Ryan: Hey, I don't know what we're waiting for. We have, like, a million things we got to start doing.

Greenlee: Hold on.

Ryan: It's time to start living every moment like it's our honeymoon, all right, because guess what -- starting right now, it is, and I want you to start thinking big because we have a private jet at our disposal. Now, personally, I'm partial to this little town on the Amalfi coast -- it's Positano. It's beautiful. There's this hotel -- you don't like the sound of it.

Greenlee: I love the sound of it.

Ryan: Ok, so then what's the problem?

Greenlee: There will be no honeymoon until you tell me.

Ryan: Ok. I love you. Now, if you feel like tropical, there's this --

Greenlee: Nice try, Lavery. You just had an epiphany about Zach Slater, and no one's leaving this room until you tell me what it is.

Ethan: Fill in the blanks, Slater. Why are you helping me? What don't I know? Is there more dirt on my uncle? Because nothing anybody says about him is going to surprise me anymore.

Zach: This isn't about Michael. It's about his brother.

Ethan: My father?

J.R.: Bess -- where's Bess? Did -- did you take her? Is she with you?

Stuart: No, no, she's still at her outing, I guess. She'll be back soon.

J.R.: What outing?

Stuart: Her ma and her godmother.

J.R.: You let them take her? What are you thinking?

Stuart: I trust Babe. I told her it was ok.

J.R.: What?

Stuart: Now, she'll be back soon. You'll see.

J.R.: No, are you out of your mind? You can't trust them! Huh? You hear me? Do you realize what you've done? Where the hell is my baby?

Jamie: Bianca told me what she overheard you say when you were with Hayward and your mom. Is this the son you were talking about?

Babe: Yes. This is him. I asked you to trust me.

Bianca: Yes. We would see that everything would work out, right?

Babe: And I need you to continue trusting me, both of you. Look, I know what I'm doing. I swear I do.

Jamie: Yeah, but this baby is --

Babe: Yeah, this baby --

[Baby fusses]

Babe: This baby is -- is Ace Buchanan, and his dad is Kevin Buchanan. And that woman over there, that's his nanny. Look, Bianca, I don't know what you thought that you -- that you heard, but what I said -- or what I meant to say -- was that if I had a son, it would -- it would be this little boy. Yes, it would. And I was telling Bianca about him. He's so amazing. Didn't you see it?

Bianca: I did. And you should've seen the two of them playing together. Jamie, they lit up the whole park.

Babe: And -- and seeing Ace, it made me change my mind about everything. He's the reason that I got back with J.R.

Jamie: He's a little young to be twisting your arm, Babe.

Babe: Look, when I got lost and I ended up in Llanview at the Palace Hotel, I --

[Baby fusses]

Babe: I saw Ace here and his daddy. And this baby -- I just -- I couldn't resist. He was so cute. But anyway, I -- I got to talking with his daddy, and it turns out he's going through this messy divorce, too. And Kevin was saying how he proved that his wife, Kelly, was an unfit mother, and it turned out he got full custody.

[Baby cries]

Babe: It's ok. And that's when I just saw my own life flash right before my eyes. You guys, we all know what J.R.'s capable of and how mega-connected the Chandlers are.

Bianca: Yes, but, Babe, you're not an unfit mother.

Babe: Yeah, but, Bianca, I can't let them take my baby away from me for good. I mean, seeing this little guy, it just -- I don't even know, it just made everything so crystal clear. I knew what I had to do.

J.R.: I'm sorry, I -- I didn't mean to do that. I'm just -- I'm a little freaked out, I guess, that's all.

Stuart: Well, I'm a little freaked out, too, J.R. You used to be the brightest hope of this family. What's happening to you?

J.R.: I just want my daughter home, safe. I -- is -- what's so hard to understand about that?

Stuart: I'm telling you she will be home perfectly safe!

J.R.: You don't know that! You don't know!

Stuart: Babe gave me her word.

J.R.: I -- it's so funny because the other day when I came to get Bess, you wouldn't give her to me.

Stuart: I didn't trust you to bring her back. I'm sorry if that hurt your feelings.

J.R.: You shouldn't have let Babe take her, after all the times she's betrayed me?

Stuart: Well, what about you? What -- all -- all the stuff you've done to Babe?

J.R.: Hey, hey, hey, whose side are you on, anyway?

Stuart: I'm on Bess' side, and I wish you were, too! But if you keep acting like your dad, like your father, then -- then one of these days Bess is not going to come home. It'll break your heart, but Bess will be gone for good. Just like Liza and Colby.

J.R.: What are you talking about? What do you -- what do you mean, Liza and Colby?

Adam: People don't just vanish! She was supposed to bring my daughter over here this morning. Completely cleaned out? Colby's things, too? Where is my daughter? No, shut up! I don't care what it costs, I don't care what it takes. You find Liza and you bring my daughter back here to me!

Ryan: Can't our honeymoon take priority right now, please?

Greenlee: There is no honeymoon if there's a secret between us.

Ryan: I just don't want to get into this right now.

Greenlee: I don't care. Just tell me. I'm ready.

Ryan: All right, sit down. Ah. I'm thinking about a car accident that happened a long time ago. Big fire. Heat so intense that it totally incinerated the body, not a trace left.

Greenlee: My God, you think? Is it even possible?

Ryan: It would make sense of a lot of stuff. I mean, we already know that Slater isn't who he says he is.

Greenlee: But if it's true, that means that Zach Slater is

Ethan: My father? What about my father?

Zach: I knew Alex and Michael. Many years ago we were close.

Ethan: And until this moment you, what, forgot to mention it?

Zach: Didn't see a purpose.

Ethan: You dirty son of -- that day at the cemetery, you were standing in front of Michael's gravesite for a reason. You could've told me then. You could've told me dozens of times!

Zach: I didn't know who you were.

Ethan: I told you who I was.

Zach: You said you were a Cambias. Why would I believe you? You could've been anybody just looking for money.

Ethan: And no one said a word?

Zach: No one else knew. And I think you figured out by now that having a connection to anything Cambias is not a way to make friends in Pine Valley. And I have business here.

Ethan: Why tell me now, hmm? Your business all taken care of?

Zach: Now I believe you. That still leaves you in the lurch.

Ethan: But you believe I'm a Cambias?

Zach: I feel for you. You show up here with nothing to -- to prove your claim, and now you're getting sucked into something that's going to leave you miserable no matter how it ends.

Ethan: If I had proof, it would solve everything.

Zach: If you had proof, it would start something that you can't even begin to imagine. I knew Alex. And I know what being a Cambias did to him. That name is poison.

Ethan: Do I remind you of him? Am I anything like Alex Cambias?

Zach: Yes and no. But whether you're his son or not, I'm going to make sure you don't end up like him.

J.R.: Dad -- there you are.

Adam: Liza and Colby have disappeared. They're nowhere to be found.

J.R.: They're gone -- for good.

Adam: Nobody does anything for good.

J.R.: No, Stuart told me.

Adam: Stuart knew about this? Where are they, Stuart?

Stuart: Uh -- I don't know because I wouldn't let her tell me.

Adam: Stuart, I need to know where Liza has hidden Colby.

Stuart: They're not hiding, Adam, they're gone. New names, new town -- you're not going to be able to track them.

Adam: You forget who I am.

Stuart: No, no, I don't forget. You're the guy who -- well, who lost Hayley and Skye and -- and Brooke and J.R. -- until he finally found his way back to us -- and now Liza and Colby are just -- well, just the latest ones. You pushed them and pushed them until they had no choice. You -- you drove them away, Adam, the way you do everyone you love! You've done it all your life! Now you're trying to teach J.R. to be the same!

Adam: You are so naive. There's not a thing that Colby has needed that I haven't provided.

Stuart: As long as she was young enough to play by your rules.

Adam: How could you do this to me? You've turned on your own brother. You should've told me, you should've warned me. Instead, you helped them steal my child! Do you get it? Do you understand how you betrayed me?

Stuart: Ok, I'm -- I'm -- I feel bad that you're feeling bad, Adam. I really -- I feel bad, too, because I love Liza, and I'm going to miss Colby so much, and my own wife, Marian -- she's -- her heart is broken. She's lost her daughter and her granddaughter. She had to lose them so they could be free of you. She -- she's been crying all day long, but I'm glad I didn't stop her. Because this had to end someplace. Right, J.R.?

J.R.: Well, let's just hope that Babe's not planning the same thing that Liza did.

Stuart: Well, not yet, no. But she could if you take this any farther. J.R., I -- you used to be so happy with Babe. You -- you were so much in love. it made my heart glad just to see you. But if you don't stop, you're going to end up just like Adam. You're going to be hiring strangers to -- to hunt for people you're supposed to love. But you got to stop soon, or you're going to lose Bess for good -- just the way Adam's lost Colby.

Adam: I have not lost Colby. Now, get out before I say something I'll regret.

Stuart: You already did. That's why they're gone.

Adam: Shut up, and get out!

J.R.: You know, you didn't have to yell at him like that. He was just telling you the truth.

Babe: So, now, answer my question, Jamie. What are you doing here?

Jamie: I volunteered for Kevin Buchanans campaign. I was stuffing envelopes when I saw you guys leaving, and I was just wondering what you were doing here in Llanview.

Babe: You're a campaign volunteer?

Jamie: This is an important election. I'm just doing my civic duty.

Babe: So, you guys have been talking behind my back, comparing notes?

Bianca: Oh, Babe, it's only because we care about you. You would've done the exact same thing. I mean, after you went back to J.R. after everything that he had done to you? Babe, we were just a little concerned, ok?

Babe: And now you get it. I explained everything about little Ace here and how he made me see everything. Makes sense now, right?

Bianca: Makes a little more sense, yeah.

Jamie: Actually, a lot more is making sense, Babe, especially after I went to the chapel.

[Baby fusses]

Babe: The chapel? What chapel?

Jamie: The one in the woods near the river. The little chapel that you're helping to rebuild in memory of the baby that died.

Ryan: We always suspected a Cambias connection in the murder game. I mean, if I'm right, if he's Alexander, Jr., then he probably sees me as the thief that stole the entire fortune from his little brother, Michael.

Greenlee: You're right, it's a wild idea.

Ryan: Maybe not.

Greenlee: But why would he care who got what? Alexander faked his death all that time ago and walked away from his family.

Ryan: I don't know.

[Ryan groans]

Ryan: Maybe there was, like, a nasty little secret that he could only erase by wiping the slate clean, or maybe it was just a way to escape a sick, twisted family.

Greenlee: Well, you knew the old man. Was he that big of a monster?

Ryan: I wasn't raised by him. They're always more charming when you're not related and they're on their deathbed. Or maybe you're right, maybe it's just a crazy theory.

Greenlee: Your words, not mine.

Ryan: So then why don't we just set it up for target practice and try and shoot holes through it?

Greenlee : You start.

Ryan: Ok. Maybe Slaters just an old friend of Michael's, like Edmund said. Maybe our first instinct -- maybe he's just a con artist.

Greenlee: Or maybe you've come up with the truth about Zach. I can keep an open mind.

Ryan: What if I'm right? What do we do with it?

Ethan: My father died in a car accident. It's public record.

Zach: Alex was running. He was running from a father who wanted to make him into something he didn't want to be, trying to escape a birthright so that you are so eager to claim. I'm not a superstitious man, but the Cambias legacy is a curse. That's what drove Alex away, and that's what killed him.

Ethan: What about my mother? Did you know her, too?

Zach: I met Hannah a few times, yeah, when he was working as a maid.

Ethan: What was she like?

Zach: She was sweet, pretty, and very bright.

Ethan: And they were sleeping together?

Zach: He never said anything to anyone. And if she was pregnant, he didn't know.

Ethan: Someone had to know something.

Zach: I want to give you some advice, and I think it's the same advice that Alex would give you. Don't do this. Just give up on this. Old man Cambias was the devil himself. So run like Alex tried to run before it's too late.

Adam: Don't let Stuart get to you, J.R. He's like a greeting card -- all sweetness and bad poetry.

J.R.: What are you saying, Dad? Is there no truth to what he said? Is that it?

Adam: Oh, it would be wonderful if we could all live in Stuarts happy little world, hmm? But where we reside -- I think it's called reality -- things are a lot more dangerous. Around every corner there's another dog waiting to gobble up the Stuarts of the world. But you already know that. You knew it, and you were right. I shouldn't blame Stuart. It's not his fault I lost Colby. The blame for that rests solely on Liza's shoulders -- and whoever helped her. Don't tell me your uncle's gotten to you.

J.R.: Maybe a little. Maybe the sins of the father really are visited on the son.

Babe: I'm sorry, I -- um -- I -- I don't know how to --

Bianca: Babe, it's ok. I know about the chapel.

Babe: You do?

Bianca: Yes. And I think it's such a wonderful thing that you did for Miranda -- creating a memorial for her. You're so sweet, you have such a big heart, and I -- I value your friendship, and I don't know why you didn't think that you could tell anybody about it.

Babe: It was -- um -- it was private. I wanted -- I wanted to do it quietly. How did you know, Jamie?

Jamie: I traced your route from the night you got lost.

Babe: Why would you do that?

Jamie: Well, I had to know what made you turn from "I hate J.R." to "leave me and my marriage alone." You made a detour somewhere along the way -- the chapel.

Babe: And how did -- how did you know that it was --it was for the baby?

Jamie: I met the minister. We talked. You were so upset, he actually thought that it was for your own baby that you were doing this.

Bianca: Well, of course she was upset. Babe and I were the -- the only people who got to spend those few moments with Miranda when she was alive. You brought my baby into the world. You treated her as if she were your own. I'll never forget how wonderful you were.

Babe: No, Bianca -- I am so not wonderful. I -- what I did at the chapel, that's -- that's not nearly enough. The only thing that would ever mean anything is if I could figure out a way to bring you your baby back.

Bianca: Well, we both know that's impossible. You can't bring Miranda back to me.

J.R.: I'm just trying to think about my daughter. Maybe she needs a mom. I mean, I know how much Babe has lied, but she always seems to put Bess first.

Adam: You're learning this lesson backwards. You understand that? What's happened with Liza and Colby is your wake-up call, friend. I caved, I compromised. I believed them when they said we could -- this could all be amicably resolved. Wrong! You give -- women like that are not to be trusted. You give them an inch, and they'll take your child. If you're even thinking about cutting Babe some slack --

J.R.: You know, I don't -- I don't know what I'm thinking.

Adam: Well, then let me remind you what you were feeling when you realized Babe had taken your daughter out of here. That knot in your stomach -- ignore it at your peril. You give them custody, they will poison your child's mind against you and skip town. Yeah, well, I'm telling you to fight with everything you've got. You won't be alone, I'll be right there behind you. But you get hold of that girl and you hold on to her tight. Whatever it takes.

Babe: That day at the cabin when Miranda was born, it was both the most amazing day and -- and the most horrible day of my life. And you shared your little girl with me. And that was such an amazing gift, and I -- I didn't realize how special it was till much later.

Bianca: Well, you know I couldn't have made it without you.

Babe: Maybe we would've had a chance if something evil hadn't come up there. If I wouldn't have called Paul Cramer.

Bianca: Babe, it's not your fault.

Babe: Paul wrecked everything. He -- he ruined it for us. And believe me, if there was anything that I could do to fix that, Bianca, I would go to hell and back to make your dream a reality. It's all I -- it's all I ever dreamed of.

Bianca: Babe, let me do something to thank you.

Babe: Thank me?

Bianca: Yes, thank you for the wonderful thing that you did for Miranda -- creating that memorial for her. I mean, you're still taking care of her after all this time, and I want to go see this chapel.

Babe: No, not -- not yet. It's not finished, but -- but soon, I promise. What else did the minister say?

Jamie: Only that you obviously loved the baby very much.

Babe: And that's it? Because, Jamie, if he said anything else, I really need to know. I've got to be careful here if I want things to work out. I can't give J.R. any ammo. You understand that, don't you? I can't risk it.

Bianca: You know, sometimes I forget all the things that I can do to keep a piece of Miranda alive.

Karen: I am so, so sorry that took so long. I'm sorry.

Babe: Oh, don't even worry about it. It's not a problem. How's your mom?

Karen: She's ok. She's out of surgery.

Babe: Good.

Karen: It looks good. Yeah.

Babe: Good.

Karen: So now I got to get this little guy, Ace, back to his daddy.

Babe: Ok, little guy. Well, I guess you got to go. Hey, you be a real good boy until I see you again. It's going to be over soon, I promise.

Karen: Bye.

Jamie: Babe?

Babe: Bye.

[Baby fusses]

Bianca: Yes, say goodbye .

Babe: You know, I --

Bianca: Say goodbye.

Babe: I should probably head back, too, with Bess. J.R.'s probably sent the FBI out for us.

Bianca: Ok.

Babe: What do you say?

Bianca: Sure. You know, there's something that I need to do. Here you go, ok, back to Mama.

Ethan: What was that whole murder game about?

Zach: I was hoping that Michael's real killer would slip up and admit what happened.

Ethan: Bianca Montgomery killed my uncle in self-defense after he came back to rape her.

Zach: No, someone else was involved.

Ethan: What does it matter now? My uncle was slime.

Zach: Michael was not the monster that everyone makes him out to be, and I'm sorry you won't have a chance to find that out for yourself.

Ethan: Where does Lavery fit in?

Zach: Lavery is a self-serving, arrogant ass. But I didn't try to kill him.

Ethan: Then who did? You think it was me.

Zach: I don't care who tried to kill him. I don't care if he lives or dies, because as far as I'm concerned, it's part of the Cambias curse.

Ethan: I don't believe there's a curse.

Zach: I know you don't, so I'm going to offer you something. I'm going to offer you a job and a career -- here if you want with me, in Vegas -- anywhere in the world. You name the place.

Ethan: But at what price?

Zach: Give up what you're doing. Let go of everything Cambias.

Ethan: Why are you helping me, Zach?

Zach: Because I saw what happened to Alex. I don't want that to happen to you. So get out of Pine Valley before the people that want to hurt you succeed.

Greenlee: Do you think Ethan knows that Zach is his father?

Ryan: Well, if he does, he's not giving anything away.

Greenlee: I don't understand. Why would Zach keep it a secret? I mean, he could prove that the guy is his son with one simple test, and they could both be something pretty on the Cambias forte.

Ryan: Yeah. Well, you see, that's the big hole in my theory right now. I don't know why he's not making his move, especially since I gave Ethan my word that if he is the real deal, I'd give him everything.

Greenlee: So, maybe Ethan is a fraud, maybe he has a nasty little secret.

Ryan: Like the two of them working together?

Greenlee: Well, if anyone can take them on, it's you.

Ryan: Well, I'll be ready.

Greenlee: But at what cost, Ryan? That's what scares me. What if they finish the job that they messed up before?

Ryan: Come here. This is our little secret here. Nobody else has to know about this.

Greenlee: Yeah, but it's like hitting a hornets' nest. We could get stung -- or worse. It could be dangerous.

Ryan: So could leaving the hospital and crossing the street, Greenlee.

Greenlee: Hmm.

Ryan: This is too big. I can't just ignore it.

Greenlee: We. We can't ignore it. I'm not just going to sit by and let you handle this all yourself.

Ryan: Ok. I like it. So let's go to what we know. We know that Kendall and Zach were there at the police station helping Ethan out.

Greenlee: Zach offered to hire a lawyer when he thought they were going to charge him.

Ryan: Which, you know, was trying to help the kid out, which would make sense if he was, you know, Ethans father.

Greenlee: Except we're pretty sure Ethan has no idea because --

Ryan: Because he wouldn't be hell-bent on proving his lineage if he knew the evidence was just standing there right in front of him.

Greenlee: So where do you want to start? With Ethan?

Ryan: Um -- no. With this.

Ethan: Why would I take your advice?

Zach: Because I'm trying to help you.

Ethan: You've been lying to me since you walked on my uncle's grave. You pretended that you didn't even know my family, and now you think just because you offered me, what, a lawyer and a job that I'm going to do a complete 180? Well, I'm sorry, but I don't give up that easy, and I certainly don't give up because you tell me that it's best.

Zach: What are your options?

[Knock on door]

Zach: Come on in.

Bianca: Ah, there you are. I finally tracked you down.

Stuart: J.R., she's back. I told you she'd be home.

J.R.: Finally.

Stuart: J.R.? Would you try to think about what I said?

J.R.: All right.

Stuart: Adam, I know -- I know -- I know you're in pain and I'm so sorry, I really am. The last time I saw you hurting like this was -- well, just after Lottie died. I -- I used to think that you were the way you are because you were trying to protect us, because that's what you said, you were -- somebody had to protect the family. But after all the years have passed and so many more people that we love have left, I'm beginning to suspect that -- well, it's -- it's what you're all about. I know you say it's for our own good and -- and maybe you even believe that, but I think -- I think it's yourself you're trying to protect. Just yourself because you're scared. I -- I used to think maybe I could change that. But I think it's too late. There's just one thing left to say. I -- please leave J.R. alone. Don't take him down in that deep, dark place that you live in. The boy still has half a chance.

Babe: Who's the sweetest? Oh, yes, you're so sweet. You're so sweet.

[Babe giggles]

Babe: Yes.

J.R.: So, where were you?

Babe: We were at the park. Yes.

J.R.: What are you trying to pull, taking her out of the house like that?

Babe: It was a girls' day out. And it was too beautiful of a day to let anyone ruin that.

J.R.: Yeah, well, that's ok. I'll go ahead and take care of her from here now, all right?

Babe: If you want, but I -- I was planning on feeding her and changing her and giving her a bath. I -- I thought that maybe you could -- you could do the reading the story and tucking her in, but, I mean, if you want to do all that, I'm just as fine doing the bedtime --

J.R.: Don't ever take her out of this house without checking with me first. Do you understand me?

Babe: Come here. We will just see about that, won't we, baby? Yeah.

Greenlee: Ok, be straight with me. This is your way of letting me down easy. We're delaying the honeymoon, right? Go ahead, say it.

Ryan: Over my dead body. Ha -- ok, not funny. Listen to me. All this -- all this stuff about Slater, it's just a distraction. You and I are the main focus here.

Greenlee: Swear?

Ryan: You let me get out of here and I'll prove it to you.

Greenlee: Italy?

Ryan: You know what? I've been having second thoughts about Italy. I want to -- I want to go someplace where absolutely nobody can find us, someplace that we can skinny-dip in our own private grotto.

Greenlee: Hmm.

Ryan: We can have cocktails on the lanai, feed each other fruit that we peeled ourselves.

[Greenlee giggles]

Ryan: You know what I mean? Warm sun, warm breezes. Someplace I can finally taste your skin and kiss your lips and I can make love to you until --

Greenlee: Mm-hmm. But what about --

Ryan: Whatever people are plotting is going to have to wait, all right, because I -- I almost checked out of this world without making love to my wife. If I go another 24 hours, I am going to explode. Come here.

Bianca: I'm sorry to interrupt. It's just that Kendall told me that I might still find you here.

Ethan: How can I help you, Bianca?

Bianca: Maybe I can help you. So Ethan, I've been thinking a lot about my baby today. My friend Babe has created a memorial for Miranda. It just seems like everybody's so trying so hard to keep her memory alive. And then I thought about you. What if you really are -- were my baby's cousin? And I know how much it means for you to find out for certain who you are. And if Miranda can give you that gift, then -- what I'm trying to say is I think I have what you need to prove that you're a Cambias.

Adam: Well, what's it going to be, J.R.? You going to cut and run or stand and fight?

J.R.: I know exactly what has to be done.

Babe: We got to be really careful right now. I'm going to tell you a secret. You know today at the park when I saw Ace and Jamie together? I said a secret little prayer that God would see fit to make Jamie -- to make Jamie that little boy's daddy. Wouldn't that be the perfectly happy ending? It'd be you back in your mama's arms, and Ace with me and Jamie? You think it's too much to hope for? Hey, let's just say a little prayer that that's exactly how it turns out. Yes.

Woman: Here's a copy of that staff list you asked for.

Jamie: Thanks.

Woman: I'd vote for Buchanan just because he's good-looking.

Second Woman: Wow, no kidding. There's something about a gorgeous, single guy with an adorable baby -- total chick magnet.

First Woman: Mm-hmm. If I weren't married, I'd seriously make a move, especially now since he dumped his basket-case wife.

Second Woman: Ugh. Have you met her brother? Major sleaze. If I have to hear one more time about how he's this big helicopter pilot --

First Woman: Mm-hmm.

Second Woman: The guy's a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen.

First Woman: Mm-hmm. Kevin was smart to dump Kelly just to get rid of Paul Cramer as a brother-in-law.
