, so we can pass it on to our children. And if you don't even have this much faith in me, then we've got a real problem.

J.R.: I want to trust you.

Babe: Then you'd better start. And fast, because I won't accept anything less.

J.R.: You're right. I'm letting a whole lot of crud dictate how I feel about you. I'm sorry, Babe. Look, I'm deleting the messages that Janet has sent me.

Babe: And what happens when she sets off your ring tone again tomorrow?

J.R.: I'll delete them without even looking at them. I swear. The only messages that I'll read are the ones backing how much you love me and how much I can trust you. Feel that? It's all yours. All of it. I'm not shutting any of it out. Well, not to you, anyway.

Babe: I've heard this before, you know.

J.R.: Well, don't take my word for it. Find out if I'm sincere.

Babe: What am I supposed to do? Crawl inside your head?

J.R.: Do what I did to you. Test me.

Josh: Dad, you have a major thing for Erica. You even said you were in love with her. Don't don't make up a lie this big just to protect her.

Greg: Josh, it was not a lie. I'm the reason I'm in this hospital bed. Not Erica -- me.

Josh: I don't buy it. I'm going to go tell Hayward.

Greg: Don't do that.

Josh: Dad, he is your doctor. He needs to know what's in your blood.

Greg: Joshua, I stopped taking the medication. Within a couple of days, all traces of it will be out of my blood. Then I promise you, I will follow what Hayward says by the book. Please don't humiliate your old man by showing this to him. Take it and destroy it. I couldn't take any more embarrassment. Please don't do it.

Erica: Greg, Josh, Ryan, Jonathan -- who am I forgetting? Who isn't worthy of forgiveness?

Jack: Are you mocking me?

Erica: Oh, no, I really want to know. Apparently you are the expert on who deserves a second chance. Please, advise me. Who gets a second chance? Because if saving a person's life doesn't qualify, I should think that having a part of your brain removed --

Jack: Oh, no, no --

Erica: Should at least garner some sympathy.

Jack: Don't you dare try to tell me that Jonathan Lavery deserves sympathy. My daughter -- our daughter is totally withdrawn because of that man!

Erica: Lily is totally withdrawn, because of you! You don't trust her. You don't listen to her. You won't try to understand where she's coming from. No wonder Lily is so frustrated. You won't let her grow up. And on top of it, you insist that the only man she love is you.

Jack: Oh, that's ridiculous.

Erica: No, that is the truth. You're intolerant. And you've vindictive.

Jack: Well, if I'm such a monster, then why the hell did you marry me?

Erica: Because I loved you. And because I really thought you would protect our family. And I thought that you would get us through the tough times. But you know what? When I think about it and all the turmoil this family has been in for the last few months, that is on one person's head, Jack, one. That's yours.

Ryan: Kendall, please, just trust me. Trust that I wouldn't steer you wrong.

Kendall: Well, look who's back.

Zach: Just passing through.

Kendall: I just had an epiphany, and I would love for you to hear it.

Ryan: Kendall --

Kendall: You know how you and Ryan have been pushing me to dump Dr. Madden, claiming that he's evil, but you both have something very concrete, yet secret backing your claims? Well, here's what I think. You're a couple of manipulative liars. You're just jealous, because I trust Dr. Madden, and I don't trust either one of you.

Ryan: I told you before, Kendall, that you are not the one that I'm fighting.

Kendall: No, I'm exactly who you're fighting. So go in your corner and get ready, because I will fight back. And I can guarantee, you will not know what hit you!

J.R.: What are you doing?

Babe: You said to test you, so here it comes.

[Phone rings]

Babe: Aren't you going to check it out?

J.R.: "R U 4 real?"

Babe: Are you?

J.R.: Completely. Total trust. No more fear. Just plenty of this.

Babe: I do think that it's too soon to make baby number 2. But I am starting to see the upside of doing it in a boardroom. Motion to make love on the conference table. All those in favor?

J.R.: Aye.

[Babe and J.R. laugh as they recline on the table.]

[Knock on door]

Jack: Hey.

Kendall: You have to help me, Jack. Ryan can't be my baby's father anymore.

Zach: So, what exactly went on between the two of you?

Ryan: More of the same.

Zach: The good doctor.

Ryan: I know that you care about Kendall. I do. And I do, too. I care about her and my son. I'm even willing to work with you.

Zach: So why don't you tell me what you have on Madden?

Josh: You say you caused your own attacks.

Greg: It's the truth. My arrogance got in the way of my common sense. I promise it won't happen again. Please promise me you'll keep this between us.

[Pager beeps]

Josh: I got to take this. I'll be back to check on you later.

Greg: I'll be here.

[Once alone, Greg recalls recent events and has an epiphany about Erica and Josh.]

Erica: This is not about my daughter. This is about Josh -- who he is and what should be done about it.

Josh: Before the ambulance took you away, you said that I couldn't be your son.

Erica: You --

Greg: She knows.

[Erica shows up in Greg's room bearing a big bouquet of white roses and a smile.]

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Jack: Ryan's the baby's father, Kendall.

Kendall (to Jack): Well, if I can give him rights, I can take them away.

Erica: Do you regret what you did to me, Greg?

Tad: Anyone in there? Fair warning. I might just see something I'm not supposed to.

[As Tad walks into a dark room, Dixie hides behind the door.]
