All My Children Transcript Wednesday 8/18/04
Proofread by Gisele
Maggie: Hello, James! Look at me -- little red from the hood. I thought I'd bring you some boredom busters. So I got games, books, magazines.
Jamie: Magazines? Well, I hope you grabbed the ones I stashed under my mattress.
Maggie: You are so wicked. Such a drama hog, always in need of attention, huh? Hugs ok?
Jamie: Yeah, hugs work.
Maggie: You sure you're ok?
Jamie: Just don't make me laugh. I'm already in stitches.
Maggie: Who's laughing? You almost got yourself stabbed to death in that jail cell. You know, I hope going undercover was worth it.
Jamie: Well, I had to dead-end my brother, and I did it. I just pray it paid off.
J.R.: Babe played Jamie, just like she played me. That's the reason why my brother almost died. I told him, even though he was out cold and he couldn't hear me, that I'm going to get that lying slut of my wife out of our lives.
Adam: I know a way to do just that.
J.R.: Lay it on me, Dad. At this moment I'm up for anything.
Adam: Including murder?
J.R.: What, you want me to kill Babe?
Adam: No, of course not. I want Babe to kill you.
Babe: Hey. About the other morning that you thought that you maybe saw J.R. slip something into my orange juice --
David: There's no maybe about it, Babe. He drugged your drink.
Babe: But nothing bad even happened to him when he drank it.
David: That doesn't change the fact that I saw your husband put a pill into your drink. Why? What's going on? Are you feeling ok?
Babe: Yeah, I'm fine. J.R. -- he brought this to me this morning. But he doesn't know that I didn't drink it. David, I want you to test it.
David: I'm happy to see you've finally come around.
Babe: I have to know if he's the monster that everybody says that he is, and if I kept Bianca from her baby for nothing.
Bianca: This is all for you, baby mine. Oh, please, don't go.
Zach: I didn't mean to intrude.
Bianca: No, you're not. You're not. In fact, I came here looking for you.
Zach: Oh. What's the problem? I'll fix it.
Bianca: I have some serious concerns about the fundraiser today, and you're one of them.
Simone: Mmm. Hey, Jonathan, you're just in time to put that gorgeous nose of yours to work.
Jonathan: Now, what do you want me to do?
Simone: I want you to follow the scent of Enchantment pulse point to throbbing pulse point.
Greenlee: Oh, put it in park, Simone. The essential oil is present, but it's subtle.
Greenlee: What do we use for dilution?
Simone: Vodka. Well, I figured if the fragrance tanked, we could drink the inventory.
Greenlee: Jonathan, how are those numbers coming along for the national ad blitz?
Jonathan: I'm still crunching.
Greenlee: Well, crunch faster. I mean, come on, you guys. Our signature fragrance is scheduled to launch next month, and we have tons of things to sign off on.
Simone: Hey, why don't you stay here, you know, and make all those pesky-but-yet-critical executive decisions, and Jonathan and I can rep you and Ryan at the casino fundraiser.
Greenlee: Yeah, place our bets and die. Nobody represents me and Ryan but me and Ryan. I got to get home to get ready.
Jonathan: I'm going to take these samples back to the lab.
Greenlee: Jonathan, I'm going to want those numbers first thing --
Simone: Oh, sounds like someone's got some --
Greenlee: Oh, my God. He's a total fraud.
Simone: Oh, my God. Ethan Cambias is a fake-out artist?
Greenlee: No, Jonathan's the big, fat faker.
Simone: He's not Ryan's brother?
Greenlee: No, he is Ryan's brother, Simone. He's just not what he said he is.
Simone: Well, he is what I say he is -- heart-stopping gorgeous.
Greenlee: Simone, please?
Simone: Ok, I'll be serious. All right, talk to me.
Greenlee: Well, Jonathan hasn't exactly worked his MBA magic around here. Someone with a degree from Princeton should have way more business savvy. When I know more about the tax code than the guy hired to handle the stuff --
Greenlee: I get a little suspicious.
Simone: So you ran a background check.
Greenlee: Yeah, I contacted Princeton for Jonathan's curriculum and GPA.
Simone: He didn't graduate third in his class?
Greenlee: He didn't graduate at all.
Greenlee: According to this email, he failed his junior year.
Simone: Oh, get out! My Mr. Hunka-hunka has totally lied on his rep.
Greenlee: Yeah, he lied, and he took a job he's completely unqualified for.
Simone: Oh, my gosh. Ryan is going to be so bummed that we found out his little brother is --
Greenlee: Tell me about it. They've completely bonded.
Jonathan: Just let me clear the rest of these samples.
Greenlee: That can wait. Jonathan, we need to talk.
Jonathan: Ok, sure. What about?
[Elevator doors open]
Greenlee: Ethan. What can I do for you?
Ethan: You offered me money. I've decided to take it.
David: As your father, I can't help but be relieved that you're wising up about J.R.
Babe: Easy, David. You know what? The only thing that you're going to find in there is going to be some, like, crushed-up prenatal vitamins so the baby that we're making is going to be extra healthy.
David: Then why not admit it? J.R. denied putting anything in your drink.
Babe: You so want him to be guilty. You want to find something evil in that juice because you hate J.R. and everything that's Chandler. And if you're right, you win. But did you even stop for a second to think about what Bess and I could lose?
David: I take no pleasure in any of this, Babe. But my chief concern is protecting you and Bess.
Babe: And I love J.R. so if you're even going to think for a second about doctoring those tests to get the results that you want --
David: I was here in this hospital when your heart stopped, remember? Do you honestly believe that I want J.R. to be guilty of drugging my daughter? Especially since he almost killed you the first time around.
Babe: You know, I don't even know what to believe anymore. You don't exactly have a reputation for being trustworthy around here.
David: I swear you can trust me on this. I want to know the truth about J.R. just as much as you do. In fact, we can even test your blood if you want.
Babe: How long will the tests take?
David: The juice is fast. Blood takes a little longer. But by the end of the day, you'll know for certain what J.R.'s true intentions are.
J.R.: Any plan where I'm outlined in chalk is definitely out.
Adam: No, she's not going to murder you, not really. We just have to make it appear that that was her intent.
J.R.: Well, how dead do I have to get?
Adam: Picture this. Your wife -- lying, cheating drug user that she is, who married you for your money -- is lounging on the sofa after scarfing down some -- oh, good grief -- peanut butter and banana pancakes --
Adam: And she hears a knock at the door. So she manages to drag her lazy butt over to the door and open it to the Pine Valley police, who say they're here to arrest her for conspiracy to murder her husband.
J.R.: Ah. As long as I'm still alive, so far so good.
Adam: Mm-hmm. So you, her husband, shocked and -- and disbelieving, leap to her defense.
J.R.: "Officer, how dare you barge into my home and accuse my wife."
Adam: Yes. You demand to know what grounds they have for making such an outrageous accusation. Well, they say that she approached a homeless man, offered him a great deal of money in exchange for murdering her husband.
J.R.: And naturally, Babe denies it.
J.R.: The police have corroborating evidence.
Adam: Yeah, planted and selected by invisible hands, none of which are traceable back to you. You, J.R., crushed and betrayed, take a long look at the mother of your child before ripping Bess from the hands of this would-be murderer. You watch in shock as they put her in handcuffs and take her off to jail, her hysterical mama on baby doll's heels, neither of which will ever darken our doorstep again.
J.R.: Where do I sign on?
J.R.: Lead me to the slaughter.
J.R.: And before we know it, this precious angel will be all mine.
Bianca: I know that today is supposed to be about Miranda, but it's -- it's also about the person that you lost.
Zach: For me?
Zach: Well, I can't accept that.
Bianca: Oh, yes, of course you can. Please. I don't know if you have a picture of the person that you lost, but if you do, I thought that you could frame it and put it on your desk. And when you look at it, I -- I hope that you'll remember everything that you did for Miranda and think about all the women and children who you helped in her name. And when you look into the eyes of the person that you lost, I hope it warms your heart instead of breaks it.
Zach: Thank you.
Bianca: It's -- it's my biggest regret that I don't have a picture of Miranda. I'm afraid that the images that I have in my mind will fade.
Zach: Are you sure you're up for this? Because if not, you can go to your suite and I can take care of things here.
Bianca: No. I'll be fine.
Kendall: Yes, you will. Hey. I am going to be right here with you.
Erica: And so will I.
Maggie: James, you got stabbed. Ok? It's downtime. You don't have to save the world.
Jamie: Ok, fine. I'll call a time-out.
Maggie: Thank you.
Jamie: What's that?
Maggie: Oh. I called Dr. Joe and he gave me the ok.
Jamie: The ok for what?
Maggie: Well, to deliver your brain transplant. You know that whenever I'm down and gloomy, I always fix up one of my famous root beer floats, so I thought I'd come here and deliver it personally.
Jamie: You're the best.
Maggie: I know I am. So, call your root beer-to-ice cream ratio.
Jamie: Heavy on the ice cream.
Maggie: I forgot a spoon. I'll be right back, ok? Hold tight.
Babe: Thank you.
Maggie: What are you doing here?
Babe: I just wanted to see how Jamie was doing.
Maggie: Well, he's doing better, thank God. You can go now.
Babe: I need to see Jamie.
Maggie: Well, he doesn't need to see you.
Erica: Bianca, before I forget, this is my contribution to the Miranda Montgomery Center for Women and Children.
Bianca: Well, wow. Mom, this is -- this is beyond generous.
Erica: It's not nearly enough.
Zach: If you ladies will excuse me, I'm going to go and check on my other guests. Oh -- why don't you play the tables? Enjoy yourself. It attracts good luck.
Kendall: Not to mention high rollers.
Waitress: Champagne, ladies?
Kendall: Um -- no. No, thank you.
Bianca: Thank you, no.
Erica: No, not for me. Thank you so much. You know, I'm the one with the drinking problem. You don't need to hold back on my account.
Bianca: Mom, are you sure you're ok with this?
Erica: Ok with what, honey?
Bianca: Well, being back in a casino so soon, surrounded by people drinking. I will understand if it's too much for you.
Erica: To be perfectly honest with you, the sounds, the crowds -- it is a bit unnerving.
Kendall: Well, then, ok. Then, mother, we have to get you out of here.
Erica: No, no, no. I will be fine.
Bianca: Are you sure?
Erica: I'm very sure. But just so you're sure, I want you to know I have my cell phone and my -- my sponsor on speed dial. Honey, believe me, I know how much love you have poured into this event. And certainly, Zach has spared no expense.
Kendall: Hmm. Don't forget Ryan. He kicked in, too, right? Such a humanitarian he is. Hmm.
Bianca: You know what I just love about this? How it brings everyone together. It makes me just want to forget all about our problems and differences and focus on the positive, like all the good that we can accomplish.
Erica: I agree. Oh, yes. Because, I mean, tonight is really all about honoring Miranda Montgomery. Everything else needs to be just checked at the door.
Kendall: Yeah. You two are real subtle there.
Erica: Excuse me?
Kendall: That sugarcoated warning? Come on, you guys think I'm going to cause a scene when Ryan and Greenlee get here.
Erica and Bianca: Are you?
Kendall: No. No, I am not. I promise you I will be on my very best behavior. Scout's honor.
Jonathan: Where does this guy get off waltzing in here and asking for a handout?
Greenlee: Jonathan, please. Ethan, I assume that you need the money to move out of fleabag central, aka the Pine Cone.
Ethan: Actually, no. That's not what it's for.
Greenlee: What is it for?
Ethan: It's a somewhat personal matter.
Jonathan: It's a down payment on ammo against us.
Ethan: Look, you and Ryan hold the keys to the Cambias estate. I'm the only surviving heir.
Jonathan: Your word, no proof.
Ethan: I'll get proof. If it turns out I'm wrong and there is no Cambias connection, I will work to pay back the loan in full. And if I am the grandson of Alexander Cambias, then I'm only getting an advance on money that is already rightfully mine.
Jonathan: You're not taking my family along for your ride, so don't hold your breath. You just see if you get one penny from Ryan or Greenlee!
Greenlee: Ethan, how much do you need?
Greenlee: I'll get my checkbook.
Jonathan: Greenlee, you can't do this without asking Ryan.
Greenlee: Ryan and I are a team. He trusts my judgment.
Jonathan: You're not seriously going to give this guy $2,000?
Greenlee: I most certainly am.
Maggie: Look, Babe, I think it's better if you go home now.
Babe: Look, Maggie, I don't blame you for feeling this way. I know that Jamie is lying in that hospital bed because he tried to protect me.
Maggie: He almost died.
Babe: And that's exactly why I need to see him. I just need to talk with him and makes things right if I can. I'm sorry, Maggie. You can't stop me.
Babe: I believe you, Jamie. I believe that you didn't hurt me. Jamie, I am so sorry for ever believing that you're the one that drugged me.
Jamie: Babe, it's ok.
Babe: No, it's not.
Jamie: J.R. did a number on you.
Babe: I'm still not sure that -- that my husband did anything.
Jamie: Because you don't want to believe it. I know. I've been there -- telling myself that there's no way that my brother would be behind something so evil. Even when I took a knife in the gut and lay bleeding in that jail cell, I still didn't want to believe that J.R.'s fingerprints were all over this.
Babe: But now you do?
Jamie: And so will you. Because you have to, Babe. You have to accept the truth about J.R., and you have to get away from him before he plans his next hit.
Babe: And how am I supposed to that, Jamie? I love J.R. How am I supposed to believe that he hates me that -- God. We were so perfect, weren't we? Me and J.R. and Bess. It's kind of like we had our own little world, our own little happily ever after. But now, if J.R. is just as bad as everybody says that he is, if it was all just a lie, well, where does that leave me, Jamie? Me and Bess? What's going to happen to us if our perfect little world just falls apart?
Jamie: Whatever happens, you and Bess will be ok. I'll make sure of that.
Babe: The only thing that I really know for sure, and that kills me the most of all, is how much J.R. loves Bess. Jamie, she's never cried a tear that he wasn't there to dry. I just don't even know. I mean, this life is the only -- it's the only life that Bess has known, with her mama and her daddy. It's that perfect life that I promised her. But now if I found out that he's some monster, there's no way I can let him anywhere near her. And even though she loves her daddy so, so much, I -- I can't let her see him. Bess will be raised by her mama and her mama alone.
Bianca: I know that look -- promising to be on your best behavior. What are the odds of that?
Kendall: Better than at the tables? I said "Scout's honor."
Bianca: Yeah, but you're not a scout. So, Kendall, what's the -- what's the game plan this time? I don't -- I don't see any trunks to hide inside. Maybe you could disguise yourself as a croupier or -- or hide inside one of the slot machines, the better to spy on Mr. and Mrs. Lavery?
Kendall: I don't need a hiding place or a disguise to warn Ryan that he's married to a scheming little cheat.
Bianca: You know, I think that Ryan has been married to Greenlee for long enough to know whom he's dealing with.
Kendall: No, he needs his eyes opened.
Bianca: Would it kill you to just forget about them?
Kendall: What, and leave Ryan at the mercy of little miss lying, cheating, garden gnome? Bianca, you think it's easy for me to be the lone voice of reason while everyone else buys into that sham of a marriage? Well, it's not, and I'm not going to roll over. I'm going to lead the fight to expose Greenlee, and I won't stop until I've won.
Bianca: Kendall, you never win. You're the one who always ends up getting hurt.
Kendall: Bianca, Ryan's the one who's going to get hurt by that user he calls a wife. I have to make Ryan see the truth before Greenlee eats his heart out.
Ethan: Thank you.
Jonathan: What was that? You just handed off two grand to a con man.
Greenlee: Uh-huh. I know what I did. And here's why. Ethan could be who he says he is, in which case he's entitled to the money.
Jonathan: And if he turns out to be a fake?
Greenlee: It's way smarter to keep your enemies closer to you until you can beat them.
Jonathan: You ask me, you're way too trusting.
Simone: Yeah, well, you should know. I mean, anyone that knows Greenlee knows what a trusting sort of gal she is.
Jonathan: Well, hey, I mean, it doesn't make a bit of sense to me, but it's your company, not mine.
Greenlee: Jonathan, I know where your concern about Ethan is coming from. You don't want Ryan to get scammed. You know, neither one of us wants him to get hurt.
Greenlee: So, don't you think it's time that you come clean with your brother about yourself?
Palmer: Well, well, well, well, well.
Palmer: This is what I call an embarrassment of riches. Look at you -- my three favorite women, and you all look absolutely fabulous.
Erica: Oh, thank you, Palmer!
Kendall and Bianca: Thank you, Palmer.
Erica: And don't you look fabulous.
Bianca: Yeah, Palmer. Where's your date?
Palmer: Date? No, no, I came -- I came stag. Who knows? I -- I might get lucky.
Kendall: You might.
Erica: Oh, well, speaking of lucky --
Erica: Bianca, will you please escort Palmer over to another of his favorite things -- the bar?
Palmer: That's bad. Good-bye, sweetie. Lead the way, darling.
Bianca: Right this way, sir.
Palmer: You know, I still have to be introduced formally to our host, the infamous Zach Slater. Is he always so elusive?
Bianca: Oh, I wouldn't say "elusive," but he is a very private guy.
Bianca's voice: And when you look into the eyes of the person that you lost, I hope it warms your heart instead of breaks it.
Bianca: Ah. Here's where you disappeared to. Oh, is that -- is that the picture of the person you lost? May I see?
Jonathan: Ry and I are open with each other on, well, just about everything.
Greenlee: Except your past.
Jonathan: What about my past?
Greenlee: Well, Ryan mentioned that you're sort of vague when it comes to clues about yourself.
Jonathan: Anything Ryan wants to know, all he has to do is ask.
Greenlee: It just struck me as kind of ironic -- I mean, you going off on Ethan when you maybe haven't been upfront yourself.
Jonathan: Ethan is a liar. You can't be comparing me to that loser.
Greenlee: No, of course not. I just know how much Ryan loves you, and maybe it's this sort of hero worship thing going on -- you know, you don't want to disappoint your big brother, let him down. But that's the great thing about Ryan. He doesn't give guilt trips and he has no judgment. So if there's anything you're nervous about telling him, don't be because Ryan is all about forgiveness and second chances. You're just honest with him, and he always does right by you.
Jonathan: Greenlee, I don't know where you're going with this, but I'm clean. I have nothing to feel guilty about and I have nothing to confess. Ok?
Simone: Oh, can you believe that guy? You gave him enough room to drive a semi through and he didn't even take it!
Greenlee: Just what Ryan needs -- another liar in his life. I got to go. I'm going to be late for the fundraiser.
Simone: Oh, yeah, you better run.
Simone: Have fun.
Zach: I'm really not ready to talk about it.
Bianca: Ok. I totally understand that.
Zach: So -- so what can I do for you?
Bianca: There are some guests in the VIP lounge asking for you.
Zach: I'll take care of it. The -- the frame -- it's one of the most thoughtful things anyone's ever done for me. How did you get to be so -- so selfless?
Bianca: Well, I'm hardly selfless.
Zach: Well, you seem keyed on everyone else.
Bianca: Well, maybe it's because I'm guided by my own little angel. I -- I can literally hear Mirandas voice reminding me that -- that we're all human. And so when I see somebody who's struggling or hurting, it's on me to try to help them. And then maybe if I'm worthy, I'll be reunited with my daughter again.
J.R.: Bess, your godfather, Jamie, is going to be ok. Yeah.
Adam: You had nothing to do with what happened to Jamie. It wasn't your fault.
J.R.: You're right. You're right. The one we should be blaming for this is Babe. None of this would've ever happened if it weren't for her.
Babe: Hey, just because I'm rooting for my marriage, it doesn't mean that I'm going to live in some fool's paradise. I'm going to get the real deal one way or another.
Jamie: What's that mean?
Babe: It means that I'm going to get the truth out of J.R. no matter what it takes. Uh-uh. Where do you think you're going?
Jamie: Well, if you're sold on getting the truth from J.R., you're doing it with my help.
Babe: Excuse me? Do I look like some helpless female? Some prissy little wimp? Do I have to remind you, I am my mother's daughter and she taught me how to kick butt and take care of myself.
Jamie: Yeah, and I'm my father's son, and there's no way I'm letting you work on J.R. without backup.
Babe: I promise you I will be so super careful. Besides, I need to do this my way, all the way -- for you and for myself. But most of all, I need to do this for Bess. There's a lot riding on how this is going to play out. You have no idea. Hey, look, I got to get back to Bess, so don't you worry about me. You just worry about getting yourself better, ok? Ok?
David: What are you going to do, Babe?
Maggie: Hey. You -- you got any truth serum you can slip J.R.?
David: Don't think I haven't thought of it. One dose of liquid lie detector and J.R. babbles his way to cellblock H.
Maggie: Because I -- I look at Jamie spread out on that bed, knowing that his brother put him there, and it makes me crazy.
David: Yes, well, here's another side of crazy. It's me wanting to protect Babe from that son of Adam and knowing that I can't do anything because I have to let her come to that place all to herself. That makes me crazy.
Maggie: David, I know how hard this is for you, and not just because of J.R. but because you had a daughter that you couldn't save. Maybe that's why I know. You're going to save your daughter this time.
Bianca: Well, I found him.
Bianca: Palmer Cortlandt, this is Zach Slater.
Palmer: Aha. You do exist.
Zach: Mr. Cortlandt. I've heard a lot about you.
Palmer: Not all of it from my grandson, I hope.
Zach: Well, not to worry, it's all good. Your reputation precedes you.
Kendall: Wow! Greenlee, you look fabulous.
Kendall: So, where's your better half?
Greenlee: Ryan's meeting me here.
Kendall: Oh. Well, I can get you a drink while you're waiting.
Greenlee: Arsenic on the rocks with a twist of lye?
Kendall: Relax, Greenlee. You can park the paranoia.
Greenlee: Me, paranoid? And you being nice to me on a day with a y in it? Level with me, Kendall. Tell me why you're acting like miss goody two-pumps.
Zach: Everyone, welcome. Now that the evening is under way, I would like to propose a toast. So, please, raise your glass to the memory of Miranda Montgomery and to the success of the center that bears her name. Now, wherever Miranda is tonight, I hope she knows how much she's loved, and I have no doubt that little angel takes great pride in what her mother has done in her name and her spirit.
J.R.: Sweet dreams, Bess.
Adam: I'll take her up so Beverly can put her to bed.
J.R.: Yeah. Daddy's going to be gone for a couple of days, but your nanny's going to take really good care of you and I'll be back before you know it.
Adam: Bye-bye. Good night.
J.R.: Good night.
Adam: Good night.
J.R.: Babe, where are you?
Babe: I'm right here.
J.R.: Well, you should hurry up and get changed so we won't be late for the fundraiser.
Babe: I'm not going to go anywhere with you, J.R., not until we talk.
David: Good news, Martin. Looks like you're about to make a full recovery.
Jamie: Oh, Doc, I didn't know you cared.
David: Don't flatter yourself. I just want to make sure that you're well enough to testify against that worthless brother of yours when the time comes.
Jamie: What, do you know something I don't? Police haven't arrested him. What makes you so sure J.R. is going to slip up?
David: Call it a hunch. I have a feeling J.R.'s castle is going to come tumbling down real soon.
J.R.: Babe, how about you get changed, and then we could talk about whatever on the way to the fundraiser?
Babe: This can't wait. In fact, you may even want to sit down for this.
J.R.: What is -- what is all this drama about? If you have something to say, just say it.
Babe: Ok. I'm pregnant.
Kendall: Suspicion and mistrust -- that's the thanks I get for being nice?
Greenlee: You're not known for doing nice.
Kendall: Well, tonight's different. This event is for Bianca and Miranda. That's why we're both here. Believe me, Greenlee, you have nothing to fear from me.
Erica: Greenlee, Kendall. I trust all is well?
Greenlee: Erica -- welcome back, and good luck on your recovery. I mean that.
Erica: Thank you.
Kendall: Doesn't my mother look fabulous?
Erica: Kendall, Palmer wanted a word with you.
Kendall: Oh, of course. Sorry if my hostess-with-the-mostest welcome freaked you out. I'll try to be more like you next time. Hi.
Ethan: What the hell did you do with my uncle's body? It's missing from its grave!
Erica: Who is this?
Ethan: My name is Ethan Cambias. My uncle's name was Michael.
>> On the next "All My Children" --
Babe: Why don't you share the good news.
J.R.: Babe's pregnant!
Babe: Aren't you happy for us?
Erica: Don't go after Ryan and Greenlee. You're only going to look desperate.
Kendall: I have to go now before it's too late.
Greenlee: What's my surprise?
