All My Children Transcript Tuesday 6/14/05

Ryan: Erica, you know I love you, but I just can't do this right now.
Erica: Ryan, this is about your marriage.
Ryan: Look, Jack and I already had a chat. So if you're here to deliver the second half of the --
Erica: No, I'm here to help -- you and Greenlee. Believe it or not, Ryan, I know what's going on in that -- that wife of yours' unique head better than you do right now, and you need to hear it.
Greenlee: What about my husband?
Greenlee: What doesn't
Greenlee: Hasn't started. Spill, Simone.
Simone: Well, I am a little partial to my arms, but I can outrun you.
Greenlee: Wait -- have you both lost it?
Ethan: Don't you say a word, Simone.
Krystal: That's it, isn't it? You -- you
Tad: Yeah. I found
Di: Yes. It's me.
Jamie: Chocolate chip cookies, no nuts -- that's what she always made for us. You heard her. You called her "Mom." You want to believe it, too.
Di: It's a lot to take in.
Jamie: No, no, but it's all good. You want it to be the truth. Stop fighting it, J.R. Your mom's home.
Palmer: You trying to kill me --
Palmer: With some cockamamie story about
Di: Now, just give him time, Jamie.
J.R.: Time for what? To work out your performance? Don't be such a sucker. This woman is not my mother.
Jamie: How else would she know about the cookies?
J.R.: Tad whipped up a story about fingerprints. I'm sure he could've told her all about the cookies.
Jamie: You know my dad wouldn't lie about something like this.
J.R.: Diana is a smart woman. I'm sure you took a guess, right? I mean, how many kids hate chocolate chip cookies, right?
Adam: Help! I need help down here! J.R.!
Adam: I bet everybody will think I caused your heart attack because I hate you so much.
Palmer: Well, you did cause me to have a heart attack. You're -- you're trying to kill me.
Adam: You're not dead yet. Here, drink this.
Palmer: Oh -- no --
Adam: Drink it!
Palmer: You're trying to drown me? I swear -- I swear, bolts of lightning from heaven with your name on them should come down --
Adam: You're not going to heaven or anywhere close to --
J.R.: My God, Dad, what are you doing?
Di: Uncle Palmer?
Krystal: What am I missing here? Everybody
knows how you felt -- feel -- about
Tad: Well, maybe I have. How am I supposed to feel about a woman that let her own family think she was dead for three years? What am I supposed to think about a woman that would leave us in pain all that time, knowing that we were mourning her for dead? And then when she's curious enough, she sneaks back into town so she can spy on us, so she can play nursemaid to her own grandkid.
Krystal: Wait a minute, J.R.’s nanny is --
Tad: For months.
Krystal: There must be some sort of explanation.
Tad: I don't care. I don't care. Whatever
the hell it is isn't good enough for me. You got to understand that this makes
Krystal: And you.
Tad: Nah. I'm an idiot. I just had to ask
the question, you know? I just had to ask -- ok. Well,
Krystal: I'm -- I'm so sorry.
Tad: We lost a child. All that time she couldn't -- she couldn't pick up a phone? She couldn't do something? Nothing.
Krystal: She -- she came back, Tad. That is something.
Tad: No, it's not, not to me. Because the
Di: You still hate my uncle so much you want him dead!
Adam: I rest my case.
Di: What did you do?
Adam: The man collapsed.
Di: What did you say? Now, try to relax, Uncle Palmer. Where's your nitro? You didn't forget your pills, did you? You scare the hell out of him, make it look like an accidental death.
Adam: This is your doing, lady, not mine.
Di: Hang on, hang on, Palmer. I just got here. You can't leave me now. We've got too much catching up to do. Here. That's better now, yeah?
[Palmer breathes deeply]
Di: Now -- there. There's the color back in your cheeks. Handsome as ever.
Jamie: Yeah, we have a man that just collapsed from heart problems. We need an ambulance.
Palmer: No, no, no, no. No ambulance. No, I'm not -- I'm fine. I'm not setting foot out of this house until you explain yourself, young lady.
Greenlee: Where the hell do you get off muzzling employees?
Ethan: Simone is the last employee that I'd want to see being muzzled, but I don't like seeing her being harassed.
Greenlee: We're in the middle of something.
Ethan: Well, not anymore. Simone?
Simone: You know, if this has anything to do with the supplies I took from the storage room, I was --
Ethan: No, no, this -- um -- is for you.
Simone: Oh, my God. We won the tournament?
Ethan: Well, not exactly, no. It's "most striking spirit -- Simone Torres."
Simone: Oh! You're not kidding?
Ethan: No, you blew everybody in Idyll Hour Lanes -- you blew them away. There was a unanimous vote.
Simone: Oh, my gosh, this is the very first trophy I have ever won. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. I know exactly where to put it.
Greenlee: We need to talk, now.
Ethan: Ahem. Ok.
Simone: You know what? I am armed, and I'm not afraid to use it.
Simone: You won't hurt me.
Greenlee: What was that with Simone?
Ethan: Beautiful, charming, and fun.
Greenlee: You're an idiot.
Ethan: I'm your boss.
Greenlee: But you're still a big, fat
meathead when it comes to
Erica: Greenlee confided in me, strange as that sounds. And maybe it was just a rash moment, I'm not sure, but what she said is important.
Ryan: Greenlee and you had a heart-to-heart, and I'm sorry, but that's a little tough for me to visualize.
Erica: Well, that's because you're a man. And men tend to just lock into this one myopic view of the woman they love, and there's no shaking them loose. Ryan, I know what you did, and I know why you did it.
Ryan: Greenlee told you?
Ryan: Well, it's over and done. Not a lot to talk about.
Erica: No, that's not true, Ryan. Ryan, you have made a tragic mistake.
Ryan: I love you, Erica, but that's your opinion. This is the best decision that I have ever made.
Erica: Ryan, this isn't mindless meddling.
I made your mistake -- with
Ryan: Look, what happens between Greenlee and me is not up for family discussion. We make our own choices.
Erica: Ryan, you and I have a lot in common. We were both abused by our fathers. No harsh words, no fists, but my father sold me to a rapist.
Ryan: My God. If he wasn't dead, I would kill him.
Erica: Thank you. You're not the only one. And so for years I lived with that pain. I mean, I blocked it, I stuffed it down, but it was always there.
Ryan: Look, I'm -- I'm sorry. But I'm -- I'm dealing with mine. I've taken control.
Erica: Ryan, you've let the fear take control.
Ryan: What my father and my brothers were, Erica, is very real to me.
Erica: And no one wants to repeat that
kind of pain. No one wants to give that kind of cruelty another chance. What
you and I have experienced -- most other people never experience that kind of
hurt. And we react out of our memories, as I did with
Ryan: The circumstances are totally different, Erica.
Erica: No, Ryan, they're not. Listen to me -- it took me years to get it, years that caused so much damage. Please don't do what I did. Don't -- don't lose that precious time.
Ryan: But I have all the time that I need. I have a wide-open future with the woman that I love.
Erica: It's not so wide open. You've closed a door, as I nearly did with Kendall -- Kendall and Bianca. Bianca was pregnant with her rapist's child, and I fought it. I fought her, because I was convinced that every time Bianca looked at that baby, she would be traumatized all over again. I actually thought that Bianca would look in that sweet Miranda’s face and see that baby's father. Well, I was wrong. Kendall and Miranda -- there's no taint there. There's no evil. They are blessings, Ryan, and that's what I want for you. I want you to have complete peace.
Ryan: Peace is a bit of a stretch. I'm working on getting through the night.
Erica: You can have so much more, Ryan. Please learn from me, Ryan. Please don't make the same mistakes that I did.
Palmer: How -- how did this happen? Where did you come from?
Di: I'll tell you everything you need to know on the way to the hospital. Now, Jamie, would you mind taking us?
Jamie: Not a problem.
Palmer: I've had angina attacks before.
Di: I know.
J.R.: Oh, you do, do you?
Di: But it still wouldn't hurt to have a doctor check you out.
Palmer: No, this isn't the first, and, let me tell you, it isn't the last. I'm fine, I'm fine. You, on the other hand, are in deep trouble, young lady -- whoever the hell you are.
Adam: That's more like it. Tell her she's a fraud.
Jamie: Back off.
Palmer: The face -- not so much
J.R.: Or contacts? New color every day?
Palmer: Start talking.
Di: I don't know where to begin.
Palmer: Well, the truth would help.
Di: I can't expect you to understand. I -- I didn't mean for it to happen this way. I just --
J.R.: Yeah, because you didn't get what you came for?
Jamie: Let her finish.
Di: It's all so jumbled, so out of control. I did not -- my God, it just -- it just makes me sick to know that I've caused you this much grief.
J.R.: No, you know what? Uncle Palmer, do not be buying this. This woman is not my mother. My mother would never do this. She would never spy on us or lie to us.
Di: I didn't want to.
J.R.: Well, that's not nearly good enough,
is it? Why didn't you just tell us when you came to
Di: I had to make sure you all weren't better off without me.
Greenlee: You need to open your eyes. Until you blew it, you had a woman you loved probably more than you've ever loved anyone, and she loved you back.
Ethan: She married my father.
Greenlee: She's ten feet away from you. Ten lousy feet. You could change your life. How about it, Ethan? Can you do it? You got the yayas to go over there and say, "I'm an idiot, but I'm an idiot who still loves you"?
Ryan: You're asking me to take chances with human lives, to -- to create a little Lavery and then just really hope that the Lavery toxins don't bubble up to the surface. Well, I won't do that with a child or my wife.
Erica: Ryan, do you really think that your fate's been sealed by this -- this minuscule amount of DNA you got from your father?
Ryan: I will not gamble my wife or my child's lives.
Erica: You know something, Ryan? When you thought that you were Chris Stamp's son, you were fine. Well, nothing's changed. You're still you. And you've known for years that Braden was your brother. But, I don't know, ever since you found out that -- that you are still Patrick Lavery's son, I mean, you think you're the bad seed.
Ryan: But I've done things, Erica.
Erica: You know what, Ryan? Everybody has done things they wish they hadn't, and I mean good people. It doesn't make them monsters.
Ryan: Braden, Jonathan, me -- I mean, what are the odds that I got lucky?
Erica: You did get lucky. Look at you! You are still the same fabulous person you've always been. And the Ryan I know would show what he's made of, would prove what he's made of.
Ryan: What is that? What, equal parts drunk, rapist, killer, mixed in with a little psycho?
Erica: No, that's not you. You call your doctor right now, and you have him reverse this procedure.
Tad: You know, when
Krystal: Kate. You told me.
Tad: I got on a plane, and the next thing
Krystal: But now you have a second shot.
Tad: Three years -- three years of my life I spent staring in the night sky, looking at the stars, talking to her, thinking about that letter, thinking about what if, what would've been or could've been. I'm sorry. What the hell am I doing? The last thing you need is to hear about this.
Krystal: You need to say it, Tad. Don't hold back. Honey, your whole world has been rocked hard.
Tad: Three years. And after all that, she couldn't pick up a phone, make a call, write a letter, fire off an e-mail?
Krystal: You know, people have a lot of reasons for doing the things that they do, and they make perfectly good sense at the time. That's why I'm standing here wearing orange.
Tad: No. No. The reason you're in here is
because you did something noble, because you cared enough to make a sacrifice
nobody else was willing to make for somebody you love. What's
Krystal: She's here now.
Tad: And I'm supposed to care? I'm
supposed to give a damn? No. No, I should've learned my lesson. I should've let
go. I mean, that affair with
Krystal: You loved her.
Tad: Yeah, well, right now I feel like the
guy that jumps off a roof and breaks every bone in his body, then gets up, does
it all over again, hoping he'll catch an updraft. I'm done, and that's the good
news. Case is solved,
Krystal: Well, I got something to tell you, Tad, and I don't think you're going to like it.
Di: Three years is a long time. I knew you'd grieved, moved on.
Palmer: We were open to a miracle.
Di: But I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what I'd find here. I thought it best to ease in slowly so --
Adam: By masquerading as Mary Poppins?
Jamie: Doesn't make a lot of sense.
Di: I had already messed up so many lives.
J.R.: That's no excuse.
Jamie: When we were kids, you were all about the truth no matter what. What happened to that?
Di: The truth? After a while, I didn't
know what that was anymore. Dixie Cooney didn't even seem to exist -- different
face, different voice. I didn't look the same. I didn't feel the same. All I
felt was cold fear. I didn't know who I was. I -- I was afraid that
Jamie: So you came here to spy on us?
Di: No, I didn't mean for it to be like this.
J.R.: What would you have done if Tad hadn't outed you?
Di: I'm not completely sure.
J.R.: Why don't you allow me to take a guess, then. You would've continued with this joke, continued living in this house, watching your grandson grow up, and your son missing you and grieving over you, and never saying a word, right? Oh, my God. You would've left again. You're not my mother. You can sing her songs, you can bake her cookies -- I don't really give a damn. My mother wouldn't have done this to me. She would've loved me. She would've loved my son, and she would not have trashed our lives!
Di: I know how hard it is.
J.R.: You're a fraud. Leave.
Palmer: Hear her out, J.R.
Jamie: Give her a chance to explain.
Di: I won't even ask you to understand. I just -- I just thought if I came back here and everyone was happy and healthy, I thought it'd be easier for -- I know, J.R., how much you hurt after I died.
Adam: Can't fault your research.
Di: I just wanted to see you. I ached to be near you.
J.R.: So you applied for a job?
Di: I can watch over my son and my grandson. I could share in your joy, help you, not hurt you, not rip you apart all over again.
Adam: Oh, hypothetical hooey. You're nothing but a fraud with a mediocre cover story.
Di: Shut up, Adam! You know, Tad bumped up the timing, but I had already decided to tell the truth. I couldn't stand by and watch any longer, not after what I had seen.
Palmer: And what did you see?
Adam: Combination to the safe? Umbrella out of town with all you could carry?
Di: I saw my son destroyed by you.
Krystal: I should be on my knees praying
Tad: Oh, honey, don't do this now. Don't go into your act, please
Krystal: What act? You see right through me just like I see through you. And I care about you too much to let you go on lying to yourself.
Tad: What are you talking about, lying to myself? I know what I know.
Krystal: Oh, ok.
Tad: It's over. It has to be.
Krystal: So that's it, huh? What kind of PI are you anyway? Have you even interrogated the witness, huh? Have you scrutinized the evidence? Have you looked into her eyes, shone a light on her heart? Did you ever think maybe, just maybe, you need to dig a little bit deeper to get at the truth?
Tad: The truth? Girlfriend, you been listening to me? The truth just kicked me in the face.
Krystal: No. That was just the first wave.
Tad: Oh, well, by all means --
Krystal: No, no, you don't know what's
coming next. Take it from an expert, ok? People do a lot of wack things to
protect the ones that they love. You gave me a second chance. Don't you think
Tad: You know, you're the last person I should've come to. You're still trying to get rid of me.
Krystal: Tad, I never had you.
Ryan: I am not calling any doctor. I made the right decision.
Erica: You're giving in.
Ryan: I am not giving in.
Erica: You have no free will, you're saying you have no choice, DNA has sealed your destiny. And what about Greenlee? What about her dreams? You just ended them without even consulting her.
Ryan: No, Greenlee is with me now. We are in this together now.
Erica: You can't expect a woman to just give up her dreams of a child, of a family. That's a life-altering decision.
Greenlee: What are you waiting for? Go over there and kiss her.
Ethan: I've had enough of being target
Greenlee: Where do you get off being all wounded and victimized? You lied to her bigtime. When we were in that cave, we didn't know whether we were going to get out. And when Jonathan said that he killed Edmund, the look on her face? Everything she had, everything she believed in, wiped out by your lie. How did you expect her to react?
Ethan: I told you, I was doing it to protect her.
Greenlee: You know what? If I hear that out of a man's mouth one more time, I'm going to puke pea soup. Maybe Bianca has it right. What is wrong with you men? You can't tell the truth, you can't be honest and straightforward.
Ethan: I call that experience.
Greenlee: Why don't we just agree that
Ethan: She's charming, she's beautiful, she's a lot of fun, and she doesn't come with any sharp objects.
Greenlee: I've done the ricochet romance before. You really want to hurt that sweet, young woman?
Ethan: Nothing could be further from my mind. Simone?
Ethan: Why don't we go for a drive?
Simone: Oh, can I take my trophy?
Greenlee: Simone’s not going anywhere. We're still on the clock. We've got a deadline.
Ethan: Well, it's up to you. I mean, I am your boss, and I think I'm still your boss. Um -- we could take the top down, we could have -- it's a beautiful day.
Simone: Oh --
Greenlee: Boss, how many times are you going to use that one? Kendall and I own enough stock to make your life a mess, and we'll use it.
Ethan: Listen, there is a phenomenal
restaurant, just opened in
Greenlee: I need you, Simone.
Simone: Ethan, you mind? I need to finish up a few things.
Ethan: Not at all. Bonus points for a wonderful employee. Ok? Listen, I promise you I will call you, ok?
Simone: Ok. He'll call. Oh, no, no. The book said that if they say they're going to call, they never do.
Greenlee: Simone, what were you going to tell me before we got interrupted? Move it along. Nothing to see.
Di: You're in so much pain, J.R.
J.R.: I'm fine.
Di: The things it makes you do to yourself, to the others around you. I couldn't stand by and keep quiet any longer.
Adam: I have been by my son when half the people in this town, including the people who cared about him, told him his child was dead.
Di: Because you love him so damn much?
Palmer: Well, that sounds like our
Di: Your love is a four-letter word for "control." You'd do just about anything to control J.R. -- make a mother go insane, turn him against his ex-wife and his brother?
J.R.: You've been back in town for, like, what, an hour, and you're already siding against me?
Di: No, J.R. I'm for you. I want to help you, but your revenge against Babe and Jamie -- it can only hurt you.
Adam: They got what they deserved.
Jamie: How did this miracle turn into an attack on us?
Di: Because that's what Adam teaches. You know, you should be very happy. J.R. is on the fast track to becoming you -- lonely and miserable and nasty. I won't let you do that to him.
Adam: J.R., call the agency and get us a new nanny for tomorrow, hmm? Something -- something sane without a Mommy complex.
Di: I won't let you destroy my son. That's why I decided to tell the truth.
J.R.: That's just great. You come back to save me from myself. If I'd been a good boy and ate all my vegetables, would you ride off into the sunset? No, you're no better than Tad or Krystal or Babe or Jamie. They all let me think that someone I loved was dead. And if my mother can do that, you're dead to me, too.
Tad: Why do you got to try so hard to push me in the arms of a dead woman?
Krystal: I'm not.
Tad: Yes, you are.
Krystal: I'm just stating a fact, Tad. I never
had you. I was just a placeholder for
Tad: What we had is as real as it gets.
Krystal: What I want you to do is this. I
want you to get out of here, and I want you to Sherlock the truth out of
Tad: I don't think I'll like it. Ok. But one way or another -- I don't care what happens -- I'm coming back.
Krystal: I'm not going anywhere.
Tad: I mean it. You can't get rid of me that easy.
Krystal: Lord knows I've tried.
Guard: Ok, enough with the PDA. Step back, both of you.
Krystal: You heard the lady.
Tad: Yeah, I did. Come here. Remember what I said. No matter what happens, I will not forget about you.
Greenlee: What's this big scoop you've got on Ryan?
Simone: There's another woman.
Simone: It's like this. You and Ryan, kind of pretty rocky, all right, this whole baby/no baby thing? So I flashed this idea -- you know, make you think that there's this mystery woman, so that you'll fight really hard to keep your hubster.
Greenlee: Is she certifiable or is it just me?
Greenlee: So who is this woman who was going to make me so possessively jealous?
Simone: She's exotic. She's extremely sexy. Me.
Greenlee: It must be really weird inside your head.
Simone: Oh, you don't even know. It's like there's two companies in there. One manufactures these crazy ideas, and the other one buys them, because they sound so good. Something always goes wrong, and then the warranty wears off.
Simone: What was that about?
Greenlee: Who cares? Try not to come up with any more insane ideas. We've got major planning to do to save my husband.
Ryan: I know it's going to be tough for Greenlee, but I am going to do everything in my power to give her a perfect life.
Erica: Without a child? Ryan, you can't expect her to just flip off the wanting-a-baby switch. I mean, it's very hard for a woman not to want a baby, especially when she's in love with a man as wonderful as you.
[Erica and Ryan hug.]
Erica: If you need me, you know where to reach me.
Greenlee: We'll break into the fertility clinic and snatch Ryan's baby-makers.
Simone: Ok, ok. You know, this whole B&E thing -- my rap sheet's pretty long already.
Greenlee: No, no, no, we won't get caught. I've got it all figured out. There are only three possible Ryans. We steal them all and go from there.
J.R.: I said I was your only friend. Right now you're my only friend. You got to help me.
Adam: Before we throw a "Welcome Home" party, I would like a DNA test.
Palmer: You haven't done one yet?
Di: I'll take it -- whatever you want, whenever you want.
Adam: The sooner, the better.
Palmer: Is it really possible?
Di: The DNA test will prove it, Uncle Palmer.
Jamie: I don't need tests. I need answers. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but for once I'm on J.R.’s side. I don't get it. I don't get how you could do that to him, to us, and especially my dad.
Tad: I'd kind of like the answer to that one myself.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
[Simone and Greenlee break into the fertility clinic.]
Greg: Who's there? Who was that?
Jamie: Face it, Adam. The mother of your son is back.
Tad (to Di): Look at me. You don't get to run out on me ever again.
