Babe's voice: There you go. What set you off again, little man? How's that?

Babe: Well, how about that, huh?

Kevin: You are officially the patron saint of stressed-out parents.

[Ace coos]

Kevin: Yeah, right.

Babe: Oh.

Kevin: Yeah, you think so?

Babe: We just hit it off, didn't we, Ace? Yes, we are simpatico. My little boy -- he's alive. Jamie.

Jamie: I'm sorry, Babe. I didn't mean to scare you.

Babe: What are you doing back here?

Jamie: Just checking up on you and Bess.

Babe: You're so sweet. Like I told you before, you need to back off. My plans are all set.

Jamie: You talking travel plans? Making a return trip to Llanview?

Krystal: Looking for a star to make a wish on?

Kelly: Who are you? What are you doing here?

Krystal: I'm here to talk to you about your baby.

[Maria sighs]

Maria: Are you catching up on my paperwork in the dark?

Zach: I'm here to apologize. I was rude and dismissive.

Maria: Well, you had your reasons. I've been -- I've been pretty pushy lately trying to get you to accept what Michael became, and -- and I know how much you love him, and I know that that's not going to be easy to get over.

Zach: When I love someone, I love them for life.

Aidan: Here you go. Are you all right?

Kendall: Aidan, I need you to say that again. Say that again about me and Ryan.

Aidan: You didn't shoot Ryan, Kendall. You didn't shoot him.

Kendall: But I did do it. I had the gun. I aimed it at him. I pulled the trigger.

Aidan: Look, listen, you fired a blank, ok? Ballistics say that the bullet they took out of Ryan's gut came from a high-powered rifle. You are not the shooter. So, Ethan, how close were you when Ryan was shot?

Greenlee: You know I'm not exactly a morning person. While you bound out of bed to hit the floor for 100 pushups, I'm hitting the snooze button. I mean, you try and coach me awake. "Come on, Mrs. Dynamite Kiddo, got to save the world before breakfast." Or "rise and shine, Ma. Got to milk the goats." Forget about goats and saving the world. I just want you to wake up, look in my eyes. Come on, Ryan. Rise and shine. The doctors say you have to wake up soon, because the longer you stay this way

Kelly: What do you know about my baby?

Krystal: I know you have a son. Right? A little boy.

Kelly: Who are you?

Krystal: Hey, I'm sorry for the sneak entrance. I really didn't mean to alarm you. Um -- I'm here to help you, Kelly. I'm a mama, same as you. In fact, I have a grandchild the same age as your little tyke, about 5 months, right?

Krystal: I'm sorry. I'm still not clear as to why you're here. What -- is there something wrong with my son? Is he all right?

Krystal: As far as I know, your son is as healthy and safe as a bug in a rug.

Kelly: Safe. Right. He's not safe as long as he's with his father.

Krystal: Oh, come on, now. It's a daddy's job to love and protect his children, right?

Kelly: If Kevin really loved Ace, he would let me see him. He won't let me anywhere near my son.

Krystal: Nobody has a right to come between parent and child. I'm sorry. Is something wrong? I mean, other than a total stranger popping in on you out of nowhere.

Kelly: I know you. I've seen you before.

Krystal: Oh, I just have one of those faces that screams, you know --

Kelly: No.

Krystal: "I know you from somewhere."

Kelly: No, you're -- are you from around here?

Krystal: Well, not exactly a local, no.

Kelly: You said you wanted to help. Why? You don't even know me.

Krystal: A friend sent me, a friend who knows what it's like to have her baby ripped from her arms.

Kelly: A friend? Who is this friend?

Krystal: I can't -- I can't tell you that, and I know that sounds a lot more mysterious than it needs to, but I promised this person that I wouldn't give any information that wasn't necessary, you know.

Kelly: Well, the only way you can help is if you could get me to see my son. Is that why you're here? I mean, has this friend figured out a way to sidestep Kevin to get access to my son? Is that why you're here? Are you going to take me to my son? If you're not, I'm calling the police. I'm calling the police. I'm going to have you arrested for trespassing.

Krystal: You had it right the first time. No, no, no, I -- I'm here to take you to your baby.

Babe: Llanview? I've been there in an accidental sort of way.

Jamie: How'd that go?

Babe: You know, it was one of those dark-and-stormy-night type of deals, driving with zero visibility. Thank God there wasn't another flash flood. No, I took a Roscoe instead of a Louie, and I just ended up in Llanview.

Jamie: Well, next time, call me. PV High and Llanview were big rivals. I know the way.

Babe: Yeah. I found my way ok, and one thing Mama did teach me is that -- that all roads lead back to the main highway, eventually.

Jamie: But you stopped for directions. Palace Hotel, Kevin Buchanan. Must have given you the long way, too, all the time you spent together.

Babe: Oh -- were you hiding in some plant or something?

Jamie: Not even close.

Babe: Ok, so then how did you know about my silly little detour to Llanview?

Jamie: I found the directions scribbled on a map in your purse.

Babe: What? You went through my purse?

Jamie: Yeah.

Babe: And then you bopped on over to Llanview to check up on me?

Jamie: You shut me down, Babe. I had to find out what the deal was.

Babe: The deal was you were supposed to trust me enough to handle this on my own.

Jamie: All right, I didn't sign up for whatever weirdness this is. Something happened to you, Babe, in between the time you left my dad's and you came back pretending you wanted to give your marriage another shot.

Babe: You're right. Something did happen. I needed to clear my head. I had to think about my future for me and my baby. And, yeah, I was all mixed up when I left, but when I got back, I knew exactly what I had to do -- that I had to stay in this marriage for the sake of my baby.

Jamie: How could that be good for you or Bess?

Babe: Jamie, will you just please let this go?

Jamie: I can't. This has stink all over it. What really went down between you and Kevin Buchanan?

Babe: I'm so not doing this with you.

Jamie: Babe, I told you I would stand by you, protect you and Bess. You know you can trust me, count on me. So trust me now. Tell me what really went down in Llanview with you and Kevin Buchanan.

Simone: Hey.

Greenlee: He won't wake up. I've tried everything. Even my bad joke-a-thon. Ryan was always a sucker for bad stand-up.

Simone: You've been here forever.

Jonathan: You need a break.

Greenlee: I'm fine.

Simone: You are stage-three exhausted.

Jonathan: Greenlee, you need to breathe something besides recycled air.

Simone: Yeah, and Ryan needs a break from your lame-o knock-knock jokes.

Greenlee: Yeah, well, what if I'm not here when he wakes up?

Jonathan: Knowing my brother, he'll crack a beer right after he has you paged. Come on, once around the park, and I'll bring you right back.

Simone: Yeah, and I'll give you more scoop on the bottle-top drama for Enchantment's new signature fragrance. It has a happy ending.

Greenlee: I can't leave Ryan.

Jonathan: Well, we can brainstorm ways to wake him up, then, like when we were kids, I'd be asleep, and he would pour cold water down my pajamas.

Simone: Hmm. Brr.

Jonathan: Come on, Greenlee. Come on, let me take care of you for a while. Come on, Ryan would want that.

Greenlee: Just a few minutes.

Jonathan: Yeah.

Greenlee: I'll be back. And when I do, I want to walk in and see a great big smile on your face, just for me.

Maria: Ryan's condition is critical, but he's stable. He still hasn't regained consciousness.

Zach: Well, that's not good.

Maria: No. It's not. But we're hopeful.

Zach: Lavery's in good hands.

Maria: I'm not giving up on Ryan. But I'm not giving up on you yet, either, because I really -- if I can, I would like to help you, with your brother and --

Zach: Well, you can't help me.

Maria: But I want to.

Zach: Ok, and I appreciate that, but I don't think you really understand how I feel about Michael. And I know, you know, you have family, but not all family is the same, happy or unhappy. Being a Cambias is a curse. Greed and corruption for generations. You have no idea.

Maria: Maybe I don't. But I know someone who might.

Ethan: Where does it say I have to answer your questions?

Aidan: Nowhere. But you're not going to have a choice when the police come knocking on your door.

Kendall: I didn't shoot Ryan. I didn't shoot Ryan. I didn't shoot Ryan.

Greenlee: The insanity defense is not going to play.

Kendall: I didn't do it. I didn't do it. I'm not guilty.

Greenlee: Tell that to a judge and jury.

Kendall: No, no. Greenlee, I didn't shoot Ryan. The bullet came from another gun.

Simone: Honestly?

Aidan: Yeah. Ballistics confirmed it. Ryan was shot with a high-powered rifle from a distance. It wasn't the party-game gun. And it was the work of a trained marksman. In your gun club, they ranked you sharpshooter, didn't they, Ethan?

Jonathan: I knew it was you. You couldn't con my brother, so you tried to kill him.

Zach: Everyone is convinced that Ethan Ramsey is a con artist.

Maria: Are you?

Zach: He has not proof that -- he has no proof that he's my son.

Maria: Yeah, but you could prove it. Did you know his mother when you were Alex? I mean, is it possible that you could have a child?

Zach: I didn't stage my own death knowing that I was leaving a child behind. And the end of the Cambias bloodline is a good thing, believe me.

Maria: Ok, wait, wait, wait. Let's -- ok. Let's throw the Cambias thing aside for a second, ok? I mean, think what it would be like to have a son, what it would mean. You would have someone in your life, somebody to love.

Zach: Someone to take your place?

Maria: This isn't about me. This is about you. This is about your chance to maybe have a whole new family and to -- to start over and not be alone and -- I mean, how easy would this be? We could do a simple blood test right here.

Zach: I'm not wasting my time.

Maria: No, no -- wait, come on, don't shut me down again. Please? If Ethan is your son --

Zach: Ethan is not a Cambias.

Aidan: Hey, just calm down. Keep it down a notch, can we?

Jonathan: You worthless piece of --

Simone: Jonathan, losing it is not going to help.

Ethan: You best not touch me again.

Jonathan: Oh, or what? You're going to pull out your rifle, huh? You're going to shoot me like you did my brother?

Aidan: Just back off before security drags your butt out of here, all right?

Jonathan: I hope they're coming for him. I mean, do the police know that he tried to take out Ryan with a high-powered rifle?

Ethan: Look, just because I know how to use a gun doesn't mean I shot Lavery.

Aidan: Well, it doesn't mean you didn't, either.

Ethan: There's nothing tying me to the shooting.

Aidan: Apart from a powerful motive. We all know, Ethan, that Ryan stands between you and a billion-dollar estate.

Ethan: Which would be a lot of good to me if I'm doing time for his murder.

Jonathan: Well, secondhand cons never figure on getting caught.

Ethan: Please. You're watching too many westerns, boys. This isn't a shoot-out at the OK Corral. I'm bored of this. Why don't you go and rustle up some other bad guy to pin your crimes on?

Aidan: Hey, come on. Let him go. Let him go.

Jonathan: Why? Why? So he can pack up and go to leave town?

Aidan: No, I promise you, he won't be doing that, ok?

Kendall: You heard Aidan. I didn't shoot Ryan. You needed it to be me, Greenlee. Ok, it makes perfect sense. All that hate I threw at you and Ryan -- if I couldn't have him, then bang. That's what you thought, and it's ok. It's all right, I understand, and in no way do I blame you.

Greenlee: Kendall, why are you doing this?

Kendall: Because I'm tired of fighting and hating. I don't want to be your enemy, Greenlee. I'm over trying to hurt you and Ryan. You're safe now. From me, at least. I need you to believe that. And I need to see him. Please. Please, Greenlee, just let me see Ryan.

Kelly: Ok, I will go get Ace's teddy bear and then we'll go.

Krystal: No, we can't -- we can't do that just yet, Kelly.

Kelly: Why not?

Krystal: Well, I'm waiting on a phone call to give us the all-clear.

Kelly: How long?

Krystal: I'm not sure.

Kelly: I'm tired of waiting. I want to see my child.

Krystal: I hear you. I hear you. But I have a surefire way of making the time fly. All you got to do is start bragging on that precious baby of yours.

Kelly: Well, he is perfect. He's my whole life.

Krystal: Well, show me a mother who doesn't feel that way, huh?

Kelly: Ace is really special. I think it's because I wanted him so much. He's amazing. This sounds silly, but he could turn himself over at 2 months.

Krystal: Oh, way to go, future "Wrestlemania" champ, huh?

Kelly: And now that he's crawling, he's into everything.

Krystal: I really like a fellow who's a go-getter.

Kelly: And he's got a smile that'll melt your heart.

Krystal: I bet he's been melting hearts since the day you gave birth to him. Hey. I'm sorry, Kelly. Did I talk out of turn? I -- did something happen on your baby's birthday?

Jamie: Babe, talk to me. You can't freeze me out. Just tell me why you're doing this. Babe, come on, this isn't you.

Babe: Like you even know me, Jamie?

Jamie: Better than anyone.

Babe: Oh, like I thought that I knew you? Trusty old James Martin? What a crocka-loada that was.

Jamie: Where is this coming from?

Babe: You said that you would be there for me, Jamie. Where is that? I don't see you showing up for me. You know what? I used to trust you, but I don't anymore.

Jamie: This is so out of nowhere --

Babe: You have 30 seconds to get out of my house and get out of my life and never come back.

Jonathan: You want to know who shot my brother? You squeeze Ethan Ramsey, force him to confess.

Simone: Jonathan, you're going to stroke out if you don't kick it down.

Jonathan: The guy's an assassin and a confidence man, hiding behind an Oxford education. You have to get the police to press charges.

Aidan: Look, all I am is as a PI, any clout that I had with the Pine Valley police department left when my aunt resigned as police chief.

Jonathan: But you have to do something. Ethan Ramsey does not shoot my brother in cold blood and get away with it.

Aidan: Yeah, not if he's guilty. That I can see to.

Greenlee: Kendall, I can't let you see Ryan. I won't.

Kendall: I didn't shoot him.

Greenlee: It doesn't change any of the things that you've said and all the things that you've done. You said that night that you wanted him dead.

Kendall: Yeah, but I was crazy that night. I was somewhere off in the ozone. Greenlee, I really want him to be ok.

Greenlee: I don't care what you want anymore. All I care about is what's good for my husband, and that's not you.

Kendall: I just want to tell him that I'm sorry.

Greenlee: I don't care what you have to say. I don't care about you, period. I care about a strong, good man who's lying in a hospital bed, unable to open his eyes. Just leave him alone, Kendall. Ryan is fighting everything he can fight right now. He doesn't need to take on you.

Jonathan: So what now? And what are we doing? We're standing here and we're going to twiddle our thumbs while Ramsey plots his next move?

Aidan: Don't knock thumb-twiddling. It's actually a great way to focus the mind.

Simone: He's joking. Aidan, tell him you're joking.

Aidan: I'm joking. Actually, I am going to find Derek. I'm going to see how he plans to proceed with this ballistics report, ok?

Jonathan: Ok. Yes. Keep me posted.

Aidan: I will. You keep your cool.

Simone: Oh. Look, Jonathan, maybe -- maybe you could use some coffee to calm you down. Well, that's what they do to hyperactive kids. You know, caffeine has this reverse effect.

Jonathan: I don't need coffee, Simone. I need answers, ok? Is Ramsey still staying at the Pine Cone?

Simone: I don't know. And what difference does it make?

Jonathan: I'm going to go pay him a visit. I'm going to force him to confess for what he did to Ryan.

Simone: No, no, no, that's a bad idea, ok? You're going to leave the rough stuff to the police.

Jonathan: God, I hate this. I hate Ryan getting hit again.

Simone: He was shot before?

Jonathan: No, no, it -- when we were kids, the old man would come after Ryan like he was a punching bag, and I was so little, I couldn't do anything about it. And when I tried, the drunk would just swat me away like I was a fly, and our brother would try to step in, but when he could. I mean, Ryan tried to fight back, but he just -- I mean, he couldn't stop the old man after a few six-packs.

Simone: Ryan's going to be ok.

Jonathan: The punches -- they just kept on coming and coming. He just kept on hitting him and hitting him and --

Simone: Hey, Jonathan, don't go back there. Ok? Stay right here, with me.

Jonathan: I got to get out of here.

Kendall: Hey, Greenlee, listen to me. I get why you're worried, ok? But it's going to be ok. Listen, the first words out of my mouth I'll tell Ryan I didn't shoot him and that I'm calling a big truce.

Greenlee: Kendall, you don't get it. Ryan's not waking up. He may never wake up. That's how bad this is. I've tried everything I can to get through to him, but no matter how hard I try I can't make him hear me.

Zach: What are you doing?

Ethan: Slater. What are you doing here?

Zach: I asked you first.

Ethan: Isn't it obvious? I came to finish the job.

Zach: Well, what are you talking about? What do you mean?

Ethan: Not up on the latest? They're accusing me now.

Zach: Accusing you of what? It's Kendall did the shooting. I saw it on the monitor.

Ethan: She's been crossed off the list. Ballistics reports came back. They show that he was taken down with a high-powered rifle. My experience with that kind of weapon automatically makes me guilty. This town's morphing into a lynch mob. They're firing up their torches to come after me.

Zach: Have the police talked to you?

Ethan: Why bother with formalities?

Zach: If you need a good criminal lawyer, I know one of the best. Just let me --

Ethan: I don't need your lawyer. You want to help me? Take responsibility for the crime you committed.

Zach: What crime is that?

Ethan: Setting Kendall up to take the fall, letting her believe for one second that she was responsible for Lavery being shot.

Maria: What's going on?

Zach: It's started.

Maria: What started?

Zach: They're not going to destroy him, too. It's not going to happen.

Babe: What gives you the high holy right to spy on me, check where I've been and who I've talked with?

Jamie: I'm your friend. I was worried about you.

Babe: "Friend"? Friends go behind friends' back to dig up dirt on them, find things they can twist and mess around to mess with their lives?

Jamie: You know I'm not like that, Babe.

Babe: Yeah, Jamie, I thought we were past that. I thought you wanted what was best for me -- what I wanted.

Jamie: That's all I wanted.

Babe: No, you want to know what you want? You want me to dump J.R. Well, guess what -- it's not going to happen. I'm not leaving J.R., not for you or not for anybody.

Jamie: You know what? Forget me. What happened to that major hate you had working for J.R.? You know, the guy that drugged you, hid your baby?

Babe: It's got a little out of control.

Jamie: A little? The handcuffs, pills in your orange juice, demolished cars. You told me you didn't love the guy.

Babe: I stopped loving J.R. because he hurt me.

Jamie: And he's going to keep on hurting you.

Babe: Jamie, the reason he hurt me is because he was scared about losing Bess, ok? So I just have to show him that that's not going to happen, that me and Bess, we're going to be there for him, that I'm committed to this family.

Jamie: "Committed"? That would almost be funny if J.R. wasn't ready to use his favorite mental institution against you.

Babe: J.R. and I -- we share a connection. A strong one. And, yeah, it's probably going to take a little while for us to trust each other again, but we'll get back to that. I know we can.

Jamie: You have to know better than that.

Babe: And you have to accept my decision, Jamie. Accept that I'm back with J.R. and leave me alone.

Krystal: Kelly -- Kelly, what is it? I mentioned you giving birth to your baby, and you go sad all of a sudden. Wasn't that the happiest day of your life? Was there a problem? Was it a difficult labor and delivery?

Kelly's voice: My baby was stillborn. Oh, God, I lost my baby.

Krystal: Kelly, what's wrong?

Kelly: What happened shouldn't have happened. I deserved to have a child.

Krystal: And you have one.

Kelly: I'm a good mother. I'm a good mother. I don't care what Kevin says.

Krystal: I'm sure you -- I'm sure you are the best --

Kelly: I'm better than some homeless woman.

Krystal: What homeless woman? What does she have to do with your baby?

Kendall: Ryan, it's me. I stayed away for so long because nobody thought that I belonged here. Maybe they thought that it would be bad for you. And I was pretty sure they were right. But I'm not here to hurt you. Never. Do you hear me? Never, ever again. I didn't shoot you. You have to know that. But I know I still did some major damage to your heart. You tried to give it to me how many times? And I just -- I just wasn't ready for it. It was like your -- your love just seemed so strong -- I don't know how I could ever mistake it for a ticking time bomb instead of the amazing gift that it was. You fought so hard to get me to trust you and love you the way that you loved me. But I could never bring myself to take the chance, because I was afraid. Your love -- your love just seemed so much stronger than mine, strong enough to conquer everything, everything but my fear. No, I knew my love would never measure up, and I couldn't face your disappointment. So I killed everything that we had before we ever had a chance. I regret that. Forgive me. I know this comes too late for us, and I accept that. I accept that you love Greenlee the way that you wanted to love me. But what I can't accept -- I can't -- I can't accept you dying, Ryan. I can't. You need to live, Ryan. You need to live. Even -- even if it's just to sit up and tell me to go to hell, you need to live. Please -- please, Ryan. Please come back to us. We need you. I need you.

Krystal: What -- what homeless woman, Kelly? I mean, did you volunteer at a shelter? What connection does she have to your baby?

Kelly: Why are you asking me all these questions?

Krystal: You're upset and I just -- I wanted to understand --

Kelly: You're trying to trip me up.

Krystal: No, I'm not, I swear.

Kelly: Who are you? And who is this friend who sent you? It's Kevin, isn't it? It's Kevin. He sent you to get information on me to prove that I'm an unfit mother.

Krystal: I swear I have never met your husband in my life.

Kelly: I don't believe you. You're on his side, I can tell.

Krystal: The only side I'm on is Ace's mama. I know what it's like. I know what it's like for a young lady to have to fight to hold on to her child.

Kelly: I just want to hold him. I just want to hold him.

Krystal: I know, you will. You will when the time is right.

Kelly: I thought you said that we were going to go see him now. I thought you said somebody was going to call.

Krystal: I know, I know, I know, and if they haven't called by now, it's just probably not going to happen right now, but I promise you we're not going to give up, ok? I am not going to stop until that baby is in his mama's arms again. Ok? But you got to trust me and you can't tell anybody, ok? If you tell anybody, this is just going to blow the whole thing.

Kelly: I don't know who you are, but I guess I have to trust you if I want to see my son.

Krystal: You swear you're not going to tell anybody?

Kelly: I swear.

Krystal: Good. And, Kelly, I want you to know that no matter what happens I'm really sorry for the heartache you've been through. I am. And we'll be in touch.

Krystal: She's got a secret about that baby. Baby doll, I think you might be on to something after all.

[Bess cries]

Babe: I hope you didn't stick around to make a big fuss. You'll upset Bess.

Jamie: Nope.

Babe: And what's that mean?

Jamie: It means I'm not going to fight you.

Babe: Now the other shoe?

Jamie: Really? You're old enough to know what you want. And if that's life with J.R. and you think you can make it work, I say go for it.

Babe: Thank you for understanding.

Jamie: Yeah, that's me. Mr. Understanding. I just want happy days and ice cream cones for you.

Maria: Why did you deny it?

Zach: What?

Maria: You're not protecting Ethan because you think he's innocent. You want to save him because he's your son.

Greenlee: You're not going anywhere, not until I'm through with you.

Kendall: Ryan, please. Please, just hear me, ok? This comes from my heart. Just please come back to me. Just open your eyes and come back to me, please.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Maria: Do you think that Ethan may have shot Ryan?

Jonathan: I'm going to nail Ramsey, and you're not going to stop me.

Aidan: What are you going to do, is score him a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Ethan: I admit it, all right? I tried to kill your husband.

Kendall: Ryan, say something. Say something, say anything.

Ryan: Get out.
