Bianca: Hey! I didn't know you were coming over.

Maggie: Well, I know that you're really upset about your shirt.

Bianca: Yeah. You know, I'm really sorry for laying into Jonathan like that. I shouldn't have been so quick to accuse him of taking it.

Maggie: It's ok. He understood.

Bianca: It's just -- I know it's just a shirt, but it was actually really important to me.

Maggie: It's the same shirt that you had on when you gave birth. I can't imagine how important it is to you.

Bianca: Yeah. And I also really wanted to help Ethan out. I mean, that shirt may be his only chance to prove that he's Mirandas cousin.

Maggie: But only if it had her DNA on it.

Bianca: Which we'll never know. It's gone, and not by accident either.

Maggie: Well, you don't know that for sure.

Bianca: Maggie, somebody has been in my house. They went through my stuff.

Maggie: Maybe you lost the shirt. Please, I've lost my keys at least twice this week.

Bianca: Look at this. There are scratches on the lock. It's been picked.

Jonathan: Hey, you ok?

Greenlee: Great, thanks. Where are the figures, post-launch?

Jonathan: No, I'm more focused on the potential baby launch, huh? Are you comfortable? Do you want --

Greenlee: Just give me an update, guys. The numbers, please? Am I in the right place? Are we not the company that launched a massive fragrance campaign -- Enchantment? Earth to Simone -- you going to play, or do you just want to cash your paycheck and go home?

Simone: I -- I can't get over you. I mean, you know, five minutes ago, you were a total outcast. Now all of a sudden, you've got it all -- a career that's hot, a husband that's hotter, and now you're talking kids.

Jonathan: Oh, yeah. Let's hear it for Uncle Jonathan, huh? Whoo!

Simone: Whoo!

Greenlee: You know what? It's just a concept. The oven is still empty.

Simone: Yeah, well, with the way your luck is running, you're going to be preggers in no time. Just kill me now.

Greenlee: Here. You want the key to happiness? Take this. Keep it.

Simone: What --

Greenlee: That ought to cheer you up. Now, can we get back to the marketing reports?

[Simone laughs]

Ethan: Look, I don't want to hurt anyone.

Kendall: Sometimes you have to? You sound like me. It sounds like something I said. I think my craziness is rubbing off on you. There's got to be some direction I can point you into, some way I can help you, catch you before you fall.

Ethan: Look, I can't blame you for this, ok? I didn't catch this craziness from your pretty head. I got this the old-fashioned way -- from my parents, whoever they may have been. Look over there. You see around the church steeple?

Kendall: Birds?

Ethan: You ever heard the expression "bats in the belfry"? Well, there you have it. You know, they say you can stun a bat by throwing a rock up into the air. The radar picks it up, they see the movement, they think it's an insect -- dinner. They smash right into it, and you end up with a loopy, stunned bat on the ground.

Kendall: So, which one are you? Are you the rock or the bat?

Ethan: I wish I knew.

Edmund: Zach Slater is Alex Cambias, Jr.? Ryan, you finally lost it.

Ryan: Just hear me out.

Aidan: It's got possibilities, Edmund.

Edmund: Come on, the idea's so far-fetched, man, it's laughable!

Ryan: No, no, no, it's not! If you just let me speak for a second --

Edmund: What -- no, I'm not going to let you consider this, all right? If you go down that path, you're just like -- it's -- it's crazy!

Ryan: So you're not even going to consider it?

Edmund: No, I'm not! Just drop it, all right?

Ryan: We can't drop it. What is wrong with you?

Maria: Don't do this. Don't take all this on yourself. Come on, Zach, come on.

Zach: I turned my brother into a monster.

Maria: No, you didn't. How could you know?

Zach: I have to take responsibility for what he did, what I did -- all of it.

Maria: No, you don't. This is not your fault. Don't do this to yourself.

Erica: Well, how cozy. I guess they ran out of rooms at the Pine Cone Motel.

Zach: Hello, Erica.

Erica: Hello, yourself. You'll forgive me if I point out that this is fairly disgusting.

Maria: Come on, don't jump to conclusions.

Erica: Ah! Yes, of course you would try to convince me that I didn't actually see what I saw. Really, Maria, in a graveyard? I mean, that's a new low for both of you.

Maria: No -- why don't you just mind your own business.

Erica: It's not enough that I have to live with this shrine to a dead rapist right near my mother's grave? Now you two turn it into some sort of a hot spot for your quickie trysts?

Zach: I don't want to fight with you.

Erica: No, of course not. What could you possibly say in your own defense? So, you see, Mom? I'm not nearly as bad as everyone thought. I mean, here's this nice Maria Santos girl just flaunting her adultery right in your face.

Zach: Hey. Let it go. This doesn't concern you.

Erica: Oh, nice try, Romeo. You're just determined to work your way through the women of Pine Valley. Well, just a little warning -- charm is really bound to wear off very soon, especially once word gets out.

Maria: Oh, please don't throw stones. Do you really want to go there, Erica? Come on, please just mind your own business and leave the rest of us alone.

Erica: Excuse me, I was trying to mind my own business. I'm here to visit my mother's grave. What's your excuse?

Zach: There's no reasoning with her. Let's go.

Maria: No, no, no, no, no. I want to speak to her alone.

Erica: Oh, this should be good.

Zach: You sure? There's something I got to do.

Erica: I can't wait to hear what you have to say.

Aidan: Come on, Ed, all right? Zach said he faked his own death. Maybe the death he was talking about was Alex Cambias, Jr. It fits.

Ryan: Let's just discuss this, ok?

Edmund: All right, let's discuss the earth being flat, ok?

Ryan: Edmund, do not insult my intelligence.

Edmund: Do not push me, all right?

Ryan: Who got to you?

Edmund: That's it. I'm out of here.

Ryan: Is it just me, or has the whole world gone completely insane?

Maggie: Wait, who are you calling?

Bianca: I'm going to call the police.

Maggie: Wait, no! You can't call the police.

Bianca: Maggie, that's what somebody does when they've been robbed, when their stuff has been rifled through by a total stranger. I mean, somebody broke into my home. If I can't be safe in my own house, then I might as well just hang it up.

Maggie: What about Greenlee? Greenlee probably still has a key. I mean, she could have borrowed your shirt.

Bianca: Oh, Maggie, I really don't think my ratty old maternity top is Greenlee's idea of haute couture.

Maggie: Oh, ok. So what will the cops think of that -- "I lost my nasty old shirt"? They're going to think that you're crazy.

Bianca: Oh, I get it. So as long as somebody only steals a little bit, they can break in whenever they want and never get punished?

Maggie: No, I'm just saying that it doesn't --

Bianca: Maggie, it wasn't a petty thief. Nobody touched my jewelry. The only thing that went missing was my shirt. Whoever took it knew that it was Ethans only tie to the Cambias fortune, and they didn't want him to make that connection.

Maggie: Ethan is the most obvious choice. With that shirt missing, the rest of us cannot prove that he is a big fat fake.

Bianca: You know what? I'm so sick of this. I really am. How many people have to get hurt, or shot like Ryan? My God, Maggie, what if I had come home when whoever it was was in my place? I mean, who knows what they would have done to me --

Maggie: No, nothing. He would never have hurt you. Please, don't call the police.

Bianca: Oh, my God. It was Jonathan, and you're covering for him.

Greenlee: Enchantment is flying off the shelves.

Jonathan: Uh -- Greenlee, you just -- you just gave Simone your wedding ring.

Greenlee: So? Wait a minute. If you thought that I meant that you could keep it, forget it, sorry, no.

Simone: Are you ok?

Greenlee: Stop asking me that.

Simone: Isn't it bad luck to take off your wedding ring?

Greenlee: Is it? Well, I wasn't thinking, so it can't possibly count. Besides, I'm not very superstitious. You know, Ryan and I saw each other the whole day of our wedding, and we are more in love now than I ever dreamed. So can we please get back to business? We've got to schedule a meeting at the factory to deal with the holiday packaging.

Ethan: I'm probably the bat. Day after day since I got into this town, I've just found myself flying into rocks. You know, every time I think I'm on to something, I find myself dead on the ground with nothing to show for my trouble but a raging headache.

Kendall: Well, you look pretty good for a guy who's been beaten up half the time.

Ethan: Did you ever think about giving up? I mean, when you first came to town, when you told the world that you were Erica Kanes daughter, did it ever occur to you that being part of a family just wasn't worth the headache or the heartache?

Kendall: Hmm. Oh, well, let me tell you. When I -- when I found my mother, I wanted to be just like her. I mean, she's -- she's really amazing. And my father -- well, my father -- that's another story. At least I only have one monster in my family. You -- you found your whole family portrait, and it's all pretty ugly.

Ethan: So what am I doing it for, a controlling, manipulative, robber-baron grandfather, a father who never knew I existed, and an uncle who committed some of the most heinous crimes known to man -- all of them dead?

Kendall: Well, you do win the prize for the most twisted family.

Ethan: So even if I prove that I have this Cambias blood in my veins, I get a ton of cash, but so what? Everybody hates my guts.

Kendall: Not everybody.

Ethan: But if I succeed, isn't it going to taste exactly like failure? What if this latest rock is just a sign, that it's about time for me to get out of town, take what little I have and leave?

Kendall: No, don't. Please, Ethan, for me.

Ethan: For your sake? I thought you were ready for me to give up the fight.

Kendall: Well, you can still stop the search for Cambias without leaving town.

Ethan: There's no reason to stay.

Kendall: Come on, Ethan, I would miss you if you took off.

Ethan: You'd get over it.

Kendall: Ok, in case you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly voted Miss Congeniality around here. I mean, other than my family, I really don't have a lot of friends. I can't afford to lose any pals.

Ethan: Listen, I'm afraid I can't help. I'm not exactly the greatest companion right now.

Kendall: Well, I think you are. You're nice, you're very smart, you know a lot about bats.

Ethan: The only bat I know anything about is the one I'd like to lay over Ryan Lavery's head, and I'm not talking a baseball bat, either. If you guys had an ounce of civility, you'd know a cricket bat is far more effective. You see, it's a nice, hard, flat wood.

Kendall: And they say our cultures can't learn from each other.

Ethan: Do you hear me? I mean, do you bloody hear me? Not long ago I was an ambitious university kid. Look at me now. I'm an obsessive maniac, ok? I can't win for losing. This Cambias name is a curse. Anyone who goes after this birthright is -- they're cast out, they're pushed off a cliff. You know, they're pelted with stones wherever they go.

Kendall: Look, why don't you just look at it as a run of bad luck, ok, something to overcome?

Ethan: Well, how do you explain my homicidal fantasies?

Kendall: As long as they just stay fantasies.

Ethan: Why can't I just be what I'm supposed to be, you know, without having to bash Ryan Lavery into playing fair?

Kendall: Ethan, chill out, ok? Chill out. You're starting to scare me a little. You sound like you're obsessing, and everyone knows that's my job.

Ethan: It's worse than that. I'm beginning to sound like my grandfather.

Ryan: I don't get it. Edmund has spent his entire life wrapping his head around more complicated theories than this. Alex, Jr. and Zach could be one and the same shouldn't have sent him off the deep end.

Aidan: There's a lot more going on.

Ryan: But he spent months trying to trip up Slater, then all of a sudden he runs for the hills. Why? Look, I know that Edmund's got his own issues with Zach, but we could be on to something big here.

Aidan: Yeah. Maybe I should go talk to him, see if I can bang some sense into that head of his.

Ryan: Well, he trusts you, that's clear.

Aidan: Well, I understand him. I mean, I really don't know how any one of us would handle what he's been through. And to live in that chair --

Ryan: I suppose I could cut him a little more slack, huh?

Aidan: Hmm. Anyway, listen, I'm going to take another look into Zach's life.

Ryan: Now that we know where to dig.

Aidan: Right. And instead of working from the present and going back, I'll work from the car crash and go forward. I mean, now we know where to dig. Maybe -- well, we'll definitely stumble across something.

Ryan: All right. You keep it under wraps, ok?

Aidan: I will.

Ryan: Stay in touch.

Erica: Maria, I have things to do. Why don't you just what it is you have to say and get it over with?

Maria: Because I'm just trying to reconcile the two Erica Kanes. There's the one -- America's sweetheart, all style and charm and grace, and then the other one -- the really mean-spirited, nasty piece of work who can best be described as rude and terminally narcissistic.

Erica: I obviously hit a nerve with you and Zach.

Maria: You know, you have so overstepped your bounds, Erica, you have absolutely no idea.

Erica: Well, I do know this. Zach and Ethan have to go.

Maria: Oh -- are you in charge now? I mean, really, I think you should go, because I seem to remember this refreshing calm around here when you were gone.

Erica: Well, one of the unfortunate side effects of my journey was that Zach Slater followed me home.

Maria: Do you really think that you had anything to do with him coming here?

Erica: Yeah, I'm convinced. I had no idea why he stuck around, however, until what I just saw. I mean, now, obviously, I know. So tell me, is Zach your former lover, current lover, future?

Maria: If you're expecting me to feed your nasty little need for gossip, forget it.

Erica: It's just ironic, that's all. I mean, for months everyone's been wondering what Zach Slater found so fascinating about Pine Valley. Well, who'd have thunk it -- the esteemed Dr. Santos-Grey so devoted to her poor husband confined to a wheelchair? My God. How could Edmund even compete?

Maria: Shut up, please! Just shut up, Erica.

Erica: Or what?

Edmund: You know, when Ryan got shot in the gut, I think he took one in the head, too.

Aidan: You know, you might as well talk to the hand, Edmund, because I'm not buying what you're selling.

Edmund: Oh, please, please. Are you're buying what he's selling?

Aidan: Listen, this is not about Ryan, and you know it.

Edmund: Don't you start with me.

Aidan: I just -- look at you, look at you earlier -- just add water and you got instant rage. This is about Maria, and I know it. It always is when you turn into a miserable sod. Now, you want to give me details, or do you want to drive somebody else out of your life?

Maria: Why are you such a bitch?

Erica: Is that what you call anyone who tells you the truth? Well, I guess you can't have any friends left.

Maria: Well, you never were a friend, so I can't really expect much from you now, can I?

Erica: Come on, Maria, why don't you just spit it out? You want me to keep my mouth shut about seeing you and Zach with your hands all over each other here in the graveyard. In fact, I bet you beg me to keep quiet.

Maria: Why would I bother? Because nobody takes you seriously anymore. Your word is completely unreliable, Erica.

Erica: Well, see, the good news for you is that I'm feeling incredibly magnanimous today. In fact, I'm ready to make a deal with you.

Maria: Are you? This ought to be good.

Erica: I will keep my lips sealed if you will get Zach and Ethan -- whoever he is -- away from my daughters.

Maria: But that -- that doesn't have anything to do with me. They're all adults.

Erica: Convince Zach to leave town and take Ethan with him.

Maria: Uh --

Erica: Don't underestimate your power, Maria. You obviously have a certain limited charm.

Maria: You know what I find really funny, actually, is your pretending to have any sort of concern for your daughters at all instead of yourself.

Erica: Bianca and Kendall are everything to me.

Maria: Really? Since when? Since Vegas? Since they were going through crisis after crisis and you were nowhere to be found?

Erica: Oh, now you have gone way too far.

Ethan: Sorry. I didn't mean to go off like that. It's just that my options are suddenly becoming very clear.

Kendall: All right, I don't like the sound of this.

Ethan: Look, what do I have to gain from smashing into rocks -- the love of my family? I hardly think so.

Kendall: Their fortune. I mean, it's the least they can do for you, even from the grave.

Ethan: I've said from day one this isn't about Cambias money.

Kendall: All right, so you walk away with nothing?

Ethan: Not at all. I have two very fine offers on the table. All I have to do is give up the fight, stop my claim to the Cambias name, and I can live a very comfortable life.

Kendall: In exchange for what?

Ethan: Well, Zach offered me a position anywhere within his company, as long as it wasn't in Pine Valley.

Kendall: All because he's friends with your father?

Ethan: He doesn't even know that I'm his pal's son for sure, but the offer's good anyway.

Kendall: All right, well, what's your other option?

Ethan: Greenlee -- straight-out buyout. You know, all I have to do is give up my claim to Cambias, my grandfather's estate, go back to being Ethan Ramsey, forget I'd ever heard the name Cambias.

Kendall: It wouldn't be so bad. You wouldn't have to walk around with a bull's-eye on your back.

Ethan: It's not a bad option.

Kendall: Sometimes the thing that makes the bat dive for the rocks is the same instinct that keeps them alive.

Ethan: But is that any way to live?

Bianca: How could you cover for Jonathan? He stole something from me that was so incredibly valuable to me, and he knew exactly what he was doing.

Maggie: Bianca, just please try to understand. He only did it to protect his brother.

Bianca: Oh, that is such bull.

Maggie: He's convinced Ethan shot him.

Bianca: Well, he's wrong.

Maggie: Bianca, I was with Jonathan at the hospital. He was horrified of losing his brother. I know how he felt. It was awful.

Bianca: How does that justify him stealing from me?

Maggie: He can't let the guy who put his brother in the hospital get away with taking away everything that his brother has.

Bianca: Oh, I see. So that means he takes away something from me instead?

Maggie: He honestly believed that he didn't have a choice. Can you just please try to understand that?

Bianca: You know what? I can almost understand what Jonathan did. What I don't understand is you. How could you lie to me?

Maggie: It was the hardest thing I ever did.

Bianca: But you did it. Why?

Maggie: Because I didn't want you to hate him.

Bianca: He means that much to you, that you would lie to me after everything that we've been through together?

Maggie: Well, Jonathan and I are falling in love.

Bianca: I want my shirt back.

Maggie: You can't have it back. I'm sorry, it's gone.

Bianca: Well, it's not gone. It's somewhere.

Maggie: It's been burned.

Bianca: I want to be alone.

Maggie: Bianca --

Bianca: Maggie, goodbye.

[Knock on door]

Bianca: Zach. What is it?

Zach: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Can you ever forgive me?

Bianca: Zach, what are you sorry about?

Zach: I wish there was some way to make up for what happened to you.

Bianca: I don't really know what you're talking about.

Zach: But it's impossible, because of what you have to live with and what he put you through, and I -- just know how ashamed I am. I should have believed you.

Bianca: What happened?

Zach: Well, it sunk in. It finally sunk in. Michael -- Michael changed. He turned into a monster, and I wouldn't see it.

Bianca: Well, you weren't here.

Zach: You told me, over and over again. But the man that you described to me is not the Michael that I remember. He was a good kid, you know? He -- he was a good kid. He was kind and caring, smart, and something happened to him that just twisted him all around, and he lost touch with what's right and wrong.

Bianca: Well, people change. Time changes people. I mean, I'm certainly not who I was two years ago.

Zach: But your heart doesn't change. And Michael became someone that I wouldn't even recognize.

Bianca: I know that this has got to be really painful.

Zach: Dealing with his death was painful. Facing what he did to you --

Bianca: You should know that I really appreciate what you're saying to me.

Zach: Well, I got to do something. I got to do something to make this up to you.

Bianca: What Michael did shouldn't be your burden.

Zach: My own behavior is. You're an incredible woman, Bianca, and I treated you badly, and there's got to be some penance for that.

Bianca: Well, maybe there is something that you can do. My shirt is gone -- for good. But I would really love to help Ethan somehow prove who he is. If there's any way that you could help us out with that, I would be really appreciative.

Zach: I -- I can't do that. I'm sorry. Truthfully? I'm sorry -- I'm glad your shirt is gone, because now Ethan can leave before he wrecks his life and turns into some version of the man he calls his uncle.

Bianca: Where does it say that Ethan has to turn out like Michael?

Zach: Oh, you still don't believe in the Cambias curse, do you?

Bianca: No, I don't. I mean, if I did, what would that have made my daughter? No, I think that Ethan is just -- he's searching for what's rightfully his.

Zach: He thinks a lot of you. Maybe you can convince him to leave town before he turns into a Cambias.

Bianca: How can he turn into a Cambias unless he already is one? Zach, is there something that you know that you're not telling us?

Edmund: You forget what I'm about to tell you.

Aidan: I made a career about forgetting what I know. I'm an expert.

Edmund: If Ryan's theory is right, that Zach Slater is Alex Cambias, Jr., that begs the question, what did my wife know and when did she know it?

Aidan: Do what?

Edmund: There is no way she could know something like this and not tell me, all right? She would not keep a secret from me like that, to protect somebody like Slater at the expense of the rest of us. I mean, it is -- it is impossible, which is why I don't want to hear another word about it.

Aidan: Listen, Edmund, I'm not saying that Maria --

Edmund: My wife is not a disloyal liar.

Aidan: I hear you. I'll keep in touch.

Maria: You can flash that dazzling smile and gear up that whole PR machine so that maybe the rest -- maybe the rest of America will buy that "superstar glamour mommy of the year" thing. But I know differently, because I was here and I saw Bianca and Kendall, and I know what they went through, and "meltdown" does not even begin to cover what those poor girls went through.

Erica: Oh. And good mommies like you have affairs in graveyards close to home?

Maria: You know what? I can promise you one thing. Even if you did convince me to get rid of every man in town that you don't like, it wouldn't begin to cover the damage that you have already done.

Erica: Oh, you don't have the first clue.

Maria: Oh, my God, this is all about you. It's all about you. You have raised narcissism to a whole new level.

Erica: No, Maria, this is about a good man. This is about my dear friend Edmund.

Maria: Oh, my God. Really? Oh, that makes for the perfect little greeting card. Really, your rich history of friendship with my husband? But don't forget to add the little verse about borrowing our child.

Erica: Oh, you want to fight dirty, I'll be happy to oblige.

Maria: I find it very interesting, actually, that we're having this discussion here, because you leave a trail of corpses everywhere you go, and I'm not going to allow you to do that with Edmund and put him on your list.

Erica: Excuse me? You are such a hypocrite. You're the one who betrayed Edmund, and clearly you're about to do it again.

Maria: No, you're not going to do -- you're not going to wreck my marriage like you wrecked my sister's.

Erica: Bobby stood by me because he wanted to, because he cared about me.

Maria: But not nearly as much as you care about you, because it's all about you. It's all about you and what you want and what you need.

Erica: I have friends who stand by me.

Maria: You have friends that you drag down with you, that fall on their swords trying to prove that they're worthy of any little tiny crumb that you happen to throw their way, and then when the dust clears, no one's ever quite the same.

Roberta: I love it -- nothing but good news.

Ryan: All right, team, what's going on?

Jonathan: Hey. Roberta here has nothing but good news from marketing.

Roberta: America loves Enchantment.

Jonathan: So we're going to start playing up all the components of the fragrance. We said citrus --

Roberta: Mm-hmm.

Jonathan: Jasmine --

Roberta: Right. Vanilla, sandalwood --

Ryan: Sounds very nice. Sounds like you're on top of this.

Roberta: Smell me -- I'm wearing it.

Ryan: Hmm.

Simone: Hey -- that's my line.

Ryan: Mmm. Smells very nice.

Roberta: Thank you.

Ryan: All right. Has anyone seen my wife?

Simone: Yeah. She's in the back. Well, did you do anything to Greenlee when you were on your honeymoon?

Ryan: God, I hope so, and because I'm a gentleman, that's all I'm going to say to you.

Simone: Oh, that's gross. You're married.

Greenlee: Look at this poor thing, all sad and droopy. I got to it just in time.

Simone: Greenlee, you don't like plants. Yeah, you throw them out as soon as they run out of water.

Greenlee: Well, this one was on its very last leaves. Hi!

Ryan: Hi.

Greenlee: I'm saving a life.

Ryan: Oh. Well, come talk to me.

Greenlee: Well, do you mind if I perform CPR on this sweet little fern while I listen? Hmm?

Jonathan: Hey, Green, did you grab those figures for me I asked you for?

Greenlee: Yeah. Yeah, they were just in my hand -- then I heard this plant calling out for help. They're in the back on the table.

Jonathan: Ok.

Greenlee: Thanks.

Ryan: Hey -- Aidan is checking into Slaters connection to Alex Cambias, Jr. as we speak.

Greenlee: Well, I get it. I just wish this whole thing would go away.

Ryan: Now that we're on top of this, it's not going to take very long, ok? Now, listen, Aidan and Edmund know, but nobody else can, not even Jonathan. If word gets out, we'll find out nothing. Do you understand?

Greenlee: I got it.

Ryan: Ok.

[Elevator doors open]

Ryan: Heads up.

Ethan: Lavery. It's time to end this war.

Erica: I've really had enough.

Maria: No, if you try to ruin my marriage, Erica, you will regret it with every useless fiber of your being.

Erica: Empty threats. I'm bored now.

[Edmund envisions himself rising from his wheelchair to confront his nemesis.]

Edmund: The truth, Slater -- who the hell are you?

Zach: What does it matter?

Edmund: It matters if you're a liar. It matters if you poison everyone you touch. It matters if you betray and deceive without a conscience. You're lower than the landfill where Michael Cambias is rotting. And when Maria finds out who you really are, there'll only be one thing left for you to do.

Zach: I'll fight for her.

Edmund: I'll be ready. And when you leave Pine Valley, you're going to wish you never picked that fight. I'm going to come after you with everything I've got.

[Vision over, Edmund's back in his wheelchair.]

Edmund: With everything I've got.

Zach: Ethan is a troubled kid with a pointless mission.

Bianca: He wants to find out who he is. That's not pointless.

Zach: Ok, but there's no way to find out, so now it's time to walk away.

Bianca: Walk away from his birthright? That's not so easy.

Zach: I didn't say it was easy. Sometimes it's necessary. I saw firsthand what Michael and Alex had to suffer through. The Cambias name, the bank accounts, the legacy -- all of it toxic. And if Alex was still alive and he knew he had a son, he would try to save him from that. So now it's up to me to make sure it doesn't happen again, even to a fraud. It's the least I can do.

Bianca: You've been really honest with me, and you said that you wanted to do something for me. Well, this is something -- why don't you tell me why saving Ethan has become your personal crusade?

Zach: My crusade to save Ethan may seem odd to you, but I got to tell you, I have the best of intentions. Alex Cambias and I were closer than you think.

Bianca: I believe you, but I can't really agree with you. I mean, people are evil and toxic and cruel, not things. The Cambias fortune is no more cursed than you are. I mean, if what you say were true, that would mean Ryan would have turned to the dark side by now.

Zach: You sure he hasn't?

Bianca: Ryan is happy, and he's a good man. In your version, the money that he gave to the Miranda Center was printed by the devil himself.

Zach: You can't imagine people that you love turning evil. But it happens, trust me. And if Ryan doesn't let go of the Cambias money, he will fall. I guarantee it.

Ryan: I am sure you'd love to have a fascinating little war council again, but I have about three hours' worth of phone calls I need to return as well as two reports that I need to read.

Ethan: It's a shame that your priorities are as screwed up as the rest of your thinking.

Ryan: Cambias Industries is my priority, and by the way, that's good news for you if you ever get around to proving yourself a Cambias. Meanwhile, I'd be happy to meet with you after our staff meeting tomorrow. Jonathan?

Kendall: Maybe we should just come back tomorrow.

Ethan: Could you give me a moment alone with Greenlee?

Kendall: Fine.

Ethan: So, tell me something about your husband.

Greenlee: He's devoted to this company.

Ethan: Does he have to be such a sod about it?

Greenlee: You make it real hard to like you, Ethan. Why don't you just go away and leave us all alone.

Maria: It's awfully dark in here. Can you see anything?

Edmund: I'm not sure I can see anything in the light, either.

Maria: What do you mean? What's wrong?

Ethan: I'm going to make your wish come true, Greenlee. I will be out of your hair before you know it.

Greenlee: Good choice.

Ethan: You know, all I ever wanted were a few simple answers.

Greenlee: You've come to the wrong people for them. You should have gone to Zach Slater. He would have given you all of them. He's Alexander Cambias, Jr.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Erica: So whether you stay or go is up to me?

Zach: Whatever you want, however badly you want it.

Edmund: Maria, you said there was an emergency. Is there anything that you want to tell me?

Ethan: Is what Greenlee said true? Is my father alive and well and living in Pine Valley?
