All My Children Transcript Tuesday 5/24/05

[A string quartet plays as Jack and Erica walk toward each other then are joined by their respective offspring and all walk toward the Banyan tree.]
Minister: Welcome, Erica, Jackson, and your beautiful families. You've come here to this special place for a special purpose -- to join man and woman in the most exalted of bonds. And to join your families, two into one. A profound act of love, faith, and courage. If anyone knows why this man, this woman, these two families should not be joined, speak now.
Reggie: There's really no need for that "speak now or forever" stuff. We're all good here. Get to the part about "dearly beloved, I now pronounce you --" well, you know --
Kendall: No, no -- no, don't do it again. Not now.
Reggie: Oh, Greenpea, I swear to God, if you so much as think about --
Greenlee: I itch! Better. Sorry.
Minister: Erica, Jackson, when we spoke earlier, you said you felt kismet brought you here for your vows. You were drawn by the ancient beauty of the Banyan tree -- how the tree grows out, rather than up, how the branches shoot out new roots so that they can find a haven in the soil, bringing strength to the tree. That's the family you create here today. New roots, new growth. One sheltering tree. Who gives this woman to this man?
Kendall and Bianca: We do.
Minister: And who gives this man?
Lily, Reggie, and Greenlee: We do.
Reggie: You know, you could seriously trip on this whole cosmic-kismet-tree thing. I mean, I'm me, and you're you. One of these things is not like the other, right? And now you're my parents. Mother and father. Doesn't even begin to make sense. Except it does. Jack, you're not just my guardian, or some guy who checks over my homework. You're my dad. You know how good that makes me feel inside? And, Erica -- the classiest lady I ever met. Scariest, too.
Reggie: Talk about fierce --
Reggie: But, lady, your heart -- it's as big as the world. You know, where I come from, you get used to not expecting too much. Nothing good, at least. But you two together -- you let me expect, and you make me believe. I love you guys.
Lily: I wanted to tell you the surface area and the fluid volume of the average human heart, because the heart is supposed to be for love -- even though it isn't very romantic and it's red. But I didn't have the time to get that information, so Reggie told me I could just tell you the information in my head. My favorite times with you both. My dad helped me say my first word. He helped me be not so different, but never made me not be me. So that's a time I like very much. My favorite moment with you, Erica, is different. It's when I ran from Adam Chandler's big house and got stuck by the side of the road. And the red light flashed, and it hurt my eyes and my head. And you told me to look at your blue wrap. And I did. And because of the light, it looked purple, and I really like purple. I was afraid, but then I wasn't because of you.
Erica: Oh, Lily, I love purple. And I love you.
Greenlee: I found you way too late. But since we're both overachievers, we crammed a lot into a short time. But that's somewhere else, away from this place. Here, under your tree, all there is is love. I love you. Erica -- we've never been friends. But the way you love the big guy next to you -- like Reggie says -- fierce. Thank you for loving my father. Thank you for making him crazy and cranky and way beyond happy. That you do that, in a way, makes you the best friend I'll ever have. And if you ever hurt him --
Kendall: I love you.
Erica: I love you.
Kendall: It has taken a long time for us to get to this place -- love, you and me. And now I am -- I'm so proud of us. And I'm so proud that you're my mother. And, Jack, I'm so grateful that you've accepted me as your daughter.
Jack: You know I do.
Kendall: I know. I know, and that's what makes this so -- I've just -- I've never had a father like you. I never imagined I could have a father like you -- to love and trust and always be there for me. Thank you.
Bianca: You are Erica Kane -- strong.
Reggie: Fierce. Fierce, too.
Lily: Very pretty.
Bianca: My mother. Even as a kid, that blew my mind, that I came from you. That I had to live up to you. I have watched you conquer the world. I've seen you lost in it. But you never gave up, not for long. As a kid, it terrified me that I would never measure up.
Erica: Oh, Bianca, but you know that you are more than I ever could have hoped for.
Bianca: It's ok. Somewhere along the way between my childhood and today, I found myself -- part of me that's like you, part of me that isn't. And you found me, too. Because you never, ever stop fighting for what really matters -- love and family. You never gave up. You never gave up until you had it all. And look at you now, Mom. You have the world. I've always loved you as my uncle. And since my dad died, you've been there -- not just a place keeper or substitute. But as my father, in every way that counts. And now we're going to make it official. We're going to be a family.
Bianca: All of us.
Jack: You're trembling.
Erica: I have a confession. I'm not that fierce.
Jack: I'd have never known.
Erica: It's been so long, Jack. We've come so close to this moment, so close we could touch it. Yet we always pulled away.
Jack: Ever since our crash landing in the desert.
Erica: You saved my life.
Jack: And you ruined mine. I'd fallen in love, but I couldn't have you -- yet.
Erica: We found a way to find each other.
Jack: We had to go all the way to Paris to do that.
Erica: Oh, those violins. You know, I still hear them sometimes in my dreams.
Jack: My beautiful Corinne.
Reggie: Do I even want to know?
Jack and Erica: No.
Jack: But Paris was a dream. Reality got in the way.
Erica: We were friends first, and then lovers. And then two people who couldn't find their way home to each other.
Jack: Other faces, other mates. And still, you.
Erica: Always you.
Jack: You made me crazy. "Yes" was "no." "Maybe" was "never." "Right" was "wrong."
Erica: But "wrong" was never wrong enough to keep us apart. You waited for me.
Jack: You made that easy -- and impossible.
Erica: So many years and rings and broken promises. But I don't blame us for not having the courage before. How do you touch destiny? It's not a piece of paper two people sign, and it's not words you say out loud.
Jack: It's a solemn vow, unbreakable, soul to soul.
Erica: That I will love you with all that I am.
Jack: That I will comfort you and protect you till the end of time.
Erica: You are my peace and my possibility.
Jack: You are my path and my answer. Because of you, I can expect. I believe.
Erica: I believe that when my world turns red you will turn it purple.
Jack: You will keep on fighting, winning, inspiring.
Erica: And I won't do anything to make Greenlee come after me.
Erica: Jackson, I love you. I vow to spend the rest of my life with you, to live all our dreams. I vow to speak and to listen, to hear the voice of the father of our children, to set sail for the future with my husband. And no one jumps overboard. We chart our course together.
Jack: I vow to spend the rest of my life with you. I vow to help you when you need it, step aside -- way aside -- when you don't. I vow to love, honor, and respect our children's mother. I vow to make your life amazing, because you amaze me.
Erica: You are my husband from this day until the day I die.
Jack: You are my wife from this day till the day I die. Oh, but you're my heart for all eternity.
Minister: Erica, Jackson, you are now husband and wife. Kane family and the Montgomery family are now one.
[Everyone cheers as a dule of white doves take flight.]
Erica: Jack, you said you'd never --
Jack: This is the wedding to end all weddings. What wouldn't I do for you, Mrs. Montgomery?
[Classical music plays]
Lily: Did you know that some Banyan trees have over a thousand roots?
Reggie: And that's us? Oh, no way did I sign up for 999 sisters.
Bianca: Oh, now, what's wrong, Reggie? What, you don't want to learn about hair and makeup?
Greenlee: Or where to buy the best shoes?
Reggie: Oh, I did not sign up for that.
Kendall: Oh, you know, you're a stud, kiddo, you're a stud.
Reporter: Ms. Kane -- Ms. Kane -- Ms. Kane, was the Pine Valley wedding a decoy? Was Oprah supposed to be your maid of honor?
Second reporter: What do you say, Erica? Is the 10th time the charm?
First reporter: How does it feel to be the guy that gets to call Ms. Kane "Missis"?
[Everyone cheers as Erica and Jack kiss under a shower of white confetti.]
[Up in their suite…..]
Erica: Jack, Jack, they all waiting for us downstairs.
Jack: You're talking about the caterers? Honey, I've waited 17 years for this. The caterers can cool their heels for a little bit, ok? I love you so much, Mrs. Montgomery.
Erica: Oh. I love the sound of that.
Jack: So do I. I love the sound of my lips on your skin.
Erica: I love you.
Reggie: Ahem. Oh, don't mind us. Just --
Lily: We have your wedding present.
Jack and Erica: Oh!
Erica: You know you didn't have to get us anything. I mean, your being here with us -- that means so much more than you ever will know.
Lily: But it's really pretty. We wanted you to have it.
Erica: Well, thank you. Ok, ok.
Jack: Yeah, in that case, we'll take a look, yes.
Erica: Oh, Lily, would you put my bouquet on the table? Thank you.
Jack: Oh, for Pete’s sake, look at this.
Erica: Oh, my goodness.
Lily: It's your kismet tree. Really, it's a charcoal sketch of the Banyan tree from the ceremony.
Reggie: Yeah, we kind of consider it our official family tree now. It's -- it's funky, messy, and a little weird, but it's real. And that freaky little root down there --
Jack: This one here?
Reggie: Yeah, yeah, that -- that's Greenpea.
Erica: Oh, it's beautiful.
Jack: It's gorgeous, absolutely. Thank you both so much.
Lily: I like this tree, almost as much as I like the tree at home. When I look at it, I feel safe.
Reggie: Aw. See that? That right there -- see, that was their official mother-daughter moment. That right there. See, that's family. That's what I'm talking about.
Jack: Is that a note of pride I heard in your voice just then? Is that a little tear right there?
Reggie: I told you, Dad, yes. Yes, I did, and, yes, I'm proud. I'm not too sure about being outnumbered by the ladies, but the rest -- the rest I wanted for me. I want it for you guys. I want it for them, too. And since I got my way, you consider me off your back. But if you guys mess up, you have --
Jack: You have permission to whip us back into shape.
Erica: Oh, but you won't have to, Reggie. You have your family. We all have our family. And, yes, this is what we are, our Kane-Montgomery family is definitely funky, messy, and real. And it's here to stay.
Kendall: Come on, oh-oh-oh, blink -- blink already. Fine, be that way.
Greenlee: Where is he?
Kendall: Why don't you scare me a little more next time.
Greenlee: Yeah, you're quaking. Where is he?
Kendall: Who? What, your invisible playmate? Well, he said you bored him silly, and he jumped off a cliff.
Greenlee: Do I look amused?
Kendall: You look wiggy. Listen, it's lip-gloss touchup time before the reception, so go -- go fix your face and leave me alone.
Greenlee: Zach Slater’s here, and you're hiding him.
Kendall: You see one nice, chiseled, hot guy, and it's got to be Zach? Come on, I told you. We went through this, Greenlee. Zach is not here. I am alone, ok? So go and slam some champagne. You need it.
Greenlee: I saw him -- and, you, on the beach. And a flower. Hmm? No denial? Don't bother. I know what you two are up to. I would have said something, but I didn't want to ruin the wedding of the century. But now Erica and Jackson are married, and you've got Slater stashed somewhere. I know, because I stashed him first. In the pool house.
Kendall: Are you crazy? What is wrong with you? Is this why you freaked out when I tried to grab a towel?
Greenlee: Yeah. Nice cover. Except I know you knew. That's why you needled me outside that door. You knew Zach was in there, because you had already let him out already.
Kendall: Boy, you know, too much sun -- I think it kicked in your meds again.
Greenlee: You're hiding Slater. He came here to get you to marry him. Why else would he be slinking around?
Kendall: What? You know what, Greenlee? You have had way too much bubbly. That's just not fair. I mean, if you're going to get lit and go off, at least you could have shared.
Greenlee: Stop it, Kendall. You're messed up, and you're angry, and I've been there a lot. So let me help you. Let me stop you from making the kind of mistake that'll bite you in the rear and never let go.
Kendall: Other than me forgetting to lock the door, this is a mistake-free zone, ok? So just leave me the hell alone. I'm going to go now. I'm going to go and visit our nice newlywed couple. And if you decide to join us, let's at least pretend like we're friends.
Jack: All right. Now, to the woman I have waited for for so long.
Erica: Was it worth it?
Jack: "Was it worth it?" Come here, you. I'll show you how was it worth it.
Kendall: Aw. Cheers drink to that.
Reggie: Cheers drink to that.
Kendall: Cheers to that.
[Music plays as Jack and Erica have their first dance together as husband and wife then cut the cake and smear some frosting on each other's noses and kiss it off.]
Singer: It's not the pale moon that excites me that thrills and delights me. Oh, no it's just the nearness of you. It isn't your sweet conversation that brings this sensation. No, no it's just the nearness of you. When you're in my arms, and I feel you so close to me, all my wildest dreams come true. I need no soft lights to enchant me, but if you'll only grant me the right to hold you ever so tight and to feel in the night. Ooh, the nearness of you. When you're in my arms, and I feel you so close to me all my wildest dreams come true. I need no soft lights to enchant me, but if you'll only grant me the right to hold you ever so tight, and to feel in the night the nearness of you.
[Back at their suite, everyone has changed out of their wedding finery.]
Erica: Should we wait for Bianca?
Kendall: Well, evidently, it takes hours to pack baby gear, so --
Jack: Well, then, you're going to have to give her the update -- honeymoon 2005.
Reggie: We're going to need music and graphics, so --
Erica: I got it. We're going to take the yacht back up the coast, and we're going to stop at places like -- like Charleston, your dad's hometown, and sun and ocean and moonlight dinners on the deck.
Jack: And you. We know it isn't Italy, but we would like to make good on the invitation we extended to you all before our last wedding.
Erica: Yes! You can all come, and Bianca and Miranda, too. It'll be our first real family vacation.
Greenlee: That's so sweet.
Greenlee: Really, thank you. No.
Jack: What was the last part again?
Reggie: J, J, honeymoon. All right, let me say that last part again -- honeymoon. Does that word mean anything to you?
Kendall: Mother? People have said on rare occasions that you can be a little bit self-centered.
Greenlee: Don't lose that, not now. No tag-alongs on a vacation.
Reggie: Yeah, and I'm sure if B was here, she would say no, too.
Lily: How can you have flutters with us around?
Erica: We manage.
Jack: So that's it? Your minds are made up? Can't convince you any other way?
Jack: Gosh, I don't know -- a kid-free, flutter-filled honeymoon. Hmm.
Reggie: Yeah, it takes him a while, but he catches on.
Erica: Oh, my goodness. How will we ever fill our time?
Jack: I have some notions about that.
Erica: Oh. That means that this is good-bye. Oh.
Jack: And, you, big guy -- you're ok with this, watching after your sister and all? Greenlee and Myrtle will stop by, but you're in charge.
Jack: Sure? Yeah. Yeah?
Reggie: I got this new big brother thing down, ok? I got Lily and all my new sisters covered.
Reggie: But, you -- you remember "honeymoon."
Reggie: Say it. "Honey" -- "honeymoon."
Jack: I'll say it with you -- "honeymoon," ok, ok.
Erica: Just please promise me that you won't do anything extreme, ok? No life-altering decisions that include Zach.
Kendall: Focus, Mother, please. You have an amazing new husband on a yacht all to yourself. I mean, how great is it to be you?
Erica: Oh, it's pretty great.
Kendall: Yeah, I'd say so.
Erica: It's wonderful.
Lily: If you wait a few minutes, I can print out sea conditions and weather for coastal water travel.
Jack: Oh, I'd like that.
Lily: And if you want, I can hug you good-bye.
Jack: I'd like that very much.
Jack: And now, you -- come here. Thank you so much for everything. When we get back, you and I will sit down and we'll talk --
Greenlee: You, boat, wife, now, go.
Jack: I know, I know.
Kendall: Ok, we're done. All set. Shove off already.
Erica: Well, not just yet. I have one big surprise left.
[Down at the dock, a new yacht awaits.]
Erica: This wedding, this day -- it was all so sudden.
Erica: No, stop! I mean it! I was kidnapped. I had no fair warning. I had no time to pack a bag or pick up your wedding gift from the engraver.
Jack: Your hand in marriage, madam, is gift enough.
Erica: But I wanted to get you something. Something to say thank you, thank you for being so patient, for accepting me and for understanding me, and for throwing me over your shoulder when I get in my own way. So, I found a little bauble.
[The banner is dropped and the name of the yacht is revealed: “At Last”]
Reggie: J? J, she just got you a boat, dude. It's your boat.
Jack: I can't --
Greenlee: Oh, my gosh!
Jack: You're funny.
Erica: Well, you saved us here. You fixed us when we were broken.
Bianca: Oh, not broken -- just a little bent.
Erica: Well, if we ever get bent ever again, we have a reminder of how we belong together. And a place to stash each other until the mood passes again.
Jack: So if you ever try to leave me --
Erica: Or if you ever try to leave me --
Jack: It's anchors aweigh and lock the cabin door, right?
Erica: What do you think?
Jack: Let me show you what I think.
Kendall: Whoo-whoo! Yo, corn dog!
Lily: The sea conditions are right for departure, but you might need a light sweater onboard.
Jack: Aye, aye. Shall we?
Erica: Just -- just one second. I won't cry.
Bianca: Ok, then, neither will I.
Erica: Don't you grow up too fast before I see you again. Before long, you're going to be borrowing my shoes. I'm going to bring you a Scarlett O’Hara doll from Charleston.
Bianca: Oh, great. Just the role model I want for my daughter.
Erica: Do you have a better one in mind?
Bianca: As a matter of fact, I do. You have a wonderful honeymoon, Mom. Don't make Uncle Jack lock you up again.
Erica: Paris is so beautiful. I'm sure you can't wait to get back.
Bianca: Mom, you know I'm going to be back to visit as soon as I can.
Erica: I know. I know.
Bianca: I love you.
Erica: I love you so much.
Jack: Come here, you. Well, I'm certainly ready for the at last, and I think she's waiting for us, so --
Erica: All right.
Bianca: Have a great time, you guys.
[On board, Jack and Erica wave to their family as their yacht shoves off.]
Greenlee: Can I borrow your red Gucci while you're gone? I'll take that as a yes.
Bianca: Have fun!
>> On the next "All My Children" --
J.R. (to Amanda): You think we're pals? You were just a pity party.
Ethan: You want your wedding big or small? Here or in Pine Valley? I vote for here.
Kendall: What are you saying?
Ethan: Marry me.
