Ryan: You realize what's at stake here?

Greenlee: Our lives.

Ryan: If we die tonight, what happens to Fusion and Enchantment?

Greenlee: Pine Valley as we know it. But if it's time, glad we're going together.

Ryan: Yeah, me, too.

Jonathan: Mmm -- voilŠ! I did manage to master a few dishes.

Ryan: Skasketti!

Jonathan: Rigatone arrabiata.

Ryan: Yeah!

Greenlee: Translation, please?

Jonathan: It's the second cousin of ziti, penne --

Greenlee: No, not from you.

Ryan: Oh, Hockett couldn't get enough spaghetti growing up, but --

Greenlee: "Hockett"? "Hockett"?

Ryan: It was his nickname as a kid.

Greenlee: Who saddled you with that?

Ryan: Well, it's a tragic story about a young boy and a hockey puck.

Jonathan: Hey, can we shut up and eat and get it on the plate, please?

Ryan: All right, all right.

[Knock on door]

Ryan: Mmm, mmm, mmm.

Greenlee: Oh, Hockett, since you're up --

Ryan: Chef Hockett rocks!

Jonathan: While I'm up -- hold on.

Greenlee: Oh, tonight is now -- mmm -- officially -- mmm --

Jonathan: Kendall.

Greenlee: Ruined.

Adam: Why discuss J.R.?

Brooke: Don't try and protect him, Adam.

Adam: J.R. is very upset about what happened to Jamie. And I couldn't be sorrier for Jamie and for you.

Brooke: Oh, spare me the crocodile tears, please.

Adam: It must be impossible to accept. You've had such high hopes for Jamie.

Brooke: Jamie did not drug Babe.

Adam: The evidence seems to support his arrest, Brooke. It seems Jamie fooled all of us.

Brooke: I should have gotten him therapy. I just thought it was a crush or a phase or something that would pass. And now --

Adam: Nobody took Jamieís obsession seriously. If we had --

Brooke: Everything would be different.

Adam: There, there, there.

Babe: Jamie, I -- I didn't mean to lead you on.

Jamie: You didn't. Babe, if you're afraid any of this is your fault, don't be, ok? It wasn't you.

Babe: Jamie, I understand. I've done things, things that I thought were for the best because I loved somebody. They were wrong, but I did them anyway.

Jamie: You're saying you forgive me for drugging you?

Babe: Yes.

Jamie: Well, then, can you forgive J.R.? Because he's the one who did it.

J.R.: You know, you're not the only one that's freaked out about what's going on. But slipping this on me -- what are you going to do? You going to lock me in?

Tad: No. I'm just trying to make a point.

J.R.: What? I'm not going to lock Babe in a psych ward.

Tad: Really? You've got somewhere else in mind?

J.R.: If anybody deserves to be locked in a place like this, it's Jamie for stalking Babe.

Tad: Your brother didn't drug Babe. I brought you here. I wanted you to see this because I love you.

J.R.: You tricked me.

Tad: No. All I made you do is think that Adam wanted to take a look at Babeís new home. The moment for shock and righteous indignation is gone, son. I'm sorry. Even if you didn't recognize the address, you knew exactly what this place was the minute you pulled up the driveway.

J.R.: I was just trying to see what sick, weird stunt my dad was trying to pull.

Tad: J.R., I'm trying to throw you a lifeline. And from the bottom of my heart, I am begging you to take it before it's too late.

J.R.: You brought me to a padded cell in a nut house -- my mother's padded cell -- to save me. Well, fine. Go for it. Let's see how much further you're willing to take this.

Babe: Why do you keep doing this?

Jamie: I hate this, too! I've looked up to my brother and trusted him my entire life, but he is morphing into Adam.

Babe: I'm not going to stand here and listen to you insult my husband.

Jamie: Ok. Ok. Just tell me about Bess. How is she doing?

Babe: Bess is perfect. Her daddy loves her so much, he can barely take his eyes off her.

Jamie: Well, how about you? J.R. loves the baby, no doubt, but does he show any sign that he still loves you?

J.R.: If this is your ambush, bring it. Bring on the straitjacket.

Tad: Don't even joke, J.R. You got no idea how much your mother hated this place, the things they did to her. But she would have stayed here willingly if she thought for one moment that she was a risk to you. But as soon as she started palming the sedatives they were trying to cram down her throat, she realized the truth -- that she'd been used, that she fulfilled her function, and now she had been discarded. Basically, you had to be stolen from her, because all she was guilty of was being a good mother to you.

J.R.: Can we just stick to the subject here -- what a lousy person I am?

Tad: You're not. You're not a lousy person, certainly not the kind of person who would do something like this. And I know, because I raised you. From the moment I could hold you in two of my hands, you were as much my son as you were Adamís.

J.R.: You mean a son like Jamie? One you can trust and believe? I have a father. I also have a wife and a daughter who I have to protect from that great son of yours.

Tad: J.R., come on. Do you realize if Dixie were alive --

J.R.: But she's not, Mom is not alive, so don't use her name or her memory to try to manipulate me. I'm not that little kid you used to lead around by the hand.

Tad: I know you're not.

J.R.: And you can't bring me to this place, to the scene of the crime to try to get me to yell some sort of bogus confession.

Tad: That's not why I brought you here.

J.R.: Yes, it is! And you've already got me convicted, even though Iím not guilty.

Tad: J.R., you know, from the moment you were born, Adam wanted to get rid of Dixie. He set out to prove that she was unfit. He was even willing to make her think that she was unstable, to drug her, to lock her in a place like this without her consent.

J.R.: And you never got over it, so now you want to make me guilty.

Tad: You're not guilty -- not yet. I have pulled your soul out of some dark alleyways while you were growing up, but if you start down this road with your father, there's no turning around and coming back.

J.R.: Thank you. Thank you for the trust and the confidence. You know, with all this stuff that's going on, Babe nearly dying from the drug, almost losing Bess, this was exactly what I needed. Thank you. Go ahead, think what you like about me, that Iím the bad guy, if that's easier for you.

Tad: Nothing about this is easy for me. The fact we're standing in this room breaks my heart. The reason we're standing in this room is because you've got a choice to make, and it's the most important choice of your life. J.R., you're not your father, and you don't have to be. It's your decision. Nobody knows that better than me, because a man named Joseph Martin loved me enough to fight for me the way Iím trying to fight for you. It doesn't make a difference how screwed up your childhood was. It sure as hell wasn't any worse than mine. I remember every fight between Adam and Dixie. I remember every single time we'd shove you in that car and shuttled you between houses like you were some kind of pet in a bad divorce.

J.R.: Yeah, that was a long time ago.

Tad: No matter what happened, no matter what your father threw at us, we always thought you stood a chance.

J.R.: Yeah, well, it wasn't that bad, not as bad as you think.

Tad: Even after your mother died, I always thought that I --

J.R.: Will you just stop? I don't the bio. I lived it.

Tad: J.R., from the moment she got here, have there been two days in a row when you trusted your wife?

J.R.: Because of your son Jamie, it hasn't been easy.

Tad: So who have you got? Every person on this earth needs at least one person that they can trust. Bess. You don't just love her, you feel safe with her, and you would do anything to protect that, to make sure you never lose that feeling. The question is, how far are you willing to go? What exactly are you prepared to sacrifice? A brother and a wife? I know Iím right, J.R. You set this whole thing in motion so you could hang on to Bess, to make sure you never lost your daughter.

Brooke: I must have lost my mind.

Adam: Oh, Brooke. Can't an ex offer a little sympathy?

Brooke: I'm not going to give you any additional ammunition.

Adam: This isn't a war, Brooke. We're all in this together.

Brooke: Jamie's never been in any real trouble. I mean, I just -- I never expected -- I guess I should have looked deeper.

Adam: We're parents. We're not mind readers.

Brooke: I just -- there weren't any signs, at least, none that I noticed. And Jamieís always seemed to respect women and boundaries. I mean, can't even imagine that he would move in on somebody else's girlfriend, and -- but this? His brother's wife? Drugging her to get her to sleep with him? I mean, I don't know how it happened. I mean, when did he snap?

[Door closes]

Mary: Winifred? I need you! Winifred -- oh, Brooke! Oh, it's so shocking to hear about Jamie! I'm so sorry!

Brooke: Hmm, thank you.

Mary: It's just dreadful how our children can cause us such heartache sometimes --

Adam: Uh -- tsk, tsk, tsk -- take your booty --

Mary: How provocative.

Adam: Your purchases, your ill-gotten charge-to-my-accounts gains, and get out of here, leave us alone.

Mary: Excuse me. This is my home, too, you know?

Adam: No, no, it is not, Mary. You are occasionally amusing and have even at one time or another been useful, but don't push your luck. Brooke's not in the mood, and neither am I.

Mary: Ok, then Iíll just put my things away, and then would you like me to serve cocktails, master?

Adam: Ask Winifred to serve us some tea. Sorry for the interruption, Brooke.

Brooke: Is there someplace else we can go where we won't be interrupted again?

Adam: Yes, of course.

Ryan: Fusion lost --

Kendall: $100,000 worth of cosmetics. Bye-bye.

Ryan: How? Who is responsible?

Kendall: Why don't you ask your wife?

Ryan: Greenlee?

Greenlee: What can I say? I was off my game. Sorry.

Kendall: No, "Iím sorry" doesn't even begin to cover it, not even close.

Ryan: Mistakes happen, Kendall.

Kendall: Yeah, but responsible executives do not sweep their mistakes under the corporate carpet. I'm sorry, but this goes beyond monetary loss here. Greenlee's screw-up cost us our western distribution. I mean, I'm sorry, but you know what? First, I expect you to cover the loss, and, second --

Ryan: No, it was a mistake. We all make them.

Kendall: Fine, fine. Ok, she made the mistake, but the fact that she attempted to cover it up? Ryan, that brings things to a whole new level. I'm sorry, but she can't be trusted. Greenlee, you should resign.

Jonathan: No! I should. It was my mistake. No, I can't -- I can't let you sit here and take the heat for me.

Ryan: You?

Jonathan: I should have handled it differently, told you right upfront. See, next time, I --

Kendall: No. No, no, no, no. There is going to be no next time for you, Jonathan. You are fired.

Babe: J.R. loves me.

Jamie: Because he tells you that?

Babe: Because he shows me in a hundred ways.

Jamie: But he doesn't tell you that he loves you?

Babe: He says it, Jamie.

Jamie: So he still talks about how much you mean to him? You guys have plans, building a house?

Babe: We've been busy.

Jamie: You're newlyweds. Is that how J.R. treats you? Like he can't get enough of you, just looking at you, touching your skin? I mean, come on, Babe. Are you still on your honeymoon? Anywhere even close? You wanted to talk honestly. Tell me J.R. never ignores you.

Babe: J.R.ís -- he's been busy.

Jamie: Have you ever had to ask him to pay attention to you? For a kiss or a hug? Have you had to ask him if he still loves you?

Babe: You're so out of line with this, Jamie. If I had a microphone on right now, they would lock you up forever. You are so proving that you're a stalker!

Jamie: I'm that close, huh?

Babe: What do you do? What, you sneak around the grounds at night, spying on us?

Jamie: There's no need. I know how J.R. flips the switch. Once he's done with you, there's no turning him around. Even if he says some of the right things, makes a move or two on you, he has changed, and you know it.

Babe: You think that if you turn me against J.R., what, that -- that Iíll run right into your arms? Forget it.

Jamie: I want you away from J.R., but not because I want us to hook up. I want you and Bess to be safe. That is all.

Babe: Jamie, we are safe. We are surrounded by people who care about us -- my mom and David Hayward and Bianca and most of all, J.R.

Jamie: J.R. has this look. I haven't seen it since we were kids, but it's there again. Now, you've seen it. The eyes are hard and cold. He looks through you instead of at you. It's what happens when he goes into revenge mode.

Babe: Revenge for what? Jamie, J.R. is happy, or at least he would be if you would just leave him alone.

Jamie: You kept secrets about Paul Cramer. You lied about the annulment. Drugging you was just part of J.R.ís revenge. I called him on it, so he framed me.

Babe: What? Jamie --

Jamie: Babe, Babe, just try to make yourself believe it, just for a minute. Try to imagine what J.R. would do to keep his daughter. Now imagine what danger that puts you in -- the only person in his way.

J.R.: Does my life revolve around my daughter? Yes. I brought her into this world. That to me says a lifetime commitment. Now, would I sacrifice anything for her? Would I fight to the end? If I have to. But I don't have to.

Tad: J.R., I know too much to stand here and play games with --

J.R.: No, you think you know everything, but until you realize that I love Babe and that my marriage is solid, you know squat.

Tad: Is that why I found you studying divorce law a week after you were married?

J.R.: What are you trying to accuse me of here? You think that Iím chopping people into little bits so I can keep Bess? Because that's what's you're doing. You're bringing me down to set Jamie free.

Tad: Son, I'm not trying to --

J.R.: No, just drop the "son"! You and Brooke raised Jamie, so, therefore, he is the hope of the future --

Tad: I never meant to imply that Jamie --

J.R.: While Adamís been grooming me to be ruler of the underworld.

Tad: Adam is wasting his time. I'm sure of it. You know what I see when I look at you?

J.R.: The prince of darkness?

Tad: Your mother. You got your mother's eyes. You may have your father's stubbornness and his anger and his fear, but you got your mother's heart. And what made her extraordinary was she always had faith in life, no matter what it threw at her. She always embraced it and everything it had to offer. So why don't you try tapping into some of that, because I know it's in there somewhere.

J.R.: What do you want me to do, Tad? You want me to go down to the police station, admit that I drugged Babe to set Jamie free?

Tad: Yeah, J.R. That's exactly what I want you to do.

Kendall: If this had been anybody else, you would have thrown them out on the street, but because Jonathanís your brother, it's ok?

Greenlee: You know, he was thrown into the deep end. There was too much going on.

Kendall: Will you stop making excuses? He cost us $100,000!

Ryan: That's really not what this is about, though, is it?

Kendall: Yes, it is.

Greenlee: Ok, you loved that he messed up.

Kendall: Don't even try to make this personal.

Jonathan: Kendall's right.

Ryan: No, she is not right.

Greenlee: Yeah, that'd be a first.

Kendall: I am?

Jonathan: I have the degrees, but come on. I lack the hands-on experience.

Kendall: Finally, the voice of reason. Would you please share that with your lovely brother? In the meantime, Iíll see you tomorrow morning when you come to pick up your things.

Greenlee: Hold on, Kendall. You're not going anywhere.

Ryan: Hey, hey, hey --

Jonathan: Hey --

Ryan: Dinner -- we haven't even --

Jonathan: I've got to pack.

Ryan: What? Do me a favor -- ignore Kendall.

Jonathan: When she's dead-on? I should have never come to work for you.

Ryan: Hey, hey, hey, hey -- you're not going anywhere.

Ryan: Trust me, Kendall is just thrilled that you messed up so she can land me and you.

Jonathan: Whatever her motive is, the thing is she called it right. Any other company -- would I get a second chance?

Ryan: Well, the upside is this isn't any other company. You're here working for me and for the woman that Iím married to. Now, the downside is that you're also working for the woman that I was engaged to.

Jonathan: And re-engaged to.

Ryan: Fusion is a drama factory, so it's easy to be distracted, especially because you're the new guy, so give yourself a break, all right? I'm serious. You deserve one.

Greenlee: Every time you fight dirty, I think this is the lowest that she can go. But then you manage to dig a deeper hole and crawl in and wait to do more damage.

Kendall: Ok, what part of "he's bad for business" do you not understand?

Greenlee: Oh, so this wasn't about your latest rejection? You know, Jonathan refusing to bed you again? Word travels fast. So you've managed to wipe out with Ryan and his brother, but don't throw out your slutty lingerie yet. I'm sure there's some miserable loser out there who doesn't know your rep, some unfortunate guy who's willing to take a tumble.

Kendall: You finished?

Greenlee: No, but you are. Scenes like this make you seem even more pathetic than you really are. Jonathan and Ryan know this little visit was all about your deflated little ego, so you can give it up. We're all on to you.

Tad: All right, so what's next? What are you going to do?

J.R.: I guess I'm going to give you points for honesty, even though you couldn't be farther from the truth.

Tad: J.R., just because Iím concerned about Jamie doesn't mean I want you to be guilty.

J.R.: But, hey, Jamieís got to be set free from jail, so why don't I get shoved in there, huh? Even though it's something I didn't do?

Tad: Well, I don't intend to sacrifice either one of my boys -- either you or your brother.

J.R.: Jamie was arrested because he was threat to my wife. And even if he weren't, I'm not going to go down for a rap that I didn't do!

Tad: All right, so help me find out who did do it.

J.R.: You already bought Jamieís story and labeled me a liar. To hell with the evidence, right? You don't believe Jamie drugged Babe because it's not who you think he is!

Tad: I don't want to believe that of either one of you.

J.R.: No matter how much you talk, the bottom line is -- is Jamie is your son and I belong to Adam.

Tad: If you really believe that, then I have failed you.

J.R.: You said it, not me.

Babe: You turned me around, Jamie.

Jamie: I have?

Babe: I'm completely convinced that everything J.R. said about your sick obsession is dead-on.

Jamie: Come on, Babe!

Babe: You come on, Jamie. I came here to give you the benefit of the doubt, but all you keep doing is trying to turn me against my husband.

Jamie: I'm ready to confess everything, the complete truth.

Babe: Go on.

Jamie: The cops snagged my computer and PDA. They got these documents they can use against me, letters to you saying how perfect we are for each other and how much I love you.

Babe: You wrote that?

Jamie: No, I didn't. But I could have.

Babe: What do you mean that you could have written that?

Jamie: Back when I felt that way about you. I mean, I was so sure that we were it, I had to get you away from J.R.

Babe: What's changed?

Jamie: Everything. I mean, I still care what happens to you, just more like a friend. No, I thought you and J.R. had a shot at being completely and happily married, and I wanted that for you both.

Babe: That's what you said.

Jamie: I meant it. You know my feelings for you changed. You felt it. And if this was just about you and J.R., I'd probably let it ride. You're an adult. You can figure it out, eventually. But Bess is all tied up in it, and she's completely innocent and cannot speak for herself.

Babe: I'll take care of Bess.

Jamie: How, when J.R. shoves you out of the picture? Because that is what he's about, and I guarantee you, if you don't start fighting him now, you will lose your daughter.

Babe: No, J.R. would -- he'd never take Bess away from me.

Jamie: You know what? When you catch on and you want to leave J.R., he won't let his daughter go. He will never let you have his flesh and blood.

Tad: You know something? I was kind of praying that we could work this thing out together, because as far as I am concerned, you are a part of my family, every bit as much as Jamie is.

J.R.: Only when it suits you. Otherwise, I was just the kid that tagged along with Dixie. It was sort of a package deal, so you took me in for a while --

Tad: J.R., I used to talk to you before you were born.

J.R.: Will you just stop it? Mom's dead. Drop the act. I don't condemn you for favoring Jamie more. I understand. He's your real son. He's blood, like Bess is mine.

Tad: It's not an act. I loved Dixie and --

J.R.: I am a habit. It's cool. I'm all grown up now. I'm not going to take my backpack and then run away to the zoo. You know, it's kind of a relief. I don't really have to worry about your opinion anymore.

Tad: You didn't let me finish. You can go on about favoritism and blood being thicker than water all you like. I don't care. I love you, J.R. I don't love you because of your mother or in spite of your father. I love you because you are you, yourself, every bit as much as I ever loved Jamie. Neither one of my sons comes in second place. You will always be my son.

Adam: You sure you wouldn't like a brandy?

Brooke: Oh, no, thanks, I really prefer the tea, unless, of course, you think Mary is spiking it with arsenic.

Adam: We'll have Winifred taste it, just to make sure. I'm joking, I hope. I'll see what's taking so long.

Brooke: Thank you.

Adam: Ah, here we go. Winifred was just on her way in.

Brooke: I was just looking at this picture. How happy everybody is.

Adam: Well, your family will be smiling again. We'll see to it. Why don't you sit down.

Brooke: I just think this is wild, you know? If anybody would have told me that you would be the one helping me through this --

Adam: It's a terrible time for you. How's Phoebe taking it? Is she planning a prison break-in?

Brooke: She's in London visiting friends.

Adam: Oh. She doesn't know yet.

Brooke: Thank God. Anyway, I -- I just keep hoping, you know, that the charges against Jamie will be dismissed.

Adam: You've never been naÔve, Brooke. Miracles don't happen. As for luck, we create our own.

Jonathan: I'm not used to second chances.

Ryan: Yeah, the old man never even gave first chances, huh? You never saw that first punch coming, not to mention the fact that you never did anything wrong to deserve it.

Jonathan: No. I did wrong this time, though.

Ryan: Well, you don't need to stress about it anymore. Nobody is going to beat you up for it anymore.

Jonathan: Ok. Thanks. Ok.

Ryan: Hey, did I just make things worse?

Jonathan: No, no. Just I need to clean up. When I cook, half the food ends up on the floor.

Kendall: You know, you can't intimidate me, Greenlee.

Greenlee: Hmm. Well, once again, you missed my point. I'm trying to help you slink away with a little shred of dignity.

Kendall: Well, why don't you save your self-help tips? I'm not interested.

Greenlee: Well, maybe this will grab you. Good news.

Kendall: Great. Well, hurry and tell me what it is. I got somewhere to go.

Greenlee: Ryan's falling in love with me. Don't strain yourself for a witty comeback. "Congratulations" will do it.

Kendall: You know, I'm searching for a word, but "congratulations" isn't one of them.

Greenlee: I should thank you. Every move you make, Ryan is happier than ever that we're together.

Kendall: No, see, you're only psyching yourself out, Greenlee. Whatever I do or say, just walking past Ryan gets me what I want.

Greenlee: What you want is to be in there. It's not going to happen. Ryan could never live with you.

Kendall: Yeah, but he's not sure if he can live without me, either. See, I don't know if you noticed this, but when I get within a hundred feet of Ryan, your husband, whether I make him laugh, cry, scream, I get to your husband in a pretty good way.

Greenlee: You're deluding yourself.

Kendall: Actually, I'm the one who's dealing with reality here. See, whatever success you think you're achieving with Ryan, know this -- he's fantasizing about me.

Ryan: Way to wreck a dinner party, huh?

Greenlee: Where's Jonathan?

Ryan: He cleaned up and he called it a night.

Greenlee: Feel like nuking some cold rigatoni a la whatever?

Ryan: I lost my appetite, thank you. I take it you mopped the floor out there with Kendall?

Greenlee: Gave it my best shot. Rotten little snitch.

Ryan: I really appreciate you covering for Jonathan.

Greenlee: It didn't seem like such a catastrophe. Anyway, you had a lot on your plate.

Ryan: It meant a lot to me.

Greenlee: Well, Jonathanís my family now, too. I've got his back.

Ryan: Well, he's a lucky guy. Then again, so am I. You're the best.

Brooke: Adam, I need your advice. Livia Frye is representing Jamie.

Adam: Livia. Well -- she'll be all right, I guess.

Brooke: How do you think she'd stack up against Arch Madden?

Adam: You're considering using Madden?

Brooke: No. No, he's counsel for Seth Phelps, the drug dealer.

Adam: Oh. Well, he -- he has quite a reputation. I don't know any specifics, but I can make some phone calls, if you'd like.

Brooke: Oh, could you do that?

Adam: Yeah. Yes.

Brooke: I would use my "Tempo" contacts, but, you know --

Adam: No, you want to keep a low profile right now, of course.

Brooke: Thank you so much for understanding.

Mary: Knock, knock. I hate to interrupt again, but it's time to get ready.

Adam: For what?

Mary: The Bellaires' dinner party.

Adam: Oh, no, no, no. I'll call and then cancel.

Mary: Over my dead body.

Adam: Ah, a bonus. Ahem -- Brooke, would you excuse us for just a moment?

Mary: Adam, Warren is sniffing around "What we do, we do best with what we are given."

Adam: What in blue blazes are you yammering about?

Mary: My sculpture. I think he's going to buy it.

Adam: You'll never going to be able to turn over that piece --

Mary: I beg to differ. Warren has the eye of a true artist, and he really likes my work.

Adam: Well, count me out.

Mary: You just got to be there. No, you've got to be there --

Adam: No, I refuse to be a pimp for that monstrosity --

Brooke: I'm very sorry to interrupt. I -- I have to go.

Adam: You feel up to driving?

Brooke: Oh, absolutely. And thank you so much for everything. And, Mary, good luck selling your wares.

Babe: I was stupid to come here. And even dumber for staying. You're just too far gone.

Jamie: You don't want to listen to me about J.R., but you have to -- for Bess.

Babe: I'm with J.R., and you can't stand it, Jamie. I -- I really hope that wherever you end up that -- that they can get you the help that you need.

Jamie: No, no -- Babe! Somebody, please help her before it's too late.

J.R.: If you love Jamie and me equally, where do we go from here? What do we do?

Tad: If your brother isn't guilty, you cannot let him suffer the punishment. I don't know how we'll get you out of this, but we will. Your brother and I will stick by you, no matter what it takes.

J.R.: As far as Iím concerned, Jamie can rot in jail. And you -- you can rot, too.

Greenlee: Well, Jonathanís ok, isn't he? I mean, he didn't take Kendall seriously?

Ryan: No, it's not Kendall. It's just when he was a kid, he had it pretty rough, and I'm trying to make up for it.

Greenlee: That's a lot to take on.

Ryan: Well, I can't change the past, but I can help make his future better.

Greenlee: Everybody should have a big brother like you.

Ryan: I'm trying, yeah, but we -- we lost a lot of years.

Greenlee: Well, he's going to stay, though, right? I mean, if Kendall doesn't scare him off?

Ryan: No, he's sticking around, but something really got to him.

Greenlee: It was more than Kendallís attack tonight. He's too nice to tell you, but Kendall tried to get him back in bed again. Fortunately, he had the sanity to run the other way.

Ryan: Well, that's good.

Greenlee: He's a class act.

Ryan: Yes, but Kendall --

Greenlee: Forget the leftovers. You know what? I'm exhausted. Ready for bed?

Ryan: No, you go ahead. I'll be -- Iíll be up soon.

Mary: And what, may I ask, is Brooke after?

Adam: Me.

Mary: Uh-huh.

Adam: She wants to see if she can get some information out of me that'll get Jamie out of the slammer.

Mary: But you've seen right through her.

Adam: I can't wait for her return performance.

Mary: Adam, she's using you. Why open yourself up to that again?

Adam: I want to see how far she'll go.

Mary: And how far do you want her to?

Adam: Brooke's an extraordinary woman.

Mary: Oh.

Adam: She'll do anything for her child. Hmm? I love that in a woman. Take a lesson.

Brooke: I know you'll think it's archaic of me, but I didn't have any of those mini wireless night-vision video-camera thingies lying around, so --

Tad: Well, it's nice to know that a good old-fashioned tape recorder can still do the job. I'm proud of you.

Brooke: I nearly dropped the thing when I was there.

Tad: You probably deserve an award for being able to cry on Adamís shoulder.

Brooke: I wanted to slap him. Anyway, he didn't suspect anything.

Tad: Good. So what's your next move?

Brooke: I'm going to go back to the office and see if I can get my hands on Adamís phone records.

Tad: Why?

Brooke: Well, because even though he was very cool when I mentioned Madden, you know, Sethís lawyer --

Tad: You think he made a couple of phone calls to the Łber-attorney?

Brooke: Let's hope.

Tad: That's not a bad idea. You just let me know if you find out anything, ok?

Brooke: Oh, you know I will. Are we kidding ourselves? I mean, hoping for a miracle here?

Tad: No. Can't let the odds beat us now.

Brooke: If Jamie is in this so deep that we can't get him out, I swear I will strangle Adam with my bare hands.

Tad: We'll save Jamie, somehow. I'm just afraid that J.R. is past saving.

J.R.: You've always got me, Bess. Hmm? No matter what, I'll always be here.

Tad's voice: You will always be my son.

Young J.R.: I have a dad.

Tad: Well, then, consider me a spare, a backup.

Young J.R.: You lied to me. You said that when you married Mom that you would be together, together forever.

J.R.: I'll never let you down, Bess. Hmm? We'll be together forever. Hmm. That's right. That's right.

Babe: Hey. That's the best thing I've seen all day. Hi.

J.R.: She inspires you.

[J.R. imagines throwing Babe out of the house]

Babe: J.R., don't! Please, don't!

[Miranda cries]

Babe: Don't you do this! Stop! Bess! Bess! J.R., please, I -- I'm begging you! No, my little girl, Bess! Bess! No!

[Pounding on door]

Babe: Bess!

[Babe yells]

J.R.: Hey, Bess. Did all that nasty yelling bother my only sweetheart? Come here. Ooh. Ooh, ooh, ooh. Yeah. It's ok, Daddyís here. That's right. It's all right. Mean old Mommyís gone. Yeah.

>> On the next "All My Children" --

Maria: What do you want from me?

Zach: I have a proposal for you.

Kendall: Help me make Ryan and Greenleeís worst nightmare come true.

Greenlee: What time is it?

Ryan: It's time for your secret fantasy to come true.
